The world around you is blurry when you wake up. Blinking hard, your vision slowly returns to normal, and you realize that you are in an unfamiliar room, lying in a bed which is not yours. Confused, you try to sit yourself up, only to feel a sharp jolt of pain in your side when you do. You look beneath your covers, and see that your torso is wrapped in bandages. Next to your bed, you see an assortment of salves and tonics sitting on a table to your left. Across the room, you see a set of armor piled neatly in the corner, along with a shield that is covered in scorch marks.

You try to remember how you ended up here, but whatever tonics or healing these people have given you has made your mind somewhat hazy. You concentrate, trying hard to remember. Perhaps you should try starting at the beginning.

You remember that you were born and raised in Morsland, a large trade city in the southern reach of the Kingdom of Iseria. Your father was a blacksmith, as was his father before him. For a while, you worked under your father as an apprentice, under the idea that you would eventually inherit the family business. After a while, however, you decided that the life of a smith was not for you, and so you enlisted in the city guard when you were 18. Though somewhat disappointed, your father respected your decision, and so now it is your sister and her husband who will inherit the workshop. It has been four years since then, and you have proudly served in the city guard ever since.

Good so far, but you feel like there's something you're still forgetting. You feel it is something that should be obvious, but you can't quite put your finger on it. After thinking on it for a bit, it finally occurs to you.

You shake your head. Whatever medicine these people have given you, it must be pretty potent to make you forget your own name.

You set that aside for now. Maybe it will come back to you later, but for now you try to remember what you can. You try to think back to something more recent, the most recent memory you have.

It was early morning, and you had just finished polishing your armor. There was some sort of event happening in the city that day, one that attracted visitors from all across the kingdom. It was...the Festival of Creation, you know that much. But that's something most people would celebrate in the town they lived in, why would it attract so many people to Morsland? Maybe you'll remember it later, but for now you move forward with what you do remember.

After you finished polishing your armor, you donned it and gave yourself a look over in the mirror. Your tabbard, worn over your armor, bears a lion on a red and blue quartered shield, the heraldry of Morsland. You sword, a gift from your father when you completed basic training, is strapped to your belt in it's sheathe. Your brown hair is also combed and neat. Normally you would wear a helm along with your armor, but the guard captain ordered that everyone forgo their helms for today. He was also the reason you were just polishing your armor, as he wanted the city guard to “Look professional and approachable for our guests” or some such. After one last check to make sure you weren't forgetting anything, you stepped out of your house and into the city streets.
>>
>>38251023
You recall that the streets were bustling with activity. The festival, as you remember, was always an active day for the city, but today was busier than ever. Merchants could be heard calling out to those passing by, advertising their wares. You saw performers juggling in the streets for the entertainment of the crowds, who would drop money in a hat for them. Somewhere, you could see a priest standing atop a raised platform, telling the story of Creation to a congregation of people, as was a festival tradition.

You remember that there was some sort of special event scheduled for the afternoon at the city stadium, but you can't remember exactly what it was. All you remember is that a good chunk of the guard was there to keep watch, and that everyone on the guard was expected to be there when the actual event started. You were not on duty quite yet, so you had time to explore before heading to the stadium if you wanted.

You decided to save your coin for later, and just listen in to some of the idle chatter amongst the stalls. In your experience, you can learn interesting things by just listening to the idle chatter of others.

"I came all the way here from Colwich for this!" you hear someone say excitedly.
"My brother's come back from crusade a month ago. He want to try his luck with the sword later today in the ceremony." someone else says. Ceremony? Was there some sort of ceremony going on that day? You can't quite remember yet.
"Wait a minute...Oh Aureus dammit, someone snatched my purse!" you heard one bystander complain. Hold on, did she say her coin purse was snatched? You're not on duty yet, but you are still a guard.

You may not have been on duty, but you were still a guard, so you decided to investigate.

You approached the woman in question, an elf lady wearing a green dress, desperately looking around in case she misplaced her purse by mistake. "Excuse me ma'am, I heard you say your purse was snatched?"

She's caught off guard by your sudden appearance, but she recognizes from your armor that you are a member of the city guard, and relaxes. "Yes, one moment I had my purse on me and everything was fine, but I just reached for it to pay this merchant and it was gone." The merchant in question, an old looking man selling food from his stall, has an impatient look on his face, obviously waiting for her to pay for her goods.

"Where was the last place you still had it?"

"Well, the last place I know I had it was when I stopped to watch the jugglers preform over there." she points to the street performers you saw before. "I dropped some silver for them, and that's the last place I still had my purse."

You remembered from your training that pickpockets often prey on people watching performances such as this, stealing their purses while they are busy watching the performers. You could probably start there.

You decided it would be best to investigate now. It was possible the culprit was actually still there, so you told her to wait there while you go investigate.

There was a decent sized crowd surrounding the jugglers, cheering at their performance. When you arrived, you saw the performers juggling no less than 8 batons, as the people in front tossed in more over time. By the end, they were juggling 20 batons at once, tossing them to each other from all the way across the street. There was a hat full of money sitting there, which people would toss coins into if they enjoyed the performance.

You however, were more interested in searching for the pickpocket, and so you kept your eyes peeled, searching the crowds for any sort of disturbance.

You searched the crowd carefully, with the eyes of an experienced guard. A short distance from you, you saw a man wearing a plain traveler's cloak subtly cut the ties on someone's coin purse, before deftly pocketing it and moving on in one swift, barely recognizable action. He's clearly an experienced pickpocket, so you took a moment to consider how to go about catching him.

The thief suddenly slashed at you with his knife, catching you off guard. You managed to avoid it, but in the process you lost your grip on him, and he made a run for it. In his hurry to escape, however, he drops his ill-gotten goods. Two coin purses, left behind while he pushed and shoved his way through the crowd, escaping from view.

"Dammit!" you swore, as the commotion draws the crowd's attention to you. You thought of chasing after the thief, but you lost him in the crowd after his escape, so it would be difficult to find him. On the bright side, however, he dropped what you were after at least.

You decided it wasn't worth trying to chase him down. After all, you'd gotten what you came for. You made a mental note to keep an eye out for him if you see him around though, maybe even let the other guards know there's a thief on the loose.

You returned the purses to their rightful owners. First the man who just lost his, then the elf in front of the merchant's stall. She was delighted when you found her purse, as was the merchant, who grumbled something about "holding up me business" when she finally handed him the gold she owed.

"Thank you guardsman, I honestly didn't expect to get this back. The name is Thalia, by the way. If you ever get the chance, make sure to stop by my father's apothecary some time, I'll see about getting you a discount as thanks."

Well, with that bit of business handled, you considered what you should do now. You had a little bit of time left before you had to go to the stadium for duty, so you decided to

You decided to head to the stadium early. You'd already spent most of your free time doing guard work anyways, might as well start your shift early while you're at it.

The stadium, a large stone arena near the center of the city, is where Morsland held any special events that would draw a particularly large crowd, such as tourneys or...whatever was happening that day, you still can't quite remember. You remember that when you arrived there, you saw a familiar face standing guard at the entrance, who waved you over when he saw you. You struggle for a moment to remember who the person is, the haze of medicine having cleared up some by now, but still fogging your memory somewhat. After a moment, you finally recall the person's name. Reinhardt, an old friend of yours who went through basic training around the same time you did.

“Well well, look what the cat dragged in.” your old friend said as you approached. “And here I thought I'd die of boredom soon. Got tired of the festival and decided to come be bored with me?”

“Some stuff happened, and I got dragged into guard work early. Figured I might as well come here and see if there was anything I could help with.”

“Well I'm in luck then, I could actually use a partner to guard this entrance to the stadium actually. We had an odd number of guards here and I drew the short stick, so I've been standing here doing absolutely nothing for hours with no one to talk to. Think you could stand on the other side of the entrance with me until the event starts?”

>Sure, I don't have anything better to do.
>Nah, I'd rather not get stuck here just yet.
>You're standing guard Reinhardt, you should focus on that instead of talking with friends.

As you try to remember what happened next, you also decide to try and remember your name again, now that the medicine's haze is starting to lift.

"Sure, I don't have anything better to do."

Reinhardt smiled. “Thanks Siegfried, you're a life saver.”

Siegfried...That's it, now you're starting to remember! Your name is Siegfried Schmidt. The medicinal haze is thinning now, and your memories are starting to come back to you more easily. It's coming back to you slowly but surely, so you press on.

You stood on the opposite side of Reinhardt, and settled in. Every now and then, a priest would head inside or leave to go do something. Curious, you took a peak inside to see how things were coming along.

Inside, you saw a set of stairs leading to a flat raised platform in the center of the stadium, with a pedestal sitting at the top for something. The set up was brought in by someone specifically for the event. On the platform, two people who stood out from the others were watching everyone work, shouting something to one of the priests from time to time. One of them was a bearded old man with white hair, wearing a white cassock with a yellow trim and holding a staff. The other was a woman with long red hair, wearing white plate mail and carrying a greatsword on her back. By the looks of it, they weren't part of the local church or the guard.

Reinhardt noticed your curiosity and spoke. “Those two are the representatives from the White Watchtower. They're here to watch over the Ceremony.”

Ceremony? Didn't you remember hearing someone mention a ceremony earlier? You mull over it for a moment, before finally pulling the memory out from the lingering haze in your mind. The event being hosted was The Ceremony of Galadriel, an event held on the day of the Festival every year. Each time, a different city is chosen to host the event, which is why people were coming from all across the kingdom to attend, and why the guard captain was so intent on the guard looking presentable.
>>
>>38254743
You push your memory further, trying to remember more about the ceremony. It was a religious ceremony held by the White Watchtower, the major temple bordering the Forsaken Lands of Malaphas. Every year, they would bring out the Sword of Galadriel, a weapon that has been wielded by numerous heroes in history, most of whom took part in the Crusade long ago. It was rumored that an angel resided inside the sword, and only someone it deemed worthy could wield it. Thus, every year the Watchtower would take it to the major cities of the world, hoping that someone there would be able to wield it.

You remember that the sword came to Morsland once before when you were a young man still intent on inheriting your father's workshop. You gave the sword a try like everyone else in the stadium back then, but like everyone else it was too heavy for you to lift. You don't think anyone's been able to lift it since the Crusades ended.

“Are they?” you remember asking Reinhardt. “Then they're the ones who'll be bringing in the sword?”

“Yep. And after that they'll give the usual speech about the sword and how it would be a “great honor” to wield it and blah blah blah, no one can actually pick it up and they'll go home disappointed again. Personally, I wouldn't want to carry that thing even if I could. Too much responsibility, and I don't remember any of the stories about people who could carry it ending happily. But then again, that's the same with almost anyone in the old crusades.”

>”You'd make a terrible hero anyways.”
>”Agreed. Being a hero is too much work anyways, and way too risky for my taste.”
>”I dunno, I wouldn't mind doing it, if I could actually pick it up.”
>”I'm content with being a guard here in Morsland. Someone else can go be the big damn hero, I'm busy enough chasing pickpockets here.”

Guard snark
>>
>>38254819
"You'd make a terrible hero anyways."

Reinhardt chuckled. "Probably. But you wouldn't be much better either."

The two of you bantered back and forth for a while, passing the time on a long, boring watch. Nothing of particular note happened after that, and you still hadn't seen that thief from before anywhere. It's possible he's already skipped town by now.

Finallyt, the time of the event arrived, and the crowds started to show up outside the stadium entrances. You couldn't even count all the people piling into the stadium, and for a moment you wonder if there's even enough seats to house them all. Thankfully, the stadium had enough seats to fit everone in, and after a while everyone is in their seats and the ceremony begins.

It goes a lot like the one you remember from your childhood. The priests hush everyone in the stadium, then the priest in the white cassock and the woman in white armor walk in through the east entrance, where you and Reinhardt were standing guard, carrying a fancy golden sword with intricate engravings of angels fighting demons on it's sheath. They were both wearing strange gloves with runes inscribed on them, you remember that the gloves are supposed to be enchanted by the Watchtower to help the representative wearing them to carry the sword when it's time for the ceremony. Even so, the priest and the knight have to carry it over their shoulders, one at the handle, the other at the point of the sheathe, and you can tell even from here that their steps are slow and labored. They carry it up the steps of the central platform, and place it on the pedestal at the top, then turn back to the crowd.

He has a bad habit of drawing the short stick, so he gets stuck with all the worst shifts.

"Nope, that would make our jobs too easy."

"Ha! Now isn't that the truth. I probably wouldn't mind if we got paid by the hour, but you know how that ended the last time I brought it up with the captain."

"If I remember right, it ended with you being literally thrown out of his office."

"Yeah, grouchy old bastard can't take a joke or a suggestion."

You both laughed at the memory of it, before quieting down. A little chatter was fine, but you both knew you were in hot water if the captain got word you were spending more time talking than guarding.

You caught the tail end of the priest's speech, as he started to wrap it up.“-thus Galadriel did bind herself to this sword, and commanded that people be brought forth to her, so she may judge their worth. And so, we of the watchtower have done so ever since, and now we bring her before you all today, so that you may test yourselves, and see if she deems you worthy of the blade which smites demons.”

With the priest in white's speech finished, people began to stand up and were ushered into a line by the other priests to try and lift the sword. You saw that some of the guards were getting in line as well, while their partners covered their posts in their absence.

“If you want to get in line and give it a shot, be my guest. I think I'll just stand here and wait though, we all know how this is going to end, and I don't feel like waiting in a huge line for nothing.”

>”Well, it's worth a shot at least.” Get in line

”Come on, have you ever at least tried? Go on, give it a shot, I'll watch the post.”

Reinhardt groaned in protest. "Do I have to? Come on Sieg, do you see how long that damn line is?"

"Just do it already. Is standing here like a statue going to be any more enjoyable."

"Haaa, fine, I'll go get in line, if only so I can move around a little."

You watched him get in line with the others while you stood at your post and kept watch. It takes a very long time for him to finally get to the front of the line, and you see him climb up the stairs to the sword pedestal. He makes a half-hearted attempt to lift the sword and...nope, nothing. He put a foot on the pedestal to get some more leverage, but still nothing.

The knight says something to him, you imagine it's a few words of condolence, before he walks back over to your post.

"What a shame, no big chosen one adventure for me I guess." He says cheerfully. "Let me just say now, if that thing had actually come off of it's pedestal when I lifted it, the first thing I'd have done is stabbed you with it for getting me caught up in all that bullshit."

>>
>>38255777
"That doesn't sound very heroic. No wonder it didn't choose you."

He chuckled, settling into his post once again. "Yeah, well, I'm not a very heroic guy. I'm just a guard trying to make a living, I wouldn't go join any crusades against the Forsaken Lands even if I did have some magic angel sword to help me. Besides, it's didn't do much for the last few guys it chose."

"Tell me about it. Honestly, I don't know why they expect some random cityfolk to be worthy just because they happened to show up one day. Hell, why not just set it up in the middle of the square and let anyone walking by give it a go? Not like anyone can just run off with it."

"Ha ha! Now there's an idea. Honestly though, from what I hear the only reason they let any old city schmuck try it is because they're getting desperate. I hear they used to hold these big tourneys for it, and the winner would be the only guy who'd get to try and lift the sword. After that turned up nothing, they said "fuck it", and just started bringing whole cities out to give it a shot. Personally, I don't see why they want to find someone who can use it in the first place. Malaphas stopped invading a long time ago, do we really need to go stirring shit up with him again just because the church wants to take back the Forsaken Lands?"

You shrug. It's true, Malaphas gave up on conquering the world a long time ago. He's seemed content to sit in his Forsaken Lands for the past 200 years, who knows why the Watchtower wants to go starting another fight with him over land that's been lost a long time ago?
>>
>>38256158
After a while, everyone has attempted to lift the sword from it's pedestal and, just as Reinhardt predicted, nothing happened. You saw more than one disappointed face head back to their seat that day, and from where you were standing it looked like the white priest and the woman in armor were just as disheartened as they were.

“You'd think after so many years of failure the Watchtower would be used to it by now.” Reinhardt quipped.

After everyone had returned to their seats, the priest in white stood back at the top of the platform and spoke again. “Unfortunately this year Galadriel has chosen no one to wield her. Do not be disheartened by this, for it is a great responsibility to carry Galadriel into battle. There is no shame in not being chosen, it only means that-”

The priest's speech is interrupted by the crack of thunder. Though it used to be a bright, cloudless day, you looked up to see dark clouds swiftly approaching overhead, making the light dim. You saw lightning crack overhead, and the people in the stadium began to chatter nervously, pointing up at the abrupt storm.

“Kind of sudden for a thunderstorm.” Reinhardt said nervously, gripping onto his spear with both hands.

“Agreed, it's way too sudden to be natural...”
You gazed up at the ominous black clouds. Lightning cracked in the air once more, and for a moment, you thought you saw something. Like something was flying amongst the clouds.

You decided that, whatever's going on, it would be best to get the people in the stadium out of here. Even if it was just a normal thunderstorm, they should probably get inside where it's safe.

"I don't like the smell of this. Reinhardt, go and let the other guards know to start evacuating the stadium, I think they should all get indoors just to be safe."

He noded, now completely serious. "You're probably right."

The two of you go into the stands, telling people to calmly and quietly leave the stadium and go back to their homes or whatever inns they were staying in. They looked at you both, confused, but obeyed. The other guards did the same, telling everyone to make their way to the exits.

As the stadium starts to empty out, there is another crack of thunder, louder than before, and a bolt of lightning strikes the ground inside the arena. Those still inside now began to panic and hurriedly make their way outside of the arena.

With everyone evacuated, you and Reinhardt looked back to where the lightning struck. Standing there was an ominous man in black armor, staring directly at the priest and knight. The priest froze up, while the knight drew her greatsword, stepping down from the raised platform.

"Who are you?!" She demanded. The black knight simply stared at her, or rather, -through- her, before turning his attention back to the priest, and the sword on it's pedestal.

"Who the fuck is that?" Reinhardt whispered nervously. You didn't know yourself, but you could tell that whoever he was his intentions were, they were definitely anything but good.

The black knight's back is turned to you. It's likely he hasn't noticed you yet.

>Tell Reinhardt to go get backup, and attack the black knight from behind.

You decide to have Reinhardt go and get backup, while you try and help the priest and the knight deal with the intruder from the sky.

"Look, this guy needs to be distracted until serious backup arrives." you whispered. "I'll distract, you get backup, now MOVE!"

He looked at you, conflicted, before nodding. "Alright, I'll go and get backup. You stay safe while I'm gone though, don't go and get yourself killed doing something stupid while I'm gone." With that, he left, running into the streets toward the guard post.

The black knight is now approaching the pedestal, but the knight with red hair has positioned herself between him and the sword, falling into a stance. "I'll only ask one more time. Who ARE you?!"

The black knight peers at her from beneath his visor, before drawing his own greatsword from his back. "I am Andras, and that sword is rightfully mine. Now step aside or die."

The knight with red hair scowls, and charges towards him. You see this as your chance, and approach the black knight from behind for a sneak attack.

The black knight, Andras, was pushed back by the red haired knight's charge. Her attacks didn't connect, but they managed to keep him on the defense for the time being.

"You are a fool, paladin." He taunts her, voice cold and insulting. "You stand no chance against me alo-"

SHHHR-CRACK!
That was the sound of your sword going in the back of his helm and out between his eyes.

Something about his armor must have been magical, because after your blade stabed through his head, it broke in half, leaving the tip of it planted in his skull. He looked back to you, his bewilderment obvious even behind his helmet, before falling face-first onto the ground.

You stood over him, absolutely stunned that your sneak attack was so effective. The paladin looked even more surprised than you, staring at the black knight with a blade wedged in his skull, then back at you.

"What in the Void was THAT!?" she finally shouted at you, to your surprise.

"Wha-what do you mean what was it? I killed him, didn't I?"

"Here I am, getting ready for the biggest fight of my life, and then suddenly you just come up out of nowhere and stab him in the back of the head! Who even are you?"

"Oh no one, just some random jackass with a sword I suppose."

You paused for reaction. The look on her face just screamed "What the fuck?!", and you had to suppress a chuckle.

"Siegfried Schmidt, city guard. Why are you so upset?"

She lowers her greatsword, tip towards the ground, and puts a hand on her hip."Why am I upset? Gee, maybe because just a moment ago I was ready to fight for my life, and then "some jackass with a sword" comes in and stabs him in the back. I wonder why someone would be upset by that?"

You put your hands up. "I'm just doing my job, don't get mad at me."

She started to complain more about your sudden attack from nowhere, but you didn't pay attention to it. Not because you were tuning her out, but because of what you saw happening behind her.

Andras, with the tip of your broken sword still in his head, was starting to get up.

The angry red-head paladin didn't seem to notice, as she continued to berate you. You consider your options, now that your sword was broken and you had no other weapon. You see the angry paladin is still wearing the gloves she wore for carrying in Galadriel, and for a moment you considered grabbing them and seeing if you could use Galadriel to greater effect. She's was also holding onto her greatsword pretty loosely, you could probably "borrow" her sword for a bit and try to put Andras down for good this time. Or you could always peel out now, you imagined Andras was probably going to be very upset with you, and this lady seemed very ungrateful for your assist earlier.

"Just gonna borrow these real quick." You interrupt, grabbing her hands and pulling off the gloves she's wearing. She call after you when you run off, until she realizes what's going on.

Quickly, you put on the gloves as you climbed up the stairs at a hurried pace. The priest in white is still there, watching you as you climb up the stairs and take a hold of Galadriel's handle.

"Hold on now, what are you-"

"Just need to borrow this for a second sir, don't mind me."

You get a firm grip and pull with all your might and...sweet Aureus in the Void, this thing must weigh several tons! How on earth is ANYONE suppose to pick this damn thing up?

Regardless, you put your foot on the pedestal to try and gain some leverage and, slowly but surely, you lift the sword up. You can barely move with it, and every step feels like it'll crack the stone underneath you, but you lift it.

The knight, for her part, is trying her best to cut the enraged Andras down, but his wounds seem to regenerate immediately after suffering them. He grabs a hold of her arm, and physically tosses her to the side, before turning back to where you are now, struggling not to drop the damn sword on your foot.

He examines you for a second, his glowing red eyes visible from behind his visor. "Do you intend to strike me down with that?" He asks,s pointing to Galadriel. "From the looks of it, you can barely even carry it. Galadriel will not grant you her powers, just carrying her blade does not make you a hero."

>guard named Reinhold
Oh no flashbacks--

OH wait. Reinhardt. not Reinhold.
>>
>>38259300
Everything seemed to move in slow motion as this all happened. First, Andras rushed towards you with his greatsword. Then, you moved just enough to the side to avoid colliding with him, swinging the sword with all your might, slicing his left arm off at the elbow. You remember seeing steam come off of his wound, as he let out a guttural shriek of pain. And finally, just as you thought everything was good and you were in the clear, his greatsword sliced through your armor and cut a huge gash in your stomach.
>>
>>38259741
Hey at least we disarmed him.
>>
>>38259741
Immediately after his sword cuts you, you feel a surge of electricity course through your body, made worse by your metal armor. You screamed, bordering on the edge of consciousness from the pain, and collapsed to the ground, Galadriel landing with a thud beside you.

In your last moments of consciousness, you remember seeing Andras gripping at his arm where you cut it off. He drags himself over to you, greatsword grinding against the stone ground of the arena, before a blast of warm yellow light struck him in the back. You could see out of the corner of your eye that it was the priest in the white robes who did it, holding his staff out towards Andras.

For a moment, it seemed Andras was about to attack him, but then you could hear the sound of metal boots approaching. Seems Reinhardt and his reinforcements finally got here.

Looking to the guards, who are just outside of your vision, you heard Andras curse. "This is not the last that you have seen of me. Mark my words." He looks at you as he says this, before a bolt of lightning strikes the ground where he stood, and he disappeared.

You remember everything starting to go dark, as several people worriedly shouted to you.

"Sieg? SIEG? Aureus dammit, stay with me man, I told you not to go dying on me before I got back!"

"Hey, jackass! Wake up, don't go dying on us after all that, try to stay awake."

"Stand aside you two, I can help him, but we must be swift."

The rest after that is blurry, and beyond that you remember only darkness.

It is difficult, but you manage. All that's left now is to figure out just where you are right now.

>Try to stand. Walk around, see if you can find anyone.

You don't feel confident trying to walk just after you managed to (barely) sit up, so you decide to shout out instead.

"Hello? Anyone got something for this damned pain in my stomach?"

No response for a while, and then people come in through the door opposite your bed. You recognize three of the four. Reinhardt, the only one you know by name, the priest in his white robes and the paladin with red hair and a bad temper, and a short elven man with fiery red hair and beard, peering at you over his glasses. He barely stands up to Reinhardt's elbow, probably the shortest elf you've ever seen. Or human, for that matter. Still not as short as the dwarves though.

"Seems you've recovered just fine." the short elf states, walking up to the table of medicine beside you.

Reinhardt breathes a sigh of relief seeing you awake. "I don't say this often, but thank Aureus. I thought you'd gone and keeled over on us."

"I told you, the man is just fine." The priest says to the red head paladin with a cheerful smile. The paladin, who spent the better part of the battle complaining to you about your sudden and unconventional attack, actually looks a little guilty as she sees you.

As this is all happening, the elf busies himself with the medicine next to your bed, pouring some of the tonic into a small cup. "Before you do anything, you should probably drink this." he says, offering it to you.

"Well, it's good to see I have visitors. I never knew I was so well liked."

Reinhardt chuckles. "You son of a bitch, you get your stomach split open by some asshole in black armor, and the first thing you do when you wake up is start making jokes?"

You shrug. "Have to get my mind of the searing pain in my stomach somehow. Speaking of which." You take the cup of tonic from the short elf man and drink it. You were expecting some terrible bitter taste, but the medicine is...surprisingly sweet, actually.

"That should help you recover a little faster. Just to be safe though, you should probably take it easy for a couple of days. At the least, don't get into another life-or-death fight until you're fully recovered."

You pass the cup back to him, turning your attention to your visitors. "Alright, so maybe one of you guys can fill me in. What happened? Last I remember I cut off that Andras guy's arm and he cut my stomach wide open. For that matter, just who the hell was that guy?"

The priest in white robes strokes his beard thoughtfully. "Well, to answer your first question, I did my best to heal your wounds with my magic, but all I could do was provide some first aid. After that, we had to carry you here to my friend Arniel over there." He points to the short elf who gave you the medicine. "He's an apothecary by trade, so luckily we were able to work together and save your life. You were dire straits for a while though, young man, you're quite lucky to have survived."
>>
>>38260704
"Well that answers my first question then. But what about Andras? Just who in the Void was he?"

The priest's expression darkens for a moment. "That, my friend, was Andras, one of Malaphas's favored generals, and the last man to wield Galadriel."

"Hold up." You stop him. "You're saying that guy used to be a crusader, one of the guys carrying your sacred sword to fight the demons in the Forsaken Lands?"

"'Used' to be, yes. In the end, he turned traitor, and Malaphas turned him into a demon as a reward. Luckily, Galadriel was recovered from him before he was turned, and we have been searching for a champion to wield her ever since. I suppose he thought to swoop in and take Galadriel back by force."

Reinhardt looks at you grimly. "You got dragged into a very dangerous fight, friend. Your lucky to have survived."

>"I wouldn't call having you guts exposed very lucky."

>>
>>38260722
You shrug. "Yeah, I guess so. So what happens now?" You ask. "That Andras guy is probabably going to be pissed that I cut off his arm."

"Well, I and my companion Erika will be staying in town to assist Arniel in helping you recover until you are better for one." He gestures to the knight with the bad temper, who still looks fairly ashamed of what happened earlier. "As for after that? Well, I doubt Andras will return here just to get revenge on one man, but it's not an impossibility. You could always move to another town if you feel unsafe." He smiles. "Of course, there is also another option. You displayed great valor in your battle with Andras, I'm sure the Watchtower would appreciate having a warrior such as yourself join their ranks."

Uh huh. So basically, your choices are to either stay here and hope Andras doesn't decide he want payback for his arm, move to another town, or join the Watchtower and fight more demons.

"You need not come to a decision yet though. There is plenty of time for you to think on it all."

The elf, Arniel, starts packing his tonics and salves into a cabinet under the table they were sitting on. "You should be back to snuff in two, maybe three days if you take it easy." He looks up from the cabinet back at you. "Don't worry about payment either, consider this a thank you for helping my daughter get her purse back."

Purse? Oooohhh, he's talking about that elf you helped out during the festival, Thalia. You'd completely forgotten about that, what with the life and death battle with a demon general.

With his medicines packed away, Arniel stands back up and moves back to the front of your bed with the rest of your visitors. "You should probably try and walk around some if you're able to stand yet. A little exercise should help with your recover, so long as you take it easy."

You take his advice, and try to stand. It takes some concentration, but you manage to get your feet underneath you, and take a few slow steps. "Well, at least I can walk still." you quip.

The priest smacks his fist into his open palm, coming to some realization. "Ah, I'd almost forgotten I have introduced myself yet. I am Daniel, of the White Watchtower, and my companion Erika is a paladin, also of the White Watchtower. Speaking of which, I believe she has something to say to you."

She looks back at Daniel with an expression that says "Wait, me?", before he responds with his own expression that probably means "You know damn well who I mean." She gives in, and looks back to you sheepishly.

"Look, I'm uh, I'm sorry I yelled at you back there. If I had payed better attention, I probably would have noticed Andras getting back up, and this wouldn't have happened to you."

Well what do you know, the lady with a bad temper actually apologized to you for being a bitch earlier. It was a very awkward apology, but it's an apology nonetheless.

>"Don't worry about it. Just pay better attention next time."

"Don't worry about it, just pay better attention next time. For a paladin of the Watchtower though, you have a very short temper, you know that? I suppose it did seem pretty ridiculous from your perspective though."

She sighs, clearly relieved you aren't holding it against her too much, at least. "You have no idea. I suppose I was just sort of shocked when you came out of nowhere and just ended the fight while I was worried about protecting Galadriel and fighting for my life."

"Erika is relatively fresh from initiathood." Daniel offers. "She has much to prove, please do not hold it against her."

You shrug. Actually, speaking of Galadriel, you wonder what happened to it, and whether the arm you cut off of Andras is going to stay off.

"That reminds me, Daniel. Is the arm I cut off of Andras going to stay off? I saw Erika hack him to pieces when he tried to get off, but he just seemed to grow them back. Does Galadriel have some sort of special effect on demons like him?"

He nods. "Galadriel is bound to a powerful angel, it is anathema to demons, and thus it is highly potent against them. Normally, any normal weapon could slay a demon, but when they become particularly powerful, like Andras, it becomes more difficult to slay them. There are ways to do it, but Galadriel is the easiest of them." He frowns. "At least, it would be, if anyone could properly wield it."

"They dragged you and the sword here after you dis-armed that asshole in black." Reinhardt laughs at his own bad pun. "It's still sitting in the other room."
>>
>>38261585
No its not. There have been quite a few good quests where waifu faggotry was either kept out entirely OR not the focus of the quest in any way, shape or form.
>>
>>38261617
You speak with your visitors a little more, before it is time for them all to leave for the day. You follow them into the other room, where Galadriel is still sitting, just as Reinhardt said.

"Now then, we must be off." Daniel says, both him and Erika putting on the gloves they use to carry the sword. "We shall return tomorrow to help with your healing, but for now we must get Galadriel back to the church, until it is time to bring it back to the Watchtower. Until then, take care of yourself Siegfried."

The two of them bend down and grab the sword, one at the handle, one at the tip of the sheathe. They seem to be struggling picking the sword up and over the shoulder like they did before though.

"That's weird." Erika wonders. "Is it just me, or does Galadriel feel heavier than usual.

"Perhaps you are still tired from the battle with Andras." Daniel offers. "Now, lift with your legs, and-"

After they lift it up a few feet, the sword proves too heavy for them, and it falls out of their grasp. Unfortunately, you happened to be standing between them, which means Galadriel is about to crush your foot like an ant under a giant's shoe.

You remember the weight of Galadriel during your fight with Andras, how it felt like you were trying to lift a fat dwarf with bars of iron in his pockets. And that was with the gloves, if it were to fall on your foot, well, you imagine you wouldn't have much of a foot left then.

Time seems to move in slow motion again, like it did during your life-or-death battle with Andras. You shout "NOOOOOOOO" as you reach for Galadriel on instinct, trying to catch it before it crushes your foot.

Just in time, you manage to catch it before it crushes you toes into fine powder. You lift it up, wiping the sweat off your brow in relief. "Man, that was WAY too close."

"..."

Everyone in the room looks at you, completely silent. You look back and forth between the three of them, wondering what's got them so surprised, before it finally hits you.

"What the FUCK?!" you hear both Reinhardt and Erika shout at once, while Daniel has a look on his face like it's the Day of Gifts 7 months early.

"Aw fuck." You swear, realizing what's going on. Quickly, you make a weak attempt to make it look like the sword is still heavy, slowly lowering it back to the ground. "Oh wow, must've been the adrenaline or something, you know, hahaha...ha...Look, can we just pretend this never happened?"

"I'm afraid not." Daniel says with a disturbingly cheery smile.

Erika, on the other hand, looks very unhappy once again. "You just lifted Galadriel, and you want to pretend that-" She groans, pinching the bridge between her nose in frustration. "Aureus in the Void, I swear..."

Reinhardt says nothing, giving you a look that says 'Shit son, I'm glad I'm not in your shoes right now.'

Arniel, in contrast to the rest of them, looks completely indifferent to it all. "Well whatever happens after this, it'll have to wait until tomorrow. Our patient here is very tired, and he needs his rest." He says, ushering them all out the front door.

"Do not fear, Siegfried, when we return tomorrow, we will speak more on what happened." You think to yourself that he looks way too happy about this development, even if he is a priest.

After ushering them all out and closing the door, Arniel looks up at you sympathetically. "Quite the mess you've been dragged into, isn't it young man?"

You hold up the sword, thinking about what's going to happen now that you're stuck with it. "I think I might've preferred my toes getting crushed instead." You complain, looking at your reflection in the sword's shining surface.

Oh yeah, I actually had a question myself for you guys who have more experience with suptg than me. Is there a way to update the archived thread after filling the archive request form, or is it set after you enter the form? I remember reading that you should archive the thread within the hour of posting the thread, but I dunno how to update it.

>>38262188
In all honesty, I seriously did consider it. In the end, I decided to decide depending on what actions you guys took. For example, if Reinhardt had stayed and helped fight Andras, he'd have had a good chance of the sword choosing him as well.

I should probably make a note here though. Just because you can use the sword doesn't mean you're a full blown Chosen One. It just means you've got the tools to stick it to the big bads, but it doesn't guarantee success. See all the other guys before you that tried and failed for reference.

It updates occasionally (but pretty sure not as soon as once every 15 minutes), and you can force it to refresh for new posts by re-archiving the thread.

With the delayed pruning feature that was introduced to the site a little while back the automatic refreshing should almost certainly catch the last posts in the thread since it sticks around for a while instead of actually 404ing.

Not half bad work for a first thread, and I'm glad at least some element of that advice in the qtg turned out to be helpful.

>Is there a way to update the archived thread after filling the archive request form, or is it set after you enter the form? I remember reading that you should archive the thread within the hour of posting the thread, but I dunno how to update it.
Read suptg. It explains it right there.

http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html
>This is my very simple attempt to come up with an archival program. Enter the thread number (/tg/ only) and a brief title and one-sentence description and hit Go!; it'll archive a copy of the page for future lulz. Archived threads are checked every two hours for updates until the thread 404s. (I never thought threads would last over two days but 1614919 proved me very wrong.) To refresh an existing archived thread, simply attempt to add it again, and it will be immediately refreshed.

Re saving manually however is completely obsolete now that threads no longer immediately 404 after falling off page 10. So you never have to.
