You’re running down one of the many alleys of Karakura town, suffocating the chance to scream with gasping, erratic breathing. You’ve been running for a while now - your legs feel heavy, as though made out of lead, breathing hurts your chest, and you don’t know how much farther it is to safety. Maybe in your situation there simply is no such thing.

You really can’t help but keep thinking that each step you take will finally be your last. Yet you keep running.

Perhaps it's because you know that the only alternative is death.

It’s so tempting to look behind you, to see if it’s still there. You can’t hear the shrieking anymore, but you can still feel its eyes watching you. The intensity of its urges gives it away. The hunger it feels is maddening and it is directed at you.

You fall face-first onto the cold asphalt. Perhaps the pouring rain caused you to slip, or you tripped on something you didn’t notice in the dead of night. Or maybe those are just excuses you’re trying to use in place of fatigue. If it really is fatigue - if you can’t keep running - then you’ll die.

Your body refuses to stand back up, stubbornly protesting your commands with numb, dull pains.

Just a few seconds. You need to rest for just a few seconds, and then you’re sure you’ll get back up. You’re a tough guy. You can do it. Stop worrying so much, damn it, catch a breath, and you’ll be fine.

...No, this won’t work. Not like this. You can’t rest for even a moment while thinking about that thing.

Think about something else. At least for a few seconds.

That’s about as much time as you’ve got.

You belch, throwing up on the already wet concrete. It feels absolutely disgusting, and you’re lying too close for comfort to what came out. Now, in addition to aching limbs, your throat is burning, and your stomach feels uncomfortably light. Every fiber of your being wishes that you haven’t done that.

But in a roundabout way, it helped. Though you are not back up to your feet yet, you feel as though you can do it with some effort.

You really are the toughest girl you know, Clarissa.

Ah, that was the name.

You hear a noise. You yelp pitifully, turning on your back and crawling away from the source of the sound.

A pale, blurry silhouette of a person; a young girl wearing a white nightgown. The monochrome image is tainted by specks of red trickling down her head and spilling onto her gown. The girl is smiling innocently, as if oblivious to her injuries and death. She reaches towards you with her hand, a gesture which, together with that happy smile, feels like it belongs to an all-forgiving, all-loving saint.

It is interrupted by a roar. An awful noise that feels as though it could crush a person just with its volume alone.

The monster is moving. The air seems to weigh down on you with every leap it makes, approaching ever closer. The girl must feel it as well, but she does not flinch.

Slowly, you manage to stand up. Your legs are still too weak, and you will drop at any moment. You need to run, yet you’re using too much strength to simply remain standing.

There is no more time left. The gray beast drops down, cracking the concrete underneath it with sheer size. Its urge to feed reaches a climax - there was no need to hold itself back anymore, so the hunger is let loose. The prey is caught and there is no escape. It is finally time to feast.

Each one of its claws is as thick as the girl’s head and longer than she is tall. With a modicum of effort, it impales the girl from behind. Her smile abruptly twists into an expression of agony, and she is lifted off the ground. The creature lowers its enormous, bone-encased jaws onto her, ravaging the helpless spirit with unconcealed, gleeful joy. Up until now, it behaved like an animal; the sadistic pleasure with which it desecrated the girl’s body felt like a derangement only a human being was capable of.

It is too late to save the girl. All that remains of her is blood and the tatters of her gown. It felt like the scene lasted an eternity, but it took the monster mere moments to finish feasting on her.

There isn’t the smallest chance that it was satisfied with just a small girl. Its mad gaze is once again directed at you.

You can probably use the thing in your hand as a weapon. You couldn’t spare a glance at it, but its shape vaguely resembles one.

...But can you even hurt this demon?

You grip the metallic thing with both hands, bellowing out a roar, and charge, removing the distance in just a few brief steps. You decide not to think at all as you do this, allowing fury and adrenaline to overtake you fully for the next few moments. Not because this may have been a stupid choice – no, on the contrary, you are certain that turning your back on this monster was the worst decision you could have made out of the two – but because if you were thinking rationally, you would never have mustered the courage to do this.

You perform a wide, sideways swing. It was a steel pipe that you attacked it with, you realize as it blurs past your eyes. There is blood on it, but it does not belong to the beast – no, the monster is unharmed. The pipe went cleanly through it like it would through a mirage.

In response, it sluggishly lifts its arm upwards, as if preparing to swat a fly. You leap forward, ducking in-between its legs. The concrete you stood on just a moment ago has been smashed into pebbles.

This was most likely the best decision you could have made, after all. You would have been killed by its tree-trunk sized arms if you tried to run away, and the monster wouldn’t even need to take a single step to do so.

But you won’t get back up to your feet in time, you realize. You can feel the masked monster’s movements; each motion causing something akin to a surge of air, so great was the power behind them. It blurs away with speed completely nonsensical when attributed to its size, creating distance from which its massive arms could easily reach you, and from which you are both too far and too close to avoid them.

Once again, you can feel it raise its arm.

...The strike does not come. Drops of blood join the falling rain.

You look behind you.

Between you and the masked monster stands a woman clad in black. The creature’s skull has been cut in two, blood pouring out of the massive gap like out of a fountain, though the sword she wields is unstained with red.

The young woman looks at you as if you were a curious oddity. She absent-mindedly mutters about ‘seeing’ things or something to that extent; you’re still too much of a mess mentally to focus properly. She behaves casually as if the monster behind her doesn’t exist, like she has so much confidence in its demise that the creature now being dead was akin to a law of nature.

But rather than confident, she is actually oblivious. The monster isn’t dead. The bone encasing its head becomes akin to clay in substance, and it is piecing itself together.

She doesn’t believe you, giving you the sort of pitying smirk you’d give a delirious person. As if to humor you, she does turn around, but it is too late.

The instance it returns to its life, the monster swings its clawed limb at the swordswoman, an action that seemed reflexive rather than entirely conscious in its abruptness.

“YOU FUCKING IDIOT!” You scream at the same time as she gets hit. She manages to place her sword in the way of the claws, which only really served to point out how pitifully thin and frail it seemed in comparison to the hunks of razor sharp bones that decorated the monster’s hands.

The woman is sent flying, colliding with the brick wall of an abandoned building, smashing through it in a cloud of dust.

Before the beast can return its attention back to you, the woman phases through the brick wall a floor higher than she was thrown into. She is unbelievably quick and agile, cutting through its mask in the midst of her fall.

As she lands on the ground, she does not go back to mocking you; this time, she locks her eyes on the creature, sword raised.

The woman is not unharmed – she is bleeding from the side, where the claws collided with her, but her firm stance does not hint at the pain she might be feeling.

As you suspected, the monster reforms, the vertical gash in its bone-covered head stitching itself together. It did not move during this time, and neither did the swordswoman, who intently observed the healing process. Perhaps this course of events is somehow abnormal even for whoever she might be.

The woman is not standing between you and the beast, and you are not protected by her back. It seems that you are not a concern, even though you are still dangerously close to the action. Before you think about somehow remedying that, the woman loudly clicks her tongue and jumps again - another ludicrous, inhuman leap.

>>37531046
The girl’s slash is about to cut through the monster’s skull again. Perhaps it is not trying to evade anymore – it doesn’t budge from its position. It was most likely a waste of effort with the difference in their speeds, either way. Instead, the demon attempts to trade strikes.

The victor of the exchange is fairly clear.

The monster remains in stasis, trying to revive itself after receiving another lethal wound.

Two halves of the sword wielder are sent into the air, her upper half drawing an arc, spraying liters of blood onto the ground below. Her lower half collides with the wall of an opposing building.

You thought about catching her, but you were caught off-guard by the conclusion of their trade. The girl loudly smacks against the concrete.

You run to her collapsed upper half, kneeling down. The girl is still alive. Still conscious.

“Are you okay?!” You nearly unintentionally find yourself yelling such a ridiculous question. The woman forces out a smirk in response.

“Shinigami... don’t die from just this much.” She answers. Her voice is barely audible.

“But... I can’t fight like this, either. Damn it, I thought I could get away with it one more time.” She longingly looks at the missing half of her body. The woman glances at her sword, which she miraculously managed to keep a hold of, and then grips your clothes with her free hand, pulling you in closer.

“You... can see it, right? And you can hear my voice, right? Look, I... I saved you, so in return, I want you to trust me. Even if it’s just this once, and for just a moment, I want you to... to trust me.” She whispers, pleading. Gripping her sword above the handle, she places the tip of the blade against your chest – right by your frantically beating heart. There is a weak, somewhat ironic smile on her face.

>”I... I trust you! Do it!”

“Ah, you’re making me feel bad,” She mutters sarcastically, melancholically. “You really shouldn’t have... I don't deserve it. I don’t actually think this will improve our chances by even a tiny bit. But thank you for letting me have a little selfish hope in my final moments.”

“You really like to run your mouth, huh? Just do it. The introductions come later.” You feel like she would laugh if she could. You’re sure that it would be directed at your strangely firm, yet also entirely unconvincing optimism. You don’t take offense for it.

The monster issues a furious roar as it returns to life once more. The girl looks like she wants to say something else.

You grab a hold of the cold blade, not allowing her a chance at more words. You help the girl thrust it into yourself, not entirely confident that she is strong enough to do it on her own.

The sword effortlessly cuts through your chest. There is no blood, no pain, and yet you still die. Yes, you unmistakably died.

And yet you stand up.

Tightly gripping the hilt of a sword in one hand, you turn to face the masked beast. In your hand is not the sword that has killed you; it is your own sword. The manifestation of your own power given the shape of a katana. Having never before held a sword in your entire life, you didn’t think it would be this light, and you didn’t imagine that it would feel this great to be holding onto it.

The fatigue is gone without a trace; you are fully invigorated. You are not at your ‘best’. Your best does not even come close to what you are now. You lower your core, and set off with a dash. The air does not rebel against your blinding speed; not the smallest sensation of friction is present.

Your vision of the spiritual is no longer blurry. It is clearer than your eyesight has ever been before. With nothing left to the imagination, the monster does not seem nearly as scary as before.

(1/2)
>>
>>37532128
One detail you did not pay attention to before is the massive hole in its chest. Now, you can’t help but grin, thinking that it will make cutting the bastard in half that much easier.

The tactics of that woman did not work – so you’ll be trying something else. Predictably enough, it goes for another swing of its massive limb. It should have been too quick for you to avoid.

Should have been.

But you are on its level now. Knowing what it is going to do is more than enough. You take to the air, jumping over the gorilla’s sweeping strike. You avoid the sequential blow by bouncing off the ground the moment your toes touch the asphalt, and it seems that you were fast enough to make it lose sight of you for just a moment.

Just a single, precious moment.

With a roar blowing your previous one completely out of the water, you charge once more, swinging vertically. Your sword isn’t long enough to cut the entirety of the monster’s limb, so you strike again in nearly the same breath. Like a felled tree, the forearm drops on the ground, blood spraying out of its stump like water out of a hose.

The creature stumbles back, as if shocked, screaming and wailing in agony. The bleeding shortly stops, the wound slowly mending itself at a snail’s pace. You’ll be able to pull off the same stunt three more times before it’s done, you’re sure.

It seems that as long as you don’t touch its mask, it’s vulnerable. The woman must have been some kind of retard not to attempt this.

You are about to dash back in to continue slicing it into pieces, but you realize that the high you were experiencing up to this point has worn off considerably. Your body no longer feels as weightless as it had just moments ago. It still feels great, better than ever, but far less so.

(2/3)
>>
>>37532159
The beast charges at you, but you evade its blow, nearly stumbling over the girl’s severed half in the process. Though you were dominating in this battle, you weren’t keeping track of your surroundings - didn't see the need to. You’ve been part of fights before, but not ones where you could cross a street in one jump, so it is no surprise that you are not experienced in these conditions.

For some reason, it seems hesitant to rush at you again. Now would be the perfect time to seize the initiative.

So it looks like we aren't the spiritual powerhouse Ichigo was in canon; but that should also mean (unless other plot chicanery is involved) that we didn't take all of (not?)Rukia's power. So what will be the reason she has to stay earth side and force us to substitute?
>>
>>37532226
You can kill it. You just need to get that thing away from the girl. She seems to be still alive, so that’s good, and you should do your best in keeping it that way.

There is a tense moment of silence, a break in the action. Perhaps the monster was considering its options, just like you were. You would be surprised if that was the case. You really didn’t take it for a tactician.

The beast bellows a primal roar, attempting to crush you with its arm. You jump to the side, towards the side where the girl is lying, grab her by her black kimono, and throw her away, further behind yourself, muttering a “sorry” which was most likely not heard over the beast’s wails.

You turn back towards the action, greeted with the sight of rapidly approaching claws from your side. You put your sword in their path, not having enough time for a proper dodge. Your feet remain on the ground as you take the blow, but you slide along the asphalt, soon slamming into a wall.

You are bleeding where the claws grazed you, and you are hurting where you collided with the wall. Both felt negligible. Other than pain, they do not cause anything else. The spirit attempts to stab you with the claws of its lone limb, but its thrust only collapses the cracked wall that was behind you a moment ago. While the arm briefly remains lodged in there, you slash. There is much more resistance than before, and you don’t manage to fit in a second strike.

You really are getting weaker.

(1/2)
>>
It attempts to grab you, and it succeeds. You get lucky – your sword unintentionally pierces the palm in which it tries to hold you and you move the lodged blade around, irritating it into immediately releasing you.

If that didn’t happen, you really don’t know how you’d get out of that thing’s grasp. You shift to its side, slashing the limb from another angle. It is finally severed, dropping uselessly on the ground.

You hop away from it, finding the need to catch a breath. You bluff by keeping a proud, firm posture, making it seem like you’re still at your peak.

The beast jumps away as well. It leaps upward, scaling a few stories with its jump, disappearing over the edge of a roof. It gets eerily quiet, as if it completely disappeared. You take this time to run up to the young woman and check how she’s doing. You keep your eyes on the rooftops, still expecting an attack.

“It’s not over. It won’t give up until you’re dead.” The woman confirms your suspicions with her weak whispers. “The only way to kill that thing is the mask. But...” She chuckles, though it sounded more like a wheeze. “You saw how that went.”

“So you’re saying it’s immortal? I’ve been cutting it up real nicely so far. Maybe you just need to get good?” You reply. You feel like you could go for another round or two. The bleeding doesn’t seem to be affecting you in any way, and you can get over the bruises. “Well, if it’s planning on licking its wounds over and over, I’ll just chase after it and cut it up.”

“It left to somewhere you can’t follow. It’ll return once it’s healed. Maybe in five.”

“Then how the fuck do you kill it?”

“The back of its head. Cut through the mask and skull.”

You want to protest again, but you realize that she is holding back on proper explanations not because she’s being a trying to be a witty bitch, but because she can barely even talk at all. You get what she repeated herself for.

“We’re retreating, then? That’s bullshit.”

“I need... A body. Do you know where one is?”

The question catches you off-guard.

“...How the hell would I know?”

“That’s alright... I’ll manage,” She mutters. “I’m not dead or dying, don’t worry. That monster will be looking for you, now, not me. I’ll be safe. I’m too weak to be found. And you, as long as you... As long as you stay human, it won’t find you. Just... enter your body, and you’ll be safe. But I just need... rest.”

“What about a body from a morgue? Wouldn’t that do? We can probably get that. It’s weird, but...”

“No... Too cold... Let me sleep... I'm... Kimiko."

"...Clarissa."

Eh, an hour between updates isn't to bad.
>>
OP is slow. But thats ok because OP's posts are long. An hour is fast for 3 part segments.

You easily lift the torso up on your shoulder.

...Legs sure weigh a lot, don’t they? You’ve never really realized that up until now, when you’re carrying something without them. But... that doesn’t matter. You made up your mind. This girl was right – she saved your life, and you should do what you can to help her in return. You didn’t trust her enough to just leave her lying there, for any monster to come around and eat her.

You’ve seen what these things do to helpless people. You don’t really want to see it again if you can help it. And... you were helping it right now.

...

Nobody can see you or hear you. You really did turn into a spirit. That’s good, because there probably isn’t a single person in this town who wouldn’t be shocked at this scene. The streets were mostly empty, but Kimiko was making a noticeable trail with her blood...

Hopefully, this isn’t visible to normal people. Otherwise, things will get really bad, especially if someone tracked it.

You make a short trip through town at a jog that in its speed is comparable to what your sprint used to be just a little while ago. The door to the building is open, so you don’t need to go around phasing through walls. You’re not sure how to do that, and if you can at all.

Even though you’re just a door away from your destination, you’re still hesitant. No, you are even more hesitant now than before. You try the doorknob, and the door easily opens.

...Well, why wouldn’t it do that? Who would close it?

The inside of the flat is dark, but it is luxuriously spacious. It is only a step above total darkness, thanks to the dim light from the city’s street lamps pouring through closed curtains.

There is a person lying on the ground, face hidden under long black hair.

You kneel near it, placing Kimiko down. She sinks into the body. It begins to twitch lightly. You stand up and step away, trying to keep your breathing steady. You managed to stain your hand with blood in the process but... that’s not the problem.

The person, the girl... stands up. Slowly, while groaning.

“Ah, my head is splitting in two...” She whines. The girl has a cutesy, childish voice. She looks at you, and perhaps only because it is dark that you do not need to immediately throw up the moment you accidentally meet her eyes. “...Who am I?”

You shouldn’t have done this. It’s far more disturbing than you thought it would be. You don’t answer her question. You simply can’t.

“...Let’s go to my home. We... I need some rest.”

Did...
Did we just place her in a still living body? Wouldn't that kick the other soul out or something?

I'd like to end the thread here. It's getting pretty late for me.

If you have any questions before I go, please ask them, I'll be happy to try and answer as well as I can.

You can't do that, only one soul can occupy a body at a time.
