Hey guys, welcome to another session of Mercenary 2030 quest. If you have any better suggestions for a name I’d be open to hearing them. Other than that, this thread won’t be quite as completely PTSD inducing as the first one, but don’t be expecting sunshine and rainbows either.

Other than that, sit back, enjoy and lets have fun.

>Mercenary 2030 Quest Thread 1

Following you getting handed a job by an overworked and likely underpaid military counselor, you had to wait a week and a half until you could be transported to it, apparently supplies didn’t get sent to Fort Riley very often as it was “On the ass end of nowhere,” according to one of the soldiers you’d inquired about it too. When you’d asked where exactly that was, he’d just laughed and said “Over the blue line,” as he walked away. Thankfully, someone else finally managed to explain what he meant to you a few days later.

According to them, the blue line meant the Mississippi river. East of the river they (Meaning the US government, at least according to the soldiers you were with, apparently there was some conflict upon that point.), held effective control and generally policed the area, past that, not so much. Over the river they held de-facto control over several areas, but couldn’t exercise complete control like in the east. Fort Riley was past that, in a place where the maps were currently labeled “Here be Indians”.

If you remembered anything about Indians, from your past, it was that they rode horses and shot bows and arrows at cowboys, so you think it’s a joke but not much of one. They probably have guns now anyway.

You’ve loaded yourself for the trip, meaning you packed the one extra set of clothes they gave you and managed to get your pistol and knife back from the base armory. There was a little holdup because you had some trouble with the paperwork, but apparently you had been cleared since you were leaving.

As you’re about to climb into the truck you’ve been assigned to, you look up. Towards the front you think you see a familiar face, the sergeant who led the team that rescued you.

>Go say something…probably thanks.

Pausing before you climb in, you decide that you should probably go so thanks or something…supposedly you should talk to people more. You still aren’t sure about that but the sergeant was nice enough when he captured you, he can’t be that bad. Probably.

Walking towards him as he’s pointing several soldiers towards other vehicles in the group you’ll be travelling with, his eyes lock on you as you approach.

“You’re that kid from a few weeks ago, aren’t you?” he asks, “With the dead crazy preacher.”

You’re surprised he remembers you, you aren’t sure you’d remember you if he does that stuff as much as he seems to.

“Yeah,” you say, your voice still relatively quiet from years of not talking very much, “I just saw you and wanted to…say thanks I guess.” You shrug, still not all that great at talking to people.

His face cracks a very small smile as you say that.

“You’re welcome kid,” he says to you, “You going to Fort Riley with us?”

You nod, “The councilor said they found a job out there for me, mercenary work since I don’t have any other skills.”

The sergeant’s grin goes away when you say that, shaking his head.

“Fucking crazy world,” he mutters under his breath, glancing back towards the front as one of the big trucks with a gun mounted on top starts up. Turning back towards you, his face seems more businesslike. “Looks like we’re heading out kid,” he says, “You best get back in your vehicle.”

You nod, turning about until he calls to you.

“Kid,” he says.

“Yeah?” you ask, turning your head back towards him.

“You ever get in trouble, you ask about the post for Sergeant Jones, I’ll see if I can help ya out, you don’t seem to bad.”

“Thanks,” you say, wondering why he cares so much.

Reaching your truck you climb in, nodding at the soldier sitting in the back with you before curling up and trying to get some more sleep. The trucks, all loud and noisy, start moving, you aren’t sure how long it’s going to take you to get there.

Arriving at Fort Riley after a long drive, you aren’t sure exactly how long it was, you climb out of the truck when it comes to a stop. You aren’t sure what it looked like before, but the place you stopped in front of doesn’t look like much of a fort. It looks more like a small town than anything, lots of building clustered around a central area which seems to have more soldiers around.

Climbing down out of the truck, you look about. You don’t see Sergeant Jones and you don’t know anyone else, so that leaves you a little out of options seeing as how you don’t actually know where you’re supposed to go from here, the card doesn’t exactly have an address or map on it.

cool, just trying to get a mental picture of sort of wild west or full blown apocalypse. Do we have regular rags or are we dressed more in a military manner (camouflage bdu, rigging, awesome super cool long/trenchcoat w/ shoulder holster {Miami vice as Fuck}, etc?)
>>
>>37710247
Combo wild west/not quite complete apocalypse, society has managed to hang on mostly/sorta. They can still make guns and trucks apparently.

You are dressed in relatively sterile military style pants and top. One boring holster for your pistol and knife.
>>
>>37710290

>>
>>37710366
Nope. Boring side holster. Shoulder rigs are really only good for people who sit a lot anyway.
>>
>>37710383
True, and relating to this quest holster type is probably irrelevant. While shoulder is a slower more inconvenient draw they are comfy/light as hell if you get a good one.
>>
>>37709408
Right…well, you really don’t want to get lost before you even leave the middle of the fort…town, whatever it is. You were really pretty sure that forts had walls damn it.

Looking about, you see a soldier who looks a little less dirty than the ones you just got off the truck with. He’s probably from around here or at least can point you in the direction of someone who can.

Gathering up your courage, you try to approach him non-threateningly, which is relatively easy since he’s wearing combat gear and carrying a rifle while you have on regular clothes and a pistol.

“Excuse me,” you say as you walk up to him, “Could I ask you where to find somewhere around here?”

The soldier looks at you and gives you a shrug.

“Sure kid,” he says, though he’s probably not a whole lot older than you, “Where are you looking for? The Bar? The Brothel?”

You shake your head, you aren’t even really sure what a brothel is.

“No,” you say, “I’m looking for wherever Morrigan Military Solutions is located.”

The soldier nearly spits when you say that. “Why the hell are you looking for that place kid?” he asks you.

You hold out the card you were given. “Apparently I work there,” you say to him.

The soldier looks at the card like it might bite him. “That way,” he says, pointing across the open area in the middle towards an opening between a solid looking mostly brick building and a dilapidated house, “Go past the market and it’ll be on the other side of the square, just don’t tell them I sent you.”

You nod, wondering why he seems so scared.

“Thanks,” you say to him.

“Kid,” he says, “piece of advice, don’t try hitting on them.”

You nod, turning to head towards the market. Why would you hit them anyway? Aren’t you supposed to work with them?
>>
>>37710499
Striding past the buildings the soldier had pointed at, you see the market area. There are a few stalls and vendors around, some with food, some with guns, a couple with various other things you aren’t sure about. Food and guns have been your life for a while.

Off in the corner, you see a relatively small two story building with a sign on it, two big M’s and an S on it. You guess that’s where you’re supposed to head. You could also check out the market if you wanted, though you’re pretty sure you don’t have anything to trade with.

Based on the way several of the people around you are arguing, having something to buy things with is really important, you aren’t sure what a bushel is, but you hear dollars thrown about as well, you remember them. Don’t have any though. So, you decide to head over to the MMS building first, they’ll probably help you out. Hopefully.

Carefully moving through the strange mass of people that you don’t know, you do your best to not bump into anyone, you still aren’t great with this many people either, seeing as how you previously only really had to keep a couple dozen faces in mind when wandering around the compound.

As you approach the building, you notice a smaller one next to it that seems to be partially attached or at least likely owned by the same people. You hear some sounds coming out of it, but decide that the main one is probably your best bet.

Stepping inside, you see a person at a desk. The woman has long dark hair and is wearing a set of glasses. She looks up from the book she’s reading as you enter.

“Can I help you?” she asks.

“I uhm, think I work here,” you say, holding out the card you were given by your counselor, “the military sent me here. They kinda…rescued me I guess.”

The girl sets her book down and looks at the card.

“That is our card…” she says, looking up at you and examining you, eyes focusing on the relatively new if plain looking outfit that you happen to be wearing, “And you certainly look like one of the new rescues we see around sometimes.”

She leans over to dig in a drawer, coming back up with a really small looking file.

“What’s your name?” she asks you.

“William,” you reply, not quite remembering your second one.

“Well, either you’re a really good liar or you’re our guy,” she says, closing the folder and holding out her hand, “Welcome to Morrigan Military Solutions, you can call me Mary.”

“Nice to meet you,” you say, shaking her hand. You’re pretty sure that’s what you’re supposed to do. You notice her hand doesn’t have any calluses; she probably doesn’t shoot a lot.

“Right,” she says, dropping your hand, “Lets introduce you to the rest of the team.”

Turning around and putting a mildly annoyed look on her face she yells, “Boss! The new guy we got sent by the military is here!”

You hear a thump from upstairs and some foot-steps, a mildly grumpy looking face coming down the stairs, followed by two others.

“What do you mean new guy?” asks the blonde haired woman, apparently the boss, as she comes down the stairs, “And who’s he?”

“He’s the new guy,” says Mary, “The one I told you about two weeks ago when we got that notice from the government.”

“Oh, right,” says the woman, scratching her arm as the two others, one taller and dark haired, the other even shorter than you and with similar blonde hair also come down the stairs to see what’s going on.

“William,” you reply automatically. Of course you have a name, doesn’t everyone?

Apparently this is the wrong answer, as the boss puts her hand over her face and sighs. “Not your name,” she says with a sigh, “What’s your handle? Your nickname?”

You shake your head. Apparently you’re supposed to have more than one name. Who knew.

The boss sighs again.

“Alright,” she says, “Until you earn another one, you’re Billy, understand?”

You nod your head.

“Anyway,” starts the boss, “Get yourself settled in and…”

Mary coughs from where she’s reading her book.

“Oh, right,” says the boss, “I’m Morrigan, this is Nem and that’s Cath,” she says, pointing to herself, the short one and then the tall girl.

Mary smiles a bit and goes back to her book.

“ANYWAY,” she says, shooting a glance at Mary, “As I was saying, go find a place to put your stuff and we can get you kitted out. We’ve got an easy job coming up, I want to see how you do.”

You nod, looking around and then setting your spare roll of clothes on the ground off in a corner before turning and looking at the group.

“Ready,” you say.

Out of the group, Mary looks sad, Morrigan sighs and Nem grins at you. Cath doesn’t seem to do much with that face of hers at all, you can relate.

“What?” you ask them.

“Nevermind…” says Morrigan, “We need to get you kitted up. You wanna use what we got in the back or do you think you want to try the market? They have different stuff, but you can’t be sure of what you’ll get. We can give you some seed money.”

“I can use what you’ve got,” you say to them.

Morrigan lets out a sigh.

“I’m glad you said that,” she says, “I didn’t want to deal with that smug bitch today.”

“Maybe if you were a little less abrasive…” starts Mary.

“It was FIVE fucking dollars!” says Morrigan, as Nem giggles at her, “FIVE dollars and I would’ve gotten the better ammo and it wouldn’t have fucking jammed on me, then I could’ve paid her back!”

“Maybe you shouldn’t have spent that money on smokes then,” says Mary from behind her books.

“Ah shut up,” says Morrigan, gesturing for you to follow her into the back.

“Here we go,” says Morrigan, as you Nem and Cath also follow her into the back, Nem and Cath moving to pick up some stuff that seems to be theirs.

“Pick what you want kid,” she says before moving to her own kit, “Though don’t take too much, this job should be pretty easy and we’ve got a hike to get there.”

Part of me thinks that given our more technically oriented choices earlier a standard kit, with the bandolier and armor, would be best

Having said that I wonder if in our armorer and general battlefield experience would make us adept with the long range kit. Grenades cool but not enough to entice me to close range.

Looking over the decent size pile of gear in front of you, you decide to go with what you know. Well, sort of. The assault rifle you know well, it was one of the few things they let you use with any regularity on a mission. You grab one that looks familiar enough, setting it down and checking it quickly for flaws. You don’t see any. You trade in your old bandolier for the new one, a few extra spots open as you slot your ammo in the various pockets. With the ammo you’re already carrying, that makes about 2 loads of ammo, way more than enough, but you don’t have anything else to put in it so you might as well carry it all.

The armor though, you don’t know how to put on, at least not properly. Settling it over your shoulders, you take a minute trying to get it to fit properly but can’t fit it right. As you work on it, Cath comes over and tugs on your shoulder, causing you to stop. She gestures for you to turn around, which you do, then you feel her tugging on the straps. After she’s done, the armor fits as well as can be expected.

Turning, you see that Morrigan and Cath have similar kits to you, though Cath seems to be carrying a backpack full of extra ammo. Nem is carrying a shotgun and more close range stuff. You grab your rifle, the last done.

“Ready?” asks Morrigan.

You nod.

“Right,” she says, “Let’s go earn some money.”

About half an hour later you find yourself in the middle of a loose formation with the others, walking towards your apparent destination. It’s been quiet, Cath still hasn’t spoken, Nem only giggles occasionally and Morrigan has apparently exhausted her current speaking ability.

As you walk along, most of the surrounding area being a variety of scrub, deserted roads and various houses, you examine your compatriots.

Morrigan is about middle height, a fit and carries her rifle like an extension of herself. The knife on her belt is in an easy to reach position and she’s looking around like she knows what to look for.

Nem is rather short, but not weak looking either. She seems to possess a kind of nervous energy that never seems to run out, though of course you haven’t seen her in action. She seems to be observing the surroundings as well.

Cath is the tallest of the group, even over you. She’s definitely the strongest as well, seeing as how she’s carrying the extra ammo and you can see some definition in her arms.

Cath seems to notice you looking as she’s the one closest to you, but her eyes don’t seem to judge you at all, just nodding as she looks you over in a similar manner.

Morrigan turns and looks back at you when Cath nods.

“You already talking with her?” she asks you.

“I guess?” you say, looking at Cath and then Morrigan. Cath just goes back to looking around.

“Don’t worry, I’ve heard her speak outside of a fight all of a few times,” says Morrigan, “Not fond of talking, almost like you.”

You just shrug again.

“You used a gun like that before?” she asks.

“Yeah,” you say.

“What about the knife?”

“No,” you’ve really only used it to work on wiring or peeling something.

“Heh,” she says, “Looks like you’ve still got some things to learn, Nem could probably teach you best, even if she can’t shoot for as good as me or Cath.”
>>
>>37714365
“Hey!” says Nem, “At least I can handle a grenade without fumbling it all the time!”

“Shuddup,” says Morrigan, “I don’t need to blow someone up if I can shoot them.”

“Can you handle a grenade?” asks Nem, apparently excited.

You just nod.

“Cool!” she says with a grin, “How about fixing stuff, can you do that? Only Cath can do that right now.”

You nod again.

“Awesome, I won’t have to work on my stuff as much!” she says, to which Morrigan chuckles. Cath looks at you and sets a hand on your shoulder in a brief moment of commiseration.

>Info unlocked, Companions.
Cath: F:+4 M:+2 E:+0 P:+4 T:+1 K:+2 S:-5
Morrigan: F:+5 M:+2 E:-1 P:+3 T:-2 K+2 S:-1
Nem: F:+3 M:+3 E:+2 P:+2 T:-2 K:+2 S:-2

After that, silence once again reigns until you make your destination, a farm.

“Stay here,” says Morrigan, handing her rifle to Cath, “I’ve gotta go get the details of the job.”

You nod, Cath and Nem just turning around and watching the surroundings.

Morrigan comes back a few minutes later, grabbing her rifle from Cath.

“Alright,” she says, “Here’s the scoop, standard bandit shit. It’s a small group, not enough to take the farm but enough to annoy the shit out of them and prevent them from getting a good night’s sleep. They want us to take care of them one way or another. We can either go find em and take em out, or we can stay here until tonight and take them out that way.”
She looks over the three of you.

Like I said last thread: William has the means to make things die but not make out. This is perfect for humor.
>>
>>37714628
It was roughly an hour+ walk, the military mostly stays in the fort.
>>
>>37714669
An hour's walk in patrol is pretty much no distance; especially if you're burdened in combat load + rucksack for all the water/misc stuff. You could mortar this place from the fort.
>>
>>37714758
If you had mortars. You aren't that heavily burdened either.

However, nobody said these guys were smart.
>>
>>37714758
The place is a farm house with civilians inside. I'd hazard a guess the military actually gives at least half-a-shit about civvies.
>>
>>37714790
In a loving caring world, yes. In a total shit world where your soldiers lives correspond much more directly to your power/authority and are the most vital step between you and anarchy, well I'm sure they pretend to care about indirectly contributing farmers at least. Also the guys on the ground themselves giving a shit is another level of speculation. Afghan army units usually won't intervene outside their local power base (usually their literal base or tribe) or supporters at all for example, or at least it was like that early 2000's dunno if its much different. Done get me wrong a farm can be valuable, just not enough to do something over I would guess in this setting.
>>
>Bandits
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBhh23-paLU
>>
>>37714790
Well, have to be careful. Attacking the farms could be traps to draw troops out for ambushes on route or an attack on a weakened section. Sending mercs to do this kinda work seems like a better idea when you think about it like that.
>>
>>37714977
>>37714790
That and if mercs usually do the work on the frontier, or if things are handled more locally like earlier America when federal manpower was less(which as a Canadian I admittedly don't know much about), yunno. I could be wrong and this is Guide's setting so...
>>
>>37715014
Good point, though thats probably less of a risk with general banditry as opposed to a focused insurgency. I could be wrong too.
>>
>>37714393
“Where are they?” you automatically ask. That’s your default response to situations dealing with enemies, find, point, kill, simple and easy.

“Another good walk that way, supposedly,” says Morrigan, pointing farther away from the fort, “Nem and me can find them no problem if they’re as sloppy as they sound. I take it you want to go hit them?”

You shrug. “I know how to do that.”

“I don’t like to wait either,” says Morrigan, “Neither does Nem, so let’s go find em.”

You nod, as does Cath. Nem lets out a giggle and grins in a manner that you’d probably find a bit disturbing if you hadn’t seen it so much when you were at the Compound.

Another hour or so finds you in a position overlooking the “Bandits”. They don’t look like much, about eight of them with old looking weapons. Most of them don’t look that good either, skinny like you used to be. One or two look sick. They have a few tents and one box that could possibly hold some loot, if they had any.

“Fuck,” says Morrigan quietly, “These guys looks so pathetic I almost feel sorry for them.”

“They don’t look like much fun,” agrees Nem.

Cath simply remains pointing her weapon at the group, who only has one barely aware scout about twenty yards from the camp.

Morrigan groans, turning to look at you.

“What do you think Billy?”

In response to her question you just shrug. They’re either enemies or not, you know how to deal with enemies. If not…well you’ll probably learn how to deal with people who aren’t enemies but not friends.

“Ah fine then,” says Morrigan, picking up her rifle from where she had laid it on her chest, “Let’s take them out, they might have something good down there, if not, well we’ve still got the payment coming from those farmers.”

Looking over the situation once more, none of the bandits are asleep, though the scout doesn’t seem to be looking about very much.

Alright.

Higher/lower degrees of failure was always going to be a thing, so I'll just try to...up it for the big ones I guess.

You nod at the scout, Nem gives you a grin.

“Come on buddy,” she says quietly, moving down towards the scout.

Following the small girl down the hill, you try to match her steps, not making any noise. Your years of trying to go unnoticed at the Compound unless needed apparently paid off, as both of you make it down without alerting the scout. Nem grins at you as the scout yawns, his eyes half closed and his back to you as he mostly looks at his friends.

“You do it,” she says, pointing to your knife, “The first one’s the hardest but this guy couldn’t make it easier. Sneak up behind him, push his head forward, then cut his throat,” She moves her own knife against her throat lightly with a smile, “Make sure you grab him before he falls though.”

You nod, drawing your own knife and approaching the man like you were before, quietly taking each step. Luckily there isn’t anything for you to step on and the man likely couldn’t spot a charging…charging thing before it was upon him. It’s almost too easy really, the man’s head goes down with an easy push, too surprised to even cry out as your knife bites deep into his neck and slices across, drawing blood and a small hiss of air from his lungs as you hold him up. None of the others seem to be looking either as you carefully set him down on the ground, his eyes fading as he chokes on his own blood. It used to bother you, but watching another man die up close isn’t a whole lot different from a knife than from a gun. As soon as you’ve set the man down and picked up your rifle, you hear bursts, Cath and Morrigan both taking out a bandit with easy shots. The boom of a shotgun off to your side proves that Nem wasn’t just watching you either.

Your rifle comes up, centering on one of the remaining bandits, who is looking around in panic and confusion.

I think auto-fail and auto-success are fine, because they don't have drastic consequences outside of "Yes we accomplish the thing" or "No, we don't do the thing." They allow the success or failure to lead to consequences outside of the roll; not the roll itself spelling achievement or doom.

Your finger doesn’t even hesitate. He’s a target, targets die. It’s that simple. The kick of the rifle against your shoulder is comfortable, familiar. Three rounds fly from the end of your rifle. Three rounds impact his chest, center of mass and he drops, clearly dead. Two more bursts and another boom signal an end to this particular group of bandits.

As you remain looking down your rifle, you wonder why the farmers even needed you for this, it was like shooting a sitting duck. You’ve never seen a duck sit yourself, but anything sitting is probably easy to shoot so you think the statement is accurate.

After a few more seconds, all the bandits remain down and you hear Nem yell, “Clear!”

You lower your rifle, making sure to put it on safe as you do so. You learned that lesson fast, that beating was one you still remember. As Cath and Morrigan come down the hill, Nem is already checking the dead bodies.

You watch as Nem digs through pockets and bandoliers, Morrigan joining in. Cath looks over one, but stops pretty quickly after it’s clear these guys are just as poor as it looks. Morrigan manages to come up with some ammo from one of the guys, bigger than the rest. Nem is the first to approach the box, checking it briefly before opening it.

“Ooh!” she says happily, pulling out a grenade, “Wonder where they got this.”

“Doesn’t matter,” says Morrigan, taking the ammo and handing a bit of it to you and Cath, more than making up for the three rounds you expended, “You’re the one who likes to use the things anyway, you keep it.”

“Awesome!” says Nem, slotting it into her belt.
>Loot: Standard ammo. Tier 1 Grenade x 1.

Morrigan turns to you, as she finishes reloading her weapon.

“So Billy,” she asks you, “How do you feel with your first job done? Think you can do this all the time? Don’t give me any shit either.”

“Targets are targets,” you say standing up from the two bodies that you had checked, they had nothing worth taking, not even ammo.

“Heh, good attitude kid,” says Morrigan, leaning down with a knife to cut off an ear from the big guy as Nem does the same to a few others, “Most of these guys aren’t worth caring about anyway.”

She wipes her hand on the grass as she hands the ear to Nem, who strings them together on a piece of cord.

“Now that we’ve got our proof,” she says, “Let’s go get paid.”

The walk back to the farm is relatively quiet, only a few birds or other critters that you can see. Morrigan once again goes up to the farm without her gun but with the ears, then comes back with the ears and with some green stuff, you’re pretty sure that’s what money looks like.

“Not a big payday,” she says as she stuffs the money in one of her pockets, “But enough to keep us going for a little while.”

You just follow along, not quite sure how all this money stuff works out anyway.

Eventually you make it back to the fort, Cath still not having spoken a word and Morrigan and Nem only talking occasionally, mostly to each other about what they want to do with their money. Morrigan apparently likes to smoke, Nem is saving up for more explosives.

Stepping in the front door, Mary looks up from where she’s apparently still seated at the desk.

“Everything go ok?” she asks.

“Yep,” says Morrigan, fishing out the money and handing it to her, “Easy money, didn’t even use that much ammo.”

“Good,” says Mary, counting the money and then putting it in five separate stacks, “I’d hate for one of you to get hurt again.” Mary hands one of the stacks to Morrigan, then Nem and Catha. She looks at you as you stand there.

“Don’t you want your cut Will?” she asks you.

You look at her, then down to your knife and back up.

“Do I have too?” you ask, slightly confused as to why you would want to cut yourself but willing to go through with it if needed to stay in food and shelter.

“I mean I guess you don’t,” says Mary, “Though I’ll just take it if you don’t want it.”

“…Why do you want to cut yourself?” you ask again, “Knives hurt.” You would know, you’ve got a few scars to prove it.

Mary blinks at you, then her eyes widen. “Not like that!” she says with a bit of surprise, picking up one of the two remaining stacks and holding it out towards you, “I meant do you want your money from the job.”

You take the money more on instinct than anything else, looking down at the pile.

“What do I do with it?” you ask, even as the other three look at you with varying degrees of expressiveness, Catha still blank, Nem grinning and Morrigan once again sighing.

Mary just shakes her head, clearly frustrated. “You buy things with it,” she says, “In the market. Don’t you want anything?”

You shake your head no at first and then stop. “Food?” you ask, realizing that you’re hungry.

Mary shakes her head and holds up the last pile. “That’s what this is for, company’s cut. We’ll feed you basics, you pay for anything extra. That money is yours.”

“Ammo is pay it yourself though,” says Morrigan as she hands off her gear to Catha, Nem already having done the same and scampered upstairs, “Too expensive for us to keep everyone in bullets.”

You nod again, looking down at the money. Food is paid for, buy your own bullets. Doesn’t sound like too big of a deal.

“Anyway,” says Mary, “I’ve put your clothes up in your room, I don’t know where you were before, but we all have our own.”

You blink at her. Your own room? Maybe this mercenary thing isn’t so bad after all. You can probably even buy some blankets so you won’t be so cold.
