You just killed a Level Two monster with your bare hands. With the XP gained from killing the Man-Eating-Mantis, you leveled up and got a new skill. "Unrelenting Force". Sounds good.

After talking with the two spearmen, who named themselves Henry and Paul, you make a human pyramid at the base of the boulder. Emily climbs the pyramid, and grabs the treasure chest from atop the rock.

Everyone gets 200 Cor, and your new party members demand that you take the emerald ring. They could be in awe at your power, or just don't want you to beat them to death. Chris gets the silver one, for protecting the pair.

You're on a quest to get Man-Eating-Mantis carapaces and another to kill five Alpha Dire Wolves. So far, you need five more mantises(if you take the carapaces from Chris and Paul) and five more pelts from Alpha Wolves. If you can get twenty Jewel Wasp carapaces, you(really, the armorsmith) can make Heavy tier armor from them

No, I think it might be due to the image. When I tried to post with the normal OP pic, it didn't work. I think it could be a size problem, or the internet sucks too much to post with it. I'll try to find one that can be posted and is more related than the pimp coat one. Suggestions are welcome

Once everyone's health is recovered to full, you pull your feet from the cool spring water and re-equipt your boots. Just basic, brown waxed leather that doesn't serve as armor. However, they keep your toes warm and look good doing it.

Everyone stands, excluding Paul who was on guard duty and was standing on the boulder. He hops down from the rock, taking a point of fall damage. The river water splashes up onto his leggings, darkening their tan color to a muddy brown. The rawhide straps that hold them against his calves shift as he stands, the cloth wrinkling.

"Hey, you mentioned Jewel Wasp Honey earlier, right?" You ask Henry.
"Yeah, a chef in Tolbana gave us a quest to get some for him. We got enough fighting the Wasps before you guys showed up." The green haired teenager replies.
"Cool, lets head there. I still need to get a few Mantis carapaces and wolf pelts."
"Yeah, I was wondering about that. Where'd you get that cape?"
"An armorsmith in the Town of Beginnings. Had to kill a few wolves, first time fighting and it almost killed me," You laugh at the memory, then abruptly stop as you remember the circumstances of your life in-game. It's a lot less funny now. You try to lighten the mood and break the sudden silence, "So, lets get going. The chef needs his honey!"

You splash across the river, knocking a knuckle against the boulder for good luck. Your first treasure chest, and hopefully not your last.

The sun rises and starts to sink, though you have no way of knowing under the dense canopy. A few wild animals pass you by, natural ones that won't attack unless attacked. They're mostly there for hunters.

At 4:26 PM, you push a springy branch away from your face. The leaves rub against your bare face, the thin twigs drawing small white scratches on your cheek. You release it, letting it smack into Chris. It hits hit neck, and he beats it away with a flurry of his hands. Paul and Henry laugh at his predicament, but stop when the same thing happens to them.

You push out into a small, "L" shaped clearing. You're in the intersection between the lines, facing the long line. Your compass, a small compass rose that floats in the left corner of your vision, says that it leads in the direction of the town. At the tip of the "L", about a football field away, is a small mount the size of a minivan. A black hole is in the side, leading down into the ground. Out of the nest, crawls a brown Man-Eating-Mantis.

But they would've been teleported to the ToB to hear Kayaba talk about his faggotry, so their headstart would be rendered moot. Also, isn't it like a 2-3 day trip to Tolbana, even at top speed?
I'm sorry, I just can't see how they could get to the other side of the 10 kilometer wide floor and back in only a couple days without having somehow maxed out their sprint skill.
>>
>>36842503
Sprint is very powerful. At level 20, you can run at 40mph for an hour.

You activate your Howl skill, this time trying to form it into words. They come out a bit messed up and guttural, but they still Agro the Mantis.
"UR GUS! U AVE UGE GUS! URP N TER!" A small announcement appears in your vision, saying you leveled up Howl.

You charge forward, pulling the axe from it's holder. You hold it against your shoulder as you run, a blue glow forming around the head. The Mantis settles into a defensive stance, spreading it's four brown legs out to prevent being knocked over. Your party of five follows, with a less insane scream. The brown head flicks at each of them, then settles back on you. Still Agro'd against you.

You swing the axe blade, letting the Sword Skill take over. The blade sweeps down at the monster's shoulder joint, trailing blue light. The Mantis intercepts your blow with a arm, letting the tip be sliced away.

It swings the other hand/arm at you, slamming into your side. You fall to the ground and roll, the horizon flipping over again and again. You stop, flipping up as the roll ends. Your friends have engaged the monster, forming a semi-circle where they jab at it from a distance. It's health is being chipped away, now down into the high yellow. Probably at 60-70% of it's full health.

You rush forward at the mantis, your axe head lifted up to attack it's shoulder. You come around the back, letting the mantis bat out at the party. You lift the handle over your head, pulling it back with both hands.

You bring it down with a streak of gold, chopping into it's shoulder. The arm breaks off, cut away at the top. It's ends are sealed by white light, and the severed arm breaks into pieces. The monster turns around with a vengeance, closing it's mouthparts around your left arm. Both your health and the monster's health deplete, you losing thirty points while the monster takes forty.

Armless and surrounded by foes, the mantis starts running away towards the nest. It moves with a blinding speed, scuttling down the hole as you get within twenty yards of it.

You run forward into the hole, checking the axe back so it lights up. The blue light fills up the tunnel, bathing everything in a deep blue light. The brown monster strikes out at you, it's remaining arm hitting your right elbow.

You take ten points of damage, then chop down on the monster's head. It takes her down rapidly, it's head being split by a white light between it's eyes. You kick it back, your foot breaking the thin carapace below it's arms.

This makes it dip into the red, and you pull your arm back to hit the mantis once more. The blade glows orange, and you spin around with an Axe Spin and cut off it's head. The head falls to the ground, rolling down the tunnel. A small, faint blue page appears showing your loot and EXP.

You back out of the tunnel, feeling your way out with your hand. The wall is a rounded, dried mud thats about seven feet down. It was likely applied by the mantises themselves, made from spit, dirt and excrement, if they're anything like real bugs.

You exit into the warmer, fresh air. Your teammates are waiting for you, debating wether to follow or not.

"The tunnel goes deeper, but it's too dark to go farther." You say, then swipe your hand down. The inventory opens, and you remove two torches. You hand one to Emily, who lights it on fire with a press of a button. Looks like when you craft torches, they can be relit at will. Useful knowledge.

Armed with steel and fire, your party of five creeps slowly down the tunnel. The reddish orange light covers the walls and the tunnel for fifteen feet, before it dissipates.

You step out of the tunnel, landing on the first flat floor in thirty yards. Within it, you notice a trio of brown mantises and a grey one. They look up at you from the dried mud/shit floor, then stand up. The brown ones are normal sized, six or so feet tall. However, the grey one is larger, it's head brushing against the ten foot tall ceiling. It's mouth is longer and thicker, a black mass of heavy chitlin. A pair of wings are flared, with two eyespots on them.

You let your party fan out around the tunnel entrance, pulling your axe back to activate a Sword Skill.

>New Sword Skill
>Axe Charge
Activating Move: Hold the axe on your shoulder and charge forward. Must reach a jogging pace to take effect. As speed goes up, it's damage goes up.
Damage type: Single target
Damage per hit: 60 base/6 glancing
Freeze period: .5 seconds
Cooldown: 25 seconds

You shoulder-check a smaller mantis as you charge the flamboyant mantis. It stumbles into it's neighbor, it's legs not set to handle the force. You keep going, ignoring the smaller monsters. Your field of vision blurs at the edges as you speed across the mud room.

The mantis readies itself, it's colorful wings splayed out to look bigger. You feel the Skill activate, swinging your axe as you tackle the large monster.

You fly into the monster's lower thorax, the axe cutting through the chitlin. The monster slides back a good ten feet, your force slamming it into the mud wall. Chips of the dried mud fall in plate-sized from the ceiling, shattering on the ground. It's hind leg buckles as it pushes you off, falling to one knee.

You look a it's health, looking at it's two health bars. The upper one is missing half of it's color, still green. A small black and white box sits next to the health bars, with a symbol that you recognize as meaning it's lost it's control of a limb.

It's minions are being fought back, one shattered into white light by a spear thrust. Two more remain, their health close to full.

A unique skill given to the player who is strongest IRL. Allows unarmed combat, based off your strength stat. Your attacks hit harder and do slightly more damage at level one. Once high leveled, makes your blows(armed & unarmed) impossible to block with shields or parry.
>>
Rolled 100 (1d100)

Taking advantage of the stunned monster, you rush forward again. It tries to hit you, but you dive beneath the blow and spin onto your back. Looking up into it's abdomen, you kick both your legs up into it's underside. A crater appears in it's exoskeleton, evidence of your attack. From your spot below the monster, you can't tell how much damage it did.

You log-roll over, pushing against it's injured leg. The monster falls to the floor, cracking the mud. You stand up, holding your axe at your side. With the monster's hands being used to push it back up, you activate your Sword Skill.

The head glows gold, then the skill activates. You spin, letting the axe cut through the monster's legs. It cops into the hind leg, forcing the monster to hold itself up with it's arms. The golden axe cuts through the second leg on it's right side, both legs breaking into white flakes that float towards the ceiling.

The monster's health reaches the yellow, only a small sliver on the upper health bar left. Your friends have finished off another monster, and Paul is disengaging from the battle. His health is in the yellow, though he looks determined to help finish off the field boss. After the rare item no doubt.

Missing a pair of legs, the mantis is laying on the mud floor with it's arms up. It's remaining legs are able to make it move, slowly but still possible. Right now, it's crabbing with it's two legs to face you.

You notice the mantis's claws glowing a sickly green, and start backing away from the boss. The monster rockets it's arm at you, sweeping it in an arc low to the ground. You try to jump it, but feel the monster hit your legs.

By Odin, why does it have claws on it's arm?

The knifelike spikes on the field boss's arm cuts into your leg, catching onto it. You stick to the blades, being pushed along with the blow. You slam into the wall, your health going into red.

A cry goes up from Paul, who rushes into the range of the monster. Built light and fast, the player doesn't have enough HP to tank a hit like you just did.

The same sickly green color grows on the monster's arm, and it swings it at the spearman.

Paul flies along with the hit, slamming into the wall. The drags itself along the ground with it's arms, over to the fallen PC. Paul looks over at you, calling out for help. The monster's hands plunge down onto Paul, grabbing hold of his limp body. It brings Paul up to it's mouth, and chops down.

Paul dissolves into light.

This kinda thing doesn't happen. Not to you.

Video games don't work like that, right. Right!?!?

The world is covered in a red film, your health bar blinking incessantly. Twenty HP. That should be enough.

You struggle out of your sitting position, bracing yourself against the mud wall. The mantis is pulling itself towards you, it's battered grey exoskeleton scrapping against the floor. A rasping sound comes from it, the carapace digging a trough in the ground.

Your legs shake below your axe, unsteady after the violent damage. They strengthen suddenly, your muscles growing stronger and tightening.

You rush at the monster, axe at ready. The mantis swipes at you again, but you vault over it. You leave your axe imbedded inside the monster's arm, armed only with fists.

You punch the giant insect upside the jaw, a crack echoing across the room. The left side of it's face is sagging, pieces of chitlin falling off it's skin. You jump at it, reaching around the monster praying mantis's thorax. You knee it, shattering it's body like a dropped plate.

Your hands glow blood red, each finger covered in a sheath of blood. The monster swipes at you, it's arm glowing sickly green.

You catch it.

The mantis jerks it's arm back, pulling you to the left three inches. You swivel once the monster stops pulling, dropping into a crouch. You drive a hammerfist into it's arm, breaking it in two. The arm falls into your hand, a sword with six points on one side.
1/2
>>
Armed again, you hold the weapon up with two hands. The hand on the end flips errantly, then back as you swing it at the monster's head. The spikes stab into it's compound eye, gouging out the blue jewel and tear three lines into it's face. The health bar drops into the red, like the blood from Paul's body.

You leave the arm stuck inside the monster, positioning for the final blow.

You pull the axe from the monster's arm, the steel blade leaving a red line in the remaining arm. You climb up onto the monster's back, pulling the axe back into an Overhead Strike. The silver blade grows into gold, and it rockets into the mantis's head.

The mantis keels over and bursts.

You fall to the ground, the world red.

"Heal"

You wake up, Henry standing over you with a red healing crystal.

Now one smaller.

A small announcement in your vision says you evolved and got a new item. You ignore it, it would feel wrong to look at it so soon after Paul's death. On the ground, lies Paul's spear. You take the blade up, leaving your axe in the inventory.

"No one dies. Not anymore. Not while I'm still here. As long as my heart is still beating, I promise to protect anyone who needs me," You seal your promise with a stamp of the spear, the blunt end cracking the floor.

"There's no time to be sad.....We have to fight,Win and live for Paul......" You start walking, keeping the compass rose pointed in the direction of Tolbana. Before you leave, you dig out a deep and thin hole in the dirt in front of the nest entrance. The spear goes point down into the hole, a memorial to your fallen comrade.

As you walk, everyone walks in silence. You reflect on your short time with your fallen party member, how he was constantly joking. He never seemed to think that you were trapped in this death game.

Now you understand it all to much.

Your axe materializes in it's place on your hip, hidden by your cloak. At the front of the line, your emotions are also hidden.

A pair of glowing orange eyes stare out from underbrush, surrounded by two more pairs of red one.

You rip the blade from it's spot on your belt, holding it up so it faces the monsters.

You shout out, Howling at the trio of monsters. "WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?"

The monsters burst from the underbrush, leaping at you. You activate Axe Spin, knocking two monsters into the other.

One monster dissolves instantly, after receiving the worst of your attack. The other two, a normal sized Dire Wolf and a large one with black fur the size of a smart car, crash into the brush.

You rush after them, chopping down pieces of plants to clear the path. The smaller wolf jumps out at you, teeth bared. You swing up at it's white belly, cutting a wide and long hole into it's pixels. It lands on your shoulders, and you finish it off with a punch to the ribcage.

The Alpha growls, circling around you. A long string of white spit dangles from it's maw, dropping into the leaves. All of it's hair stands on end, puffing out.

A growl creeps out of your throat, deeper than the wolf's. The monster goes deeper, trying to outclass you. You stand growling at the monster for who knows how long, before rushing at it.

The monster charges to meet you, spittle flying as it lopes. It jumps up, landing against your shoulders. You topple over while intertwining your fists in the rough black fur.

As the monster snaps at you, your fists glow red again. You rip them out, fistfuls of fur and meat clutched in them. The monster whines, and you release your hold on the fur.

You headbutt the monster, seeing everything through a film of green light for a second. Your axe lays next to you, sitting in a pile of decaying leaves. You reach over to it, scrabbling for the weapon.

You grab hold of the haft, behind the metal head. you drive the blade into the wolf's side, cutting between the ribs.

The wolf whines and limps away from you to stand under a large oak tree thats covered in moss.

Your Spidey senses tingling, you look around for any other monsters. Nothing that you can see. Excluding the wounded Alpha wolf, of course.

You swing the axe at the monster's snarling head, leaping forward as you do it.

The blade cuts deep into the monster's skull, cutting through until it passes through. With it's head cut in two, the monster dissolves.

A notice appears, showing that you have new loot and Attribute Points to put into stats.

I say we stick 3:1 ratio, Agi is only good for us to make sure we keep hitting things, we don't need to dodge as our HP will keep going up and we effectively have our entire skill tree focused towards strength so why not abuse it. If other possibilities come up in the future we might change the plan but a 3:1 ratio seems good for now.

You equip the "Braces of the Mantis", feeling the cold chitlin materialize your forearms.

Thick plates of the grey mantis chitlin are formed into round armor for your arms, with half-inch long spikes lining the outsides of your forearm. Theres so many and so close together in a straight line, they form a small serrated blade. With a press of a button on your inventory, the blades dull. A quick look at the menu says that the bracers are rare drops from the Slaying Mantis. They give a +2 to defense, and have the ability to inflict damage if used when sharpened.

Once your party has regrouped, you take the lead again and continuing on your way to Tolbana. The day ends, with you coming out of the forest. In the distance, you can make out the logging town of Tolbana. You set a watch like last night, taking the first watch. Nothing happens.

As your walking, the town slowly grows closer. Tree trunks dot the land, evidence of the town.

All we have to do is be on the look out for new and stronger monsters to make into armor. Get a few crafting skills and we can make it ourselves

>>36849049
And chainmail.Don't forget chainmail guys shit looks awesome and was used by the vikings
>>
>>36849049
Chitlin is only a spooky skeleton thats on the outside. Seems like it would be fine for being a Army Viking
>>
>>36849022
That'd be cool, but lets stick to pelts and skins. Maybe use the chitin and scales for small things and bone for necklaces and other accessory slots. Hopefully our skill tree will involve some kind of power from pain skill where we deal more damage the more hits we take. We already have a mid-fight heal so combine the two and MUAHAHAHA so much damage!
>>
>>36849022
I meant to mention that. If we plan on going full retard and not using a shield like a sane person (pussy) would do, we need to find a way of mitigating damage. Heavy armour could help but tanks already wear that AND have a shield. If we want to keep making ourselves a target, we need something on par with a shield. (Or not, because we have insane deeps, I think) Perhaps we need to make better use of grappling/disarming things. Or maybe some sort of stone skin skill or something that lets us take reduced damage while in a rage.
>>
>>36849105
We need to go a step further then stone skin,We need......STEEL SKIN!
>>
>>36849105
Just cover our non-axe arm in the thickest hides we come across, use that as a shield.
>>
>>36849105
Do axes come with handguards?

Maybe we could have a 1.5-handed axe with light covering to protect fingers and bash people with.
>>
>>36849122
We should technically wear a gauntlet on our non axe arm to maximize the use of unrelenting force anyway.
>>
>>36849105

You keep walking between the many tree stumps, looking at the rings occasionally. All of the large stumps are as big around as a table, with many being surrounded by shield-sized stumps. You'll have to be on the look out for dire beavers.

No monsters attack in the hour's walk to the town, which smells of sap and woodsmoke. The massive trees have been cleared to the dirt, with small craters marking where trees were uprooted. The trunks seem to have been remade into two concentric walls, each wall fifteen feet tall. All of the timbers are darkening to grey, but many retain a bit of their fresh yellow color.

A pair of guards stand at a gateway, armed with chainmail and steel spears. "Who goes there? State your name and purpose." One of them calls out, speaking from behind a bushy red mustache.
"Umm, four travelers seeking refuge," You call out, trying to match the guard's way of speaking.
"You'll find it here, good sirs and madam. Please remember the rules imposed upon you by the Creator"

You enter through the gate, stepping onto a wooden walkway. The road is mud, freshly made from the spring rain and many carts passing. Your standing on a mud-splattered sidewalk, made of thin oak wood. The time reads 3:28 PM

"Lets go turn in the Wasp honey. We can get some free food and rations for later." Henry says, one of the first things to come from his mouth since Paul's death. Everyone agrees, nodding or grunting in your case.

Henry takes the lead, turning right, then left through an alley. You come out on the northern side of town, below the inner wall. Henry points across the street at a whitewashed building with sky blue shingles and a wide display window stuffed with fresh bread, pastries, and donuts.

You step down into the mud, feeling the road suck your foot in. With a wet squelch, you pull your foot from the brown prison. Everyone copies your actions, cutting a line of footprints into the soft mud.

Henry steps up to the store's sidewalk first, wiping his muddy feet against a small mat that lines the sidewalks every ten feet. Everyone does the same, the mud plopping in a pile on the road.

Within the bakery, it smells like fresh bread and flour. A NPC woman greets Henry, then calls over another NPC. The NPC man pulls Henry off to a corner, then tells his wife to go into the back and check on a loaf in the oven. She leaves, and the baker hurriedly gives Henry a large bag that smells strongly of fresh bread. In exchange, he gets three mason jars full of golden honey. As the baker looks at the honey, it changes color with each movement. First blue, then purple, then a green like new pine needles.

The food disappears into Henry's inventory, and the baker thanks him again. You buy a donut topped with crushed walnuts and small pieces of sugar glass. The food tastes real, the nutty flavor melding perfectly with the sweetness from the sugar.
>-1 Cor

You step out into the sunlight, boots knocking against the boards of the sidewalk. You savor the donut, everyone eating their own type. Sadly, there isn't any chocolate or maple ones.
"So, we have food for a few days, what do you guys want to do?" Chris says, then bites into a jelly filled donut. Raspberry, good choice.

"Lets go to the inn. Might as well get some real beds. Not all of us carry giant furry blankets around," Emily says, making a mock-pointed look at you.

Everyone agrees, and you start wandering along the sidewalks in search of an inn. After walking for three minutes, a building catches your eye. Something about it just screams "INN" to you. It could be the stream of travelers, or the massive sign that says "Ruby's Inn". Could be anything.

You jog out through the stump lands, carrying your small axe in your right hand. As the sun slowly creeps lower, you enter the eternal twilight of the forest.

For three and a half hours, you Howl until your throat is raw. Each time, the monsters come bounding out of the bushes. At 4:51, you find a small clearing that you set up as a base. After each battle in the clearing, you'll look at your health and regroup. Four packs of Dire Wolves charge you, only to be sent to the underworld by spear, axe, and sword.

You take over a thousand points of damage, each point being replaced by your Battle Healing.

By group decision, you start walking back to the town. The eternal twilight of the forest is even darker as the sun falls away from view. A small deer jumps away from your party, bounding into the bushes.

As you exit the forest into the stump lands, three glowing green cursers are easily visible in the darkness. The cursers disappear into the town, passing through the gate.

Fifteen minutes later, you pass by the two guards. The mustached NPC nods to you, opening the gate for your party. You follow your memory to the Inn, wiping off the mud in the foyer.

Inside, NPCs and three PCs sit around the Inn, eating soup from large bread bowls.

You wave over to the tavern wench, who starts hollowing out four more loaves of bread. You look around the room, trying to remember if there are any quests you could turn in. Nothing, but your getting close to finishing the quest for Alpha wold pelts. One more, then you can get some new armor.

You walk over to a NPC that is an artist, judging from his paint splattered clothes and green hands. YOu walk up to him, then tap on his shoulder. "Hey, how you doing sir?"
"Pretty good. Thats a fine cloak you have there. Wolf fur, right? Holds dye well enough, though not exactly the best. Now for that you want some boar hide or Dire Beaver. What can I do for you?" Seems this guy is a dyer, changing the color of one thing to another.
"Looking for work, me and my friends were thinking about making some money while we're here. Do you need any workers or help?"
"I have been running low on purple, if you want to get me some. I'll mark where you can find the snails on your map."
>Purple Goop For Dwepp

"Hey Wendy(the tavern wench), where'd you guys get the clams?" You call out, motioning at the bread bowl.
"What clams? Thats fried snail." Oh god, what?

"Bring us something to drink please." Henry says, look down at his delicious dinner with disgust. The server nods, then steps behind the bar. She fills four pewter mugs, then carries them over to your table. You take a sip, and the sweet mead courses down your throat.

"To Paul!" You shout out, lifting your mug. Everyone in the tavern lifts up their mugs and shout back.
"TO PAUL!" They don't even know who Paul is. Truly, mead is the greatest way to make friends.

You wake up in your room, still dressed in your armor and furs. A splitting headache hits you, proof that Kayaba Akihiko is a asshole.

You climb out of bed, already dressed. Thats convenient. Henry groans at the noise you made, then starts to climb out of bed. You look away, as he got more ready for bed than you.
"Put on your pants and meet me at the tavern. I'll get breakfast." You say quietly to the prone form.

You exit into the hallway, stumbling a bit on the polished wood. You fall onto a chair at the bar. "Scrambled eggs, as greasy as possible. Put in bacon bits."

The cook, a different one from last night, then hands you a plateful of scrambled eggs with bacon and a small buttered roll. You set upon them, feeling your headache slip away. Chris, then Henry, and finally Emily trail into the tavern and order copies of your breakfast.

You survey the arms and armor of your friends. Kinda dismal really, everyone is still in their beginning stages. Time to grind for loot!

You jog out of the town, armed with your weak weapons. You pass through the stump lands, small trees giving shade in the early morning. You keep running into the forest, taking a break at noon to eat a sandwich from the baker's. As you brush the crumbs off your lap and the leaves off your cloak, a chittering comes from your left.

Everyone looks over at the source of the noise, looking for the monster. "Everyone up! Time to fight!"

You rush at the noise, breaking through brush. The noise seems to be coming from a clearing, which you rush into.

That was a mistake.

Surrounding you, is an orgy of mantids. Brown Mantises cover the clearing, at least three being decapitated by larger ones. Theres at least twenty of them, though three just broke into pieces. Make that seventeen mantids. Your friends burst out with you, skidding to a halt at the edge of the clearing.

You watch the mantids mate, sitting in the shade of the trees. "Hey guys, should we go and fight them?"
"No, this is strategically better." Chris says
"I just think your getting off on this,"
"Screw you Sam, you just want to beat them up."

The coupling mantids continue their killing streak, biting the heads from their mates. Six more male mantids die, and another starts running away from the ho's. He reaches within ten feet of the treeline, when you charge forward. An axe swing dispatches the injured monster, letting it die in the afterglow. Good for him.

Shit, they noticed you getting rid of their mate. They chatter loudly, raising their hooked arms when they see you. Everyone follows you out into the clearing, holding up their weapons.

Rolled 85 (1d100)

Your Howl shoots out, echoing through the clearing. You start running as fast as possible into the mass of monsters, letting them scuttle after you as your teammates attack the distracted mantids. With all ten agro'd on you, you keep running just outside the range of the front monster. A paw hits you in the back, dealing twenty damage. Five seconds of running later, and you're back to full.

You start to get winded(how does that even work?), so you spin around to face the monsters. Two claws hit you in the torso, and you strike out at them. The monster loses it's arm at the shoulder, and falls back into the pack. One bursts into light as Henry vaults over the pack, pole-vaulting to your side.
"Having fun Sam?"
"Plenty. Where'd you learn to do that move?" You say, moving forward to swing at the nearest mantid.
"Used to be in track at school. Regional finalist too."
"Cool. On your left"

The pole vaulter stabs a mantis in the mouth, sending the small spearhead through the back of it's head. It dissolves quickly, and you move into the open space. A swat, glowing orange, hits you into the middle of pack of mantids. They turn to surround you, ignoring the three other players to attack you.

In a target rich environment, you check your axe at your side.

The skill takes over as the monsters close in, a halo of gold forming around your waist. Like a hula-hoop, the blade spins around and cuts into the nearby monster's bodies.hula-hoops do that, right? All eight of the monsters take damage, two breaking apart as you spin. The rotation and multicolored light makes the world look like a massive rave, filled with giant bugs. You should probably stop going to raves like that.

Six arms bat out at you as you freeze, needing to cool down from the Sword Skill. Your health drops an alarming amount, from 492 to 218. Luckily, your armor and high health serve to keep you away from being hurt too much. Two more monsters break apart, one due to a spear thrust and the other to a flurry of swords from Chris and Emily.

You back out of the circle, which has broken apart from the mantids dying or refocusing on your friends. Three head at Chris and Emily, honing in on Emily. She's in the yellow zone, a quick glance below your health bar tells you. The remaining mantis is attacking Henry, whose using his spear like a quarterstaff to block the hits from the mantis. As you watch, one of the blows passes his guard and sends him to the ground with a dazed look on his face.

You feel the freeze shut off, and you quickly run toward the giant brown mantis. It's chitlin plates slide on it's skin, clicking together. It's head rockets down at Henry, much like the Slaying Mantis did to your deceased comrade.
"GET AWAY FROM HIM!" You Howl, making the mantis turn around after taking a bite. It hisses loudly at you, it's mouth dripping saliva. Henry's in the red from the bite, crawling away from the monster.

Your axe glows as you charge at the monster, turning the steel axe into polished gold. It swings into the monster's abdomen, between it's wings. The white-brown wings flare open, battering your arm. You rip the axe back, pulling the monster along with you. It sticks to the blade, the bearded axe hooking on the boney exoskeleton.

Your hand glow red, and you grab hold of the monster's open wing. It tears away, leaving you with a shower curtain-like thing that you drop to the grassy clearing. The monster dips into the red, and whips around to attack your friend. He's starting to heal up, holding an empty potion bottle. Potions take a while to take affect, so Henry's still in danger. His spear is clutched in his right hand, the head pointed at the monster.

Your hand glows with a righteous white light, ready for revenge. The monster stabs it's head forward, aiming for your injured friend. It glances off the gleaming spearhead, drawing a line across it's neck. It loses ten points, and slams it's head into the dirt next to Henry.

You force your hand in a claw shape down onto the hole it the monster's abdomen, hooking around the plate of bone. You pull yourself forward, sliding up the monster's back. Each hand grabs higher on the monster's body, reaching up it's thorax. You grab hold of the monster's shoulders, leaning back against it's arms.

"YOU." You rip one of the arms off, throwing it behind you. "DON'T." You rip the other arm off at the shoulder, leaving it unarmed(heh). "GET." You reach up to it's head, curling your fingers around the antennas. "TO." You pull the antenna away, the monster jerking it's head violently. "HURT." You close your glowing hand around the monster's green eye. "MY." You close your hand, popping the gem-like eye like a grape. Clear fluid drips into your hand, the eye crushed to a pulp. "FRIENDS!"

The monster starts to break apart, and you finish her by digging your hand into the open eye socket. Your fingers explore the mantis's skull, reaching into the brain. You rip into it, pulling your slimy hand away from the breaking monster.

The monsters behind you, assaulting Chris and Emily, break up, one remaining. You leap away from the decomposing monster, landing near the surviving mantis. Your axe slams into the monster's neck, decapitating it instantly. It break apart, a flurry of white sparks.

Head back to town, turn in the Man Eating Mantis Killing quest. See if we can sell the Mantis spawn. Obviously the cooks at the inn don't mind cooking up weird shit.

We're early levels. Grinding now on the journey is so much easier than grinding later....

Tolbana first. Might as well check the stores, I guess, and then go turn in the quest.

"I just leveled up, what about you guys?"
"I did, got a new skill slot. Put Acrobatics into it." Henry says, stamping his spear against the ground as he stands. His health goes into the yellow, growing from red.
"Same here. No skill slot, what level are you?" Chris asks.
"Four now. What about you?"
"Five. Got my extra slot last level."

"I finished my quest, you guys wanna go grind on the way to the town of beginnings?" You ask, checking your quest log. Just gotta go talk to the armorer to complete the quest.
"Sure, first we should stop in Tolbana. I'm running low on crystals." Chris says.

You troop through the woods, your wounds healing quickly. You keep a close lookout for monsters, making sure not to get ambushed. You reach the stumps by five, the red sun touching the horizon. You enter the gates, stepping onto the sidewalk.

For healing supplies. If they want them, we can sell the mantis spawn.

Hopefully find a lazy guard who's going to delegate his duties to us as a quest.
>Weapon Shop
No idea how much Cor we have right now but I think we can use up a bit for some new gear.

You walk to a weapon shop you found while wandering around town. Inside, a burly man with blond hair greets you. Rows of melee weapons line the shop, behind glass cases and in wooden racks.
"Look around and let me know if you need any help or want to know about the weapons." The blond man says from behind a desk.

You stroll down the isles lined with axes big and small. Many are high priced, beyond what you could afford. Perhaps you could sell your ring...

yes, they are shopping around. Henry is in the Shield section, Emily and Chris are in the Swords section
>>

DORFS!
Also, we don't have a 2-handed axes skill, we're only trained in 1handed axes.
>>
>>36867503
I'm assuming the numbers are the difference it makes in comparison to our weapon, and not their level of enchantment.

>Great Danish Axe
>>
>>36867546
No we don't, beacuse we have battle healing.

>>36867572
We can start learning 2handed then. We started with a 1handed axe and it's still the basic starter axe.

I thought we were RIP AND TEAR not the party cleric.

So, in that case, should we perhaps check out the POTIONS section BEFORE we all buy this Danish Great Axe and find out we didn't have enough cor to buy shit?
>>
>>36867703
Seems like a good idea, and I wanted to buy the GD axe first.
>>
>>36867703
Still we need to watch out for our buds, besides even with battle healing we've nearly bought it. A heal or two for emergencies might save our asses.
