The ranger walked with careful precision through his footsteps, Max slowly following behind him.


Kensla through his techniques and training and Max through, what he soon realized, his small weight, both sneak very quietly.

'That's the one good thing for a body only comprising of just bones.'

While Max is the supposed Lich Overlord, right now he is in a human disguise, who's stealthy walking around the bandit's fort.

After finally walking around the entire fort, Kensla stops and whispers something to Max's ear.

'Okay, so they have patrols inside and outside the fort. I'm pretty confident in my skills that we won't get caught if we stay out here. But, I'm assuming we need to get inside? I couldn't find any opening, but we can either go through the front door or climb the walls. Any ideas?"

They began to sat down, hiding behind bushes and trees.

Once the words were spoken, Kensla had his eyes closed and began turning invisible in a very slow process.
Before Max was about to say something, he noticed that his body was going through the same process.

Finally opening his eyes, Kensla whispered,"I just casted camoflauge. We won't be seen as well if we don't move as much."

Max, then realized, that maybe magic is a skill very common with all humans, or atleast with adventureres.

Wanting to learn more about different types of spells, Max eagerly listened, but was a bit put off to a change of tone.

The ranger didn't seem like he tried to learn many spells, instead he know only the ones that make his job easier.

Naturally, this was where one should ask more questions or give his/her input, but through Kensla's tone, Max felt as if the topic should be dropped.

It was like after every question Max asked, his new companion was going through more despair.

His face twisted and he grudingly replied,"...My friend... Megalan, she knew the spell Light Teleport," then his head popped up to look at you. "Wait, did you just say 'us'?"

Luckily, breaking Max's screw-up, the pair heard yelling and clattering at the front gate.

Apparently, the Leash spell seems pretty handy. What it does is that it makes a rope using mana as a material.

Through the mana-rope, Kensla climbed easily and pulled Max up, too.

Once as Max got over the walls, 5 bandits noticed the pair.

Instantly, both parties began to get in a battle stance.

"Intruders! We have adventurerers here!"

"What! Deen is already fighting with the Zimbil, though!"

Then the ranger dropped his bow as the bandit finished his sentence.

His teeth started clattering, "T-t-the Z-Zimbil is h-h-here?!"

Kensla dropped to the ground on his butt.

Taking the opportunity of the scared adventurer, the bandits began to rush towards Max.

Seeing how Kensla was out of battle, Max took it for himself to handle these bandits.

Copying the movements of the old woman, Max put his right palm up to the bandits.

"Goddess of Red. Gather my mana to attack. Pierce."

Then, amusingly, 5 orbs flew right off.
That was 3 more than what Hildrith was able to do.

Three bandit got hit around the chest or the stomach and dropped to the ground bleeding.
One bandit's head had a new hole between the eyes.
Only one was able to dodge your attack.

The lone bandit yelled in shock, "Woah, that's new! I never saw someone use 5 Pierce orbs." contrary to his tone, his body seem like he was having fun, however.

But, Max didn't mind the threat as of now. What he was focused on was his spell. Right before he casted Pierce, Max instinctively knew that he was going to send 5 orbs, and the path that the orbs took was exactly how Max imagined them to do. The last one only missed because his concentration was a bit off.

'So is magic only composed of amount of mana, imagination, and concentration?'

Max didn't get another second to think, because the bandit started yelling.

"Dark Duplication!"

The bandit started multiplying now, around 12 clones of the same person, began to circle around Max.

'Well back to fighting. Since I now know imagination is a part of using spells, I'll ...

Max pictured the image in his mind.
A dozen of orbs hurling out of his palm straight to the clones.
The shape, color, and path was picturing inside Max's mind and was almost complete.

However, the bandit gave him no room to think and started dashing with their weapons on up.

'It's now or never.'

"Goddess of Red. Gather my mana to attack," he could just feel an exhausting amount of mana concentrating on him palm. Then with one final word, "Pierce."

The orbs went flying.

Max messed up.

But in a good way.

He shouldn't have really expect much, it was his second attempt and all.

But, mid-way in the spell, Max lost his concentration just a little bit, resulting in a much larger number of orbs.

Around 90 to 100.

The bandit (the other bandit clones just disappeared when hit) was covered in holes, his head and limbs were mostly gone and his chest look like Swiss Cheese. Also, casting the mass numbers of orbs barely even affected Max, unlike long-distance telepathy.


As Max was staring at the body, he realized that these were his first direct kills.

'But, these were bandits and I'm the Overlord. I shouldn't really care.'

Strangely, Max felt very cold listening to his logic.

However, besides his morals, he has a quest to do right now.

Max quickly thought of the path the orbs needs to take.

21 orbs went flying out of his palm and straight to their targets.

However, because of the long chant, the orge-like man went in front of his two companions and shouted.

"Yellow Barrier!"

A yellow colored shade then appeared in front of the Crescent 3 and blocked most of the shots.
But, two of the orbs managed to hit their marks on the big man's leg, but it didn't seem like it did a lot of damage.

Speaking to his big companion, the skinny man stood behind him, "Trux go for the Mage, I'll block the ranger's shot!"

Trux, adding to the orge-appearance, made a furiously yell and began to charge right at Max.

'Like hell, you're going to get me.'

"Goddess of Red. Gather my mana to attack. Pierce."

Kensla also joined in the onslaught and casted two magic of his own. "Green Empower, Green Enhancement."

As Max's orbs went flying, the ranger's arrow followed and turned to the color green and looked much stronger than before.

This time, only half of the arrows turned to ash.

Many of the orbs were ineffective as they hit the yellow-mana-shield, but some managed to hit Trux's limbs, which slowed the big man down for a little bit.
While the arrows pierced right through the barrier and hit the orge directly in the chest.

"Ouuuuch! That hurt me! Trux is hurt!"

However, both attacks seem futile, as the large bandit pulled out the arrows and his wound started to recover.

'Healing magic? Crap, these guys are going to be bothersome.'

The skinny-man started talking once more,"I have to admit, I have never met a mage of your power. If you have known more spells or learn voiceless, like me, then I wouldn't doubt we have been killed easily," he started chuckling,"I guess today is just not your day."

It was good thing Max lost his ability to have a temper, because he was sure he would have been pissed by now.

"Oh? I actually know one more trick in my book."

"Is that so? Then, I urge you to try."

"First off, can I ask something? Why do you speak more refined that your partners."

"I will be glad to tell you after you lose."

Max shrugged,"Fine, looks like you won't be glad, because I'm not going to lose," the Lich closed his eyes and uttered the words for his first spell.

"Dark Fear."

But then, a big meat came out of nowhere.

Big meat used magic.

Very strong magic.

Regeneration is going by very fast.

Zimbil is hungry again.

Max couldn't understand what he was seeing.

Both the bandits immediately started stripping (the skinny one burned off his clothes) and laid face down on the ground.

Kensla backed away cautiously from him and started sweating profusely.

The Overlord could even see the ranger slowly taking off his button for his top-wear.

Confused on what they were doing, Max thought of the most likely explanation.

'Is stripping one's way to show fear? Respect? Apologizing?'

Explaining is easy. We have little magical control and burna lot of ana per spell. That was a fear spell that we usually over charge. We'd do it again but it used up most of our mana.

Max then looked directly at the bare naked men.

"I have found you two worthy to be under my wings. I will now take you under my command, if you dare to refuse, then... well, you don't want to refuse."

Both bandits remained silent, but Max knew they agreed to the new job.

In front of him, laid countless of gold and items.

Kensla looked at you and started looking worried.

"H-hey, uhmm... ya I found some neat things in here. Like right here is the -"

But, then a thought came to the Overlord.

The zombie complied and carried 3 bodies somewhere else.

Once the glutton was out of sight, Max took a deep sigh, even though he can't breathe.

'Monsters are a lot of work...'

Then Poly walked up towards the Lich.

"Overlord, may I have a word? It is not urgent at all, and it might even be a better idea just to leave this place, before more comes."

After gathering the more prominent loot, the Overlord left the big-orge bandit and the Byo to guard the storage room, until he comes back.

Traveling back to the town with the monsters(who were far behind), an ex-bandit, a ranger, and a girl, Max finally received the reward for his quest.

He even left the cut for Hildrith.
"Huh, strange? I think I'm supposed to tell you something? I wonder what that was supposed to be?"

Silly Grandma.

Max said his goodbyes to Kensla, a look of despair appeared in the ranger's face when he left.

Now the party minus the ranger, are standing in the middle of the plains.

The skinny-bandit asked,"W-what are we doing here?"

Max turned around to face him.

"Well, the human world isn't as fun as I thought it would be. True, I did learn some information and that was the whole point, but it just felt kind of boring."

"What are you talking about...?"

Just then, a Golem of Acid came out of hiding.

The ex-bandit quickly to prepare his spells.

But, Max stopped him, "Hey stop. This guy is my minion."

"Y-your minion? But that's an acid golem..."

"Yeah, so?"

While monster taming isn't new, an Acid Golem is one of the few chaotic golems that can't be tamed. That's a well known fact.

To train such a creature, flabbergasted the bandit. "W-who are you?"

Max stared at him, after hearing the question.

"You want to know?" Then slowly, the disguised skin started peeling off. "Well, you'll figure it out sooner or later, anyways."

The Lich stared right at the ex-bandit eyes, almost peering through his soul.

"I'm the Overlord, bitch. And I own you."

The man's scream was cut off from the recall spell.
