You have to give it to Tahenohan: her ointment actually works. It took a good deal of time to gather the "correct" ingredients and produce it, but fortunately the two arachne are pretty fast when it comes to wandering the jungle, an advantage that comes from having eight legs, each of them longer than you are tall.

The half-elf's concoction has a strange, pungent smell that you can't quite put your finger on and it stings a little after a while, but despite that you find out you can now stand without feeling like some kind of ogre with very sharp fingernails is trying to crush your thighs. The irregular, constant stinging is still there, but it's absolutely bearable compared to what you felt before.

According to Arianna there's not enough daytime left to reach Susanna before nightfall, which is quite telling of how long it took for Tahenohan to produce a remedy for both of you; alchemy (or does this count as pharmacy?) is really no easy deal it would seem, though by her own admission it's not her field of expertise.

On the bright side, this gave Bryld time to work on her notes for the map, and by confronting with Leiana she produced some rather nice-looking sketches with a few landmarks that you didn't quite pay attention to during your trip, probably distracted by the scenery in general or excessively focused on the most visible ones, such as the lake. You've also noticed that Arianna's cave is quite cozy although very humid, and the stream that passes through before continuing its underground course consists of fresh, drinkable and naturally carbonated water.

Arianna isn't sure whether this means there's sulphurous springs or deposits or whatever nearby, she seems to be rather ignorant of geology in general. Not that anyone else in your party isn't...

Still, you're back on your two legs. Finally.

You haven't forgotten about your original task, you swear, and you're going to demonstrate that to yourself by checking Bryld's progress with her cartography shenanigans.

From what you can see from her notes, which are mostly a collection of sketches of both local areas and landmarks, you can see that you've made considerable progress by travelling on spiderback, as you already suspected, comparable to what you would have if you travelled on horseback across plains. The point being, of course, that you didn't cross open plains but rather a tropical jungle, later in a hill area no less, and getting closer and closer to a mountain range. You wonder if this is the reason for which knights and some nobility, especially Prontera's, keeps preferring to ride PecoPecos instead, they're probably less likely to break a leg in such a place.

Bryld is also, without doubt, rather gifted with a pencil: her sketches of large trees, isolated hills and other peculiar landmarks (some of which include a groove that looks like it would be filled with mushrooms if this was the right season) show that she has a somewhat rough trait but that easily captures the essential details and makes the final product easy to look and understand. Both of which must be quite indispensable qualities to a cartographer.

"How's the map coming?", you ask, just to strike up a conversation.

"Well, if we wanted to show everyone where the arachne live, I'm confident I could", she comments with a hint of humility and a touch of doubt on top, "I could even direct them to this Susanna, I guess. Or to the lake, which would actually be more useful".

"Think we should explore the jungle more?".

"No map can help you cross a thick forest", Bryld notes, "Let alone a jungle. No, we just need to find more landmarks. As many as possible, actually".

"Why don't we go look for a few landmarks ourselves?", you suggest to your cartographer, your tail swinging suavely behind you as you smile.

"Mh... I don't know", Bryld frowns lightly, very focused on her sketches, "It's the first day I have the chance to actually sketch a bit and make order amongst my notes. This is going to be rather challenging when we get back".

"I don't think you need to get the whole Shadow Marches perfectly in the first trip", you don't actually know how cartography works, but it seems unreasonable to expect that much out of a small party of three people. Exploration expeditions usually take a lot more than that, after all, don't they?

"No, no of course not. We'll make the first batch of maps, but they're still important because they'll be the one and only reference most people will have about anything for several years", while conscious about her role and expectations, Bryld still takes herself and her own work quite seriously, her eyes locked on the paper and her pencil still at work. Your non-existent powers of telepathy also tell you that she's so wishing she had a table right now.

"So why not take a walk outside? We arrived at night and barely seen the surroundings", you remind her, "And Tahenohan said the ointment works best if you move". Of course she meant light movement, just some lazy walking around the house, but still.

Bryld doesn't look so sure, you can see in her eyes that if it depended on her she'd just stay there and keep drawing, but then again she does have the look of someone who can easily and without guilt spend the whole day in slippers and nightgown and keep her nose buried in paper of some kind. "I don't know... We don't have much daytime left...".

"Not enough to travel, but enough for a walk", you insist with a charming smile.

Bryld is forced to sigh, "Alright, alright... I'll come with you".

"We're not going to go far", you assure Bryld, you've known her for long enough and bonded a bit, so you're aware that she's the sort of person that prefers to stay home and coming here to this expedition required a huge amount of courage from her already, so you don't feel like pushing her. Not right now at least.

"It's okay, I trust you not to get us lost", she assures you with charming sincerity as she puts her sketches and drawing materials back in her pack. After all, if you're not going to go on spiderback much in the following days, she'll have time to sketch as well. You do notice she still keeps one pencil and a smaller notebook with her, on which she sketched several things already: mostly plants, fungi and small animals.

You inform Tahenohan you'll be out for a walk and she waves you off with a manic grin, especially as she suggests you take it easy and think of each other's thighs. Arianna and Leiana are out gathering supplies and foraging, with the former insisting it's necessary because the latter needs to produce silk and spin it for her, for reasons you're not quite sure of.

Outside, the air is less humid but it's still quite hot, as expected. Actually, it's a lot hotter: the inside of the cave, being underground and padded with a thick layer of earth from the outside, is actually quite cooler than the outside, and the sudden impact with the late afternoon sun is still enough to make you feel its heat against your skin, even despite the jungle canopy. Which, admittedly, isn't too thick in this specific area.

"I wonder how come the water is carbonated from the spring", Bryld has been asking about this even since she tasted it. You have to admit you didn't expect it either, "Maybe the mountain range contains a volcano?".

>"I don't know, wouldn't the arachne have told us? It seems important".

Is it too soon after the beach episode for the hot spring episode?
>>
"I think the arachne would have told us if there was an active volcano nearby", you frown as you look at the mountain range. Even from the jungle, you can see it well enough: you're pretty close, close enough that it's no longer just decoration on the distant horizon but rather a very real and very huge thing in your way should you decide to continue Eastwards, "It's a pretty important piece of information".

"I don't know if monsters even have recorded history", Bryld's expression is hard to decipher in this moment, "Maybe it hasn't erupted in a long while and nobody remembers about it".

"Isn't an underground hot spring more credible at this point?".

"It probably is. I don't know, I'm just guessing".

"Maybe a geologist could give us an answer instead of just having to guess everything ourselves", you smile as you suggest that, walking leisurely at a slow pace as you feel your thighs get a little better, the stinging subsiding a little as the walk continues. Tall and thick trees covered in moss and climbing vegetation of all sorts surround you, but leaving enough room between each other to let an arachne through, even though some parts must be too dense for them to even consider passing.

Then again, Arianna claimed she just climbs them when she needs to get past the thicker areas and walks around the canopy, and you have little doubt she can actually do that.

"I don't know any geologist", Bryld admits, "But the architect that was building the town where the military expedition is should be able to answer us".

"Why? Is geology that important to architecture?".

"She's a dwarf".

Oh. Well, that explains it, you suppose that to a dwarf, just a cursory look at the ground would be enough to discern what's beneath, including hot springs eventually, though you suspect they'd be a lot more interested in minerals.

"Do you think we have enough material for a first map? Do you need more landmarks? Tell me a bit how it works", you can't help her if you don't know what she needs, and you must give her all she needs if you want to get any money from your Exploration Charter.

"Mh... How to put it... It depends on how detailed the map needs to be", Bryld explains, "Usually, you only need the major landmarks and the positions of all towns and settlements. If it's a wilderness, like it is, we don't have to worry about precise measurements, not with the first maps at least. The new marquise will be in charge of building roads and measuring the distance between the settlements, putting milestones along the way, and from that point on we will be able to make more precise maps that are actually to scale and will appropriately represent distances and positions".

"That sounds like a very long-term project", and a lot of work, too.

"It is. Maps make sure you know where you are and that you don't get lost. Precise distances aren't important here in the wilderness, I can't draw and represent every single tree, every hill, every hole, every depression and cave or rock I see. That's why landmarks are important: as long as I get their position and distances right, the people using my maps won't get lost and will survive a trek in the jungle", she looks rather proud at the idea of this hypothetical someone being able to get somewhere thanks to her.

"Speaking of which, how are your thighs?", she seems to be walking without a problem, and she too looks down at her own legs as if to make sure she still has them.

"They're fine. Tahenohan's ointment really is something. It stings a bit, though".

"Do you need a massage?", you suggest, trying to not make any weird smiles.

"I'll just walk a bit, thank you, it seems to be working", she looks thankful about that.

"What do you think of Tahenohan?", you ask while you're on the topic of thighs.

It takes Bryld a while before she comes up with an answer, and her expression is mildly confused, "I... Think I'm starting to understand her. Well, I'll probably change my mind as soon as I talk to her again, but... It shows that she's only half of an elf, even though she's certainly an oddball there are other times when she speaks more sense than you would expect of her".

"And she's useful to have around", you add.

"We can agree on that", Bryld comments as she pats her own thighs, "You know what? For being a necromancer I still haven't seen her... Do anything".

"What do you mean?", you ask even though you know what she means.

"You know, the usual stuff. Raising the dead, leading armies of skeletons... Doesn't she like skeletons a lot?".

"I think she lacks the source material to work with", not that you're any eager to find corpses, especially not the human sort. "And... What do you think of me?".

"You know what I think of you", she smiles, "You're kind, supportive, you're a good listener and a good talker too when you put your mind to it", her smile widens a little as she looks up at you, "And you like to hear people talk about you".

"What?".

"Oh don't hide it", and she nudges you, "You like being at the centre of attention, don't you? N-not that it's anything bad, I mean... I tend to fade in the background", her bunny ears twitch oddly. It's not like when they tense or turn because of a sound, it's a little different, and they bend and droop a little more than usual, "But you... You're the sort that draws attention, and you look like you enjoy it".

Say what you will about Bryld, but despite being shy and everything she can be quite observant of other people.

"Do you think I stand out too much?", you wonder.

"No", she shakes her head, vigorously so, "No no, really, you're fine, you're meant to stand out, I mean- i-it's hard for you not to, I-I mean...", she flushes a little and sighs, trying to hide her own face with her hair, "D-don't take this the wrong way, I'm not good at talking with people".

"It's okay, it's okay", you reassure her, and can't help but chuckle at how quickly she reverts to her usual shy self, even right after you were starting to think she opened up and became a lot more confident thanks to your bonding and hardships you've been through together, "Would you like to stand out more yourself?".

"No no no no, Iria spare me from that", she's even more vehement about that, "I'm fine where I am, really, I-I really am".

Seeing her state and the way she keeps fidgeting with her hair and trying to hide her face you guess it's better to not continue down this line of conversation for now. You'll have time to tease her later if you want to, "Speaking of opinions, what do you make of Arianna?".

She doesn't answer immediately, weighing her words carefully, but with the different kind of expression and attention than she used when she was talking about you, "I think she's very eager to start a family, and it's not just beause of her admittedly tragic backstory and the fact her species need to reproduce because there's just three of them left".

"What do you mean?".

She pauses, looking for the right words, "Have you ever met those kind of women that just... Really want to have children? Because they're, like... They have a natural call, and maybe even talent, for raising them and just want to have a large family? Arianna gives me that vibe. She's just so naturally maternal", Bryld then looks up at you, "You mentioned you'd like to have some, by the way...".

"I did mention that", you admit, "But as I said it's really a matter of who you make them with. I would like to secure a good partner first".

Bryld nods in agreement, "Yes, that's very important, that's what I thought too...", she then chuckles, "I'm sorry, it's just that... It's quite... I don't know, romantic coming from you".

You give her an inquisitive look, and she blushes, though with a smile, "I-I'm sorry, like I said I'm not e-experienced, so... Y-you're the expert, and Tahenohan even more so, s-so... I take it you both know how to have... F-fun... In bed", she fidgets idly with her fingers, discovering a sudden interest in the vegetation and the tall, flowery bushes that line the natural trail you're walking through right now and staring intently at that instead of you, "But... Well...".

"Children are a different matter. They're a big responsibility and a large drain on attention, and resources too", you admit you're speaking from experience here, not for having children yourself of course but being raised as an orphan and seeing how your caretakers were constantly busy working and getting offerings to keep you fed and clothed, not to mention the time they spent giving all the children basic schooling... Later in life, you looked back at those times and realized that they were pretty much dedicating all their lives to that.

Granted, they took care of dozens of children at a time when school was involved, and then had you and a few others at home when they were done with that. It's definitely a time-consuming endeavour to say the least. "I'm going to need a stable relationship, as well as a home and income, before I start thinking of having children".

Bryld nods, and remains silent for a while, keeping to her own thoughts.

"Hypothetically speaking...", she then suddenly wonders, "Would... Would... er...", she gulps, "Would Tahenohan do?".

Well that is an odd question, she dropped it all of a sudden and she's posing it strangely. It's kind of... Not very Bryld-like, and even though she's steaming with shame and shyness, she's forcing herself to keep her eyes fixed on you, watching your every move and impatiently waiting for your answer.

And you get the feeling you should weigh your words carefully.

"She could be", you admit as if you never actually thought about that before, "But it depends on her. I mean, she did mention she has a certain wanderlust in her", you also can't help but clearly recall the moment when she said she'd stick around if you somehow got her pregnant, especially her simple tone, as if it would be no big deal. You don't think Tahenohan is like Arianna, whom you suspect would be equally chill about the prospect of having children from anyone, you included, you guess it's either cultural or racial, with no way to be sure.

Bryld gives an approving nod, but keeps staring at you, as if expecting something else. Having no real idea what she might be thinking, you decide to crack a smile and defuse the situation by not taking it too seriously, "Why? Are you going to be jealous?".

"N-no!", she blushes fervently to a deep red, but it passes as quickly as it came, "I was just... I was just wondering". Still, she looks constantly distracted, as if there's something on her mind that she can't quite get off. It's not unusual to see her being lost in thought, and it happens even more often when she's sitting still or doing something related to drawing or writing, but nonetheless there's something special about this particular situation.

"You've been spending a bit of time with Tahenohan lately, haven't you?", not immediately before, like when you were riding Leiana, but before that? She did. And you suggested it too. Bryld nods in confirmation.

You actually know something she doesn't, which makes it fair because Bryld knows something you don't... And there's always Tahenohan in the middle. Well, that's to be expected with a half-elf around, you can't have things just go straight.

And that sounded like a pun of sorts.

"Are the two of you bonding well?", you wonder, testing the waters, "You do seem to be getting along nicely".

"We are, she's fun to be around once you realize she's harmless, even if weird", she makes a small smile, and you can't help but notice her cheeks are still rather red, "I got to meet and know some interesting people thanks to you, if you didn't drag me out in the wilderness I'd probably still be copying maps in some kind of small room for a meagre pay".

"Do you like her?".

"Yes!", she answers with a honest smile, then instantly loses it and blushes, "N-not that way! I-I-I didn't mean t-to s-s-suggest that I... W... W-we're both girls!". And she looks away, most likely because she knows perfectly well that that's no excuse; besides, after having been in the company of captain Agnes, even the most naive of people will understand that to some people "we're both girls" becomes a green light rather than something that should make you pause.

"I wasn't suggesting that", you lie, but it's a good moment to tie in with the actual question, "Did she tell you anything weird? You're acting a bit strange".

"N-nothing. N-n-nothing at all", she lies as well, and you like to think she's a worse liar than you are. Tahenohan clearly must have told her something already, and you know what her final goal is. You wonder if this is the part where you should intervene and help her out or just wait until the necromancer tells you what to do.

Seems like it's time to make a call.

>Try and suggest it's okay to "experiment" with girls.

we can address the other options later, we need to be subtle and ease bunnybutt into this like our cock into her bunnybutt

Bueno. Everything seems like a good thing and bad thing as well to say. Fuck.

But ok, seriously, if only one can be picked, then:
>>Try and suggest she doesn't have to choose just one partner
it's a terrible, but impossible to resist option.

You stare at Bryld for a while, watching as she occasionally glances back at you, as if wanting to tell you something but not quite mustering the courage to. Once you're satisfied with keeping her in shy mode, you give her a friendly smile, "Don't overthink".

"Huh?".

"Don't overthink", you repeat, "Knowing Tahenohan and you both, you've been talking about relationships, this much is obvious".

She blushes again, "I-is it that obvious?".

"You had no experiences yet, she's had plenty", real plenty if half of what she says is true, "She's a lot more comfortable around certain topics than you are, that's just normal. You don't have to feel inadequate and it's okay to be confused".

"I... I suppose you're right", she seems to be feeling a little better, more at peace with her own thoughts even with just that.

"I've been very confused myself, and you can probably guess why", you chuckle, but you don't plan in telling the stories of your puberty. Besides, they might be counter-productive at this point in time, "I don't know what you're thinking, but... Keep this in mind: don't let your first experience get in the way of the rest of your life. It's fine to experiment, it's fine to go with the flow, you don't have to be bound to a partner you don't want to be bound and you don't have to feel like you have to pick only one gender to stay with".

She doesn't say anything, but she nods, her bunny ears bent midway, not quite drooping but not quite upright either.

"What I found to be the most important thing, in my experience", you continue, "Is that all it takes is to like each other and agree on what to do. And of course be careful about unwanted pregnancies, but, well, that's a given", you chuckle, and she does too, "So again, don't overthink. Some things you just have to feel".

Bryld nods again, a light smile on her lips, "Thanks".

>"So, what did she tell you?".
>"So, who do you like?".
>"Let's go back for now".

You can't help but feel proud when you look at Bryld. Even if you know you're just setting her up for a threesome because Tahenohan decided she needs to have her virginity taken spectacularly (and you were on board with that) you can't help but also feel that she's appreciating your company and the bonding experience as a whole, not to mention the chance to perform her work in an alien, unfamiliar and yet exciting environment.

You also can't help but ruffle her hair as she turns, eliciting a surprised yelp before she relaxes and pouts at you, "Don't just suddenly touch my head! My ears are very sensitive you know".

"Oh I know", you confirm with a smile as you start rubbing their bases with both hands. You can feel the shiver running down her spine and then coming back up just from the vibrations her ears transmit to your fingertips, it's almost like you've felt that shiver yourself. She also lets a small, acute moan slip from her lips and then half-turns to stare at you with what you guess is supposed to be an angry face but really it just looks like her eyes are watery.

"Don't overthink. Some things you just have to feel. And don't refuse free cuddles, they're rarer than you might think", you smile at her as you persist in the ear rubbing. After the initial shock, Bryld does manage to relax a bit, clear sign that she yelped just out of surprise. Probably the same reason for which you should never just caress somebody's tail, and as a tail owner you know perfectly well just what kind of shiver an unexpected contact brings you.

Still, you have to give up on continuing for long as you can't rub her ears while you walk. Of course, you can just pat her head as you walk, something against which she doesn't put much resistance.

"We should head to Susanna tomorrow", she says as you walk back, the stinging in your thighs practically forgotten by now, "That's a landmark I can't miss".

You nod, and keep patting her head. Tomorrow, your journey continues.

It's an edit of a panel from Saki, making the panel mildly more lewd than the usual fare.
>>
>>37565905
I knew it was Saki, but I thought it was a doujin rather than an edit.
Oh well.
>>
Aw man, I missed everything but the first post because I ended up crashing. Oh well, it's great to see you running, and it's great to see more bunnybutt!
