The year is 2089, and on the surface, this world seems just the same as ours. If you look more closely though, you will find psychics, mages, mythological monsters and more, all hidden from the general populace.
You are an agent of the Order of the Magus Hunters, the organisation keeping this secret from the rest of the world. They are troubleshooters, police, military and assassins all in one, and all so that the world can be safe.

The options are a guideline, not an absolute, which is why I will always include a Write in option. I may occasionally forget to add it but feel free to do so anyway. Some options I list are good, some are bad, most won’t be really awesome. I leave it up to you to find ways to do that.
Also feel free to ask things if they’re not entirely clear. I reserve the right to dodge the issue if it’s done for plot reasons, but otherwise I’ll gladly provide more information.
>>
>Last time on Magus Hunter Quest: your father displayed some emotion and told you he was leaving soon, brainstorm about what rooms to build, gather information for the raid, now called Operation Daybreak, and you choose to take the roadside cafe as your target. You train a lot, and thanks to a strange dream your psionic power and focus are somehow improved. You asked Milly to study yourself, and after she got the data she needed you went to bed.

You wake up. 6:50. Good.

No dream. Also good. You think.

Going through your morning routine, Wooster informs you that there was indeed no change tonight.

You go downstairs and have breakfast. Wooster follows you, but when Katherine arrives you notice Wooster is also standing next to her. You look to ‘your’ Wooster for a moment, and he clarifies.

“I have sufficient strength to manifest multiple avatars, master. It was slightly confusing at first, but I’m staring to get the hang of it. It allows me to better serve all the residents at once, and people prefer talking to a face instead of a disembodied voice.

Makes sense.

Halfway through breakfast, after Milly and Raphael show up and complete the team, your com goes off.

Lilliana.
>>
You excuse yourself and quickly head to your office. “Yes ma’am?”

“Morning Weston. I’m sending you all the tactical data we have. It’s been decided that each team leader will have most of the reigns themselves. Practically, that means that other than ‘don’t let anyone notice any mystic activity’, ‘don’t let anyone escape’ and ‘find the drugs’, you don’t have much more specific orders.”

You nod to yourself as you boot up your computer and start looking through the info she just sent you.

“More practical information for you is that you’ll have two extra squads under your command. The Vindex was against you getting command, but I assured him that you were capable enough and more familiar with the terrain than our other teams. Don’t disappoint me.”

“I won’t ma’am.”

“Good. The team rosters are in the info I’ve sent you. The attack starts at 11 am on the dot, we’re doing an extra automatic sync of everyone’s coms to make sure everything goes down at the same time.”

You do a quick skim of the info. Team roster. Map and tactical data, most of which is probably what you gave them. Who to contact in case you need more backup fast. That seems to be it.

>1. Ask Lilliana something (specify).
>2. Ask if you could requisition someone extra for the operation (e.g. Helena).
>3. Look through the Team Roster

Have Wooster draw an image over table in the dining room and pore over it with the team. Milly will surely have something to say, especially if she got that camera feed from the inspector.
>>
>>39936566
>2. Ask if you could requisition someone extra for the operation (e.g. Helena).
Helena might be helpful for the ‘don’t let anyone escape’ bit.
>5. Write in.
Options 3 and 4 together with our team. We are in command, but we do appreciate their input.
>>
Ok, writing.
>>
“Has there been any more movement since our attack last time? No sudden discrepancies in other parts of the city?” You ask.

“They’ve been keeping a low profile. Most activity we could find was around their drug operations, and that was in accordance to what your source told you. More of their troops being moved there for security, probably.”

“Would I be allowed to requisition someone else outside of the team?”

“Hmmm…” You can almost hear her frown through the com. “That depends, who did you have in mind?”

You tell her about Helena’s previous assistance to your missions, and explain that she and Dax could be useful in both locating the drugs and possible traps or hidden areas, and to make sure no one gets away.

“Very well. I’ll drop pass a message to the Oculus, but I don’t think they would mind. Anything else?" She asks.

“Thank you. That’ll be all.” You say.

“Good luck on this one Weston. This is a bit above werewolf hunting.” She lays in the call.

You head back to the dinner table and move everyone to the living room. “Wooster, would you please?” You gesture to the tablet you copied the info to. In front of you appear two things. A tactical map of the cafe and the area, and a list of the members of the two squads you have been given command over.

You give a quick outline of what Lilliana told you, and inform them that Helena will most likely be joining you too. After that, you go to the squad roster.
>>
Squad 1:
>Vindicator Primus Harvey, specialisation Bruiser.
>Vindicator Johnson, specialisation Social
>Vindicator Grant, specialisation Sniper
>Vindicator Phillips, specialisation Bruiser
>Vindicator Farley, specialisation Soldier
>Vindicator Drake, specialisation Caster, Psion

Squad 2:
>Vindicator Primus Ridley, specialisation Soldier.
>Vindicator Bacon, specialisation Sniper
>Vindicator Saunders, specialisation Bruiser
>Vindicator Astra, specialisation Soldier
>Vindicator York, specialisation Caster, Magus
>Vindicator Castor, specialisation Caster, Magus

You recognise some of the names from when you were given the choice between team members. Others are new to you. Of special note is that squad 2 seems to has an extra caster on top of the regular doubling of the Primus’ role.

You bring up some general background. Squad 1 has been deployed as an all purpose team and has had several awakening missions under its belt. They also had an unexpected run in with some vampires thanks to Vindicator Johnson, but there don’t seem to be all that many details about that.

Squad two has been deployed as a heavy hitter squad, with two soldier roles and two mainly offensive casters. Their mission log looks a lot more impressive, but there’s also several members listed to the side as inactive from injury.

>1. Look into details of each squad member.
>2. Continue on to the map and tactical data.
>3. Write in.

> I haven’t had the opportunity to prepare the full roster, so it’ll take longer than usual if you pick that option.
> I could write the roster in the voting downtime after this, if people want to see it but not wait too long for it.

It's okay, no known assholes in those squads. Find out just how crippled Sqad 2 is, then proceed to the map and data..

Don't underestimate the baddies. Their success in eluding order may hint at someone feeding them intel, so we should be cautious of ambushes.

I just realised I forgot to have Lilliana tell you about the rendez-vous.

So yeah, she told you that you'll rendez-vouz with both squads at 9 at a specified location not too far away from the cafe. There you'll have the opportunity to get to know them and talk shop with them.
>>
Vindicator Primus Peter Harvey:
>Age 31
>Active years: 9
Peter was a wild magus with very little talent that slipped through the nets of the Oculus, when he was noticed when practicing his magic and promptly recruited. Thanks to his sports background he chose to be trained as a Bruiser specialist.
He has proven to be loyal to the Order, and while having had a safe and relatively uneventful awakening, he realises he’s been lucky and his main motivation is to allow others to be raised safely with their talents. He has requested to be mainly deployed to Awakening missions.

Harvey has only recently been promoted to Primus and has proven to be a capable leader. During the vampire incident he proved to be able to take well to sharing command with another Primus. Arbitrator James suggests involving him in more joint operations outside of his comfort zone.

>Vindicator Primus Cassidy Ridley
>Age 25
>Active years: 6
Cassidy is a mundane introduced into the Order by her father, Arbitrator Ridley. She has been trained in general combat and gunplay according to her talents, and has been tutored by Edward.
Cassidy’s exact motivations seem unclear, but she seems determined to prove herself. She has proven herself to be a valuable asset and her skills had proven to be wasted as a regular Vindicator. She puts the mission above all else, but knows when to retreat to not waste lives.

Ridley has been promoted half a year ago, and has delivered excellent results. Despite being deployed on high risk missions as shock troops, she has kept friendly fatalities at a remarkable 0, though due to injuries she has requested and been granted a larger team to cycle out those that have been wounded.

>>
>>39937851

You bring up the profiles of the team leaders. You wonder how these people will handle being ordered around by you.

>Should have been before that. I mis-copypasta'd
>>
That seems ok, you figure. You notice Ridley was tutored by Edward too. You doubt that anyone in the Order would note down ‘Edward’ if they meant anyone else than your old mentor.

You try to dig a little deeper on what exactly the vampire incident was, but aside from it involving Johnson you can’t really find much.

On to the tactical data then. You make sure everyone read through everything they wanted and swipe to the side in the air. The text slides sideways and disappears, only to reveal the map of the cafe.

It’s fairly straightforward. There’s a junction in the highway, one going straight towards or away from London, and the other one heading towards Oxford. About two hundred meters away from it is a roadside parking with the cafe. There’s one small path between the trees to the side heading towards a nearby village, but it’s not accessible by car.
>>
The cafe itself is in the center of the parking attached to the gas station building, though from the blueprints you can see that there’s no door connecting the two. The building has 1 front entrance pointed towards the highway and one service entrance at the back pointing towards the small tree-side path, plus a side garage for deliveries. Everything’s on the ground floor. The cafe hall itself, the kitchen, the storage area and the attached garage. It’s all fairly small.

A bit too small you figure, if they want to do the large scale drug dealing they apparently do next to the legitimate business as a cover. Perhaps they made some modifications. Built an extra room, maybe dug out a small cellar or something.

The main problem you see is that it’s all wide open. The only way they could fail to see you coming from the front is if they were blind, and they have a clear view of vehicles arriving at the parking itself. The only way to approach entirely unnoticed is by the small path and by the side and back entrances, but that would forego having any kind of vehicle on the terrain itself which again is less than ideal.

>1. Ask the team’s input (ask anyone specific? Or just in general?).
>2. Continue on to the rendez-vous.
>3. Write in.

>My copypasta skills are weak. I must strive to improve them!
>>
>>39937916
>1. Ask the team’s input
Ask the military guys. Maybe we can get a vehicle into the parking lot with some heavier weapons and use the cars as cover to setup some rifles/crewed weapons?
>>
>>39937916
>1. Ask the team’s input (ask anyone specific? Or just in general?).

Liam: check for any probable sniper locations and find your own.
Nathan: can you figure out a clearing pattern for the cafe?
Raphael: you're on magical trap duty with me.

Station the snipers - we got 3 - to cover both streets and the path, and requisition a tourbus or two. Pose as tourist group on the approach, crack down once you get close.

Delegate to your team.
>>
>>39938076
I like the tourbus idea
>>
>>39937916
Make sure to dedicate one of the teams to watch the village path.

Are there suitable spots around for Liam to settle in?
>>
>>39938076

Everyone aboard for the tourbus? It would both provide cover and act as a decent place to give covering fire.

>>39938011
I rolled for it, and yes there is.

I'll start writing the team input.
>>
>>39937916
>3. Call Lilliana back, ask her if the Order has found out about those gems on the Casters' heads. Can we shoot them off/remove them, and will that remove their ability to sequester their memories, or should we knock them out asap?
>>

All aboard the tourbus!!
>>
>>39938158
Tour bus sounds like a great cover, we can have a few others come in from other areas (walking, biking).

“So people, any suggestions? Liam, you see any sniper spots there? Nathan, what’s your take on clearing out the cafe? Raphael, any place you think would have magical traps?”

Liam takes the word. “Most obvious one would be at the gas station’s pricing sign here.” He points towards the side, at the entrance of the parking. “The problem with that is that there’s no way anyone could get on there without being noticed. Wooster, could you zoom out a bit please?”

Wooster complies, and Liam takes some time studying the map as the intersection of the two highways comes into view. One going over the other with a bridge. “Zoom in on the bridge please? Yeah, as I thought. If you could drop me off on the bridge on the way there, I’d have full view of both the cafe and the surroundings. Other sniping spots could be the hills to the side here on the other side of the road, and perhaps inside the treeline itself, though we wouldn’t be able to know until we’re there. Of course, we’d be really scattered.”

You nod and look at Nathan. “Well, there’ll probably be civvies inside the cafe. I doubt we’ll be able to get them out without warning the enemy we’re there. The service entrance and the garage are very close to each other, so you could use a single team for that.Three teams seems a bit clumsy to all go inside for such a small building, so I’d suggest keeping at least one of them outside as a reserve. Squad 2 seems to be mainly focussed on combat, so I’d say they can be our cavalry.”
>>
Raphael’s turn. “Well, the service entrance and garage are obvious places for magical boobytraps, and going from the fact they put one on the front door of a shop before they seem to prefer certainty over subtlety when it comes to those. Otherwise I would have said they’d keep magical stuff to a minimum. For the rest… It depends on where they’re hiding the drugs. The cafe room itself should be clear at least, except maybe a trigger-able one on the door for at night or when they’re having unwelcome company. Like us.”

Hmm, all good info. You tell them of your own idea. A tour bus. You don’t all have to be inside it, maybe half or so, but it’d provide cover and a heightened position for covering fire.

“I like it.” Says Liam. “It could be useful as a close-range sniping base, or even just to house the backup.”

“It would put us in closer quarters with them, and I’m all for that.” Blake adds.

You look towards Milly. She’s been quiet so far. “It would work.” She says once she notices your attention. “We don’t know how many of them are in there, but from the looks of things I doubt if it’d be more than ten. Two to four in the cafe, again two to four, maybe five in the kitchen. Possibly a few more at the storage, but if there are I’d say those are dedicated guards of their merchandise.

>You don’t have to decide on tactics right now, you can still do that at the rendez-vous, but all theorising is welcome of course.

>1. Go to the rendez-vous.
>2. Ask something else.
>3. Write in.
>>
>>39938160
You quickly call Lilliana back. “Ma’am, I just remembered something. Those red gems of theirs. Do we know anything new? Should we try to remove them or avoid messing with them and just knock them out ASAP?”

“From the ones you gave us we found out removing the gem also triggered the memory block. Our experts are still working on it. Knocking one or two out for questioning is preferable, but don’t hesitate to use lethal force. As you’ve told us, they don’t seem to be bothered a lot by stunners.”

"Very well. Thank you ma'am."

Indeed, can we simply requisition a tour bus? Won't be that easy right?
>>
>>39938563
With a proper Face, a good deal of "For-Queen-and-Country" and a pinch of (psionic?) bullshittery - and a receipt - it's no problem at all.
>>
>>39938472
Because our objectives are: Don't let the public in on magic, don't let anyone get away, and get the stuff, we should consider that they've either upgraded their defenses or this may be a trap. We need to have our Cavalry ready to storm in there asap, and have an advance team disable their alarms and magical protections.

You tell your team to get ready, and they all head off except for Milly. “Sir, I’d just like to inform you that I will be in contact with my sisters during this operation to coordinate our efforts. If we receive major news from other areas I will relay it to you asap.”

“Thank you, Milly.”

You head to your office and make a few calls. It’s not that easy, but you manage to get your hands on a tour bus before you have to leave. With everyone geared up you get into your vehicles and drive off to the rendez-vous. The bus will be there, along with an Order driver.

You arrive at the rendez-vous point at 8:45. Fifteen minutes ahead of schedule. It’s a remote area in the countryside, but not too far away from the highway which will take you to the cafe. It seems one of the squads is already there. Ridley’s, from the looks of things.

They have large white van of their own. A bit too conspicuous for your own tastes. As you exit, Cassidy Ridley greets you.

“So I finally get to meet you, Weston. Eddy’s rising star!” She’s grinning, and the rest of her team looks at you expectantly. You wonder if they know they could have been standing behind you right now instead of in front of you.

We should probably put a sniper on that bridge. Whichever one has the least amount of close combat expertise.
>>
>>39939373
Au contraire buddy. If you leave a sniper alone, you want it to be the one you don't have to babysit.
That's why Liam expressed his concern of the snipers being scattered.
A sniper like Liam himself can have those vital seconds of foresight should his position be compromised
>>
You smirk. “Rising star? I doubt those were his words. So how’s old Eddington? Still as demeaning as ever?”

“Oooh yes. I still come into contact with him every now and then as our resident vamp expert. And he really did say that. In fact he can’t shut up about how much more promise you showed than his other pupils. I was kind of hoping you’d be an asshole and I got to smack you or something.”

Wait, Edward singing your praise? Did you end up in bizarro world or something? “He… Really said that?” The look on your face must be telling, because Ridley’s taken aback.

“You mean you didn’t know?”

“All he ever did was push me further and further to my limits and put me down if I failed. He wasn’t really one to give praise.”

“Huh. Sounds like he’s harder on the ones he likes then. At least he gave me some encouragements every now and then. Anyway, let’s get to business. Let me introduce you to my crew.”

She goes by every one of her team members, introducing them in a few sentences. “Samuel Bacon, sniper. Resident scary black man. Can hit the wings off of a fly at half a kilometer range.” Samuel shoots you a friendly smile.

“Jeffrey Saunders, Priest, but no kiddy fiddler. I know, weird, right? Mean right hook to smite the inhuman ungodly abominations.” Jeffrey seems to be rather glum.

“Alexandra Astra, more black than the black guy, and shoots almost as well. Inhuman ungodly abomination and loving it.” Alexandra has a strange smile of someone who knows more than she’s letting on. She’s also not black at all, but caucasian, though you remember from her file that that’s an illusion.

“Jenny York, brat, pipsqueak, and thrower of huge fireballs. Always good at children’s parties and barbecues.” Jennifer looks a bit uncertain. She’s still exceptionally young.
>>
“And last but not least, Castor, another part of the freak show. He’ll pop out his other half Pollux once the action starts.” There’s a certain inhuman quality to Castor, but you can’t put your finger on it.

At this point, the second team arrives at the same time as the tour bus. Primus Harvey looks like a serious man. Definitely lot more serious than Ridley.

“Vindicator Primus Weston, Ridley.” He nods at the two of you. “I suppose you’ve gone over my team’s file? Then they need no introduction. what’s the plan?”

>1. Hold on there, could you introduce your team to me? Your assessment is a better judge of their capabilities than a file.
>2. Very well, planning time. (formulate a plan yourself, I’ll pick out a few and maybe add some more approaches and you’ll be able to vote on those then.)

>3 Maybe it was his way of pressuring you, Ridley. Commenting on the other pupils
>>
>>39939573
There's really no point in grouping snipers together. As soon as shit hits the fan, everybody with half a brain dives for cover, limiting available targets. It also gives the snipers just one angle of attack, which leaves the opposite side of the building pretty much uncovered by them. Let them spread out and bring their ghillie suits.
>>
>>39939573
>>39939688
I admit, a 3-man sniper team sounds fearsome but the other anon is right...A modern sniperteam usually only embodies a single sniper and maybe one man with a scout rifle. The others are protection
>>

>>2. Very well, planning time.

How about putting a magical mine on that? Like a shock trap?
>>
>>39939739
There is a sewer manhole at the parking right next to the cafe and out of view from inside. It's a way of getting close to the building without being seen other than the treeside path.
>>
>>39939847
If the place is a base for magical drug cartel they might have access directly between sewers and the basement, no?
>>
>>39939779
I agree with this view... But allow the snipers to move independantly, not as a unit.
>>
>>39939876
It's a possibility that they use the sewers themselves yes. And even that they dug a hole in the building or something.
>>
>>39939902
When they use the sewers, Dax might be able to smell it without entering. Let Helena check that out. IF The sewers are used, send in a three-man-team... Michael, a caster with a knack for fireballs, and a soldier. In those close quarters, there's no time or space to fuck around, so go full nuke.
>>
>>39939948
Sewers are tight quarters. I'd rather have a non-explodey caster there. Psion, maybe? Also a melee specialist.

But yeah, three-man-team to guard Helena and her pup as they scout the sewers before the operation starts sounds good.
>>
>>39940040
That's the exact reason I want an explodey caster down there. Tight quarters, lots of Dakka and Bomf, and our PC has the necessary abilities to shield the group from it's own firepower beyond point-blank range.

Helena and Dax might not need to go down there. Just a woman and her dog taking a stroll, y'know, and the dog sniffes on the sewer entrance like dogs sniff on everything...

But I think keeping one sniper in the bus can really be an asset
>>

Meh. The bus will be... 15 meters from the building? 20? 25? Bad distance for a sniper. Too close to the enemy, too easy to spot, no covered escape routes, wrong weapon for a stand-off.

Helena will check out the sewers as a girl walking her dog before you begin the attack and report.

You have a live camera feed from inside the cafe area thanks to DCI Nettles. It might prove useful

I might be taking some liberties with the votes here, but I want to get an actual battle plan finished in this thread. Still, this seems to be the main battle plan.

Writing the setup. The actual start will go down this Saturday.

It pretty much is. Should Helena and Dax find something, we'll assemble a three-man team from ours and Ridley's team to attack through the sewers or block any escape attempts.
>>
Unarmed wat do
>>
>>39940652
put your points into strength and agility and find yourself a power fist. also all of the stimpaks.
>>
One last question:

Will you consider every staff member to be hostile and go full lethal, or will you take down everyone non-lethally aside from the robed people?

It's still assumed you'll try to take a few people captive for interrogation even if you go full lethal.
>>
>>39940697
Shock everything into submission with magic and noise, everything that doesn't freeze within 2 seconds can eat a fireball.
>>
>>39940697
Non-lethal. Let's not be That Guy.
>>
>>39940652
Install the Nordic Kung-Fu mod and use magicka to chi punch enemies into the walls.
>>
>>39940697
non-lethal. information is important.
>>
T. Rex are tyrants because they steal eggs to have at breakfast.
>>
>>39940787
But their arms are so tiny. How would they even pick up the eggs?
>>
>>39940842
That's the true tyranny, they force their minionsaurs to commit the atrocity getting them.
>>
>>39940697
Prioritize grabbing the mages. Lets try to KO a few asap before they can protect themselves.
>>
>>39940697
non-lethal is preferred, but anyone who takes hostile action can eat a bullet.

As you form the battle plan, Helena arrives in her little thing vaguely resembling a car. She greets you warmly, and gives a friendly nod to Harvey, who replies with a short “Agent Sanders”. They must have met before.

You fill her in on the details and her part to play, and split up. Squad 1 and 2 go into the bus, with 2 serving as the shock troops and 1 as backup if things get too hot. You’ll be approaching from the trees, though you switch Liam around with Grant.

You depart, and the bus takes the long way around, first dropping off Bacon on the far side of the hills opposite of the cafe. It then circles around onto the highway to drop off Liam at the bridge.

While it’s doing that, you’re already in position at the trees to the side of the cafe. Helena went onto the parking with Dax, sniffing around a bit. She really just looks like a young woman letting out her dog. At around 10:50, she returns to you.

“The sewers seem mostly clear, though Dax thinks some of the drugs have been transported through them. Too little to be their actual supply though. Might be someone skimming from the supply a bit and getting it out through there? Anyway, the rest of the cafe is much like that store from last time. Dax got a close look at that one so he managed to spot it. The front of the cafe is clear, but there’s a magical detection-hampering field on everything behind the customer’s area.”
>>
The bus arrives in the distance, and parks right next to the cafe. It’s positioned so that anyone walking around the corner at the cafe entrance will have their view on the treeline blocked so you have an even safer approach. You hear squad 2 get out over coms, posing as tourists stretching their legs. Their civilian clothes are bulky enough to hide their combat gear. The only thing they don’t have on yet are their helmets, which they carry around in a few of their backpacks. Squad 1 is fully geared up inside the bus, hidden from view by the one-way windows.

10:58

All of a sudden you see the service door open. You tense up for a moment. It’s a woman in her early thirties, dressed in store clothing. You relax a bit as she lights up a cigarette. This is ideal. One less inside.

10:59

Grant moves up next to you. He’s a tiny man, barely any muscle, but a twinkle in his eyes betrays his keen mind. “Allow me,” he tells you as he lines up his shot. His sniper is a clear custom job. Two separate clips forgive me /k/, for I know nothing of firearms are attached with different ammo, and a complex mechanism allows him to switch between the two.

Your alarm beeps as it ticks over to 11:00.

The attack has begun.

>And that’s it for now. If you’d be so kind as to already roll me a mind check to find traps, that’d be grand. 1d100, best of first FOUR! Remember, 1’s only count as critfails within the first three dice. 100’s do not have that restriction.

>Next Thread will be on saturday, but I’m afraid that might be the last time I’ll be able to run. My last week before the exams is filled to the brim with tests and assignments that need to be handed in.

>Good night, sorry for the slow and weird thread, I haven’t fully mastered the managing of battle planning.

They can. No modern ones do.
