It feels really weird to sleep in such a massive, expensive looking place, but you don’t want to offend anyone. “I’d be honored to stay tonight.”

“Excellent,” the king looks down at you happily. “We’ll have everyone shown to their rooms. I must apologize for the state of things though, I’m afraid we haven’t had much time to prepare.”

Servants appear out of nowhere are start taking everyone’s bags. It’s a very alien feeling to have strangers touching your stuff. Everyone is escorted to rooms in the same hallway. The queen comes with you specifically though. She follows you into your room.

“I want to apologize,” she says as she moves about the room. “I know this must be very hard for you. I know I’ve probably been overbearing. In my heart of hearts though, I know it’s you. It has to be.” She adjusts a painting. “I suppose I just wanted to say that. Your father and I will support you no matter what path you choose in life, because that’s what family does.” You see that desperate look in her eyes again, but it fades as she sees your face. “I’m sorry. I’ve done it again. I just... I just hope it’s true.”

This is awkward. She came to apologize for being overbearing about it, and then she goes and does it some more. You can’t help but feel for her though.

“I’d be lying if I said I never dreamed of this. Being a princess...having a family like this. I feel the same as you, I just don’t want to get any hopes up right now. We have to accept the possibility it isn’t true.”

She nods and holds back a tear. “Yes, yes, of course.”

“But even if it isn’t, whatever happens I've enjoyed my stay and I've come to like everyone around here. I hope we can at least stay in contact-”

She hugs you tightly. “Oh Sera. Kat. Dear. Thank you. Thank you.” She eventually pulls away and fumbles with the door. “I’m so sorry. Thank you.”

She leaves you alone with your thoughts in the massive bedroom. You sit on the bed, collecting yourself. You’re pretty sure there’s more material in this one mattress than all of the beds at the orphanage combined.

You take out all of your Pokemon. It seems like a waste to have all this space and not take advantage of it.

Each pokemon greets you excitedly. Devon licks your face and makes it hard to get the other Pokeballs. Vlad flies around the room at a distracting speed, but somehow avoids crashing into anything. Nibbles licks you too, but almost lifts you off the ground when doing it. He settles in next to the bed. Raistlin looks around the room curiously, like he’s somehow mentally looking up the history behind each painting, bust, and object. Trunks cackles around before cutely cuddling your leg. He checks under the bed and dresser for either prey or something else, you’re not sure. Destiny leaps into your arms and bubbles happily.

“Raistlin, how was your time out in the field?”

He beams a picture into your head. You can see the events from his point of view, but they’re not that clear. From the general gist of you, you see him teleporting near the enemy flag. He’s caught off guard by a large purple Pokemon, but he takes it out with psychic attacks and decides to grab the flag and go. He keeps teleporting through the bushes, but even he gets tired from doing that so often. Just when he’s taking a small two second break, he’s ambushed by a Drapion. He feels like he might have been able to take it if he wasn’t surprised.

“You did a great job, Riastlin!” You cover him in praise. “You got the flag most of the way there.”

He looks happy. He somehow lets you know that he’s ‘talking’ with Clair right now too. She’s been checking on Vance. He’s doing well physically, but feels like he could have done a lot better.

You curl up with each of your Pokemon and fall asleep feeling safe from the outside world. It’s surprisingly comfortable.

You wake up the next morning to a small shriek. A maid carrying your freshly washed clothes has scrambled into a corner of the room. Devon is growling at her every time she tries to step out of it.

“And that’s all?”

“Yes, I swear!” Her voice shakes as Devon maintains his low growl.

You trust Devon, but he might just be protective of you because a stranger approached while you slept.

Seeming satisfied that your things are fine, you pull out a brush and use it on Devon. “That sounds interesting.” You stretch. “I guess I’ve kept you long enough. I’ll let you go do your other duties.”

She quickly bows out, keeping a close watch on any movements that might upset Devon.

As soon as she closes the door, you check over your clothes. You go over every little seem and nook.

A small device falls out. It looks like the one you found before when you left Harmony Mountain after discovering the secret Team Imperium base.

You look around the room and find a pen and paper. You hastily write a note about the bug so you have something to show to your friends.

What are you going to do next? The maid is out in the hallway walking away.

You slip the device into your pocket and put your clothes on. At least whoever did this won’t know you’re on to them.

He shakes his head. She’s...not picking up, for lack of a better term. You see a mental picture of the castle that represented her mind before. It looks the same, but the lights are all out. You hope he’s trying to tell you she’s asleep.

You show her the note, but talk naturally. “Nothing much, just thought I’d say hi,” you tell her as she reads it over.

She nods in understanding, but you can tell she’s very weirded out. “I’ll...go get everyone and we can talk about...what we want to do today.”

You wait for her gather everyone. She comes back shortly after. You can tell by the way they’re acting that she’s filled them in.

When you come back, Vance is the first to speak. “So what are-”

You cut him off and make a gesture for him to pat himself down. You do the same for everyone else.

You help search Robin. You know. To be helpful. You take a long time to make sure there isn’t anything on her. “K-Kat!” Her voice protests, but her body reacts. She arcs her back in that way that you know means she wants-

“I think we’re good,” Jeanine says as you feel Robin’s hot breath on your shoulder. "You can stop now."

You leave Robin all bothered and turn to everyone. “We need to find some clues. I don’t like this one bit.”

“Right,” Clair agrees. “We should search for clues. I’ll go find the prince.”

Jeanine leans on her boyfriend. “Vance and I will check with the other servants. See if there’s anything there.”

Robin looks to the bathroom. “I can look at the device. It has to be transmitting somewhere.” She's still blushing hard.

You and your friends split up and get to work. You easily find Raistlin. Nobody seems to be paying him too much attention. You guess that makes sense. You see Pokemon on their own in the halls a lot, usually carrying something or sweeping hard to reach places.

When nobody else is around, you peak into the room he’s outside of. It’s a laundry hamper.

You see the maid just folding laundry with a Pokemon helping her. You keep watch for awhile, looking for anything suspicious. After a good long while, you leave. She doesn’t seem to be up to anything right now.

You head to find the king and queen next.

“Oh! You’re awake early,” the king is eating a small breakfast while going over some notes.

The queen looks up at you. “I hope you slept well. We should have the results back soon.”

You produce the bug and note. Their eyes scan over both, turning serious.

The king picks the bug up and inspects it. He hands it to a servant who takes it away carefully. When it’s out of reach, he summons another servant. “I want all security footage checked. All guards are to be on alert, and every room in the palace swept from top to bottom.” He looks at you. “I promise we’ll get to the bottom of this.”

The queen looks shaken. “You must think us very strange or harsh. First the incident with our guard, Lucius, now this.”

“It’s fine,” you assure her. “It’s not that different from anything else going on in my life.” You want to focus on this first. “Have you had any problems with Team Imperium?”

They exchange a look and shrug. “Who?”

“A criminal gang, operating on the mainland.” A servant, one they apparently trust, fills them in.

“Oh my, heavens no,” the queen says. “Crime is a blight in all places, but we’ve never had them here that we’re aware of.”

“What about palace security? Any recent problems?”

They don’t seem to know. The king summons a guard and asks him about any recent incidents.

“We did find something, your grace. Lucius didn’t leave until very late yesterday.”

The king raises an eyebrow. “He walked around here freely after being suspended.”

The guard looks incredibly uncomfortable. “Nobody wanted to confront him, sir. I only learned of this myself this morning.”

The king and queen sigh.

Another servant comes in. “I apologize for interrupting, but you wished to be notified if Professor Cedar called.”

The queen lights up. Even the king looks momentarily less stressed. “Yes yes, what did he have to say?”

“He wishes to speak to the girl, sir. Medical history.”

All eyes fall on you.

“I’d like Robin to come with me, if that’s alright.”

“Certainly my dear. We’ll have someone fetch her and meet you there.” He waves over a servant. “Anything you need.”

You wait outside the room with the gigantic phone screen. It feels like forever before Robin arrives.

“I think we can narrow down the frequency it’s on,” she says. “Then we can look for specific receivers that are tuned to that frequency.”

You nod your head. You think you have a vague idea what she’s talking about. You tell her that Professor Cedar wanted to talk about your medical history.

“Oh. Did they say why?”

You shake your head. She takes your hand and you both go inside. The screen is already on, and a warm fireplace glows off to the side. It’s just you, Robin, and the screen.

“Ah, there you are,” Professor Cedar’s face looks down from the gigantic screen. “Oh, an you brought a friend.” He looks off screen for a second, like he’s checking something. “Ah, that’s alright then. So, Kat, the results are in.”
