It had been almost a year since a new family moved into the manor by the hill. Marcus was a proud, card-carrying (not really) member of the local thieves guild.

He had pulled a job in that house before, knew how expensive a residence it was, and knew the ways in and out of it.

It was too good a target to miss.

For several months now, he had studied the family members. It was... strange. He was not able to see their levels, no matter how hard he focused, many of them had ??? where a normal person's level numbers would be.

The adults were fine, however. High level, yes, but fine. The kids could not be higher than their parents, right? perhaps it was some new and fashionable anti-kidnapping trend among the wealthy?

Not that Marcus cared for it. He was no kidnapper, he was a professional thief, and this house was a repeating customer.

The children left for school every morning, the sole male adult left shortly after, leaving the women and babies in the house.

Sometimes they, too, left together for the marketplace, leaving the house alone for a few hours, but while such was an ideal time to strike, there was no indications or regular times for such excursions.

They could go out for a entire morning, or they could just go for a walk around the block.

After careful consideration, Marcus decided that striking at night was actually a bad idea. Too many people in the house, and two were beastmen, which meant trying to sneak past their keen senses during the time where they would be naturally alert.

Of course, the best time would be during the morning, when the older kids were in school and the house's patriarch was out.

Marcus was not a violent person, and prided himself in going unnoticed while at work. Go in, grab the valuables, and go out.

There was a problem, however.

The lady of the house... the ladies of the house, it seemed, both of them were "villagers".

What happened to the times when only the rich and wealthy nobles could affors such a house. Villagers and slaves, with their portable Item Boxes (which someone may call a inventory) made everything complicated.

They had very little need to keep their valuables on nice treasure chests or strongboxes, jewelry cases or shelf. They could simply keep them on themselves, which meant it would take a very specific set of skills in order to get to those.

Thus, Marcus had decided to strike twice. Once right at dawn, when people's guard is at its lowest. The children are going to school, the house is just waking up, the ladies are still getting ready for the day and breakfast was still being consumed.

At this time, he hoped to infiltrate the house and learn where and if there were any valuables being kept in the house at all.

Well, while everyone is still sleeping, Marcus moves in before sunrise and crawls over the grass towards the crystal house.

It seems to be full of... pots?

He opens the door... unlocked? did they actually made a CRYSTAL building for garden tools? surely if it had something valuable, there would be more security.

Sneaking in, Marcus looks around in the dim light of the hour before sunrise.

It looks like many pots with exotic and bright flowers. Perhaps a fancy herbal garden? these could actually be worth something with the right peo...

A tiny... girl? a tiny girl with wings, wearing a bright yellow dress with black lines, and clear insect wings on her back, holding tiny (if high quality-looking) farming tools is buzzing at him.

She is standing on top of a large flower, buzzing at him in an inquisitorial manner.

He pulls out a large flask from his item box...

"Bzzz?" ~the tiny faery looks at him with some aprehension while holding a tiny garden hoe with both hands

As Marcus' hands approach her, she tries retreating, hugging the tiny tool against her chest. There is a soft "tap" sound as she hits the crystal wall behind her, then tries to fly off to the right, but the man's reflexes exceed her own, and he quickly catches her, swatting her into the flask and covering it with a pot while he pokes some holes into the lid.

"Bzz!?"
"Don't worry, we're just going for a walk"
"Bzz! BzzZ! BZZZZ!"
"Calm down, you can't break that"

The little faery hits the flask with the gardening tool, making a "tap tap tap" sound that echoes softly across the crystal house.

Suddenly, a soft, but pervasive buzzing sound comes from the two large structures in the back of the room.

Well, Marcus would have gotten to them soon enough.

They look like two tiny, grand-looking earth and clay castles. Like a faerytale castle, but just as tall he he is.

Then he hears it, the sound of thousands of wings buzzing in time, and sees the rest of the faeries pouring out of the castles...

Was going to use it while describing how the flasks breaks and the bees rescue their sister, then they all together chase Marcus all over the garden, through a bush, through a neighbor's house, and finally lose him when he dives into a sewer.

Well, Marcus has more professional pride than that. He'll come back for a honey faery... one day, sometime, probably.

First, let's check what the ladies of the house are hiding.

The plan: Infiltrate the house near dawn, when even the beastribe girls will be asleep, crawl into the rooms, and use the thief jobs skills to check everyone's inventories, then try and pickpocket any valuables.

Thus, Marcus goes and gets his cuts and bruises healed, then goes to rest for the day. Tonight, he will be very busy.

Eldric, Lyann, Stella and Zoe come back, play, cuddle, have dinner, a bath, and go to bed as usual after studying. Mom always makes them study.

It is about sunset when Marcus wakes up. He checks his tools and makes doubly sure everything is ready, then goes to wait for the very late hours of night before trying to break into the house.

Marcus doesn't use a grappling hook. He shoots a metal bolt with a ring to the end, nailing the wall and then using that to climb. It's his calling card.

Within seconds, he's caught again.

She's standing next to him on her bare feet, ankles at shoulder distance as she wags her tail and asks him to throw it away again.

She seems happy.

Marcus scratches behind her ears, then takes the bolt, loads it into the crossbow, and shoots it away before running once more.

"Stiiiick!"

He's soon caught again.

In the morning...

"Stella, why were you sleeping outside the street door? you are all covered in leaves and grass and stuff. Look what you did to your poor robe"
"I was playing with the stick!" ~she says, extremely proud~ "I caught it every time!"
"...whatever" ~says Eldric with a sigh~ "Please go have a shower. We need to go to school now"
"Alright!"

Meanwhile, Marcus is drawing a large red X on top of Stella's window on his map of the house.

This time, Marcus has a horse nearby, and is ready to ride away at full speed if the brown wolf girl jumps out and bites his bolt out of the air again.

Also, he had to dump that bolt and is using a new one. The old one had too twisted from the bite marks to be useful any more.

[Alright... let's get ready to run...]

This time, nothing weird happens. The bolt sinks above the window frame and Marcus climbs the rope up to the open window.

[This room smells really nice?]

A scent that seems to hit all of the nostalgia buttons hits Marcus as he leans towards the window. It reminds him of his childhood friend, and of running through fields of flowers, and frolicking on the grass. Of his first kiss and of promising to become a great adventurer before coming back and marrying.

It smells of first love.

All the feels, man. All of them.

Crying at what has become of him, Marcus climbs down the rope, and takes out his official thief mask. He wipes his tears clean on his sleeve, and wonders if the girl he loved is still waiting for him.

Marcus is a new man.
The following morning, he resigns the thieves guild, and gives up his life of crime.
Soon, he goes back to his hometown.
Love is waiting for him there.

Indeed, it was the most dangerous window.

Lyann points to the hanging rope and the bolt over her window while they stand by the gate before school.

In the end, they just placed some bars outside her window. She's more than strong enough they are not really a barrier for her if she needs to get through for any reason.

Also, when the new year comes around and our annual income from our dukedom hits, we are gonna get an extra 200k which we need to decide on how to spend. Military improvement or civil improvement (like education, health and such). Remember we are the duke of the capital so we are talking of "if will affect 5 million people" here.

Are there different currencies?

I just imagined a weird scene where everyone thought all money is the same, until someone picks up a second currency, and suddenly a dropdown box appears in their "wallet", allowing you to choose which currency to view.

Converting currencies would still happen at the bank, but with the difficulty of recording cash flow and relative wealth due to money literally popping out of mobs, nobody really bothers changing the exchange rates.

Thus, after the club members leave, we stay and help her.

She actually does a lot of physical labor, too. She puts away the chess boards and pieces, places the chairs on top of the tables and sweeps the floor, then lowers the chairs and polishes the tables.

Once that's done, she dusts off the window frames, and washes the windows, then finally cleans the blackboard and sits down to write down the game reports of the day.

"Ritsu, you do this much every day?"
"Oh? this much its only natural. The school rules say that the club members have to keep their own clubs clean and orderly."
"I always thought they sent a clerk to do that... but shouldn't we all take turns and help?"

Lyann sighs. She is sitting on top of a table after having finished helping to wash the windows. She looks rather cute with her bare feet hanging off the table.

probably, but I just converted everything into the Coalition currency.

Alguian currency is worth about the same, and Heavenly coins actually have twice the gold content in them, and the very solid and uninterrupted government of the empire, their coins are widely accepted and trusted. Plus really nice and artistic engravings so they are basically worth twice as much.

And yes, the monsters drop coins of the type corresponding to the country they spawn in.

you know, in her 3.x version, Aritsu was the intelligent golem? I made her into one of those golems with a wind elemental inside that appear in the MMII, the ones that fight using two rapiers that pop out of their arms, wolverin-like. We pick the books... oh, there's the missing funds "hole" from that time when Okaba stole money from the club... that's sort of nostalgic.

And then the spike of the coming month, when we helped him pay it back so the club had twice the income for a month... I guess Aritsu noticed since she recorded the whole thing.

XP on character sheets was just updated and posted yesterday. I think a bigger issue has been thread time. King is feeling the weight of the eyesight loss, so he has been pressing the story a bit more then we might of happened normally.

Well, it looks like her answer to "worried about thieves" is "no".

Thanks to Lyann's assistance (when she IS helping instead of teasing Eldric, she is actually very good at pretty much anything she does), and Aritsu's innate understanding of the books (she wrote them, after all), we manage to finish a little before sunset.

The club is very well off, money-wise, but it looks like, excepting new students joining in next year, and losing graduating ones, we have already hit the maximum size for it.

The club room is barely enough, but it is, in the end, enough.

Now that the weather is warm, many club members are playing in the gardens of the university instead of inside the club room, anyway.

Somehow, I felt Lyann was more of a buffer and debuffer with Bard being the obvious example.

She also has right now, a lot of tricks to improve how she harvests energy into mana crystals. We could probably continue along that line, for divine spell tricks.

That said, I have said many times that I would like to hear your (and i mean everyone's) ideas for tricks, spell, divine or weapon varieties.

Eldric seems to be going summoner and crits.

Lyann I really felt was going buff/debuff with mana crystal manipulation.

Zoe is the one I always felt was the healer or would be the healer.

Stella is just a combat beast, I think?

Mako... I'm not sure, really. She's a noble so she can't be a scion, so her stats can be super high but she does has to specialize, by design.

In a sense, it feels like the best people for the "main party" are all going to be slaves because of the scion class.

Should we have a talk with Mako about her taking the clase later? we have said she will grow more naugthy and fun, probably the way Lyann is much more playful now than she was at the beginning.

I could see "I'll be your slave" as a tease thing, much like it is with Lyann (who in the end, really DOES sees herself as "Eldric's" but doesnt thinks of it as a bad thing in any way) right now. That is fine, if that is the way Mako will do it. She is marked as the Slave to Ren, and then released after a week. As everyone knows she will be founding a branch family for the not-china. Mako/Eldric descendants are there, Lyann/Eldric are on the other side eventually.

Dragons level with age, like everyone else, just that it truly needs a lot of xp, as first level 100, then 150, ect. So unless they power level, only the really old become the biggest dragons.

After enough changes, she shifts to an Eastern Dragon, which close in on Deity status.
