Ivy nods, a small grin crossing her face. “Yeah, he suggested I specialize in short swords when I started weapon training. One of the best decisions I ever made. Anyways, what about him?”

”You know his Metagross? Apparently, it constructed a Beldum shell from a bunch of scrapped weapons and downloading parts of its mind into it. First observed Metagross Tree reproduction in a century. Well, I was helping in the Armory as part of assigned duties about five years ago. When she was finished, the Beldum pretty much imprinted on me immediately. She’s… well, really loyal. She practically revolves around me. I named her Cobalt because she’s mostly made from Cobalt steel. Cort was pretty annoyed that all that steel was gone.”

Ivy chuckles. “I doubt you’d really be able to tell the difference between normal Cort and angry Cort.”

You laugh at that. “Yeah, you have to spend a lot of time around him for that.”

“What about Terra and Geist?” Ivy asks.

You scratch the back of your head, tugging on your ponytail a bit. “Well, I actually got Terra a few weeks ago. Some of the Rangers brought back the eggs after finding a nest and a dead mother. Terra’s was the only one that hatched and she took a shine to me.”

“Yeah.” You respond, scratching Terra’s horn. “Too bad they only stay like that for a few months. They really bulk up after the first month and start building Pupitar shells at about six months and then they’re dormant for another six months. The Pupitar stage is why there are so few wild Tyranitars. It’s easy prey for the right predators and some of the Pupitars just die for some reason during the process.”

Ivy frowns, looking at Terra. “I hope she makes it.”

You look down at the infant Larvitar, a slight tightness forming in your chest. “She will. She’s small now, but she’s strong. She’ll make it.”

“How about Geist?”

You give a nervous laugh. “Geist is apparently my oldest and newest Pokemon?”

The Dark-haired Savant raises an eyebrow. “How does that work?”

“Well,” you begin. “He’s apparently been following me ever since my dad died. He mentioned his… funeral.” You’re not too comfortable discussing your father’s death and the circumstances around it. Darius is your closest friend and even he doesn’t know that you buried your father. “I only actually bound him recently.”

“How recently?” Ivy asks.

“About an hour ago.”

The look on Ivy’s face is priceless.

You laugh a little, which snaps Ivy out of her dumbfounded state. She glares at you and pouts a bit. It’s a cute pout, with just the right amount of lower lip.

“Sorry, sorry,” you say as you wave a placating hand.

Her glare abates somewhat and she rolls her eyes. You get the feeling she’s forgiven you.

“Anyways,” you begin. “Did Minerva tell you about the energy transfer thing that happened when we touched?”

Ivy blinks. “Uh, yeah. Said I got a pool of Metal, Water and Earth energies from you and you got some of the Fae essence.”

“Yeah, that’s pretty much what Geist said.” You agree. “This Savant thing is.. weird.”

Ivy snorts. “That’s an understatement. I never thought that I might have a chance at being one of the most powerful trainers in the world.”

“Well, that’s one way of putting it,” You agree once more.

There’s a brief lull in the conversation while the two of you think of new topics.

“So, besides short swords and a penchant for hacking, what are you good at?” You finally ask.

“Oh,” Ivy thinks for a moment. “I’m pretty good with all sciences if you get down to it. Also, as I said before, a great medic. I’ve mostly practiced on cadavers though. And the short sword thing was mostly a last ditch suggestion. I’m honestly not very good with it.”

Ivy shrugs, looking a little uncertain.

“So, besides you, who do you think we should add to our Team?” You continue.

The girl furrows her brows, thinking for a moment. “Well, it’s generally a good idea to spread your proficiencies around but it’s a really good idea to make sure that every member of the team is decent at combat. Medics are pretty great, if I say so myself, since you’re always going to need someone to patch you up. Stealth and Recon specialists are also really helpful. Team Leaders almost always have a tactics specialization, which is good for you.”

She cuts herself off there, blushing slightly. “Eh, I don’t actually know that many people in our class, outside of rumors that is. There’s this one guy, Darius, who’s kinda famous since he’s pretty much beefcake incarnate. I heard he’s a really good fighter though.”
“Yeah, he’s my friend.” First time you’ve heard of this reputation though. You wonder if he knows.

Ivy blushes a bit harder. “Well, then you would know all about that. Other than him, no one else really comes to mind. Major Cyril is going to be our CO, right? Where do you think he’ll take us?”

You give a sheepish grin, “Yeah, didn’t really think that one through. Speaking of terrifying Pokemon, are there any in particular that you want to capture? You know, since we can really... catch and train anything, I guess.”

“Wow, I never really thought about that.” Ivy says as she scratches her forehead. “I’d really like a Wind Pokemon. Something like an Altaria. Yeah, definitely an Altaria, they’re so fluffy. What about you?

We're actually pretty balanced. see how if one of our pokemon has a weakness another in the team could cover for it. So I really don't know.

Never really thought about it, though I guess if we're gonna be working on a team part of it might depend on who else joins. Darius is pretty solid in Fighting and Fire types so he'd make a good tank, someone with a focus on Grass or Flying might help in regards to stealth and recon. If I had to pick, I'd say a Riolu or Tyrunt to help beef up my team in terms of offense, and maybe a Joltik or Heracross for something defensive with good speed to back it up.

Stone and Trade evolutions are essentially non-existent. I've never found a decent reason to include them. I prefer a natural progression in Pokemon Evolution.

After collecting your Pokemon and verifying that Geist and Minerva are okay, you and Ivy begin the walk back to the Academy. It’s mid-afternoon now, and the walkways of the Plateau are getting crowded. The main roadways of the city are clogged with traffic, both mechanical and human. The vast majority of the traffic seems to be incoming from the various gates around the city. Large trucks loaded down with produce and other goods stream in to the warehouses and stores.

The two of you are able to make your way through the streets without any problems at all. Ivy carries the bouquet you got her and a leather satchel filled with books. You walk at her right side, sword and bow on your back and your Pokeballs on your hip. You two manage to make small talk as you walk, asking about small things, like favorite foods, colors, and things like that. It’s a pleasant experience and you’ve never had anything like it.

The guards at the Academy’s main gate let the two of you in as soon as you show your IDs. While the male and female dorms are located right next to each other, they’re arranged with a large copse of trees in between, effectively separating them. You pause at the entrance to the female dorms and Ivy turns to face you.

“Thank You Victor.” She says, a genuine smile lighting up her face. “This means a lot.”
“You’re welcome.” You answer. “I’d like to do this again soon. How’s this Saturday sound?”

“Well, it’s not like I’ll be doing anything important.” She responds, still smiling. “By the way, you should go talk to the Major. He can probably get you out of classes for the rest of the week on Special Forces pretenses.”

Her grin grows wider and her eyes take on a mischievous glint. “After all, there are much better things you can be doing with that time. Like breaking that Iron Knight army out of storage. Or maybe just finding some more team members.”

You return her smile. “I can definitely do both.”

“Oh, I have something to tell you.” Ivy says. “Here, come closer.”

You lean forward, turning your head to the right in order to bring your ear to bear. Ivy leans forward and you feel her breath against your face and then a pair of lips are pressed against your cheek.

Ivy pulls away and smiles again. “See you later Victor.” And runs into her dorm.

You’re frozen, the spot where her lips met your cheek burning.
