>In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only... GOVERNMENT!
>You are John Erlwise Shabti, an imperial noble who was granted governorship over the planet Valencia. From your capital city in Valencia Prime, you over see the development of your planet and the growth of its power.
>Last time, we established our planet, cleansed it of an Ork problem, made trade deals with the Mechanicus and Death Korps of Krieg, and narrowly avoided a Necron attack thanks to the help of some mysterious Eldar, whom we ratted out.
>Number of months until Cathedral is finished being constructed: 2
You gaze at the screen before you, seeing the remains of the space hulk drift apart, the mass of metal broken apart by the Eldar beam. There is a possibility of salvaging some of the parts left, but that runs the risk of encountering surviving Necrons. Meanwhile, a single bright flash of light appeared on the moon after the Eldar blew up the hulk. Just what are they up to?
>What shall we do next? Inspect the debris of the hulk? Try and see what the Eldar are up to? Or leave it alone and focus on something else?

You decide that you have tolerated the Eldar presence here long enough and it was time they were eliminated. You organize an away team of your PDF and some of your personal guard and send them off towards the moon. As you approach, you notice that the Eldar have not opened fire on the ship like they did with the scout ship.

You decide to go forward with the landing anyways, not wanting to take a chance with the Eldar. Your soldiers make land fall on the fungal moon, the place covered in a thick jungle of massive multi-colored mushrooms. They move towards the spot where the Eldar had fired the beam weapon that shot down the scout ships and the space hulk. They report finding many Eldar structures and weaponry, but no sign of the xenos themselves. Suddenly, one of the squads reports contact. You switch you data slate over to a pict feed from the soldiers and see strange humanoid xenos, covered in fungus similar to the ones that covered the planet. Your soldiers open fire, blasting the first wave apart, but more of them keep coming, and more of your squads are reporting contact with these strange aliens.

You order a full retreat of your men. Luckily, while they are numerous and seem to take many shots to down, the fungi creatures are slow and zombie like, so your men are able to escape easily with very few casualties. Your men get back to the ship and begin heading home.
>It appears we have another xenos threat to deal with, though one so far only spotted on the moon. We could deal with them now, but then the salvage from the hulk might drift apart and be harder to find later. What shall we do next?

>>39872488
You decide to investigate the hulk first, and leave the fungi xenos for a later concern. The mechanicus assists in looking over the damaged remains of the hulk, sending out many sophisticated skull probes. It appears the hulk's exterior is mostly that of an imperial ship, but as one goes deeper, necrodemis is found, almost like an infestation of sorts. Indeed, it appears the strange living metal was spreading slowly over the imperial tech, cannibalizing the once sacred ship. The remnants of a few necrons are found, but they all seem to be inactive, having suffered massive damage from the Eldar blast. One thing left moving now are a few scarabs.
You receive a message from the magos in charge of the forge on your planet, Magos Xtevan. "Greetings Governor Shabti." He says in a monotone voice. "We are very interested in salvaging the remnants of the hulk. We are requesting the right to take any pieces found with that xenos material on it. We believe that..." He seems to pause for a few seconds. "Research into how this xenos material is spreading may allow us to prevent it in the future. You may have any uninfested remnants. Are these terms agreeable?"
>Should we take the tech priests offer, or is the risk too great? Or would we like the materials for our own usage?
>>
>>39872783
>take the tech priests offer
>>
>>39872783
Agree but request they take their bits far away from here, infestation is bad
>>
>>39872783

It is agreeable, we however most stress the need for isolation and precaution with the xenos material. Perhaps a research station on orbit instead of a facility on the planet?
>>
>>39872814
>>39872874
>>39872875
You agree to Xtevan's offer, but ask that the research be done in isolation so to prevent spread of the xenos metal. Xtevan nods. "Very well. We have been wanting to build a research station on the northern pole of this planet in order to research that coolant more anyways." He says before cutting off the feed. The salvage operation goes underway, and while the ship was blasted apart, you were able to salvage the general outer shell of the ship. It would take a while, but the ship could be given a new skeleton and repaired in working order again. Or it could be prudent to sell the materials off, as while we do have deals with the mechanicus and death korps, they are not the highest paying.
>What shall we do with the shell of a ship salvaged from the hulk? This will be the last decision of this month.

You decide the best course of action would be to us the shell in order to upgrade your family ship. After getting in contact with the mechanicus, they say they could strip the outer armor off of the shell and use it in order to better fortify your family ship. You give them the go ahead and they get to work.

>Cathedral will be done with construction next month
>Family ship is out of commission as it is being upgraded. It will be done at the end of the month.
You begin to receive reports of members of your pdf going missing, as well as one or two members of your family guard. Initial evidence reveals no signs of a struggle, like the missing soldiers just up and left. At the same time, there is still that race of xenos on the moon that need exterminating. >How should we react? We could quarantine all the soldiers that went on the mission, but there is no telling how far the infection has spread, if it can, by now. Plus, we still have a few troops missing.

You order for quarantine procedures to be taken immediately, sealing off soldiers set on the mission or those in contact with those that did. Luckily, the Death Korps offers to over see the quarantine procedures. None of them were sent on the mission, and since they all wear gas masks all the time, they reason they should be safe against any infection. The tech priests are also offering to have their biologis investigate into the matter fully. Meanwhile, however, those soldiers that are missing remain so, and there have now been reports of missing civilians.

Your soldiers discover the infected soldiers hiding out in the sewers. By now, they are covered in mushroom growths and have become mostly mindless. However, it is discovered they do retain enough of their personalities that they can fire weaponry such as las guns. However, your soldiers have the numbers advantage and force the infected back, getting them out of the cities at least, though they do escape into the wilderness. They'll be harder to find now, but there is less of a chance of them infecting anyone else.
Meanwhile, the biologis tech priests have discovered some infected soldiers amongst the ranks. After having them shot, they performed an autopsy. Apparently, the mush rooms release a spore which infects the brain of the host. It takes root, slowly taking over motor functions. After getting full control, it will attempt to find a dark place to grow further and spread over the rest of the body. The infected person is fully aware while they are being controlled, forced to watch as their body acts without them.

After much searching, your soldiers discover the remaining infected soldiers, who had taken cover in a valley. However, with them was a large mushroom, similar to those found on the moon. How it managed to grow so large in only a few weeks is a mystery for later. Your soldiers opened fire on the infected creatures, gunning them down. However, when one of the shots struck the giant mushroom, it burst, releasing a cloud of spores. Your soldiers were all wearing masks and protective clothing, but there is no telling how far those spores may spread.

The bombing campaign goes over very well, with Mechanicus scanners suggesting that the spread of the spores has been contained. However, bombing canyon where the initial mushroom was has proven difficult, the mountains around it making it hard for bombing planes to get a precise target. So, while the infection is now contained from spreading, it is not wholly off the planet. The mechanicus has suggested that the spores could be cultivated for usage as a biological warfare agent, while some members of the Death Korps recommend keeping the spores around to be used for training purposes. New regiments could be sent to keep the spores contained to the canyon and gain experience with flamers.
Meanwhile, an issue has arisen from our fighting of the spores: we are running low on promethium. We will need to import more, but with Roman Diaz on the way, sending out ships to get supplies might be difficult as we risk having them shot down.
>What is our next action?
>>
>>39876492
We will use the spores as a training regimen for new guards and PDF forces, using the spores as a biological weapon is a double edged sword in this case.

Send ships out but have them do it discreetly and only a few at a time, it will limit our reserves of promethium but it will reduce the chance of them being shot down.
>>
>>39876492
See if we can't get the Korps or the Mechanicus to help us out with the Promethium shipments. Picking a fight with a planetary governor is one thing, but the AdMech or on the premier Imperial Guard forces in the imperium is something even a Rogue Trader would have to think twice about.
>>
>>39876492
eliminate the spores. Fuck keeping them around. Too dangerous. Use the last of the promethium if we have to, we can get more if we need it.

As for Diaz, we could run our imports through Mechanicus ships. Diaz would be much less likely to attack them. Mechanicus fucking loves us don't they.
>>
>>39876673
>>39876590
While you deliberate about what to do with the spores, you ask the mechanicus to send off a supply ship for more prometium, reasoning that Diaz wouldn't dare attack a ship from the Mechanicus and risk their wrath. The Admech agree to this, saying they needed to send for more supplies anyways. The ship will return at the end of next month.
This month ends, and you still have a lot of problems on your belt. Diaz is on his way and you still have spores on your planet.

This does still leave the moon covered in spores, but without prometium, fighting there will only lead to more soldiers getting infected. In the meanwhile, Diaz is still coming, his intentions uncertain. Should we greet him with open arms or prepare our ships for battle?
>>
>>39876751
Torch the spores even if it causes a promethium shortage. Let Diaz come we should have enough naval assets to deal with him.
>>
>>39876933
Greet him with open arms, but make the mech aware that he tried to take their coolant, and tell the death korp that he might try and take their ceramite for his own use.
>>
>>39876933
Put our naval assets on alert. Approach him cautiously. If he wants to talk, we talk with him, if he's just passing through watch him closely, if he's going to be hostile then respond in kind.
>>
>>39876933
Be ready, but greet him openly.
>>
>>39876983

Seconded
>>
>>39876933
I say prep our Heavy family ship and Frigate for battle, but keep them hidden either near the Space Hulk or near the moon.

Prepare our ground forces to repel Rogue Trader ground forces.

We need to attempt diplomacy, before we start fighting.
>>
>>39876983
>>39877004

Not open arms guys. we should at least prepare for a fight even if we don't want one.
>>
>>39876983
this,
>>
>>39876933
Have half a regiment at our greeting house, to impress and show him we're not to be messed with, and have some civilians produce hazmat equipment. In fact, let's for some blueprints of that from the rogue trader.
>>
>>39877051
thats what we are doing, we can appear friendly and allow talking, while still having the ability to deny telling others to kill him.
>>
>>39876983
>>39876987
>>39877002
>>39877004
You decide you will greet Diaz, but cautiously. You make sure to tell your allies of Diaz's ways and your uneasy feelings around him. As his ship, Gold of the Sun, arrives, you receive a message from him. "Governor, I believe we got off on the wrong foot earlier." He says with an accent unfamiliar to you. "As such, I am hoping to make peace and would offer to host you and your companions as guests for a dinner aboard my ship. Perhaps then we can forget about our past arguments and attempt to talk business."
>Do we accept Diaz's request or not?
>>
>>39877111
its our planet, it would be wrong of us not to host him at our palace and give him the chance to worship at our new grand cathedral.
>>
>>39877111
Yes we can, however it would be rude to exclude the kreigers and the mechanicus, no?
>>
>>39877146
this, I don't trust this his intentions.
>>
>>39877176
And it has the benefit of making him look bad to the church and inquisition if he doesn't want to come to a grand cathedral.
>>

He threw the first punch. If he wants peace, he has to make himself vulnerable.
Invite him down to the planet instead.
>>

"Thank you for your offer." You smile slyly. "But it would be rude not to invite you to a dinner on my planet. We just had a new cathedral built that would be a wonderful place to dine." You say. Roman smiles back. "Very well, I bring the food, you offer the place. I'll come planet side in a few hours." His response surprises you.
>Now we have a dinner to plan. Who should we invite? What kind of festivities should occur? And what do we plan on talking to Diaz about?
>>
>>39880065
food is probs poisoned.

Well guys do we try and attempt diplomacy and risk him trying to kill/backstab/poison us or do we just blow him up when he lands?
>>
>>39880065
we should invite representatives of power to our little get together, generals, bishops', the mechanicus. We should also try to have some local dances and whatnot going on, things that our guards can respond to if they get out of hand.

Talk to Diaz about turning over a new leaf in this relationship and talk possible business ventures with him.
>>
>>39880065
Definintely not eating his food...

How good is this guy's ship? Can our Family ship and Frigate take it?
>>
>>39880065
We should invite head of the forge, commander of death korp, along with local bigwigs
>>
>>39880142
Diplomacy chat about how profitable the planet is and how we could be trading with him.
Invite everyone of note.
>>
>>39880219
Yeah, make it so that if he poison's everyone he's fucked
>>
>>39880219
Don't we have an exclusivity contract with the Death Corps? They won't like us openly talking about breaking our deal with them. Best not to invite the Krieger...
>>
>>39880188
Second
>>
>>39880279
we don't have to give him the ceramite, the krieger can help us emphasis this. And it might be a good idea to have someone at the table who could kill Diez without us getting directly involved.
>>
Guys this RT fucking hates us.

We ratted him out to the Inquisition. They interrogated him for months.

He wants to fucking kill us. Wanted to before we even ratted him out.

We need to prepare for things to go sour. Anything he does to seem nice is B.S. and just to get us to lower our guard so he can fucking stab us in the heart or poison us.

RTs are powerful and this one might not mind a little collateral damage of a few mech boys and a krieger commander if it means killing us.
>>
>>39880425
This is true, we should tell the krieger and mechanicus guests to be prepared for some sort of treachery.
>>
>>39880495

Yeah for certain
>>
>>39880188
>>39880219
>>39880495
We decide that it would be best to invite the head of the mechanicus and the Death Korps commander. After all, they are our closest allies and it would be good to have some back up. Both parties agree, though the Death Korps commander expresses his opinion that the event is pointless.
>Any other preparation we wish to do before the party?
>>
>>39880065
In the future can we go to the mushmoon get some fungal stuff. Infect some crates that we send him away with, his ship becomes infected. We send our frigate with an assault squad to clear the ship. Thus giving us another ship. Anyways this could be a suggestion for the future.
>>
>>39880701
set up guards and festive activities for entertainment, inform the guests of possible treachery and have the cooks be careful and check everything.
>>
>>39880783
This, scan the food if we have the capabilities
>>
>>39880701
Make sure to prepare a small gift for the RT for reconciliating our differences and ensure that our family ship is well guarded. We don't want them to sabotage the upgrade.
>>
>>39880875
It was already upgraded.
>>
>>39880783
this

Also do we have anything available for export? Are we just trading Ceramite to the Kriegers or the plasma coolant as well. Cuz this is gonna be a waste of time if we don't have anything to trade with Diaz.
>>
>>39880921
We have our fishing industry. But yeah, we're just trading ceramite with the kriegers currently, and have a small trade of coolant with the mechanicus
>>
>>39881223
Let's offer coolant for trade then.

We really need to make sure that we have a lot of security to check the event. I feel like things are going to go really wrong here.
>>
>>39881299
this. I doubt he'll want fish.
>>
>>39881299
Don't forget we still need to upgrade production.
>>
>>39881223
Shouldn't we be trading coolant with the kriegers as well? The contract was for both resources.
>>
>>39881223
I still think we should be start a cartel and become the Saudi Arabia of plasma coolant
>>
>>39881488

Definitely. We've been so reactive that we don't have much of a industrial base.
>>
>>39880783

>>39881299
You tell the guards to be on high alert during the party, and prepare a gift of coolant for Roman Diaz.
>Hours later
The party is abuzz, with many of the richer members of your planet coming to attend. However, there is an air of tension as you and the guards keep on the look out for something. Diaz seems to avoid you most of the party, seemingly more interested in attempting to seduce a female magos at the party. However, the dinner bell is soon rung and everyone goes to their tables, you sitting at your stage at the front. Roman stands, holding up a glass. "A toast, to renewed relationships!" He says, looking over.
>What is our response? A toast of our own? Do we even dare drink to his toast.
>>
>>39881794
Toast to the glory of the emperor and may his light shine on those who are loyal.

Hold up. Whilst the party was abuzzing, did we by chance happen to encounter the Lord Commissar (or most senior) attached to this Korps deployment?

I should think the Commander wouldn't attend a social gathering without him, and the Political Officer would just as likely invite himself if he were forgotten or overlooked.

Look, The Korps and Mechanicus are our most powerful allies but they're both about as sociable as deaf-mute Ogren Servitors in a Joygirl lineup and we are forever in constant need of friends-of-friends.

He may be an Imperial Commissar, but if he's attached to The Korps then by Commissariat Protocol he must not be Krieg-born himself and is therefore a fucking social butterfly compared to our current friends.

Let's take a shot at ingratiating ourselves to him. If nothing else he may know a reasonable Inquisitor with disposition towards sanctioned Xenobiological Research we may file a report with concerning the XenoFungus.

I'm concerned any Inquisitors we meet through our Ecclesiarch ally would be excessively Puritan in nature and would simply nuke the moon without entertaining the notion of studying this Bizzare Fungus.

Hell, this stuff was able to catch Farseers with their pants down, maybe a Radical working in tandem with the Mechanicus could develop a potent and unforseeable anti-Eldar bioweapon?

Discovery and brokerage of such a weapon would prove an impressive addition to the Family Almanacs.
>>
>>39884436
This sounds reasonable.
>>
>>39884436
Yeah that's a good plan
>>
>>39884436
I agree good call.
>>
>>39884436
(I have returned)
Yes, there is a commisar officer with the regiment of Kriegsmen posted here. He is a tall man, though some of that may come from his pointed hat, never seen without a sabre at his side.
>What would we like to approach him and say?
>>
>>39881860
(And forgot to cover our toast, shall do so now)
You raise your glass, offering a toast to the glory of the emperor and that his light shine on those who are loyal. You put an extra punctuation on the loyal part, before gulping down the amasec. It tastes... delicious, definitely a rare vintage one. You remember tasting wine this good only once or twice while attending parties held by some of the richer nobles.
>The dinner has started. Who would we like to chat with?
>>
>>39885724
yay.

idk. reassure him that whatever happens with Diaz, the contract between us and the Death Korps will keep a stable and steady flow of ceramite to the Korps.
>>
>>39885849
Fuck I hope we didn't just get poisoned.

I say we reaffirm/improve relations with the Death Korps like here: >>39885880

Then we move onto Diaz.
>>
>>39885936
second
>>
>>39885936
this.
>>
>>39885880
>>39885936
You move to go talk with the Commisar, who quite unlike the Krieg commander, seems to be enjoying himself. He has lifted up the bottom half of his mask even to drink the amasec, and so doesn't notice you approach until you start speaking. "Oh, sorry, you startled me governor." He says, lowering the mask. "Sorry about that, I haven't had amasec this good since I was at home." You make some small talk with him, finding out, surprisingly, that he actually comes from Holy Terra itself, having grown up there before signing up with the commmisariat. You subtly reaffirm that no matter what Diaz says, ceramite is going to the Korps and no one else. After finishing up, you move to go speak with Diaz, "Ah, there you are governor. I heard through the grape vine that you have some plasma coolant. What you say I buy it off your hands? Could make a pretty profit from it."
>What do we say back?
>>
>>39886075
say that would require some more deliberations and some more amesiac or whatever the wine is called.
>>
>>39886126
second
>>
>>39886126
Basically this. We want this to go through, but we want some assurance that this feud is over between us. We need to have a more private setting to go over the details.
>>
>>39886126
>>39886211
>>39886323
You smile and say you need more amasec and time to think before you could get into any trade deals. Diaz nods. "Yes, never deal without enough amasec." He says with a laugh. "Ah, here come my chefs. Prepare yourself governor, I imported in some rare Catachan jungle crabs for this meal, and they are not cheap to buy." He says as the servers begin to place dishes in front of everyone at the table.
>Do we dare eat it? Not doing so might insult Diaz, but there is still the risk he poisoned the food.
>>
>>39886413
we can wave it off due to allergies. Also we could have the entertainment start early, covertly of course to distract from any possible issues.
>>
>>39886413

Fuck. We're in over our head. Personally I wouldn't eat. I mean if all the dishes were placed in our seats, ours could have been specifically poisoned without poisoning the others.

Diaz has a good reason to hate us and as a RT has a reputation for boldness.
We need an excuse not to eat.
>>39886505
Perfect. Crab allergy works fine. Time to watch the opera or whatever anyway.
>>
>>39886569
>>39886505

We need to be as polite as possible, and make it seem like we suspect nothing. Have our crab taken away by a servant covertly during the entertainment. We want to test it for poison. That way we can test if Diaz was trying to kill us or not.
>>
>>39886640
Supporting.
>>
>>39886505
>>39886569
>>39886640
>>39886692
As the entertainment section of the night begins, you discretely have your crab taken away and ask for it to be scanned for poisons. Later on during the show, you get a message on your data slate from one of your chefs, confirming that... the meal was not poisonous what so ever. He had even tried one of the crab legs and confirmed it himself. It seemed Diaz is not trying to poison you, at least not tonight.
>Shall we try to trade with Diaz now, in light of this information? Or will we still remain wary of his ways?
>>
>>39886789
we will be more optimistic about him but still be somewhat wary, he can still try to kill us later.
>>
>>39886789
I agree we can deal, but we should not forget. Rogue Traders can hold long grudges after all.
>>
>>39886789
1. Keep tabs on that chef to see if the fool who ate crab that was suspected to be poisoned dies or gets sick any time in the near future. He might have missed something.

2. Might as well trade with the man. Profit is profit, but we'll keep our eye on him in the future. Let's give the appearance of burying this hatchet.
>>
>>39886837
>>39886874
>>39886890
You're still suspicious, but decide that you will deal with Roman Diaz, and go back to watching the entertainment.
(Calling it a night here guys. I want to thank everyone who came out and apologize for my frequent interruptions this session. I will be running this thread again Tuesday night, probably around 7 or 8-ish eastern standard time. In the meantime, enjoy this picture of Roman Diaz's trustworthy face)
