Welcome to Banished Quest!
You take the role of a young mage labeled a criminal by his people and cast out into the wider world. In the last thread you managed to avoid starting a riot and tracked down an old man.

It is currently the 7th of Svarthi, in the year 936 NH.

You don't see any reason not to spend some time with the old man. He is being quite nice to you after all. You expected him to be grouchy and uncooperative, not to just let you in to see the scroll without complaint. Making your way across the room with scroll in hand, you sit down on a small couch next to the old man's chair. The tea pot, seemingly of its own volition, rises into the air and pours itself into a cup, which in turns sets itself down on a small porcelain saucer.

The old man starts to speak, but is interrupted by a mild coughing fit. Once it runs its course, he resumes what he was saying. “Would you like any sugar or honey? I'm afraid I'm all out of milk.”

You don't think you've actually had this particular type of tea before. Tea in Pidjata is usually lighter, with notes of citrus. This tea is nearly solid black. More like coffee than tea, really. “I'll take a spoonful of honey, if you don't mind.”

The old man obliges you, the spoon currently sitting inside the jar of honey rising into the air, its contents somehow not spilling all over the table despite honey's strange ability to get absolutely everywhere. He stirs the spoon into your cup before placing it back in the jar of honey, then floats the saucer into your lap.

You raise the cup to your lips and take a hesitant sip, surprised to find that the tea isn't particularly bitter. Rather it taste like mint, with a hint of some sort of berry you can't quite put your finger on. It's surprisingly pleasant. You savor the drink until the old man's voice interrupts your thoughts. “Now then, tell me about yourself. What drives you this far north? The only one of your kind I've ever seen that was not a merchant is the Archmagos and he was cast out. Oh, and I suppose that girl as well. I forget her name.”

The Shahzadi, you assume. You shrug your shoulders. “I was cast out as well, for slandering the son of the Shah. However, that son has since become the Shah and I managed to save his life after he was poisoned by assassins. He unbanished me as a reward for my services. At least, he's going to unbanish me. He hasn't done so yet, but he has granted me the right to move about freely in Pidjata. Anyway, I've come this far north because during my Banishment I traveled these lands and I have a number of friends and acquaintances in this city. I'm primarily here to collect on my share of the profits from a business endeavor I started with one such friend.”

The old man nods sagely, although that's not really saying much. Everything he does seems sagely. “In the North, where I come from, we think of your people almost as a myth. The strange dark skinned inhabitants of the southern deserts. Each of them a mage. We tell stories of your crystal spires and magical wonders, of your infighting and madness. Some call you demons in mortal skin. Truthfully, I have found your kind no better or worse than any others. Merely taller.”

You're not really sure what that has to do with what you've said, but you suppose it's interesting if nothing else. Your people don't really tell stories of northern humans. To you, humans are just humans. There's little difference between one group and another. At least in terms of appearance. Their cultures can vary wildly.

The old man continues speaking before you have a chance to respond. “Why do you wish to learn the Vys metamagic? It is a powerful spell, not to be trifled with. Misuse can lead to the death of not only the victim, but the caster as well.”

You take a sip from your cup whilst considering your response. “I wish to learn it because it is a powerful spell which will improve my understanding of magic. I am quite capable as a Vatis. I've trained for more than a decade to do what I do. I'm already a Grandmaster in one element and a Master of another at only twenty six years of age. I have seen worlds beyond our own and traveled far and wide. Quite simply, I am competent enough to handle myself.”

The old man laughs softly, shaking his head. “I don't doubt it, child. I never meant to cause offense. Merely a warning. I have seen too many good men and women driven to an early grave due to unchecked ambition. Regardless, feel free to read and enjoy your tea. Thank you for satisfying an old man's curiosity.”

You wonder just how old this man is. You can assume that he's human, but you're not sure if he's a hundred, two hundred, or perhaps even three hundred. You don't know what the upper limit truly is for a human Grandmaster. “Is there anything I can do for you by way of repayment? Any aches or pains you'd like healed? I've Grandmastered Water Magic, and I'm specialized in healing. If I can't fix it, nobody can.”

The old man waves a hand dismissively, a coughing fit striking before he has a chance to speak. Once it subsides, he speaks a little clearer than he had been previously. “No, no. It's fine. I've consigned myself to this body of mine. I don't imagine I'm much longer for this world. That's the way I prefer it, though. Best to die in your sleep, peacefully, when the alternative is madness.”

You're not sure if you would agree, but then again it's not like you really have a choice. You can't choose to die of old age. Regardless, you leave the man be and focus your attention on the scroll. Reading from the top, you find the language initially hard to read. It's in an older dialect of Rhynian than you're used to. Some spellings are weird, words that you'd usually see combined are instead written separately, grammar is strange. You manage, but it's more difficult than usual.

Apparently the Vys metamagic allows one to manipulate not only the Vys they possess, but the ambient vys and the vys stored in all living things as well. When used on a human, it allows the caster to control them almost like one would a puppet. They can, of course, resist this manipulation. However, it's quite difficult to do so without also knowing the Vys metamagic.

It has other uses as well, more mundane uses. It can be used to cast spells using someone else's reserves, or even ambient vys. According to the report, some Vatis have managed to use it with the Destroy effect to turn a being into a nonmagical entity, without any vys reserves. Doing so essentially destroys their identity, and might kill them if done carelessly. This can of course be reversed with the Create Vys spell, which has its own set of dangers to take into account. Apparently only the greatest of Vatis can use the Vys metamagic, as it's so costly to use.

The Vys metamagic was apparently poorly explored at the time that this scroll was originally written. Few had actually investigated its uses because it was thought that Enchanting was the school better suited for the manipulation of vys itself. Regardless, some posited that the Vys metamagic might have some interesting effects if combined with Metal magic, or perhaps Nature. It was apparently well known that one might erode the vys reserves of another by using Earth magic in conjunction with this meta.
>>
As far as actually learning the effect goes, it seems more a process of overcoming previous misconceptions rather than learning any new techniques. The scroll instructs you to 'attempt to cast a spell without a target'. To you, that just seems like you'd be bleeding vys into your surroundings. The scroll recommends finding a quiet, isolated location devoid of distraction to meditate in. The writer, whoever they were, reports that many found greater success after first disassociating themselves from their physical forms in meditation. It all seems surprisingly simple, for a meta so rare.

You gently roll up the scroll, sliding it back into its wooden tube and bowing your head just slightly towards the old man. “Thank you, for both the tea and the opportunity to read the scroll.”

He waves you off. “Don't mention it, the company was a welcome change. You can just leave the scroll on my desk, I've been studying the text over these last few days looking for clues as to what the Vys metamagic might do when used simultaneously with the poison effect. Unfortunately that scroll is incredibly lacking when it comes to details.”

sooo, if i am reading this right, we can give vys to something that doesn't have vys. assuming that we find a way of doing it, would we then be able to give someone like thad, who has so little vys its non-existant, more? i am assuming of course that it would kill him, since his body/soul? is not used to such enegry in the first place, but just as a hypothetical thought

>>

IIRC you can't leech at a range, perhaps this could bypass that? Although that makes it sound like poison. Maybe vys eroded with the vys metamagic is permanent? If so it might be useful to defang dangerous mages without having to resort to killing them outright.
>>
>>38815731
That's what I'm thinking too. We may be able to test shit out with Morita's experiments and see if we can increase vys by small amounts without doing irreparable harm to the host body. If we try to give Thad like 10 points all at once I'm pretty sure he'd explode. Maybe we could slowly get him to 1 or 2 points. Then after he stabilizes increase his reserves by half again until he can start learning magic on his own. Could we increase our own reserves arbitrarily with Create+Vys?

It will make inventions a joke to him. All mathematical formula spells should be easy for him to master. And the meta create + some metal and earth. Will make him EXPONENTIALY faster creating shit.
>>
>>38815782
We always could leech at range(half the boon though), hell we have a metamagic dedicated to range magic.
Its why some people wanted to create a servant army of batteries that we leach at long distance when we first got permanency.

>>
>>38815834
I haven't changed my mind on what is and is not possible in terms of the Vys meta. I will leave it up to your interpretation whether I lied previously, or am lying now.
>>
>>38815644
If poison+vys really does mimic the effects of the delirium vys corruption, manipulate+poison+vys could be a cure.
>>
>>38815812
I doubt its about increasing.
It more about giving and taking away the abilty to be magical is how it seems.
Once thad is given magic. He can increase it slowly but surely.
heck him just learning all the effects we have should be quite nice for him. And we can have master take him under his wing and DRILL MAGIC into him. along with forcing metal magic down his throat.
>>
>>38815328
>The scroll instructs you to 'attempt to cast a spell without a target'.
>The writer, whoever they were, reports that many found greater success after first disassociating themselves from their physical forms in meditation.

Alright. I think this scroll is genuine. If what Varvar said about vys is correct, and I'm inclined to believe him, this lines up with both how Vys is a byproduct of the soul and how having no distractions/separating from physicality (via void meditation) makes it easier to learn metas.

Simply, I think varvar's stuff backs this up.
>>
>>38815850
It's probably a veritable minefield to explore with dangerous drawbacks I agree. That's why I'd suggest extensive experimentation, control groups and study before trying it with anything or anyone we value. If we do find a way to use Create+Vys on someone without serious detriment though that's a problem in and of itself if others find out we can do that shit. I have faith Soma would make it cause as many problems as it solves.
>>
>>38815812
>>38815830
im thinking that it wouldn't make sense for the vys gained to be permanent, but temporarily like with the spice. i have no doubt that it would work like that, but it would just make him aware of it being there. once he is aware of it, than he can start working on it.

>>
>>38815962
probably not. im expecting him to be blown up in a rather spectacularly gory fashion if we peruse this line of study i can't quite remember what our master said about his vys, but it was something like non-existant, or so little that he would would never be able to use it in any way, shape or form. of course, all day i thought it was friday when the maid we hire to do all the deep cleaning came yesterday, so what do i know.

You use a manipulate spell to imitate the feat Grandmaster Albrecht performed earlier, refilling your teacup. You're surprised that it's still hot, after you've been sitting here chatting and reading for what must nearly be an hour now. Perhaps the pot is enchanted? It wouldn't surprise you. Regardless you try a sip of the tea without honey and find that it does have a bit of a bitter aftertaste to it after all that the honey had obscured. You decide to stir in a spoonful after all.

Once you've gotten yourself situated, you send the wooden tube containing the Vys scroll flying across the room with a flick of your wrist. It lands gently on top of the pile of books which covers the old man's desk. “I'm in no hurry, really. I was hoping I might learn a little bit more about you, Grandmaster Albrecht. Where you come from, what it's like to be a human Vatis, how your research is going, so on and so forth.”

The old man takes a moment to straighten himself in his chair, a coughing fit seizing him. Once it subsides, he clears his throat before speaking. “Well, I suppose I wouldn't mind obliging a young man a story or two. I've always been interested in foreign cultures, after all. I suppose I cannot be alone in my interest.” He takes his pipe out of his mouth for the first time since you met him, cupping it by the bowl whilst mumbling to himself.

“I suppose I ought to start with my homeland. I come from a city called Grossefestung. I know that name will sound odd to you. It does to other humans as well. My people were never assimilated by the Rhynians and we maintained our own language throughout the course of their hegemony. When the Empire fell, my people united to retake the lands that were once theirs, the northeastern corner of Heimat, what most seem to call the Rhynian Mainland or simply Rhynia. We have ourselves a pleasant little kingdom in the far northern reaches, though raids from Voibardians are a frequent problem.”

(1/4)
>>
“Ah, right. Voibardians. They've become something of a problem here as well from what I've heard. They're a vicious little race. They used to control a vast empire, stretching across much of what is now the eastern half of Heimat and Karge. Sorry, Karge is what we call this continent we're on now. Anyway, the Voibardians were driven underground by the Rhynians and more or less fortified themselves in the farthest north, but lately they've been raiding more and more frequently.”

“They possess strength which one would not typically expect of creatures their size, and some have horns as long as a man's forearm. The length of the horns is said to indicate their magical potential. Incidentally, they perform magic quite differently than you or I do. Where as ours is focused on affecting the world around us, theirs is focused on enhancing their own natural attributes. Often they will tattoo themselves, the tattoos serving as a focus for casting their spells.”

“Anyway, I've gone off on a tangent. My people are constantly threatened by the Voibardians but we trounce them every time we clash. It is only unfortunate that my people do not look kindly upon Vatis. You see, we have a limit on the number of people allowed to train at our version of this Academy we're sitting in. No more than thirty students a year. I was not accepted, and so was to be cast out into the waste. I was only fortunate that my father could afford to pay a ship to take me south.”

He places his pipe in his mouth, sucking at the wooden stem briefly before exhaling a cloud of harsh smoke. “I spent my youth as an adventurer. I was not a very good mage, but I was powerful and the Successor Kingdoms are always in need of powerful mercenaries to fight their wars. After years of fighting in battle after battle, I grew tired of the mercenary life and resumed my wanderings."
>>
"Eventually I happened upon this Academy here and settled down. Truthfully, my life story is not all that remarkable. That was... oh, perhaps a hundred and fifty years back. I'm two hundred and three years old, now.”

You're a little taken aback, he's incredibly ancient by human standards. Perhaps one of the oldest of their race to ever live. “You have lived a rich life, and a long life as well. A rare combination among humans, I find.”

The old man chuckles softly, exhaling another cloud of smoke. It burns your lungs just to be near the man, but it would seem incredibly rude to ask him to stop. “I suppose so, I suppose so. As for my research... well, it progresses. I find that poisoned vys is difficult to control. It loses its coherency, or destroys itself, or begins to expand exponentially. I've been trying to devise some way to contain vys, but it does not seem constrained to physical limitations. It flows through walls just as readily as air. Regardless, I doubt I will make a breakthrough before I pass on. I've been preparing to pass my notes on to one of my apprentices, a bright lad. I have high hopes for his future.”

You can't help but ask the obvious question. “How can you be so at peace with your own death? I could not imagine being so calm if I were to die at only two hundred years of age. Especially considering I've met people of my race five or six times that in age.”

Grandmaster Albrecht shrugs his shoulders. “It is something you learn to live with as a human. We have a saying: There are only two things certain in this life, death and taxes. While I may not be particularly fond of either, I recognize their necessity and would rather live with them than without them.”
>>
The concept of desiring mortality is entirely foreign to you. Sure you suppose committing honorable suicide when you grow too insane to function in society isn't exactly everyone's idea of a good end, but it only comes after many centuries of life on this Earth.”

You finish your tea whilst chatting about largely inconsequential things. You learn a little more about the city the old man was born in, and about his family. Apparently his father was a 'Ritter', some sort of small time landed noble responsible for defending a stretch of land from raiders. After you finish your tea you finally excuse yourself and make your way out of the room, thanking the old man for his time and his kindness.

After you've shut the door, you start to make your way down the hall towards the staircase in the central atrium, all the while debating where you ought to go next.

You debate whether you ought to schedule an appointment with Demetrios or seek out Hayes, but then it strikes you that you don't have to pick one or the other. Whilst making your way down the long spiral staircase, you reach out to Demetrios via the brooches.

{My friend! Good news, I've arrived safely in Anthus. I'm actually in the academy right now, as we speak. I was hoping we might meat to exchange ideas, and so that I might collect my share of the profits. What time is good for you?}

His response comes after a brief pause. {I'm teaching classes until this evening, but perhaps we could meet for dinner? The funds are in the Bank of Anthus, so I can write you a promissory note when we meet. How did things go with your father? Have you opened up Pidjata for us?}

Sheesh, what on Earth does he even teach for hours on end? Your education consisted of life-or-death situations intermixed with brief lectures. {I'm pleased to say that my father was impressed by a demonstration I put on and agreed to distribute our books within Pidjata. He's even going to handle shipping our books into Pidjata using his own fleet. Anyway, we can discuss all the details later. Over dinner.}

You find yourself standing outside of Hayes' workshop. The man himself is hunched over an anvil, swinging his hammer in a slow, constant rhythm. He seems to be crafting some sort of armor, but it's in the early stages. He's still trying to hammer out the metal thin enough to shape it.
(1/3)
>>
>>38818150
Obviously the pet troll of the thread. No need to say anything. Everyone knows him.
>>
You call out over the din of his hammer striking metal. “Hayes! How have you been you crazy bastard?” He whips around, a metal mask covering essentially the entirety of his face. He sets his hammer down and flips the mask up, revealing a broad grin and a crazy look in his eyes. “Well I'll be tar and feathered if it ain't my ol' companion in madness Mikhael. Whatcha swing by here for?”

You notice that a few new artifacts have been put on display in Hayes' workshop. The first one to catch your eye is a pendant set with a massive ruby, almost as big as a man's fist. It glows softly in the light of the workshop, a truly beautiful piece of jewelry.

The second piece to catch your eye is a harp seemingly made from the flesh of the living. A woman with her mouth opened in a silent wail is carved into the shoulder brace, the strings made from what appears to be sinew. It even has stubbly hair growing in certain places. It's disgusting, yet you can't help but wonder what on Earth it does.”

Finally, there is a small circlet sitting in a display case. It seems to be made of fine silver, with three massive gems set in the center. You note with some concern that the gems look uncomfortably like eyes, complete with pupils. The circlet also has a number of other black gems set around the large, amber gems. It reminds you vaguely of a crow, in a strange way.

>>
>>38819216
You know, that might actually have some basis in fact. Looking at it from a historical viewpoint the concepts of exclusive hetero and homosexuality are very, very recent. As in, they were invented in the 19th century. Granted, there is evidence for the existence of exclusively homosexual and heterosexual people long before that. I believe the Roman Empire criminalized homosexual sex (regardless of whether a person is giving or taking) sometime around 430 AD. Then of course, having gay sex was pretty much cause for a good ol' fashioned witch burning until... well really until the 17th and 18th century.

However, we have records from the Abbasid Caliphate dating from roughly the 10th century which stated that homosexuality was not only allowed, but encouraged. This was at the height of the Islamic Golden Age, when the Caliphate was the Rome of its day.

Basically homosexuality isn't a social construct so much as it is a luxury of decadent societies.

Nah like depression if left untamed it'll spiral into more degeneracy
>>
>>38819594
The singularity is coming around 2025.

If you can make it that long, things will be very different.
>>
>>38819607
But also like depression, eventually it will destroy itself.
>>
>>38819566
>Because I paid Soma a dollar to voteblock it.
>Shouldn't have pushed so hard for it anon.
Nice joke but I just want to know what the damn Gauntlet does. Also I wonder if the voices Hayes hears tell him what artifacts do.
>>
>>38819607
>>38819631
Problem with degeneracy is that it propagates itself. Depression is a really bad comparison for this. Memetic Polio or measles is a better comparison, in terms of similarities.
>>
>>38819572
Yeah, of course. We're heading towards a period of societal collapse. During such violent, desperate times concepts such as feminism (which was also thriving in the Abbasid Caliphate during the islamic golden age, with women holding public office and striving to become judges), homosexuality, free love, so on and so forth are all predicated on safety. They require an affluent society with few domestic threats to one's continued existence.

Obviously, when a state collapses, affluence and safety are the first things thrown out the window.
>>
>>38819630
>The singularity is coming around 2025.
I know we already anti AI protest from Luddites, but the idea that in 10 years that would happen is ludicrous i think in the next 35-45 years it might happen.
i remember a study say that technology would even out around 2017 until something new is discovered.
>>
>>38819682
Muslims are the threat our society faces.
>>
>>38819682
The US is about to experience one of those very bad collapses. The dollar will soon no longer be the reserve currency of the world and we will not be the dominant central bank and banking system.

It's going to get very ugly once the money train stops rolling.
>>
>>38819733
The train stopped rolling years ago. It's just waiting for the downhill tracks to lead into a canyon or level off a broken bridge.
>>
>>38819682
When do you think its gonna happen?
Also what do you think of the Hillary as a potential president?
i believe that she is incompetent and deleted emails on purpose to save her ass from the terrorist attack on the embassy, and that obongo is showing his true colors since he isn't gonna become president again and its the end of his term.
>>

What do you think of obamacare?

What do you think of voter IDs?
>>
>>38819730
And Mongols were the threat the Abbasid Caliphate faced. Don't get me wrong, Islam is a terrible religion. It's just that the fervor with which people cling to its tenants today was basically a foreign concept ~1000 years ago. Plus, I mean... Muslims are a threat to Europe, in an insidious sort of way. However, they're not really a threat to the US. The US will suffer from economic collapse within the century.

For reference, I'm basing most of my information on "The Fate of Empires and the Search for Survival" by Sir John Glubb, an article you can read here should you wish: http://people.uncw.edu/kozloffm/glubb.pdf

Idiot.
They're destroying our countries from within.
Europe's completely fucked with the mudslime scum now, they're building mosques on every street corner, raping our daughters, and subverting and brainwashing our sons to go fight for them.

Australia's next on the list. We were clued on a while back in the Cruenulla riots, but now? We've lost the spark Gen Y had. We're grovelling on bended knee for the animals.

We need to convince our peers of the threat we face when we let them run unchecked. We need to show the rest of the world how damaging muslims are to stability and peace.
We need to destroy them.
>>
>>38819823
The supposed 18 trillion dollar deficit is a joke. The USA's actual uncovered liabilities is up near the 150 trillion mark. There is no way that can be paid.

Everything goes in cycles and we are due for a big war. That's how currencies were reworked and made good, that's how economies were built back up and how countries moved up in the world.

But this time, the war will not be like anything before.

God help us.

Man that sigularity could come by 2025.
Doubt it, but i'd give it a decent 15% chance.
by 2035 easily 40% 2045 60%
and by 2055 there is a really good chance it will already be up and running. for a few years.

I just hope it's sooner rather than later.
But once it hits, you best believe the poor will stay poor and the rich who have thier hands on singularity WILL be so filty rich, it would be a joke to compare them to the poor.

But meh, i'll be happy having virtual reality.
And with in 3 years, we should have promising things. in 5-10 virtual reality should have a good portion of the market. For gaming. Don't know about you being able have a good home product. But a stationary one, easily in 10 years from now that fully interactive.

>>38819905
The problem isn't what markets they turn to, it's that they have to turn to those markets and they haven't been able to operate the same for them as they've had for "us americans." U.S. is an economic feedback loop for them, for lots of many complex reasons, Russia is not so much because their service economy grows so little and their government regulates it to shit, various parts of Europe are experiencing similar difficulties as the U.S., and Africa is still only "just begun."
It's not as simple as just redirecting goods.

Why not do it like a clock?
Day ticks up to 30 (or 31), months gets ticked up another, up to 12, then when all 12 is ticked up, the year ticks up one more.

Analogue clocks don't go Minute:Hour:Second, do they? Same idea.

Not that anon, but I still find year.month.day. to be infintely superior to both m/d/y and d/m/y, it's based on length of time and goes from largest to smallest, and is perfectly compatible with hour:minute:seconds as it is arranged the same way.
Our adress system also goes from largest to smallest, it's really just the most practical for administration and such, and the simplest, because it keeps things united.

You shrug your shoulders, wandering towards the display cases lined up against one corner of the room. You lean in to inspect the gems set at the forefront of the circlet in particular, and for an instant you could swear that the gems were staring back at you. “I figured I'd swing by to say hello, and I was hoping you could take a look at a few artifacts of mine. Although, maybe I'd be interested in checking out a few of these new artifacts you've put on display as well.

Hayes rubs his hands together excitedly. “Well you know I always love me some new artifacts. Whip 'em out and let me take a look at the goods.”

You reach into your cloak and gently extract the Shockwave Sword, making sure to draw off the heat being put off by the gem as it hits the open air. Despite this, the air around the gem still seems to distort, warping in strange ways. Like the sands of the desert in the midday sun. The blade itself seems to be vibrating, like at any moment it might explode into a thousand pieces. Despite all that, the worst part is without a doubt the gem itself. It glows with a painful intensity, just looking at it makes you feel like you're staring at the sun. You feel like one wrong move on your part might wipe out the entire Academy.

Hayes flips down his mask as soon as you reveal the hilt of the blade. “Fuckin' Gods above, Mik. What the hell did you do? You fill that thing to the brim or what? How much vys do you have stored in that gem?”

You shrug your shoulders. “I think a hundred and fifty? Give or take a few vys either way. Too much, from what I've gathered. You know I would just shove my hand into the cloak and grab hold of the hilt so I could pump it full of Vys, I never needed to actually pull it out. If I'd known, I would have avoided putting so much vys into the blade.”

He waves you away. “Well fuck, Mik. Put it away before you destroy the city. There's nothing Hayes can do with that, you just gotta drain the vys little by little until it's at a safer level, or release it all at once. Hayes feels the need ta warn yah, y'all might die in the process. Hayes can't imagine the blade would survive. It'd be real neat though.”

Next you withdraw the Hiacian Sabre, presenting the hilt to Hayes. “Could you take a look at this? I'm not entirely certain what on Earth it does but I know it was an officer's sword, or something like that.”

Hayes takes the sword and swings it around a few times, before channeling vys into the hilt of the sword. Oddly enough, nothing happens. Usually channeling vys into an artifact will activate it. Next, he walks up to one of his wooden double doors and raises the blade up over his head, taking a deep breath before swinging the blade.

When it makes contact with the wood there's a flash, and Hayes is sent stumbling backwards. The blade flies out of his hands but you manage to catch it with a simple manipulate spell and lower it gently into your hands. It's not immediately clear what happened, but a moment later the top half of the door simply slides away. The cut which bisects it smolders only slightly. Neat.

You tuck the sabre back into your cloak and lay it flat on the ground. When you whip it away the first time, your Warlock armor sits neatly piled on the floor. When you whip it away a second time, the hulking mass that is the Heavy Warlock Armor lays on the ground.

>>
>>38820757

Are you a filthy turk or a treacherous swede to be hate on Catherine the Great?
>>
Hayes spends a few minutes walking circles around the armors, looking at them from every imaginable angle. After circling the armors for what feels like a half hour he sighs, folding his arms in front of his chest. Another long silence passes before he points to the Heavy Warlock Armor. “That one is bigger than the other.” He nods, as if he's said something profound. “Definitely bigger, yup.”

You hold out your hands questioningly. “Is that it, you're just going to state the obvious? Come on, I thought you were an expert.”

Hayes scoffs. “Hayes ain't no special fancy schmancy expert! Hayes ain't willin' to try on any of this freaky deaky darkie armor yah got here so he can't really tell yah too much about it.”

With a sigh you let Ricky draw both of the armors into your cloak, and then drape it once more over your shoulders. Redressed, you gesture towards the display cases. “Why don't you explain to me what some of these new artifacts you have on display do, Hayes? I'm curious.”

Hayes grins wide, quite literally skipping across the workshop to stand next to the display case housing the circlet. “This 'ere is a good'un. Trust Hayes, he knows his stuff. It'll letcha see the future, briefly, and talk to other folk's minds. Visions ain't the clearest though. Hayes wore it for a few days and every night his dreams were all metaphor and simile and onomatopoeia and alliteration. Made no sense what-so-ever, and that's reall sayin' somethin' comin' from Hayes.”

He gestures next to the ruby pendant. “This 'ere lil' fella is a real beaut. Wouldn'tcha agree? Biggest ruby Hayes ever did see. Now, it's purpose is reeeal simple. All it does is store vys. Pump some vys on into it, it'll store it up tight. Might help ya alleviate that little sword problem ya got goin'.”

Finally Hayes jerks a thumb over his shoulder to indicate the harp. “No idea what that creepy fuckin' thing do.”

Unless I'm going senile, the first time you used the Hiacian Sabre/blade you never really figured out what the hell it did, you never tried it. I've always conceptualized it to have an immensely enhanced cutting edge, which at full charge extends beyond the blade itself.

You chew your lip for a moment. You really want to ask about the harp. You really, really want to ask about the harp. You want to gently pluck its strings, bringing forth the sweet, dulcet tones of demonic screeching. You resist the urge. “How much for the pendant and the circlet?”

Hayes rubs his hands together greedily, licking his lips slowly. It makes you a little uncomfortable, frankly. “Circlet is four hundred gold, the pendant is a hundred gold.”

Some quick mental arithmetic puts those numbers at six thousand silver for the circlet, and fifteen hundred silver for the pendant. You can afford both, barely, but it would damn near bankrupt you. You're sure you could haggle the price down, but honestly even if you got it down to four thousand silver total, which you doubt you could manage, that's still more of your funds than you're really comfortable spending.

You need some time to think about it. You need to distract haze. Reaching into your cloak you extract the strange gauntlet you found at the bottom of Longia's mineshaft, still attached to the forearm of the man who wore it. You hold it out to Hayes, who snatches it up almost immediately.

He stares at it intently, turning it over in his hands over and over again. When finally he speaks, it's without his usual lighthearted, insane, energy. “Where did you get this? Hayes gave a suit of armor to a Vatis sent on an expedition into the ruins in the mountains, this is apart of that suit of armor. The expedition ain't been heard from in months.”

>EEEEND THREAD!
>>
>>38821548

Just posting some thoughts here, since I never really get to participate in these threads

1.) can we create tattooes with the permanency effect to store vys or help improve our sanity score? I would love to see a tattooed as shit Mik glowing blue/red/green from all the goddamn vys stored.

2.) If not the above, once we learn how to store vys can we just enchant a shitload of rings/earrings/clothing to hold vys in reserve? If nothing else, we would be a walking tank of stored vys.

3.) Can we also store kinetic energy?

I have more, but they are as of yet unrefined.
