The rain pours out of the swollen sky above, landing in muddy pools coagulated in the middle of the equally muddy unpaved streets. The humidity makes it seem as though the land is underwater.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B63t77qe6_U&hd=1

You are on those dirt roads- sitting on your ass after the large bartender kicked you out of the antique tavern. The city is still alive, despite the rain. Citizens wearing rustic, heavy cotton ponchos hustle between wooden shack and tri-storied buildings. In their bright flashes of woolen colors, you can see they are carrying baskets of goods: foodstuffs, leaves, and pottery on their heads or under dry cover. All in all, the people are bustling to and fro but seem at ease- this is just another day. A cart pulled by an alpaca rolls by you, splashing you with- what you hope is- muddy liquid.

You see two dirty street urchins playing with a ball made from some shell of a fruit in an alley nearby- covered by the wood-and-thatch outcropping of a house’s roof overhead. The raindrops are reflecting their bronze skin like mirrors. A shaggy dog is barking circles around their game.

Welcome to the land of Orre. Time to edit the story

>Ask the Red Lady for details (of what?)
> There is a shop, Edgar’s Antiques, diagonal to you across the street. The people seem to ignore it.
>There are loud noises coming from the building next to the tavern. The sign on the front says “Upper-Hand Dojo.”
>There is what looks to be a general store, with goods in glass windows. Most of the populace seems to be coming here
>Inspect the alleyway with the kids
>Pee on the Tavern out of Spite
>The cart which just passed by you smelled somewhat of fish. Now that you mention it, you can hear the telltale rippling of waves over the booming storm.

The Fire ones are straightforward.
>Flame surge: summon a continuous jet stream of flame( think a flamethrower) . Not as concentrated or as hot as either Fireball or as the spontaneous Combustion. However, it is continuous and has some reach
>Combustion: Spontaneous combustion of the air in front of your outstretched hand- short, simple, powerful.

Steel:
>Galvanize: Magnetize your weapon. Your attacks will have slightly greater chance to hit against metal-armored/armed opponents.
>Shackle: Slow or outright restrain opponents in metal armor.
>Temper: Weaken or strengthen a weapon/item's durability. It you aim to roll to break something, this will help immensely.
>Entrench: You are standing your ground, and are a wall of iron yourself. You ain't getting knocked around, as this nearly cements you to whatever ground you are on. Don't use over/in water or on precarious/unstable ground.
>Battering Ram: MOVE, BITCH. GET OUT THE WAY

Go find Spike's past self/carnation, figure what he did wrong, or take him with us, before Pursuer breaks through the walls of reality right next to us like the Kool aid Man. Picking yourself up and (failing to) swat the clumps of mud off your dark pinstripe suit pants, the shop across the way catches your eye.
“Edgar’s Antiques, hunh?” You mutter to yourself. Orre could easily be classified as antique by your own standards, these guys were centuries away from electricity. The thought about their limited selection of pre-modern spirits and smokable substances briefly flits about your thoughts before thoroughly drowned out by another raging crash of thunder.

This thunderstorm sounds straight violent, like a derailing train more than an act of Mother Nature.

“Hey, I’m not standing in the rain all day,” The Red Lady huffs, picking her own soggy behind out of the mud and….other substances.

“Yeah sorry,” you push the thoughts out of your head
And start to jog over to the storefront. Pushing open the door, you hear a small chime. For a backwater shop in a rustic town….this place is pretty well kept. The counters and merchandise are well dusted and preserved, it smells faintly of leather. A full sized skeleton sits behind the counter, between two stocked bookshelves. It looks like it could be a jaguar.

The graying, caucasian old man in a tunic and crisp pants lowers his glasses to get a glimpse of you as you enter. The surprise is plain to see on his face, as you don’t look like the average customer….not that he probably gets many anyway. He has an old leather-bound book slung about his left hip.

“How can I help you?”

"Nice place you got here, gramps. You get strange customers often?" you banter idly while inspecting the surrounding merchandise. Hunh, that’s a cute little necklace there. It looks like it’s made out of seashells.
The man raises an eyebrow at your comment, “Who are YOU calling gramps, pops?”

Ouch.

“As for strange customers, well,” You spreads his arms defeated, “any customers are strange these days.”
“It is odd to see another pale-skin here. I thought I was the only one in town. I’m from up North. Originally, I came to study the jungle ruins; only, as you see now I started a shop- just can’t leave really, too much to learn around these parts.”

“Whatever I find that seems generally safe for the public- and not entirely important to my own studies- I sell here, I also deal in maps and self-written tomes about the history and myth of the region,” he shrugs at this, “Not exactly the smartest plan when everyone in the region knows their own mythology.

“You sound like just the person to ask then, what’s the currency around these parts?” you interject. You didn’t ask for a story.

“The locals deal in seashells, precious minerals, and various fruits. Each represents a unit of labor, or something like that. I’ll take gold if you have it.”

Hunh. Fruit, seashells, and precious minerals. Weird.

“Actually pops, I have something else for you to check,”

“Actually, Pops, I have something else for you to check.”

Well, if the man deals in antiques and mythology, who better to go to.

Wordlessly, you turn and snatch up the soaking-wet Red in a quick bridal carry; Red squeaks a bit in surprise and her eyes grow wide with shock. One, two and…

SPLAT

Droplets scatter and a small puddle forms on the counter where you plopped down the Red Lady. Your shoulder and arms are wet from where you snatched her up. She’s whips around to face you; she’s rather flushed in the face, or it could be from the rai-
Oh. Oh shit, there’s that look again from before in Cathedral. Better keep a lock on that sword of yours before she snags it and repays that favor.

The shopkeeper is just plain confused, eyes shifting from you to the Lady and back like you’re crazy enough to jump up and bite him. You clear your throat and regain the composure you had a moment ago.
“Do you know any Mythology that involves girls that look like her? No, I’m not selling her.”
Another idea crosses your mind as you finish, and you reaching behind Red’s back- evading her burning glare- and seek out the shotgun from her bag, placing its still-warm barrel on the counter.

“Also, know any weapons like this around these parts?”

The shopkeeper gives a quick, yet thorough stare at Red, but then turns all his attention to the gun that waltzed into his world. Yeah, he looks a little blown away.

“I don’t think I have ever seen anything like this before…” He manages to comment, breathless.
“It reminds me of a new type of ranged bow back home, it was loaded with a sort of powder that exploded. But,” he looks at you, dazed, ”I haven’t seen anything quite like it. I don’t think I could help you. But, you may want to try the Twins. They live down the alleyway back by the Tavern.”

“As for the girl…” he starts, before hesitating back to you with a wry grin, “I've come across some things in my time here."

>>40248431
He points right outside, in the direction of the tavern and the alley where you saw the kids playing with the dog.

"Look for the weird, smokey shack. You may want to hurry up though, it's probably getting past their bed time."

“Thanks for the advice, I think we need to go though,” you finish quickly. The anxiety is starting to creep into your mind again- something is off.

Leaving a perplexed and concerned shopkeeper, you begin hurrying towards the alleyway where he said the twins are. You need bullets. You need to be armed. You need-

“Spike!”

…You need to bring along Red. Crap, pull yourself together, Steven; you’d left her sitting on the countertop in the store.

“What’s wrong with you?!” she runs up, spitting accusingly. “First you violate my personal space without asking, then you run off without warning?” She is beginning to heat up.

“Sorry, Red, it’s just,” you pause and give a quick glance around, “I feel something wrong. Something is about to happen. It’s the same as when I saw you, or the demons, or when you cast magic.”

Her glare turns to a serious look; her frown becomes a straight, dry line instantly.

“Then quit standing around, we need to hurry.” She runs off in front of your towards the alley. She really is feisty, isn’t she?

The alley is dark and wet, but thankfully you walk down it with some overhanging cover above. At the end you see a makeshift tin and wood shack, covered in dirt and soot. The shack has multiple chimneys and the area swelters with a distinct dry heat. You hear the distinct clamoring of hammer on anvil and the crackling of a fire as you enter through the door- a simple pane of metal covering a hole in the structure.

Entering, you're met with the sight of....a rather ADVANCED workshop of sorts.

At a piecemeal workbench you see a child no more than 9 years old. He's hammering out a sword longer than he is with a hammer the size of his arm. All things considered, he's handling himself pretty well.

You smell sulfur and something burning....also, garbage. Probably from the few wicker baskets of trash or scrap around the place.

“Hello?” You call out to the tiny blacksmith, who nearly falls over in surprise.

With a spin, the child faces you with the hammer brandished. “Hey, who are you and how did you get in here! You’re not Cuatro!” he yells out, in a shrill, young voice.

“Look, I don’t have time for questions. I need a weapon. Do you make bullets? We’re running out-“

Wait, what’s a Cuatro?

“CUAAAAAAAAAAAAAATROOOOO” Screams a flying eleven year old child as he explodes out the nearby scrap pile and tackles you headfirst in the bicep. OH GOD, WHAT.
“CuuuuuuuuAAAtro!” The kid is climbing all over you, attempting to punch you.

"H-Hey Cuatro, watch out! He's got a sword!" The first kid calls out in a nasally voice.

"Cuatro" quickly panics, jumps off of you, and scatters behind the workbench his brother was previously working at.

(Just got kicked out of 4chan twice, and lost what I wrote both times)
You don't have time for this. Something is coming.

"Look, look you little kids," you openly brandish your gun, "I've got a nice, cool metal BOW for you to work on! But, it need special METAL ARROWS to w-"

"That's not a bow, it's a gun," The blacksmith scoffs. "And we can make ammunition just fine." He finishes in his huffing, toddler like way.

The thunder suddenly booms louder than anytime before, physically rattling the shack.
The rain begins to pelt even harder, sounding like stones being thrown rather than water.

Most importantly....

The Pressure is building. SOMETHING.IS.COMING.

"Look, you bra-"

"Spike!" The Red Lady stops you, her brow furrowed. "You're scaring them!"

Swaying up to the twins, she crouches down toward their level.

"Hey strong men, could you do me a really important favor?" Cue sunny smile and flash of white.
"My mean, grumpy, old friend here keeps pestering me about ammo. Could you make some for him? It would really help me; I would be SO grateful if you even can," She cocks her head to the side.

"Heh-heh, yeah I can!" The blacksmith giggles stupidly. Like a child, go figure.

Behind the desk, Cuatro calls out, "If you like your waifu so much, Chan, why don't you just give her the shop? You're such a white knight!"

The blacksmith, Chan, whips around and looks like he's about to throw the hammer. "Like you're one to talk, Cuatro! I've seen you hanging around and bothering the tumblers at the gymnastics dojo around the corner!"

"THE AMMO," you interrupt their conversation abruptly.

Chan jumps a bit. "Jeez, you old fart, I'll make your ammo just give me a second."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mRM4aQCHp2Y

As if to deny the request, you hear a titanic explosion and a crash. The earth quakes for a few solid minutes as everything hanging in the shop dances with a mad glee.

The sound of thunder stops. For a brief moment, the sound of rain does too; the pitter-pat replaced by howling wind and scratching noises. Yet, the sound of rain resumes after a minute, but rather than thunder it is accompanied by screams from across the city.

It wasn't thunder all along.

Peek out the shop windows, lay low. Get a view of what corporeal form the Pursuer has taken upon. We have entrench, Fireball, and Battering Ram, Deck of Tarot Cards, and Odin's Muse Shot. Our option is to either try to Fend it off with Magic, Red, and what mediocre Town Defense System this world has, or Run like hell. So we either Stall for bullets before we run like hell, or we Stall for bullets before we try to fend/kill/repel the Pursuer and then running away. If we battle, we either circle strafe with pesky fireball shots while dodging, entrench if we seem to be unable to clear a oncoming attack, and use battering ram as a last resort escape tactic. Tarots are a wild card so we draw them when we are safe to ensure the randomness can be controlled and used to the best of ability no matter the result.

This isn’t good. You feel the pressure still building in the back of your head. It’s still increasing, meaning it’s getting closer or isn’t here quite yet.

You hope the Muses are alright.

But there is time for that later, Steve. You’re in a combat zone now. You need to take charge. You glance over at the two cowering brothers and the Red Lady. She is giving you an equally determined look back and her mouth is in a wry line.

“You two, under the desk,” the brothers scramble to comply with your barked orders. “Red, I’ll be back in a moment.” She nods in silent confirmation.

With a hustle you haven’t felt in years, you bob and weave around the scrap in the house and make your way back out into the alley. A thick layer of dust covers everything, though it is raining more heavily now than ever. You hear the screams of hundred echo across the city; all the noise seems to be coming from a single direction, you note as you approach the exit of the alley.

“Daddy! Daddy, come on!”

You freeze. The voice belonged to a small child, the same one from the bar in fact. He’s no more than 15 meters ahead of you on the far side of the muddy street. The kid is attempting to drag along his drunken father, who stumbles in pure stupor. “Daddy, hurry! We need to get home!”

You start for the exit of the alley, you start to smell the familiar copper scent of blood. Before you can cross the boundary, you see multiple shapes out of the corner of your eye, down the street.

“Daddy, get up! They’r-“

The child doesn’t finish his pleading. With a staggering thump, he drops the drunkard father and lands on his back. His blank eyes stare at the sky In shock, as the arrow in his neck drains the lifeblood from his young veins.

You hear rustling and hide in the shadows just in time, as you see the armored figures of seven men approaches the incapacitated man and dead child. From the shadows you hear the familiar gurgle as steel pierces lung.
“Find any survivors,” a voice calmly orders, “this city is ours. History shall tell no tales of this.”

The pressure keeps building.

Time for Heart of the cards. Depending on the Tarot Result, if it's something good, we could use this opportunity to rally survivors and hope to escape, if it's bad, then use it as a distraction at the worst. Hopefully it'll buy us enough time to run back and get some bullets. And from we've witnessed, armored figures are probably in plate/chainmail mix. What caliber is our Good ol' Shottie and is the calibur high enough to punch through mail or plate?

>Card 10: King of Cups!

The adrenaline is pumping in your veins. You can hardly focus as you draw the card from the top of the tarot deck in your pocket.

Even in the haze of fear and focus, you manage to sneak a peek at the card. It depicts a Man of Exquisite dress on a broad throne. In his left hand, an oversized goblet is held. In the right, a scepter. He has a discerning, scrunched look on his face, as if he is the steady force of equity and balance amid a raging sea- upon which his throne is conveniently seated.

Hunh, another royalty card, you wonder. As long as you wife doesn't pop out again, thi should be fine.

You hear nervous mumbling among the squadron of soldiers. Then you hear it as well....

The rain has stopped.

Looking up, you see the rain drops stopping midair, at least 20 feet above all of you. It floats, idly- simply collecting in a dome shape above the heads of the warmongers.

A small trickle of the liquid seeps down in a flowing stream, where it pours down upon your forehead as if in anointment.

You want Justice.

You want answers.

The water recedes from your head without a sound. Did it hear your thoughts?

Seconds later, you get your answer. The dome of water jolts to life with a twitch; individual raindrops separate, elongating to millimeter-thick needles which hover menacingly where once there had been a glorified water balloon.

Thousands of needles, watching as if they were alive.

"What the Fuc-" You hear a addled soldier whisper, before a passing *whoosh* of air blows though your hiding spot.

Looking out, you simply see: rain, muddy ground, pools of blood, and soldiers in red iron armor lying still on the ground.

Their necks look like Swiss cheese, yet the rest of their bodies remain untouched. Against a corner of a building, however, lies a single warrior.

There are hundreds of holes at the joints and liagments of his arms and legs, along with various other points of his torso. He coughs a splat of blood, and struggles to look up to you.

"W-what did you do?"

You whistle a jovial tune as you approach the impossibly crippled man, mostly to conceal your own shock and awe.

Damn, these cards pack a mean punch. You're glad you're the dealer and not the receiver.

You approach the soldier, and crouch down to his eye level. He can't even fully lift his neck face you.
" So, you bums were planning to wipe this city off the map.I did what any bum like myself would do in said situation- stop you."

" I'd love to stay and chat, but I've got death nipping at my heels. You've heard of 'The Pursuer' right?"
The man shakes his head as blood dribbles out of his nose.
"Well than, you'd better tell me who's your head honcho. Speak now before I decide to leave you bleeding in the streets. It won't be long before you'll meet it- The Pursuer, that is." You quickly correct yourself in a mocking tone.

The man gulps down what is most likely spittle and blood. "The city gates- the chief is heading in through the hole we broke in the wall."

"Thanks buddy," you say as walk back to the twins. You're gonna need ammo for this one.

You make your way into the nearby alleyway, ignoring the demanding and pleading of the gimped war criminal behind you.

Even before you reach the shed, Red pops out the makeshift door and runs over to you, splashing through the growing puddles.

"Hey, fresh off the press!" She calls out, bursting with enthusiasm as she closes in.

Then it happens.....
>>40252431
>>40252461

The pressure reaches its peak.
The Pursuer is here.

You sprint the last few feet to the Red Lady, grabbing what she's come to offer.

>RECEIVED 7 SHOTGUN SHELLS (4 Buckshot, 3 Slugs)
(+ 1 muse shot you had already!)

"We need to go, Red. It's here"

The Red Lady's eyes grow wide with the realization of what you're saying.

"I'll grab the twins!" She says, her voice trembling with panic. But it's too late.

You could hear the bellow from miles away. But, you were less than a half of one from the source. It shakes the ground, rocks jumping for fear at your feet. Rhythmic quaking of the ground alongside the tremendous blasts of buildings crumbling confirm it.

The Pursuer has come.

The Pursuer has your scent.

It will follow you to the ends of the earth, and beyond.

You are out of time.

Okay... Pursuer's here. He's floating with a sack full of swords, can rush us down. Pursuer will target Spike as highest priority. Red, grab the twins and use whatever means to get them to the designated safe zone for when we warp out. Spike will hopefully survive. Battering Ram, tarots, and Fireball will be our prime abilities in surviving, with Odin's Muse shot and Entrench as desperate last resort. Spike's main job will be dodging and weaving through the city streets and alley ways, if there's a dead end, use Battering Ram to maintain momentum and keep running. With luck we should be able to shake off the Pursuer, catch up with Red and the twins, and port off to another place far away from the Pursuer.

QM Questions-of-the-thread:
1) Opinions on the Twins?
2) The Pursuer, terrifying or mildly annoying?
3) What would you like to see happen?
>>
>>40253596
What happened to the other Muses? I can assume since Odin's Muse shot still exists that Odin's still out there.
>>
>>40253679
They're as alive as divine, supernatural beings can be.

To be fair, tired but alive.

You'll hear from them a lot more:
- the more often you use muse shots
- after the Pursuer and Invasion of Orre arc
>>
>>40253669
It's terrifying when you know it's coming and the spoiler messages of the Pursuer's ETA ratchets up the tension. But I can't help but feel annoyed that each action we take we have to do a dc for the Pursuer speeding up progress in finding Spike and a low roll will almost instantly make Spike drop what he's doing and clear a pursuit chase sequence in order to make it go away and reset himself back to what he was going to do.
>>
>>40253669
I got it, I know who Red is
Our never-to-be daughter
Or dead daughter
Either-or
Also on the Twins, I suggest to tone it down just a teeny-tiny bit
>>
>>40253669
On the other hand, the fact that the Pursuer targets us because of the blank tarot, the dcs are sensible enough for it to be there as a mechanic in which we have to roll for how much time we have left before we have to prepare for another pursuer encounter.
