You are Miko Chambers, a young and quite terrified girl in the pursuit of her missing rabbits and parents. Right now, you're playing poker with five masked people in order to win back Cookie, along with Lisl, the daughter of a man you've elected to help. Lisl was kidnapped, in almost exactly the same way Cookie was, and Mattias lost the game to win her back. Now, it's your turn. You cannot mess this up. Two lives are in your hands. Speaking of hands, It's the second one of the night.

Twelve shuffles the deck expertly and deals. You receive the Ace and Nine of hearts. Nobody makes a move to fold. You can't see Two's face, but you're sure that they're grinning under their mask.
“Nobody folds?” Silence. “Excellent. The entry hasn't changed.”
Two and Four (Or, you suppose, 'Bossqueath') push forth their bets. It won't hurt, you think. You've got a staggering amount of money in front of you in the first place, more than you've ever seen before, so you, too, decide to play. Eight pauses, before tentatively pushing forward the chips. Ten (Or, 'Shannon', you suppose), does the same.
“My, my. Nobody betting further?”
“Just show us the cards, please.” growls Bossqueath. Twelve says nothing, and reveals:
A Jack of Spades, a Six of Clubs, and an Ace of Clubs. You struggle to contain your excitement. A pair!
Two bets fifty, cool and quick, confidently. Four scratches behind their ear with an excellently manicured left hand, and flicks forward the chips, almost carelessly.

Meet.

Welcome back OP. Hope you had a nice Christmas.

Great!
I did have a nice Christmas, thanks.

You meet. The current pot is four hundred dollars. If you win this hand, you'll only have to win two more! You also don't have particularly bad cards, either. Eight looks around quietly, and then says, “I'll raise.” in an almost regretful voice. As though he's sorry for making the others pay more. One hundred dollars. The three other players stare daggers at him. Ten folds, disgusted.
“I'm going to step outside for a cigarette.”
“Very well,” says Twelve, “We'll keep your seat nice and warm for you when you come back.”
Two sips her tea daintily, and throws her chips onto the table without a word. Four folds.
>What do you do? Is it worth the risk?
You decide that Four was probably bluffing with their 'carelessness'. Two probably has something, due to how confidently she's playing. Though it could be a bluff as well. You're not quite sure about Eight. They could also be bluffing, but why would someone act regretful if bluffing?
You can either
>Meet
>Fold
Those seem to be the only sensible moves to do.
>>
>>37178821
>Meet
Eh, take a risk.
>>
>>37178821
How much will we have left if we fold?

Also, what were the terms of this game? We have to win tree hands right?
>>
>>37178870
Three hands...*
>>
>>37178870
We have to win three hands, plus two "challenges."
Folding isn't bad, per se, but if we fold too much, well...
We will have 400 left if we fold now, but if we win, we have the possibility of going into the next hand with more than a thousand dollars.

You look Eight right in his mournful eyes, and say, “Twelve, I'll meet.” One hundred dollars in chips passes from your hands. You feel that the experience of spending so much should, somehow, feel special, it should, to a certain degree, perhaps, electrify you. That's how Mummy explained shopping sprees to you. But if you win this, won't she be proud?

Twelve turns over the next card. Eight of Hearts. Nice. Shannon (Eight, that is,) checks. Your eyes circle around the pool-table wallpaper, how it's like soft, clubland green furze, how it would feel like Daddy's face, the day after he shaved, except, perhaps softer. You try very hard not to cry. You know you'll find them soon. You just know it! But thinking about that now isn't good or useful. You've got to be brave. Meanies and bullies just love seeing tearful girls, and there's no way you're giving them what they want!

Two also checks. They probably want to see the last card before going all out.
>Are you going to check also?
>Yes
>No

WHY YES YOU ARE! These people don't scare you in the least. And Twelve turns over the final card, a Six of Diamonds. So, the cards in front of you are Jack of Spades, Six of Clubs, Ace of Clubs, Eight of Hearts, and Six of Diamonds. You have a rather respectable two pair, Aces over Sixes. Shannon actually giggles. You decide that you don't like him at all. You're halfway through formulating something along the lines of “Mister, you're a mean, mean person and I don't like you.” before he bets. A further hundred. The pot is now at eight hundred dollars. You can't help but to excitedly tap your feet together under the table. Oh man. Two grumbles that she's getting too old for this shite, and folds.

(This is the last 'round' in the hand, after your decision here, we see if Eight's been lying to us)
>>
>>37179185
I still vote for fold.
>>
>>37179206
>>37179176
>>37179168
As usual, I'm going to give it five minutes, and then roll a d2, where 1 is fold and 2 is play.
>>
Rolled 1, 2, 1, 1, 1 = 6 (5d2)

(This is quite an important roll, so best of five)
>>
I'm gonna guess he had Jack, six.
>>
Rolled 1, 2, 2, 1, 1 = 7 (5d2)

You fold, throwing your cards face up on the table. You're not going to win this. It was pointless. You can feel Eight's ear-to-ear wide grin as he turns over his cards. King of Hearts, Jack of Diamonds. You- you had better, you could've beaten- it was going to be- you sniffle and rub your eyes. Meanies, all of them. And now you're probably not going to win at all, and then you're never going to see Cookie or Lisl again and you've let everyone down you stupid girl. You give yourself a harsh telling-off. Another part of you suggests that it's just a game and the money wasn't yours and it's going to be fine. Eight laughs until he coughs. A raucous, braying laugh, like that of a hyena mixed with a donkey. You want to cover your ears and hide under the table. It hurts. Like, really badly.
“Mister Shannon, that's very unsportsmanlike.” says Twelve.
“The stupid little- she, she lost!” he says, his voice light and almost squeaky from the giggles.
“We can all see that, Mister Shannon.” You've had enough of this meanie. You're going to put him in his place. You get up from your chair, and tuck it in. All eyes in the room are on you. Even Eight's stopped his awful laughter. Slowly, surely, you walk over to Shannon. Foot in front of foot. Like a tightrope walker. You extend your hand.
“Well done.” you say.

Shannon looks flabbergasted. What in the world does this little idiot think she's doing? He's never quite seen anything like this before.
“I would like a challenge, sir.” you say to Twelve. “I'd like my challenge to be with Mr Shannon, please. Is that at all possible?”

Ten stands, frozen, in the doorway. It's as though everyone had been temporarily turned to stone.
"Well, in light of Mr Shannon's rather uncouth behaviour, and Ms Chambers' excellent sportsmanship, I think that I will allow it. What will the challenge be, Mr Shannon?"

Shannon puts his hands face down on the table. He closes his eyes slowly.
"Riddles." he says.
>>
>>37179450
Welp, that didn't go so great.
>>
>>37179580
I hope you're good at riddles...I'm not.
>>
Rolled 2, 2, 1, 1, 2 = 8 (5d2)

You find yourself in another room, entirely empty, save for the table and two chairs, at which you're currently sat at. The wallpaper is salmon-coloured, with pale fleur-de-lys all over it. The wainscotting is neat and white and pure, and rectangular.
“This is a quite simple and straightforward game. I ask you five riddles. If you get three or more correct, you win. That's all there is to it.”
“And what happens, Mister, if I lose?”
“Well, you'll have to take a forfeit. I won't be going easy on you, shrimp.”

Some part of you thinks that you've elected to do a horrible thing, and that you shouldn't be here right now. That same part wants to hide under the covers at home. However, it's just riddles. Daddy said that you're quite clever when it comes to them, so you see no reason to feel- but then again, you're alone in a room with a Meanie, and, while that isn't the worst thing in the world, you weren't allowed to take your spirit level with you. So that means, if things get a bit scary, you only have your hands and feet. Eight is a quite stocky man, and so fighting him one on one, entirely unarmed will probably end in tears.

You think desperately about Cookie. He'll be so happy to see you! You'll cuddle him and everything will be fine. You're not going to lose. Do it for him!
>What are you going to do?
>Act brave
>Act cocky
>Act scared
>Be serious.

>>37179649
>Act brave

Yeah, might as well. Maybe we can fool ourself too.

“I'm not afraid of you! I'm going to give it my all and get my bunny back, Mister! Just you see! I promise I will.”
“Very well.” he says, his voice sharp as icicles. “Let us begin.

She has two heads
and wears a bright green tutu
one has blonde hair
the other, white
and when God breathed on her
her white hair
fell out

What is she?"

>Well?
>[Write in]
>>
>>37179812
A dandelion.
>>
>>37179864
>>37179864
Correct.
"'S a fluke," he says, "You must've heard it somewhere. I won't go so easy on you next time."

I'm really sorry, guys, but I may have to stop here. I'm sorry if it's been a shit thread. I'll probably come back later, but not for a while.

Any comments/questions/suggestions/whatever?
>>
>>37179951
Eh, it wasn't too bad. The riddle was okay, though obviously it relies on the 'no googling' honor system. Poker didn't really work.
>>
>>37179972
I would prefer that people did not google the answers to the riddles, in the spirit of fun. I remember people quite enjoying poker last thread, but then again I couldn't be sure.
>>
>>37179951
I thought the poker was fine and the riddle was pretty good. And I promise I didn't google the answer.

Thanks for running.
>>
>>37180013
I'll be back in a few hours, most likely, just need to get some rest and some tea. Illness is quite the bitch.
>>
>>37179991
Poker was fine.
The players for the beginning of this thread were obviously diffrent and apparently much less strategy inclined.

It's not your fault they suck at poker.
>>
The room, for a long time is silent. You nervously toe the ground. Things will be just fine, you know they will. But you've got to be patient. Just keep up the good work, and don't mess this one up. He gazes at you with an imperious sneer in his eyes. You can imagine his lip curled in repulsion by your dirty crudeness. If only you were seen and not heard, or some silly adult's nonsense like that. You can feel your heart cantering in your chest. You do enjoy riddle-games,but this game is a little unnerving and you're not sure whether you want to continue to play, but
"Oh but you must continue, my darling.", comes Shannon's voice. "Please, humour me."
His voice clean and clear and sharp, he says, “Let's try again, shall we? A clear-cut thing, sliver of space, filled with two of one and one of eight: a pillar from the burning beach, inside, the contents cool and sweet. What is it?”
>>
>>37182142
Just to let you know, the threads not dead

Just thinking.
>>
>>37182142
>>37182142
Gonna hate myself if I get this wrong.

Is it a beach umbrella?
>>
>>37182554
The "pillar from the burning beach" is not literal. Have another go. I worded it slightly poorly, a "pillar wrought from burning beach" would be more accurate.
>>
>>37182142
>A clear-cut thing
Obvious or transparent thing

>sliver of space,
Small container

>filled with two of one and one of eight:
No clue what this is

>a pillar from the burning beach,
Something made of glass

>inside, the contents cool and sweet
Cool and sweet things.

A glass cup of some kind?
Sorry Spec but I think I lose this one.
>>
>>37182809
Damn son. You did very, very well.
>>
“A-a glass, right? It's a glass- 'clear-cut'; 'pillar from the burning beach'? Glass is made of sand. Daddy told me, so it's gotta be a glass.”
“Yes, a glass. What's inside it?”
You pause. Eight gets angry. It's like a fire sucked all the air from a room.
“Oh come on, you idiot. Apply yourself for one damn moment.”
You eep silently. You've gotta be brave here. Cowardice is not an option,
“Haven't you even seen a periodic table before? Christ, fucking kids these days.”
He's just demonstrating how much of a meanie he can be, you decide. He's doing this to scare you. That just because you say rude and mean things to an eleven year old girl, it will cow her and make her complacent and defeatable. No.
>>
>>37183026
Pick the obvious and say water.

I'm not all that up on the periodic table but if it was something like liquid calcium we could at least object.
>>
“A glass of water.”
“H-how did you- you bitch!” He kicks the table over and steps up. “You're not smarter than me,” he roars. “I'm a man, you're just a child. I've done things you'd never dream of. Seen places you've never even heard of.”
“Well Mister, I have two things you don't.”
“And what may those be?”
“Bunnies, and a soul.”

I think I'm going to end there on that quite brutal par.
>>
>>37183382
>“Bunnies, and a soul.”
Ouch, iceburn.

Awesome as always Specificity.
Take it easy and get well soon.
>>
>>37183382
Thanks for running! Missed the second part but oh well.
