You are Siegfried Schmidt, a former guard from the city of Morsland. Due to various circumstances, you have become the temporary wielder of Galadriel, a holy sword which houses a powerful (and kind of rude) angel.

After arriving at the Watchtower, the knight-captain managed to talk you into joining the patrols along the border to the Forsaken Lands, on the condition that he give you a month to train and get prepared first. Now you are touring the fortress with Erika before dinner, where the knight-captain is going to announce to the whole tower that Galadriel has chosen a new (temporary) champion.

>I heard there was someone to talk to of you wanted to get drunk..

"I heard there was someone to talk to if you wanted to get drunk. Where would he be?"

"Oh, you mean Gunther?" Erika asks. "He's the head cook here, so he'll probably be in the kitchens."

"Okay then, let's head there then."

She nods. "Alright, it's right this way."

You follow her down the stairs again, this time to the ground floor. A large crowd of people are starting to gather here as well, presumably for dinner. They all file into a large set of oak double doors, while you and Erika go a little bit further, entering the door down the hall a ways.

Inside, the smell of food wafts through the air, as people shuffle too and fro, gathering the food to go set the tables in the dining hall. You and Erika maneuver past them all, to a stout dwarf with black hair and a long beard, both currently covered in a net, directing the others around. Despite being a cook, he still has a large warhammer sitting holstered on his belt, something you notice all the other cooks are doing as well.

"Take that plate out to the tables. Jorrick, take that bread out of the oven already. Edmund, take that damn ham back on the stove, it's practically raw for Aureus' sake!"

The two of you approach him, and when he notices you approaching he turns to face you.

"Ah, Erika! Back from your trip I see. And there's a new face here too, are you a new recruit or somethin'?"

>"In a way, yes. We just got back from Morsland, so I was hoping to grab something quick to eat and head to bed early. Do you mind?"
>"Sort of. Erika told me a lot about you though in Morsland though. She said you were the one to talk to about booze here."
>"Kind of, yeah. Do you have a moment? I'd like to ask you a few things when you get the chance."

"Aha, I see." He nods. "Aye, I'm the man you want to speak to about booze. Used to own a tavern up north before I came down here. I'm a bit busy right now though, as you can see. If it's just a quick gulp of ale you're after, look over there." He points over to a large barrel with a spigot, sitting in a corner. "Consider it my treat, as a warm welcome to the tower after a long trip."

>"Alright then, thanks." Go grab a mug to drink.
>"Actually, I was wondering if I could get some for Erika too, if that's not asking too much."
>"Thank you Gunther. If it's alright, can I grab some ham or something too while I'm at it? It's been a long journey, so I just want something to eat and drink real quick before getting some sleep."

"Actually, I was wondering if I could get some for Erika too, if that's not asking too much."

Gunther's eyes go wide when you mention Erika drinking. "No, nononononono, that's a bad idea friend. I don't know if you've ever seen her drink before, but she's not very, er, 'bottle savvy' if you understand. The last time she got a hold of my booze, it didn't go so well."

"Right, about that. I've actually been drinking with her before, on my last day back in Morsland. I actually tried teaching her the proper way to drink, and I'd say she's learning fast."

He looks genuinely surprised. "Did you now? No broken bottles? No smashed windows? Not even a drunken brawl from her?"

"Uh...no, none of those." You tell him. Just what did Erika do the last time she drank that's gotten Gunther so worked up?

He looks over to Erika. "Is that true lass? Can you...remember anything from then?"

"It is." She says, grinning with what looks like a bit of pride. "It was at a tavern. At first I just drank the ale I had as quickly as I could like last time, but then he stopped me and told me to slow down. The next morning my head didn't hurt as bad as last time, and I could actually remember what happened." The more and more you listen to this conversation, the more you wonder just how clueless about booze Erika must have been before.

"Well then color me impressed, friend. You're probably the first person I've seen drink with Erika and not have a broken jaw come morning." He says. "I'll tell you what then. Normally I'd refuse to let Erika anywhere close to the ale barrels, but since you've gone and taken it upon yourself to teach our fiery friend here some bottle manners, I'll make an exception. And hell, while I'm at it, take this too."
>>
>>38416076
He shouts to one of the nearby cooks and tells them to bring something over. The cook comes back a moment later with a small barrel and two mugs.

"Here you are, a small keg of ale for the both of you to share. Dinner will be soon, so you'll probably want to hold off on the ale until later. Course, I could have one of the others bring the two of you something to eat if you'd like. I'm sure the knight-captain wouldn't mind, considering you're doing the whole tower a service here."

>"Doing the tower a service? Just what in the Void happened that's made you so jumpy about Erika and booze?"
>"Thanks a lot Gunther, I think we'll just go to dinner and wait until later to open up the keg though."

"Doing the tower a service? Just what in the Void happened that's made you so jumpy about Erika and booze."

"Well a few things, actually. Like the day she completed her initiathood, after the ceremony when everybody was celebrating. Some poor fool offered her some mead, and a few empty mugs later there were chairs flying around and grown men nursing their jaws under the tables."

"That was one time!" Erika says defensively. "And I don't even remember doing it."

"Oh yeah, one time." Gunther says dryly. "And then there was also that time one of the younger lads here thought himself a bit of a charmer and thought to get her drunk. Fool was expecting a good time, and got a broken jaw for his troubles."

"I don't even remember that, what are you talking about?"

"Or the time when she was a wee lass and somehow got into the wine the captain had set aside for a ceremony and-"

"Alright, alright, that's enough." Erika says, cutting him off."

"So as you can see, new friend, Erika's had a bit of a bloody history with ale."

Huh. You're starting to wonder if maybe taking it upon yourself to teach her the proper way to drink was a bad decision.
>>
>>38416355
"In any case," you say, shaking that thought off. "Thanks for the keg, but I think we'll wait until after dinner to go open it up. I think the knight-captain actually wants me to be there today."

"Ah, I see then. Alright, we'll hang on to your keg here while you go eat then. Just drop by and pick it up when you're ready."

"Will do, thanks Gunther."

"Any time lad. Oh! Before you go, mind telling me your name?"

"Siegfried Schmidt." you tell him.

"Schmidt eh? Alright then, off with you then. Make sure you pop in for a visit from time to time, I want to hear how Erika's doing from time to time."

The two of you leave the kitchen, and you can see that the line of people heading inside is starting to die down some. Dinner must be starting soon.

>"Come on, let's see if we can find Daniel in the dining hall.
>"Ugh, not looking forward to the knight captain's announcement. Come on, let's find a seat while there's still space."

She sighs. "Gunther's exaggerating. I didn't actually break anyone jaw, and I never broke any windows."

"Really?"

"Yeah...I think. Like I said, I don't remember much after maybe the first mug or two."

Yup, definitely starting to regret your decision now. Oh well, in for a copper in for a gold you suppose.

"That's not exactly reassuring, you know."

"Shut up." she says.

You shrug. "Whatever. That's what I'm here for I guess."

"What, not protecting the sword?"

"Oh shit, that reminds me. I'm really nor looking forward to the knight captain's announcement. How big do you think the reaction will be?"

"Well gee, I don't know. How do you think a tower full of people dedicated to combating demons is going to react when their captain announces that after a 200 year wait, someone's finally managed to pick up the sword and that another crusade might be on the horizon?"

You groan. "Damn, this is going to suck. Come on, let's just find a seat while there's still space."

The two of you join the line of people entering the dining hall, and after a while you find yourself in a large room with long tables as far as the eye can see. The cooks from the kitchen are coming in now from a side door connecting the kitchens to the dining hall, carrying trays of food and laying them down on the tables. It takes you a while, but you manage to find a seat where the two of you can sit together.

Food of all sorts sits in front of you, as well as goblets of wine. Not the sort you'd drink in a tavern, but the watered down sort that people drink with meals. You grab some stuff that catches your eye and place it on the plate in front of you, eating your fill.

Besides, from the sound of it you'd assume getting drunk in the middle of a meal, particularly when the knight-captain is expected to give some sort of announcement, is probably frowned upon.

You say nothing, focusing instead on eating the food in front of you. Erika does the same, apparently you're not the only one who was starving.

After a while, however, you see the knight-captain make his way to a raised platform at the end of the room. Oh great, looks like he's about to make his announcement. For a moment, you consider slipping out while you still can, but decide against it.

Everyone gets quiet when the knight-captain steps up to the platform. He looks out over the crowd, and begins to make his announcement.

"Ladies and gentlemen of the White Watchtower." he begins. For an old man, he has a pretty commanding voice. "I have important news for all of you this evening. The first of which, is that while our comrades, Daniel and Erika, were in Morsland on the Festival of Creation, they were attacked by Andras."

The crowd begins to murmur. It seems everybody here recognizes that name.

"However." he continues. "Thanks to Erika and Daniel, as well as a new brave soul with us today, they were able to not only repel him, but injure him." More murmuring, which quickly dies down as he continues. "Some of you may be wondering how such a thing could be done. Well, that is my second announcement. Because of the direness of the situation, it seems that Galadriel has chosen a temporary champion to protect her, until a permanent champion can be found."

Immediately, the dining hall explodes into chatter. You hear people sitting next to you ponder who the new champion is, and mentally you groan, not looking forward to the spotlight that's about to be put on you.
>>
>>38417216
"Though he is only a temporary champion, this is the first time Galadriel has chosen someone to wield her in two hundred years. Temporary or no, this is a huge step in the right direction. And it is my honest belief that, given time, her new champion will prove himself, and perhaps in time he will become a permanent champion. But he has much to learn before then, and we have much to teach."

From the way he's phrasing it, he makes it sound as though you actually want to become a permanent champion for Galadriel. You can certainly tell that's what he's hoping for., at least

"So, without further ado, I present to you Galadriel's new champion." He finds you in the crowd, and points to you. "Siegfried Schmidt. May Galadriel watch over him and help him to bear his new responsibilities as temporary champion."

Shit, now they're all staring at you. It looks like they're expecting you to say something.

>"Uh...hi?"
>"Thank you for the introduction captain. I'll do my best to live up to everyone's expectations."
>"Wait, am I suppose to give some kind of a speech now? Shit, no one told me."

You mutter under your breath. "Wait, am I supposed to give some kind of speech now? Shit, no one told me."

They all continue to stare at you. Erika is watching with an amused smile. Well hell, she's laughed at you once today, damned if you're going to give her another opportunity to laugh at you.

You shift Galadriel back into it's normal form, eliciting a few gasps from the crowd, and clear your throat, trying to think of something to say as you go. "Uh, hello everyone, I'm the jackass with the holy sword who happened to be at the right place at the right time, so to speak."

The people in the crowd chuckle. Alright, well that's a good start.

"Thank you for the introduction captain, I'll do my best to live up to everyone's expectations."

The captain nods. "I'm sure you will, young one. Take a seat."

'Don't mind if I do' you think to yourself as you sit back down. Everyone's gaze returns to the captain who continues to tell them you'll be training for the next month, before joining them on their patrols, etc. Nothing else of real importance is said, and everyone goes back to their meals, though now the dining hall is much more lively than before. Most of the chatter you overhear is about you and the sword.

Erika smirks. "Nice save. For a moment, I thought you were going to just stand there like an idiot."

>"Almost did. You'd think the captain could have at least given me some warning in advance."

The room itself looks as though it hasn't seen use in a long time. Dust coats the chairs here, and you see cobwebs in the corners of the roof. The view by contrast is actually really nice. From the windows, you can see over the forest, and even a ways out to the Forsaken Lands. You have a good view of the moon and the night sky as well.

"What is this room?" You ask, wiping the dust off of one of the chairs and setting the keg down on it.

"Just a storage room the tower doesn't use that often." she says, pulling up a seat and handing you a mug. "It's kind of dusty, but people don't come here very often and the view is really nice."

You pull up a chair yourself and fill your mug with ale. Erika does the same. You take a sip of the ale. It's really good, Gunther must really know his liquor. Erika also takes a sip from her mug, this time slowly, not chugging it down like the first time you drank together. She really is learning, that's good at least.

"So how do you know about this place?" you ask her. "Is this like your hideout or something."

She nods. "It was, yeah. When I was a kid, I'd come her to see the view from time to time. The instructor never looked here too, so I'd hide here when I didn't feel like going to basic magic training.

"When you were a kid?" you ask. "Just how young were you when you came here?"

She gets quiet for a moment. After a while however, she takes another sip from her mug. "Well, I told you why I joined last time. I guess now I'll tell you how." She leans forward, filling her mug up again, and you do the same.

"Alright, well, remember when I told you I was wondering too close to the border when I was 8, and how Daniel saved me when I got picked up by a demon?"

You nod. "Yeah, I remember. I asked you why you were so close to the border in the first place, and you said maybe some other time."

She nods. "Right. Well, the reason was because I was running from home."

You raise an eyebrow. "Running from home at 8? And running to the border, no less? Must have had a hell of a reason to leave."

She nods."I didn't mean to go to the border, I just got lost and ended up there. As for why I was running, well, it was because my family and I never really saw eye to eye. For that matter, most people didn't see eye to eye with me there."

"Why's that?"

She pauses. "You ever heard of a noble family named Bernadotte? Live northeast of Morsland, about two days north of here?"
>>
>>38418415
You nod. "I've heard about them in passing before, most of it complaints from travelers. They control one of the baronies in Iseria, don't they?"

She nods. "Right, them. Well, the truth is that I'm actually from that family."

Now that catches your attention. "You're a Bernadotte?" you ask, surprised.

She shakes her head. "No, I said I was from that family, I didn't say I was one. My father was the ruling lord there. My mother was one of the servants."

Oh. You see where this is going.

"So you were a bastard then?"

She nods. "Mm hm. Born and raised in their castle. Since I was still related to the ruling lord, they wanted to keep me around so they could keep their eyes on me, make sure I didn't embarrass them or press a claim. They didn't like me though, not one bit, especially not my father's wife."

"So that's why you ran?"

"Yep. One day, after a big fight with them, I decided anywhere was better than there, so I ran away. Couldn't stay in town because I knew even then they'd find me sooner or later, so I skipped town. That's when I got too close to the border, and when Daniel found me by chance."

"Okay. What happened after that?"

"Well, I told Daniel everything. Told him I ran away, told him why I didn't want to go back, so he took me back to the tower. He talked to the captain, and they let e stay. I grew up here, watching the others train and go out on patrol, so when I grew up I decided I wanted to be like them."

>"So then that's why you look up to them so much."
>"Did you ever head back to your old home? Do they even know where you are?"
>"Shit, that really sucks. At least it sounds like things were better for you here, Daniel does strike me as the grandfatherly type."
>"So you grew up here in the tower. That explains why you said you'd never been to a tavern before."

"Shit, that really sucks. I can't imagine what that's like, but thanks for confiding in me Erika, it means a lot."

She smiles. "Don't worry about it. Thank you for listening to me drone on."

You shake your head. "It's no problem. That really explains why you look up to the crusaders though."

She nods. "Yup. Grew up around them most of my life, some of the people here are like family to me. Daniel especially."

"At least it sounds like things were better for you here. Daniel really does strike me as the grandfatherly type."

She laughs. "He does, doesn't he? He;s always been like that, even when he was younger from what I hear."

The two of you continue drinking and chatting, enjoying the view outside. After a while, Erika asks you something.

"Hey Siegfried, I wanted to ask you something. Why did you become a guard? From what I've seen, you don't really seem like the type of person who would want a job like that."

>"Never really liked the idea of being a smith like my dad, and my sister's husband was the guard captain's son, so I just sort of went with it. Seemed better than hammering iron all day."
>"A sense of duty and justice, as cheesy as that sounds. I know I complain a lot about getting dragged into all this, but it isn't all that bad I suppose. The cause is worthy at least, though I'm not sure throwing more lives at the problem hoping it'll solve it is such a great idea."
>"Because Reinhardt was enlisting. I didn't really want to be a smith at that point anyways, so I joined too so we could watch each others backs."
>"Don't have a specific reason, really. Didn't want to be a smith, the job seemed exciting and the pay was okay, so I just went with it."

Let's be honest here and tell her about our family a bit. She'd fit right in.
>>

"Never really liked the idea of being a smith like my dad, and my sister's husband was the guard captain's son, so I just sort of went with it. Seemed better than hammering iron all day."

"Huh, I see. How did your father react when you became a guard instead?"

"He was kind of disappointed. Can't blame him honestly, he put a lot of time and effort into teaching me the craft, expecting me to inherit the workshop. But he supported my decision. Said that everyone has to decide for themselves what they want to do with their life, and that he'd stand by my decision no matter what."

Erika listens to you intently. "Your father sounds like a good man."

You nod. "He was. Maybe the next time we're in Morsland you should come with me to visit them."

She thinks on that for a moment. "I think I'd like that." She says.

You chat and drink together a while longer, then after a while you realize it's getting late, and you should head to bed. You leave the now empty keg where it is, and both of you head back downstairs.

"It was good talking to you Siegfried. Sorry you had to listen to me drone on back there."

You shake your head. "Like I said, don't worry about it. I'm glad you confided in me, that means a lot."

She nods. "Thanks. You know, back when we first met, back when you attacked Andras from behind and picked up Galadriel on accident, I kind of thought you were a pain in the ass, to be honest." she admits. "But you know, you're actually alright. I'm glad the sword chose you."

"Well that makes one of us." you joke. "I get what you mean though. Back at the arena I thought you were some sort of crazy psycho bitch with a bad temper. Now I know you just have a bad temper."

She laughs. "Whatever. You should probably go get some rest now. Training starts tomorrow, and they're probably not going to go easy on you just because it's you're first day."

You nod. "Sounds like basic training all over again. Well, take care Erika. Try not to break somebody's jaw on the way back to your room."

:Ha ha, very funny. Night."

The two of you go your separate ways, and you crawl into bed in your new room. There's a lot ahead of you now that you're at the watchtower, but at least now you have a friend here to help you get through.

Elsewhere, a man in black armor walks with purpose down a dark stone corridor. His arm, cut off at the elbow, hangs uselessly at his side. At the end of the corridor, he throws open the double stone doors to a sinister throne room. He approaches the figure sitting on the throne and kneels in the center of the room.

"Report." The figure on the throne commands.

"My lord, the spies have sent word to us. It is as we suspected, Galadriel has chosen a new champion."

"Who is this new champion you speak of?"

"They say his name is Siegfried Schmidt, a nobody hailing from the human town of Morsland. They say he claims to only be a temporary champion, however, and that he has not yet fully unlocked Galadriel's full power."

"Then he is but another maggot, to be crushed under our boots."

"Yes sir. If you would allow me, I would go and kill him before he can become a proble-"

"No."

The one armed man looks up at the seated figure. "But my lord, though he is weak now, in time he may-"

"I am not a fool, Andras. I have not lived this many years by being careless. I will have the spies kill him while he is still inexperienced, but you will not go."

"My lord, I"

"Silence!" the figure commands. His voice shakes the roof of his grand throne room with it's force. "You have already humiliated yourself and by extension me the last time you faced him. You will sit here and wait for news of his death, as I have commanded."

Andras' face is unreadable with his helmet on, but beneath it he clenches his teeth in outrage.

"Understood."

"Good." the figure muses. "Then send word to the spies that I want him dead within the month. I shall make sure he is stomped out now, before he can become a problem."

Calling it a night here now guys. I'll stick around to answer questions as usual, and next thread will be either Saturday or Sunday, probably Saturday. I might run tomorrow if I'm feeling up to it, we'll see. Keep an eye on the twitter as always, hope you all had fun.

Thanks for running OP, sweet thread. What is your twitter feed again? I forgot to save it the last time you posted it.

Well seems like we're in for a lot of trouble.
Erika will end up as our waifu or bro tier friend.

>>38419086
>>38419096
>>38419102
does this mean we'll come across some lewd acts with Erika?
>>
>>38419118
She's a pure girl.
We have to treat her like a little sister since that seems to work.
>>
>>38419118
Considering the last man who tried got his jaw broken like wishbone, I doubt it.
>>
>>38419078
Maybe
>>38419095
Twitter's in the OP
>>38419118
If that's what you guys want to do, maybe. Expect fade to black should that happen.

I find it funny how you guys seemed to hate Erika at first, and now you guys think she's bro tier. Means I've accomplished everything I set out to do with her character.
>>
>>38419151
because he just tried to get her drunk and get into her pants, instead of being a bro with her and teaching her how to drink properly

>>38419131
nah, we treat her like the friend she is growing to be
>>
>>38419118
Only if she initiates it or has another girl teach her to.
>>
>>38419078
>>38419086

So, uhh
>near Morsland
>at least a day away from the border

damn, Erika sure knew how to run away.
>>
>>38419175
awesome, it'd be nice to have a waifu, someone to really fight for.

>>38419189
but anon, she's already super cool, it doesn't nee to be all lovey and shit, just really great friends who love each other.
>>
>>38419205
I for one would like to hold out until we see some other female characters. I know tg tends to waifu the first significant female character introduced in a quest, but I like the idea of Erika being our stalwart bro (who happens to be a chick).
>>
>>38419234
fair enough, I'm not opposed to it, but Erika does seem pretty cool. That does mean OP has to introduce us to more female characters.
>>
>>38419234
>but I like the idea of Erika being our stalwart bro (who happens to be a chick).
I too like this, and if things develop between them romantically, then all the better, being bro's and in wuvs makes it that much stronger
>>
>>38419189
>damn, Erika sure knew how to run away.
She ran for a pretty long time. Keep in mind though, at some point she got picked up by a demon who then flew back towards the border, and Daniel was on patrol so he wasn't exactly within sight of the tower.
>>38419189
>cliche
To be fair, the whole damn quest is kind of cliche.
>>38419244
>That does mean OP has to introduce us to more female characters.
I'm going to, it's just that so far you guys haven't really had much chance to get out and meet more people.
>>
>wind up in bed with Erika and Galadriel
>neither of them have any idea what to do
>end up just cuddling
>never fuck anyone because they're always too pure
>>
>>38419353
Nah we'd bone them eventually, but only when we get their trust and they feel safe being that vulnerable with us.
>>
>>38419331
I think Erika will just end up being our pure childish friend who happens to be female.

It's better to treat her like we are her older protective brother or straight out battle bro who teaches her some common sense.
>>
>>38419416
>or straight out battle bro who teaches her some common sense.
This is the better one, and currently what we're doing. If romance develops between them then good for them.
