You step up to the counter, picking up the spear carefully and inspecting the prongs. You're looking for any signs that runes might have been carved on the surface, but you don't see anything immediately obvious. If what the old man says is true, you're definitely interested in acquiring such a powerful artifact. If for nothing besides your wish to study it.

Setting the spear down, you lean over the counter to get a look at the armor. You wouldn't ask the old man to lift the stuff, it must weight a ton. You'd really been shopping for Chrys, but if this armor is indeed merely a heavier version of your warlock armor, you can't deny your own interest. It would probably kill Chrys if she tried to wear it anyway. Then again, it might kill you as well. You'd still like to have it, if only so you can have a goal to strive for.

You reach down to poke and prod at the materials the armor is made out of. It feels much the same as the material your Warlock Armor is constructed of, although much thicker. There's also far more metal strapped onto it in various places. You note with some curiosity that instead of a helmet carved to resemble the enraged face of Surya, the helmet is rather plane. It has two rows of vertical slits but other than that little decoration.

“I'm interested in both, but how much are you asking? These artifacts seem a step above what you've already showed me.”

The old man rubs his hands together excitedly. “Well, oh valued customer. I ask but the meager sum of three thousand silver for the spear. A bargain, considering its capabilities. As for the armor... well, I'm afraid it's rather more expensive. Six thousand silver and it could be yours, if you have the coin that is.”

Yeesh, six thousand silver is a lot to spend on armor you won't be able to wear for quite some time. Coupled with the spear, that's more than three fourths of your remaining wealth. You'd be down to a measly twenty-six hundred silver. Of course you could likely negotiate the price down to some degree but even if you cut the price in half, a task you doubt is possible, that's still a significant chunk of your wealth down the drain.

I fear that people will want to use the spear, which we shouldn't, but the enchantment knowledge possibilities is just too good to pass up.
Armor is way too expensive.
It looks cool and all, but not worth it.
Maybe we could stop a bit early with the spear haggling in return for being allowed to investigate the armor a bit? We promise to buy for it if we damage it, of course.
I was about to ask you for an ETA, you're just in time Soma.
Is it time to git gud this thread and make a language finally?

Armor is way too expensive.

the armor is the upgraded version of the one the varista used. it will not be usefull soon, but it's clearly a top tier item.
>>
>>37704463
>>You'll buy the spear! Haggle.
>>
>>37704463
Whoa, that's expensive. I still think I want both. One possibility would be to only buy the spear now, then hope we get more money in the Pa'vala, then buy the armor after we return. Since we can't wear it anyway right now. I don't think anybody would buy it in the meantime, only a few very rich people would be able to and they probably a) don't need it and b) don't know where to get it if they do.
>>
>>37704463
>You'll buy the spear! Haggle.
>>
>>37704463
See, if we hadn't split our wealth equally for some retarded reason, we could buy this without becoming a pleb (relatively) poorfag.
>>37704575
It's not like we have even been using any functions of our present armor anyway.
you know as well as I do that we will never even find out everything about the armor, much less use it in any significant way except for its passive effects and what our Warlock armour already gives us.
It could be better to just use our Eulidean armor and make some enchanted shit to wear under it that give us the special shit we might need.
>>
>>37704629
We already found out what the warlock Armour does.
>>
>>37704682
I'm talking about the expensive armor.
And the only reason we DID find out everything(which isn't actually certainly everything) was that Varvar had notes on it, by ourselves we never would have experimented with it, since /tg/ can't stay dedicated to a single task at a time in this quest.

We don't actually know if it's a Surya priest armor, to be fair, just that it was found in a temple.
I also kind of doubt that one of those would be significantly different from a normal one, except for a bit of specialization and enhanced Fire functions.
>>37704786
I assume you mean this refers to those aiming to buy the Armor? Because although the spear is not useful in combat, since we don't want to completely destroy our enemies in cruel ways, but I'm curious to see if we could find out some cool runes from it. Also if the "soul" prong could maybe kill spirits.

He thought that the warlock armor kills you.
The only problem with the warlock armor is that you need a "big" vys pool.
So the upgraded warlock armor just needs more vys and it shouldn't be an issue.
I am guessing once we hit 50 vys the warlock armor shouldn't give us much of a problem.
now the upgraded warlock armor... im seeing that as a long term armor. when we have 60-70+ vys and it shouldn't be much of a strain.

Except the passives may ALL be upgraded. Which is why this would be a stronger warlock armor.
SO it be a great addition long run.

>>
Consider this, among worried about our wealth.
We already have considerable amounts of money tied up in assets. Investments and real estate. We are about to embark upon an incredibly dangerous journey, where money will be useless and sweet gear will mean everything. There is no reason to not get the absolute best stuff we can.

Additionally, this will hopefully motivate us to hit more hid, so we can wear the armor.

No, people in this quest being stupid and irresponsible has stopped surprising me a long time ago.

Also the whole having money thing, kind of important when we're offered something else we want to buy and can actually use, or run into Sadik and want to buy new brooches and his latest wares.

i mean both, you guys are just way too short sighted and aren't jewing hard enough, you know what a real zionist jew would do in our situation?
just for example we could start up a logging company at the edge of the forest with our funds and sell it cheap to our father which would in turn give our family the biggest navy and we could set it up by the ocean as well and make a water purification facility with runes and start a farm and then grow poppies and food that we sell cheaply to our father our we could just set up a company that does that as well, wouldn't be that hard and we are capable of handling any troubles that occur. you guys don't want to play trader quest? delegate the business to our father or someone else we trust enough to do it.
i know this is an adventuring quest but it could be a fun pet project. plus it would have to be done after getting rid of the demon god in our head and knowing Soma we'll probably get dragged in on a couple of side quests again. and during the sut up of the business we could just timeskip and during that timeskip focus on metal

I don't mean to be condescending or insulting, but I doubt this playerbase is capable of such large projects, especially ones involving economy.
If the players were willing to really jew it up, we would grind metas, effects, techniques, GM as many elements as posisble, and grind runes before we do anything big, then learn everything SK has to teach us, and make some incredible shit, develop more techniques, and THEN start playing the Jew of Wall Street.

Shit we can sell:
Ornate Dagger (Does this do anything?)
Blowgun - Never used this.
A Treatise on Advanced Water Magic by Master Yusef - Finished
Abusing Metaphysics - Finished
Metamagic Instructions: Ranged - Finished
13x Magic Lanterns (I'd rather use these to decorate the estate though.)
11x Monster Venom Glands (We can save a few for Mortia though)
3x Technician's Armor (Maybe save one to study.)
Clavichord
Brass Horn
3x SMGs [146 shots remaining]
2x Shotgun [5 shots remaining]
1x Oversized Handgun [5 shots remaining]
1x Needlegun

Stuff to study and then sell:
Enchanted Gauntlet (Might be useful though)
Shockwave Sword (Unless you guys want to go back to using it)
Compact Sword (We never used this, but we could study elaudian metal through it.
Hiacian Sabre
1x Optio Armor

Stuff I'm not sure if we opened:
4x Hazardous Materials Shipments
3x Bandit's Personal Chest
Ornate Lockbox

You do remember we're heading to Khemdi first while possibly stopping by Anthus where we might want to buy that vys scroll we were talking about, or something else in the countless stores that litter those places.
We might run into Sadik on the road as well.
Besides, there are a few cities in the Pavala as well as travelers who could take our money.

anyone know a trader quest or a quest with players smart enough to jew big time?
>>
So lads, I've found another interesting bit of information while cataloguing the archive.

>>32553303
Airship Acquisition: Airships are possible and have been used in the past, though it would be more feasible to salvage one than try to build one solo or with your small party. You'd need to hire architects, engineers, other vatis, and purchase the raw materials. It would be a massive undertaking more suitable for a guild/corporation/mercenary band/whatever than a party of adventurers.

We know the location of the main Rhynian research headquarters. What say we head on over there and get us a mobile flying fortress? Or at least, information for one of their docks? That would make the Pavala expedition much more easy.
>>
Alright more stuff to add to the pile of things we'll never use.
>>
>>37705285
>literally less than an hour of run time

>>
>>37705443
Usually he's gone for about four hours Anon. Three for class, and one to get set up and churn out the next update. You've plenty of time to snooze.
>>
>>37705333
I could part with one Technician's armor.
Dagger, blowgun and such aren't worth much. SMG and Shotgun are from namek and so they are unique, we won't sell them. And how do you dare selling our Shockwave Sword, it's our extended vys pool!

Even after haggling the price of the armor and trident down, the merchant will be one of the richest men in the country.

>>37705386
Oh, you're right, the vys scroll might cost a few hundred gold. We'll probably have to ask our friends for money, they will want to learn it too, after all.

>>37705443

>>

Very descriptive Anon. You've elucidated profoundly the great number of people who'd like to murder us for the fortress. I'm so glad you took the time to write such an all-encompassing and well thought out list. Then I guess we better fly *around* the major population centers. It's not that terribly hard. Hell, we could just go up and over. It's a fucking Airship.

We brought a single one to the surface, our son, who we will raise to be a cool dragon, and he will stay within our party.

Actually, according to Fulvia, they're a simple form of void generator.

>>32147046
Void Generator Basics: Chryssa buts in with. {What is a Void Generator?} Fulvia responds after a brief pause. {I'm not actually sure why it's called that. I simply know that as material approaches a Void Generator it is destroyed and its vys harnessed, which is then harnessed before it can collapse into the generator. It makes them extremely dangerous to work with. The lanterns you've been hoarding are actually a form of minor Void Generator.}

>>37705642
They won't bloody know. The facility is in the middle of bumfuck nowhere embedded in the Earth. Sadik can't read our minds, the Elven Warlord doesn't even know we exist, and Kadir is really bloody busy killing bitchqueen. Your concerns are totally warrantless.
>>
>>37705558
It may be that but if you think back to the previous threads you'll remember what kind of people are here, i'm sorry but if you want any in depth planning you'll have to find another quest

How do you suppose actually making use of a flying fortress without anyone noticing?
>>
>>37705460
>SMG and Shotgun are from namek and so they are unique, we won't sell them
Fair enough.
>And how do you dare selling our Shockwave Sword, it's our extended vys pool!
We haven't used it for that purpose in months irl.
>Even after haggling the price of the armor and trident down, the merchant will be one of the richest men in the country.
He still has to restock.

Actually, if we take the archeotta with us, we probably won't have to buy it.
>>
>>37705704
That's literally the silliest argument against a proposed plan of general action I've ever heard. We know the very real dangers of a TPK. Soma has never bullshitted us before. We know that as we are, we are woefully underequipped. And we know that Air superiority is a massive advantage based on past questions. As such, making it a mission to explore the facility for Airship locations or an actual Airship is a perfectly reasonable course of action.
>>
>>37705719
It's a flying ship that can go upwards where there's no plant-life for detection or Vatis to sense vys expenditures or dragons to detect life or guards to inform the government or bandits to prey upon travelers or giant worms to hear our footsteps and consume us alive?
>>
>>37705754
And how do you suppose we'll use it for anything? Just sit up there forever? Or do you want to go to a place hundreds of miles away from civilization to land so we don't get noticed?
>>
>>37705732
Hey man i'm on board but i don't expect it to happen/work

>All these anons freaking out about introducing guns
I'm not the guy suggesting selling the guns, but you do know that there is a tech city that has old style guns(i believe they have muskets), and than there is SK, who knows how to build them.
I do think we need to be careful to who we give them to/sell them if its decided to sell the weapons.
>>
>>37705790
You're making it sound like we're going to live in an airship forever. This argument has no application when the goal for airship acquisition is solely for the Pa-valan venture. Here's how it's going to play out:

We raid the facility after resting in El-Amin to git gud and regenerate sanity.

Once we have an Airship, we use it to explore the Pa-vala to our hearts content.

We dock the ship back in the facility or dock we found it in and proceed with our lives.

Your chain of logic proceeds only if you assume that we're going to hold onto the airship at all costs. That was never part of my plan nor was it mentioned. It's something that you conjured completely out of thing air and has absolutely no basis in reality.
>>
>>37705842
Better to hold on to them until SK starts manufacturing them but feel free to do something that might fuck us up the ass in the end it wouldn't be the first time

Isn't trying to build a flying ship a little to metagaming? I mean sure we saw them and got inside a helicopter or gunship back in the other world but "we" don't known the basics requirements for flight and for all we know its advance technology that can't be easy reproduce.

>in months irl.
>Months, while Mik's started this journey 2 months ago at most
We used the sword on the corrupted IA back in the mines didn't we? that
>>
>>37705926
Again, we know in character that

And here's our in character knowledge of the research facility:

>>31765240
Central Research Station: Then you could also try diving more ruins, unfortunately this one's library was mostly empty but maybe you'll luck out. There's also that encoded missive you found in the commander's office. Some sort of 'central command' facility would probably have way more good stuff than some research station in the boonies.

I'd say this is much more in character than my earlier, "build a flightsuit in a cave, with a box of scraps!" plan.
>>
>>37705937
Do you not know what irl means?

>>37705926
Right now I'm thinking instead of what those other anons are babbling about, we just ask SK about a flying vehicle, ask him what it would require, suggest the design to Mik's father, and have the guy build a fleet of those while giving us a discounted/free one.
>>
>>37705984
That was exactly my plan also. Apparently, that's freaking out of character and instead of asking our resident scientist who comes from a time of flying cars and helicopters about it, we should do hump the desert on foot or by "sliding ice" or whatever retardation the elemental minded lads wanted.
>>
>>37705984
for the IRL matters it's only because Soma got lazy and forgot to make it an automatic process like he'd agreed to do so everytime we'd start a meditation, also pretty sure we drained the sword in between Namek and our return in our world.
>>
>>37706000
Mate, I agree with you, but either way we won't be using an air ship to cross the Pavala, developing a solid design and building one in the desert could take years.

>>37706022
It was both Soma being lazy, and us forgetting about it. Go spam his ask page to remind him.
Also, escaping Namek happened about five months ago.
>>
>>37706060
>>37706022

I can get behind this idea. Talk with SK set a meeting with father, get funding for a prototype. Take it from there. Of course not right now, maybe after getting back from Pavala.
>>
>>37706151
We could just give him a research queue to work on while we're gone, top on that list would be water filtering and vys research.
>>
>>37706022
>>37706151
Last time we drained it was after the Baldev debacle.

We agreed not to do it in Namek cause lasck of Vys.

But Soma forgot to do it when we got back.

Someone wanna be an asshole and go count the meditations and how much Vys we should have in there? Be a REALL asshole move
>>
>>37706151
Designing and refining such a design would still take months, maybe years, even with all the knowledge. Figuring out certain ways to manufacture the materials needed alone could take weeks, it's not an undertaking I want to spend dozens of threads on.
We can pitch the idea and let our father handle it from there.

Something MUCH quicker would be building a hot air baloon to get into the Pavala, that wouldn't take much and we could do the heating part ourselves. If we meditate on fire a little more we'd even be able to (somewhat) steer it with wind.
>>
>>37706060
The way I see it, we've got three ways of crossing the Pa-vala. Walking doesn't count for the same reason sitting in a parked a car in front of a train doesn't count as taking the train.

OC Flight-suits: Study Zahak's wings with the assistance of Skull kid to develop a small flight chassis for single man flight. This has the benefit of possibly taking the shortest amount of time and being the simplest, with the drawback that it's the least safe.

Rhynian Airships: We go to the central headquarters outlined in the Dux's letter and either steal the location of or an actual airship, and use that for our Pa-valan expedition. Their technology has shown immense staying power and the mine facility stayed operational for millennia. Anything that needs repairs/improvements will be Skull Kid's job. The benefits of this approach are that it's the most safe (protective) and allows us to bring more support staff and people. However, we'll need to keep this a secret, and it'll take a moderate amount of time to get it done.

Skull-Tech: Have Skull kid build a basic airplane or whatever using his Vys harvesters. It kind of combines the simplicity of flight suits with the more durable, protective nature of an airship. However, it'll be expensive, and take the longest amount of time. Also, we won't be able to keep it secret.

>>37706151
That's a horrible idea. We've been told by Sehzade that his friends, top tier grandmasters who knew dozens of metas and grandmastered multiple elements died there. We're a young grandmaster with less than a dozen effects and metas. We won't be able to survive, much less keep our companions alive. We need flight and we need flight now if we're going to get through what Soma has been calling an end game area for a hundred threads now.
>>
>>37706151
We could gain a steady income to fund it with that plan an anon posting earlier about starting a logging company or using runes to make salt water into fresh then building or buying some farms and since we have a free steady income of water we could farm the most thirsty of crops and i think those would sell pretty good in the desert
>>
>>37706212
Or, you know, a hot air baloon. At most 2 days to set up.
Minimal effort, not very fast but safe. And faster than walking for sure.

>>37706245

Pretty sure walking is a perfectly fine way.

Thousands of people make trips into it eveyr year.

There are people who live in the Pa'vala and walk it.

THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO LIVE THERE.

>>
>>37706302

I just don't want to spend another few dozen threads arguing about airship mechanics and generally not making much progress. Also the ideas are a little too meta for my taste.

Hot air baloon would be slightly meta too, but less so. Also we could actually get it going in 1 or 2 threads if we wanted to, it's easy, it's practical and we can even steer it with magic.
>>
>>37706395
A combo of the ask and threads questions answered by soma.
Soma confirmed the only reason the desert was an option at the start, is because we would have met a tribe.

Why the shit are we even going to the Pa'vala before checking our other options of removing the entity?
We could probably forge a deal with some high ranking spirit or void being to remove it.
Maybe study the mask and try to bind it back into it?

Do you have any idea how simple jet gliders are? Here's a .webm. Zahak's wings are the basis for the aerodynamic gliding. I'm using his wings because that's an in-character object and motivation to develop propelled flight.

We know all of that stuff in character. Soma said exactly as such.

That's why I said it would take it the longest. Because of the bloody research Flight suits are comparatively simple to a multi-ton ship that flies powered by vys generators, don't you think? And such a ship would be more protective than one man gliders, with all the sheer mass and vys generators instead of dinky Vys harvesters?
>>
>>37706450
Funny enoughone the methods varvar mentioned we can do is almost already possible right now, but its pretty risky and anons would hate to do it.

>>37706460
reptillian wings and a glider are two entirely different designs. Not that a set of glider wings aren't simple enough that most of our party could design them.

It's the propulsion that is the problem. We have nothing that could privide reliable thrust like that. Especially steadily over a decent amount of time.

Ah, right, I just remembered how we had those way back before the invention of jet engines and advanced understanding of aerodynamics and manufacturing.
>I'm using his wings because that's an in-character object and motivation to develop propelled flight.
Those wings would never work for a jet glider mate. Not even close.
>>
>>37706450
We have other shit to do first anyway, plenty of time to discuss our approach to the Pavala.

>>37706459
I want one too but I'd rather find some schematics from a random loot table later on than trying to justify in-character to build one right now.

>>37706460
Where do we get the lift from? Those wings you showed are stationary, Zahaks wings generate lift more by flapping than their aerodynamic profile, your jet glider needs jet engines to generate enough of an airflow around the wings to generate enough lift. How are we gonna do that? How is the rest of our party gonna do that?
>>

The reason I'm specifically looking at Zahak's wings for are for development of a aerodynamic shape for gliding. Soma said that Zahak soars on updrafts and such. The general shape of his wings obviously can be implemented for gliding. Skull Kid has on his hands right now a Vys harvester that captures ambient vys and forces it out in bursts, for a "blast" effect. We can, with our more refined knowledge of magic and enchanting, modify it for creating upward and forward force. Rhynian generators could do the same, only sucking inwards.

>>37706540
Yes. We did. Thank you for pointing out that we did in fact have functional gliders in the 1890's before the Wright Brothers invented first propelled glider. This is instrumental to my argument and you have my sincere gratitude for your contribution.

you're a fucking idiot.

Lenardo Davinci invented the first functional hang glider back in the renaissance.
>>
>>37706665
Well gee. I'm soo happy you got the last part of my sentence where I mentioned the Wright brothers. And their function plan. Powered by basic engines. Built into a large glider. It truly warms my heart to see that /tg/ anons have retained their advanced reading comprehension after all these years.
>>
>>37706612
Jesus you are stupid, to get what you want, we would basically need to make jet packs not gliders.
Its far easier to just make planes instead.
>>
>>37706612
Yes, because we were totally talking about gliders, and they are totally related.
>>
>>37706554
I don't understand why people are so focused on a mechanical solution, you want to lift off? just create a pilar of stone under you that project you ten or twenty meter in the air. you want to move? just use fire magic to warm air (as we do for ilusions) and create gushes of wind.

sure we may end up with one or two broken leg from time to time, but we are GM water vatis, we don't need to worry about it.
>>
>>37706745

>>
>>37706745

>>
>>37706590
>>37706612
Gliders have the problem that they are, you guessed it, gliders. They allowed for controlled descent, if they are refined and even that took a long time. Lift is not simple. Even unpowered flight took ages to develop and not because no one was interested in it, it is one of the quintessential dreams of mankind and it STILL took so fucking long that we actually have black and white pictures of the earliest good gliders.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lift_%28force%29

>>37706607
Contrary to popular believe jet engines are NOT simple, knowing about jet engines does not enable you to build them.
Smart enchanting won't help you refine the knowleded metalurgy by about 2000 years to enable you to construct rotorblades that can withstand those forces and so on.
Magic might be a possible way around this but the knowledge for that would be so entirely meta that there is no conceivable way to construct that in character in any reasonable timeframe.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airbreathing_jet_engine
>>
>>37706745
So you are gonna ignore the constant drain on our vys reserves this will do, or how the method you said is useless for our companions?
>>
>>37706789
Jet engines aren't in the equation. We want Skull Kid's Vys harvesters since they'll have a source of energy, the ambient Vys. They don't drain personal Vys or else Skull Kid would have been a lifeless husk.
>>
>>37706789
One cool idea is that if there is a repel rune you could repel earth and have an antigrav sort of vehicle. There would have to be many more aspects to it than that of course but just as a concept it could be interesting, especially for overland trade.
>>
So our choices is either good old fashion hot air balloon with propellers, or a wright brothers styled airplanes.
Both are low tech enough and aren't too advanced that soma it isn't meta.
>>
>>37706745
Imagine just how fast that would drain our vys pool, oh and if we fumble a roll we break our back. Oh also we need to do this for the entire party. For days.

Your idea is retarded.

A hot air baloon can lift 500kg powered by a laughably small flame we could keep up pretty much forever without any checks.

Try to think about what you write a little more before you click "Submit" please.
>>
>>37706864
That's basically it. I think we've established everything that's worth establishing at this point. The only productive thing to do is to stop, cool down, and wait for Soma. I know tempers may have gotten heated, but this is all meta. We don't know anything for sure until we make the in-game decision to start talking to Fulvia and Skull Kid about flight/local airships. Let's not have this argument and our bad feelings seep into the quest. We're all here for the same thing, to have a good time, Soma's storytelling, and your favorite NPC, Waifu, whatever.
>>
>>37706840
You do realize how impossible it would be for one man (albeit a very smart one) to adapt a simple, basic engine, in it's very early stages of development, that he barely knows anything about it's fuel source, into an engine capable of lift and sustained flight? Not to mention adapting that to an actual flying contraption, any flying contraption really, and perfectly adjusting it so it doesn't crash and burn as soon as we try it?
This shit just isn't a good idea, drop it.

>aerodynamic shape
Can be done, Eulidean steel if necessary

Probably can be done with some rune, speed maybe, although obviously complex

Fire runes, and if one needs to keep the air flow not in the center relatively cool, then that can be done with runes while it's inside the engine itself as well.
I do not support the idea itself, actually.

I don't think the plane is an option, we have no practical way of generating enough propulsion for suffiecient lift and then we'd still need to STEER it, an enourmous undertaking. It would also need to transport the entire party.
Not really an option.

Steering a baloon would be much easier, also it won't fail and crash into the ground with enormous speed if anything even slightly goes wrong. Deadly hot air baloon crashes are rare, google it, even struck by lightning they hold up pretty well.

I'm no engineer either but I do know that highly simplified diagrams can be deceiving.

Soooo....next item on the agenda. I'd like to address the possibility that Profectus is being drained by the little spirit we saw with our magic sight. Before we started teaching him, he told us that he was a Fire vatis. However, he had a pitiable amount of Vys in his reserve. In addition, when he expanded it, this is what happened:

>>32664167
Spirit Leeching Profectus?: Profectus is next. “I haven't really flexed my new powers yet, but it seems like I'm more in control of my arm. It doesn't hurt nearly as much, and overall I just feel... I don't know, happier. More energetic. I would wager that I can also produce more powerful blast if I need to.” Fulvia remarks. “You also wagered you could beat me in a game of cards. We both know how that ended.” He waves her off. “Oh come on, you were cheating. You had to have stuffed some cards up your sleeves or some such. Anyway, I'm doing well is what I'm getting at.”

There's a very real possibility that the parasite or symbiote or whatever is and was draining Profectus' Vys. All of the those symptoms, the depression and the aches and the lack of drive, coincide with the effects of a low Vys pool.
>>
>>37707121
Mechanical diagrams don't matter as much when dealing with just the effects it is meant to create though.
That's like making a diagram of a fridge or super-high heater and thinking it's complex because it looks that way, when we could make a basket and do a combination of fire+contain so the basket withstands the heat unharmed while everything inside gets subjected to 100000K theoretically.

We know young spirits drain mortals' souls and vys, anon, it was stated by Soma himself.
>>
>>37707003
This, he probably knows how to build an airship or at least a ballon
>>
>>37707206
Should we do something about that? Get Profectus into contact with that little bugger so he can negotiate a better deal than "fiery arm cannon?"
>>
So my inner jew has awakened, is there anyway we can help get gold back in our pockets and help our family with one if its made(air balloons)?
>>
>>37707137
I don't know, his hermit girlfriend is apparently fuck old (at least way older that prof in term of life after waking up) and doesn't show any sign of being drained.

perhaps it's real, but it seems that we have time to handle this. also I think rhynians at least tried (and probably succeeded) to prevent that, because that an obvious side effect you don't want.

actually studying prof arms could reveal some way to contains spirits, perhaps.
>>
>>37707274
Honestly SK is our meal ticket.
He can make our family us, and him pretty rich.
we just need to think of a perfect split for profits and what he should make/design.
>>
>>37707137
Pretty sure the old vatis he encountered took care of it, we should probably check what he did some time anyways.
>>
What if we just directly approach Skull Kidd and say something like:

"Hey, for the upcoming journey to the Pavala, we know that walking along the ground is incredibly dangerous. Is there perhaps something we could use to fly over the sands? I know the Rhynians had airships in the past, do you know of something simple that could be built in a fairly short period of time (ie weeks. We could meditate while construction goes on for like a hot air balloon or something). We have the funds to do so, and magic could probably help with the process or function of such a machine."
>>
>>37707183
That diagram shows what is actually needed to create that simple looking airflow. I tried to find one of a very early jet engine but was mostly unsuccessful, the ones I did find looked mechanically just as complicated.
Making a diagram of that airflow and putting a line showing you a "Combustion chamber" makes it look simple, you still have to construct a combustion chamber, with or without magic, to make it work and let's not even talk about the materials involved in the entire thing.

I wanted to show that there is an actual reason why the development of jet engines took teams of the brightest engineers of the planet decades.
I could also post a simplified diagram of the effects an Alcubierre drive creates, doesn't mean we can make one.
>>
>>37707371
probably did a rune that allowed him better access to the power.
Soma confirmed that he could get his old arm(well close enough atleast) back if he ever raised his mastery in both earth and fire.
>>
>>37707317
Prof was possibly the first though.
What was wrong with him may have been fixed by the time they got to Tercia.
>>
>>37707389
Pretty much, yeah.
>>
>>37707342
I think SK could make tremendous progress if we linked him with our master ability to make (what we alas only in meta) electricity.

by the way, morcia migth bring a lot of dosh if she set up a medicinal office.
>>
>>37707407
same spirit it seems, so my guess is that she is stronger and the arm doesn't cause her pain.
>>
>>37707392
The reason it took decades to develop was probably at least partially because the engineers couldn't just write a couple words on a surface and have incredible, infinite heat flow from that surface.
>>
So are we gonna ignore that our son could hear our brooche convos?
>>
>>37707389
Well yes. That's the only thing we really can do IC without getting meta which Soma doesn't allow and I would find stupid.
SK would think about it for a while and come to the conclusion that a plane is not an option in any reasonable time span and tell us how to make a hot air balloon, which, the more I think about it, would be extremely easy to both make and operate with magic and very practical all things considered.
>>
>>37707532
Yeah
>>
>>37707532
I think it's fine. Fulvia can hear all the brooch conversations too. We don't really have anything to hide from Zahak in those conversations anyways.
>>
>>37707581
>>37707570
It just shows that maybe the brooches can be heard from other beings, but also could help him speak to the others.
>>
>>37707532
I'm not worried about it, it's probably only through his mental connection with Mik
>>
>>37707581
It's not about hiding it, it's about him being able to do it at all. He shouldn't be able to, from what we know of the brooches.
Also
>implying we don't have anything to hide from Zahak

So it's perhaps a bit late to write-in for Haggle, especially since we already succeeded, but I want to talk about demand while we're haggling.

Something like "While I understand the power of these artifacts, how do you expect to sell them? Who out there has the desire for such things, the coin to purchase them and the power to wield them. Why the armor alone is likely beyond the capabilities of all but the greatest vatis to wear. Many of them are recluse and uninclined to adventure, which is what the armor could conceivably be used for in this age. Of the ones who do adventure, how likely is it that they will find your shop and have the money to pay for the armor? I am probably the only person who will come here with the potential to buy this armor in hundreds of years, and even I have alternatives. I think you are overestimating how much this armor is worth."

I also think that we can talk to him about the centurion armor and our own warlock armor in conjunction with our adventures, and make not of how they never lead us astray. We can use illustrations to tell the story as we did with our family. He was probably an adventurer, so I imagine he'll respect the tales we tell him.

>>
>>37708359
It is nice not having to force Vys into our voice and posture to intimidate people.
>>
>>37708218
At least I managed to get the write-in in before Soma got here.
>>
>>37708186

>>
>>37708472
Sure, I'll write it in.
>>
>>37708359
I wish we'd get even better and get sound on those illusions as well.
We should definitely keep at it with the fire magic, especially if we want to go through with the balloon.
>>
>>37708472
We could segue into his adventures if we do end up talking about ours. It would be a fairly natural flow of the conversation too.
>>
>>37708496
And people in Mundus say fire magic is only useful for offense and destroying your enemies.
>>
>>37708527
Casuals. It's useful both for offense and utility and if we get good enough we can do both at the same time.

>>
>>37708586
How fucking funny would it be if we could create music better with lightning than we could play the oud?
>>
>>37708618
Considering we'd purely be using magic for that, which we are actually good it, it's not unlikely this could actually happen.
Which would be hilarious.
>>
>>37708496
about ilusions, I tought perhaps we could use ice prisms to make them, that would help us with color.

perhaps we could do sound by vibrating minuscule ice shards?

doing ice lens should also be trivial.
>>
>>37708926
I don't think we have a problem with colors in the first place and I don't know if water ice has strong enough refraction to even work very well as a prism but we could try.
Vibrating tiny things to produce sounds is also terribly inefficient, sound is compression waves in air, tiny thing = tiny compression wave = high energy loss = you don't hear anything.

You hold up a finger. “First, let us agree that we are negotiating for the armor and the spear as a pair. That's nine thousand silver, an exorbitant sum. Don't misunderstand, I know they're surely powerful artifacts. Yet I'm forced to ask who your intended buyers are. Powerful vatis capable of wearing the armor? Why would they seek out your shop? They do not rush off on adventures, they wall themselves off in their homes to train apprentices and perform research in private.”

“Do you instead court daring adventurers like myself? Why would a man like me wish to waste a vast portion of their wealth on an armor they cannot even wear? How many of them will even find your store? I happened upon it only by chance whilst wandering through the Vatis district. Judging by the state of the place I'm probably your first customer this century.”

The merchant notes, with a somewhat amused tone in his voice. “If you can't wear the armor perhaps you ought not purchase it, thus saving yourself the money you would've otherwise spent.”

You falter for a moment. You... well, you can't really fault that logic, but damn it you want that armor. “Consider it an investment in the future. It is a goal to strive for, or if circumstances grow desperate a secret weapon, so to speak. If I don't buy it now, who's to say it will be here the next time I am in town? Who is to say I'll have the money next time I'm in town?”

The old man retorts. “The wanderlust I so avidly pursued in my youth has faded with age, lad. I won't be going anywhere for quite some time I'm sure and as you so succinctly pointed out, I do not get much business. Not that I need much business to sustain myself, one or two purchases a year are more than enough for me to live comfortably after taking into account the stipend payed to me by the Shah for... services rendered.”

(1/4)
>>
You wonder if he means he's worked with the new Shah or if he's merely referring to the wages all Vatis receive from the government. If he is indeed as old and powerful as you're inclined to believe he is, then he'd be receiving quite the generous allowance from the government each month. Regardless, he's made a very grave mistake.

“Then by your own admission you've no need of the money! What's the harm in knocking a few thousand silver off the price? Assuming I survive my future endeavors, you'd have one yourself a loyal customer! I'll happily admit I'm quite pleased with what I've seen so far of your shop.”

The old man folds his arms across his chest. “It's the principle of the matter. One does not give a child the keys to the Shah's Vault for naught but a silver piece. That, oh valued customer, is what you ask of me! You cannot be more than, what, perhaps thirty at most? By your own admission, the armor is worthless to you! You can't wear it, nor should you. To do so could result in your death or the loss of your sanity. Then where would I be, without my newfound loyal customer?”

You get the impression that he's playing with you, or at the very least not taking this all that seriously. It frustrates you but only mildly. “You would not call me a child if you knew the things I've seen, or the places I've been.” Above your head stretches a pale canvas, scenes of the Mines of Longia painting themselves upon its surface. “I have delved deep beneath the surface of Mundus in search of ancient artifacts.”
>>
>>37709042
would it work with one correctly sized (I imagine something around a fist size) ice shard vibrating inside the illusion then?
>>
“I have traveled to impossible lands-” The image above you is replaced by one of the futuristic city in which you were imprisoned for a brief period. “-and learned things you cannot imagine.” You let the illusion drop, light returning to the room. You hadn't realized you'd dimmed them. Oddly enough you feel that headache you experienced yesterday starting to return, but as it stands it's merely a dull throb in your temples.

“In only a few days time I will voyage into the Pa'vala myself in search of an artifact to free the mind from foul influences and restore one's sanity. I am more than capable of taking care of myself, the fact I'm still alive should testify to that.”

You can't really be certain, but you think that you've won a bit of the old man's respect. “Longia? I recall that ruin well. I led an expedition once to map out the upper levels. We didn't get more than a hundred feet down before we had to abandon the entire endeavor. Giant spiders, lizards the size of a man, foul entities from the Void itself, and all sorts of other monstrosities walk those halls. If what you say is indeed true... well, I could accept six thousand gold for the armor and spear.”

That's not a bad price, really. You got him down to less than seventy percent of his original price. You knew that the fifty percent you'd hoped for was a pipe dream, but you think you ought to be able to negotiate for a little less than what he's offering. “Five thousand silver, it's a fair price. It's a fortune, really.”

The old man shakes his head. “I could get four thousand just for donating the armor itself to the Shah. Eight hundred or so for the sword. At that price, I may as well donate them.”
>>
>>37709665
You aren't thinking big enough, how about a sousaphone to go with an oud?
>>
You question whether or not it's really a donation if they pay you for the items, but push that thought from your mind. “So far as I was aware, forty eight hundred was still less than five thousand. Unless they altered some basic rule of arithmetic while I've been wandering the waste. What's your counter offer then?”

There is a long pause as the merchant considers. “Fifty six hundred. You're practically stealing them from me at that price.”

There is a brief back and forth as you name one price and he names another. Eventually you settle on fifty two hundred silver. You really feel like you came out the winner, but that's still a significant sum. Not half your wealth, but nearly so.

You lay your cloak on the floor and pull it away, revealing a small chest sitting neatly on the floor. The old man doesn't even seem the slightest bit phased by your little trick. Unlike your usual tendency to pay as much of the cost in gold as you could, you decided to distribute the cost more evenly. Three hundred gold pieces, and seven hundred silver, for a total value of five thousand two hundred silver.
>New Wealth: 6410 silver (298gp, 1940sp); Very wealthy, seldom little is beyond your price range.
>Gained Fiendish Trident!
>Gained Heavy Warlock Armor!
>Gained Shield of the Scorpion!
>Gained Shield of Leleki!

You heft the chest of coins onto the counter and slide it across to the old man, grabbing the spear and sliding it into your cloak. The armor is a bit trickier of a prospect, as it doesn't easily fit inside your cloak. Fortunately when you drape it over the massive construction of carapace and steel, Ricky does the rest of the work for you by dragging it inside. Once your new gear is safely within your possession, you drape your cloak over one arm.

(Still writing dialogue with old man, but wanted to get this out to y'all. Man, I say really too much. I need to cut down on that shit.)

Ice isn't really flexible. Vibrating ice really isn't that great of an idea, just like vibrating most solids, really. If you really want to vibrate something to produce sound a flexible membrane is by far the best thing you can get, but then you'd just have an ordinary speaker and you have to ask yourself the question why we would do something as lame as that we can can produce sound with lightning.

The old man is quite engrossed in counting your money, but you figure there's no reason not to make light conversation. It's not like counting coins is a particularly thought intensive process. “You seem a well traveled sort, would you mind sharing tales of your past adventures? Any advice for one who intends to journey into the Pa'vala?”

The merchant looks up from his counting, nodding his head. “Oh yes, plenty of advice. Perhaps the best advice I could give you is this: Don't go there. I know that will mean nothing to you, but trust me when I say that the Pa'vala is an inhospitable wasteland. I lost many dear friends on my voyage into that blighted realm.”

He pauses counting for a moment, consumed by a fit of coughing. Once it subsides he clears his throat and launches into a story. “I recall once, we were in the company of some of the natives. Believe it or not, people do live in the Pa'vala. Not many people, but a few. Anyway, they spotted signs of a worm on the approach in the distance. I didn't see anything, but they all insisted we pick up the pace.”

“They have this strange, shuffling way of walking. Like they're all touched in the head. Rather comical to watch, supposedly it prevents drawing the attention of the worms. Regardless it didn't work on that specific occasion. Beneath us the sand began to turn, and in an instant we were rising through the air as massive jaws began to enclose our entire band, swallowing us whole. Fortunately I was able to escape thanks to an artifact I had in my possession, I called them Boots of the Giant, they allowed me to travel an inordinate amount of space with but a single stop. I think it relied to some degree on the same principals by which spirits jump themselves all about the place.”

(1/2 or 3)
>>
>>37710468
That sounds something that mik would say.
>>
He waves a hand dismissively. “Anyway, two of my companions were not so lucky, nor were the vast majority of he natives. Only myself, our guide, a human I'd met in Aleamond, and my first wife, may she find peace within Pani's embrace, managed to escape death. Our guide led us to an old ruin where we took shelter for the night.”

He shakes his head sadly, a rattling sigh ushering from beneath his mask. “In terms of practical advice? Hire a guide, an experienced guide. It's the only way you'll have a chance of making it through the Pa'vala alive. Do exactly as they say, when they say it. Regardless of how strange what they ask may seem.”

He sets the last of your coin atop one of the many piles arrayed before him, nodding. “Everything seems to be in order. I wish you luck, though I will not be holding my breath until our next meeting.”

Upon exiting the shop you find Stelios leaned against the side of your carriage, staring off down the street at two arguing Vatis. One of them shoots a jet of flame at the other, who merely extinguishes it without so much as a glance. It seems rather heated, to say the least. Not that it's any of your concern.

Doesn't the shah have 3 types of guards, one is vatis hunters, one is the royal guard, and the other is his fabled assassins.
>>
>>37710742
We've got some other stuff to do first, in that time our party could try to get gud and informed about the Pavala, especially since that mansion now has pretty awesome training rooms.
Once we return we'd also spend some time actually preparing of course if people don't try to rush things, which could actually get us killed this time.
I hope this doesn't happen, I really do.
>>
>>37710936
No?
>>
>>37710811
Vatis are not the exclusive wielders of magical power in Pidjata, as I've said most everyone knows at least a little magic. Parlor tricks. Only those of exceptional talent or those with enough money to bribe a few officials end up being Vatis.

Thus, most talented magic users ought to be Vatis, but it's feasible to believe that a magically powerful Samjan could escape detection throughout his life and learn to cast on his own. Granted it would be incredibly difficult, but not impossible.

>>37710936
For the most part, vatis are employed to hunt down other vatis once they've gone rogue. All Vatis are technically employed by the shah. His Royal Guard are more like a personal retinue, a force to keep the nobility in check. The assassins supposedly vanished along with the Hiacian Empire.

it's already heavy armor..
Why would we want to use a shield as well?

WTF are you saying why would we drain our vys pool?
Learning our meta's would put us over 50.
That MIGHT be enough so we could wear our warlock armor 24/7.
Since we wore it two meditation straight, along with drugs. and it messed us up.
But that was due to us having a smaller vys pool.
Using drugs
Using the armor for two meditations right after one another.
SO using the warlock armor now, by itself (even at 41) we could likely wear it all day. and take it off for sleeping and be good.

Although the Varistha said that enchanting was becoming a dying art because the best of the best enchanters were becoming mountain hermits, the timing is really odd.

Think they had some sort of forewarning to the Fall of Rhynia and Hiacia, or some other such thing which would lead them away?
There was also the fact that he considered it a dying art at the time, which is odd, because that means the enchanters kept such a strict control of their knowledge that it was never widely reproduced or spread for all the practical purposes it could serve. Which kinda makes sense given the nature of what it does.

You snap your fingers to get Stelios' attention. “We're heading back to the estate, but only to pick up one of my companions.”

He stands up straight, bowing to you briefly before pulling open the carriage door. You climb inside, Zahak perking up at the sight of you. He's taken up one half of the seats inside, stretching himself out as far as he could. You slide into a seat next to him as Stelios closes the door and climbs up onto the driver's bench. He rest his head in your lap, nuzzling you lightly.

{You were in there for a really long time! I was bored. What did you get? You smell weird. What was inside that place? It felt like power.}

You scratch at the base of Zahak's horns as the carriage begins to roll across the paving stones. {I'm sorry Zahak, negotiations took longer than I'd thought they would. I bought a new suit of armor, two shields, and a weapon. It was a shop for selling enchanted trinkets, like my cloak or your blanket.} After a moment's thought, you decide to ask. {How do I smell weird?}

Zahak straightens his long neck, sniffing at your clothes. His tongue flicks out briefly to taste the air before he rest his head once more on your lap. {You smell like mold, and dust, and something else. I don't know what it is but it smells gross. You smell gross, Papa.}

You smile wryly. {I suppose I'll need to bathe at some point in the near future. You'll have to excuse Papa for a moment, he needs to talk to Chrys.}

You reach out via the brooches, opening the connection you share with Chrys. {I'm on my way back to the estate, should only be about thirty minutes.}

(1/2)
>>
Her response comes after only a momentary pause. {Very well, repairs are going well here. We have begun work on the upstairs rooms and it's going well. Fulvia has hired some additional help in the form of payed laborers, they have greatly improved the speed at which we work. The gardeners she bought in the slave markets have likewise set about tending to the green room. I will be waiting outside when you arrive.}

Zahak speaks up as Chrys severs the connection. {I like Chrys. Why are you going back to get her? Can I come with you?}

Questions, questions, questions. So many questions. You suppose this is what one should expect from fatherhood. {Chrys wants to get some armor she once wore repaired. You can come with us if you'd like, but it won't be very exciting. We'll merely be searching the city for a armorer of suitable skill.}

You get the sense that Zahak is deep in thought, so you leave him alone. You've got thirty minutes to kill, so you reach into your cloak and extract the Ritual Book of Surya. It takes you no time at all to flip to the page you left off on, where the author was discussing how to harden oneself against the pain of fire. Most of his advice seemed to essentially involve submersing oneself in fire until the flesh melts from your bones.

The next chapter seems to revolve around church doctrine and policy, as well as politics Of course, they're the politics of a thousand years ago, but they're still sort of interesting. It begins with a brief tribute to Pani, entreating the 'Master' to treat them kindly. You're not sure why they'd ask Pani to treat them kindly, she treats all of her children kindly. Regardless, you read on. It discusses the expulsion of the ' Moabadan-Moabad' from the Shahanshah's closed council. It's not a term you're familiar with.

(2/3)
>>
The Council was convened so that the Dasturs and the deposed Moabadan might discuss how to handle this slight. The discussed seriously open warfare against the Shah, but ultimately decided to separate their authority from secular authority and become a purely religious institution. Interesting that you hadn't heard of this.

So far as you were aware, a Moabad was the head of a temple dedicated to Surya. A Herbad was a rank and file monk, and a Dastur was the head of a number of temples, a regional governor. That would mean the Moabadan-Moabad was some sort of high priest, much as the Amatya serves as the High Priest of Pani and holds a seat on the Shah's council.
>Ritual Book of Surya (10/16 Chapters Read)

You feel the carriage roll to a halt, the door opening a moment later and Chrys climbing inside. Her hair is still in the process of drying and her clothes look fresh. You'd assume she found the time to take a bath, or a swim. One of the two. Regardless she takes a seat across from you and nods politely.

Stelios stands in the doorway, looking to you for instruction. “Where shall you be wanting me to go, sir?"

The reason we need a higher vys pool is because it harms our body by oversaturating it with Vys.

If we have a higher pool we can wear it for longer as the amount it is putting in is negligible to the damage of the container.

Therefore being already partially drained should give us a small buffer

I truly hope you have plans at some point to write a fantasy novel, because this quest alone is Shannara/Game of Thrones Tier levels of goodness, with, dare I say it, better flow in the actual writing.

Never end this quest, man. Never.

>>37712424
Yeah, that's why it became a successful television series.
By removing the majority of his writing and just capturing the story and characters instead.
>>
>>37712424
My biggest gripe with him is the proper noun density per page, once you notice how many goddamn names there are squished together everywhere, or even worse, names referencing events it becomes almost impossible to read. At least for me. I quit because of this shit in the middle of book 3.

>Never end this quest, man. Never.
I'd be fine with it actually, I don't want it to end by getting killed but I'd accept that too.
And then we start a new quest in the same universe, new race, class and so on could be a ton of fun, but we're not nearly at the point where it would be more interesting to start over than to keep going.

You debate briefly whether you want to have a Metal vatis perform the repairs or a skilled smith, but then it occurs to you that the two aren't mutually exclusive. You could have a smith repair the non-fragile portions of the armor, and a Vatis repair the rest. “For now, head towards the Common District. Keep an eye out for blacksmith's shops. Not small ones though, I don't mean a road side stall. Look for workshops, big and elaborate ones.”

It seems reasonable to you that the most experienced and skilled smiths would have the nicest workshops. Of course, it doesn't necessarily ring true. The most skilled are not always the wealthiest. However, it's a good general rule of thumb.

Stelios nods, shutting the door. A moment later you hear him clambering up onto the driver's bench and the crack of a whip sets the carriage in motion. You have to say, it's nice having a driver to cart you around. You should've bought a slave sooner.

Chryssa interrupts your thoughts. “I take it you didn't find any armor that would be suitable to replace my own?”

You turn your attention to her, instead of staring out the window. “I'm afraid not. I did find a suit of armor, but much like my Warlock Armor it suffuses the body with vys. As I'm sure you know, excess vys can prove fatal for those not acclimated to its detrimental effects.”

She smiles just slightly, barely perceptible. “Of course. I was actually just recently reading a tome which recalled the practices of ancient Hiacian ascetics. They revealed 'Sources of Power'. Areas inundated with an inordinate amount of vys. They would seclude themselves for weeks at a time, meditating in the most remote reaches of the desert to grow their reserves. They would fast until they'd grown delirious and then ingest the strangest materials. Mushrooms, flowers, vast quantities of opium. It was fascinating, though not particularly relevant to my own pursuits.”

(1/4)
>>
You'd heard of the ascetics in some vague sense previously, though you'd never bothered to read up on them. They were mostly religious fanatics or cultist worshiping something or another. Most were dedicated to Pani so far as you know, though the ancient and modern faiths have seldom little in common. The modern faith doesn't extract every ounce of moisture from the bodies of the dead and seal it within urns to gift to the families of the departed.

“What else have you been reading?” You ask, genuinely curious. She seems rather studious after all, you're sure she's found all sorts of interesting tidbits.

She cocks her head to the side contemplatively. “I have been reading a number of things. I've been trying to improve my grasp of Earth Magic by making sculpture, but I always lose my focus before I can gain any sort of insight. I grow too focused on the end result and refuse to accept any error.”

That's odd, normally meditating improves one's ability, she shouldn't have to worry about making mistakes. Perhaps something to discuss with her later.

“I have also been pursuing fire magic, but only passively. I wish to further perfect my understanding of Earth magic before I branch out too far. Once I have mastered Earth Magic I believe I will pursue water. I actually found an interesting looking treatise on water magic in the library at the estate.”

“It was the critical analysis of an ancient legend your people once told, regarding a Vatis who could change his shape at will. They were called Sushila the Mad, and were able to change their form at will by rotting the flesh from their bones and healing themselves rapidly. The author found the idea ridiculous, stating that Sushila would need to be able to alter their perception of self at will. Personally, I found the concept interesting.”
(2/4)
>>
That does sound interesting. You'd wondered if perhaps Water Magic could be used for such purposes in the past, that is changing one's shape. You'll need to ask her to show you that treatise at some point.

The carriage rolls on, slowing many times but never stopping. Conversation peters out, Zahak seizing the opportunity to nip one of Chrys's fingers. She jerks her hand away, frowning just slightly. You're flooded with a sense of pride as Zahak triumphantly tells you. {I did it! I finally got her! Did you see that Papa? I got her!}

Chrys looks genuinely shocked, more so than you've ever seen her. “Zahak can speak? When did he learn? I thought him mute.”

You're a little surprised she could hear him, frankly. You assume Zahak must have transmitted his thoughts to her intentionally. “He only just learned today. I taught him to meditate, and it just clicked for him. Apparently he'd pulled most of the knowledge from my mind when he was still within his egg.”

Zahak's voice once more pushes its way into your thoughts. {You still owe me a goat for that! I haven't forgotten Papa, so don't try and hide from your debts! I'll know!}

He seems rather excited about the whole thing. In an instant he lunges at Chryssa's hand, though she manages to snatch it away before he has a chance to bite her. She bops him lightly on the nose for his effort.

Zahak mentally cries out after the fact. {Curse this foul woman and her infernal skill! I will bite her finger again!}

Watching the two of them go at it is... interesting. Especially with Zahak's added commentary. He seems to have quite the mature vocabulary when it comes to swearing up and down that he'll kick some ass.

(3/4)
>>
Eventually the carriage rolls to a stop and Stelios pulls the door open a moment later. “I am of the belief that I have found a place that will satisfy your wishes.” He states in his own roundabout way. “Is biggest workshop I am seen!”

You climb out of the carriage to find yourself before a pair of great, elaborate gates. They seem to be formed from delicate, sweeping arms of steel converging together. Inside you see men and women practicing with a number of weapons, and some sort of military-esque drill taking place as an instructor calls out forms and a crowd of students runs through them. Hammers ring against steel, the noise filling the square. There seem to be three buildings forming the complex, and all of it is surrounding by a high perimeter wall. A sign at the gate reads simple 'Workshop'.

You try the gates, but find them locked.

You clear your throat and call out to the drill instructor. “Excuse me! Sir, I've a business proposition!”

You attract a few stares, the Drill Instructor glancing over his shoulder towards you. He barks out some orders to the mass of students before making his way across the yard. As he draws nearer you're able to pick out a few more details about him. He's got a well trimmed goatee, solid white as far as you can tell, and shoulder length hair of a similar color. His face is lined with deep wrinkles, and a number of small scars mar his features. You'd estimate that he's somewhere north of five hundred years old, probably closer to six hundred.

Despite his apparent age he stands tall and straight, roughly the same height as you. There is a certain dignified air about him, you'd guess he's either of noble birth or otherwise accustomed to command. Either way he's got the biggest arms you've ever seen on a Samjan, he could probably lift and throw you if he really wanted to.

As he nears the gate the man comes to a halt, addressing you. “Mas'ud Burakgazi. I own this workshop. Are you interested in commissioning weapons or armor?” He speaks tersely, probably annoyed that you interrupted his drill. His name brings to mind some inkling of recognition.

If you recall correctly, the Burakgazi family is one of the oldest and staunchest supporters of the military. Minor nobility from the outskirts of Apejo, their holdings lie on the border between the Shahdom and the Samrajya. They've produced more famous soldiers and triumphant generals than any other family in the whole of Pidjata. You've heard they begin to learn the art of swordsmanship as soon as they're able to walk. Whether he's from the noble line or the common line, you can't be certain.

Somaa, now we know there's a treatise on shapeshifting, but would developing it on our own through experiments give us 2 vys points, instead of just 1 for learning it?
What is our present fire insight counted as?
>>
>>37714515
An analysis which called Sushila's legend ridiculous isn't really a "treatise on shapeshifting," as much as it is a starting point of research.

>I've been trying to improve my grasp of Earth Magic by making sculpture, but I always lose my focus before I can gain any sort of insight. I grow too focused on the end result and refuse to accept any error.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? I got zilch.

I can't wait for the "experiment" where Mik's melt his forearm muscle then regrow them only to fudge the dices and grow a dick arm.

Seems like she's going too fast on the process, it takes ages for rocks to erode and shit.
>>
>>37714748
What the anon above me said. As she already has the hint that she had focused too much on the end result, it seems fair to assume she's just going too quickly.

Bar the magic bit It's actually the same thing that most aspiring artists experience at one point or another. Focused too much on the goal and not on the work they currently have in front of them.
>>
>>37714748
Perhaps the fact that she's only trying to make sculpture through either building or erosion.
She should try eroding different things with earth magic, eroding in varying degrees of difficulty, attempt to erode things that aren't earth with earth magic, etc.
Overall her method doesn't sound very taxing, so mechanically it's probably not got all that great of a bonus unless she supersizes it.
>>
>>37714843
im with you. We should just meditate with her. on earth. remind her of how it should be going.
and what she should be focusing on.
would be to bad to learn something usefull in the mean time.

Earth was the domain of The Entity.

No.
>>
>>37715021
Good idea anon we can tell her that Earth Magic can erode the mind to make people insane.
Or that when within a deep meditation it can erode the strings that bind the universe.

Erosion really is a neat thing..
>>
>>37715061
SHE told US that Earth can erode the mind, she read it in a book, I think it was in the temple.
>>
>>37715021
why wouldn't we?
we should be focusing on metal. I am down for giving her a metal lesson just to teach her what to focus on.
Cause lets be seirous the more metal we have the closer we're to getting a badass passive mental shield. but if we focus on mental shield by master we may have a tiny passive for it. and throw in the three insights toward GM in metal in mind shield and that should be nice.
so fucking far
>>
>>37715125
I was just saying that Earth should be the last thing we advance. Due to Earth being the element of the Entity. Wouldn't want to make it any stronger.

You consider whether or not to introduce yourself. It would be the polite thing to do, but if he's a nobleman he may have heard that one of the Abdul-Hakim boys was banished. “A pleasure to make your acquaintance. Tell me, sir. What do you know of ancient artifacts? Specifically, artifacts of Rhynian make.”

He begins contemplatively stroking his goatee, considering your question. “I've worked on a few, here and there, throughout my life. Weapons mostly, but some armor as well. It's touchy stuff, can't usually replace any parts and maintain the function of the armor. Always need to work with what's there. I can manage okay.”

That bodes ill for your chances of having the armor modified extensively, but you press on. “What about magic, have you pursued any knowledge of the arts?”

His response is quick. “Metal and Fire. Probably a sight better than most Vatis. Never tested for the robes, have no intention to. I've no interest in that life.”

Well that's good to hear at least. You contact Chrys via the brooches. {I think this guy might be able to fix your armor. Could you bring it out here?}

She doesn't respond, but a moment later the door swings open and Chrys slips out, closing it behind her. She's stripped out of her armor, but she seems to have been wearing underrobes after the style of your people beneath. Perhaps slightly scandalous considering you're in public but not overly so. It's not like anything shows.

>>
As she joins you at the gate, she reaches into her pack and withdraws her reinforced Technician's Armor, a hole burned through the center of it by that strange acidic substance the creature you encountered in the lift spit on Chrys. The underlying Technician's Armor was unharmed for the most part, but the leather armor was basically melted right off, it's useless in terms of protection.

You speak, since it seems Chrys is content to let you take the lead. “We'd like you to both repair or replace the leather armor, and incorporate the repaired suit into-” You indicate the strange horned armor Chryssa usually wears. “-that suit. Additionally, if you think it's possible without breaking the armor, we'd like you to replace the mask on the front with a separate mask we've found.”

Chrys reaches once more into her pack and withdraws the Elaudian Death Mask, holding it up for him to inspect. It's now that she decides to speak. “I understand this is a difficult task, and am prepared to compensate you well for your services. However, should you break the armor I will expect a payment in return to cover my own losses. These are all very valuable artifacts.”

Mas'ud reaches out, and Chrys hands him the two suits of armor and the mask. He tucks the mask under one arm and inspects each suit of armor in turn. After a time he speaks. “The leather armor is ruined, I'll need to throw it out. You're essentially asking me to make some sort of monstrous amalgamation of three entirely different suits of armor. Enchanted suits of armor, at that.”

He glances from you to Chryssa. “Most of my peers would tell you to screw yourselves, but lucky for you I enjoy a challenge. How much are you willing to pay?”

Chryssa holds up a hand, begging pause. “Before we discuss payment, I would like to see some examples of your work. To be sure of your talent.”

That's how you become a Grey Knight, anon.
>>
The man nods, handing the two sets of armor and the mask back through the gate. You find the fact he's having you negotiate from the other side of a gate to be terribly rude, but you suppose there's no real reason to kick up a fuss about it. You wait patiently until the man returns, dragging behind him a rack of weapons and armor. There are perhaps five pieces in all, each of them exquisite in their own right. He pulls it up to the gate so you can get a good look.

There are two swords, each decorated with impossibly intricate gold filigree. He's added a strange feature to each, a strange sort of cage surrounding the hilt instead of the usual cross guard. You can't imagine every needing to fear your hand getting cut with a guard like that.

As for his armor, which you're much more interested, you're pleased to see he's skilled in both decorative and more practical armors. There are three full suits, two of plate and one of halfplate. One of the suits of plate is made of some black material, or perhaps painted. It's hard to tell. Silver etches a delicate design of a hawk on its surface, a clump of arrows grasped in its talons. The joints strike you as interesting, he's placed all sorts of additional supports surrounding them. They sort of remind you of the Elaudian Steel armor, judging by the look of them.

The other set has that same feature, but is far more practical. It's thick and bulky. You imagine a man could wade through battle without a care in the world wearing that armor. The helmet is shaped to resemble Surya's scowling face, much as the helmet of your Warlock Armor is. However, the helmet of this armor displays far more detail. You can see Surya's individual sharpened teeth, the fire roiling at the back of his throat, smoke curling from his pupils. It's a truly marvelous work of art.

(3/4)
>>
As for the half plate, it's purely practical. It seems to be constructed upon some sort of leather base, you're inclined to believe one could simply slip it on with enough effort. Perhaps not as protective as plate, but far less burdensome surely.

Chryssa leans forward, inspecting each piece through the bars. Eventually she nods. “I believe your skill sufficient. Now, I am willing to pay you a hundred gold for the work you will be doing.”

The man scowls. “Hope you mean as an up front payment. Double that and maybe it'll be worth the effort.”

Chryssa responds levelly. “You will accept one hundred gold as the entirety of your payment or you will have no business. Let it be known, were it entirely up to me I would rather travel to Anthus and have a smith I'm acquainted with there perform the task. As it is I'm settling for you. Perhaps, if your work proves exceptional, I would be willing to renegotiate upon delivery.”

You can tell the old man's ego is wounded. His response is terse, to say the least. “Deal. Give me three days. I'll have you throwing money at me when you see the work of art I've assembled from the ruined scraps you've handed me to work with.”

Chryss nods, and you retrieve fifty gold in a small pouch from your cloak. You hand it over to the man and he snatches it angrily. “Ungrateful brats, the lot of you. Wouldn't appreciate the art of a master if someone drove it through your gut.” He grumbles, whilst hauling his cart of armor and weapons back into the barn across the yard. Once he's put the cart away, he returns to the front of the mass of students. You assume you're done here, since he returns to shouting instructions.

>>
>>37715140
Don't think it gets stronger as someone become better in the control of this "art".
If we progress only using erosion as a meditation yes it'll gets stronger on it's hold of our mind only because of the destructive nature of the "erosion".
As long as we find a way to meditate on earth that isn't erosion or something hurting the soul it should be "fine"
>>
There's a strange sort of tightness in your chest. The way she handled that smith... you're impressed. You never really took her to be the haggling type. It was artistry, is what it was. Granted she'll probably end up paying more than a hundred gold but you wouldn't expect any more than a hundred fifty, at most. That was just very well handled.

Stelios pulls the door open as the two of you return to the cart. He waits at the door for you to make yourself comfortable. Patiently awaiting instruction. You're going to need to reward this slave, and Prema for picking him out. He's been perfect, exactly what you needed.
