the way it looks to me is the first clan is in a better position, with a strong leader that could be a threat both in combat and as an authority figure. the second one is weaker and can be absorbed more easily, whereas the first clan would have to be merged right now.

the most obvious plan of action is to gain control over one and use that to intimidate or attract the other into joining us.

to me the best way to do that is either 1) challenge the Stormhowler chief and gain control of her clan that way, then march on the goatfoot with your combined military might, or 2) conquer the goatfoot outright and then use the combined forces to try to intimidate Stormhowler into assimilating, or if that doesnt work conquering them too

the only thing that might alter this is the possible cooperation of the stromhowler chief. if we can earn her support that would be hugely useful. but it might not be feasible. I dont consider anyone from goatfoot to be worth diplomancing, the characters mentioned either seem useless or to be a threat to our authority.

the best way to start would be to send the old chief of the cloud tribe with a small delegation to ask the chief of Stormhowler for a private audience in a neutral location. he should be on the back of Stormhorn, and he and his companions should be armed and armored to the teeth. we'd use this meeting to gauge the her personal strength, and whether we can get them to submit to us peacefully.

The Goatfoots are probably too used to dealing with the Stormhowlers as well.
Even if their ambushing skills probably surpass ours, a counter ambush supported by more tricky magic than the Stormhowlers are capable of should catch them off guard enough that we can force a proper confrontation.
During that confrontation seek out the chieftain (or if that one isn't around the younger one) and match him in single combat.
Once their leadership is defeated either wring a surrender from them or go in for the win.

Well we have enough steel weapons and armor to outfit much of our clan, so that isn't much of a problem. We mainly need to heal our guys up, deal with our ogre situation which Ashuris offered to help with, and have some fresh food.

I do, its was pretty recent, its either a thread or two after we defeat the orge witches.

You find Ashuris looking over the captives with her coven, a large number of orc guards keeping watch for any signs that the ogresses might be about to try something.

“You ready?” you grunt, as Ashuris turns to look at you.

“Yes, this one will do,” she replies, giving a flick of the wrist in the direction of one of the bound zephyr tribe warriors, who swears and spits curses at your ogress slave.

You nod, gesturing for two of your warriors to haul the captive to his feet, one of them giving him a sharp cuff as he kicks and thrashes.

“Once the ritual is complete, we will be at our strongest, whatever magics you want us to work after that will be mighty indeed,” Ashuris gloats, that look of pride creeping into her features.

“Good, your strength will serve the clan well.”

Ashuris gives a proud smile, leading her coven sisters away as the two orc warriors drag the captive behind them.

“Just remember Ashuris, we will be watching you,” you call after the witch, who glances back over her shoulder at you, an uneasy frown on her face.

You follow her out to the rock she picked out, Lurashka taking the captive from the two slaves, the blonde ogress easily lifting the human, pinning him down to the rock as Rasha and Ashuris start to bind him in place with thick ropes.

“This is a lot less trouble when they're dominated,” Ashuris grumbles, wincing as the Zephyr warrior spits on her while she binds his arm.

Soon the sacrifice is in place, screaming and shouting until his voice is hoarse as you wait for the moon to rise high into the sky.

You can practically see the three ogresses buzzing with anticipation as Ashuris clutches an obsidian dagger to her chest, muttering prayers to her god.

Your warriors are all on edge, hands on their weapons as they watch the proceedings, ready to pounce at a moment's notice should the witches betray you. You watch, hands resting on your axe, eying Ashuris as she shouts her prayers into the night sky, again in that unintelligable gutteral tongue, dagger raised high.

The zephyr tribesman continues to swear and scream, vowing bloody vengeance on all of you at Slaagyr's hands right up until the final moment that Ashuris plunges the dagger into his heart in a single sweeping motion. He had balls, you'll give him that.

The blood pumps from the wound, drawn out by some eldritch force as it drains into a stone bowl. Ashuris raising the bowl high overhead as the trickle from the pale corpse ceases, angling it just enough to let some of the blood pour over her, flowing down her hair and over her shoulders. She passes the bowl to Rasha, who follows suit, then to Lurashka. When the last of the ogresses has bathed in the blood, she sets the bowl aside, untying the corpse and shoving it off onto the ground unceremoniously.

“What now, chieftain, our power is at its zenith, what would you have us do?” Ashuris asks, body drenched in blood as she looks down at you. Even you can feel the thrum of power eminating from the ritual, simple though it was, you don't doubt how strong the witches are at this moment. They'll only have time for one piece of witchery before the moment passes however.

Looks like Ashuris wasn't kidding when she said that her magic was at its peak.

“Ashuris, I want the camp fortified, I will not leave it open to another attack by the dragon's followers,” you growl.

Ashuris frowns, and your grip tightens on your axe as you start to wonder if the witch is going to betray you, then she nods.

“That should be easy enough.”

She turns back to her coven, the three of them raising their hands over the bloodstained altar, chanting in time. You feel the ground start to tremble as the witches power surges through the camp. The earth buckles, and you hear commotion from the camp as the orcs not involved start to react to the ground shifting and changing under their feet.

You watch the process curiously, the whole camp rises as a rocky hill pushes its way out of the flat earth. The edges are steep save for four sets of steps carved into the four sides. At the top of the hill, a low wall of stone circles the camp proper, high enough to block enemy projectiles, with a raised ledge on the inside for your warriors to stand on and use their spears on enemies foolish enough to scale it. It looks less like a camp and more like one of those human forts Ku'zag told you about now. If it's as much as a pain for your enemies as Ku'zag told you forts were for orcs, then it should fo nicely.

Ashuris turns away from the altar, looking a little drained, but glowing with pride as she looks over her handiwork.

“You see, chieftain, I told you. Let us keep making our sacrifices, and I will make it worth your while,” she says, chin raised, a slight smile on her face.

You grin, reaching round the ogress to grab hold of her ass, pulling her in close, unconcerned with the blood covering her.

“You have done well, Ashuris, you have made your master proud. Now let's go get some rest, tomorrow we march to the Stormhowlers.”

“I wasn't trying to make you... thanks,” Ashuris mumbles, following you back to the newly fortified camp.

So then, he playerbase has decided to challenge the chief directly after a show of strength, do we know how we want to do this? Letting a strong looking guy charge us and behead him, but realy, the point is not to be disrespectul but to be imposing, so a somewhat cold/stubborn attitude might be best.

Well, since things have died down again, I'll move on to the Goatfoot plan then, assuming we recruit the Stormhowlers without major incident.
The only thing I can really think of right now is to use the SH as bait with an ambush of our own, and have all the rest of our forces storm their camp, offer a chance at real glory instead of petty fights for the younger folk who seemed like they wanted to prove themselves, demonstrate our power possibly by killing nasty face and challenge the chief, while not necessarily trying to keep him alive.
We should definitely get the story behind the conflict if we can, however,it could provide a lot more options.
Also, we should remember to bring steel weapons and shit with us, enough to arm like 30 orcs, and some special equipment for the ladychief, to equip them as soon as they're under us and to have the decisive edge on the Goatfoot clan.
Of course, we'll have to leave them slightly behind us when challenging the chief, to not be attacked for them, and to make it a surprise gift to our new clan members, maybe hide them with a couple guards in a safe place if we can find one.
