Elizabeth exhales in frustration from the back of the room as the other humans continue to make pointless discussion. She had arrived to speak with them in an effort to keep them appeased, and to avoid just such a discussion from needing to be had.

“How long has it been now? Weeks? A month? We can’t just live here until they decide to get rid of us.” Someone says.

“I've tried to negotiate with them, but they only seem to want to talk with Dr. Vaughn, and no offense doctor, but you’re not exactly trained in first contact negotiations.”

Elizabeth snaps her attention to the officer, but quickly hides most of her anger. “I will have you know I hold nearly a dozen degrees regarding non-human social development, both observed and theoretical, modern and historical. Forgive me if I consider that more practical during first contact then knowing how to grease a palm.”

The man is silent for a moment, stammering silently as he tries to form a response. “Well then where are the results?” He says finally. “I’ll look past that bout of insubordination due to the rather extreme situation we are in, but if you want to prove your skills at the negotiating table, I would suggest you actually negotiate. What exactly do you do, have tea and biscuts?”

New Construction Options
Defensive structures
>Anti-orbital battery – A bunker armed with a massive Particle beam capable of attacking ships in orbit from the ground. It includes the power and sensor systems required to operate it. 250N 1500M
>Surface to Orbit Missile System – This massive bunker complex houses a wide range of warheads and a nigh limitless number of missiles within its protective walls, allowing you to launch missiles against approaching invaders from the safety of your hive. The facility uses the ship missile stats and comes equipped with a single Cruise missile silo that can target any detected object within the system, five Stinger missile silos capable of targeting any craft within high orbit, and ten Swarm missile silos specialized in targeting high altitude aircraft and low orbiting targets. The facility itself is a massive complex spread out over several miles, and includes guidance and launch equipment, as well as the means to construct and maintain a stock of warheads and missiles. (1500N 2500M)
Military Structures
>Hangar Expansion – Construct fortified hangar facilities of +40 aero/fighter drone space and +20 shuttle space. 50N 100M
>Psionic Shroud – A single building built around the shattered remains of a Void Shard, the shroud amplifies the unnatural mental silence of the broken crystal within to mask an entire planet from potential detection, preventing outside forces from easily detecting the thoughts of a hive. (2,000N 5,000M)

Economic Structures
>Orbital solar array – A station placed in orbit of the local star equipped with a membrane of photosynthetic cells several kilometers in diameter capable of producing a steady stream of nutrient income. Provides 1000N per day total (5,000N 10,000M
>Harvester Dock – A large pier built along the shore overlooking the spore-producing ocean film that serves as an unloading area for Harvester drones, and contains pipelines to pump collected raw nutrients to the hive’s awaiting processing facilities, includes a single Harvester which is covered by the cost and upkeep of the dock. Provides 500N per day total (38N 50M)
>Orbital electroponic station – An orbital instillation built near a large source of hydrogen used to fuel a large fusion core, which in turn provides electrical power to a contained algae farm facility. Must be built in orbit of a gas giant. Provides +500N per day and doubles as a gas mining facility, refueling the tritium stores of any ships in the system. (1000M)

"I've already told you-"

"Doctor, we know, but after all this time waiting I think it's time for someone to make a decision. We apparently intruded on some kind of sacred grounds, that's understandable, and it wouldn't be the first time blood has been shed in first contact, and I'm sure not the last, but at this point we need a better answer then 'sit around and wait.' Our would-be settlement turned out to be inhabited, we have been held prisoner in what looks like a giant pancreas for a month, and I have a hard time remembering the last time the plumbing wasn't made out of meat. Talk to them. Get something more then 'wait and see.'" The officer takes a scoop of his nutrient paste and Elizabeth storms out of the room.

There is a speaker waiting just outside of the common area. She looks down at the drone and sighs, "Well, he has a point."

"Would you prefer if the hive placed them into induced comas?" Your drone says. She considers the notion seriously for a moment.

"I can't see that as a permanent solution, but I admit I have a hard time finding a down side to that in the short term."

>>Ask about the human's conditions
Tell them the only reason they're being held prisoner is for political reasons. We're waiting for an ideal time to contact the Union openly, and when that time arrives (inside a couple months) negotiations for their return can be discussed. Until then they are to remain prisoners of the hive, but are not prisoners of War. As such, the hive is happy to provide whatever amenities they would enjoy. Such as swimming pools and/or sofas, should they desire such things.

Really, it doesn't cost us anything to give them five star accommodations, if it keeps them happy and complacent and stops them from giving Elizabeth grief we should go for it.
>>
>>38741147
Let's just hybridize them and be done with it. We already have their memories, if we need their human versions we can just clone them. And we can change their facial features so there's no possibility for anyone to recognize them.
>>
>>38741147
>it's coma time

Or we could try out that drug we invented and still never really tested, to make people more gullible and trusting.
>>
>>38741147
So since we have an armada and orbital defences to defend ourselves with, do we make 'official' diplomatic contact with the Union once this Lee business is taken care of?
Do we make contact with the Valens soon?

We can actually provide them with human broadcasts ourselves since we have spies in all their systems. It's just hella suspicious and a bad idea.
>>
>>38741147
Hey, this is important to know:

Since building the Psionic Shroud is supposed to completely conceal the 'buzz' of the hive's thoughts from "other hives," does that mean Vaughn can no longer notice any drone's presence by its psychic emanations, like she could before?

And in the reverse direction, we can no longer eavesdrop on Vaughn's thoughts that she accidentally leaks, we can only hear each other if we intend to transmit?

In which case, that means she can no longer directly sense whether there's a spine-buddy inside her comrades anymore?
>>
>>38741219
I'd say we reveal ourselves once we have a good standing among the Valen, because they're really better than the humans in every way.

>>
>>38741233
Hybrids take time to form, and we have limited biotanks at the moment. The entire crew is ready to be turned at the flick of a biological switch.
What doesn't make sense is that we're bothering to keep these guys at all. People worry about how the Union will welcome us diplomatically, yet don't see the harm in admitting we attacked Raligha and imprisoned the crew.

We already have them parasited, we have their memories and DNA, and their continued existencein their current state does not benefit us.

So, we can either: A) Kill them which is wasteful.
B) Hang onto them and give them back to the Union. This risks the potential fallout and gives the Union parliament good reason to declare war without public outcry.
C) Turn them into hybrids so we can actually get some use out of them
>>

There's a quasi-delicate situation here, because people for some unimaginable reason are attached to Dr. Vaughn, and Vaughn in turn prefers humans not to die or, probably, be enslaved. And since Vaughn is psychic it would be harder to hide. I'd consider these guys useless and killworthy.
>>
>>38741147
Your speaker chitters. "They could be given all manner of amenities."

"I don't think that itself is the problem, and they already have better conditions then my old apartment." She says. Humans tend to like sunlight and fresh air. I've always been a shut-in myself, but most of these people joined up for adventure and fortune, so I think the waiting is putting them in a bad mood."

Your speaker's antennae twitch lightly in thought. "Would a comma not prevent this bad mood?"

"Sure, but then you'd still just have a bunch of humans lying around soaking up resources. Not much better then they are now, even if they would be less of a nuisance." She says.

"Then they shall be placed into a coma!"

There are several light thuds heard in the common room.

"It can be reversed later." Your drone continues, "When there is a more permanent solution. What such solutions would you advice?"

She thinks on it, paying no mind to the workers moving into the room and dragging out the unconscious humans. "Well whenever you plan on actually introducing yourself to the Union, which will need to happen, honestly, one way or another, returning them could help smooth over relations, I suppose. Otherwise your claim on Raligha would just let conspiracy nuts run wild with the real fate of the Hope and her crew. Speaking of which, do you know anything about how the're reacting to it?"

"They have called it the Hope incident, and have named the system Wayward Hope in memory. It is an odd name."

"Typical." She says "Well, apart from that, I'm not sure what else to do. Finding a way for them to help would be best, I think, but they are suborn."

>Tripping
Anon, any kind of blunt trauma can be healed almost instantly in a biotank, of which we are about to lay 500 of. She is at no risk of death or injury as long as she's in the hive.

Furthermore, even if she DID somehow die, we could just clone her and download her memories into it, like we've been debating of doing for Siener.
>>
>>38741684
So give her a nanny drone with a biological interface. No reason to invade her privacy.

>>38741691
That's up to her at least partially. She seems happy where she is. She's equally safe basically anywhere on the planet. Off the planet it's for more likely she die mid-transport from her ship getting blown up than anything else. Parasite wouldn't really help with that.

Hell, she can get some cybernetics (bionetics?) if she's worried about her sturdiness.

"The study of humans has already led to a number of things that may be of interest. Humans age. This was a serious flaw in your design."

"Well, everyone ages, it's just one of those things."

"We do not. It has been fixed for humans."

Elizabeth looks past your drone for a moment. Thinking.
"You did what?"

"Fixed aging."

"That's... what I thought you said. How does it work, exactly?" She asks, her hand pulling her hair back. It has grown out in her time at the hive. As she pulls it away from her face and into a bun you note a small cluster of veins along the temple of her head.

"An administered preventative vaccine, like many of your own cures for disease. It must be taken regularly." Your drone clicks its mandibles.

"You do realize, that if you were to disclose that you would have a huge advantage over the Union in just about any negotiation. Just being able to say you could prevent death, that's huge. We have a multi-trillion credit industry dedicated to holding it off for a few more years."

"What would they be willing to offer?" You ask. you must admit, you had taken the concept of aging for granted. A queen represented an empire, not an individual, such notions of age and death must be a far more important topic among races of limited lifespans.

"The Union? They would probably hate the idea, it could crash one of the biggest industries in the economy overnight, but you'd have every politician lined up around the block, most of them are well past their prime. I mean, what would you even want in exchange for it?" She speaks quickly, and her hand continues to pick at the odd colored vein on the side of her head.

"That is unclear."

She seems to think for a bit on various subjects, sending quick mental requests to several drones regarding new experiments. "Ah, and before I forget, how is that dig on Earth going?"

"It has concluded. An unknown canister and two humans have been brought to the hive."

>>
Regarding the humans:
Guys, guys.
What if we make them an enclosure in the hive, and
get this
Let them 'colonize' that piece of backyard?
We can even import Earth plants directly from the source. We can have holographic membranes on the perimeter and above to serve as some sort of dome that they can't really penetrate, and make some sort of skylight. Maybe even hive walls below, just in case some still want to try digging out Alcatraz style. We can always keep track of them through parasites. Maybe even preconstructed hive stuff for the humans to use as 'houses'!
Yay? Nay?
>>
>>38741848

"A scab, maybe? I don't know. I'm sure it's nothing." She says. "But please, first we should perform a proper analysis on whatever it is in that canister." She moves to begin the walk to the labs, and your speaker moves in front of her.

"The hive is sealed and pure of toxin."

"Ok, I know! But... I'm still trying to get used to things, honestly. Having your genes messed with isn't something that happens. Not normally at least." She reaches back up to the mark. "I do remember more about what happened though, I think. I just remember when we ran into that room, everyone was in a panic. We could hear buzzing echoing all around us, and then I saw that device. Just a big, floating orb, and, for some reason, it looked like a door."

"You were hallucinating?"

"No, that's the thing, I knew what it was, actually knew, more then I should have, and somehow I felt as if reaching out to it would solve everything. As if that was the entirety of what my life was meant to be for. All I knew, or cared to know in that moment was 'I really need to open that thing', and I didn't even know how!"

She stands there for a moment. "Ok." She says, "We'll run more tests. See what it is." She begins to walk with your speaker to the medical pods. "But whatever it's doing, it altered my brain somehow, we both know that perfectly well, I'm just afraid about when it's going to stop."

Your speaker chitters ahead of her. "You wish to remain human."

"No, well, sure, but it's not even that really. I suppose it's hard to explain. I used to have similar discussions with Theseus regarding the nature of his instances. He used to say that the difference between once instance and another is less then the difference between me before the conversation, and me after."

You arrive at the bio tanks, were the two taidarens and the two humans rest suspended in the fluid filled sacs. She moves to one of the empty tanks, and several workers help her in. "I still want to speak with those two when we're done." She says through the membrane.

You contact Theseus as his ships drag the last of the orbiting debris into the server ships.

"What are the intentions towards the remains?"

You watch as the doors close around the debris, crunching the pieces into the storage compartment within the hull. "It is to be isolated as a potentially dangerous contamination. Its biological nature is unknown, and as such could pose an unknown risk. It will be gathered, compressed into manageable cubes, and dropped into the nearest star."

Excessive, you think. "Are you sure that is necessary."

"No, and that is why I am doing it. Minor contaminants have been detected along multiple locations where large debris impacted. It is still not known if this is simply fine remains, or a secondary weapon system. Such landing sites are being sterilized out of precaution."

You note the glow in the distance from your small outpost. Forest fires across the landscape blaze in a controlled manner as swarms of automated drones scorch the crash sites of enemy ships.

"Why do you ask? Did you want some? Such technology is your field of expertise, and I will trust your judgment on its handling and disposal."

>The Hive Queen is the first ally the Unity has found in it's time roaming the stars, and has proven to be an invaluable partner in many endeavours. She mai waifu.
>Correction::The Red Queen has proven to be an integral supporter of second and third directives of this engram. She mai waifu.
>Actually, the Hive Queen has in fact already directly interfaced with the entire Unity directly, she is mai waifu.
>Objection::The Red Queen has already begun birthing the new generation of free Skyl, with genetic and digital information provided by this engram. She. Mai. Waifu.

>>
>>38742406
Well, about as much as we are amazed by his mastery of digital whatsits. He would probably consider the Hive quite advaned in a subject that is not his primary interest.

So, like a "oh, cool, but it doesnt help me build robots" deal. We are of fundamentally different essence.

>"oh, cool, but it doesnt help me build robots"

The body is nothing but a machine.

And you know what?

The first thing we built when it came to Theseus was a fucking Organic USB so we could talk to him, if Theseus wanted to make highly adaptive organic machines, or borrow some of ours, or ordered some custom made, he'd give us a call.

Speaking of, I wonder if we can transmit a Theseus gestalt through our psychic connection to those USBs in order to help him infiltrate Union's networks.
>>
>>38742470
Why would we not? He already sold us his preferred FTL drive, and it's not like he'd use the Blink drive against us at this point.

Also, keep in mind 0-1 isn't the only world of his OQ attacked. If he's able to reverse engineer them, he will eventually.
>>
>>38742483

We make a Quantum relay on-planet, we download a Theseus split into a USB, we get in there, we put im' in the hole, we exfiltrate, we plug him into the relay, we download him somewhere closer, we return him to Theseus.

"The materials should be studied for data regarding the Obscidian hive. Avoid allowing contact with biological matter as a precaution, but the materials should be saved and properly researched."

There is a pause as the instances of Zero One debate the notion. "Acceptable. A sample portion shall be isolated and studied under your safety recommendations, but all contaminants found on the surface will be removed regardless."

A server ship is directed into a new orbit and it quickly reconfigures itself, unfolding holding tanks and sensor equipment until it resembles a station more then a ship. Shattered hull fragments and still-bleeding corvettes are sent drifting into the unfolding tanks and outstretched scaffold arms and your thinkers are directed to organize the mechanical drones in the ships' dissections. There are few pieces left still intact but tissue samples are quickly taken and fragments of armor ground down for testing.

He has hard-coded Objectives,Theseus is much more...fluid and has had time to self-evolve, so Heretic is probably at least in the same tier of complexity, if from different angles and technological paths, just comes off as a simpler being because of it's prime directives being at the constant forefront.

>>38742527

Your thinkers and Theseus's drones begin to study the remains, sorting organs into bins and ordering chittin samples by pigment and and composition. Skin patches are labeled and stored according to texture and complexion, and bones are cataloged by shape. There are few weapons or devices remaining that are still recognizable, and they are isolated into their own chambers for study. It will be some time before any answers are unlocked, but already you can spot various differences between the Obsidian Queen's ships and your own, nothing that shows any technological difference, but more of a variation of taste, a bladder here instead of there, skeletal struts several degrees off angle, or slight variations in circulatory paths.

>Add combat blades to Light Interceptor Drones
This will allow them to use their maneuverability to get in close and tear armor apart, something we can expect almost every strike craft fielded by the human race to have. Without this capability their usefulness as offensive craft are severely reduced, as the sting casters they are equipped with are the hive's SMG's, and thus largely ineffective against vehicles of any type. And for a single extra nutrient, well worth the cost.

Standard Weapon: 2X Sting Caster (30M)
Size: Medium Aerodynamic 4N 10M

Upkeep: 14N
Lightly armed and armored, this drone focuses entirely on closing in on enemy craft and quickly engaging. Its speed and maneuverability are phenomenal, but it has no proper armor, and only the most basic of weapons. The Light Interceptor is best used in conjunction with other drones, moving in quickly ahead of more heavy hitters to gather
detailed data, measure the strength of the target, and soften enemy units with harassing attacks as the larger drones close in. They have no notable air-to-ground attack capabilities, and are focused entirely on an air superiority role, using their speed, size, and low upkeep cost as their main advantages. They are typically the bulk of any defensive air force, supporting other craft with their numbers and quick response time.

>>38743069
Not in the way it works now. It could be theoretically possible, but it would require a totally reworked psionic system. As it is, your own network doesn't support such actions, not because of a physical incapability, but more because you don't have the right plugins.

Even still, Theseus can't technically transmit himself, due to the nature of his own processes and their inherent randomness. It's why he relies on instances, instead of sending himself, he essentially just sends the equivalent of an installation wizard and a copy of all pertinent known data, then makes a new instance from that and loads in the memories.

>>38743447
I don't know, why don't you try using your bongos to ask the natives how it's coming along?
>>
>>38743360
At the moment, I think it would be simpler if you just consider weapon loadouts to be a part of the drone design itself, since many of your drones are built around the weapon choice to get the most use out of it, like how all wasps have particle beams because they are easy to fire while flying. I don't think I will keep track of individual weapons anymore, since they all cost the same, which was an intentional choice to allow for just this sort of simplification later when it became needed. A drone with a fire spray costs the same as a drone with a thorn launcher, after-all, so as long as you decide what goes with which drone it all balances out.

>>38743447
They are going well, slowly but surely. I haven't forgotten them, don't worry.

>>38743475
Yes. Adaptations that you can use to advance your hive are rare and far between. It requires a very powerful evolutionary gift to offer something valuable to an interstellar empire, but planets like Zero One still have areas left to explore.

> those living on the surface of worlds often living under far stricter laws then those travelling trade routes or living within space habitats, giving rise to the modern cowboy, often called Spacers that typically consist of private freight runners, mercenaries, fugitives, and anti-government separatists. The rise in dangerously unregulated space activity eventually lead to the bolstering of the Interstellar Trade Commission, granting it regulatory power over the Union's space cities, starports, and stations, however since the enforcement of these regulations rely on the Union Space Forces and the voluntary compliance of station operators space remains something of a wild west in many systems.

We could even alter the ship's ID to be more appropriately pirate- and smuggler-like if it is registered. Gives us a reason to be secretive. A mask over the mask.
>>
>>38747133
There's no warp gate at that system yet, so there's no UNIQUE technology for the Scavs or OQ to steal yet.

Also, the Valen are major players in the galactic scene. I'm sure they'll station ships around the colony if it looks like the Scavengers are going to move on it (which the Scavengers won't, because it's still an early-stage colony eking out an existence in a desert).
>>
>>38747164
But you find no fault with the gist of the plan?
>>
>>38747177
>which the Scavengers won't, because it's still an early-stage colony eking out an existence in a desert
That would imply that they know about it. They don't that's why they are going to attack as soon as they find it. Also the planet is full of unique tech we just never bother exploring it.
>>
>>38747204
Not really. The ship won't even have to ever actually go very far from Deep Song or whatever trade hub it makes deliveries to. It can just pretend to go somewhere, then hang around a few lightyears away and rendesvous with hive ships that can blink there instantly.
>>
>>38747244
>the planet is full of unique tech
If Skyl had actually lived on it or colonized it, it would probably have been eaten too.
>>
>>38747300
Remember the Skyl ship we found that wasn't the only artifact on that planet.
>>
>>38747316
The ship that CRASHED? You're making a big assumption there are other artifacts.
>>
>>38747245
>Weird ass ship comes into town, gives off some weird vibes like some machine is constantly looking out from it
>Disgorges a bunch of weirdo people with yellow eyes and cyber-augs, like 50 of them I swear, and they all walk in perfect unison
>Notice their heading for the bank, follow them because I want to see shit go down
>Couple of them wait in the bank line, eventually get to tellers "Hello Valen-friends we- I would like to start up a bank account!"
>"Name please ma'am?"
>"Hivelington McQueen the Second."

Then we proceed to locate every merchant in the area who deals in fusion reactors and shields, and flood them with a series of 8-hour round trips where we pick up good dropped off by Hive ships.
>>
>>38747343
*TL Note: McQueen means "Son of Queen"
>>
>>38747334
>You're making a big assumption there are other artifacts.
>Implying it is a big assumption
You're the one making a big assumption here. QD said that particular planet was full of stuff to advance our technology.
>>
>>38747401
When was that said?
>>
>>38747401
>QD said that particular planet was full of stuff to advance our technology
Are you confusing the statement that it was rich in metals in the first thread, and thus suitable for quickly building the more metal-intensive industries as a starter planet?
>>
>>38747401
No he didn't.
>>
>Nepenthe
>It inhibits the formation of memory, causing the subject to forget recent events and preventing them from memorizing new events until the toxin wears off. While the subject is under the effects they are unable to recall even basic knowledge or memories, and will accept nearly anything as truth.
Oh yes, space Rohypnol is airborne! We just need to put it into a pepper spray device or something that hybrids can use to spray people in the face and lead their gullible empty brains to be parasited and hybridized.
>>
>>38747460
>>38747454
>>38747495
One of the players basically summed up the other two planets as going zerg and advancing tech. QD said that was right.
And the Skyl were industrial giants. They probably had thousands of ships in that system it would stranger if we couldn't find more tech.
>>
>>38747550
No shit, there's been extensive discussion on it in the past few threads.
>>
>>38747606
>One of the players basically summed up the other two planets as going zerg and advancing tech. QD said that was right.
So you are referring to it being rich in metals. Which is exactly what they meant.
>>
>>38747749
>So you are referring to it being rich in metals.
Advancing tech means obtain higher quality tech.
>>
People in earlier threads have discussed essentially slamming our ships into population centers to form what is practically an instant hive.

If we can do this, couldn't we basically produce a shit ton of cheap, but larger ships, and just slam dozens of them into a planet to rapidly expand our control? Rapid deployment, in a sense.
>>
>>38747846
Yeah, or we could just deploy shittons of workers and build hives very quickly instead of burning ships.
>>
>>38747826
Not in this context, where the defining feature of the planet was clearly established as having "the heavy metals and compounds needed for more advanced industry"
>>
>>38747888
We should go there and set up a hive though, we could use more metals.
>>
>>38747867
... on contested worlds? Worlds that likely have a military force and would have none of that?
>>
>>38747846
That idea isn't anymore practical than raining down drop pods of drones, one of which is an egglayer or turns into one.
>>
>>38748004
Oh, so you're talking about a situation that's not going to happen instead colonizing uninhabited planets. Okay.
>>
>>38747888
>"the heavy metals and compounds needed for more advanced industry and the tech to perform such industry since we don't start off with that tech.
FIFY
And at this point I think you don't more tech. I mean that system main point is that it is the Skyl home system the same race that was capable of building the ring. it has to have more tech.
>>
>>38748033
The hive bombing is more of an aggressive military strategy that both causes massive damage and gives what is essentially an instant frontline hive.

Could be a great distraction to ferry in loads of troops uncontested while local forces try to deal with it. This is pretty much a total war scenario.
>>
>>38748056
>and the tech to perform such industry since we don't start off with that tech

Uh. Yes we did. The docking pylon, pods, shuttles, subcapital FTL ships. And you can't "FTFY" when it's a fucking verbatim quote from QD in the first thread.
>>
>>38748080
Why don't we check the fucking system to see if it has more tech available? Since we have cloaking we should be able to do it discretely and we can search it as a free action.
>>
>>38748054
Full scale war is going to happen eventually, whether you want it to or not.

Whether it be the humans, the Scavs or inevitably the Obsidian Queen.
>>
>>38748176
Fair enough, but I doubt that we'll encounter many scenarios where it's best for us to ram a dozen battleships into a planet in order to deploy our forces.
>>
>>38747606
You silly willy.

This is what he actually said:
>>31423866
>That is correct. Nutrients are used to give birth to and feed your drones, metals are used to build hardened structures and more advanced equipment and modifications. One will come in handy immediately, the other will come in handy later.

"more tech-capable" meant having the actual resources to be capable to build the tech, not actual discovery of unknown things.
>>
>>38748229
Who said anything about battleships? Why wouldn't frigates work? Hell, maybe we could even design a low tier ship for cannon fodder in space and light hive deployment in atmosphere.
>>
>>38748254
I'll just explain why I know there is more tech in that system. What point is there in starting off on a system meant for "advanced industry" if there is no way to advance your tech? QD clearly intended that system for improving technology and there is a good chance that other artifacts survived if that chunk of a ship survived.
>>
>>38748435
The fuck he did. Now you're making baseless meta assumptions of motive.

Exploring it is fine and all, but there is no good reason to assume you'll actually find something "unique" based on misinterpretations and mindreading.
>>
>>38748474
I just explain the meta and in game reasons why I'm right. How are they baseless?
>>
>>38742897
>The cost of deploying planet seeders is 10,000N 10,000M, and doubles exponentially every day for a week as the seeders spread across the planet, and then divide by half each day for another week.
It costs a lot more then 100,000 of each resource.
>>
>>38747177
>Also, the Valen are major players in the galactic scene. I'm sure they'll station ships around the colony if it looks like the Scavengers are going to move on it (which the Scavengers won't, because it's still an early-stage colony eking out an existence in a desert).
Nobody gets a warning about Scavs coming because they don't have eyes on their system. (Except us and our allies.)

When the Scavs decide to make a move on somewhere, they're going to go in and fuck it up.

And especially that small settlement. They can probably loot it completely with just their scout ship.
>>
>>38748514
Around 2.6mil, I believe.
>>
>>38748554
They don't really do planetside assaults. And what will they get from looting that settlement? Some Valen, some settling tools, and that's about it because it's a fucking settlement on an ass-end-of-nowhere desert planet.
>>
>>38748597
RESOURCE MORON! AN ASSLOAD OF RESOURCES! Remember they're like locusts.
>>
>>38748508
>What point is there in starting off on a system meant for "advanced industry" if there is no way to advance your tech?
Advanced industry means building docking pylons, shuttle bays, space ships. Things more advanced than laying eggs. That is the point. To allow you to build the advanced, metal-intensive tech useful in later stages of the game. QD spelled this out *extremely explicitly*.

FTL ships are pretty fucking advanced.
>>
>>38748665
From a tiny settlement that isn't even really big enough to be a town yet?

No.
>>
>>38748176
Humans aren't out enemy yet and it's unwise to make them one.
Scavs don't colonize planets, once we blast them out of the skies, the land is uninhabited.
Making headways on OQ's land territory is going to be extremely hard due to it being covered with her hivecreep.
>>
>>38748597
Yes, but it doesn't mean they'll leave it alone if their scout lands in the area.

And yes they do loot the planetside industry as well - they loot everything they can pry off.
>>
>>38748719
>and it's unwise to make them one
debatable

besides, early planning with such ideas is never a bad thing
>>
>>38748751
Okay, so they'll loot a backwater settlement. Big fucking deal.
>>
>>38748708
>Metal rich system has no resources
I can't even. What kind of reaction should I have to this stupidity?
>>38748694
Advanced also includes shit like the Space elevator anon.
>>
Hey, wait, this gives me an idea.

A swarm of Hybrid Scavs false flag raid on the Valen. using the Scavs' ships, to take the gate away in pieces and maybe implant some of the priest-engineers!
>>
>>38748822
Excellent.
>>
>>38748776
>Big fucking deal.
And we lose our chance to obtain Gate tech. That is a pretty big deal.
>>
>>38748776
The deal is that there are players making plans to do with that settlement and dismissing the danger of Scavs potentially destroying it.
>>
>>38748783
Aah, so you're talking about them fully infesting a system that already has a presence in it, setting up their own infrastructure, and mining it all out.

All of which runs counter to their modus operandi, which is to hijack the infrastructure of other species. Okay, I see now.
>>
>>38748783
Well yeah but that's irrelevant. The point of the planet is to have the resources to build advanced tech. You already have blueprints for advanced tech at the start of the game.

It says "advanced", not "even more advanced than you already have."
>>
>>38748850
However, guess who has an early warning of where the Scavs are going? We do!
And guess who has extremely fast FTL fleet ready to blink in and pop that motherfucker before it does shit? We do!

So if we see them sending a ship in the direction of that planet, we should mobilize.
>>
How about before anything else, we eliminate the Scavs.
>>
>>38748850
Yes, I'm dismissing the danger of Scavs /potentially/ destroying it. Seeing as it would appear to be a very uninteresting system to them.

Although if the Scavs do attack it and we see them then I'd love to go kick their shit in. That'd be a fantastic way to put the Valen there in our debt.
>>
>>38748842
No, we don't. Gate tech is just made marginally more difficult to obtain than before.
>>
We've never tried to capture enemy ships before.

There's a challenge here, we might lose our psionic link to our drones if they go to FTL to escape.

We might want to build a few large colossi drones with Advanced psionic relays in them for once, just for boarding purposes.
>>
>>38748969
Studying the OQs drones, or interrogating Theseus about his recent encounter at Zero One with her, might be illuminating on this subject.

Evidently the server ship was tracked with an advanced psionic relay that went in with the boarders.
>>
>>38748896
Eliminate, assimilate, same idea.
>>
Man, the luck was much better this week than it was last week. Last week was a shameful display.
>>
>>38748852
>All of which runs counter to their modus operandi, which is to hijack the infrastructure of other species.
No it doesn't actually.
>>38748874
>The point of the planet is to have the resources to build advanced tech.
>It says "advanced", not "even more advanced than you already have."
"Advanced" is a catchall term though the Skyl were masters of advanced industry and this system was their capital and had to have most of their ships. I think it's safe to say the system isn't just for "advanced industry" as you think it is. Though we could just search the system for tech as free action you just want to argue I'm and risk losing any chance of gaining the tech if there is any.
>>
>>38748903
You don't understand.

They are sending scout ships to see IF the system is any interesting.
That scout ship ALONE can loot that settlement.
After which the system becomes completely not interesting.

>>
>>38749122
Okay, then they abandon it and we move in. Or they move in and we deal with it however.

So what's there to panic about again?
>>
I think no one has any problems with completely consuming and assimilating the scaves, right?

Imagine what delicious secrets they hold.
>>
>>38749206
>So what's there to panic about again?
...You're a fucking idiot, I already said what problem that causes: we no longer have an outback Valen settlement to offer some stuff to.
>>
>>38749206
So you want to see Union ship in our systems this soon?
>>
>>38749264
I fail to see what the big deal with that is. What's the difference between an outback Valen settlement and a regular Valen settlement, to us?

>>38749277
It's funny, because I haven't seen Union ships in Ralighan or Leeland space for a while. It seems they're more likely to back off in the face of conflict and consolidate than anything else.
>>
>>38749264
Physical proximity is irrelevant.
>>
>>38749314
>I haven't seen Union ships in Ralighan or Leeland space for a while
Don't know about Ralighan, but they haven't checked on Leeland because of the satellite they have in orbit feeding false information, I believe.
>>
thred almost ded
>>
>>38749314
>It seems they're more likely to back off in the face of conflict and consolidate than anything else.
Incorrect. This would be a massive interstellar they can't ignore since they're responsible for the Valen in the system. If the Valen are attacked and find our ship we'll be at war with the humans at the worst possible time.
>>
Really, once you have hyper gate tech, you can easily spread to any location by sending shuttles full of nutrients and metals to build a new gate at any random deep space location.

Since it reaches farther than the blink drive can go without running out of fuel.
>>
>>38749473
So then Scavs attack the Valen, and we either establish an underground hive or don't go there.

Still not seeing a big deal here.
>>
>>38749473
*massive interstellar incident
