Apologies it’s been so long since last thread. Work, family and life conspired against me. Also I have man-flu today, I may be slower and/or dumber than usual.

This is the last Psychic Rebel Thread for the moment. After this the quest goes on hiatus for 3 months, back in July.

I will take a break for a week or so and then resume Paladin of Joy.

XP costs for realm upgrades added to business paste, there is a way to reduce XP costs at the bottom.

With everything here more or less done, it’s time to go back home. A brief conversation with Rainya and Dev reveals they too are ready to go home. Rainya wants *a real shower, soon*. The two start packing up what you’ll be taking back with you, and dismantling the camps temporary structures.

“C’mon” you say to Lirael “you can talk to Randolph later” you say to the young girl as she sits on her favourite rock, the vines wrapped around her.

“Do we have to go now?” she whines

“Yes” you say, as Lirael pulls herself out of the vines, grumbling, you hand her the tiny plant Randolph grew for you, in its makeshift plant-pot, adding “don’t worry, we’re going to see if Randolph will grow in the realm upstairs, so hopefully you can keep in contact with him.”

Lirael takes the plant gently and whispers to it “I’ll take good care of you Randolph, don’t worry.”

As Lirael croons to the plant, you head out looking for Kaelyn, finding her at the border between Randolph and the old forest.

“You ready to go?” you ask her, as she stares at the forest.

“Hmmm, what?” she says, starting as you speak, then her ears catch up with her brain “Oh, yes, I guess so.”

“You guess?” you ask, giving her a curious look.

“I dunno” she says, looking at the old forest thoughtfully “I just feel like there was more we could have done.”

“We can always come back another day” you point out.

“I suppose” says Kaelyn.

A few teleports later and you and your friends are back in the Waystation. Lirael immediately heads upstairs to your realm, Kaelyn goes with her. Dev starts unpacking stuff and piling it up depending on whether he thinks it can be cleaned and reused, needs fixing, or should be thrown away. Rainya goes to help him, splitting into several bodies as she does so, but also says to you “You should see Ms Carter, I think she has been a little mad over you being away.”

Leaving your friends to their tasks, you head downstairs to the restaurant, its mid-afternoon and the lunchtime rush has died down. You find Ms Carter in her office, typing away on her computer. She glances up briefly as you enter and then resumes typing, her fingers striking the keyboard with more ferocity and she seems to be scowling.

“Yes?” she asks brusquely “what is it? I’m very busy.”

Yeah she definitely sounds angry.

“I just wanted to see how everything had been in my absence.” Might as well start off with something generic you think.

“Everything’s fine” She says, not looking up from her screen.

“I wanted to explain” you say “about why I’ve been away.”

“Your friend Rainya told me” says Ms Carter “unavoidable family business wasn’t it?”

“Something like that” you say “but-”

“I’ve followed the King long enough” she sniffs “to know when to not ask questions, it’s no business of mine if the owner chooses to leave without an explanation, it’s no business of mine if she’s doing something she might need help with, or might get herself killed, or leave all of her employees who have worked at the Waystation for years without jobs suddenly. I just keep running the place, on my own, as best I can, and try to fend of queries from my co-workers, I just try to keep the place running, despite the owner running off who knows where without a care for the business.”

She doesn’t look at you as she speaks, just keeps hammering away at the keyboard. What she says might be true but it’s not the whole story, and you do care about the business, you open your mouth to explain, and then pause, wondering how much you want to tell her. Plus, that was rather rude.

“Ms Carter” you say. When she ignores you, you repeat yourself “Ms Carter!” and loom over her using your new height, leaning over the desk.

She jumps a little as your voice booms out in the tiny office, but to her credit does not flinch when she gets a good look at your larger, more imposing form.

“What...?” she starts to ask.

You brush aside her question “That was out of line” you say even, your fists resting on the desk “No matter your grievances Ms Carter, no matter how much cause you have to be unhappy with me, you will show me the respect due to me as your employer, am I understood?”

The two of you lock gazes briefly, and she looks away first “Of course Ms Hyul” she says, deferential, but not scared “I forget myself, my apologies.”

You pause for a moment and then continue “I was away on unavoidable business” you say “and was away for longer than expected, as to the question about my appearance, the King is generous to those who serve him.”

“Indeed” says Ms Carter, glancing at your now muscular form, your clothes stretched tight over your larger frame, you really should buy some new clothes. Maybe Dev has some you can borrow in the mean time.

“Everything went well I trust?” asks Ms Carter, giving you an invitation to elaborate upon your adventures.

“Well enough” you say “a few unexpected developments.”

“I’ll say” says Ms Carter under her breath, seemingly unaware of how sharp your hearing is, after a long look at your new figure, her cheeks tinged with pink.

“There was something else I wanted to talk to you about” you say to Ms Carter “I received the Waystation because the previous owner became a demon.”

“I recall” says Ms Carter, as cool and collected as normal, no trace of any embarrassment or anger.

“And I was wondering” you say “if any of the staff who followed the King harboured similar ambitions?”

“I can’t speak for the others” says Ms Carter “obviously”.

“Obviously” you echo “and I’ll ask them separately, do you Ms. Carter?”

Ms Carter gives you a long look, as if weighing up her response, finally saying “yes, although its considered ambitious and aiming high, yes I do.” Her voice sounds a little shaky.

The King of Hell offers 1 of 4 Gifts

To the Gates of Hell
Some call this power “Mob-Gathering Performance”. By talking to a group of people you convince them to follow you perform a task as you direct.
As a normal action make a persuasion check and spend 10 psychic energy points. You compare your persuasion check result to the Will check of the 10 closest people who can see and hear you. If your persuasion check exceeds their Will check by 10 or more then they follow you as a group until you stop leading or commanding them, or are not present for longer than 10 minutes, after this time they abandon whatever task you set for them and go back to what they were doing before. You can command larger groups by increasing the cost by 3 psychic energy points and taking a -2 penalty to the persuasion check per every 10 people affected over 10. Those affected see you as their rightful leader and will follow your commands to the exclusion of other commands, even taking serious risks at your orders. This is a telepathy effect.

Infernal Magic
You gain permanent bonuses to all psychic skills when harming others or forcing them to obey you, or healing your followers.
Your powers stain those affected with hellish energies, allowing infernal mages to mutate those affected.
(Corruption) It is almost impossible for anyone other than you to use the second effect on those affected by your *magic* and you can grant those affected Gifts you have, not just hell-themed mutations and powers.

Infernal Focus
You gain 3 Infernal Focus feats

Form of the King of Hell 3
You can assume 1 of several demonic appearances, taking upon the powers and forms of demons. This power lasts for a single encounter
Initially you can only use a single demonic form, but peripherals make the others available. Higher ranks upgrade all forms held. The available forms are:

Lokai (destroyer): A 3 metres-tall red muscular demon with leathery wings, claws and horns, and carrying an axe.

Hesan (corruptor): A gorgeous demonic form with delicate wings of skin and a long tail. Increases Charisma and can shapeshift to hide demonic features, retains access to mutation gifts.

Vasis (tormentor): A vast eyeball surrounded by a nest of tentacles. Boosts Intellect, perception and telepathy skills.

Skalogen (sorcerer): A tall figure in a long blue robe covered in arcane symbols and black-feathered wings. It has three faces, one on each side of the head, and one at the front. Boosts Willpower, psychic energy and all psychic skills.

Most of the forms (except Hesan) prevent the use of mutations from others of the Five (such as tentacles and fangs)
At level 4 or 5 most forms allow you to travel to Hell via teleporting. Travel to Hell is the same as any other teleport – you must know where in Hell you wish to go. Certain laces in Hell may be warded or protected, and the inhabitants may not appreciate uninvited guests.

If Form of the King of Hell is chosen a separate vote will pick the form taken this time, others may be purchased with XP

Best one for us and the only real non power based alt form we'd have. Getting Hesan and mixing it in with it later might let us keep the permanent stat boost via adaptive mutation and Hesan's shape shifting, but for now psy power is what we need.

Debatable since we use fellowship a lot. Hoenstly though I voted Skalogen as it's the only psy booster form we 've had a shot at to date. I would not be adverse to buying Hesan later and glomping it into Skalogen (Vasis too) so we could use it, all our other mutations and get the relevant stat boosts all at once. Still Skalogen is best for us right now no question.

A competent psi looking for us would find us in Hesan too.
He wouldn't try to rely on being able to pierce Illusion because our illusions have massive bonuses to them.
A competent psi would be clever enough to use mind reading.

After leaving Ms Carter in a combination of elated, fuming and possibly confused, you head up to your Realm.

A little searching allows you to locate Lirael, carefully replanting the part of Randolph she bought with her, far back from the beach, where the soul is deep and dark.

You crouch down next to her “Where’s Kaelyn?”

Lirael nods towards the beach house in the distance “sleeping I think”.

“How’s it going with the plant?” you ask.

“I can hear Randolph” says Lirael “but its quiet, like he’s really far away”

He is really far away, thousands of kilometres, but you don’t point that out. Instead you reach out with your thoughts, yes, you can just *barely* contacts Randolphs mind as well, but you can’t hear him clearly enough to communicate, just sense his presence.

“It depends upon what sort of powers you want” you say to Dev, describing the different powers you have, and what they can do for him.

After listening to your descriptions, and asking a few questions, Dev decides “I think the power to become stronger and tougher is a good place to start” he says “after that, I guess we’ll see, I need to try and learn one power set at a time I think, learning all of them at once would get really confusing.”

After an hour of tampering with Devs brain you have successfully awakened him to the power of Psychometabolism.

[Dev gains Enhance Ability, Shee loses 1XP, Dev can now spend XP on Psychometabolism powers]

“Wow” says Dev, trying his powers for the first time, and entertaining himself by lifting furniture with one hand, and bending metal objects “cool.”

Though not as strong as you, he’s clearly able to boost his strength, and with a little practise and training, he’ll be able to boost his speed and toughness too.
