Roaring, you and Tatsuya charge forward the center of the battleground, and attack. You with your sword, and Tatsuya with his right fist. The two objects collide, and the very air vibrates with the sheer force. You see that Tatsuya’s fists are hardened, the skin covered with the essence of Ouroboros. This was his unarmed reinforcement, a power of his that transformed his hands into deadly killing tools, rivalling bullets and blades. It was how he fought. The way you were now, a single strike could crack your bones, and that would be disastrous.

You strike again, one-handed, and Tatsuya thrusts his left fist forward. A collision is met, again. You slash, and Tatsuya punches with his right. Sparks fly between the two of you, and Gray Soul shrieks with relish.

It continues. In the center, above the image of Ouroboros’s torso, sword hits fist and the connection is met, again and again. Neither of you are using your full power. Both of you are testing the waters, trying to see where the river of battle will flow.

You grip Gray Soul in both hands, preparing for a focused attack. At the same time, Tatsuya gathers more essence in his right fist and holds it back. You glare at your best friend, and he returns the favor. A second passes, then both of you rush forward, unable to hold back any longer. The strikes clash, and this time an entire firework’s worth of sparks burst out. You try and hold Gray Soul against the raging force of Tatsuya’s fist, your blade straining with the effort. The feeling is mutual on the other end.

Eventually, neither of you can hold out for any longer. The collision between you two explodes outward, forcing both of you onto opposite ends of the arena. You growl and stand up straight. Gray Soul is unharmed, but then again so is Tatsuya. Not a single cut is present on his hardened fist.

You do know this: the Reality Marble is designed to slowly leak Ouroboros’s power to Tatsuya, like a steadily flowing stream of water descending from a tap. The longer you stayed here, the harder the fight would become. This was how Tatsuya had beaten Azazel. After sucking him in, Tatsuya basically dodged around the Dark Lord’s attacks for ten minutes, evading until the Reality Marble increased his magic and strength to A++ levels. He then used to remaining five to pummel the bastard into the ground to the point of near death. One deactivation and a finisher later, the Dark Lord was dead.

You grit your teeth at the thought of it. Stalling for time will not work here. Tatsuya has far more magical potential than you. If you drag this out for too long, victory will become impossible. You will have to end this fight, and you will have to do it fast.

You will Gray Soul to collapse downwards. It obeys without hesitation. The steel compresses and folds, transforming the standard short sword into a katana of precision and agility. You grip it with both hands, and steel yourself for what will come next.

Then you delve deep into your mind, and draw out the essence of your blade. Gray Soul is lurking in the back of your head, struggling and straining against the chains you tied it down with. At the last moment, Tatsuya brings both his arms up in a cross position, and forces as much as Ouroboros’s essence into them to guard. It doesn’t work. You easily slice through the hardening, shattering the makeshift armor and cut the sides of his arms.

First blood is yours. The cut is shallow, and the redness is dim, but it counts. Tatsuya is not fazed, as expected of a world-saving hero. The only sign of discomfort he makes is a tightening in the corner of his mouth. He launches an assault of rapid punches and strikes in your direction. You block and deflect them, but note that they are slightly stronger than the ones from before. Shit, is the Reality Marble taking effect already?

You slash and defend. Tatsuya punches and tries kicking. You push each other back and forth, neither making any real progress. Soon, the two of you are deadlocked in the center again. The blade of your katana is screeching and grinding against Tatsuya’s right fist. Your faces are close, and your bodies are struggling to shove the other back. For an instant, you ponder if you could kick Tatsuya’s nutsack. Actually, that isn’t a good option. You would lose focus on Gray Soul if you tried.

You can’t parry it. Not this superpowered fist covered in the flames of a dragon god. You definitely can’t take any risks either. You have to win here. For your best friend’s heart, for the sake of the five girls, and for the rest of your nakama.

Gray Soul transforms once more, and you can hear the fucker laughing with glee inside the back of his head. Of course it’s excited—heavy form is the most powerful form available, designed for crushing bones and splitting bodies in half. You feel the blade expand outward, twisting and shifting, then finally hardening into a slab of pure steel and raw strength. The smell of iron radiates from it. It is thirsty, and you are prepared to quench it.

Tatsuya pounds forward, leaping towards you. The Reality Marble has truly taken effect, and his speed has increased. He swings his fist forward, purple flames leaping from it. You raise your mighty blade as a defender, and the two forces meet.

Tatsuya’s strength is insufficient to break your guard, but the flames nevertheless spurt forward, trying to edge their way around your blade. Only a few managed to lick the sides of your face, burning patches of skin and making you wince. Gray Soul shudders, and you steel yourself for the incoming onslaught.

The fire has dimmed down, but Tatsuya punches your blade with his hardened fist. Then he does it, again and again. He unleashes a veritable barrage of punches onto your sword. An unstoppable force meets an unmovable object. You do not let up, at all.

“How long are you going to play with the hearts of all five girls?” You yell, glaring at your best friend. “Doesn’t your precious nakama deserve better? I don’t care if you choose to be with all of them or none of them, but stop fucking around and act like the bro I know!”

“Shut the hell up, Kazuya!” He roars. “I told you, didn’t I? Everything is fine the way it is now, I’m sure of it. I’m not playing with the hearts of anyone!”

“What did you just say?” He breathes, his face slowly turning red. You see the flames surrounding his fists glow brighter.

One little issue we may want to watch out for: if we're using anything remotely like Nasuverse Reality Marbles, it's probably going to come crashing down the moment we convince bro to stop this. With my limited understanding of the Nasuverse, it's not so much that he's needed to invest power in Ouroboros, so much as that bro had to be really fucked in the head to generate it in the first place. When it ends, I doubt bro will be able to generate a Reality Marble ever again, because, unless something bad happens, he's unlikely to ever again believe in something to the point at which it is a part of himself, that he can project that reality onto the world.

An idea strikes you. It may not be the best idea you’ve ever had, but if you don’t find a way to finish the fight soon, you’ll lose.

In your mind, you send out waves and waves of chains towards Gray Soul. They take hold and drag it down deep into the dungeon. It barks and roars at you, demanding to know what’s going on. Why are you doing this, it screams in that raspy, guttural growl. You yell at it to shut its damn mouth and watch,

The gray aura falls from your body. At the same time, Tatsuya charges forward and attacks.

The punch breaks your guard. Of course it does, you’ve let it. It sinks towards your torso, and lands squarely in your stomach.

It hurts. By god, does it hurt. Gray Soul falls from your hand, and your expression is that of severe pain. The blow must’ve cracked some of your ribs. You stumble backwards, towards the edge of the platform. Then you clutch your stomach, and give Tatsuya a wry grin.

He’s staring at you, shocked. His fist is stretched outward, in that stance of his. Presumably, he hadn’t anticipated that things would turn out like this. You chuckle bitterly, coughing up a drop of blood, and begin to talk.

“Look at you, brother. Look at how scared the truth is making you. It’s enough to make me bleed.” You say softly. “Do you think that you’re not going to drive away everyone, if you keep ignoring the way things are?”

“They won’t.” Tatsuya responds. “I won’t let that happen. I swear I won’t.”

The irony is palpable. “All of the girls love you! I’ve the seen way they act. You have to accept their feelings at some point, or they’ll kill each other over it! Then they’ll truly be lost!”
