After the explanation of what the hunt truly is, what our objectives required and what rules we had to follow we were guided by a group of servoskulls that appeared from hidden hatches, each of those skulls carried a small scroll with it that indicated what course did it belong to. Soon what once was a disorganized mass of guardsmen, psykers and skitarii became four groups led by a dozen of guides each.

As you were following yours into the Kroot anatomy and psychology area you started to mentally write a memo for the rest of you warriors informing them that you wouldn’t fight along with them, but with the private hunters, you even wished them luck but still some warriors complained, those complains didn’t lasted long thought, some of your warriors that enjoyed you as their leader used their administratorii powers to delete those messages, censor or alter them and even ban some users from speaking. This last action was a lot harsher to a techpriests than to a regular human. If a regular Imperial was banned from speaking in some website it would just shrug it off and with the exception of having a tantrum it wouldn’t affect him much (Unless the reason of his ban was the spread of heretical thoughts, then he would be banned from living too); if a techpriests became banned from speaking it could also be extended to its vox-caster and other non-natural means of communication, rendering the banned techpriests completely rid of lingual expression.

The classroom you got in was one of the fullest, most people decanted for this course or the one that taught survival techniques. Looking around you saw a tide of colors with few variations, the guardsmen wore an ash grey coat covered with a blueberry flak or ceramite armor and white details on the borders or the crest of their helmets, the Penals wore a more parched and jury rigged looking armor, their clothing was mostly dirt brown with reddish highlights, the few metallic details or pieces that they had were had a shiny silvery color on them and were pretty noteworthy for their beauty and care compared with the rest poor looking equipment that they had, your Skitarius of course proudly donned their red and gold robes and their bionics were a mix of several metallic looking colors, mostly gold and gray but there were also greenish or copper looking pieces and even a rainbow like reflecting metal surfaces, the last and smaller group was of the private Hunters, among them there were two main sub-groups, the Hunters and their bodyguards; the hunters looked really pompous and were covered in strangely shaped and expensive looking clothing and accessories, the bodyguards seemed to be battle and war experienced people, they had terrible scars on them and most seemed to have tribal or hiver origins, they mostly wore black flak armors to be easy to identify.

When everybody was in we were shown several different bodies of deceased Kroot, the room smelled like rotten meat and stomach acids, it seems that they were killed decades ago and were frozen for study, being only taken away from their freezers a couple of times each year for this class. The repetition of frosting and defrosting in semi-regular periods of time had made the body look rotten yet fresh, its skin was dried of any content of water yet there was a thin coat of frost on it. There were many other details on that body that looked wrong because how strange and half mummified it was.
>>
>>40152858
There was no teacher, once again we were taught with a video, the recording date of the video marked that it was done more than thirty years ago, on it the same body that we were looking at now was being shown, it looked recently killed thought. A war medic with a white robe and covered in alien blood spoke to the camera.

“The Kroot are a species of barbaric hunters that have the ability to gain qualities from the enemies they feed upon. Like humans they have diverted into many stable and not so stable mutations across the time yet instead of millennia they only require a generation or two to change. This has led to an incredible variation among their species as a whole; there are not two Kroot alike, not even between the members of the same tribe, or kindred. They all share some characteristics marks that will help with their identification and posterior elimination.”

The image changed to the picture of a decapitated Kroot head with parts of its skull and head removed, revealing the brain inside.

“As many Xenologist from the Mechanicus believe, the Kroot are descendants of an avian race, this is backed by the fact that they have beaks, that while looking serrated and mouth like aren’t truly jaws. There are also some long spines that protrude from the back of their heads and sometimes forearms and backs, those seem to be a remnant of what once might have been feathers. Finally if a Kroot feeds himself of the sufficient avian DNA it might reactivate some dormant chromosomes on its genome and have the next generation is spawned with wings on their back. This first generation will not be able to fly at all, the second one might be able to glide… from the fourth generation forth the Kroot will have mastered flight. In case your regiment is directed to an attrition war against this race you have to try to burn all the fallen comrades and hunt any kind of animal that could be beneficial for their evolutionary tactics.”
>>
>>40152877
There was a quick shoot of the moon of Heptium from orbit; it was a really deceitful image as from up there it looked so peaceful and nice.

“The Kroot living on this moon have formed into three basic subgroups, or tribes, and a fourth one formed by the many smaller groups that is way too varied to classify.”

The video then showed a thin and gaunt Kroot with lithe features and a couple of feathery and bullet filled holes on his back, his two legs were completely broken.

“The Sweeping Claws are a tribe that populates the mountains and mostly feeds from raptor birds that live on the planet. They are lithe and physically the weakest but have wings that they can use to fly. Their hands and feet are ended in claws and talons. They use armors made from natural resources, specially a wood that strengthens and becomes as hard as iron when covered in a special mix of blood and mud and is then sundried. They mostly attack at daytime, during night they return to their nests in the peaks of mountains.”

A hunched and muscular Kroot appeared next, its beak seemed to be able to eat through armor and its arms looked strong enough to kill a man with a single punch. His body was covered in heavy arms fire holes. You doubted that anything but heavy weapons teams would be able to surpass its thick skin.

“Rockborns are a tribe of strong and somewhat simple minded Kroot with hunched and gorilla-esque bodies that live underground and excavate with their powerful claws. The cave networks are their territory and thus killing them in this place is near impossible. They don’t use armor but might camouflage using capes or other methods. Their modus operandi is guerrilla tactics by suddenly appearing from underground or by setting traps, as they are used to darkness sudden bright lights stunt them temporally, use your flashlight or flares in a completely dire situation as it might reveal your position too.”
>>
>>40152897
The next one was a not very distinctive looking Kroot, it was the one with the most human appearance so far.

“This Kroot tribe is by far the worst; illuminated by the holy figure of human anatomy this tribe has tried to feed extensively on humans, while aggressive and vicious they prefer capturing their prey and keeping them alive until the moment of devouring them, this way they have been able to feed with human meat during all year. The Mantle is the most intelligent Kroot tribe, they not only feast on the fallen guards but also loot their equipment, sighting them with flank or carapace armor isn’t so uncommon. They also know how to operate weaponry and even vehicles; some of their fallen have revealed that they can build primitive yet strong slug weapons too. Kill them on sigh.”

During the following minutes we were shown several mutations among the Kroot, those were collectively called The Unbound and were small tribes or individuals that had been rejected from their kindred for the undesired mutations that grown on them. Some were of an aquatic and shark like nature while others had asymmetric musculature or other pitiful bodies.

“If any the participants have inquiries and wishes to know more there are several copies of mag-reel disks. If you ever get one you can ask your local techpriests temple to place and play it with you, remember to do it with respect at all times.”

The video then ended and people stood up. There was still an hour for preparations and other necessities. You had some time to spend freely.

As people left the class you walked towards one of the data-servers and plugged yourself into it via a neurocord. Once inside you saw video files ready to download. You torrented two directly onto your digital memory, one was a copy of the video you just saw to brush it up in the future and the second one was a further analysis of the Kindred known as The Mantle.

While the files were being downloaded you looked at the secret and encrypted forum boards of the Mechanicus and looked at the discussions that your Skitarii were having about your lack of presence among their teams. It seemed that it had stirred some conflict because it was the first time there was a battle and you were going to miss it but most of your warriors concurred in that just like they were your warriors under your command you were under Karelia's command, and thus your presence on her team was unavoidable.
>>
>>40153355

You better reward them somehow after this or otherwise they could get even more detached to you and your leadership position.

The downloads ended a few minutes before everybody was sorted into the different transports to make planetfall. Soon you found yourself surrounded by dozens of men and women wearing all kind of armors and weapons but sharing a black color scheme on them. Those people were more of a private army than bodyguards per-see because among their men there were abhumans like ogryns, ratlings, psykers and even a beastman with a somewhat feline and goat like appareance on itself. Luckily your status as an adept gave you a better position on the vehicle and instead descending with them you were paired with other private hunters and their companions.

>Talk with one of the private hunters about their experiences with past hunts.7

You looked at one of the private hunters, a old man with whitened hair and a long black beard ended in a trinket with the form of the aquila.

"Excuse me sire. It is this your first descend into Heptium for the participation of this hunt event?"

He looked at you with fiery eyes but didn't seemed angry, just kind of bothered. Without muttering a word he opened his jacket and revealed a muscular yet atrophied chest with metal plaques on them and a encapsulated heart that was visible thanks to a transparent crystal. There were several bite, cut and clawing marks on his body.

"Does this answers your question?"

After a few seconds of silence were everybody else looked at him in awe he continued.

"I have been probably killing Kroot even before you were born. I know Heptium will be my grave and that's what my spirit desires, instead of suffering a despairing stranded existence in this system I will launch myself over the xenos menace over and over, for dying while killing a enemy of the Imperium is what the Emperor would have really wanted me to do."

Other people got encouraged and shown their battle scars and started telling tales about how one of their limbs is now bionic because one of their vicious attacks. They even joked about a now deceased hunter called Selenne that got so bitten and devoured so many times over the pass of the years that the Kroot probably shared a lot of her DNA and are sort of her family. You felt kind of horrified, of all those people you were probably the one with the least organic components and the most modified one yet their tales of attacks and how they lost arms or legs felt totally fear inducing for you.
>>
>>40153726
> Talk with the private hunters about the bodyguards.
"What about the bodyguards? I-is there any good tale with them?"

"Don't think so, don't get to attached to those guys, they are mostly for cannon fodder. Ogryns make specially good meat shields, literally, throw a couple of those mentally impaired thugs to the Kroot and between the fighting and the time they will need to devour and gnaw them you will have plenty of time to run away or shoot them down."

As the ship disengaged itself from the Orbiting cruiser and started descending the conversation also descended in quality and taste. From personal tales about confrontations with the Kroot now the discussion spiraled into advises to use those people for their personal use while completely disregarding their lives. You didn't liked abhumans either but still it felt kind of wrong.

>Talk with Karelia using your communicator.
Since the conversation was becoming of a way too bad taste for you you decided to contact Karelia. You didn't talked with her in what felt like ages after all. You opened a direct chat conversation and initiated the exchange.

I personally have no qualms with Liwet becoming a sister, and I also don't think it's worth mentioning that they threatened us in that way.
>>
>>40154011
with that machines function combined with liwets origins i cannot see it ending well, a different order surely won't use such a machine
>>
>>40154060
I figured that on the contrary, Liwet would ace it. I mean, hell, she was still praisin' the emperor whilst most of her skin was missing.

Though I suppose it might trigger weird memory issues considering it might remind her of things that Karelia had mindwiped...

It's true that a different order probably wouldn't use the same machine, but I'd imagine they have some kind of equivalent thing.
>>
>>40153748
>Ask her about Nalasha.
>Why are you so insistent on trying to appease someone who clearly hates you and your daughters, when she is so far beneath you?

++I was wondering. Why someone like you, an Inquisitor from the holy Ordo Hereticus is so insistent on appeasing someone like Nalasha. It is true that she's powerful too as the Planetary Governor but still your power clearly surpasses hers.++

There was a long silence until she started to walk.

++There are several factors, and power is just one of them. First is this fucking hell of a system, exiting it without a safe warp gate is near impossible and Nalasha pretty much controls this entire System with a Iron fist and an anti-psyker mentality.++
++When I meet Inquisitor Rodan I despised him, because he shared the same stances that her sister has. My mere existence was a complete anathema for them, my now deceased husband only tolerated me because we were both loyalist and worked on the same team.++
++I have to admit that I was a complete fool, more times that I would like to admit. I somehow ended falling in love with him, and after forcing him to have a daughter with me I had the vain hope of him having a sudden realization and changing his mentality.++
++It kind of worked...he still hated psykers but Mellizune became and exception to the norm. Rodan felt a mix of fear and love for her.++
++Several months later we meet Nalasha. She had lost her third son and became completely barren. I became the objective of her dire rage and curses. I wasn't only a tainted psyker as she liked to call me but also a witch that spawned an abomination with the pure genes of his brother.++
++Nalasha just couldn't comprehend that her family surname would now be continued by a psyker like Mellizune.++

Another pause. This time longer, she seemed to be emotional.
>>
>>40154131

++After our first meeting we ++From that moment on Nalasha decided to include psykers as young as thirteen years old into the hunts. Those kids of course died in the thousands and their survival rate was negligible. ++barely managed to exit the system because we had Rodan's permission.++
++I felt really bad and entered into a huge depression. If I didn't became capricious with Rodan I wouldn't have ended forcing him to inseminate me with his seed and thus I would have indirectly avoided the deaths of thousands of psykers.++
++And once again I was a complete fool! When I saw Liwet and my daughter I saw her as an opportunity to gain Nalasha's trust.++
++I saw Liwet as a possible heiress for her successor line. I had the hope that she might end befriending and adopting her.++
++I...I don't know what the hell crossed my mind. I just became so heartbroken with Rodan's death that I just wanted to solve everything at once.++
++I wanted to gift Nalasha everything I had and just run away from her life.++
++I feel like I pretty much ruined all her life and that my actions have doomed thousands of psykers too.++
++Not even all my power as an Inquisitress can solve that.++
++I just hope she ends pitying me enough to let me exit the system in peace...++

She then logged off. And the ship managed to land on the planet. Everybody grabbed their stuff and got off the ship and started talking with their superiors, looking around or checking their equipment.

This.

As for the governess dying, it was suggested that wouldn't actually really solve matters, only landing a new set of problems as her succession is handled.
>>
>>40154248
What matters wouldn't it solve? Our inquisitor could do pretty much anything, the problem now is that she's too emotional.

For succession, I guess some random guy could be appointed, which could maybe not go too well for the system, but that wouldn't be our problem.
>>
>>40154176
>Check your equipment and get sure that you had packed everything.
>Try to find Karelia and stick to her.

With the exception of some slave adepts with reinforced spines and bionic legs that worked like transport mules you could be the participant with more weaponry on itself, both on its body and inventory.

You had several weapons on yourself. A plasma rifle, a flamer/chainsword, a hidden flamer and powerblade installed on your arms, an arc pistol, a phosphor blast pistol, two flamer dendrites and other two dendrites designed for close combat ended in a claw and a drill. As for familiars you had two servoskulls accompanying you at all times, one was Morti, a human skull equipped with a taser pike, the other was Wurgen, a servokull made from a Fenrisian Wolf and fitted with a lasgun equivalent.

As for armor and defense you had your trusty robes and a set of Skitarii armor, both were chemically treated to be able to resist elemental damage like fire or ice to a bigger or lesser degree. Your entire skull has also been exchanged for a metallic copy and thus it gave you some protection against headshots or blows.

There was a pretty wide array of other gadgets at your disposal too like your Omnispex, able to scan enemies and even analyze their weak points if given enough time. You also had a rebreather that could let you breathe in bad quality environments.
>>
>>40154479

With everything checked for triplicate you walked towards Karelia. She was wearing a full suit of power armor. It was white and decorated with gold filigrees and strange sigils. Covering her head there was an electric blue hood with a black rim, covering part of her warpsteel mask there was a cream colored kufiyyeh. There wasn't any part of her body visible or uncovered. Oddly, she didn't wore any kind of weapon on herself.

Not very far away stood Nalasha, she didn't wore any kind of armor, just a somewhat less pompous dress made from black leather, her long gray hair was now braided into three pigtails, each one maintained hovering by a servoskull made from one of her deceased sons, on her back there was a great rifle of archaic appareance. There was a great herd of bodyguards around her, creating a protective shield of meat.

"Stick with her or with me." Karelia said sneaking from behind. "I will go on my own and you can do that too. This team isn't a team at all, each of the private hunters want to have glory on their own... as soon as we start we will inevitably fragment sooner or later."

Ma'am with respect I trust Nalasha as far as a ratling could through her. If she was ever to make a move to assassinate you now would be it, and given the backwater this planet is no one would care.
>>
>>40154490
This is a difficult choice, on one hand this system would be perfect for us to do heretical shit,
Plenty of blindspots in it. On the other hand getting full inquisitorial status and our own ship would do even more for us.

>>40154561

seconding, also I wonder what could be done to improve the stealth of the skull. I find the idea of a flying invisible spying skeleton very appealing.

>Go with Karelia

You are her adept, you are her technician, you are her warrior. Without a doubt you stood next to Karelia. You weren't the only one thought, there were a couple of bodyguards with them, you were able to identify them because they wore the same warpsteel medallions that they had while on the Cruiser, there were some other too, four mercenaries that were apparently contracted on the slums of the Space Station and a couple of Ogryns, including one completely covered by a robe, maybe because of heavy mutations on his body.

In total we were the following group.
>Leader:
+Karelia
>Adepts:
+Heracor ( You )
>Bodyguards:
+15 Crewsmen armed with Flak armor, communicators and combat shotguns.
+5 Mercenaries with Flak armor, Autoguns, communicators and Frag Grenades.
+5 Ogryins with Ripper Guns.

Your group wasn't the biggest one but neither the smallest, you felt pretty confident with it. On your back there was a beach and in front of you a big forest. According to your compass the beach was the west and the forest the east. The air was kind of cold, if you remember right your landing area was pretty close to the south pole.

After checking the communications with the rest of the team Karelia spoke.

"I am the leader right now and thus my word is law. Still, even if we have a clear mission we don't have any clear objective yet. We are alone and completely surrounded by vile xenos. Where should we start looking for them?"

>Suggest advancing towards the forests.
"We only have food and sustenance for a couple of days. I suggest advancing towards the forests and gathering all the fruits that we can." You said.

"We could even try to hunt something." Suggested one of the mercs.

"What about the water, the survival course told us that humans can go further without food than water, shouldn't we try to go towards the coast maybe?" Said a crewswoman.

"You weren't very focused on what they told right? Salt water isn't potable. I bet a someone of the Navy like you hasn't never been without a source of clean water, fucking privileged..." Answered the same merc as before.

A small argue formed between the two and later it escalated between the mercs and the crewsmen of the Navy, at the end Karelia decided to turn it into something somewhat democratic, everybody but the Ogryns had the right to vote. At the end going towards the forests won.

Looking around you saw the ship taking off and ascending into orbit, until it disappeared. The rest of the groups started advancing, all to different directions but still following similar routes.
>>
>>40155032

Once entering the forest the lux levels decreased because of the leafy and wild treetops and how they blocked the light. We all were very tense, there was a strong and cold wind that whispered around us and gave us false alarm of enemies around.

The threes seemed to be mostly pine like, they they had circular and wide trunks and were ended in big and circular tops with brown, reddish leaves on them. There wasn't any kind of visible fruit sprouting on their branches, at least not from our position. There were also some shrubs with berries and cherry like fruits.

Advancing across that terrain wasn't so hard, it was pretty regular and the threes were separated enough to let pass to the two chimeras that we had with us.

There were several things you could do but not more than one at once, you would have to stop to do so and that was something impossible right now.

>Check if there are any enemies with your several lenses ( Make a dice roll )
>Grab those berries and study them as you travel.
>Order the Ogryns to demolish one of the trees to see if they give any kind of fruit.

>Check if there are any enemies with your several lenses (88)

It isn't dark enough to use the night vision lenses yet, you activate your X-Rays but besides the different trees and the bones of the members of your own team you don't manage to see anything clear. It was a shame you didn't ended installing heat vision back in the day, it would have been really useful now.

Just as you returned to your normal vision you heard something. A screech and a scream several meters away. Then it was followed by a croaking guttural voice and gunshots. The first team had been attacked.

Even if you didn't managed to see any enemy your heightened senses let you locate the origin of the noise and the distance it was located at. It was about two hundred meters away to your east. It seems that with the exception of a couple of other members nobody else has been able to hear the gunshots and screams.

>Tell to the rest of your team about it and head towards the battle.
>Continue advancing it isn't your problem.
>Send your servoskull to record it all and then return, use the footage to study it.
>Write in.

Sorry for the short answer, I had to attend an Important phone call.

As the rest of the small group advanced guided by Karelia you sent Morti and directly connecting yourself with it programmed her to go to the location of the sound, ascend towards the trees and start recording for five minutes before returning. It should take it about twenty five minutes to do everything, including going and returning.

With the skull floating away your team advanced in silence and with their weapons raised, everybody felt cautious as the cunning Kroot could appear at any moment. After thirty minutes walking you noticed that Morti didn't returned, you started to get worried about your beloved servoskull. Then a loud binary screech was heard in all the comms, the people managed to remove them but you couldn't, your communicator was wired and bolted to your inner ear channel, it was part of you. It continued for about a minute, long enough to make you fall on your back.

Your brain was painfully pulsating fast and heavily, it felt bloated and hot. A black foggy frame started appearing on your vision...and then everything was gone. There was a spherical figure between the tree branches and then it fell on your chest.

With the help of your teammates you managed to stand up and recover. That figure was your servoskull, it was all clawed and damaged. The screech was the sound of its death lament as it tried to aimlessly reach you. It had both camera eyes pierced, it was a true miracle that it managed to get so close to you. Surely the Omnissiah guided her towards you during its last moments.
>>
>>40155704

"Wh-what was that?" Asked a confused merc.

"I...I heard some guns firing in the distance and sent my servoskull to record it all for further study. It seems that it was discovered and damaged. Even wounded its spirit wanted to finish its mission and tried to return to me. That screech was its death scream sounding on the comm channels."

"Are you alright?" Inquired Karelia.

"Yes yes, unlike you all my communicator is part of myself and thus I couldn't remove it. It's scream was also aimed towards me and thus it affected me most. I am not wounded...just...heartbroken."

"So...did it record it? I mean its eyes are broken."

"Yes, even if its cameras are pierced it seems that it was able to store it all on its memory. I might be able to recover it."

You cannot cry but you kind of wish you could do right now. With a shaky hand you grab your neurocord and connect your mind with your beloved servoskull, once the connection is done some sparks come out of its creaks and its broken eyes glow for one last time. The connection between you two its so potent and strong that you are even able to see the video as it is being downloaded.

It shows how it hovered over a tree branch. On the floor there was a group of about twenty Kroot fighting bodyguards and private hunters, the feed wasn't glitched but still not good enough to discern a lot of details in the distance.

The xenos fought with brutality jumping from the branches and using their crude swords to chop and mow the humans. It seemed that those were part of the tribe known as The Mantle, they knew how to use weapons and were even able to disarm and steal rifles for their posterior use.
>>
>>40156217

At the end of the battle the hunter a a few survivors got on the Chimeras and ran over the unaware Kroot that were feasting on the defeated humans or looting their corpses. Just before absconding away the opened the posterior hatch and used several grenades to stop them from following them back. The last minutes showed a clawed hand grabbing the servoskull and directly looking at it. The captor was a Kroot with a bandanna and a jury rigged flak armor on his scrawny yet muscular body.

The Kroot smelled the servoskull and then tried to eat it, maybe in a vain primitive attempt of feeding as it noticed that it had a human smell on it. As soon as it opened its beak and showed its viscous tongue and saliva filled gap Morti activated its taser pike and electrocuted its throat. The enemy backed from the pain and clawed the Servoskull before falling from the tree branch and apparently dying from the fall.

Following its programming Morti returned towards you. You just hoped that none of the other Kroots noticed it or managed to pick its smell.

When the download and the video finished you stored the now deceased servoskull on your Inventory and continued walking with the rest of the team. Both staying quiet and staying behind would be a certain death.

>Roll a 1d100. Let's see if the rest of the Kroot managed to follow Morti.

So noted, watch the treeline, don't engage them in melee, and beware of the guns.
>>
Hey guys! How many filthy kroot does it take to screw in a lightbulb!?

Trick question: The foul Kroots are too primitive and savage to utilize a lightbulb much less switch one out! Only a human can do that.
>>
>>40156228

Your team continued advancing until reaching a clear. It was starting to become night time and apparently there wasn't any enemy that had detected your presence yet.

"Should we make a encampment here? Looks like a good place." Asked a crewsman.

"No, we have to advance even further, we still have an hour of so of daylight." Answered another.

"Agreed."

The person that asked to stop looked bothered, it was obvious that he was in pain from the walking. Maybe it wasn't used to walking for so long as its work in the Cruiser didn't required him to move very far away. You were kind of lucky in that situation, your bionic legs were part of you but had no pain sensors. Removing the weak flesh also eliminated problems such as blisters and rashes among other things.

As the group continued advancing Karelia moved towards you.

"Were you able to recover the recording?"

"Yes I was, miss."

"What did it showed?"

"Kroot from the tribe known as the Mantle. They used human manufactured weapons and armor. The group they attacked fell under their ambush and fought bravely, the survivors were able to run away using the sacred Chimeras and a cover of grenades."

"How many?" She asked gravely.

"H-hard to say Miss. I would say that they were about twenty."

"Any advice about their combat style?"

"They seem to be able to travel on the tree branches, attacking them on melee looks like a suicide, cannot say much more."
>>
>>40156655

Karelia smirked and then showed me why she didn't carried weapons on her. A faint blue glow started forming on the tip of her hands until it extended and covered her entire body. She then channeled all that psychic energy and created a telekinetic explosion of some kind, leaving all the trees around without any leaf and suddenly revealing the position of a group of Kroot warriors.

Apparently she was able to sense their primitive minds and read them to some degree, right now she was our best auspex.

"Everybody group!" Yelled her.

>Use your plasma rifle.

As you start chanting the litanies of good-shoot and machine appeasing songs you raise your powerful plasma rifle and charge the trigger. The heavy and thick weapon starts illuminating its coils until they pass from clear green to pure white. When it starts to roar and tremble with its contained rage you release the trigger and let the charge fly away from its cannon towards your enemy.

The green bolt flew away melting several leaves as it flew away until it ended landing into the face of one of them. The superheated plasma started melting its flesh and boiling its fat, it continued corroding into its skull and entering into its mouth. Its beak was so strong and durable that the plasma wasn't able to pierce it so instead it went in the only possible direction, inside the throat.

You were able to see from the beginning to the end how the neck of the xenos started to glow with a greenish tint when the plasma started to descend into its interior. Then the foul beast got decapitated as the nerves and muscles that connected its head to its torso became severed by the intense heat and acidic effect of the plasma.

It was an extremely nasty yet silent death, the Kroot couldn't scream in pain, it didn't had vocal chords anymore. As its spirit left its body it fell to the floor and its head rolled, leaving a trail of smoke from the charred neck.
>>
>>40157036
More and more Kroot descended from the tree branches onto the team members, they seemed to have to chance against the cloaked Ogryn as it was surrounded by three or four bodies and you were able to see how it made the head of one of them explode with a well aimed punch.

Those beasts seemed to have not even a spic of honor on them. One jumped from the back with a laspistol on one hand and one sword raised in the other.

"UPCLOSE IS WHERE FIGTHING IS BEST" It yelled with its growly voice as it descended quickly.

>You have no time for such beasts, taunt and insult him and make Wurgen shoot him down.

Dashing backwards you avoid him falling over you.

"Fighting?" You say. "You don't fight, nay, you are little more than a animal. And as thus you don't deserve my efforts."

You look at Wurgen and stablish a link with it, and then you used your Vox-Datacommand.

"Wurgen, kill him, kill that beast."

It seems that the Wolf animalistic machine spirit of the Servo-skull recognizes the Kroot as other hunters and thus as competitors. Soon its lasgun starts shooting the xeno over and over. The small and barely sentient brain of the alien didn't really knew what the servoskull was and thus didn't recognized the true threat that it posed to him.

Wurgen's shoots were accurate and deadly. It kind of humiliated the Kroot too, first it shoot its knees and arms down, and when it lied on its back shoot it on the stomach a couple of times and left it with agonizing pain before pitying him and killing him with a headshot.

You didn't really knew if that death would have counted towards your score, out of respect you decided to give that kill to Wurgen and thus not take a trophy from that dead.

Looking around you saw Karelia using her telekinetic powers once more to elevate Kroot and stab them into the tree branches. One of the Ogryns was becoming overwhelmed by Kroot and being eaten alive as he aimlessly waddled and tried to shake them off. All around there were people that were killing and being killed.

>Help the Ogryn, she might be useful in the future.

If you used a fire weapon the risk of hitting her would be way too big. Using your chainsword and blade instead you get closer and proceed to backstab and slash all the Kroot that are gnawing on her, at the same time Wurgen looks at the perimeter and gets sure that nobody else gets closer to you two.

There is no time to kill them, you just cut them enough to make them get out of her muscular arms, by the time there are only a couple of them still hanging on her body the female Ogryn seems to gather enough strength to fight back. She grabs the two remaining xenos and crush their two heads together until they are little more than a pulp. The rest like the cowards they are end retreating back while limping.

The strong and muscular woman falls down, she's all pale from the bloodloss but when you try to help her she pushes you out.

"NALA WILL HEAL, NO TOUCH NALA...THANKS FO HELP."

You looked around and saw the the enemy retreated, before they left they grabbed a merc that was still alive and dragged him down into the forest, we tried to help the merc but we were all too tired and wounded, we just couldn't... the sighting of how that mercenary woman clawed the ground until her nails were out of her fingers and started leaving a trail of blood and being unable to do anything to save her was a great blow to the morale of our team.

Not even using your lenses you were able to find the Kroot that you killed and its decapitated head, it seemed that the foul xenos didn't only got human bodies to feast on but also their own kin.

At the we got the wounded inside the two chimeras and made the ones that were still able to fight get on top while we drove away. It was late night when we managed to leave the forest. It was then when you all passed the nights doing turns to guard the rest.

The next morning a somewhat recovered Nala approached you. She was still badly scarred and had some bite marks around her body but seemed to be healing at an incredible speed.

"YOU SAVED NALA, NALA WANTS TO SNU WITH YOU"

"E-excuse me?" You answered kind of shocked. She didn't knew how to control her voice tone and thus everybody around heard her, some even laughed at you.

"SNU IS WHEN NALA GETS NUDED AND THEN I-"

"I know! Th-thanks Nala...I'll think about it."

The apparently child minded giantess smiled at you and doing small cheerful jumps and a strange dance she got in position to continue with the march.

After entering into the chassis of the Chimera you look at the two wounded inside, the ogryn while wounded was strong enough to stay on her feet and thus she wasn't lying inside like the rest.

One seemed to be lacking part of his calf and the other was slashed with one of their swords. Using your lenses you looked at their Vitalis points.

Your health indicator while useful wasn't always clear with its indications. The first subject had a better health but was more crippled and we didn't had any chance to save his leg, nor equipment to do so, while the second one was more severely wounded but had more chance of survival and recovery. Even if the second one was more damaged you thought it had more chances of surviving.

>See if you can contact with other teams and check their status.

You tried to contact with the ship on orbit. You knew that it didn't left the planet yet because there was a dim yet constant coverage signal on your system. Sending a signal and rebounding it on the cruiser to reach other point of the planet wasn't the best way of contacting with other people but since there was a lack of satellite dishes and repeaters it was the only way of doing so. It wouldn't let you talk with other people on the other side of the planet but at least it would let you contact people in an area that covered a few kilometers of your actual position.

Using a triangulating software you managed to ricochet your radio signal on the ship and then detect your position, then you superimposed a map of the planet on it, the result was far from good and only showed an small area of the entire world but still was advantageous. Trying to contact with the other teams wasn't of any luck, maybe your signal was too weak or they just simply didn't knew of to attune themselves to hear your voice across the waves.

On the north there was the coast, on the east there was a small gateway that connected with the mainland, on the south there was more coast and on the west the forest your team came from.

"I have got our position triangulated, there is a small pathway that communicates with the rest of the island. Maybe we could use it to meet with the rest of teams and gather a stronger force..."

We all looked towards Karelia, she was the boss and thus she was truly the one that choose what to do. She was floating in the air with her body extended and the same blue energy pouring from her soles and apparently maintaining her away from the solid ground. She seemed to be in some kind of trance.

"Man she gives me the-" Said a mercenary.

"Creeps" She answered, surely reading her mind and knowing what would she say.

Being a psyker and such a strong mindreader she surely had to read many insults and other kind of remarks on a daily basis, she seemed to hate it and wanted more acceptation of the psyker population among the rest of humans, still, you were the only one she had encountered so far that she couldn't read, yet instead of feeling relieved from not hearing insults from your end she felt kind of strange and even attacked, in her case she had to mindread all those insults and private thoughts, it was wrong to not do otherwise.

"This creep is trying to attune with the strange alien minds of the Kroot, to disclose their positions. Their brains give me conflicting signals, there are various voices, some are more civilized while others are completely animal like, yet they all sound alike. There is no difference between them and beasts... There are some strange voices too, I haven't been able to completely discern what they are, they are loud and savage thought."

After her speech we all ended more confused that we were initially.

"So...where should we go, Miss?"

She descended and without a word started walking, soon we all followed behind.

Who's currently looking after the kid? Faust and Eugene are a part of the hunt, aren't they?

The tau would give us more Heretek opportunities, but... that doesn't seam like the best of ideas, currently.

My guess would be 'Nids show up and we have to ally with the filthy xenos to combat the even filthier xenos.

If the nids show up on planet it's gg no re, this system doesn't have the resources to stop a hive fleet. Hell depending on size of the tau strikeforce we'd be fucked.

Nah, you are wrong...or maybe not.

I kind of missed commenting on it but Liwet's keeping Mellizune and Alaria safe. And yes, the couple is part of the hunt.

I dunno, if it's just some Genestealers and/or Lictors we could do it. And if we take to long to kill them off, then we have to gtfo the system before the Hivefleet arrives and noms us.

That seams like something that could happen in this quest, right?

If lictors are here we'd be pretty fucked already as the fleet would be here already. Or en route and close at least. Genestealers here would make no sense, they'd be better in the cities or on the moons. Kroot hate nids and can actually sniff them out given time.

And getting out of this system quickly is a joke.

Average transit time out of system?
>>
>>40159302
Karelia pretty much explained that unless you are given the coordinates to a safe warp portal you cannot leave the system.
>>
>>40159372
Doesn't Karelia realize she could easily depose Her sister in law for heresy by obstructing an inquisitor?
>>
>>40159461
Karelia is still human you could heartless weenie.

She feels terribly wrong for pretty much everything she did. Killing Nalasha would only spiral her into more suffering.
>>
>>40159505
Considering she is a mind reader of rather large skill doesn't she understand Nalasha will always hate her and try to kill her if possible? I mean It was made clear she considers herself Karelia's enemy. That on principle is too dumb to live territory and heretical.

Alright. It is uploaded:

Trust me anon...there is a reason behind everything Karelia does~

Yeah that is what worries me. A lot. Thanks for running!
