Hey everyone and welcome back to P:SS, NESS EDITION! Because Ness is love, NESS IS LIFE!

Voting periods will be 10 minutes usually, with votes during high-stakes, "react fast!" events taking 5 minutes. I will wait 10 minutes here, initially, so that people can show up.

Write-ins are always welcome and, actually, I try to reward them when possible. Creativity, flexibility, thoughtfulness... All important things to consider when you're in the middle of guiding Grey through this quest.

If you have any questions or concerns at any point in the quest, please feel free to voice them. That said, let's try not to shitstorm in thread. That hasn't been a problem with this quest and that's because you guys, the playerbase, are the shit. Keep up the good work.

There's a brief pause.

"Erwin that can wait. I need your help. Please. I know why the attacks are happening. I swear to anything and everything I think I know how to stop it."

"Grey, Grey'n... You... You'se nah kidding now, are you'n?"

"I swear to god I was tortured by the people responsible for this. I'm dead serious."

You do so. You start with explaining the signal and the Professor's research, turning your connection to such into an explanation for why you were captured and fucking tortured. You glossed over your escape, instead focusing on getting to the Ranger Station and your current situation. Then you help him put the pieces together, cluing him in to some of your knowledge about the ARC. It takes... some time and convincing.

"Grey, you... You be tellin' me there's something out'na world thas been keeping all the 'Mons sane?"

"Turn on your video feed, Erwin. I want you to see my expression right now." The video feed flickers out of black a few times before Erwin's feed comes in rather clear. You look him dead in the eyes.

"I've never been more serious about anything in my life, Erwin. The ARC is real, and there's a signal being put out to interfere with it. You know what? It's TITAN that's doing it. The same fucks that tortured me and did this to me:"

You flash him the back of your shoulder, where a scar is still healing up. You look back to him and he's nodding solemnly, but with a smoldering anger in his eyes.

"I need your help. You're the only person who can help me that I trust. We have to stop the signal. I need you to come get me. I know some places it may be coming from."

"A'right. A'right..." Erwin takes his chin in his hand and starts looking around off-screen, an uneasy energy in his form. "''Scuse my language, screw'n these govahmen' types. They don' know shit bout whas goin' on. Time fah some real work'n be done!"

"Alright, Erwin. I'm at the North Georgia Ranger Compound. I'll send you something, or do you know where it is?" He nods before asking a couple clarifying questions. You go over some details for a bit before he signs off. "Oh, Erwin! Erwin! Dani's number? Please?"

"Ah course. You ready? It's...."

You have Dani's number, Erwin's coming to help... Things are looking up, right?

You just let that last note hold in the air: you let the sound of her voice linger on your ears. You savor it, you lock it into your heart... It's such a relief. Such a fuckin relief.

You sigh, happily. A tear runs down your face.

"Hello...? Is anyone there?"

"Dani? It's me. It's Grey."

Silence. Quiet. Part of you (a morbid, dark part) wonders about the possibility of a trap.Part of you wonders if she's crying, if she's happy... If she missed you as you missed her.

"Dani?"

Her voice is a harsh whisper: a voice drawn out over sadness, pulled over a heart full of misery... "Grey. Gre-eyy... I, I... I th-thought you were dead." The sobbing starts not in a burst, but as a trickle. Bottled up tears, sadness, and fear is let out to wash over the girl. You join her, tears quietly running down your own face.

"I'm not. You're not. I'm alive. I miss you."

"I missed you so much, Grey. I miss you." You listen to the sounds of rustling and tears being wiped away. "I'm kissing the screen, Grey. Oh god I love you, you... you beautiful man, you...! Oh damn it's really you! It's really you; it's really you.... Please tell me." She gasps and sets to sobbing again. "Please Tell me it's not another dream? Pleaseplease..."

No, it's... It's not a dream. It's been a nightmare.

She laughs a bit. "Yeah, there's... a lot to talk about. Holy shit it's actually you..." She sighs and laughs; it's the laugh of pain leaving, of happiness finally finding you like a long-lost friend. "What happened? Where were you? Why didn't you call me sooner?? I've been trying to reach you for a week now!"

"I know, I know. Fuck." You lean back into your chair and just let your body sink. So much to say... "I was captured. TITAN? The ones supposedly helping? They captured me. They're responsible. They tortured me, Dani."

She gasps. "No. What? No. Tortured...? Wh-... What do you mean? What they hell did they do to you?"

You go on, explaining in small detail but detail nonetheless what your experience has been like. You tell her everything: the dreams, the ARC, the signal, the professor's research... She listens intently and you let it all pour out: your fears of dying in that room, of dying to Kal's beatings. You explain how you understand Ness's transformation to have worked. You tell her that Ness saved you and you practically owe her your life... Whether it was the ARC's influence or not doesn't matter, as she's continued helping you.

You... haven't yet mentioned Ness's other issues.

More important things are at hand. "Dani? Do you... Do you know what happened to my team? Mittens? Grim? They were fighting with me but I... I lost them in the confusion afterwards, though."

Dani gives a sad smile.

"Dani...? Where's Nereid?" No response. She's crying again.

"She's... She's alive, Grey. I'm sorry. We're all sorry." You don't like where this is going. You want it to stop. You were supposed to protect them! "When the attacks started Nereid got hit hard, and... The power went out in blocks. No good-working Med tech."

Her voice goes down to a whisper. She doesn't look at you.

"The MedCenters were full and not working well, yeah? Uhm, they... they couldn't help. Her arm was treated but she was attacked and her arm, Grey, Nereid lost an arm-I'm-so-sorry."

Sobbing. You pick out a few more words.

"They got Paddy, too. Fuck they got my Paddy...!"

TITAN guys were going after them, trying to shoot them but most of them didn't stand a chance..."

"I'll come to you. Soon. Stay around or near there. Be safe. I'll need to talk to everyone, Dani... Or at least Mittens." You both nod at each other. Dani's fighting to smile at you through her other, more-pressing emotions. "I got in touch with Erwin, right? Erwin's going to get me to you, okay? I need to take out a Tower nearby first, though."

Dani stops at that, her body and her breath freezing. "Then I'll go with you. We all will, I'm sure. We all want... We all want to fix this, Grey."

"Right. I understand. I don't know if we could all get there soon enough, though..."

"Yeah... Uhm, okay. I'll get Mittens?"

"Thanks."

Mittens comes into view and you explode with bittersweet delight as you watch her run on two legs, her body a dark off-white color now. She's grown so much, it seems like...! She practically tackles the video, tears rolling down her face as she cries and scratches, trying to get to you. You can't hear her mind, can't understand her crying and mewling...

She nods with a great passion.

More nods, and she tries to speak to you. Unfortunately, you still don't speak cat...

"I love you. So much. You love me too?" A big hug to the camera. You chuckle. "Of course you do. I'll see you soon, Dani can tell you about it. I... Can you get her?"

Mittens kisses the screen before wiggle-waddling away once more. You smile to yourself as you wait...

Dani comes back with Erica and Nick in tow. All four of you set to chatting and talking. There's more tears, jokes from Nick, a lot of explaining... Soon though, it's just you and Dani again. You feel both more empty and... the most emotionally sound you've been in days.

"So are you going to introduce Ness, Grey? I still need to thank her."

"Ness? Sure. Be right back!" You retrieve your friend from upstairs. She was playing cards with the Rangers and, to their surprise, winning soundly. Good poker face.

"Dani? This is Ness. Ness? This is Dani." Yeah. Kinda quiet and awkward. "Should I leave...? Give you too time to talk? I, uh, figured Dani would be a good friend for you, Ness."

Ness looks back and forth with a cool, silent expression. Your heart drops a bit. Why is she being so cold?

"I would like that. Friends. Yes, there is much to discuss. Grey? I will retrieve you when we are done."

I turn to the computer: old, functioning, currently possessed by a Rotom. That was a clever thing for Grey to think. I am impressed.

The screen shows Dani. I know her to be Dani, and I know much about her: glimpses of what Grey knows, small touches and fragments of memories. I respect and admire her for many reasons. She has many good qualities, seems to be well-skilled at sexually pleasing Grey, is intelligent yet likable, and she holds Grey's admiration and adoration. I want to be her, be liked by her, and even... Like her, already. Perhaps that is an artifact of having touched Grey's consciousness.

"..Ness? Ness?"

I snap to attention. I was "lost in thought" which is an absurd idiom because how can one be "lost" inside their "mind" which is on their person at all times?

"Dani. Dani? Yes. You are Dani..."

"Yes! Nice to meet you. Thank, uh, thank you for saving Grey. We're all really lucky it happened."

"Ah. Yes, there was no luck involved. It was perhaps more a design flaw or feature that psychically connecting with Grey triggered such a reaction."

"Design...?"

"The construction of Grey's mind." She goes quiet at that. There is no response, and she now seems sad or upset. Ah. "You... You do not receive the notion of human 'construction' well because you are a clone."

She looks at me with a slightly defensive yet curious look.

"Yes. How did you, uh, know that? Did Grey tell you? And what is that supposed to mean, I 'don't receive it well?'"

"I believe I may have offended. My apologies. I am a clone, too. In one sense, 'Seline' was a clone. I am one. Yes."

"I see. It's tough, yeah?"

"I do not empathize with your statement."

"Oh. Okay..." I believe I have triggered another "awkward silence." I am rather proficient in doing such. "So, uhm... How is it traveling with Grey?"

"Okay, okay..." She seems confused, angry, and stressed. This is surely my fault. "Well thanks for telling me, I guess... Why did you tell me? Why do you like him even though, uh, you know...?"

I think on this for a few moments.

"In order to shift blame from myself, I wish to say that it is the result of our minds melding, however briefly. However, I do not consider such an answer truthful: I love Grey and continue to do so voluntarily. It is my choice. However, I have resigned myself to the fact that he will not be mine in the short term or ever. Most likely he will never leave you before his mission with the ARC is finished. She watches me warily. She moves to speak several times, I do not know what to say, so I "blurt" something else out:

I walk away as one might say "sexily," teasing Grey with my hips. On top of the kiss we just shared I imagine it is sending his body and mind into a crazy sort: perhaps he is cursing his luck at not having me!

A girl can hop-

I stop and fight the urge to turn around. I simply add a soft "Yes?" while crossing my arms.

"Dani said you could kiss me?"

"Yes. She did."

"Ah."

I stand there. My whole body is urging me, my mid is urging me, my "heart" is urging me... I turn around. I turn around and I hury to Grey. He is standing and I throw my arms around him: our lips meet. They meet and our bodies meet and my mind is aflame. This is so good; it is everything I wanted, dreamed of, and more.

We kiss and kiss and touch on in that hallway for how many minutes I do not know. It is bliss. I am hard-pressed to ever part away from Grey and his touch ever again. Doing so now is a great challenge. I shall cherish his taste, feel, and smell.

You set that aside and set your mind to preparing your team. Your team isn't battle-hardened, no, but they seem to trust you. Sprig worries you: he's youngest at heart, but you saw him fight that Mightyena. His status effects will come in handy for sweeping... And Bonnie can shrug off attacks. Apollo can clean up and douse rooms in fire.

This shit is morbid, but necessary... You're probably going to have to kill. Maybe the towers are fully staffed? Who knows.

Ross is a giant pain. He's unruly, and you have to get him to understand punishment and reward incentives. It's basic training, and he's stubborn as hell. He isn't as bloodthirsty anymore, though. That's good. Ness eventually starts to reign him in with the help of her gun, actually. A couple shots and Ross is cowed a bit.

"Fuck." You move towards him even as Ross begins to unleash the blast. "NO RIDGE! NO!" It's like a slow-motion comedy: the bike comes out, the blast is unleashed, and the bike is hit.

There's a tiny blast, and fire.

The bike goes up in flames.

Things are serious right now: do you guys want to wrap stuff up and get back to relaxing soon? Maybe knock out some towers and go undercover, exploring the wilderness while avoiding TITAN in towns?

Do you guys want to end the quest / main quest after dealing with TITAN? We could re-roll a different character or come back a year later to actually do the TOUR as Grey. I figure the administration will let Sorties have a do-over seeing as how the world was threatened...
