“Everyone cover your ears!” You turn to Meloetta. “Perish Song!”

Meloetta stylishly twirls as she sings out a haunting, echoing song. At least, the little you hear of it as you close your hands around your ears. It seems to keep going despite you seeing her mouth close.

The many Slaking begin to hurry as they advance on you. You feel the ground shake a little.

You see Jeanine mouth something. “Time to leave!”

You and your friends all start taking off into the forest as you feel the thundering beasts right on your tail. Vance retrieves his Sneasel and a few others retrieve their Pokemon as well.

You take your hands off your ears to hop over a branch. The sound of the Perish Song still rings, but you’re pretty sure it won’t knock you out. The Slaking are gaining hard though. They might catch up before they faint.

Meloetta keeps pace with you.

You keep running, but make sure you’re behind everyone else.

Robin turns back and looks concerned. “Keep going!” You usher her on. She trusts your judgement and pushes on.

She trusts your judgement. Huh.

You quickly toss handfuls of Pokeballs behind yourself at any Slaking you see. You’re not trying to catch them, just slow them down. A few hit and the massive beasts vanish in a flash of light for a few precious seconds. By the time they come out you’ll have enough distance and time not to worry about them probably.

You reach one hand for one of your Pokemon’s Pokeballs when, Erin, running ahead of you, pushes through a branch and unknowingly knocking a Metapod from a branch above. You catch it out of instinct.

You suddenly feel your leg lift out from under you. The world spins upside down and an angry Slaking scowls at you as you dangle in the air.

For a second you glance over to Meloetta and see her stop. She can’t help you directly because she’s tied up with a few Slaking herself, but she’s keeping the situation from getting any worse for you.

Perish Song should come into effect any second now. Blood rushes to your head as you pant heavily.

You point the green Pokemon at Slaking’s face. “Metapod! Use String Shot! ...Please?”

Somehow that works. Metapod fires a stream of sticky white goo into Slaking’s eyes.

“Now Harden!”

Metapod hardens and you use it as a sloppy club to hit Slaking while it’s distracted. You lose your grip on it, but it harmlessly falls to the ground without taking damage.

You however, are tossed into the air.

Wind and momentum whips your face back until your reach the zenith.

For a second, you feel a strange sense of peace as you slow to a stop in mid air. You see the Slaking all fall over and faint. Bird Pokemon fly from a bush. A couple of your friends slow down and look around. They don’t see where you went.

The blood floods back into your brain and you realize you’ll be coming down.

You let out a litany of swears and reach for Levi and Dan’s Pokeballs. You grab onto Dan. His eyes go uncharacteristically wide, but he catches on and does his best to slow the fall.

Levi’s ball flies through the air and releases into the pond. She glances around and sees you falling.

In fact, everyone is staring at you now.

You used to crave attention so much at the orphanage. Now you’re worried people are going to watch you break your face.

No time to think about that. You put Dan back into his ball as you both approach the ground. No awnaw in him hitting the ground too. He did a great job of slowing you down, but you’re still coming in hot.

You zoom past Levi, but feel a sudden jerk as you freeze in the air.

She’s holding you be the leg of your torn pant leg.

“Thanks, Levi. You really sav-”

She grins mischievously and lets you drop the 3 feet into the water.

You swim to the shore and glance around. Levi watches you with one eye cocked.

Your eyes scan around the immediate area. A curious Scyther sees you spot it. It’s undeterred until it sees Levi glaring at it. Deciding you’re none of his business, it disappears back into the bushes.

You take Dan out again.

“Thanks.” You look them both in the eyes. “You both really saved me there. You did a good job without needing to be told anything. I’m proud of you.”

Dan does what you think is a small blush. Levi is a little uncomfortable with such direct words and looks away. She doesn’t look displeased though.

Meloetta! Perish Song knocks out every Pokemon that hears it, even the user!

You head in the direction you saw her last.

Three trainers (you assume) are wandering around. They casually throw out Pokeballs at the fainted Slakings.

“What do you think happened?” The trainer casually punts Metapod out of the way.

“No idea. I thought we’d have a huge battle on our hands. Something knocked them all out though. That ranger is going to pay good money for-” He pauses. “What’s that?”

They all gather towards Meloetta. One reaches for a Pokeball quickly.

He’s going to catch Meloetta

“Levi!” You glance at her. She instantly understands and rushes out, roaring and making a huge racket.

The three trainers trip over themselves and swear and scream as they get away.

You take advantage of them panicking to grab Meloetta. You also gather up the Metapod. It’s a little tricky to hold onto both.

Meloetta seems okay, besides being knocked out. She breathes softly and has no new visible injuries.

Metapod feels way harder. Looks like he’s just been using that move a few more times. He’s more like a rock now instead of that tough leathery feeling he had before.

Alright, time to call Levi off. “Le-”

She suddenly freezes up as she’s struck by a Thunderbolt. It came from a Porygon from one of the trainers.

“Woah, woah!” The first one steps forward. “That yours?” He refers to Levi. “Let’s all just calm down. No need for anyone to get hurt here. We found that Pokemon here fair and square. Why don’t you hand it over?”

That sounded a lot more like a command than a request.

“Yeah,” you chuckle. There’s a twist of condescension in your voice. “Whatever you say buddy.” You take out Raistlin and hand Meloetta and Metapod to him. “Meloetta doesn’t want to be caught. Just be grateful I’m letting you keep all those Slacking I knocked out” You turn around and smile gleefully. Part of you wants a fight after seeing Metapod getting kicked. “Mmkay?”

Just as the words leave your lips, you see your friends and the camera crew arrive.

They whisper among themselves. Your little act and the fact that you apparently single handedly knocked out so many Slaking by yourself is really getting to them.

His eyes dart to you, your Pokemon, and your approaching entourage. “Alright. Alright, alright. Fair enough,” He keeps a cool tone as he catches the last Slaking in the area. “We’ll take the Slaking then and be on our way.” They vanish into the bushes.

Robin runs over and practically tackles you. “Are you alright?”

“I’m fine, really.” You’re melting under her attention.

She pulls away, her face suddenly sour. “I’m not l-letting you do that again! You always take on the danger yourself!”

Usually you’re in much rougher shape after these sorts of things. You don’t even think you got a new scar this time.

You kiss her on the forehead. “I didn’t mean to. I just happened to be in the back.”

You start to use a revive on Meloetta.

“You were in the back on purpose. You wanted to make sure everyone else was getting out first.”

Vance folds his arms. “Yeah, you’re a real monster,” he says sarcastically. You can see appreciation on his face though.

Clair laughs a little. She stops when Vance looks at her.

“It was on instinct,” you try not to sound like you’re humble bragging or whatever it’s called. “I just don’t want to see your or anyone else get hurt ag-” you look away from her eye patch.”...get hurt.. I’m fine, aren’t I?”

Ugh. That sounded too defensive. Is she going to be mad?

Robin hugs you again. “Just be careful, okay?”

You give her another kiss on the forehead.
You both turn to revive Meloetta. She stirs awake, weak. You give her a potion. “Hey. You feeling alright?”

She mutters a few low (for her) notes. She seems fine, just tired. The potion is sprucing her up quickly though.

Jeanine walks in from behind the camera crew and lifts up Metapod. “So what are you doing with this little guy?”

Metapod looks back at Jeanine. It’s really hard to read him. He can’t exactly express himself much.

Dan gives Metapod a reassuring nod.

You look down at your new accessory.

With nothing else to do, you and your friends start walking again.

Kroustou is going over some footage. Looks like he captured you riding Zappy Dan to safety. He looks incredibly happy.

You stick to the jungle. It’s nice to be a little more down and dirty with nature. Metapod bounces at your hip as you navigate some of the rougher terrain. You help Robin over a branch and continue on.

“This looks like a good spot to set up camp,” Vance looks out over a clearing.

He’s right. It’s getting a little late. You should probably set up here.

You take out your tent and get to work. Everyone does their usual setup work and gets ready.

You sit down next to the legendary Pokemon. She’s looking feint. “How are you feeling?” You put the back of your hand on her forehead. She feels fine.

Meloetta leans back dramatically. Robin fluffs her pillow again and gets her another Pokemon snack.

Clair’s laying on the bed with her feet in the air. She flips the page on her book as she “She’s faking it. She’s totally fine.”

Meloetta gets up and makes angry noises at Clair.

“Y-you took advantage of me!” Robin drops the pillow.

You hug Robin from behind and whisper into her ear. “Now there’s an idea.”
