>ITT: A storytime that is actually a cry for help

Ok, so...this might require some explaining.

I'm in this 5e Shadowrun campaign and things have gotten...a little out of control.

My character is an ork combat-focused mage (read: not squishy and hella good with a shotgun) from the good ol' city of Baltimore, chasing down leads about a cult which one of the other players slowly morphed into this weird matriarchal, fetishy fertility cult that only let elf and human women become members that murdered his brother. The trail ended up taking him to Seattle where it went cold for a few months, yada yada yada, long story short he's now doing runs while also trying to piece together the puzzle that ends with his brother's murder.

The other characters in my party (and their players):

--A totally butch human street sammy played by a totally chill butch lesbian (hereafter referred to as lez-bro)

--A quirky (read: friggin' adorably socially awkward), bi-curious elf decker played by lez-bro's girlfriend (who was also pretty chill and not butch)

--Our face, a troll shaman who spoke only in whispered haikus played by some rando we picked up early on who also turned out to be a total bro (who will now be referred to as face-bro)

--Face-bro's little brother, playing a dwarf rigger that enjoyed eating cookies and working on his ride (kid was also about...I wanna say 14-15 years old, and was very mature for his age)

--And then there was That Guy, a lupine shifter technomancer that is the guy who totally hijacked my character's backstory because I somehow accidentally his magical realm.

That Guy was fat, scraggly, and an utter douche towards lez-bro, her gf, and me when I decided to stick up for the both of them because I've got a bit of a hero-complex. In other words, he was a fedora-tipping jackass that deserved to have his shit kicked in.

How did he end up hijacking my character's backstory, you ask? Well...

The GM we're playing with is a total grognard that had grown to hate having players not put much thought into their characters, so he decided that the entire group needed a pure character creation session before we actually put the rubber to the road gamewise, which is how we got the butch street sam and the troll shaman that only spoke in whispered haikus. All in all, it was pretty fun.

During the session, That Guy, somehow, didn't like how I was building my character, saying that I was "doing it wrong" and he wanted me to fit the bill of a boring, run-of-the-mill mage that focused on healing because the group "didn't have a dedicated healbot". I said fuck that noise, that ain't for me, I'm going to fry people with my mojo. In the end I did end up taking some healing spells to get him off my back.

Oh, how I wished I knew what I was getting into.

So it's our first story-related run and the group is all revved up for the meet with the Johnson. Simple enough job; go in, get the paydata, get out, hand it to Johnson, get paid. A milkrun, really.

Things already go to hell-in-a-pear-shaped-wicker-basket when That Guy decides to, during the meet, use the decker's gear to jack into the Matrix and, totally unrepentant while doing so, upload a metric fuckton of her nude selfies to JackPoint before the rigger could force him to jack out. That Guy's reasoning behind this action? "I was bored."

>That Guy infraction count: 1

The Johnson must've gotten a kick out of seeing a shifter get dogpiled by an ork, a lesbian, a dwarf, and a troll all at once. Hell, we even got a bonus up front for that little charade (of course we were still mad enough at That Guy that even the bonus didn't cool our jets).

We then hop into the rigger's ride and get to the job-site where we basically MGS our way past security and download the paydata. Like I said, it was really a milkrun that was more testing the waters than anything else.

Along with the paydata, the decker noticed an odd looking file titled "Project STORMDRAIN." She went to go grab it, but it was a tough cookie to crack with black IC out the ass.

Of course that meant That Guy to come and bail her ass out, but not before he could grab the file and crack open the goodies inside.

He finds pictures, police reports, and case files of crime scenes that were eerily similar to the one in my character's backstory. In each one, the vic was ritually sacrificed to some neo-pagan deity which That Guy claimed was a fertility goddess. The victims were all ork and troll males. All of them were from the East Coast.

He, naturally, refused to willingly share this information in-character, stating that this was "too important/valuable to be given away freely." Face-bro calls bullshit, but is shot down hard by That Guy with the OOC explanation of "it's what my character would do".

The GM calls a break before actual blood is shed at the table due to That Guy's immaturity.

>That Guy infraction count: 3

We reconvene and That Guy, reluctantly, hands over the Project STORMDRAIN data to the rest of the group. Immediately my character is going ballistic because while this wasn't exactly news to him, it was helpful enough to reopen his own investigation with some new leads to track down.

That Guy notices how my character is reacting, but otherwise says nothing.

So we meet with the Johnson, swap the paydata for our payday...

And then That Guy goes, "Hey, Mr. Johnson, what do you know about Project STORMDRAIN?"

The Johnson at first is stone-faced ("What") and then slowly his expression morphs into one of horror ("How the FUCK did you get this data?")

That's where the first session ended.

Post-session the rest of the group and I were all "what the fuck That Guy!" That Guy, being the unrepentant ass-breathing, fedora-tipping, ignorant bumfuck that he is, shrugged and said "Why not?"

We detailed the reasons why not, and he simply brushed it off saying "I'm just getting the plot hooks out of the way so that we can move on."

>That Guy infraction count: 5

Next week's session rolls around and man we are bracing for impact over what That Guy pulled.

The GM basically tells us that the Johnson is afraid that the runners have gotten their hands on something way too hot to pass on right now and suggests that we hold on to it until the heat goes away. Needless to say, this isn't what That Guy was hoping for.

"Why the fuck won't he take it?" he asks.

"I just told you, he was afraid that he'd get too much heat for having it," the GM explains.

"I thought that was another adventure hook."

"It is, but not the way you were thinking. Besides, it's too early to spring that on all of you."

With a smoldering sigh, That Guy didn't press the issue. But he was biding his time. Waiting to pounce and take us all into his magical realm.

Anyway, it's the next run, and a new run means a new Johnson, which means another chance to get paid. Job was a little bit dicier this time--extract some exec's daughter from this party she wasn't supposed to go to. Security was tighter this time around, but it wasn't anything we couldn't handle.

That's when That Guy decided he needed to..."accelerate" his plans, and take us all on a journey.

That Guy declares that his character notices that some of the names on the guest list match some of the suspects on the Project STORMDRAIN data. And that, surprise! This wasn't actually a party! This was a meeting of the cult, the very same cult that was hijacked from my character's backstory.

He specifically, in-and-out-of-character, tried to bar my character from going on this job, claiming that I would become "compromised" and the integrity of the team would be "at an unacceptably high risk" should I try and go with the team.

Both face-bro and lez-bro immediately called bullshit, stating that since I was at the Johnson meet, I get to go, and since I was the only one with a reason to take this cult down and with any idea about how they operated, denying me this opportunity to get vengeance for my dead brother would be dickish *at best.*

With a huff and a puff, That Guy relented, but said that his character would be keeping a close eye on mine.

>That Guy infraction count: 7

We all pile into the rigger's ride and then the decker is awkwardly trying to flirt with my character, saying that she "liked my tusks" and that I looked "big and manly." I found this precious and decided that my character, though not interested in anything else, would definitely be her new best friend. We then proceed to bro it up for the rest of the ride, with the decker confiding in me that she had a major crush on lez-bro.

That Guy took note of this, but said nothing in- or out-of-character, silently watching us with this odd glint in his eye.

That guy is also breaking rules OP.
Since you've said 5e I pulled up the rules for Shifters in Run Faster.
Shapeshifters have a natural Magic rating of 1, this is what allows them to shapeshift. Anything with a magic rating cannot get a Resonance rating, meaning RAW That Guy cannot be a Shifter Technomancer.

Just something fun I wanted to point out.

>>
>>39387056

We get to the party and almost right away the guards are approaching the vehicle with guns drawn because what the fuck else are YOU gonna do when a fucking *armored land train* rolls up to your front door?

Face-bro rolls down his window and proceeds to utterly bullshit his way through the front gate, letting the rest of us roll straight on past the gate with the caveat of "do something dangerous and we gut you like fish." Y'know, just standard stuff.

That Guy then sets (what he later admitted to being) Phase I of his dastardly plot into motion, saying that the guests have taken an unusual interest in both my character and the decker. He also notes that the decker is "in estrus" and is "ripe for the taking."

Lez-bro immediately starts going into "mama-bear" modo; mouthing a quick apology to her gf out-of-character, the street sam starts to make-out (in character, of course; lez-bro wouldn't dare invade her gf's "personal bubble" at the table without permission from said gf, nor would she give That Guy the satisfaction of knowing he had some sway over the group) every opportunity she got, in full view of the party guests/cult members. However, her efforts are in vain.

The GM says that some of the guests aren't buying the act, which pleases That Guy to no end. No, really, he was fucking ecstatic, squirming in his chair at the table with demonically possessed glee. Anyway, some of the guests weren't buying it, and that things were going to escalate very quickly towards violence unless the group got their shit together and got the job (extracting the exec's daughter) done.

We almost did, if it weren't for That Guy activating Phase II.

Or am I just misunderstanding something here

Spoilers: Nerds are conflict-averse cowards, as a rule, and will do everything up to and including letting players make GM-tier fiat rulings because otherwise "i might have to show the tiniest bit of backbone :(((("

What >>39387992 said, but the idea that players can shape the campaign a bit to make things more interesting isn't exclusive to That Guy scenarios and in fact entire systems are built around the idea that the players can act a little like co-GM's. Were the player not shit, I'd be fine with a player deciding that they recognize a name on a list 'cause they're making their own plot hooks.
>>
>>39387630

Phase II-A involved trying to kidnap the decker and my character. Without, of course, group consensus.

Basically, both the decker and my character were shoved into a broom closet by one of the party guests/cult members to be held for some nefarious deed to be expounded upon later (read: explained whenever That Guy felt like he had to justify his fetishes). The rigger notices this, and tries to get face-bro and lez-bro to bail us out, but That Guy kept running interference, shutting that plan down hard.

Eventually my character aces a few strength checks and breaks down the door from the inside, letting the decker and my character out. Three cheers for making That Guy's fantasy come crashing around his ears, right?

Needless to say, OOC That Guy is having a silent meltdown, just sitting there and glaring at us from his spot at the table. I swear to god, he had this look in his eye that said "I really, really, *REALLY* wanna shank you right now."

Which then brought about II-B: Brute forcing the magical realm into the story.

So the rest of the group gets the exec's daughter prepped for extraction, with lez-bro and my character on point, rigger and face-bro covering the flanks, That Guy in the rear of our formation (this is important to remember), and the decker in the middle covering the daughter.

Guess which direction the cultists decide to attack from? And guess which position crumbled first?

I hate it when people mistake long backstories for good backstories. Backstories are literally the least important part of any character in any medium, they exist to justify what the character is doing now. I'd much rather PC's make up their backstories as they go along to justify doing interesting stuff than make anyone actually write a 1,000 word essay on why their character is interested in adventuring (or making anyone read that).
>>
>>39388224
No it'd only be Henderson level if the GM was actively fucking him and was just that long to make people leave him the fuck alone so he could pull whatever he wanted out of his ass in order to ruin unfair GM fiats. This? This is just taking your shitty fanfic Mary Sue that you established eons ago before a game and then shoving it into one while bullshitting up everyone else's problems to have to encompass your own.
>>39388231
This guy fucking gets it.
No reason to bog down shit with a long backstory, just drop a basic paragraph or two of what they're deal is in summary, and then work with the GM and provide more backstory as you go through the game. If you want characters to be related in some way to provide a reason they work together then steal that one aspect from Dungeon World, but don't bore or annoy people with what they did every single year of their life.
>>
>>39388068
Wow, when I DMed I would roll with what they wanted within the confines of my gameworld but I never let them create it (beyond "Hey is there x here" umm yeah sure). Then again even though I occasionally gamed with neckbeards they were respectful neckbeards.
>>
>>39388494
im not saying this is a Henderson situation, but that back story is just about as retardedly long as Henderson's.
>>
>>39388141

That Guy basically stepped aside let the cultists take the decker and the daughter to some locked room the was hard to get to (read: not even mentioned in the building plans because That Guy was being That Guy and withheld this information like the little mouth-breathing fuckwit he was prone to being) to, and I'm not fucking making this up, "create some drama". Obviously, this led to the GM having to step in and declaring that the decker had a chance to get both of them free and rejoin the rest of the party with a simple athletics check.

Of course, That Guy just *had* to insist that she use *his* dice, and wouldn't ya know it? Those dice were (as we found out after the fact) actually his special "fuck-you-and-the-horse-you-rode-in-on" dice that were loaded to hell and gone, giving her critical glitch after critical glitch.

So of course the decker doesn't wanna be forced to burn on on this, so she just takes it and lets the cultists drag her and the exec's daughter away.

>That Guy infraction count: 9

The rest of the group and I just stared at That Guy, eyes widened in horror as the GM described what was in store for our decker. Of course, That Guy was unrepentant and said that now the rest of the party *had* to go after the decker.

Oh, we would, alright. And kick That Guy's shit in, too.

The first thing the rest of us did, though after killing all the lawyers and I will be fucking amazed if anyone gets this reference, was try and plan a way to save the decker, grab the daughter, and get paid.

And damned if we were gonna let That Guy walk right over us.

I had a that guy only like a tenth as bad as this fucker and my character killed him in literal minutes after he started fucking with the party, he kept trying to betray us and give the Corporate fuckers advantages, so I just ended up hacking into his cyber legs (he had a pair of them and had literally no security to protect them) turned them off, took his assult rifle, left him the faces holdout pistol and told him to try and survive.

through some GM trickery he survived and so in a rage over the GM letting that piece of shit live I just shot him in the face, and decapitated him, and then burned the remains. When asked why I did this I said I had a fear of ghouls, so I wanted to be sure he wouldn't come back again. when asked what I ment by "again" I said to my party members that he was totally fucked, so my character rationalized that he died, and came back as a ghoul. he still refuses to come back to our games, because I was triggering him by bullying him during the game.
>>
>>39388552
Ok. So at this point the shifter has deliberately betrayed the party, gotten a skilled decker captured, and is actively working against the group getting paid. all in addition to the stuff he pulled before.

I think that's perfect grounds for an IC decision to obtain a new fur coat.

My disbelief has been shattered. No one would bother going through the effort of bringing actual loaded dice to a table, everyone would have been suspicious as fuck if he started getting pushy about using his dice. Especially lez-bro who you earlier said specifically wanted to spite That Guy and not let him have any OOC control over the group. Who brings loaded dice that critically fail, of all things?

To be a dick, and in some gaming systems lower roles can be better in certain situations. Not familiar with Shadowrun but certain percentile roles might be better lower so a loaded D10 would make sense. He also might have tricked them by trying to imply that the decker might use loaded dice herself.

Its believable in my opinion, especially with all the shit he has already gotten away with.

>correction: *burn edge on this

So here was our plan, unimaginatively dubbed "Operation Fuck-That-Guy":

Lez-bro and the rigger would act as our decoys, getting the attention of That Guy and the cultists, while face-bro and I would try sneak off to the hidden room. Simple, foolproof, and in theory there was no way it could've been fucked up. No, really, we thought it impossible to have our plan be fucked up.

That Guy caught wind of it, and decided to try and fuck it up. Why? Because that, in his own twisted mind, was "how [his character] do."

That Guy rather loudly asked, in a very smug and knowing tone, what face-bro and my character were doing, sneaking off and "not enjoying the party like [we] should be."

Almost immediately face-bro's fist meets That Guy's face in a rather violent fashion while my character literally lit That Guy's butt on fire.

Meanwhile lez-bro and the rigger our doing their best to be the best decoys they possibly can, with lez-bro sucking the rigger's face off (OOC face-bro's brother was like "hey lez-bro, not that I mind, but what the fuck, girl, don't spring this sort of thing on me" and lez-bro was like "just roll with it") in such a violent fashion that it seemed that they had evolved gills on the spot.

So now things are going relatively to plan, but That Guy is determined to have us experience his magical realm, whether we wanted to or not.

Yeah, see, this? It's actually impossible. You can't 'ruin' unfair GM fiats. Because the GM tells you to go fuck yourself.

Hendersen only works because the GM allowed it to. It wasn't even remotely possible otherwise. Otherwise, would you please show me the rules that state GOOs get 'summoning sickness'?
>>
>>39388825

yeah. the story started out entertaining, but it's just not stacking up. I can't imagine any GM worth his salt allowing this, or any of the PCs not just shooting this guy a new asshole, and damn the karma penalties.
>>
>>39388908
Shadowrun operates on dice pools of d6's, rolling high is beneficial. If That Guy brought loaded dice, he would have brought loaded dice that landed on 5's and 6's. And he'd need an bucket of them, because dice pools can get ridiculous in Shadowrun. There's just no way.
>>
>>39388988
To continue with this? A dicepool of baseline competence in 5e? 10 dice. That is the BASELINE, you must be this tall to play.
>>
>>39388921
at least you finally attacked the guy who was actively fucking you over.
>Why aren't you enjoying the party?
because I'm shooting you in in your traitorous knee caps while my friend here stabs you in the face.
That is How the shadowrunner do.
>>
>>39388988
when you buy loaded dice you get some lows and some highs... or maybe some of those microwavable ones.
You know that trick right?
>>
>>39389031
Not to mention that, even in the unlikely event he brought 15 or so loaded d6's for the express purpose of tricking someone else to roll them, there's no way mini-lez wouldn't have felt that rolling them or noticed how suspiciously they all rolled 1's. Dice pools don't lend themselves well to cheats.
>>
>>39389101
The dice either gimp someone or they don't gimp someone. If he gave her the dice with the intent of her failing, he wouldn't have had a use for rolling them himself.

I know nothing about microwavable dice, though now I'm picturing That Guy stopping the game for a few minutes so he can stick his dice in the microwave all 1 face up.
>>
>>39389146
except if he bought a pile of dice and loaded them by putting them in the oven for ten minutes with the desired faces up...
You don't load all the dice in a pool just enough to make the difference.

if you have a few that roll lots of ones and a few that tend to roll 5s then you can control your rates of success.
>>
>>39388921

That was when Phase III had started with That Guy telling us that not only were the daughter and the decker now in the clutches of the cult, but they were now part of a ritual that would bring about "a new golden age" by being (spoilering for a massive trigger warning here) forcibly raped and impregnated by my character who would be mind controlled throughout the entire thing and sire a child known as "The King of Thunder" who would take over the world.

Already That Guy tries to bully the GM into making me roll willpower saves, but it ain't happening. Yeah, the place is warded six ways to Sunday, but the GM decides that they haven't been triggered yet. So my character is safe for now.

That's when That Guy asks what *would* trigger the wards, and the GM unwittingly answers by saying "when the cultists come to harm."

That Guy smiles with a savage glee, turns his Ares Predator towards one of the guests/cultists, and squeezes the trigger.

The wards activate...and it turns out, That Guy gets mind-controlled.

That was more for the entire situation. This is so out of control. I'd have kicked this fucker out two or three sessions ago when he said he was "getting the plot hooks out of the way."

And I mean, that last spoiler. Holy shit. How did the decker handle this? I can't help but feel that she'd have been really uncomfortable with what is essentially a reddit-fedora sitting across the table like this.
>>
>>39389311
That's stretching it. It really is. Most That Guys are going to bring some dice weighted for 5's and 6's and just not use them for every roll. I want to believe, but it's hard to believe someone like this had the foresight to bring gimped dice. The story could've just went "and luck would have it she rolled shit" and I wouldn't have batted an eye.

I'm going to try to believe anyways. I want to believe.
>>
>>39389442
nah, you have to have bad dice so that when everyone is questioning why you always roll so well you can roll poorly to prove them wrong.

Also yeah, at this point I'm just trying to justify forcing myself to believe the story as well.

Maybe a total asshole would make rigged dice, just to give people. It's a thing.

Putting aside the issue of how believable your story is OP, I don't know why you haven't kicked him out, or simply left the game with the other players, at this point.

>>39389248

So there was That Guy, mind-controlled and, for all intents and purposes, now part of the cult. Naturally, he tried to retroactively claim that my character should've been mind-controlled, too, but no cigar for him, that happened *before* That Guy activated the wards.

So naturally he tries to get my character to shoot him in the face. No literally, That Guy OOC turned to me and said, I shit you not, "shoot me in the face."

"Hell no," I said, quickly catching on to what he was actually planning.

"Why not? I'm compromising the party, ergo I must be shot in the face!"

"Because the wards would activate, jackass."

"That's pretty trivial; you have just the right counter-spells to--"

"The answer's still no."

So now That Guy is trying to get himself so that one of the rest of the party could get MC'd. He is literally trying to push his magical realm this hard that I have to give the guy points for dedication, but take them away for execution.

We shove That Guy in to the very same broom closet that he shoved the decker and my character into and go proceed to go off and rescue the decker and the daughter. He's upset about this, but decides to back off and bide his time.

>>
>>39390228
No, not possible. Because That Guy is clearly a master manipulator that can get his way almost perfectly until OP perfectly suddenly blocks him.

If you can't tell, I'm being sarcastic.
>>
>>39389248
>That Guy gets mind-controlled.
Hoo fuckin' rah. Finally. That Guy doesn't get something going his way for a change... I'm going to guess that since That Guy was now mind controlled, everyone took the opportunity to beat several kinds of tar, shit and crap out of him?
>>
>>39389673
Thing is, That Guy has failed several important rolls by now, where were his loaded dice then?
>>
>>39390119

>correction: *get himself geeked

So the rest of the group and I go in to this stone chamber where the decker and the daughter are locked up and we immediately notice the fucking huge altar they're chained to. The decker (in-character, of course) is screaming at us to hurry the fuck up and let them out goddammit hurry the fuck up! The rest of us are like "chill, chica, we got this" and we proceed to try and break their chains.

Which is when That Guy succeeded his latest strength test and went on to fuck up our plans yet again.

He tries to convince my character to go through with the ritual, appealing to my character's sense of pride ("c'mon, who doesn't wanna be father to a new god?"), but it ain't gonna happen.

He then proceeds to go on this diatribe about how my character is a fucking pussy, how he's always been my character's BFF, how my character will always be second banana to That Guy's greatness unless my character could prove his manliness by fulfilling his "destiny", yada yada yada. Basically, he's just whining and bitching about how we aren't "really playing the game," and how the rest of the group is "just a bunch of fucking posers," shit like that.

So my character pulls out his RoomSweeper, points it between That Guy's eyes, and squeezes the trigger.

And that's where the GM called for a break.

>cont'd.
>>
>>39390450
What important rolls has he failed?
Alternatively, he could just be the special breed of asshole that only has loaded dice to trick other people into using them, and hadn't been using/hadn't been using many of them up to this point, although that's just me going full devil's advocate here.

Then it gets noticed when someone reaches for those dice and he spergs out. You are not good at this. If the dice were loaded enough for it to matter in the pool, it would have been noticed by this point. You are NOT understanding the amount of dice tossed around in SR.
>>
I bet it turns out that during the breaks your GM was colluding with him.
>OK so what will your cult do now?
>>
>>39390725
Almost has to be this, or weakest backbone GM ever.

Though while entertaining, OP's story in general isn't very high on the believability scale.
>>
>>39390706
You think anyone would think it odd that That Guy spergs about anything?

I've known people over the years who honestly insist that certain of their dice must be used for certain monsters.
>The red d20 is for fighting dragons.
>The blue one is for undead.
>Shit... we're fighting an undead dragon? I can't find the purple one! stall for a minute.
>Fine, I'll just use the "wrong" one, now I've missed and it's all your fault!

AND they get pissy if they use the wrong one,
some guy gettting spergy over his mound of d6s is pretty tame.
Also you only need to introduce a few extra guaranteed highs or lows to swing a big dice pool.
>>
>>39390531

After the group and I come back from break, That Guy calmly sits down, declares that he won't be burning any edge to save his character, and he's fine with my character shooting his in the face. He says that his character probably had it coming and applauds me for actually shutting him up.

He then asks the GM if I have to roll willpower to resist being MC'd.

The GM says no, the wards were a one-time only deal and they can only MC one person at a time. If the person who activated them is dead, they can't automatically reset; they have to be reset manually by the members of the cult.

That Guy then asks if he could take control of the cult members for the rest of the session. The GM said yes, but only during the actual escape.

So now the rest of the group and I have an angry cult that's hot on our heels. And the only way out is through the sub-basement level, five stories below us.

We had our work cut out for us.

>cont'd.
>>
>>39390863
He's going to have to get pretty awful after admitting he was a shit.
>>
Am I the only one that finds this story insultingly fucking fake?

Jesus fuck dude the one thing that makes it all fall apart is there is no fucking way in hell any GM would allow him to start controlling shit like "This isn't a party! It's a cult meeting! Let me decide what every NPC is actually doing and thinking! Let me decide this simple milk run extraction is actually a satanic rape ritual centering around two of the PCs! Let me decide that someone is not only mind controlled by the now evil cultist NPCs AND to what end AND why!"

Fucking shut up and go away. Fake story time can be fun, but this shit isn't even funny anymore.
>>
>>39390863

Naturally, That Guy declares that the wards will be back up by the time we reach the sub-basement if we dawdle, so we have to hustle or else risk getting MC'd on our way out. He's pretty smug throughout all of this, like he's eaten twelve canaries and there was nothing we could do about it.

We book it to the sub-basement, exec's daughter in tow and now sporting the dead shifter's Predator for self-defence. We move in diamond formation, my character in the rear, lez-bro on point, decker covering the girl, face-bro and the rigger on the flanks.

We're avoiding encounters with the cultists throughout this entire thing, dodging guards and party guests with equal fervor. We're doing alright when That Guy says that time's up, the wards are back online and mind controlling is now a serious threat.

I go, "what the fuck, we're not even halfway there!"

To which he replied, "you're taking too long and now you're paying for it."

The GM stepped in and said that the wards, in fact, were still offline, but in a few more floors they would be back at full strength. That Guy shot a smoldering glance towards the GM but otherwise said nothing.

So he decides to mess with my character by having me roll willpower save after willpower save. Why? The cultists had access to mind control spells, natch. That Guy wanted us to play in his magical realm, whether we wanted it or not.

I basically say "fuck it," have my character level his RoomSweeper at the nearest cultist, and start letting rounds fly.

That turned out to be the best possible thing for my character to have done. Because dead cultists can't reset wards.

>cont'd.
>>
>>39391211
>That turned out to be the best possible thing for my character to have done. Because dead cultists can't reset wards.
with the wards down you should have been gunning down cultists like it was going out of fashion.
>>
>>39391109
Nope, I'm with you. Only reason I'm here is to laugh at the massive holes the fuckface is opening in it.

Also, called it. OP suddenly saves the day perfectly, thwarting that guy.
>>
>>39391211

I realize this OOC and start making the lead fly. Cultist trying to mess with my mind? Meet Mr. Remington, bitch! Oh, you're trying to reset that ward which will rape my mind and bend me to your will? That's adorable, have a fireball up the ass!

That Guy was absolutely livid when I found out that his so-called perfect plan had a loop-hole. I was then encouraging the rest of the group to start calling targets and have them drop said targets to the floor.

So there we were, rocking out with our cocks out and giving cultists lead enemas. That Guy was panicking now; our party was almost to the sub-basement and almost to freedom!

That's when the wards, That Guy told us, were now back up, even though the group and I were pretty sure that we killed enough cultists between where we started from and the sub-basement for it not to matter.

That was when That Guy pulled out all the stops and said that the moment we opened the door to the sub-basement, we would have to be making willpower saves out the ass or else we'd be MC'd so hard we wouldn't even know what the fuck we were actually doing.

So naturally we plant C4 on the damn door and blow it to kingdom come.

Why the heck was "shoot anything that moves" not your first plan?
>>
>>39391503

The GM says that we bypass the ward on the door, so no willpower rolls there. Yay! But we'll still have to be careful because there's still cultists chasing after us and the wards they were able to reset were now back up. Boo!

We book it through the sub-basement, dodging the cultists left, right, and center, as well as making sure that they didn't break through our rear again. Easier said than done, but really, we were prepared for the bullshit That Guy was trying to pull.

We get out, high-tail it to the rigger's ride, and haul major ass out of there. Of course That Guy then said that the cultists had a fucking T-Bird waiting for us. And of course that T-Bird was always right on top of us, no matter how good face-bro's little brother rolled.

So I man the turret, take aim, and I get a few lucky hits in, but the T-Bird, not surprisingly, is still flying.

That's when the GM decided to throw us another bone by saying that Knight Errant was now en route to the scene, after hearing reports of a "disturbance."
>>
>>39391707
they were worried about getting MCed by the wards in the place, but once that guy had taken the wards down by activating them, they were free to shoot away, but they only realized that later.
>>
>>39391765
>That Guy then said that the cultists had a fucking T-Bird waiting for us.
They've escaped the building by now. Doesn't Doucheface stop being allowed to control the cultists?
>>
>>39391765

>*cont'd.

So now we have the cops coming to say hi to us and the angry cultists on our tail. Great, more trouble. We were stuck between a rock and a hard place, with That Guy about to smugly "punish" us for not playing ball.

That's when the T-Bird exploded from missile fire from the KE APCs that were dispatched to investigate the incident. That Guy turns to the GM, says "what the fuck," and the GM just shrugged.

So now we have a clear shot to where we were supposed to drop off the exec's daughter. We get there, the exec and his daughter reunite, Warm and Fuzzy Feelings all around, good guys win, the day is saved and all that, right?

Well, almost. That Guy was still That Guy, so he decided to have one last hurrah by saying that the cult had revived his character and now he'd have his revenge on everyone who's ever crossed--

I, OOC, grab That Guy by the collar, drag him to the apartment door, and heave him out into the hallway. Which, in hindsight, is what I should've done in the first place when he started his bullshit.

"You could've handled that better," Face-bro's little brother mentioned to me when I came back in after locking the door on That Guy's face. Like I said, he was more mature than I am sometimes.

"Eh, he deserved it."

"Still, man, that wasn't cool."

"You're gonna try and guilt trip me over this?"

"It workin'?" There was this big ol' smile plastered on his face, telling me he was alright with what I did, or at least the reasoning behind it.

I jokingly wince back, make a 'kinda' gesture with my hand, and go, "A little."

I sit back down, and play resumed.

>end

So, thoughts other than "this is fake bullshit"?

>>39391828

The GM counted the chase sequence as part of the escape, so That Guy was allowed to still control the cultists.

Look, no offence but it sounds super, super faked. Like c'mon it's a perfect storm of whiny-ness, willingness to be pushed around and dumb-behaviour.

Other than that, That Guy was a horrific specimen that probably deserved a gut-punch and some stern words about how PnP's are CO-OPERATIVE STORYTELLING GAMES, and not a vehicle for him to force his fetishes on people, at which point I'd probably point him at F-List or the local porn store and tell him to deal with his shit before the sessions.

Not "Why" did he declare the party to be a cult gathering, "HOW"?
At several points in this storytime, you casually mention that guy "declaring" things to be true about the run, which is a thing normally reserved for the GM.
Did he just turn to the GM and say "hey what if this party we are visiting was really cultists all along" and the GM just went "OK"?
Was the GM in on the magical realm plan? Did that guy have the GM mind controlled?
>>
>>39392446
Yeah, it was pretty good.
>>
>>39392501

Our GM was big on this "let's all collaborate and tell a story idea" that he didn't see anything wrong (at first, of course) with That Guy declaring details. In his mind, the GM felt it would be wrong to step in unless That Guy was being a dick about it.
>>
>>39392446
Nah, not really. Honestly, it reads like tumblr bullshit to me, and "That Guy" seemed way, way more like "This Guy" to me. From another perspective, you could've framed it as a story where some guy has to deal with an annoying butch dyke, a fake dyke, and a whiny white knight and his heroic battle against them that ended with the white knight throwing a temper tantrum that caused the GM to turn against him. Seriously? A 'trigger warning: rape'? Calling a fedora-tipper an antifeminist when they have always and forever been whipped feminists?

Work on your craft.
>>
>>39392446
You started out really damn strong, established the other players as sympathetic and endearing. That Guy worked when he was being subtle about his dickery, things /tg/ can relate to. Dice is where people started falling off, but were OK with it going on - it was an unnecessary detail that was very much unsubtle.

Towards the end it stopped being about the meta-fight against That Guy and more about the actual cultists, followed by you (the protagonist in this story) having the satisfaction of actually kicking him out. At this point we already know it's fake but are trying to listen, but it feels a lot more rushed. We go from him making whiney demands to being mook cultists to resolution really damn fast, and nothing he does at this point is entertaining. It shifts focus from That Guy to the party being the star and it just doesn't work.

Your setup was great but the believability is crucial for maximum enjoyment. If you were to write this again, I would suggest fleshing out exactly why he gets by with the stuff he does - if he's using loaded dice, explain how the fuck he's getting away with it and how he got found out. Explain his relationship with the GM or the GM's personal tabletop philosophy that enables his behavior.
>>

I'll remember that for next time when I post. Thanks for the critique there, chummer.

>>39392613

That Guy was never a This Guy, and the bullshit he pulled with the paper thin reasons as to why were what made him That Guy. "I was creating drama," "You were taking too long," "I was getting plothooks out of the way," that sort of shit just did not mesh with the group.

The gm after he finishes taking a bongrip from a waterbong gurgling and shit says he will allow it.

I fail the dice pool test versus the fedora guy, and after that he explains how my character feels after the violent gay rape that nobody else in the group caught.

That said, even admitting OP's story is true (ehich I'm not), leaving authority to the players is not a justification for a disrupting behavior, and a That Guy like the one here would have been stopped from the beginning.

Every attack action towards you is treated as a single thing to dodge.

Even if its FA wide burst from a gattling gun.

The firing mode denotes how many shots are headed your way and the more there are the greater the malus to your dodge test. Harder to dodge when there is more lead filling up your general direction.

No, you roll defensive rolls for every attack. Burst fire. Burst fire imposes a malus on the attack roll due to recoil (that can be compensated away with the correct gear/stance/lining up your sights) and a malus on the dodge roll (that sticks no matter what)

A decently kitted out bastard with a good "automatics" skill and recoil compensation firing full retard is dangerous, that 9 dice malus on dodge hurts.

>Also a cry for help
OP, you forgot to keep your narrative consistent again; you were in fact going to pose a quandry for us to distract from the other plot holes.
