Last time, on Star Dust Quest...

The facility you swept only raised more questions. Who was the Harbinger? Why is this 'Legion' after Comet? The girl you uncovered only made things stranger. According to her, the Federation tried to 'help' her, but ended up just making her a lab rat. Her blood was laced with mana, and while she should be dead to such exposure, she wasn't. Oh well, with Freeport Station on the horizon, you've decided to keep her in your ship while you deal with the contracts you've accepted.

There it is, the venerable Freeport Station. While not quite as big as Stardust Station (only about a third of its size), it's still quite a huge piece of metal.

“We are only about three kilometers out,” Ivan says next to you, steering the ship towards the open maw of the station's receiving hangar. “We should be in our own hangar in ten minutes.”

“Alright,” you say, getting up from your seat. “I'm gonna go meet with the crew. Are you gonna go down to the station as well?”

“Of course, comrade,” he says, looking to you. “It is always interesting to explore stations. I have been in Freeport more than once.”

“Good. I suppose you'll know your way around then?”

“I do. I think I will pass by the liquor store.”

“Heh, I like how you think.” With that, you walk to the back of the ship to see how your crew is doing. However, you don't see anyone at the infirmary, so you start to wander until you hear voices coming from the ship lounge.

“...And I've never had better. Maybe I'll take you there later,” you see Bethany say, sitting at the end of the corner couch. She's facing Ley'ra, who's sitting on the love seat opposite of her. Both of them are holding mugs of what you think is coffee.

Beside Bethany is Comet, wrapped up in a bundle of blankets where only her head is showing. A glass of water rests on the coffee table in front of her. And beside Comet is Troy, leaning against the corner of the couch.

“Thank you Bethany, that would be nice,” Ley'ra says, taking a careful sip from her mug. She turns to you when you enter the room. “Oh, hello, Cap-Gavin.”

“Hi,” you say, walking up to the group.

“Hello, Gavin,” Troy says.
>>
>>40016944
“So, who's going down to the station?” you ask, causing your crew to give each other glances.

“Well, I'm staying with Comet, like you said so,” Bethany answers. Troy gives a knowing nod, indicating that he's staying as well.

“I'm going,” Ley'ra says. “Viktor said he wants to go, too. How about Ivan?”

“Yeah, he is,” you answer. “I'm gonna go to the markets to meet with our contact for our first contract. Troy, if you could, please unload the cargo? It's only 2 tons of stuff and we have a hoverlift for that.”

“Sure can,” he responds.

You feel the ship decelerate before touching down on solid floor, likely as Ivan landed the ship into a ship hangar. Looks like it's time to go to the station.

>Ask Ley'ra to accompany you. She'll likely have some advice for weapons or armour for the crew.
>Call Viktor to accompany you. You're going to need ship weapons for the upcoming contract, so his advice could be valuable.
>Bring Ivan. Maybe his experience with ships can provide insight on what you need.
>Write in.

“Alright, Ley'ra. You can come with me, I could use your input for weapons and whatnot.”

“Okay,” she says, sipping her coffee once more before putting it on the table.

“I'm gonna get Viktor, too. Could use his expertise,” you say, turning away to raise your smart-ring to your mouth. “Viktor, you there?”

After a moment of no response, he speaks. “Ah, yes. What is it, Gavin?”

“Mind accompanying me and Ley'ra to the markets? I could use your input on ship modules.”

“Of course.”

“Great, meet me at the air lock.” You turn to Ley'ra. “Let's go, no time to waste.”

“Alright.” As she stands up, you leave towards the air lock of your ship. There, you meet Viktor.

The door to your ship lowers itself, revealing to you the hangar you're in. It's relatively large, smaller than the one you had in Stardust. Regardless, as the door touches down on the hangar floor, you begin to walk. Eliza, your contact, said she was on floor H.

It doesn't take you long to navigate to the elevator nearby. After calling the elevator, you give one last look to the Feedbacker behind you to see Troy bringing the supplies out on the hoverlift towards the supply lift to bring it to your contact.

When the elevator door opens, you step inside with Viktor and Ley'ra.

“We're going to floor H,” you say, pressing the button to take you there.

“I have only been in Freeport Station once,” Viktor says as the elevator begins to take off. “From what I understand, there's a lot of good Federation technology here.”

“I've never been, but I've heard of this place a lot,” Ley'ra chips in.
>>
>>40017230
It only takes half a minute for your elevator to reach your floor. When the door opens, you're brought to a fairly large room that's relatively bustling with activity.

Your smart-ring pings you and when you look at it, it acknowledges that there is a local intranet for station market browsing.

“Let's go find our contact,” you say to your crew members, who return a nod. You browse through the floor, passing by plenty of stalls for various goods and food. However, it's the weapon store you're looking for, since that's where Eliza said she worked. Upon passing by a milsurp clothing store, Ley'ra found a sudden interest on the jackets. That's when you remember there's a hole in her current one. You couldn't help but laugh when she bought another red jacket.

Finally, you get to the indicated stall, and boy is it larger than the others. A healthy variety of weapons stock the shelves behind the counter, ranging from small handguns to rocket launchers. This can't be run by a Fed...

“Howdy,” a woman's voice startles you. Standing behind the counter is a woman wearing a simple brown cap and jacket. “Looking for something new?” she asks, eying the rifles slung over the three of your backs.

“Hi, are you Eliza Dent?” you ask, stepping forward.

“That I am,” she answers, leaning on the counter. “Who wants to know?”

“Ah. I'm Captain Gavin Ashworth--I accepted your contract from Stardust Station?”

“Oh, mighty! I reckon' you're here to claim your reward?” she says, excitedly.

“Yeah, I guess so.” You gesture to your crew behind you. “These are my crew members, Ley'ra and Viktor. You should receive the supplies you requested soon.”

“Actually...” she trails off, picking up a datapad nearby and peering into the screen. “Yup! I just received it from your hangar. Thank you kindly, sirs and madam,” she says, giving the three of you a little bow. Both Ley'ra and Viktor give approving nods.

“It's no problem at all, Ms. Dent.”

“Aw, please. Call me Slips--everybody here does that,” she says, looking back to her datapad. “Lemme just forward you the credits and it'll be all good.”
>>
>>40017586
“Sure thing, Slips.” A little ping on your smart-ring alerts you to a new deposit of money. Looking at it, you see an increase of 90,000 credits. Contract complete--that was simple. “Hey Slips,” you ask, getting her attention again.

“Yeah?”

“Do you know where I could find a Lieutenant Jenny Larue?”

“Lieutenant Jenny?” She taps her chin a few times. “Oh! You probably wanna go to floor K. That's where all the Federation offices would be.”

“Thanks, Slips. It's nice to meet you.”

“Nice to meet you too, Gavin. Hmm...” she trails off, looking back to her datapad. “Tell ya what. Since you were so nice to deliver my stuff--and you're polite--I'll give you an extra 20,000 credits towards your next purchase on any weapons or ship parts in the station.”

You blink, taken aback. “Huh. Thank you, that would be much appreciated, actually.”

“No problem, friend! If ya need anything, feel free to gimme a call, right?”

Should wait until we get more information from Lt. Larue. Autocannons are probably a good buy if we're fighting bombers or other frigates. Support it with Machine Guns for Point-Defense work, but I've always been a dakka kind of guy.
>>
>>40017605
You turn to your companions. “Alright, let's go to floor K. Maybe it's best we find out what exactly we're up against, then you guys can give me some suggestions.”

“Sounds like a good plan, Gavin,” Viktor says, nodding. Ley'ra nods as well.

It doesn't take you long to navigate back to the elevator, but it takes a small wait in front of a line to get to use it. Upon entering the elevator, you press the button to take you to floor K.

“It's not as crowded as I remember,” Viktor says.

“Oh?” Ley'ra asks.

“Last time I was here, you could hardly move a foot without bumping into someone else.”

“Huh.” Ley'ra shuffles in her spot. “I think I kinda like it like this. Not too crowded, but enough people for a... market-y feel.”

“Market-y feel?”

“Um... yeah.”

The doors open to reveal to you a short and wide hallway. A simple set of double doors faces you from the opposite end, flanked by two armed guards wearing pretty expensive looking armour. Next to them is a small closed door. You step out of the elevator and approach them.

“Please disarm yourselves. We will keep your weapons locked up until you leave,” one of the guards says.

>Disarm yourselves. It's just procedure.

You give a nod to your companions and hand over your assault rifle to the guard. The other guard opens the small door beside the double doors, revealing a small room with shelves of weapons. The first guard goes inside and puts your rifle on one of the shelves.

You un-holster your revolver and hand it over as well. Ley'ra seems reluctant, but she hands over her rifle and pistol with a neutral expression. Viktor does the same, except you can't see his face. The guards give him a weird look but don't prod further.

“Thank you. You may now proceed,” one of the guards say before both of them step back to flank the doors. Shrugging, you push your way through the doors and enter a long hallway.

“Do you know what room we're going to?” Viktor asks, walking beside you with Ley'ra.

“Room 107. Ehh... that sign says 100-140, let's go down there.”

The hallway twists and turns, and you found yourself at a dead end twice. Sometimes you wonder if the Federation is really as orderly as they put themselves out to be. When you finally get to the door labeled 107, you see another two armed guards flanking it.

“State your business,” one of them asks as you stand in front of them.

”We're here to see Lieutenant Jenny Larue for the contract she put out.”

The guard turns his head towards you. “Huh. Alright, you can go in.”

Upon entering, you're surprised to find a rather spacey room. You were expecting an office of some sort, but this looks more like a meeting room. A large square table sits in the middle with a holographic grid displayed on top of its surface, and on top of that is what looks to be a white planet. A moon.

Standing in front of the table is a woman wearing a (rather tight!) getup with utility belts. A matching helmet rests on a table off to the side. As you enter, she looks away from the hologram of the moon and towards you.

“Who are you?” she asks plainly.
>>
>>40018163
Thats how it goes man, don't matter how easy it is if other people cant do it you can charge whatever you want.
>>
>>40018191
“I'm Captain Gavin Ashworth. This is my crew,” you gesture to your companions. They both give a small wave. “We're here in regards to the contract you gave out.”

“Ah! You're the one who accepted, then,” she says, walking around the table towards you.

“...Um, yes. Are there any others?”

“Nope. You're the only one.”

“Huh.”

“Hah, don't worry. I've seen the schematics of your ship already--quite impressive, if I do say so myself.”

You quirk an eyebrow. “Oh... yeah?”

“No really, it's perfect. Just what we need.”

Viktor steps forward. “Am I to assume that you are Lieutenant Jenny Larue?” he asks, holding his hands behind his back.

“That would be me,” she answers, resting a hand on her hip. “You are Viktor, right?”

“I am,” he bows. “Now, what we would like to know is what exactly we're up against, or what it is you expect of us.”

“Oh, I assure you, it shouldn't be too serious. I believe there is only one or two corvettes currently docked on the Harbinger bandit station. There's usually no more than that at all times.”

That makes your heart skip a beat. “Wait, Harbinger?”

Jenny looks at you. “Yeah. What of it?”

“Ah.. it's nothing. It just kinda sounds cliché for a name,” you answer, recovering yourself. Don't want to bring that up just yet...

“Hmm, alright then,” she says, shrugging.

Viktor and Ley'ra give you a look, but you give them a dismissive gesture.

“They're bandit made. Shoddily put together,” the Lieutenant says, turning to walk back to the hologram table. “Us in the Federation like to call them duct-tape ships--they shatter pretty easily, especially with artillery fire.”

At that, Viktor gives you a glance and nod. The Lieutenant presses a few buttons at the foot of the table and the hologram moon disappears, the view focusing on a small station beside it. Highlighted in red, the station looks only large enough to accommodate two destroyers at once. A simple refueling station.

Voices outside the door alert you to a new presence, and the door opens to let a blonde woman in.

“Yeah, tough luck, kid,” the woman says to someone out the door, closing it on their face. “Damn Blackhawks... oh.” She comes to a stop, seeing the three of you standing in front of her.

“Captain Tera, we have visitors,” Jenny says from the other side of the table. “These are the guys who accepted the contract.”

“Huh.” The woman looks at you. “Uh, hi. I'm Captain Tera.”

You smile, moving forward to shake her hand. “Name's Captain Gavin Ashworth. Nice to meet you, ma'am.”

She turns to Jenny. “He's cute, really.” You quirk an eyebrow, and Viktor gives you a shrug. You see Ley'ra pointedly blink, but she keeps a neutral expression.

“Oh, come on, don't tease him. He looks like a good guy,” Jenny responds. “I was just filling them in on the situation.”

“Ah,” Tera says, walking over to the table to look at the hologram structure. She turns back to you. “So, we normally don't send out calls like this, but you can imagine that we're a little short on hands here.”
>>
>>40018633
“And,” Jenny edges in, “whenever we try to confront these fuckers, they get away. They've got good engines on their defence ships.”

“Yup. We tried getting Blackhawks and other mercs to take care of them, but it's the same thing. So, now we're trying....” Tera pauses and squints an eyebrow. “Ehm, nobodies.”

“I take offense to that,” you deadpan.

“She's joking,” Jenny says. “Just... don't mind her. You'll get used to her.”

“I think I like her already,” you joke, earning a laugh from Tera.

“Hah, buy me a drink first.”

“Okay, so,” Jenny cuts in, not wanting to encourage her superior. “As I've said before, an artillery cannon should suffice... but your ship doesn't have anything equivalent,” she says looking to you.

“Ah, which is why we came to see you first,” Viktor says. “We wanted to see what you had in mind, and then we would go browse for ship parts.”

“Eh, no need. Give them one of ours,” Tera says, throwing a hand dismissively.

“Give them what? A cannon?” Jenny asks, picking up a nearby datapad.

“Yeah. That.”

“Are you drunk again?”

“No.”

“Ugh... okay, so,” Jenny says, looking back to you. “I'm gonna send the artillery cannon to your hangar. It's yours to keep--”

“Courtesy of moi,” Tera cuts in, throwing a look to Ley'ra.

“--And then you can fit it to your ship,” Jenny finishes.

“Wow, thank you guys,” you say, gratefully. “We were gonna go buy it ourselves, but this makes things a lot easier.”

“Like I said, no problem, kid,” Tera says, still looking at Ley'ra. “Who are you?”

You look to Ley'ra and give her an encouraging nod, which she steadily returns. She looks to Tera.

“My name's Ley'ra. Gavin hired me as a merc for his ship crew.”

“Ley'ra, huh?” Tera says, smirking. “Pretty name... is it Luos?”

Her words pierce the air, but you don't see Ley'ra faulter. “It is,” she answers, simply. Tera's eyes widen, but her smile doesn't leave.

“Ah... I heard what happened. I know you must hate my guts, but I had nothing to do with that event,” Tera says, her voice calm. “I've been stuck here in Freeport taking care of rebels and bandits.”

“I... thank you, Captain Tera,” Ley'ra says with a bow. “I don't hate your guts.”

“Interesting. What section were you in?”

“I was in the Cerberus Legion,” Ley'ra answers, stoicly.

“Wow, I've heard a lot about you guys--always one of the more likable companies. From what I've heard, the Federation's given you amnesty.”

“Oh...” This time, you see Ley'ra's posture faulter, but you think it's from relief. Viktor gives her a little pat on the shoulder and Ley'ra returns a little smile. Tera turns to you.

“She's cute.”

“Yeah, well...” you roll your eyes.

“Ahem,” Jenny clears her throat, catching all of your attention but not before giving Ley'ra a little nod. Tera shakes her head.

“So, the idea is that you will go in and engage their defences. We've got two frigates and a destroyer on standby, but you should be able to take them on yourselves,” Tera says, leaning against the table. “I'll be in the destroyer. We'll warp in if there's escalation, but I doubt that would happen.”

“Huh, I guess that sounds pretty simple,” you remark, tilting your head at the hologram structure. “What about the fueling station? Should we take care of that ourselves?”
>>
>>40018633

What happened to "All about business"?
>>
>>40018993
“No, actually,” Tera answers, standing up and looking back to the hologram. “Once you get their defences down, you can consider your end of the bargain complete. We're going to go in and rescue VIPs and then take over the station. Jenny here will board it herself with a team of operators.”

You give your companions a nod.

“So, is that all, Gavin?” Tera asks, leaning against the table.

“So, you're gonna board the fueling station. Do you suppose there's anything we could do to help?” you ask. Can't hurt to see if they need anything else.

“Mm, I think Jenny can handle the inside with her team effectively enough,” Tera answers, looking to her subordinate. “Unless you think you can best a team of Fed spec ops.”

“Er, no. Just wondering if there's anything that could be done on our end.”

“Hmm... why don't you just stick around in your ship while we infiltrate it?” Jenny answers. “Never know if we'll need extra firepower in case they bring more ships to the party.”

You look over to your crew, and they both give you nods. “Sounds good, I guess we can stick around for sentry work.”

“It's settled, then. Is that all, Gavin?” Tera says with a nod.

“I owe you a drink,” you say. Tera looks taken aback, and blinks twice. “You did just give us a free artillery cannon.”

“Ah, why not. If all goes well, let's get hammered.”

“I think I like the sound of that,” you say. Viktor gives you an approving nod.

“When liquor is involved, us mercs are all for it.”

Ley'ra gives you a shrug. “Okay.”

“Thanks, Tera and Jenny. I think that's all we need,” you say, turning to your companions. “Let's get back to the market level, yeah?”

“Sounds good,” Viktor says while Ley'ra nods.

You leave the room and make your way back to the elevators (after getting lost twice, again). There, you reclaim all of your weapons from the guards and signal the elevator.

Once back down to the market floor, you find an unoccupied open space and browse through your smart-ring for the ship parts section. Ley'ra and Viktor stand next to you.

“It is no problem. When we are in combat, I may need an extra hand for the auto-cannon while I control the artillery--do you think you can man it?”

“I've done some ship gunning. I can try.”

“Good! I will need you for point defence. I will take care of the big guys.

“Right. All of the stuff should be forwarded to your hangar now.”

“The station engineers should have it on our ship quickly, they work pretty efficiently from what I heard,” Viktor adds in. “Also, Gavin, I would like it if we could add the artillery cannon we received from Captain Tera to our spinal mount. It would help stabilize it and we can fire better ordnance.”

“Sure thing, Viktor,” you say to him with a smile. With a few clicks on your smart ring's hologram keyboard, you message the engineers at your hangar to mount the artillery cannon on the spinal mount. “The gunner knows best.”

“Thank you, Gavin. By the way, I hope you don't mind but I purchased 2 tons of ship weapon ammunition. We will need it for the coming fight, and we should have extra,” Viktor says.

“Oh, and I bought a bulletproof vest for Troy and myself, since we don't have any protection. I... left all my gear back home,” Ley'ra adds in.

“Huh. Thank you guys for taking the initiative, actually. That means less money on me.”

“Don't worry about it, Captain. We're here to help,” Ley'ra says and Viktor nods in agreement.

We can upgrade our mess hall with a tavern.
We can upgrade our lunge with a recreational room.
I have to wonder how is this gonna do with space in the ship.
Speaking of which we have two rooms which i believe one should be a holding cell while the other should be an engineering bay/vehicle bay/hangar bay, since i think putting those bay's in the cargo space will remove space in it.

“Okay, let's head back to the ship. All the stuff should be being fitted to our ship now,” you say to your companions who both give you a stout nod.

When you get to the elevators, you're surprised to find that there's no line this time. After a quick trip back to your hangar, you emerge from the elevator doors to see the artillery cannon being hoisted up by a crane to the top of your ship.

You approach your ship to find Troy at the base of the entrance ramp, looking up at what's happening.

“Hey, Gavin. Seems you guys got busy, that cannon must'a been expensive,” he says, not taking his eyes off of it as it gets settled down onto your ship.

“Actually, we got it for free. We're going for drinks with a Fed captain afterwards,” you say, standing beside him. Ley'ra stands next to you and Viktor enters the ship interior.

“Are we? Sounds fine to me,” Troy responds. “Should take another 10 minutes. These guys work quick.”

“I'm gonna go see if Ivan's back,” you tell Troy and Ley'ra. They both nod as you walk up the ramp. Once in the ship interior, you note how the sound of drilling above is somewhat muted, the Beatrice ship walls doing a decent job with muting noises. However, a different noise catches your attention; as you near the mess hall, you hear a lot of clinking of glasses.

When you enter the mess hall, you see four boxes of... stuff on the large, circular table in the middle of the room. At the other side of the table is Ivan, holding several bottles of liquor.

“Comrade! Look at what I have bought,” Ivan says, carefully putting the bottles down on the counter next to him. Looking around, you see that at least two open cupboards stuffed with bottles.

“...Very interesting, Ivan. I don't think we'll ever run out of alcohol now,” you say with a smirk.

“I got a variety. There is vodka, some whiskey, tequila...”

You step into the room and open the cupboard next to you, only to see it stuffed with more liquor. “Geeze, how much did you buy?”

“...A lot,” he answers while hugging a few bottles. “I think I will put these in the cargo bay.”

“I think that's a good idea.” Suddenly, the drilling noise stops. “Hm, maybe they finished fitting our weapons.”

“Maybe. I will get this done first and then wait in the cockpit.”

You give Ivan a nod and then walk towards the air lock of your ship, but not before passing by the lounge. There, you find Bethany and Comet sitting on the love seat. Call yourself crazy but you think there's now twice the amount of blankets wrapped around Comet.

“So, what's new?” you ask, sitting down on the couch opposite of them.

“Hi Gavin,” Bethany greets, Comet shooting you a smile and nod. “Not much. I suspect everything's in order?”
>>
>>40020710
“Yup. We're going to be doing our mission very soon,” you tell them, then you lean forward. “We're going to be heading into combat. I don't think we'll be... that much threatened, but I just wanted to let you two know what we're going into.”

Bethany gives you a stern nod, and Comet gives you a curious look. “What will you need us to do?” Bethany asks.

“Okay, Beth. I want you to keep with Comet and to stay in the infirmary. Get ready to treat any injuries--I don't think it'll ever come to that, but it can't hurt to be prepared.”

“Okay,” Bethany says, notably ignoring your nickname for her. “What are we up against, anyways?”

“Bandits. According to our intel, it will be just a few ships. Smaller than our own, badly built.” You make sure to look at Comet as you explain this; she seems to accept what you're saying. “Will you be alright, Comet?”

“I think so,” she says, her voice low.

“Just stay with Beth. She's a doctor.”

“Okay,” she says, nodding her head.

Bethany rolls her eyes.

Standing up, you leave the room to walk towards the exit of the ship. However, you're met with Viktor, Troy, and Ley'ra halfway.

“Gavin, I suppose you want to get going?” Viktor asks, the three of them stopping before you.

“Yeah. I told Bethany to keep Comet with her in the infirmary. I want you and Ley'ra in the gun deck,” you say, looking at the two of them. You turn to Troy. “I want you in the engine room. We have to keep our comms tight, only speak when necessary. That goes for all of you.”

They all nod their heads at you before you all part ways. You head straight for the cockpit where you see Ivan already in his seat.

“All the alcohol in the cargo?” you ask, sitting down on the other seat.

“Most of it. I keep some in the mess,” he responds. “Engineers have finished putting new weapons on our ship. Shall we leave now?”

“Let's go. You've got the coordinates for the Harbinger station, right?” you ask him.

“I do have coordinates. I have all the details of contract with me.” With that, he moves to press a few buttons and flick a few switches. “Troy has fired up the engines already.”

“That he did. Everybody's at their post,” you affirm.

“Alright comrade, let's get this show on the road,” he chuckles. Gripping the stick, he lifts the ship off from the hangar floor. You watch as he turns it around and navigates the ship through the wide tunnels of the station's large hangar level. Many different kinds of ships fly to and fro, most of them about the size of yours or smaller.

Finally you enter the air lock, where you wait with two other small ships. After another few button presses, the outer door of the ship station opens, letting you out into the void of space. There, the thousands of stars wink back at you, backed by a beautiful violet nebula that seems to stretch on forever.

Ivan flies the ship away from the station for several minutes before rotating the ship towards a certain direction.

“Coordinates on Harbinger Station locked on. How far away should we warp in?” he asks you.

>5 kilometers. Get in and hit them hard without warning.
>10 kilometers. A good distance, giving you time to aim your main cannon properly.
>20 kilometers. Far enough from the station to be out of range of weapons, and to draw the bandits out of the station.

“Let's warp in 10 kilometers out. That'll give us enough time to aim our cannon and probably take one out before they have any time to react,” you say.

“Alright, Gavin. I am setting warp now--wait, we have incoming call.”

You look up to the screen above you to see an incoming call from one Captain Tera. Shrugging to yourself, you accept the call.

“Hello, Captain Gavin Ashworth,” she says, her face popping up on the screen. Behind her, you see her on a control deck of some sort, Federation officials walking to and fro.

"Good evening, beautiful. What's new?"
>>
>>40021300
She gives you a nod; you notice how her posture's much straighter than before and her voice more stern. “I trust you're getting into position as we speak?”

“We were about to warp, actually. I trust you guys are in position as well?”

“We are. We're keeping our unassuming formation out here, but we've got coordinates locked. We already have a stealthed corvette there observing-if things go sour, he'll let us know. We'll be in shortly after.”

“Oh. So, once we get in, are we free to shoot anything?”

“Ah, about that... don't fire unless fired upon,” she says before smirking. “Though with these guys, I imagine they're not going to be so friendly. With such a shiny ship, they'll go straight for you.”

“You flatter me, Tera.”

“Yeah, yeah...” With that, the screen blinks out and returns to displaying your ship's subsystem status. You turn to Ivan.

“Let's warp,” you tell him.

“As you wish, Gavin!” he laughs, pulling a lever beside him. As your ship begins to pick up speed, you pull the mic to your mouth.

“Alright, we're warping. Get ready everyone, we're about to engage out first fight,” you say.

Finally, the ship enters FTL speeds. Your field of vision first expands as though you're stepping backwards, but then you begin to feel space funneling past you. Amazingly, you don't feel any force against you.
>>
>>40021591
The warp is short, as you soon find your ship decelerating. In the distance, you see a small speck of a small fueling station appear, quickly growing into something larger. The station almost looks like it's going to crash into you at the speed you're approaching it, but your ship decelerates almost instantaneously, stopping you in your specified distance.

The station looks to be a mish-mash of metal parts, strung together hastily as though its creators had continuously looked over their backs while building it. You see two ships smaller than your own currently docked on the outside, thankfully far enough from what looks to be most of the structure.

“I do,” he responds. After he says that, you see a small red reticle appear on the cockpit's window, hovering above one of the ships. A second reticle pops up and hovers above the other. Your ship's targets have been realized.

“Alright. Don't fire until I tell you to, we're going to see what these guys do first.”

Ivan's voice catches your attention. “Gavin, one of the ships are moving.”

Sure enough, one of the red reticles begins to move as the ship unlatches itself from the station. It begins to approach you.

“I'm activating the ship scanner,” you say, pulling a lever on your side. You make sure to specify it to aim for the first target your ship has detected. After waiting a few seconds, you begin to see results listing on the screen above you.

>2 auto cannons
>Basic shielding

“Alright, I'm gonna open comms now.” You flick a button to your side and select to broadcast on all local channels. Ivan looks at you while your broadcast goes live. You almost take in a breath, but you decide to speak quickly. “Stay right where you are. Approach no further.” you say sternly, turning off the broadcast.

You wait a few seconds, but the ship is still approaching you slowly. It's now 8 kilometers away.

“Alright, you can start manoeuvering,” you say. “This isn't right. Ivan, what would you do?”

“It is the waiting game. They are testing us,” he says, his eyes forward. You can feel the tension in the air as Ivan grabs the stick, accelerating the ship slightly to being circling the approaching ships.

You decide to open your comms to reassure your crew... but you're met with something different, as music begins to play across your ship's speakers.

https://youtu.be/YGRO05WcNDk

“Wait... wait! What the fuck?” you say to yourself, loud enough to hear over the music.

“Hahahah! They have a scrambler,” Ivan laughs. “I like this.”

Ominously, the bandit ships begin to pick up speed in relation to yours, and Ivan starts to manouvre the ship a little more erratically, keeping a good angle away from them. He manages to maintain a good 7-8km of distance.

“Can we consider this as being shot at?!” you yell, but you hear a voice over the music.

“Captain! If we don't take down the ship with the radio dish now, they'll just keep this up!” Viktor's voice says.

Things are taking a strange turn. How will you deal with this?

You grab your mic. “Hey, bitches! You have good taste in music!” you yell, not caring if your broadcast was heard by your crew. No response is heard, though.

However, the music changes.

https://youtu.be/-ecNe7eS-F8

“Viktor, fire a warning shot!” you yell as Ivan begins to bob his head to the song. However, before Viktor shoots his first shot, your screen begins to flash as you detect your ship shield taking hits. The bandits are firing at you.

“They're shooting at us, Gavin!” Ivan says, still bobbing his head.

You wait a second, anticipating what's to come... and then your ship shakes. A muted boom is sounded, and you feel it rattle your very seat, slightly. On another screen for your rear, you see that the warning shot missed... as you intended. You don't know what to make of it.

Also you should make us roll for stuff after a choice is decided. The reason is because votes with good rolls will always win, unless you make it a system where we need to always roll(all choices are rolls).

”Fuck it, Viktor! Ley'ra! Open fire!” you yell into the mic above the music.

“I thought you would never ask, Captain!” Viktor responds through the speakers.

Almost immediately afterwards, you feel your ship rock as another shot is let loose from your main cannon. Then you hear a small burst from both of your autocannons.

Looking back to your target screen, you wait for some results.... and see the first ship suddenly take hits to its shields. The artillery shell smashes through the shield and blasts an entire side of the corvette apart.

“Good shot, Viktor!” Ivan says.

Following the hit, a string of high-calibre auto-fire shreds the rest of the unprotected ship apart.

“Damn, you're right Viktor. These ships shred easily,” you say through the mic. However, the music hasn't stopped.

https://youtu.be/v4K1VxNg9Bc?t=1m20s

“Gavin, I think the other ship is of the same make. It probably has a dish, too,” Ivan says. Before you can give an order, you see three more red reticles pop up on the target screen.

“Shit, what's that?” you ask.

“It looks like three more corvettes, similar to the ones we're with.

The problem is that people can change to a vote that requires no rolls after seeing that a different vote will probably fail. For example this vote. Say 3 people at the start voted open fire but all rolled shit. The people after them could then decide to call for support, so we would never open fire and would therefore not fail.

“Viktor and Ley'ra, open fire on the second ship!” you yell. “Viktor, let's leave them in the dust. Use our superior range to pick them off!”

The bandit ships begin to accelerate quickly, catching up to yours.

“Hahah! This song is a favourite of mine, comrade! Troy, see if you can put as much into the engines as you can,” Ivan says through his mic. “I will need all the thrust I can get!”

As he says this, another two shots are heard from the artillery cannon, and you hear the auto-cannons going wild. On the target screen, another red reticle goes dark as the second ship gets blown to bits.

“I like this!” Ivan yells as the music continues. “We should get a scrambler!”

“Hell yeah we should!”

-----------------
3: Ship Abilities
-----------------
>ACTIVE: Bulwark
Your ship slows to half its velocity but deploys a one-sided force field that blocks all but the strongest incoming damage from a certain direction for 20 seconds.

>ACTIVE: Tractor Beam
A universal tractor beam that harnesses light to attract or push matter not limited to ore or scrap. It's useful for retrieving free-floating objects, or that one maintenance crew member who accidentally cut his safety wire.

>ACTIVE: Composition Scanner

This complex module can scan objects and bring back very precise results. It can detect ore/mineral compositions in asteroids, energy sources, electrical activity, and even life forms. It can also scan other ships to give you intel on their systems.
>PASSIVE: Teleport Jammer
You may have powerful shields and armour, but those won't prevent teleporting boarding parties. This generator can be controlled to prevent that.

>PASSIVE: Hypercomms
Hypercommunications tech is hard to come by, but it is able to send communications across entire star systems almost instantly.

“Shots are coming and going, Captain!” Viktor yells back. “Hahah, I think even Ley'ra's dancing in her seat!” You hear a whine from the background of his mic. However, as you observe your target screen, all of the shots miss. “Sorry, Captain! The music is good, but is distracting!”

“No worries, comrade!” Ivan responds.

Just then, you see your shields take a little more damage. Thankfully, since you upgraded them, the damage is almost negligable... until you get hit hard by what you assume was an artillery shell.

“Shit, I think they've got heavy ordnance!” you yell.

“Aye!” Viktor responds.

“How are we doing with manoeuvring, Ivan?”

“We are doing good. I am now trying to avoid getting hit by artillery shells,” he says, his eyes focused forward while he steadily steers the ship.

Your ship rocks as a series of three shots are fired in succession, and several long bursts from the autocannons accompany it. On your target screen, another ship goes dark. Two left.

“Activating the composition scanner,” you mutter to yourself, pressing the lever.

“Fire at the furthest ship, Viktor!” you yell, but suddenly find that the music is a lot quieter.

“Hah! I am happy, I am happy!”Ivan sings, bobbing his head again. “Can we get a radio too, Gavin?”

“Why the hell not. By the way, I'm activating Bulwark.”

“Okay.”

You open the glass compartment for the Bulwark lever and pull it. The entire side of your ship is then engulfed by a bright blue light as the shield deploys. Soon after, a large explosion smashes against it.

“Woo!” Ivan woos. “Good call, Gavin.”

“This. This is fun.”

“This is also why I fly, comrade!”

Another series of three shots are heard from your ship weapons, and your target screen shows ship 2 blink out... with ship 1 blinking out soon after.

“Hah! I sneezed on the third shot and hit the other one!” Viktor gloats through the radio. To your dismay, the music fizzes out. For a moment, the cockpit sits in silence as Ivan continues to fly the ship.

“Ah... is that all?” you say almost to yourself. You look to your target screen to find nothing there.

“I think we got them all,” Ivan comments.

“Huh. Alright then,” you say, shaking your head. You realize now that you were having a slight adrenaline rush. “Circle us around to the station, we're supposed to do sentry work, right?”

“Right.”

However, a blue signature pops up on your target screen.

“Hey there, Gavin. I see you had a hell of a blast,” Lieutenant Jenny's face says after popping up on your screen. She seems to be inside of a fairly cramped ship.

“Lietuenant! I suppose you're going to go into the fueling station now?”
>>

“Actually, we got the VIPs while you were out dancing there,” she says with a smirk. “For a moment, we thought about getting Tera to come save you, but you looked like you had it in the bag.”

You look over to Ivan and bump a fist with him. “Hell yeah we did.”

“I have not had that much fun for awhile!” he says.

Ivan's approval: +1

“Right. Meet you back at the station, we gotta jet this place and let the... cleaners take over.” Her screen goes blank, and you shoot Ivan a look.

“Cleaners?” you ask.

“They are probably going to secure the station for themselves. Procedures and all, you know how Federation is.”

“Hmm... we've got a tractor beam, yeah?” you ask Ivan. He looks off to one of the side panels.

“Ah, yes we do. Why do you ask?”

“Let's see if there's one of those scrambler dishes still in tact, yeah?”

“Hahah, I like how you think!” he says, steering the ship towards one of the ship wrecks.

“After that, we'll go back to the station.” You let out a sigh and squirm in your seat to get comfortable before speaking into your mic. “How is everyone doing?”

A collection of responses reach you at the same time.

“Good.”

“That was interesting.”

“We're fine.”

You nod your head. “Good! We're just going to try to get one of those scrambler dishes...” You're interrupted by a laugh from who you think is Bethany. “And then we'll head back to the station.”

From the cockpit window, you see Ivan approaching one of the wrecks already. Incomprehensible pieces of metal are everywhere, but you don't really make much out of it... until a circular shine catches your attention.

“There! Ivan, let's grab it!” you exclaim.

With a quick flick of a lever, you see your tractor beam activate and a dim blue light engulfs the scramlber dish. It takes it out of view, but you hear it enter the back of your ship through you assume the cargo receiving bay.

“Time to go?” Ivan asks.

“Yeah, let's.”

With a little steering, Ivan points the ship towards the presumed location of Freeport Station and initiates warp.

“Alright, for those of you who want to, let's hit the tavern,” you say into the ship mic. Ivan stands up and gives you a pat on the shoulder.

“You did good, comrade. Consider the drinks tonight on me! Heheh,” he says. You give him a smile and walk out of the cockpit.

“Thank you, Ivan. Your piloting kept us alive.”

The two of you walk over to the air lock to find it already open. Troy and Bethany are standing there, already waiting.

“Hey, you two coming?” you ask.

“I'll stay, someone's gotta watch Comet,” Troy says.

“I'll come. I need to get out of the ship,” Bethany answers.

Footsteps from behind alert you to Viktor and Ley'ra.

“Ah, are you two coming as well?” Ivan asks.

“You think I would miss out on a drink, friend?” Viktor answers. You look to Ley'ra, and she merely gives you a little smile and shrug.

“Damn good job, all of you,” you say, your crew all smiling at you. “Not only did we take on five ships, but we had fun doing it.”

“Woo!” Ivan cheers, and your whole crew joins in.

The ride up the elevators was pretty crowded, considering you had to fit the five of you in the elevator. It took a little bit of searching, but you found a tavern on floor J.

It was a fairly small tavern, and while the whole place was made out of metal, you think you enjoyed the dimly lit, cozy atmosphere. There, a circular table awaited you...

After a small order from Ivan, the waiter brings over a bottle of rum and five shot glasses (you ask for a sixth). However, you see Tera enter the tavern, and you wave her down.

“Well, well, is this the hero crew?” she asks, coming to sit between Viktor and Bethany.

“The one and only,” you proudly state. “Dont' you have... Federation stuff to do?”

“Hey, that outpost was the only thing I had to worry about for awhile. I think I can unwind for now,” she says while Ivan pours all six of you a shot.

“And there is never a better reason to drink, than to unwind!” Ivan says, raising his shot glass. Everyone in the table follows suit.

“What are we toasting to?” Bethany asks. Everyone looks at each other with a blank expression.

“Who cares!” Ivan says, throwing his glass up anyways. Everyone cheers as you clunk your glasses together, including you. After taking the gulp, you almost sputter as the amber liquid burns down your throat.

You look over to Ivan; that's when he grips the bottom of his mask--your hear skips a beat. However, you fall to disappointment when he only lifts the mask enough to gulp down the shot. Viktor does the same. Damned masked guys...

You groan again as you try to shake your head, your vision slowly un-blurring. That's when you finally see that the fuzzy thing your hand is on is a cat. How the hell a cat get in here?

Troy takes another bite of his cereal. You can't quite make it out, but you see a big blue blur on the floor at the other side of the mess hall. And you think you hear someone vomiting into a toilet somewhere in the ship. You hope it's a toilet.

“Uhm... weird news?” you ask, content with lying down on the table.

“Ah. Well,” he says, swallowing his cereal again. “You managed to piggy-back ride Ivan around the station. Thankfully you didn't really get into much trouble... kind of. I found you two arguing with a Blackhawk merc about stemcell-grown meat flavours. Also, you were trying to pull off Ivan's mask.”

“Huh.”

“Bethany... as you can see,” he says, gesturing to the blue blur on the floor. When your eyes manage to focus enough to see it, you see Bethany snoozing on a veritable pile of unopened boxes of condoms. “I found Viktor trying to stealthily hide-while-stalking a Blackhawk merc girl on the market level. Apparently, you suggested it to him.”

“Nuh.”

“Well, you and Tera suggested it to him. She thought it was funny.”

“How's... nn... Comet?”

“She's fine, actually. Want to hear the good news?”

“Nup.”

“Well anyways, you're still a free man.”

“Wha...?”

“You almost got married to Ley'ra.”

Your heart skips a beat and your head shoots up.

“W-wait, what!”

And that brings thread 3 to a close. I'm sorry the ending is kind of rushed, but as you can see, the thread's almost kill.

I had fun this time. I hope you all did too. See you next week!

Also, I forgot the image for the personal defense drones, as referred to here >>40024381
>>
>>40024680

You almost got married to Ley'ra.”

Your heart skips a beat and your head shoots up.

“W-wait, what!”

So so close
>>
>>40024956
Then I suppose we'll pick up on calling people honey or dear, just to sow confusion and embarassment.

>>40024989
I wonder if those are the expired ones or if she went on a drunken shopping spree.
>>
>>40025045
im hoping drunken spree
>>
>>40025045
Ley'ra would probably die a little every time

I find drunken shopping spree more amusing somehow.

Also since we planning on music scrambler, should we give a list of music we would like played to the qm so he can pick and choose at his desecration?
>>
>>40025295
I'll let you guys choose the music.
>>
>>40025434
Figured you would like it if we just gave you a list of songs and you would just pick and choose to fit the situation, but cool.

>>40025434
Blue swede hooked on a feeling
