>Mission Briefing

Flare Cuvic, wanzer mechanic and pilot for the Iscariot Vigilante Company, has been captured and made a prisoner of the planet Tyhra. She is sentenced to forced competition in the Gladiatorial Games of the Holy Skiev Empire, along with five other incarcerated squad members of a group known as the Red Pack. Various circumstances have led her to accept the first of many missions from the mysterious Supplier, which has just recently ended in success.

We now rejoin her in the aftermath of battle...

Your mousy client, Anya Greaves, is standing in front of you. To your left and right, your temporary companions have all lined up. The orc is still holding his gun, eyes shifty and waiting for the next opponent, while the tiny sombrero-and-poncho man is shaking a bit of dust and blood off of his shoulder.

"This mission has been a complete and total success! With all of your help, I've been able to deliver the package to this location with only a minor inconvenience on all of us! Thank you!" squeaks the woman in front of you, clapping her hands together. "Now, as the Head of Research and Development for my Military-Industrial Complex, I have just now authorized myself to give you all...your rewards! Barbo Pequino, the information you want will be waiting for you back at your home base. Adam Denton, we have your bionic prosthetics waiting for pick up at any of our fine commercial stores! Corvo, while I wasn't quite able to provide you with the specific parts you wanted, my company has wired funds to the Supplier. They'll be more than happy to take care of your needs."

"As for you, Miss Cuvic..." Ugh, you still hate hearing that. You adjust your shades, staring right into Anya's eyes. "You did such a wonderful job with that wanzer that our company has chosen to give you two options. The first option is to take the separate parts, which would have been industry-standard wanzer equipment for you and your squad. That wanzer, however, is one of Greaves Military-Industry Complex's top of the line Shunhauser mechs! The only parts missing from that machine are arm units, and they're only missing due to the weight imbalance they would provide to the twin Vulcan guns. So..."

"Do you want to get the parts, or do you want to keep the wanzer?"

>Keep White Glint?
>I can't type yes enough. This baby's gold. (If you want to rename White Glint, you may type in a new name and roll 1d100. Highest roll wins...if this option is picked.)

Gods, it was such a good ride...but you're a squad leader, now. You can't just throw your team under the bus like that. And there's the upcoming match, tomorrow. Fuck, you don't even know how that's going to go. "I like your chickenwalker, but my team needs parts. That said, I'm going to need extra."

"Extra?" She asks.

"That's right. I think I did more than just pull my weight, out there. If I didn't get you that datapad, we wouldn't have known what enemies we would have faced. And a two-on-one against those enemies? I made it look easy, but they were piloting some high-class stuff. Probably ex-military, from the looks of it. To put it another way, I'm trying to get some fucking customer loyalty deal in with you. I want your shit, and if your shit's good, me and the team might consider buying more from you through the Supplier. Any chance we can work out a deal?"

These shades must have been enhanced with pheromone agents or something. Your client looks right into your eyes, purses her lips...and nods. "Alright. We'll give you a complete set of industry parts for five wanzers, along with an extra set of all-purpose parts. We'll be expecting you to buy from us in the future, should you need it, Miss Cuvic!"

I won't argue with your first point in concept, but Wanzer rolls off the tongue pretty smoothly for two syllables. I doubt it'd make enough difference.

You clearly can't go back the way you came, but Anya had prepared for that. She loads you and the rest of the goons onto a commercial van, driven by one of her employees. At the passenger side front seat sits a metal briefcase.

The ride back is somewhat quiet, with the only disturbance being when the van was stopped by the city guards. You tried to make yourself as hidden as possible while the driver exchanged the briefcase to them. "...looks like everything checks out. Thank you, and please move on."

After that, your ride stops a small ways into a dark alley. "This is your stop, guys. On behalf of the Greaves Military-Industry Complex, I would like to thank you for your services rendered. We've never met."

As nice as today has been, you're more than happy to go home and get drunk in private. You know that there won't be any risk of people - alright, there's a low risk of people shooting you in your home base. Without saying a word, the other mercenaries nod to you and disappear in the crowd.

All save for Corvo, who was already getting flagged down by one of the Underdeck's military police. You take this chance to slip into the back alleys before anyone can notice you, heading toward the Southern Exit. This third trip through the Underdeck's back streets was just as easy as the first two. Maybe you're getting used to this city? Or maybe people are just smart enough to know not to fuck with you? Either way, you're back at the Southern Vehicle Park within the hour.

Myl's jeep is still there. Some small part of you wished that there was someone trying to hijack it - someone with a really nice ride that you could have taken in exchange. Oh, well. Undoing the little wheel-jack, you get yourself back behind the wheel, take your holster harness off, tuck it under the passenger seat, and start heading out through the South Gate.

Passing through the checkpoint is much easier when you've got shades and a low ponytail to 'disguise' your head. The guards don't even bat an eyelid as you pass by.

---

You arrive at the Warehouse in the middle of a frenzied unloading. At the entrance to the warehouse were three long trucks, with forklifts and workers unloading crate after crate of long parts. Your squad was right in the thick of it, directed by none other than Myl. "Gitcher rears in gear, people! Y'all got 'round six hours before th' match, so we need t'pick up th' pace, y'hear!?"

That didn't sound good. You adjust your harness, hop out of the jeep, and walk over to Myl's side. "These the new parts? You're acting like we've got a fucking deadline, Myl."

"Gah! Oh, it's you, Sparky. Well, we got a deadline, alright, but first, lemme ask how the thing with th' Supplier went. Ah know ya did good, since we got th' parts an' all, but I wanna hear y'all tell me how it went."

"Alright. I guess I'll start first. You don't need to know what the fuck happened, but I got us a back-door business partner. If we need shit, they should be the ones we call up first. We can do all of the contacting and shit through the Supplier, since we're not exactly free, over here. First order of business? We sure as fuck are getting industry-spec cockpits and dashboards. I don't give half a shit if you approve or not - I want to feel my cunt breathe." You say, only half jokingly.

"Awright. That's actually pretty good, cap'n. Ah'd ask y'all where ya got that iron on yer side, but it ain't important, now. Hot-shot, ah just got some correspondence from our happy overseers. Yer opponents musta pulled some strings behind the scenes, 'cuz yer match is happenin' at sunset. Sunset, TODAY." said Myl tersely. She paused to check back behind her, then continued. "They got an arena set up in the Underdeck, an' the Lieutenant that'cha headbutted is gonna come pick you and Nahn up in about...five hours, hereabouts? Ah'm tryin' ta see the bright side and keep on bein' cheery, but even yers truly cain't work her magic that fast!"

The Greaves workers were almost done with unloading parts, and some of them were already packing up to go home. Damn it, you could have used their help.

Wait. You don't need their help. This is easy. Hell, you've had to kit up a whole fucking wanzer in under thirty minutes, before! The main components to the outer hull of any wanzer would be the armor and the cooling system. Each unit - the arms, the legs, the cockpit, the battery pack, and the central chassis - need some sort of coolant so as not to overheat in the middle of the operation. Then there's the armor; these parts have an outer mesh of colbat and tungsten, with an underlayer of rubidium. That should make it easier to take a few blows, even with how flimsy the legs look.

The inner wiring is a different story. Most wanzer manufacturing companies have their own custom loadouts for the inner workings of the onboard computer, even if the dashboard has the standard layout. Good mechanics learn quickly to rewire these loadouts as fast as they can, since operating a prefab mech is like signing yourself up for a death warrant. In turn, some of the more competent companies have made it easier to rewire their wanzers so that their clients won't have so much trouble with it.

The Greaves Mil-In is not one of those companies. Fuck.

You've got your work cut out for you, at least. In the sweltering heat of the Warehouse, you and your crew get to work. You and Myl take to gutting out the inner wiring, while the rest of the Pack works on installing and adjusting the outer parts.

Almost immediately, the boys start having trouble with their work. More than a few times, Nahn and Sofia are forced to help Roy and Deks with their fumbles, from dropping a key piston to dropping a whole arm. You're just glad that your girls are so on the ball that they catch these slip-ups before they do any major damage. The arms, the legs, and the battery pack are all installed to the central chassis.

You and Myl work side by side, fixing up your respective cockpits. While you work, you notice that there's a small, black box near the center of the dashboard's control wires. "Oh, shit, an AI. Either they've really got faith in us, or they're keeping eyes on us." You murmur.

Myl hasn't said anything, yet. Either she didn't notice, or she doesn't think it's a big deal.

Luckily, I voted to remove keba - I mean, AI.

Nothing good can come of it, honestly. AI will do some really stupid shit that is something that, while it makes sense to do it, goes opposite of what we are planning to do and completely ruins everything.

Or they could packetbomb the thing or something.

Or they are in charge of the AI from the start and use it to sabotage us.
>>
>>39291654
Question would removing the ai cost time? cause that was my whole premise. If it doesn't remove it.
>>
>>39291235
You don't have enough time to dick around with this. Well, you do, since the installing is going on schedule, but the wiring nightmare is something you'd rather avoid doing. Besides, an onboard AI would probably help out with the next match, so long as it isn't in the way.

Both wanzers' cockpits are configured to more sensible positions. The seats are adjusted to fit the people who are going to ride them. After that, it was a simple matter of inserting the cockpits into the central chassis and everything would be good to go. You and Myl take things into your own hands, directing the wanzers and installing the parts by hand.

All in all, the process took about four hours. The rest of your team, winded from the heavy workload of the day, are all trying to catch their breaths in front of the newly-built wanzers. Even you're somewhat tired, though you could catch your second wind if you just took a second to breathe. "Alright, team. We've got one hour until me and Nahn have to go do shit. For now..."

No rest for the weary. Any good mechanic knows to test run their wanzers before putting it in the way of live fire. Picking Nahn up from her seat on a crate, you point over to her brand new wanzer. "Saddle up. We've got to test these babies before we get into the match."

"Y-yes, ma'am..." Nahn says, giving a more weary version of her usual salute. You'd regret this decision more if it wasn't crunch time. Both of you climb aboard your new mechs, settling in before closing the hatch. Just like you expected, the upgraded parts are a dream. It's a step down from the White Glint Shunmacher that you were operating four hours ago, but there seats are comfy and the controls work fine. The controls are still pedals, a gear shift lever, and the two joysticks, but there are now proper readouts for the conditions of your parts. There isn't a monitor that flips down from above you, but that's an improvement, at this point.

The ignition was a set of switches - one for the battery backpack, one for the coolant system, one for the cockpit, and one for the endoskeleton.

You flip each switch in turn, activating the wanzer...

>>39292527
Fucking hell. Your wanzer's got one of the most annoying AI out there. At the very least, the monitor that holds your minimap and other important read-outs is smack-dab in the middle of your dashboard, but that voice...that FUCKING VOICE!

Nahn radios in on her comm. "Captain, I've got my system up and ready. The AI's a little nasal, but she's really helping out with turning everything on!" She says happily. Well, at least one of you is enjoying this shit. Ignoring the chipper little voice that was still yammering away in your ears, you move your wanzers out to the front of the Warehouse. Your targets were still there, it seemed, complete with bullet holes and all. There was also just enough debris laying around for a mobility test, it seemed. "Alright. Nahn, get into position. We're going to do some light exercises in the mechs. First up - movement. Follow my lead."

With your tune-up to the wanzer's control system, you feel right at home with Fyanna's new parts. She responds just a little bit faster than before, turning and moving with ease. When you put your foot on the pedal, the machine isn't fighting against you - it's working with you. The gearshift lever is lighter, as well, and the new mech just feels like it's better-balanced. It's not quite the dreamboat that you want it to be, but your wanzer's looking more than fine from where you're sitting.

Turning around, you see Nahn moving with just a little bit of trouble, sidestepping the debris a few seconds too late. "Nahn, what's the matter? Is the AI fucking you over?" You ask. "N-no, ma'am! Everything's fine!" Her voice sounded a little ragged. Maybe now would be a good time for a break...

Nahn's hand is still on the comm. You can tell because you can still hear her breathing heavily, making small whining noises under her breath. Damn it, this isn't even that hard!

"Get your shit together, Nahn. We just have to test out the shooting and we'll be good to go."
"Yes, ma'am..."

Lining yourselves up in front of the targets, you prepare yourselves for shooting. The onboard AI lets out a happy chime https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tfmgBhGRJeE, tinting the cockpit's front window a bit before creating a targeting reticule on the fake enemy. "Lock-on!" The simulated voice chirps. Yeah, the first chance you get, you're going to tear that shit out.

Your wanzer's revolver is now housed in a snug compartment in your right forearm, for ease of use. The revolver also has a few cases of ammo stored in your left forearm, so that you can load your gun quickly and without any worries. Twirling the huge iron around your wanzer's finger, you let out a few quick shots from your hip. The AI's autocorrecting system kicks in, making minor adjustments to how you hold out the gun, and...oooh, nice. Just shy of a bullseye.

Meanwhile, Nahn's fatigue really is starting to get to her. Even with the autocorrection and the AI assistance, her aim is sloppy. It might be because of her wanzer's machine gun, or it might be because of her new parts; nevertheless, her bullets fly wide from the mark. At least she's hitting the targets.

"Alright. That's enough, for now. Nahn, line up beside me and power down your wanzer. We've got five minutes until the chopper transport comes here, so let's get ready for it." You say. Nahn breathes out a sigh of relief, falling in line with your wanzer before powering down.

Once everything's been turned off (The AI's even got an annoying power-down chime!), you open up the cockpit and step out of the wanzer. Your preppy squadmate slumps over the side of her cockpit's lip, looking utterly flustered. "C-captain, I don't...I'm not sure I can handle this..." She pants.

It dawns on you that her fatigue might not just be because of the heavy workload of the day.

You beckon Nahn over to your wanzer, sitting down on your foot. Myl saunters out with two tall glasses of water for you, placing them in your hands before walking away. Nahn just stands in front of you while you both drink, but you can tell that she wants to sit.

"Nahn...sit your ass down. I'm your CO, but I'm also a human being. I'm not about to cut your tits off if you don't stand at attention for thirty minutes or some shit. Come on, pop a squat. Talk to me." There were tiny dots, in the distance. If she didn't take a break now, she might not get a chance to do so later.

The young militant girl nods, holding her cup gingerly as she sat down. Even the way she sat was filled with this nervous tension. Her body was scrunched up, her shoulders were stiff as boards...you just wanted to massage the girl, but that probably wouldn't have ended well for anyone. "Ma'am...Miss Cuvic, I don't think - I mean, I performed poorly, in the last match, and it's only been two days since then. What if I mess up here? I could die! I know you won't let that happen, but now I'm scared that I might let you down, too. I'm sorry, ma'am - I just haven't been able to catch my breath, and everything's just going wrong, and I just can't take it!" whined Nahn, her body visibly trembling from a mixture of fear, doubt, and anxiety.

Before she could react, you turn Nahn so that her back is facing you before placing your hands on her shoulders. Calloused fingers don't quite lead to as good a massage as you'd like, but Bullseye Squad's medic always swore by a massage or two before battle. Okay, she was a little weird, praying to her lowercase T all the time, but you didn't really question it. In response to your touch, the dark-haired girl lets out a high-pitched 'meep', followed by a fluttering moan of relief. "Oh...captain..."

"Alright, listen up. You know I don't like to be all...soft...but I think you need it, right now. Nahn, like I said last night, I don't expect you to be some supersoldier out there. That's my job. Right now, I just want you to focus on survival and working with me. You're a trained soldier from the inner ring worlds, kiddo - I've seen you fuckers pull shit off that'd make my old CO bust their top. If that's the kind of training you're bringing to the table, the enemy's got no chance." As you speak, you knead the knots that have built up along Nahn's back. You move up and down the length of her spine, touching the small of her back and causing her to shiver.

Any complaints she would have had are swallowed up by your massage. Eventually, with a happy sigh, she turns around and holds your wrists. "Captain...thank you. I promise I won't let you down."

You reach up to adjust your shades, keeping your focus on the mission at hand. You also make a point of angling your hand in just such a way that it looked like a salute, and your bicep and tricep even puff up a bit, but that was clearly a trick of the light. Clearly.

Your wanzer and Nahn's were on the helicopter, and the two of you were whisked away. There was no one there to greet you or brief you on the upcoming match. Any attempt to communicate to the pilot was met with utter silence. Looks like you were going in dark, on this one.

The chopper hovered into the city, giving you a show of the chaos below before hovering close to your destination. Myl was right when she said it was a little arena. There was barely enough space for the four pillars that she had described! With trap doors, a few upturned stones, and a whole lot of wasteland sand in the middle, this was proving to be a tough terrain to move reliably in. At the very least, you had room to work around. Making its descent, the chopper stopped at the south (you think) exit of the arena, right in front of an iron fence.

This is your stop. This is the second match...against Lok and Tak.

You power up your wanzer, shutting up the AI's chime by punching the dashboard. Nahn is standing by your side. In front of you, the iron fence blocked entry to the arena. There was a red light that glowed above the fence. It would probably turn green, when the time is right. "Captain..." Nahn starts to say, but you shush her.

"LADIES, GENTLEMEN, AND NON-BINARY GENDERS OF THE HOLY EMPIRE! I am your Grand Prallat! Welcome to this special match in the Gladiatorial Games! The Great King has prepared a battle for the ages for you, tonight! In one corner, the Shrewd and Conniving Brothers of the Old Ways! In the other corner, the underdogs that have defeated your beloved Yellow Pack! Who shall survive? Who shall earn the favor of the king, and climb closer to freedom!? You shall decide!" Ah, so there was a live audience, along with some cameras. The Grand Prallat wouldn't have an intercom installed here unless there were people watching.

"Now! Let me introduce the guardians of the lower ranks! These two politicians have lied, cheated, and stolen their way to attain favor in the Old Ways! Here, however, they have only their skills and their wits to save them! Shall they learn the error of their ways? Will battle teach them what is truly best to a Thyran? I introduce to you... LOK! AND TAK!" screamed the Prick-it. From your angle, you couldn't see who was coming in or what they were working with. And they were probably getting into position, too. Didn't Myl say there were traps and other things, in this?

While the Prallat was announcing your team, your thoughts begin to wander. How do you broach the initial entry? Do you try to survey the area? Should you just go on a full-frontal? Maybe you should try to scan for the traps? No matter what you do, it might be a good idea to get Nahn in on the plan, as well.

Scouting would probably be the best idea. Make a quick go of the whole place, try to avoid capture, and get back behind cover to make a plan with Nahn. You open up your radio and -

Was Nahn praying or something? You could hear murmurs from her side of the radio. Well, now isn't the time for that shit. The Grand Prallat sounded like he was already half-done with introductions! "Nahn. Listen up."

"Y-yes!?"

"Alright, here's the plan. We're going in blind, and our minimap can't tell us shit about what these obstacles really are. I'll take point. When we get in there, I'm going to start scouting the area out. These Lok and Tak assholes probably have some sneaky shit set up for when we get in there, so the best plan is for me to get one go around the whole area. What I want you to do is to lay low, stay behind cover. If you can, take the heat off of me. If you can't, just survive. Got it?"

"Yes, ma'am!" Damn, the girl was a bundle of nerves, even after your massage.

The light above the fence changed from red to green. The fence itself slid to the right, allowing you passage. "And now...the RED PACK! LET THE MATCH BEGIN!"

No time to think about it now. The more you stall, the worse it's gonna get.

The second you start running through the gate, the heat was on! Your enemies didn't want to give you a chance to even get settled in before firing at you. Bullets rained in from above, while missiles and rockets flew toward you from the front. "How in the fuck - EVASIVE MANEUVERS!" You scream out.

At times like these, it was sink or swim, and you weren't about to die. Cranking your engines up to full, you gracefully side-step both the initial fire and the rockets coming toward you. The AI starts to beep and chirp in your ear, but you ignore that, for now. Rushing past Nahn, you hug the wall and start circling the arena in a clock-wise motion.

The first thing you notice is that, contrary to what you were seeing from your bird's eye view of the arena, there actually weren't that many rocks around. It was more along the lines of large, oddly-shaped discs traveling through the sand, dipping in and out of view at random intervals. You weren't sure what they did, but you do know that they were bad news. The sand itself was looking to be more of a hindrance, it seemed - while your wanzer was having no problems with mobility on the sand, the dunes and waves of grains would prove difficult for a close-up brawl.

Your attention is drawn up, to the enemy that was firing at you. "Fuck, a Spider-Tank." With all eight legs clinging to a pillar and four-cylinder rapid-fire turrets aimed in your direction, your first enemy looked like he would have the height advantage, for the match. They skittered around their pillar, moving to keep their aim directed right at you while you ran around the arena. "Looks like he's got two turrets, a giant ammo wheel in the back, double-plated leg joints with large clamps to avoid getting shot off easy...fucking hell, that's gonna be a problem.

Don't worry about him, you think to yourself. He can't even aim right. Your attention is drawn back to the field, which seems to have a few more surprises in store for you. There were five huge trap doors near the edges of the arena, positioned in a pentagram. What they held, you didn't know, but it must be some strong creature to have to be held back by steel doors. Last but not least, there were the stands above the arena. A safe distance away from the action, there were blue- and red-skinned aliens watching you from balconies and enclosed areas. The crowd that the Prallat was talking to.

"Captain! I'm pinned down by the enemy wanzer! He's got a rocket launcher shoulder and he's not stopping! I'm returning fire, but I can't do much alone! What should I do?" yelled Nahn, forcing you to look to the center of the arena. A huge wanzer, almost ten meters in height and seven meters in width, was launching salvo after salvo of missiles to Nahn's direction. It was armored and plated to all hell, but had no shields or weapons to speak of. Not that it needed it. This thing had spiked fists and more sharp edges on its armored surface than a sawblade. He also had anchoring pylons near his feet, to steady himself while using his launcher. "A wanzer that doesn't need to move. Fuck."

Slipping behind a pillar, you consider your options. Both opponents seem to be well-armed and well armored. The spider tank was the weaker of the two, since most of its defense was near the back, but what it lacked in defense, it made up for in offense and sustainability. The bruiser wanzer didn't seem to move much, if at all, but there was the problem with his defenses. Your bullets might be able to pierce his hide, but you won't get a clear shot on him without drawing fire from the spider tank. You could aim at the spider tank, but it's mobile, and taking the time to aim at him would be asking for missiles to the face.

2/?
>>
>>39295581
There were also the traps to consider. You haven't stepped on one of those floating discs just yet, and the trap doors haven't opened, but you're sure they'll come into play, soon enough. If you don't finish this match quick, you might deal with more than you bargained for.

"Captain? What do we do!?" Nahn yells.

>Options?
>Split up! Nahn draws the armored wanzer's attention, while you snipe at the spider-tank with your revolver.
>Focus fire on the Spider-tank! If you keep moving, you and Nahn won't get hit by rockets!

You'll need to gain their trust a little more to do that. Either squad loyalty or individual loyalty.

Individual loyalty will lead to giving you more bonuses side character's actions, along with a few threads that focus on them. You'll be able to control their rolls.

Squad loyalty will lead to giving you minor roll control over your squad's actions, along with better teamwork all around. Low rolls won't fuck you up as much.

You whip out your revolver. "Nahn. The spider tank is tough, but it's also useless. It can't shoot worth shit. Just keep your focus on the big one, and we'll get through this without any problems. Get your shit together and help me fuck these guys up." You growl. The problem isn't from behind - it didn't care that you saw its back, when you went around it. No, there had to be some other way to take him out. Maybe if you shot at his rocket launcher? It'd be a hell of a shot to make, but it's not impossible. "On my mark, Nahn. One...two...three!"

Nahn slid out of cover, machine gun in hand and shooting blindly. She was far off the mark, firing bullets into the ground underneath the enemy's feet. You could feel the smug smirk coming from the armored wanzer from here, as he primed a rocket.

"Not today, asshole." Whipping your revolver forward, you pull the trigger and fire a shot toward the shoulder-mounted missile launcher. Your bullet collides with his first projectile salvo just as it leaves the barrel of the launcher, forcing a huge explosion that almost knocks him back! The roar of the flames is echoed by a haunting metallic groan; through the smoke, you can see that you had blown his whole armored shoulder off, leaving an exposed gash of coils and gears. "Fuck yeah! Take that, you - "

>>39295982
"Aaaaagh!" Your radio crackles out! Oh, shit, Nahn was in trouble! While you had focused your attention on the armored wanzer, the spider tank had repositioned itself right above Nahn! He had a clear line of fire, tearing through the poor girl until she pulled away.

Shit, shit, shit! Your return fire on the spider tank doesn't hit the mark, but it's enough to scare him back into hiding. You dive back into cover, as well, hiding behind the pillar that Nahn's mech dove at. "Nahn! Status report! Damn it, I told you I'm bringing you back!" You scream out. Nahn replies with a squeal of pain, sobbing into her radio. "Captain, it hurts! I can't - captain, I can't move my arm!" Her wanzer's left arm was torn to shreds. From here, you could see that her cockpit was also punctured. She might have taken a hit. "I think they got me, captain!"

"Quit your bitching, Nahn! You're fine! I won't let you die here, do you hear me!? Look at yourself and tell me - are you still all there?"

"My arm's wounded, captain! I can feel it, but it hurts to move! Captain, please, I don't want to die!"

"Nahn, I'm not going to let you die, but you have to pull it together! Stop focusing on the pain! You still have a good arm, right? You're still able to move? Then you're able to fight! Now listen to my orders!"

Nahn, you knew, had a penchant for panicking. She was already getting hurt, and the enemies you were facing were an order of magnitude better than the Green Pack people that she had faced before. You were going to have to find a way to get to her.

"Nahn, listen to me! I know it's hurting, but I want you to fight through the pain! As your CO - fuck, as your friend - I need you, right now! You think you're scared of pain and getting hurt? I'm fucking terrified, right now! I have to think around these two chucklefucks, keep you alive, and keep myself alive! But I'm trying to be brave, for myself and for you! I'm not about to let these guys kill me, and I can't do that without you! I picked you for a reason, Nahn, because I can count on you! Please, Nahn, get up! Get up and help me kick these guys' asses!" When you get back to the home base, you are going to wash the hell out of your tongue.

That did it. Nahn's sobs died down, and her wanzer straightened up. She began to tote her machine gun with her right arm alone, looking to you. "I'm sorry, captain. What do you need me to do?"

"Thank the Gods. I thought I'd have to climb out of my fucking wanzer and pistol-whip you in the face. We're going to have to deal with that spider-tank. Once I start moving, he might as well try to shit on a needle. That armored wanzer's gonna be trouble if he starts moving, so I need you to shoot at him. Can you do that?" You say. Your reload your revolver, keeping an eye to the sky for your prey.

"Yes...yes, I can, ma'am."

The Prallat's voice booms from all around you. "It looks like our competitors need some ENCOURAGEMENT! RELEASE THE BEASTS!"

The trap doors fell down, revealing a pitch-black void. For a moment, nothing happened. Then, a deafening cry. Five giant serpents shot out of each hole simultaneously, roaring and spitting blue fire into the air! "Combatants, meet the Dune Wyrms! From the crags of the Tyhran wastes, these creatures breathe fire hot enough to melt any wanzer! If you wish to live, you must defeat your enemies before the wyrms devour YOU!" Fucking perfect. this is just what you need right now.

Nahn can't get distracted by them. They're just snakes. You grab at her wanzer's shoulder and shake it vigorously, snapping her out of her daze. "NAHN! Focus on the mission! Those snakes won't see you as a threat if you don't attack them! Focus on the wanzer in the middle!"

Nahn still couldn't fire at him, since she was trying not to get crushed by the snakes, but she wouldn't have to worry about getting attacked, just yet. You, on the other hand, had a spider to squash. The mobile menace was hovering far above the danger zone of the serpents, keeping an eye on both them and you. When you popped out of cover, he locked a bead on your mech, forcing you to keep moving with suppressing fire. You responded with your own return fire, shooting six time and hitting two of his front legs and causing them to shatter.

The serpents weren't going to take this lying down. They roared and writhed, slithering in the air toward the nearest target. If you could just bring the armored wanzer closer to them, or force the spider tank down...wait, what about the pillar? What if you took the pillar down from underneath him? You might not have the firepower for it, but, surely, one of the serpents can knock it down? Then again, that'd be risky. You could take the time to aim at the spider tank's legs, since your bullets can break them, but that would be a difficult shot. And then there's Nahn and telling her what to do...

>Options?
>Tell Nahn to go full frontal and aim for the armored wanzer's shoulder? (Add a 1d100 to your roll, please.)
>Tell Nahn to play it safe? (Add a 1d100 to your roll, please.)
>Tell Nahn to bait the armored wanzer toward a serpent? (Add a 1d100 to your roll, please.)
>Leave Nahn to her own devices?

>Options?
>Snipe at the spider-tank's legs! Bring the arachnid down! (Please roll 2d100 for attacking and evasion.)
>Draw a serpent's attention, then force him to take down the pillars? (Please roll 2d100 for attacking and evasion.)
>Write In? (Please roll 2d100 for a catch-all.)

Rolled 37, 16, 5 = 58 (3d100)

>Tell Nahn to play it safe? (Add a 1d100 to your roll, please.)
she can't be expected to deal with that shit, not yet.

>Draw a serpent's attention, then force him to take down the pillars? (Please roll 2d100 for attacking and evasion.)
give him something to think about.

Rolled 43, 55, 92 = 190 (3d100)

>>Tell Nahn to play it safe? (Add a 1d100 to your roll, please.)

>>Write In? (Please roll 2d100 for a catch-all.)
Draw the Spider tanks attention, and bait him to accidentally fire at the serpents.
>>
>>39296922
Still need two more rolls for either one, anon.
>>
>>39296922
A smart move, perhaps.

Fuck, it's already 3, and the battle doesn't look like it'll be ending soon. I'm still fine, but I understand that most people need to sleep.

I'll close up shop, soon.

>>39296945
Nah, he switched his choice. It only needs one roll, now.

Since the two options are separate, I'll be using the first roll of each first option that matches.
>>
Rolled 54, 50, 17 = 121 (3d100)

>>39296848
>>39296885
>>39296937
Highest roll for the first option is an 86, while the second option has highest rolls of 55 and 92.

Snakes...why does it always have to be snakes?

Rolling and writing.

Rolled 1 (1d2)

"Nahn, listen up. Blue fire means that these snakes really can burn through your shit. Keep out of their range and drag the big wanzer around by his dick. Play it safe!"

"Roger!" Out of the corner of your eye, you see Nahn taking a few steps back, narrowly avoiding the hot breath of a Dune Wyrm. In front of her, the armored wanzer was slowly approaching. Seems like keeping away from him was easy, since he moved at a snail's pace.

Those serpents were easy to dodge, so long as you kept close to the middle of the arena. The spider-tank also seemed like it wasn't going to fire at you if you were between him and a serpent, so you decide to run toward him. This, in turn, would cause him to jump, and he would be forced to take a second to readjust on his new pillar. Those front legs looked like they were important, since he was scrambling just to stay on...wait, that's perfect! "Oh, I got you now, asshole."

Without the two front legs to help him up, the spider tank was starting to sink lower and lower to the ground. Your continued chase toward him made the pilot panic, wasting time on jumping to a new pillar instead of climbing back up to safety. When he was low enough, a Dune Wyrm started to sniff him out, its fangs bared and a little pyre of flame growing in its mouth. Just line up the shot, wait for him to jump... now!

The spider tank pounced in the air. Acting quickly, you draw your revolver and plant a few shots into his trajectory! The bullets pierce his left flank, and the impact of your revolver's shots force him toward a Dune Worm. Fire engulfs the tank; the sheer heat from the Dune Wyrm's blaze forces the wanzer to grow white-hot. It isn't melting away like the Prallat had said, but you know what was happening inside that makeshift oven.

Your enemy fell to the sands, roasted alive in a metal coffin. At least now, you only had one enemy to deal with. Breathing slowly, you turn your mech to face the armored wanzer...

>>

Boy, today's thread sure was long. I could have gotten us through to the end of the battle, but I think it's better if we've got enough people to face this last guy and all these traps.

Flare is on the verge of gaining a new skill!
Flare's reputation is now 'Known'! This will have an affect on all her dealings in various social circles.
Nahn's S-Link is on the verge of Ranking Up!

Red Pack's Wanzer Parts are now upgraded to the level of 'C'! They can now withstand a few hits before being destroyed!

So, how did I do? Did I do good? Did I do bad? Please let me know now.

I'll update the pastebin with new descriptions of the wanzers, soon. Right now, it is time for me to rest and get some water.
If you've got questions, please ask now.

I think I might have let the Spider Tank die too easily, but I also don't want to make this too fuck-off hard.

Those low rolls are really killing Nahn.

Thank you for participating! I appreciate every anon who chooses to grace my doorstep.

Good run, thanks for the long session.

A certain anon contacted me through twitter and told me to post this.

You're welcome. Thank you for coming!
>>
>>39297427
Oh shit, I missed everything.
an urgent matter just had to rise in the middle of the thread, but we'came out okay, so I'm relieved.
>>
>>39297252
All we got left to deal with is a slow-ass mech with only his fists, and 5 giant snakes, right?

....right?
>>
>>39298000
I wouldn't say 'okay'.

The spider-tank thing should have lasted a bit longer, looking back at it. These guys are my first attempt at throwing a solid challenge at you.
>>
>>39298007
...sure.

Just that. Nothing else at all.

Ignore the rising and sinking discs on the ground.
