I thought I said 'Monday'.

I just looked, and I did say 'Monday'. Well, I mean, I can just wait until Tuesday. I didn't advertise good enough due to having new schedule constraints and planning that I need to do.

Should I just move it to Tuesday?

Keep the thread up for a little bit longer, maybe a hour or two and see if traffic picks up. if not then just wait till Tuesday and see what its like, Are you starting earlier than normal or is this the normal time.

"IT IS A TRAP! RUN!"

Those are the last words that the team hears before Skar, that strange-yet-lovable medic, suddenly cuts off. None of you had expected something like this. Fuck, none of you were expecting the mudfuckers to even notice you for a drive like this! "Fucking shit! Captain, this was supposed to be a fucking milk run, right!? We just lost Skar!" The medic yells. "Belay that talk! We've got a mission to do, damn it! I'm not about to let him have died in vain! At least now we know this was a trap. We're still getting that package in the second floor of the basement. So pick up your gear and move out!"

All of you dust yourselves off, forcing down whatever feelings that may be there for another time. You, specifically, have to make sure that all of the explosives were still present and accounted for. While the rest of the team scouted out the perimeter, you took a quick re-count of what was still there. A few packs of thermite, sized for Orbital Frames; one rocket launcher, custom Hydra model, with five trident missiles; coolant and pressure canisters for your double pile bunkers, just in case there was a door that could withstand the thermite; and a precision wire laser, for obstacles that warranted a special touch.

Your name is Deimos, the famous demolitions man that stole the wealth of nations. Through various means, you've found yourself working for the Iscariot Vigilante Company, putting your expertise in construction and destruction to good use. Your friend just died, you're on a shitty backwater mudball, and the mission you're on is a dud. You've got work to do.

A quarter-mile ahead of you, the lab that you're supposed to breach is nestled in between a couple of hills. It's clearly not supposed to be seen, judging by how the lab was placed. Between you and that lab is near empty field, but...

"This field is quiet. Too quiet. We can't just waltz in there and expect them to let it happen. They already know we're here, so we don't have time to dally around. Any ideas, team?" asks the CO.

"Just the usual, captain. Ever play Pazaak?" You ask.

"No. That card game is terrible. The only way to win is - ah, I see. Go ahead, then, Deimos." The CO replies. The gunner and the mechanic take a knee and pull out their guns, while you go and ready yourself for a good run. All you've got to do is run, dodge the enemy fire, and get to the base without getting hit - not too hard, especially in something as lightweight as an Orbital Frame. Revving up your engines, you push the mech forward.

The second you start moving through the field, the ground starts to break and crack beside you. Small turrets rise up from underneath the dry dirt, pivoting the barrels of their guns toward you and firing, but it's more than simple to dodge them. In the mech that you're piloting? They might as well have saved their ammunition for a slower target. Even with this planet's gravitational pull, your Frame was a class above these damned turrets. For fun, you skirt close to one, winding up your right arm and sweeping it low. Your pile bunker crashes into the side of a turret and rips it off of the ground!

"Cut the lollygagging, Deimos. We got shit to do." Your CO squawks sternly. Bah, philistine.

1/?
>>
>>39475513
Your initial distraction was enough to give the rest of the team time to fight back against the turrets. While the two girls weren't as ballsy as you were, they did take out a small number of the enemy. It was the CO who did most of the work, brandishing his trademark railgun out and blasting through the turret line. He was able to clear out a nice path for Ruth and the new girl to walk down.

By the time the team had regrouped in front of the laboratory's front wall, warning alarms had started to ring out through the empty valley. "That's no surprise. We still have a chance, but we should probably get in now. Deimos - let's knock politely."

>Options?

No time for games? No problem. You reach down to the center of your Frame's chassis, unlatching a center lock to open the trick-shell. Within your Frame's stomach rests a small armory, full of everything you need to bust down even the most secure of buildings. Reaching in, you retrieve two long tubes and put them together before stuffing a rocket into the back.

"Knock knock!" You yell out, and your palm shoves the rear tube into the larger one. The kinetic force launches the salvo right into the lab's wall, turning it into rubble in seconds! "Door's open, captain! Come on in!" You yell, and the team breaks into the laboratory's lobby through a haze of dust.

The inner lab is small, consisting mainly of the reception desk and a hallway toward a Tyhran-sized elevator. It was clear that this place was not built for military personnel to come through, since there were no halls wide enough for a Frame to come through. There was no one there to greet you... in fact, there weren't even any alarms going off in the lab. The only sounds you could hear were the soft rumbling from the debris of the forward wall, the whining of the alarms outside, and the slight hiss of your rocket launcher.

The Mechanic speaks up first. "CO, there's fuck all here. We can't take our wanzers down using the elevators, unless you're willing to fuck up our only way out. Seems like we gotta get off and go downstairs on foot."

I seem to be late, but maybe we should rig some explosives nearby to cover our exit?
>>
>>39476166
For a moment, you consider the option of just blowing a hole down to the package in question. Then again, doing something as stupid as that would probably lead to the package being damaged...or worse. For now, it's probably for the best to just go on foot. You, Cuvic, and the Captain take your frames close to the elevator hallway, dismounting together while Ruth watches the mechs. "Captain, watch the kid for me, would you?" She calls out jokingly.

The mechanic girl starts to take out a few tools, but the captain stops her. "Don't bother. If this is a trap, they're going to want us to come." He stepped up to the call panel and pressed a few buttons, and it responded with a happy chime and a 'ding'. After that, the elevator doors opened up. Again, no one. "They're playing games with us. Some traps, some red herrings. Stay on your toes."

Once the three of you had boarded the elevator, the CO sent the car down as far as it could go. "Looks like we're not going to be able to make it to the bottom from here. We'll probably have to switch over to another elevator or climb some stairs down." He growled to himself. "Damn it. This was supposed to just be a milk run. Go in, go out, and - "

A sudden jolt interrupts his thoughts. The elevator car screeches to a halt, its lights flickering before shutting off completely. You take out a flashlight and hold it out so that there was at least partial light in the car. Of course they'd do something like this. In fact, the cabin would probably start plummeting down to the ground or something, if you weren't able to get out fast enough.

Looking up, you see that there is no clear sign of an emergency exit. Good; that meant that it hadn't been tampered with. Probably. Then again, if they had gone through the trouble of sabotaging their own equipment...

The CO taps at the plucky mechanic's shoulders. "Get to cracking that elevator. I want our escape route to be intact." He whispered. In response, the girl flipped her middle finger right at his face and let it hover there. Only when the elevator rumbled again did she get down on her knees and get to work, taking out a few tools to start tearing apart the call panel's outer covering. It was a mess of wires on the inside, and she grabbed at your wrist forcefully to hold the light steady.

"I'm gonna need as much light as I can get if you don't want me to fuck this up, so don't go and move your fucking hand. This is a shitload of wires." snapped the woman. You only grunt in reply.

For a few minutes, you and the captain stood relatively still as she worked. You wanted to say something - anything - to relieve the tension, but all three of you had Skar's death on your minds. Gods damn it all, he was the last person you were expecting to die on this mission. And it seemed like just moments ago that you and he had been dicking around in the hangar, playing your shell game and getting caught. The others probably had similar thoughts about his death. He died so suddenly that it was actually hard to believe.

The elevator's lights flickered back on. With a smug smile on her face, Cuvic screwed the panel back on, pressing the call button to the lowest floor. "There you go, fucker. I got it working." She said proudly, giving the captain a challenging look.

When the elevator reached the second basement floor, the three of you stuck to the walls and peeked out of the open door. You seemed to have arrived at some sort of computing hall. It was a giant room, filled with cubicles and computers and all sorts of tech shit that you didn't have the head for. At the far side of the hall, illuminated by a solitary light, was an open door that led to some stairs.

"They can't possibly think we're this dumb. Then again, we DID follow them in here. This room probably has a lot of traps, so the best course of action would be..."

All this trap-work and underhanded shit was starting to get to you. If these people couldn't fight up front like a proper target, then you were going to force them to fight up front. "Captain, I'll break through the front. You and the new girl follow along behind me, and watch out for any traps that I leave behind." Before they could object, you jump out of the elevator car, square your shoulders, and begin to barrel head-long into one of the walls.

The cubicles crumble to your charge, not really able to withstand anything above a light beating. As you go through, beeps and whirs start to echo around the office. Rising up from some of the cubicles, human-shaped drones toting impressive weaponry start to fire at you. They can't seem to get a bead on you, probably because of the large chunks of cubicle wall that were hanging on your broad shoulders. The few bullets that did get close to hitting you only succeeded in shooting some of the cubicle walls that had stuck to your body.

A digitized roar caught your attention, and you skidded to a halt before diving into a cubicle. Right in front of the door, pounding around on huge, metallic paws, prowled a hulking beast made out of metal. Steam was pouring out of its body from every orifice, giving it the illusion of hiding in the mist. It was in the shape of some feline beast, plated in black metal that jutted out like patches of fur.
1/?
>>
>>39477668
There were gunshots from the other side of the office. Taking a peek over in that direction, you could see that the captain had been forced to hide underneath a desk, while a troop of ten drones fired at him. The mechanic was trying to catch their attention, but they didn't seem like they would budge from their target.

If you couldn't save the captain, the mission was all but lost. But the platinum panther blocking your way probably wouldn't just let you go without a fight.

Red-head Girl was able to hit a couple of them, but the second they started to look to her, the girl's aim started going wide. She dove into cover, but not fast enough to dodge a bullet grazing her ear. "Augh! FUCKING DRONES!" She yelped out. At least now, with the heat off of him, your captain could pop out and start to attack the drones from behind.

You had a much better plan in mind. Reaching down to your right thigh, you pull out a trick grenade. This was meant more to distract the enemy than to do damage do it, drawing enemy fire in the direction you wanted it to go. Pulling the pin, you dove out of cover, tossing it toward the panther and running back toward your team. The metal panther let out a loud meowing howl, lunging forward to start clawing at you.

With a small burst, the grenade burst open on its face. A small amount of shrapnel bounced off of the machine's hide, angering it and driving the beast to come at you more quickly. "That's it, come to me...come on!" You yell out. The drones were right there! So long as you could just peel away in time - now!

Sliding down to the ground, you grin to yourself as a giant panther pounced headlong into its own gaggle of allies. The droids didn't have any time to react, being crushed by the weight of the huge machine. Bits and pieces of plastid metal flew everywhere; a particularly sharp piece had jammed itself into your knee, making you howl out in pain as you pulled it out.

The metal beast was down, but not out. It had taken out a lot of the enemy's forces, but you were now laying flat on your back. If you didn't think of something soon, this might turn out to be a worse plan than you thought!

You scramble up to your feet just as the panther shakes off the last of its fallen brethren. Ignoring the pain in your knee, you dart to one side and hide with the captain behind a table. "Hey, there, captain! I brought us a friend! He's a little ornery, but that thing's the only thing stopping us from going downstairs to get the package! Got any ideas?"

"Yes, one - dodge!" cried the big bird, hitting the floor. You have scant few seconds to dive back as the panther crushes your current hiding spot with one swipe, roaring out loud in a simulated rage! The swipe dismantled the table, trapping the captain underneath a shell of wood and plaster wall. Not giving you any chance to catch your breath, the beast swipes once, twice, three more times at your body. You're only just able to dodge each one - that last one cut too close for your liking.

Three bullets clank uselessly off of the panther's side. Your mechanic was yelling out a steady stream of curses too strong for you to process, shooting right into the beast's tough flank. It only serves as a minor distraction, at best, but it was more than enough to let you hide and get your bearings.

That thing wasn't going anywhere any time soon. If you wanted to get that package, you would either have to do something drastic to disable it, or distract it while the two people retrieved whatever was downstairs...

You unhook the scrambling grenade from your pack. If you can't get it with this, then you're going to run out of options very, very quickly. "Kid!" You yell out. "I'm going to play a bit of hide-and-seek with this little kitty! Pull the captain out of the rubble, then head for the door! I made a clear path for ya right down the middle, there, so you should be green to go!"

Instead of an affirmative response from the girl, the roar of a panther reaches your ears. Well, you did say you were going to distract it! You begin to weave in and out of cubicle hiding spots, with the panther very hot on your heels. Each swipe sends a chill down your spine as the displaced air brushes your back, but you're just able to keep out of its range long enough for the mechanic to pull the CO out of his predicament and onto his feet. They headed toward the door by giving you and your adversary a wide berth.

When they were at the stairs, the girl shot two bullets toward the panther. "We're clear! Don't you fucking die on us, asshole!" She cried out. You pull the tab off of the scrambler grenade and toss it backward, hoping that the panther would be dumb enough to just walk into it again.

This time, it was a little bit smarter than that. It crouched down flat on the ground, hissing out even more steam to cover the room. The scrambler grenade flew past its back and hit the ground a long distance away, exploding harmlessly.

>>
>>39479052
Fuck, fuck, fuck! The grenade was enough to stall it, but only if it hit close enough to overload the panther's systems! And now the steam was fogging up the whole room and making it unbearably hot! For now, the panther was concentrating on creating this fog of war, so you had a bit of time to get your bearings. You're down one scrambling grenade, but you've still got the EMP mines, the precision wire cutter, and the remote-detonated plastic explosives...

>Options?

The fog wasn't helping you at all, but it probably wasn't helping the panther, either. It probably had some sort of heat sensor to see through the steam and mist, but that didn't mean that it could see the obstacles around it. Maybe. Probably. Thinking quickly, you take out the plastic explosives on your person...

----

By the time it was finished, the mechanical monster had filled the entire room with steam. No human could see much farther than ten feet past their face, let alone move around obstacles. Activating its heat sensors, it began to prowl forward, brushing aside anything that was in its way. Slowly, it crept up, until something caught its forward sensors. There was a heat signature hiding close to the entrance hallway. It seemed to be...running? Ah, its prey must have been injured.

Letting out a triumphant roar, the beast charged through cubicle after cubicle, heading head-long toward the entrance leading to the elevator. The fog was thinner there, since it was leaking out of the elevator shaft that led up, so the prey must have been trying to escape. Well, it was far too late for that. Rushing forward, the panther jumped toward you -

From behind your makeshift shielding of plaster wall, you could feel the impact of a few pounds of concentrated plastic explosion blasting a big, metal cat. It may have been strong enough to withstand bullets, but the metal beast's body couldn't handle something with the impact of an Orbital Frame; the panther's rear legs were shredded to pieces, blown all the way up to their joints and sending shards everywhere. Its face and left flank were similarly damaged, outer plating being ripped apart to reveal a garish inner skeleton of biometal. You were safe behind your shield, relatively speaking. The blast could only press the plaster walls against you, and while that normally wouldn't be enough to protect your body, a metal wall trying to hunt you down definitely helps soften the blow.

Before you could celebrate, however, two large paws thumped down on the floor. "Gods damn it, you robots just don't want to die, do you!?" You yell. While it had been crippled and damaged, there was still a lot of fight left in the monster. Your enemy was acting exactly like a cornered, damaged beast - dangerous to the last breath.

You could always finish the job, sure...but, then again, you could just leave it be. The beast can't chase you, right?

>Options?
>Finish it off with the EMPs. End its suffering.

No. No game left half-played, no job left half-finished. You step out of your hiding hole, slipping out of the panther's range before it could swipe at you. Just as you had hoped, the doors to the elevator shaft had been blown open, and the cabin had been dragged back up so that it would take time for any would-be attackers to escape. You had set up the explosives so that, if there was some small chance of your enemy living, you could do this next bit.

You step over to the panther's flank, planting your boot down on its side so that it couldn't wriggle to attack you. With the synthesized cries of your enemy acting as victory horns, you push it right on the edge of the shaft, just before it would fall. You stare down into its soulless eyes, its damaged body, and its dying movements.

"The house doesn't always win."

And with that, you shove the cat over the edge.

GAME SAVED.

Those metallic cries echoed down as the beast plummeted. Turning around, you start to walk over toward the other exit.

Just as you do so, you are almost blown over by a sudden pillar of fire jutting out from the open elevator shaft! It seems that there was a trap at the bottom - explosives, no doubt, or maybe a few turrets of fire that would activate if something fell down low enough to trip a laser alarm. If the mechanic hadn't turned the elevator back on, you probably would have fallen down. Hell, you and the captain would have been cooked alive.

Well, at least now you know that the beast isn't going to come back, any time soon. There seems to be a literal weight that lifts off of your heart, at this little tidbit of knowledge. You must have been more worried than you thought. Dusting yourself off, you breathe a sigh of relief and head downstairs...

HISTORY HAS CHANGED.
FOR ONE MAN, AT LEAST, FATE HAS BEEN DEFIED.

Congratulations, everyone. Sorry if this seems a tad short, but it's been six hours since I started and I've got a lot of planning to make happen. It's also one in the morning, which means I've got some sleeping to do!

??? Morale is now SKY HIGH!
Deimos is now MIA! This is still subject to change, however...

Did I do bad? Did I do good? I know it was a bit of a weak start, but I think my writing picked up around the middle. I'm hoping the third act will be just as good. Please let me know if you have any comments, concerns, or complaints!

>>39479947
