Whats this? More Star wars Quests? How rude!

What is JAMQ: XCOM meets the Jedi Order. Take the role of a Jedi leading a new Jedi Temple during the time of the Old Republic. Part RPG Quest, Part Civ management Quest.

------------------------------

It is the time of the Old Republic. The Great Galactic war is in full swing with no end in sight. The Sith forces are at work mounting serious incursions in the outer rim and Republic Naval forces move to counter the Imperials over Sorenno.

It's hard not to notice the war effort even in the safety of Coruscant, soldiers bustle in hallways where once senators had prowled and entering or leaving the planet is to be willingly submitted to many scans and searchings.

Still the Jedi temple seems at peace, if empty. Many of the Jedi Knights and Masters are spread throughout the galaxy attempting to combat the spread of the Sith Empire. Now only those essential for the training of initiates remain.

And those present on special business such as yourself. Grand Master Zym has requested you personally the begin work on a 'special assignment of utmost importance.' You certainly hope whatever he has you doing will get you off the capital, it has been too long since you have seen the galaxy, let alone during the war.

As you walk you

Life Day banners hang precariously close to your head as make your way through the main halls. The celebration is still weeks off yet but you suppose the service corps are looking for any reason to bring some cheer into the temple, not that the younglings don't do a good job of that regardless. Plus, it must be nice for those Jedi returning from the various fronts to really feel like they've come back to a lived-in home.

As you make your way upwards towards the chambers reserved for Jedi Masters you pass a lecture hall filled with Younglings and Initiates. You do not notice who the teacher is but they must be quite lax since a small group run into the halls shortly after.

What do they call out?

>Sirra! Wait!
>Kirra! Wait!
>Akiva! Wait!
>[Other]! Wait!

The group catches up to you on the third landing huffing from the chase. Two girl Rodian younglings you know as Thedri and Val as well as an older boy, a human initiate you're fairly sure is called Diego.

What do they ask you?

>Who've you been talking to in the senate? Are they super important? Squeeks Val ((Negotiator Specialty))
>”Thedri keeps using her newly mastered force powers to annoy her sister, I was hoping you'd talk her out of it? Or at least show Val how to stand up for herself.” Asks Diego pleadingly. ((Force Sage specialty))
>”Think you'll have a chance to show us your cool REAL LIGHTSABRE tonight? You're so awesome.” Swoons Thedri. ((Martial speciality.))

“Akiva! Wait!” They shout in near unison.

”Thedri keeps using her newly mastered force powers to annoy her sister, I was hoping you'd talk her out of it? Or at least show Val how to stand up for herself.” Asks Diego pleadingly.

You smile like an older sister and scowl at the Rodian with the orange short mohawk.
“Thedri, a true jedi does not torment the helpless.” You say diplomatically, you see Val get ready to object.
“And a true Jedi can handle any torment. No matter how bad their hair is.”
The three laugh and you lightly scold the two girls before sending them on their way back to class.

A quick turbolift takes you to some of the highest levels of the Jedi Temple. These floors contain some great knowledges hidden in holocrons, the council chambers as well as the greatest masters personal quarters.

A tiny MSE droid guides you to Grand Master Zym's personal quarters and pages the occupant.
“Come in Akiva.” The Kel Dor calls from inside.

As you enter you are struck by mix of air. You know Zym was partial to flooding his room partially with helium to better mimic the atmosphere on Dorin, and to make his visitors voices slightly higher. Apparently this was 'to better suit his ears' but you're fairly sure the aging Jedi was simply a joker.

Zym is say cross legged next to a shuttered window. He looks up at you with

>Respect, you have known Zym for many years throughout your time as a Jedi Knight and now as a respected master.
>speculation, your actions early in the war during a daring space battle near Korriban granted you a speedy promotion from Knight to master, a fact that hasn't quite settled with you yet.
>Hope, you're a well known face around the temple and your knighthood has been a good one. It is likely you'll make master in a few years.
>Speculation, it seems like only yesterday that you passed your initiate trials and now you've left your master behind. Knighthood seems to new and anticlimactic to you.

We're a Jedi Master at this point, yes. It's just a matter of how long we've been a Master. You smile as you enter, taking up a seat across from the grand master. Zym has been at the temple for a longer stretch than normal recently, often at work meeting with senate officials and members of the service corps with some project in mind. The Kel Dor was prone to his side works.

You think for a moment before sighing.

“Truly it is hard to say. While we both both appear on even ground at a glance things are rarely so. Our commerical base and the spirit of out people is great but the Empires military might and fervour matches us if not overcomes us at each turn. However we can only hope that the Jedi of our order continue to do what the do best and bring peace to the force.”

Zym notes you for a moment not sure if your wide view is indecision or fear but appears satisfied due to your diplomatic nature. He to sighs, a slightly mechanical sound through his antiox mask, as he glances out the window through the cracks in the shutters.

“You speak the truth. But I fear the Jedi may not be safe in particular. The sith will always be drawn to us to prove their misplaced mettle and I fear if we are too wounded to aid the republic we shall all fail together.”

“I have spoken to the council about this at length.” Continues Zym, getting up to pace the room. “Some share my fears, others believe the war still to be won in a year or two, others...others are harder to read.”

“But we have agreed that the Jedi Order needs new homes. Coruscant while pertinent to our role is an amazing place to learn our ways, but should it fall, we need more places where the force sensitives of the galaxy can go to learn the ways of the light.”

He turns to you dramatically.

“We're organising three new jedi Temples to be formed over the next decade and I want you my friend, to lead the first.”

You consider the situation in your mind. The ships required, the movement of knowledge and material. It is a bold undertaking to say the least and that is without fighting a war at the same time. But Zym does seem dedicated to the idea.

“That a bold undertaking. The logistics alone could stretch the order to its limits for one temple as grand as this, let alone three.”

Zym waves his hand dismissively as he resumes pacing.

“The military has been taking a larger portion of the support for the war in recent months and many of our Jedi use their supplies rather than those of the order. So we have the means. It may not be easy or full of credits but it is possible.”

“So what would need to be done first? How is this organised?” You ask, leaning forward emphatically.

“Well, there is much that needs to be done. Ships selected, Jedi chosen, supplies gathered.” Zym begins, picking up a dataslate from a nearby desk and swiping through readouts. “I can show you the information here if I can have it sent to your quarters if you'd prefer to examine it in private.”

You decided to stay and go over the documents with Zym. The grand master seems excited and eagerly begins examining the gathered information with you. The documents cover available ships, the current occupants of the temple, current war information and a variety of other topics and it is enough to make your head spin and fill you with worry.

You and Zym spend much of the night either pacing, sitting or lounging around his quarters discussing ideas, fears and hopes for the new temples, in particular yours. Not just a few times you find yourselves discussing prior adventures and shenanigans around the temple, a welcome relief allowing you to for a moment forget the weight of the task at hand.

While many decisions remain to be concluded over the coming days two aspects of your preparation are complete. In a quiet moment in audience with the Jedi High Council you are presented the title of Jedi Academy Master, or simply Academy Master. A new rank, to suit the new undertaking.

And your location is decided upon.

>Valc II, a pleasant world were it not for the nearby borders of the Great Galactic War. The Valc system is in the galactic north and not far from Munnilist or Mygeeto. A terran world Valc is prone to violent storms and currently has some small settlements as well as a small republic military base.

>Deysum, a mid-rim world as harsh heat, Deysum is say neatly between Hutt Space and the core worlds, to the galactic south of Kashykk. Home to some few minor settlements the close proximity of Ubrikkia and New Apsolom have negated the need for growth in the sector.

>Enarc III, an outer rim world in the galactic south, Enarc III is a world of extremes, huge forests, and violent oceans. The sector is home to Enarc I, a populated trade and manufacturing hub but Enarc III is largely untouched.

There's a populated trade center next door. Without having to worry about Sith dickery or Hutts wanting jedi on their payroll and taking them young. Plus lots of other, unknown dangers in the Outer Rim. I'm sure we'll have to protect the people from something at some point, it's practically inevitable.

Back, look like Enarc took the cake.

>>
>>37060089
One population center does not have sufficient diversity of people and problems compared to the galaxy. Not having concrete exposure to bad elements will leave any training regimen about them will leave students at disadvantage when they will finaly encounter them in the field.

Picking Enarc is fine by me, but I disagree about the advantages and disadvantages of the location.
>>
>>37060215
That's actually a very good argument, and I respect it.

I still do think that having a main base of operations that can stay untroubled is the best. After all, we could have some satellite temples, or foxholes on more populated planets that we can send the more experienced to (with the guidance of a Knight) so they can experience the world as is.

So maybe, later when we set up the curriculum, we can organize a few weeks every semester where you introduce the Novices to new elements, like dropping them off in a war-torn area (or at least close to war) and see how they do (with backup ready, ofc).

Enarc III, an outer rim world far from the battle lines of the Galactic War. If Zym is afraid of some great tragedy befalling the Jedi on Coruscant he would be hard pressed to find a more isolated option to ensure the orders survival in the future.

You leave the Grand Masters chambers in the early hours of the morning with a smile on your face and determination in your mind despite your weariness. You have been given a great honour and intend to make the best of it for your order.

You sleep for a few hours in your chamber some levels below the Grand Masters and awake only slightly later than normal. You wash and meditate to ensure that you feel free and centered but you are eager to begin preparations in earnest. You examine a dataslate you were given by the Grand Master and it lists the requirements for your preparations and who you need to see about them.

>Master Aldretch, he will handle your recruiting and the assist you in selecting what Jedi you wish to bring with you.
>Major Ulai Serat, a attatche from the Navy who is overseeing our fleet of ships and transfer from naval service to our own. He will handle your ship selection.

That's why I really like the idea of an underwater base as the academy. Firstly, bombarding water doesn't really work (you'd need to tear up the planet before you could make water give in) and it would be pretty well hidden, if we had a decoy academy on the surface as well (for all classes that do require to be on the surface.

>Aldretch

About lightsabers.

We're force sensitive, so we're probably better with the force than without. So no matter what we choose for lightsaber, I really want to see us do some two handed Wielding, stealing other people's weapons from their hands and using those to kill them.

You make your way to the vast training halls in the lower parts of the temple to meet Master Aldretch. The information presented to you states that Daxo Aldretch is recently returned from the Outer Rim fighting the Empire to take the role of training co-ordinator in order to keep rotating staff. A combat focused Jedi, he has a long list of battle honours and even a battallion named after him.

You meet the tall Jedi on a balcony overlooking a large open hall. About fifty initates engage in lightsaber drills practising the various forms, watched carefully by Jedi Knights. Aldretch is standing with his hands on his hips, clad in plasteel armour similar to that worn by Republic Special Forces, with his robe laid over the railing. He hears you enter but does not turn.

“Greetings Master, here to take my recruits from me?” He asks without inflection.

You've never had contact with the man and you do not know how much he knows of you.

How do you respond?

“Just the ones you think are up to the job.” You say as you step up beside the other Jedi.

Aldrecht harrumphs agreeably before raising a small viewscreen which displays a number of personnel files and numbers. Many names fly as he scrolls quickly with purposeful swipes of his gloved hand, the other controlling the simulation being prepared below.

“Considering the time I'm assuming I'm the first you've come to see so Ill guess we're working in hypotheticals in regards to the exact numbers of personnel you're taking with you on this 'Project.' As such I believe we should just decide on what aspects you wish to focus on.”

Aldretch seems more agreeable and less stand-offish once he gets into his work. It might take some time to crack this hard shell if you were inclined to make him an ally.

“Personally I'd like your opinion on those who are up to it. They are your recruits after all.” You state.

“True, but I know recruits across the galaxy better than those below.” He retorts.

“So do you wish to examine support personnel or Jedi first?” He inquires, looking at you for the first time.

“Support, We're there to teach the students, and make sure they become the best they can. Full Jedi are going to be like doctors in a hospital: they're there, but for the real big problems. “ You say. Aldretch chuckles at this for a moment before displaying a readout titled “Operation Schoolbus”, obviously of his own creation.

“Apparently Zym has redirected a medium construction droid for your uses. Not a small piece of tech but it should allow you to build anything you need and keep it in working order.”

“You see many droids like this out in the rim?” You ask slyly hoping to pry some information out of the Jedi.

He glances across at your briefly, silent before stating gruffly “No. People build things far smaller out there. With their bare hands. And it's being torn down around them.”

He sighs grumpily before showing you a blank slot in the readout. “By my calculations of available personnel, ship space and credits you should have room for an additional support element. I've readied a few options that I think might be acceptable but if you've got your own ideas I guess it is your mission.”

He displays a few options available.
An additional construction droid would be useful for expansion and repairs to the new settlement.
A platoon of Temple Security would add some nice defence as well as piece of mind.
A group of support droids would provide mechanic, translation and maintenance in the form of Astromech and Diplomat units.
The Service Corps are available as well giving you the option to have failed Jedi assisting in administration and operation of the temple.
Finally he has 'Unconventional Support' detailing some starfighter pilots and various other questionable elements.

Oh baby you know I have ideas.

All of your options have their own merits, but I believe the best ones are going to be either Support Droids, which we can repurpose for many things, or the Service Corps/Unconvential Support, which we all know is the 'blue' option.

Or, hey, hey Jedayy, can we mash them all together so we have the legs of a construction droid, the biceps of temple security, the brain of Unconventional Support and the six pack of the Service Corps?

“Ill take the Unconventional Support. We're far from the chaos of the war and the Hutts where we're going, I'll need something to make the students life interesting.” You state.

“You choice, just don't blame me when they slice your temple secrets and detonate your favourite lightsaber.” Replies Aldretch, sliding the Unconventional Forces option into the remaining slot. He swaps the display from your support tab to the files on many Jedi within the Temple.

“Now onto 'the real problem' as you would put it. It's been left up to you to determine who you take with you on this enterprise and each one has its own benefits and drawbacks depending on what you want to do. Its also up to you how MANY of them you take, but since you don' t know what ship your taking be careful about taking to many otherwise your ship might start to look like a Sandcrawler rather than a Jedi Transport.” He informs you.

>You have up to three population points to spend. You can spread the points as you wish between the three options.

“First we have Younglings, the smallest of our order they require the most guidance and protection. But they are our greatest duty and our greatest hope. Your teaching of them will shape them to be the Jedi that will protect the galaxy.” Elaborates Aldrecht, oddly sincere.

>Younglings are the most malleable and good for morale of the Temple. However the do require more structured schooling and aren't incredibly combat powerful.

“Next are those who have passed their initiation. They are available to become Padawans but are still studying within the temple. They tend to find other areas of study, showing their latent skills but will eventually need field training.”

>Initiates are more durable than younglings and tend to pick up weird skills but also require structure and guidance lest they rebel or get into trouble.

“Finally we have our Knights. While many of our Jedi are out on the front some are still available to join you. Knights are powerful combatants and can teach others. The problem is they require resources and space more so than Younglings or Initiates. If you're unlucky this is because they have Padawans. If you're lucky its because they have their own ships.”

>Knights are the most powerful Jedi available to you. They tend to be specialized and may come with their own extra skill or equipment. However they need more space and resources than younglings or Initiates. They also may be called away on other business.

>You may spread your points as you wish, doubling or tripling up is allowed as is leaving points unspent.

>>37060996

Well.

How slow will we be with 3 population? And how many is one population?

I'd go for 2 Younglings and 1 Knight. Assuming they're trained properly, the Initiates will be Temple-Born and understanding of the rulesets in place.

>>
>>37061023
The point to population conversion depends on the unit. Younglings it may be between ten and fifteen. Initiates it may be between five and ten. Knights it would probably be between one and three.

The more you spend may simply limit the ship choice you have later.

My apologies for not be clearer.

Consider this our preparation for embarking (If your a DF player)

You have three points to spend, spreading them among the three different units (Younglings, Initiates and Knights) each will provide different benefits and characters as well as drawbacks and focuses for the game ahead.

This will surely change as your temple grows but it's a start.

I'd say 2 initiates and 1 knight with the stats you provided. We might not be able to take care of all the younglings.

“I'd like to focus on Younglings, if there really is a danger I'd like to be sure I have some safe away from the core.” You state. “And some Knights to assist in training and guidance would also be preferable.”

Aldretch mumbles to himself as he quickly disperses names with the practiced eye of a battlefield commander. When all is said and done you have been assigned twenty younglings and three Jedi Knights as well as their entourages whatever that may contain.

“With that done, I've done all you need me to do.” Closes Aldretch as he shuts down the view screen. Below a group of three Initiates are working alongside temple security to clear some training droids from a simulated urban environment. Aldretch looks pleased.

You say your goodbyes to the other Master as he watches over his simulated wars and make your way back out into the halls of the temple. Your droid leads you north through the temple towards the multitude of personal chambers held for Jedi who frequently stay at the temple before stopping at a door marked;

“Vash Niramar”

You know Vash from your time as a knight, while not close you have spoken to him before, well known for being calm no matter the situation he is also quiet skilled with his double bladed saber.

The MSE droid docks with the wall as you knock. Shortly after muffled footsteps proceed the door opening as a small Kel Dor girl glances up at you. Her Antiox mask has a small marking that denotes her as Padawan and a small lightsaber hangs at her side.

“Greetings Master, can I help you?” She asks evenly.

Vash wanders into view behind the Padawan and smiles at you. He is dressed simply in a tunic and pants with a Corellian bloodstripe. His green jedi robe lays over a cot nearby.

“Come in Akiva!” He says with rare happy inflection.

“I didn't realise you had taken a Padawan, Vash.” You say with a smile. “Introduce us.”

The Padawan stops cleaning, hands her master his green robe before bowing slightly before you.

“Padawan Eskol Ellan, Master Akiva. I've only come to be Master Vash's pupil recently.” She informs you formally with a hint of nerves. She's quite small and young, by all likelihood she probably only passed her initiation recently.

“Thanks Eskie, could you wait in the other room please?” Asks Vash as he settles his robe on before lounging across the couch. Eskol nods and quietly slips into the adjoining room.

“Yeah, I got her assigned to me once I arrived back from Corellia. Seems the council was annoyed at me taking my second oath” he nods at the robe he wears. “So they wanted to nail me down with a Padawan. I don't mind, she's my first and seems nice enough. Just have to break that nervous shell.”
Sitting up he leans forward.

“Zym is afraid that having the entire quantity of Jedi learning and operations in one place is bad idea. He's afraid that if something were to happen to Coruscant there'd be no repairing the Jedi Order. So he's sending me and whoever I bring out to found a new temple. I've been promoted to Academy Master and I've just finished picking my Jedi. Thus why I'm here.”

Vash blows air out in a shocked expression.

“Wow. Thats heavy. But I guess not unexpected. It's a big responsibility but I guess you're a good fit for it.”

You and Vash continue to chat for a while. He details his time in Corellia joining the ranks of the Corellian Jedi, a subsect of Jedi who are staunchly loyal to Corellia and allow marriage and childbirth in their ranks. Nearly deemed heretical by the High Council they are barely trusted. They wear green robes as a symbol of the Corellian Flag.

The MSE Droid leads you up and to the west before stopping at a row of apartments that run along the exterior of the temple, allowing their owners to enjoy views of the city skyline, for better or worse. It zimms down the hall before stopping at an open door. An older human man with a salt and pepper goatee is busy carrying a hard case in sideways through the door. His shoulder markings identify him as a member of Jedi Service Explorer Corps. A blaster and a light saber hang at his side . He introduces himself as Lucius Garnik, companion to Kiandro Neros and lets you inside.

“Something to drink would be excellent.”

Lucius prepares you a warm cup of chai before excusing himself to retrieve more of their supplies from the landing pad. You do not have much of a wait before Kiandra appears from a side room.

A tall and well muscled Mirialan woman, Kiandra wears her black hair in a bob and has minimal face markings. She smiles as she introduces herself and sits across from you. She seems kinda and soft spoken despite her large frame. She informs you that her and Lucius have been exploring the galactic north alongside republic analysis crew investigating new lifeforms and biology.

He specialities appear to lie in force use, particularly healing and life as well as scientific study. She has no padawan and he only real complication is Lucius who is indebted to her after 'an incident on Troydaria.'

You contiue to drink the chai as the conversation continues.

“So whats this about Toydaria? Why is he so indebted to you?” You inquire.

Kiandra nods ruefully before looking down at the ground.

“While I appreciate your seniority Master, I would request that the events of Toydaria remain between Lucius and I. They are harsh memories that I have very little interest in returning to. Suffice to say that there was pain involved.”

You decide to avoid the topic further.

You inform her of the specifics of your mission. Perhaps in not as much detail as you did with Vash but enough to inform her of the severity and importance of the role as well as what she would be expected to do. Kiandra seems interested, eager to explore a part of the galaxy she has never visited before but she is unsure about her ability to teach. She has not been a knight for long and feels she lacks the experience to pass onto others.

She appears to have no questions about the mission and awaits your orders to leave.

You say your goodbyes to Kiandra and Lucius reappears with some strange potted plants. You make a note as you walk down the halls to get to know her better on your trip to Enarc, she seems to be far less open than Vash was, but then again it was the first time you had met her.

The MSE droid leads you deep into the temple, near to where you met up with Master Aldretch. Here many of the larger combat training halls dominate the space of the temple but dotted here and there between armouries are small quarters for temple security forces and the more martial minded Jedi.

The door marked for Tax Zess is partially opened as you arrive. You slide it open and look into the dimly lit room beyond. A female Mon Cal, heavily scarred and with one pale, blind eye sits hunched over a small dining table. She scowls and grinds her jaw as she moves the pieces of an disassembled and oversized lightsaber about the table with the force. Pieces click in to place heavily as she does so.

Beyond her in a small space cleared for lightsaber sparring a thin, almost emaciated Mon Cal boy is performing a handstand in little but a loincloth. A pair of metal cubes shakily rotate around him as he does so, but the sound of you arrival breaks his concentration causing him to not only fall, but drop the cubes.

Tax is about your height with a pale blue complexion, offest by purple blotches and a myriad of blaster, lightsaber and vibro scars. She offers you a firm handshake before gesturing for you to sit at the dining table. She closes the door to the training area and switches off the light as the Padawan attempts to return to his handstand position.

“You're not the only Knight with a Padawan on this mission.” You inform Tax.

“Oh really? Who?” Inquires the Mon Cal as he manually puts the blade back together without looking.

“Vash Niramar, he has a new Kel Dor Padawan by the name of Eskol.” You reply.

Tax scoffs at the name, shaking her head.

“Niramar is damn good with his blade, but lacks the dedication to be a real warrior or a real Jedi. To eager to remain neutral and go with the flow, thats why hes forsaken us all with that green robe of his.” Grumble Tax. She ignites the long lightsaber to ensure operation before placing it back on the table.

You were unprepared for such a response but your training as a diplomat saves your calm and you manage to not verse opinion one way or another.

“Regardless what are your skills?” You ask.

“Well, I'm combat trained and has been deployed all over the galaxy. I trained extensively under Master Gurokka studying Form V and I was at Korriban when the satellites fell.” She explains, clearing her throat she continues. “I'm probably the most durable and experienced Jedi on your list.”

You nod slowly, regardless of her temperament it is useful to trained soldier on the mission. Even if they are more soldier than Jedi.

“Do you feel capable of teaching, within the confines of the mission that is?” You ask.

Tax nodds. “People learn best when they have no option to. Danger provides clarity and strength of mind in a way that is hard to replicate here. I'd happily put the younglings through their paces with a sabre.”

Guessing that's the last station before the naval attache to secure our ship.

Just remind her Younglings, lack the stamina of Initiates and padawans, and she should adjust accordingly. After all we aren't Sith.

“Just remember that these are Younglings not Sith, sometimes they need some caring.” You reminder her as you stand. She nods, standing also and walks you out.

“This is true, but strength is easiest born from strength. We can coddle the younglings all we wish but we need full Jedi now more than ever.” She reminds you.

You leave Tax with another handshake and a reminder to spar sometime once you're all settled down on Enarc. She nods and says that she looks forward to it, eyeing your twin sabers.

As you make your way down the halls towards the landing pads and your supply officer you can't help but think these Jedi will have a huge affect on your life in the coming months.

And we're gonna call it there guys. Thanks for making the first thread interesting. I'm looking forward to seeing where you guys take Akiva and her temple of misfits next.

Would someone mind archiving the thread? Also I'll still be around for a bit to answer questions and chat about the quest.

Again, massive thanks for playing.

Thank you for running!

Most star wars quests get a few threads then fade away. Thanks for running QM. I'm assuming once we get going, we're going to have to have initiates and knights run missions while the younglings get trained and act as the standard guard in xcom enemy within? (when we get hit by the aliens in our home base)

Thats the hope. Mixing between building the temple, messing with training schedules, guiding the younglings on their fun tweenage journeys.

As well as being as hands on as you wish with sending the Jedi out on missions out in the wider galaxy.
