After having witnessed three skeleton warriors digging their own graves and comfortably placing themselves in the resulting pits, you helped the rest of your group bury them.

It felt rather surreal.

The worst part is that it's still raining, and quite heavily. The last leg of your journey was under this inclement weather, and not only the impromptu and very shallow graves were already muddy and full of water when the skeletons laid themselves in, the very earth you had to push back in, without much in the way of tools, was pretty much mud.

You're dirty and drenched, not exactly the best condition for travel. At least Bryld got over her close encounter with the undead. Sort of. She's still somewhat distraught and twitchy and keeps staring at the spots where the earth was clearly moved. There's not much to say about that, though. Tahenohan seems quite confident that they will not rise again unless she wills it.

As you approach New Royo, you start to see a few lantern lights in the distance, past the showers, which are unlit and unguarded, but also devoid of anything of interest. You raise your own lantern as if to signal your presence and, hopefully, prove that you're not undead. About at that point you hear a familiar voice go "HALT! STAY WHERE YOU ARE!".

Some heavy splats in the mud later, Agnes approaches you, her hair collected into drenched and heavy twintails, a long sword with a solid blade out and a lantern hung to the side of her barded PecoPeco. Her own armour shines in the few light there is, and it takes her a moment to recognize you.

"Oh good, I was wondering if you were safe", she does sound somewhat relieved, but it's hard to see her expression clearly, "I heard some unnatural screams, what happened?".

She looks like she’s ready to do battle, if needed.

This thing.

It's a traditional knight mount in Prontera, although hilariously enough it's a much better fit in the Shadow Marches, since it's originally a tropical species of flightless bird.

"We encountered some skeleton warriors. Three of them", you calmly explain, noticing a glint in Agnes' eyes as her sword rapidly changes angle, wielded with a stronger, more determined grip. You'd almost say she's eager. "But Tahenohan tamed them".

As the half-elf jumps on the spot and waves her hand while going "Yaaay!", you're quite certain this is not the turn of events Agnes was expecting to hear. Her sword is still at the ready, but even her PecoPeco squirms a little uncomfortably, as if he's capable of understanding the conversation, or at least the general feel of it.

"You... Tamed them?".

"Yes".

"Skeleton warriors? Tamed?".

"Tahenohan is a necromancer".

Understanding washes over Agnes' expression and her sword droops a little as uncertain disappointment takes over her feelings, "Well... That would explain it. How can we be sure they will stay... Tamed?".

"They were in feral state", Tahenohan helpfully explains, "It's rather trivial to take control of non-intelligent undead that aren't under someone else's control. Unless the device used to raise them can also control them, but I guess that'll mean another activation, which will lit the sky up again".

"So we'll know if that happens, but it still can happen", she frowns, "Where are they?".

"Buried them back there", Tahenohan jerks her thumb backwards, "They'll stay there until I tell them otherwise".

“I’ve heard there’s been organized attacks up in Maner, but nothing here. I haven’t encountered any undead at all until I heard those screams”, Agnes then points at the not so distant lantern lights towards the town centre, “Go get in there and stay warm and safe, now that I know there’s undead around I can’t lower our guard, I’ll set up a stricter night watch”.

You’ve heard Maner already, it should be where the royal army’s advance camp is.

"Can we be of help?".

"I'd rather not", Agnes shakes her head, "I'm the captain of the Volunteers' brigade, you're civilians, you stay safe and sound, let me handle dangers. Besides, unless there's a sudden surprise attack on New Royo, I don't think we're going to need help".

"Maybe the undead are targeting the royal army?", you suggest.

"If they are, it means some of them are under control and not...".

"Feral".

"That. Still, it's odd, I don't really know what's going on, but I have to know if there's a danger to New Royo and won't lower the guard until I'm absolutely certain there isn't".

"You haven't seen any undead before? Since the pillar of light?".

Agnes shakes her head again, "Not one. I've heard some a few minutes ago, and it turns out they were three skeletons. Three. That's all there's been around these parts", she sounds disappointed.

"Where are Astreya and Luna? Are they safe?".

"Astreya is out scouting, she says she needs to check something. She travels at night because... Well that's how her magic works, I guess", she doesn't sound too sure, "I think she'll be fine, she can take care of herself". She then pauses, "I'm sorry, Luna who?".

"Were-dog? Architect?", you try.

"Oh!", a glint of understanding flashes on her eyes, "She's in town. We put a couple safehouses up in the most defensible positions, that's where we retreat at night, just follow the lights and you'll be set. I think she’s in there somewhere, or at least I’m sure she isn’t out, I haven’t seen her leave. She mentioned something about wanting to help at the barricades but I don’t know if her rifle will work well in this heavy rain, I heard they tend to malfunction".

You don’t know much about rifles yourself so you can’t really say anything about that. Still, Luna served in the military, she should know her stuff.

"Are you going to be okay?".

"Pffft", you can clearly see how amused Agnes is at your question, her lips are curled up, puffing her cheeks upwards as well and she's making an effort to not laugh, "Against what? The mighty army of the three skeletons? I told you, unless there's a massive invasion coming within moments we can handle everything perfectly. Heck, if three skeletons is all there is around I can send the volunteers to bed, I'll just take care of them myself".

Well, she does look quite confident, and she does have a war mount, armour and weapons. You can be certain that she faces much better odds than you do.

"When was Maner attacked? Do you have any information about the incident?".

"Look you really shouldn't stay out there to be drenched", and you can't really disagree with her, it's not very pleasant, "Go inside and get yourselves dry. If you want more info about Maner or anything else you really should ask the- Ah, right, she left".

"Who?", you ask.

"Afra and something else that I forgot, she has a long name", Agnes does make a bit of an effort to recall it but not too much, "A scout that helps the royal army out in Maner, she came back to warn us and give us a bit of information, but I think she went to check the caravanserai. If you're going to go back to Reboldeux, you'll meet her on your way there, I'm sure. Now go, go in, go before you get sick”.

Indeed, you’re not eager to get sick again, so you follow Agnes’ advice and go inside the safehouse.

It’s actually just a somewhat haphazardly fortified town hall, or at least the only large enough building that can act as such. Fortunately the population is so low that they can all fit in there... Although you guess only to sleep, because it’s not too comfortable. A makeshift pavillon has been built outside, sheltering those present from the rain, if a little bit. Most of them are young people, half-hiding behind an impromptu barricade.

The volunteers are all rather young, there are very few, very select exception but they're mostly in their early twenties, some might be younger than even that. Their armour isn't very heavy: padded cloth, leather, some people wear chain mail but they're the exception. They all wield some kind of pole weapon, you don't see anyone with a sword except at the side, but only few of them are carrying one. Daggers are a much more common sight, but they're relying more on their long sticks with sharp things on top to keep things at bay.

Things that aren't you, you do get flashed by several concerned lanterns and are forced to stop before you're hurriedly and confusedly approached by rather nervous people about your age that usher you and your friends inside where it's safe. Or so they say.

Once you enter the town hall, you notice that it's rather unimpressive, quite empty. Or maybe most of the things were moved out of the way in order make room for the refugees. Still, even considering the amazing amount of cots, cloth and various instruments scattered about, you don't think the whole town is in here, it's way too comfortable walking around.

Most people are either sleeping or trying to, or keeping themselves busy with something because they can't. Chess, checkers and other similar games are being played where possible.

You realize just now you're so wet you're dripping water at an amazing rate, and are making a pool that's quickly growing into an indoors lake, even though the foyer is already pretty damn wet.

If the rainy season is six months of these, you might have a problem.

“W-what now?”, Bryld wonders, trying to squeeze her clothes dry and failing miserably. You don’t even want to think of how Tahenohan’s hair got messy. Just try to not look at her. Just. Don’t.

You give one glance at Tahenohan's hair and- Aw, crap.

"What?", she asks, tilting her head as she stares at you with those manic eyes of hers, and in doing so she moves that convoluted, tangly mess she calls "hair", which you suppose is often and usually very close to some kind of eldritch abomination you only read about in certain weird tales written by recluses that can't deal with living with other people, but it's usually capable of being, if not combed, at least put in place to look "wild" instead of...

You don't think there's a word to describe what's on her head right now.

Deciding to let the issue aside you move around, looking for somewhere to change. Noticing your state, one of the volunteers stationed inside approaches you. She's definitely not twenty yet, with short brown hair and wearing a padded gambeson, she is carrying a long dagger at her side and no other weapons. Not that a polearm would be of much use indoors, even though the foyer is, in fact, large enough to think of swinging one.

"Here, come here", she urges you towards a dimly lit room behind a door left ajar right next to a desk, "You can go in there to change. Do you have a change of clothes? We can lend you some for the mean time".

She's helpful, but then you notice another volunteer half-sleeping on the aforementioned desk. She has black, messy hair, though nowhere near Tahenohan's level, and also looks very young. And short. And thin. Not very militia-like. She has bags under her eyes, and tries to pretend she was paying attention all along when the other girl's voice wakes her up.

Well, at least one of the two looks awake and attentive.

"How has the town been faring since the incident?", you ask.

"There's been a bit of panic, a resident magic user said it was a powerful necromancy spell and we should barricade just to be safe", she explains, "We've heard that Maner was attacked but there's been nothing over here. Still, Agnes says we can't lower our guard and we heard something... Quite chilling before".

She must be talking about the skeletons' scream. They are indeed rather bloodcurling.

"You're a volunteer, right? What's your name? I'm Lillith".

"I'm Anna, and, uh, this one is...", she turns to the other girl, who has seized the chance to put her dagger on the table and sharpen it... Or so she would if she could draw it, but it seems to be stuck and when she tries to pull it she accidentally drops her whetstone which, judging from the sound and the face she makes, hits her foot or something.

Anna makes a weird face which turns into a strange smile when she faces you again, "... Pleased to meet you, Lillith. Please go inside and get changed, I'll keep watch over the door, I'm sorry but that's all we can offer considering the situation".

"It's plenty, thank you", you assure her and move inside because you really, really want to get those wet, sticky clothes off you.

The room inside is dimly lit and quite empty. It has a fireplace which isn't burning, and is probably one of the many rooms meant to hold meetings but is practically devoid of furniture except for a couple chairs, where candles have been placed to provide some illumination.

The door closes behind you. You have some privacy.

“We... We really got back alive”, Bryld sighs in open relief as she starts undressing, too eager to get her wet clothes off to feel embarrassed.

“Of course”, Tahenohan shrugs, “I don’t think there was much of a threat to begin with”.

"Why not?", you wonder as you take your soggy clothes off. Damn they're so heavy, or maybe you're just so tired. Or maybe both. And the worst part is that you can't really make out your friends except for their poorly-lit outlines that leave a lot to the imagination.

On second thought that's not really a bad thing.

"Because if you want to raise an undead horde, you need to have a horde of corpses to raise", the half-elf explains as she struggles to get her clothes off, but between their soggy state and her messy hair she's having a lot more trouble than she should. Still, her muffled voice continues, "The last conflict ended ten years ago and I don't think much of the fighting happened where we are now. It makes sense there's little bodies".

Bryld too is now curiously staring at Tahenohan's attempts to get undressed. "Why didn't you say so?", you press.

"Because I didn't want to lull you into a false sense of security. What if we met some skeletons right when we set off? That'd be major bad luck but you'd think I was a liar or that I didn't know my stuff", she stumbles around, almost hitting a chair. She did manage to get her robes off halfway... Which means that from waist up she's tangled in a soggy mess and likely buried in her own, wet hair. Her voice is still muffled too, “That and the fact Maner was attacked means that there are some undead who are being actively controlled, so the responsible for this wide-area spell has a plan, but I don’t think it involves us”.

"... Should we help her?", Bryld wonders, her shirt unbuttoned but still on as she gives you a worried look.

“So... We’re safe?”, you ask before considering what to do with the half-elf, who is still struggling with her own clothes.

“Well I can always be wrong”, she adds in a playful, if muffled, voice, and you can hear her chuckle.

You give Bryld a glance and a nod and you both go join Tahenohan's struggle with her own clothes before she stumbles on a chair and topples it over and possibly burns herself. Not to mention having even less lighting than now would make everything much worse.

The two of you attempt to grab her soggy robes and wrangle them out of her form. It's actually a much more difficult task than it seems because she doesn't really cooperate. Or maybe she thinks she's cooperating but her movements are just too erratic, and more often than not you're wary of tugging or pulling because she goes "Ow!" and you find out you were actually grasping strands of her tangled hair instead of her soggy robe. Which is also quite darn heavy, and not thanks to the skull decorations. Which don't help in making this an easy task.

Bryld, on her own hand, is trying her best at getting a grip but is having trouble not getting in Tahenohan's way. The floor is also rather slippery and you're at risk of actually slipping down and falling.

Well, not you, you have a long, slender tail that is great for balance and you're very thankful of having one in moments like these. Ever since you were a kid you've had plenty of chances to see and prove that it's a distinct disadvantage in terms of balance over not having one.

Pity that Bryld does have one, but it's too short to be of any use, or maybe she just has a poor sense of balance because she's not helping much.

“This is harder than it looks, how did you get this stuck?”, Bryld wonders in frustration.

“It’s my robes! They’re soggy!”, she unhelpfully answers.

When brawn fails, it's time for smarts. You need a plan to solve this crisis and you have to use a limited amount of tools to do that.

"Hold still, Tahe", you ask her, anything you're going to try is pointless if she doesn't cooperate. And she doesn't. "I said hold still!", you have to raise your voice because you suspect she isn't hearing you.

"Huh?", her muffled voice comes from the inside.

"Follow our lead", and you bring her towards one of the chairs, moving ahead to get the candle out of the way; you definitely don't want her to burn her naked buttocks, even though you are all in need of a fire to get dry. You idly wonder if you can ask the volunteer outside to lit the fireplace as you try to get Tahenohan to sit.

"Alright. Bryld, you have the most slender fingers, try to get a grip on her robe without getting her hair too", you tell the werebunny, "Tahe, raise your arms and let her do her thing, okay?".

Some muffled answer comes from her, it's too long to be a "yes" but you don't quite understand it, so you just presume it's some form of agreement and give Bryld a nod so she can continue.

While Bryld pulls from above, you hold Tahenohan to her chair, preventing her from just up and moving, and trying to help the robes out from below.

This plan has much better chances of working and sees some instant progress. Or, well, at least from you side; her belly, her small and lean breasts, her surprisingly smooth armpits all become visible in a matter of a few moments. Unfortunately, it gets stuck at her chin and she starts going "Ow!" as her hair gets tangled somewhere.

“It’s getting hard to pull”, Bryld complains, still grasping the edges of Tahenohan’s robe. From the way it drops, you guess it’s really heavy by now.

>Switch with Bryld, it's a matter of brawn now.

You have to get on a better position to do this, just pulling like this won't do.

"Bryld, go around behind her and pull from there, I'll help you from the other side", you tell her, and she follows suit. You use your own weight to keep Tahenohan down on her chair and prevent her from toppling, by sitting on her lap.

"Ok", you continue, trying to slip your hands beneath the robe, "Now try and pull the robe up bit by bit, I'll try to untangle her hair and ears from below. Don't just grab the edges, put more force in it".

"I'll try", she assures you, and you resume your mission of trying to get Tahenohan naked. You never would have thought it would be that difficult, she used to slip out of these robes with such ease before, you wonder how it is possible that just a bit of rain could-

Well, honestly, that was a lot of rain, and your hands are drenched just trying to get beneath the collar. Tahenohan's whole body is wet, and so is yours too, and in this slippery situation all of the groping is accidental and unintentional of course.

Okay, most of that, sometimes your hand kind of slipped where it shouldn't have, but it seems to tickle her more than anything.

Actually...

You keep tickling her, and she jolts irregularly, laughing weirdly while Bryld stops, giving you a confused look.

"Keep pulling!", you urge her, and she does, and eventually Tahenohan's head pops free, after the robe tried to pull her nose off.

"Ow, ow", she complains as her tangled, messy hair flows out of her clothes, but does so with a broad smile as she stares at you.

"Is it my turn now?", she has an odd look in her eye...

>It’s not the time to let Tahenohan undress you, decline.
>Sure, it’s only fair.
>Why, you think Bryld needs some help with her own clothes.
>”What happened to your hair? It’s a mess!”.
>”How come your robe was so difficult to pull off?”.
>Peek outside and ask the volunteer if you can lit the fireplace.
>Other?

"For the love of Nao, what happened to your hair?", even in the dim light it's clear that it's in an even worse state than before. Actually, is it moving? It looks like it's thriving in some kind of weird state that ordinary hair shouldn't have, and it's kind of creepy, especially when it's this close to you.

Of course, the half-elf doesn't seem to mind and her grabby hands are instead already grabbing at your half-off clothes, helping you finish undressing, starting by pulling your own shirt off before pressing her face against your wet breasts as her arms wrap around you and tickle your lower back, where warm jolts are sent up your spine as her fingers grasp the base of your tail, intentionally or not, to undo the button you have on the back, which is actually rather common since more people than you'd think have a tail.

Bryld watches the half-elf undress you with a certain degree of concern, especially where you have to get up on your own or she'd have practically pushed you to the ground just to take your trousers off, "By the way Tahe", you're used enough to her shenanigans that you don't really mind as much as the wererabbit does, "How come your robe was so difficult to pull off? It's usually a breeze".

"It gets heavy and shrinks when it's wet", she explains with a shrug, still doing her grabby hands and manic smile even though you don't have anything to remove any more, "I don't know why, must be the fabric".

"Er... Why don't you help Bryld get undressed while I ask something? I'll see if we can lit the fireplace". Bryld freezes halfway as you suggest that course of action, and locks eyes with the half-elf but a moment later.

You knock and open the door just enough to peek outside with your face, carefully keeping the rest of your body. Anna is still outside, ready to answer.

"Excuse me", you answer, trying to cover the commotion behind you with your voice, "Can we lit the fireplace?".

“Oh, sure, give me a moment...”.

Oh boy, I'm sure we won't show her anything seemingly lewd at all.

The volunteer fetches some flint and iron and a bit of firestarter in the form of four white, sandy tablets. There's already some firewood in the fireplace and Anna assures you it's dry, so you should be able to get it lit no problem. "It's not much, but it should be enough to get you dry. I'm sorry, most of the people were already here or... Well, they just barricaded their own houses".

"So not everyone is here?", it's just confirming the feeling you had, and the volunteer nods.

"Some people feel there's no real danger, or don't want to stay all in one place. Captain Agnes says it shouldn't be a problem and she organized a few patrols to make sure we never actually leave them... Alone...?".

Of course the volunteer must be hearing the commotion and the strange moan-like sounds and ruckus that Tahenohan is doing while she strips Bryld naked. You keep staring straight at the girl's face until she stops trying to imagine what's going on behind you and just hands over the supplies.

"Thank you", and you smile, closing the door before she gets any weirder ideas.

Starting the fire isn't difficult, those tablets are really handy: you're not sure how they're made or where but they burn very fast and very brightly, which is of course only good enough to start a fire.

Good thing you really have the firewood. Your clothes will probably need to be thoroughly washed, also because they're dirty with mud and possibly stained already, but you can always fix that tomorrow or another day. Laundry shouldn't be a problem.

You're all sitting in front of the fire, and can't help but notice that Bryld keps glaring at you as she hugs her legs, pressing her quite ample breasts against her knees. Not at Tahenohan who did the actual molesting, but straight at you.

>”Sorry?”.
>”What, I thought you actually needed help”.
>”So what do you think we should do now?”.
>”We should stay here for a while”.
>”We should head back to Reboldeux”.
>Other?

"Sorry", you tell her, trying to not make too much of an obvious grin, "I thought it'd be funny".

"It was!", Tahenohan's agreement doesn't really help much with the situation. Or maybe it does. At least Bryld is now glaring at the fire instead of you.

"So what now?", she scoffs, to change the topic.

"Well, I don't know. We find a bed and put some dry clothes on-".

"No, I mean", she sighs, "We ran away from an undead horde who may or may not have actually existed, what now? Are we going to go back and explore? There might actually be more undead, even if they're not a horde. Or do we cancel and just bring back what little we have?".

You may have not considered your plans that far through, and Bryld does raise a valid point, "What do you suggest?".

"I don't think it's safe to go exploring now", she declares, "Not without an escort that we cannot afford. I say we jot down a tentative map of the area we've explored and bring that back. We should still get paid, even if not much".

You remember they mentioned something about the Exploration Charters being possibly handed to the actual Shadow Marches as soon as they got a government back, you should ask if there's a marquise already or not. It's important enough that someone is bound to know.

“Going back to Reboldeux is going to take a couple days, maybe we should wait this thunderstorm out first, I don’t think it will last long. This is supposed to be the dry season after all”.

“I’m not sure I want to see how bad the wet season is, then”, and Bryld gives a frustrated sigh, hugging her legs closer and pressing her breasts even more. That’s plenty of fat, but then again everyone looks plump next to Tahenohan, who’s as skinny as she can get before being unhealthy.

"What do we do then?", Tahenohan asks, a hint of excitement in her voice, "After we do the map and bring it back?".

You sigh, a smile on your lips, "One quest at a time, Tahe. One quest at a time".

And that's it for Episode 26!

Thank you for participating. Next time we'll tackle what you're actually going to do now that the undead danger is no longer pressing. Or not as pressing as before.

Whoops. Our bunnybutt is steamed.

... I actually kind of like that: she's been gaining a lot of fire.

Anyways, she has a point. We should see if we can get an escort to the next village: Bryld can map the path along the way, and we can do censoring stuff.
