"Oh." The Overlord turn to the changeling. "What's that?"

The sudden comment spoken with such a monotone voice from the white glob made Max pause for a bit.

The Poly did not respond to Max's question.

"The clone is trying to kill me because I have gained emotions. I believe that I have gained these emotions after witnessing your actions in the human world. Especially in the case after saving the human girl. Normally, I would have not have done such a thing, but these emotion compelled me to do so."

Max thought to himself, 'Great, saving a little girl gets you killed in Monster Kingdom.'

Max quickly closed his gaping mouth.

Poly hesitated but continued to talk.

"Before, one of past Overlord has issued an order to make sure no monsters have emotions. This Overlord used his magic to create a lock in monster's mind to make sure no emotion can be processed. However, Polys are sometimes able to go around this lock, so there is always a need in killing the Poly with emotion."

Max looked at the little white blob.

"You told me that you killed some Poly's with emotions before." He stared for a short while, before continuing. "Why don't you just kill yourself or something if you fully believe that ?"

Then without responding for a short while, the changeling morphed into a familiar shape.

The new appearance confused Max, but what confused him more was what was on the new being's face.

Poly looked at Max.

"Because, I don't want to die."

For once, Max seen something which he seen countless of times in his old world, Earth.

A human face expressed with sadness.

Max couldn't really understand what just happened.

As soon as Poly gave his confession, a white goop flew that came right behind Max flew right into Poly.

The goop then got sucked inside Poly's human body and he began to squirming in the ground.

"Poly! Hey, what just happened!"

A similar voice, but still new, was heard behind Max.

"I am currently neutralizing this Poly with 9/10 of my body, Overlord."

The Lich turned in surprise from the voice.

In his sight, he saw a new Poly standing right at the entrance of the room.

"Poly stop now!"

"I can't follow that command, Overlord."

"W-what?"

"Let me kill this Poly, if not, then I will have to fight you. And through my analysis, 1/10 of my body will be just enough."

Max was in shock. Never before had any of the monsters got into this much defiance, especially not even something like threatening him.

"Overlord of Max, when Asleit first declared war against the human's nation, many monsters sympathized with the humans. Their emotions blinded them from their goals and led to a inner-war between monsters."
The sudden news dropped at Max.
"This war led to the extinction of 2,487 monster races. The old Overlord has used his magic to stop war between monsters, but of course, Polys are the only beings able to pass this lock."
Max nodded back, he did hear about that.
"But Polys also have the power to make other monsters bypass this lock, too. So the Overlord issued an extinction of all Polys except one, because I was that valuable. Obviously, this situation could have been cleared if the Polys just do not give emotion to others."

The Poly took a step forward, and Max can hear the other Poly still squirming in the floor.

"But, in every single occurrence a Poly gets emotion, they always try to rebel. Always. After the 16th try, I have kept to kill all Poly with emotions to keep Asleit under control.
What I am doing here is to get rid of a problem for all of us monsters, Overlord."

This comes down to how we want to rule. In all likelihood if we give monsters there emotions back a whole host of problems will ensue. We'll see the rise of factions who love is and who hate us.

There is a large chance that many will even begin to sympathize with humans again.
They may even start taking names.

Not because emotions are better than not having emotions; being unconstrained by emotions and using cold logic has been shown to be able to better get things done.

The problem is that the system put in place by the old Overlord must have been flawed somehow; even without emotions and absolute dictatorial powers, the Overlords have always failed to win against the Human Nations.
The emotion lock must be faulty, and therefore needs to be broken before it is re-implemented correctly by us.

We don't have to give all of these monsters their emotions back. We can just let one poly keep its emotions and if other monsters develop emotions, we kill them.
It sucks that all of the abilities of a poly are at least halved, but at least we can use this as a testbed for introducing emotions for the general monster population, have a very convincing human spy for assassinations and ruling behind the curtain, and we will have a poly in our pocket that would be more personable than the emotionless one.

Let's face it, we always want one around us at all times.

We'll need to keep Poly #2 under constant surveillance, to make sure it doesn't give any other monsters the ability to feel without our express permission.

But what happens if both Poly #1 and #2 develop emotions?
If they both feel, and then begin replicating, they could topple us. Their emotions will blind them to the benefits of working under us.

We must develop spells for eliminating Poly, and a way to get around the fact that it can be smarter and faster than us.

Only the violent shaking of the Poly on the floor was the only noise.

Then the emotionless Poly spoke.

Then the cold-Poly goo began to move strangely.

"I am currently changing my innate instincts in order to allow myself rebel against the current Overlord."

Max couldn't believe what he was hearing. This Poly tried to protect Max from a probable-rebellion, but now it's trying to rebel against him.

"Y-you.."

"Overlord of Max. You are not fit to be the ruler of Asleit. I, Poly of White, challenge to take your throne. You have 5 minutes to run before I successfully change my temperament."

First, he grabbed a Spell Book titled, Nova's Light Mana Guide.

'No time to be picky now!' Max quickly skimmed the book for any interesting looking spells.

It was the same hero but this time against a female warrior around the same age as him.

They seem to be facing each other on some courtyard of some kingdom.
A crowd of humans are looking at the two.

The hero started shouting out to her.

The girl didn't respond.

There seems to be a rush of angst in the hero's face.

"I trusted you! I even lov-" Then the hero looked down on the ground.

The girl still didn't say anything.

"Very well. Kyla, if you truly are a Pillar. Then I shall fight you here."

Then another blurry, skip scene.

But before the vision disappeared, Max swore he heard the words coming out of the girl.

"I didn't know it before, but I think I love you too."

Then the vision ended.

It realized that Max wasn't a Lich, but a Human Lich. Then when Max came back and protected a emotion-infected Poly even after being told that an emotional Poly would 100% rebel against the Overlord's control, it felt that Max was incompetent and needs to be removed.

Okay, so here we go.
We were too direct in our new approach to monsters having emotions, and let's say it; a little too emotional.
We just showed the strong Poly the bad part of things, we acted on emotion alone without any practicality (at least not any that could be understood by Poly)
We should have been more subtle. It's Poly(s) decision after all.
It would have been like this
"Poly, stop and listen here for a minute. If you don't like what I have to say you can get back to it."
"I understand the cause for your actions, you have explained to me well, now it's time for you to understand mine as well."
"You already know I am different, right? 300% more effective than any other overlord you say? Why do you think is that?"

Poly #1 would still point out that while the past 16 Overlords failed to defeat the humans, the past 16 Overlords also prevented any further extinctions of monster species and effectively kept the humans at bay.

In fact, #1 would still immediately try to eliminate Max, because Max is still putting the monsters back onto the road of internal conflict and civil wars.
