I really hate to nitpick, I really do, but this is wrong. The Crusades were never about killing all Moslems, only making the Holy Land safe for Christians to live in. The Siege of Jerusalem was simply standard procedure in that time: refuse to surrender and there will be no quarter. When the Crusader States got going, they actually treated the Moslem populace quite fairly. You decide to start from the beginning, mostly out of curiosity. You are pleasantly surprised at how much you learn. Your comrades shout and cheer and bellow but you do not hear them, only an ever present ringing in your ears. the wall collapses, the gate caves in, your men seige the city. You charge in with them, mace held high. You swing down, feeling heathen skulls pop like bubbles in a roaring rapid. You slay your way into a square, coated in blood and sweat and offal. A robbed man stands in the center, you cannot see his face, shrouded by a hood and shadow. You see his eyes, light by the fires of hell, impossibly green, or red or yellow. His chest rips asunder, as if cleaved in twain by the swing of a greatsword.
Black shadow drips from his wound, black vapours steam from the cavity. Then condense. Coalesce. A black figure born of smoke and shadow towers above you and your men, blacker than sin, with those eyes of no discernable colour but brighter and hotter than the fires of hell. It looses a mournful cry as it swings at your men, ebon fog shredding them to thin strips, like a million razors. The demon turns to you, performs that joyless bellow and begins to make its way toward you.
