You knock on the front door and wait. Eventually it is answered by a stern-looking woman in a grey dress “Ms Hyul” says Ms Carter “I was not expecting you so early, please do come in.” She ushers you into the empty restaurant “I was just doing the accounts, I’m afraid I’m the only one here at the moment, I expect you will want to introduce yourself to the staff, but they will not be here for another couple of hours, how may I assist you?”

You prowl around the building, getting used to the layout, it seems to be just what it was advertised to be: an ordinary restaurant. You don’t find any secret doors, or spy holes.

There is a very nice 3-bedroom apartment on the top floor of the building that’s standing empty, you could move in here quite comfortably.

Eventually you hear noises downstairs that indicate the staff are arriving, you ponder how to approach things, you wonder how much they’ve been told, and who you should speak to first.

When it sounds sufficiently noisy you head downstairs. You can see the staff setting up for the day, firing up the kitchens, getting tables and chairs ready, cleaning.

Your arrival does not go unnoticed, Ms Carter is in the front lobby, directing people and she gives a discrete cough when you enter. Everyone turns to look at you.

“Shee Hyul” says Ms Carter “The new owner.”

“Hello” you say “can I get everyone together, please?”

The chefs are bought out of the kitchen, and everyone just looks at you, you realise you haven’t prepare any remarks.

You keep things short, no sense in rambling on. After you finish there is some polite applause and then Ms Carter dismisses the staff with a wave and a “Hpmh-hm” noise.

As everyone heads back you say quietly to Ms Carter “And I’d like to speak to the followers of the King in a private room upstairs for a few minutes.”

“Of course” she says with a nod “I’ll assemble them in dining room 3.”

“I’ll be up shortly” you say.

You give them time to assemble, pondering what to say or do when you head up. For most of the staff some generic comments are fine, but these are people who already know, or think they know, your secrets, and some of them are criminals, something more may be required. Thankfully, you have two easy to display gifts, evidence of favour of the Five.

Most of the people you are talking to are giving little expression, or are smiling, but not in a way that seems genuine. Well, you’ll have time to get to know them.

Ms Carter is frowning slightly. Maybe professional wasn’t the way to go, time to break out the finale.

You concentrate and wreath of green fire in the shape of leaves and plant-life grows rapidly around your head and you finish with “And speaking of favour, I am favoured by the King of Hell, don’t doubt that.”

Around the room there are a few gasps, and approving nods, and Ms Carter finally stops looking like a disapproving schoolteacher.

“That will be all” you say, and the staff files out.

Ms Carter is the last one to go, as she leaves she turns to you and says quietly “That was a good call with the gift of green fire Ms Hyul, but a word of advice: Followers of the King respect authority, not the light-touch management leadership currently in vogue in business.” And then she turns and leaves.

Sergeant Yonsul takes a seat opposite you and starts taking notes, writing down every scrap of information you can pull out of your memory, until it’s all been said.

“That’s good” she says, a grin on her face “That’s really good, with this, we can really start squeezing a few people, anything else?” she looks at you, hopefully.

“A distant relative left it to me” you say “a surprise, but a welcome one, I’ve not tried the food yet, so I can’t recommend you anything.”

A half-hour later you and Sara are tucking into your starters “This is great shrimp!” says the sergeant, at least, that’s what you think she said around that mouthful she’s chewing on.

“Mmmh-hmm” you agree, your own mouth full as well. Damn, it’s been so long since you had real food, even a simple entree is heaven...

When you have stopped revelling in the taste and the texture of your dish you say to the sergeant “I heard some more about the vampire meeting” you say “As well as maybe a way to find out more.”

“Go on” she says.

“First though” you say “I want to know, why do you get all the *vamp business*?”

Instantly her expression, her whole body language changes, going from relaxed enjoyment to closed, suspicious.

Absorb Spell
You may copy a spell or power that targets you. When you are struck or affected by any supernatural power you may make a Willpower roll and spend 10 psychic energy to absorb it.
You may use an absorbed spell or power once in the encounter, for no extra psychic energy cost.
At the end of the encounter you may permanently absorb the spell or power, at an XP cost, if you do not have sufficient XP the power is lost.
A permanently absorbed power is added to your abilities any may be used at any time, at a variable psychic energy cost.
You must be affected by the power to absorb it, dodging or avoiding it means you cannot absorb it. Resisting it does not prevent you from absorbing it.
Some powers may not be absorbed at QM discretion.
This does not have later levels.

Clouded Reflection
None of your Gifts with obvious physical effects show on your form unless you are using them or wish them to show. This Gift does not have higher ranks, sufficiently powerful magic can pierce this disguise.

Split Self
This works the same as Rainyas Duplication power but the XP costs to gain extra ranks is higher (8XP/rank) and you need to spend Psychic Energy to use it.
Expansions include making a duplicate *permanent* (no PE cost to summon), splitting just your mind (one body with 2 minds: one controls the body whilst the other uses psychic powers or purely mental gifts) and Combining (fusing with another person physically and mentally) to combine your powers and abilities.

I think Absorb Spell is incredibly useful. We are likely to encounter a very large number of effects on later levels when we start fighting big league guys and there are bound to be some useful ones we can't get otherwise. Plus it is always nice to have a variety of different spells so you can't get countered or predictable.
