Note: Rules for dice rolls have been updated to emphasize that for actions, players will first vote on the action and -then- roll 1d100s after I ask them to. I will take the first 3 rolls and determine the pass/fail in a best-of-three basis. If at least one of the two pass/fails are a crit, then the action is a crit.

Last time, on Star Dust Quest...

A weird milk run turns into a complicated one with you confronting shady individuals in the station's loading bay, and then getting your butt kicked by a supersoldier in power armour. Alas, you didn't go down without a fight, and you put up a surprisingly impressive display of explosions and fire. If only the ladies could see...

Upon your return to the Feedbacker, you finally met your new crew member, Slash Singer. So far, he seems simple enough, and his Irish accent doesn't do much to inflate his feared-hacker image.

“Details?” Slash says, turning his face your way. “I like details. Mind filling a lad in?”

Subconsciously, you feel the (albeit negligable) weight of the datachip in your right pocket. You did hire Slash as a means to crack the thing, but you did find this thing on an abandoned Federation research facility in the middle of space.

Meanwhile, Troy had finished pushing a rather heavy computer terminal in place. Upon receiving an approving nod from Slash, Troy wipes his brow and gives the two of you a nod.

“I think I'm gonna go check on the engines,” he says, his chest heaving somewhat.

>”Sure thing, Troy. I think we're going to take off soon, so be prepared to fire them up when I tell you to.”
>”Sure thing, Slash. I found this datachip that I can't seem to get cracked open, and judging from your profile, you're good at this sort of thing.”
>”I'll fill you in on those details later, Slash.”

I find it weird that the pilot isn't the one controlling the engines.
>>
>>40450845
I haven't really set it in stone, but I see it as the guy in the engine room is the person who determines the level that the engines are running at. The pilots are the people who control the actual speed of the ship, based on the amount of energy given by the engine.
>>
>>40450640
”Sure thing, Troy. I think we're going to take off soon, so be prepared to fire them up when I tell you to,” you tell him, receiving a nod.

“What's next on the list, Gavin?” he asks.

“We're gonna be delivering some dunebuggies to some Blackhawk mercs on Ragnarok.”

“Sounds good.” Giving the two of you one last nod, he leaves the room, his heavy footsteps echoing down the hallways of the ship. With him gone, Slash walks over to the computer terminals and turns them on. You walk over beside him to see what he's looking at, but you can't really decipher what he's analyzing. Probably system specs and tools.

“Is it adequate?” you ask, hoping you bought the right equipment for him.

“Actualy, yeah. This looks all fine--not the best I've worked with, but definitely robust.”

“So, Slash--Pete?--I found this datachip that I can't seem to get cracked open,” you say, sliding your hand into your pocket and picking out the small datachip. “Judging from your profile, you're good at this sort of thing.” Slash takes the datachip into his fingertips and raises it to his eyes, curiously. “Do you think you'd be ready to work as soon as we take off?”

“Ah, everything's set up already, pretty much,” he says, placing the datachip on the desk in front of him. “You bought the right equipment, so I should be good. I'll see what I can do about the datachip.”

“Good, let me know of your findings. Also, I'd hate to have our comms scrambled again.”

“I'll be sure of it, lad.”

With that, you exit the room and make your way over to the ship's cockpit. However, upon turning a corner, you nearly bump into a head full of red hair. Ley'ra lets out a little yelp and hops back, and you stumble.
>>
>>40451141
“Sorry, I didn't see you there,” she apologizes, her eyes wide.

“No problem, Ley'ra. I tend to bump into a lot of people on this ship,” you laugh. “How're you feeling?”

She takes a moment to process what you just said, blinking her cocoa eyes in the process. “Oh, I think I'm okay,” she says, dipping her chin. “How about you?”

“Beaten up, but otherwise good.” Your body's pretty sore, you think. It might have been a virtual sword that stabbed through you, but you think you feel the pain still lingering.

“Oh yeah... what was that about getting beaten up by an Apoc?”

“Ah, Locust. Yeah, I had to fight him to get one of the items for the contract.”

“Really?”

“In the V-R room, yeah. I almost got him, too.”

“Wow, really?”

“Yup. He's actually a pretty cool guy, though.” You pause. “If a bit weird.”

“I had a question, Ley'ra,” you ask, noticing her posture straighten up. She must not get asked many questions.

“Oh?”

“About the Cerberus Legion. What can you tell me about them?”

This time she blinks in confusion before realizing what you had just asked. She looks off to the side, her eyelids lowered in thought. After a moment of silence, she speaks.

“Okay... well, we were a security organization in the Syndicate. Mostly internal, I guess you could say we were the ones who tried to keep the peace. We were one of the smaller ones, but we had the best equipment and most disciplined people--that made us one of the best. In contrast, there was the Seven Hounds... one of the largest. And they were from a more pirate background. We... didn't like them very much.” She pauses, her breathing notably heavier. You give her an encouraging nod and smile, which she returns. “So... towards the end of the Federation assault, our commanders started to fight. Some of us brought up the idea of contacting the Blackhawk Elite to give us a ceasefire, since they always looked at us in a good light. But by now, we had lost two of our three battleships along with most of our high-ups. When Captain My'hra Jos was assumed commander, she took most of us with them and escaped. I was... late, and didn't make it. From what I understand, most of them got away.”

You give her a respectful nod. “If you don't mind me asking, where do you think they politically stand?”

“Mm... last I heard before I got out of the system, we did establish contact with the Blackhawks. I don't know what became of that, but I think that's really the last place for them to go.”

“That's strange. A Luos member becoming part of the Blackhawk Elite?”

“It is... but we did share their mentalities. On their branch rating system, we ranked an A, which is really good.”

“Wow. I'm glad to have one on my ship.”
>>
>>40451794
“They're... not really pleasant people to be around.”

“And this My'hra Jos person... what do you think of her?” you ask, remembering the name of the person linked to the contract.

She nods her head and her eyes wander to the right in thought, again. “My squad was under her platoon, and I think she was great. She cared a whole lot about us, but was disciplined. I think she's part of the reason why we have such a good reputation. Off duty, she's... relaxed. They were like family to me. I... was displaced for most of my life, and they made me feel like I mattered. I don't think all of them survived the assault, but I can only hope that some of them are out there..."

You put a hand on her shoulder, surprising her. She turns to you with her signature wide-eyed stare. “Thanks, Ley'ra. That gives me a lot of insight in case we come across... anything.”

Her eyes and posture relax, and you feel her shoulder ease in your hand. She gives you a smile and nod.

From what you recall, the Cerberus contract was a delivery job to a planet named Faraday...

“So, Ley'ra, did you know that the Cerberus Legion had a contract out?” you ask, raising your smart-ring. Her eyebrow quirks, and then her eyes widen.

“Th... they do? Could I see it?” she asks, her eyes moving towards your wrist. You browse through the station's contracts to find it, showing it to her on a small hologram projection.

She takes a moment to read it over, and then again. She doesn't realize it, but as she leans in to get a better look, she begins to press into you. After a quick tap on her shoulder, she yelps and flinches back.

You can't help but give a small laugh. “What do you think, Ley'ra? Should we take it?”

“I...” Her breathing is hard, and her eyes look anxious. “I would like it if we could. Um... if you wouldn't mind, that is.”

“Okay. Her eyes harden as she reads this one, and when she looks to you, her brows are furrowed.

“Actually, it sounds like it would be pretty difficult. I don't think we could take it on with our current equipment; we might need to get better weapons.” You close the hologram and let her continue. “But I think that by the time we get there after our next contract, we might have enough funds. “Yes, Gavin?”

“Slash Singer. Or, Pete. What do you think of him?” you ask, and she nods her head knowingly.

"Hey, what kind of captain would I be if I didn't care for my crew?" you say, giving her a pat on the shoulder.

“Okay, Gavin.” She smiles again. “You're a good Captain.”

“Thanks, Ley'ra. I try.” You step back. “I gotta get to the cockpit, let the crew know what we're doing next.”

“See you later.”

“Mhm.”

Finally, you step past her and navigate through your ship towards the cockpit. When you finally make it there, you take a seat on the left pilot's chair and pick up the cockpit's microphone.

“Uh, testing?” you say, hesitantly. The sound of your voice coming from the hallways alerts you that the mic is indeed working. Meanwhile, you tap a few options onto the destination planner to get your route going. “Oh. Yeah, uh, this is Gavin. We're going to be taking off soon and our next destination is on the planet of Ragnarok. It's 13 jumps away, and according to the planner here, that should be... seven hours? Anyways, Ivan, if you can hear this, please come to the cockpit. Troy, get ready to fire up the engines when I tell you to. We'll leave once we receive the cargo we're going to be dropping off at Faraday after our next contract, as well.”

You turn off the mic and wait a few minutes, looking around the cockpit. Apparently, Ivan has a tiny stuffed cartoon whale on the desk beside his chair. Loud footsteps alert you to someone approaching, and sure enough, Ivan pops into the cockpit.

“I didn't know you liked whales,” you say with your eyes still on the stuffed animal.

“Ah, this? It is my comrade, Leznov,” he laughs, taking a seat. “I see you have route planned. I assume we are going to Blackhawk territory.”

“Yup, our next delivery's to them. And then after that, Faraday.”

“Ah! Faraday, you say?” he says, his voice drawled out and curious. “That has been deserted planet for awhile. I believe only Dustkeepers are there, now.”
>>
>>40453317
Right, hug her. That makes her stay in the crew for sure.
>>
>>40453367
“Yup, and Ley'ra's Cerberus Legion. We're delivering supplies to them.”

“Is that what the eight tons of cargo is for?” he asks while flicking a few switches.

“Yup. Do you know it arrived, yet?”

“Actually, Viktor, Troy and I just finished loading into cargo bay. We're ready to go.”

“Sweet! I guess we can tell Troy to fire it up, then,” you say, reaching for the mic again. With it turned on, you speak, “Alright Troy, let's get going.”

A moment passes until you feel the entire ship shake, the engines being brought to life. After a quick look to Ivan, he grasps the stick in front of him and takes the ship off of the hangar floor.

“I forgot to tell you that we are also going to be helping out the Dustkeepers with their mutant infestation,” you chime in. Ivan begins to manoeuvre the ship, taking it out of the hangar and down the wide tunnels of the Freeport station, taking you towards the air lock.

“I am going to guess on their Unfound base, am I correct?” he says, his eyes forwards.

“Yes, actually. Do you know anything about it?”

“Not too much, only that the Dustkeepers made the base a few years back for research. Which... brings me to a question, comrade.”

“Shoot.”
>>
>>40453317
I totally get that, but the difference is that she's only been with Gavin a few days compared to the Cpt in the smut who have fought together for a long while/had a crush on for a long time ya know?

“A lot of Dustkeepers deal with... Herald artifacts. Mana tech. And Comet... she is a curious girl...” he says, his voice a little on edge. You find yourself perked up.

“What of her?” you ask, curious to what he has to say.

“I think it would be good if we ask the Dustkeepers what she is about,” he says while the ship makes it to the air lock. The humongous airlock door closes, encasing your ship and one other frigate before the opposite doors open, letting you out into space. “If we are searching for answers, I think they are most likely to know them. Maybe they know something about this Harbinger, or this Legion.”

“And I value them highly.”

You decide to go find Comet, first. However, a quick look in the lounge confirms she's not there anymore, and checking the mess hall yields no results, as well. Upon passing by the gun deck, you see her inside, talking with Viktor.

“Hey guys, how's it going?” you ask as you walk into the tall room. Both of them turn to you.

“Ah, Gavin. I was just showing Comet around the gun deck,” he says, gesturing to the room. “She's going to be helping out here, yes?”

“That she is,” you say, smiling to her. She smiles back. “Which is why we got a particle blaster.”

“Interesting. Good weapon for getting close and hitting hard, I hope you know how to use it,” he says, turning to her.

“It shouldn't be too hard. I can figure out weapon systems pretty easily,” Comet responds.

“Good! It shouldn't be too hard, I can walk you through it.”

“That would be great.”

“How adequate is our ship weapons now, Viktor?” you ask, curious to see what he has to say.

“Very good,” he says, adjusting his hat. “Two autocannons ensures nothing gets close, a light particle blaster to hit hard close, and an artillery cannon to hit like a hammer from far. Overall, very balanced.”

“That's good to hear, I hope you can keep us safe.”

“Leave it to us, Gavin,” he says, giving you a little bow. Comet smiles.

“Comet, I'm going to ask something of you regarding what we're getting into, next. I suppose I could fill you in as well, Viktor.” Viktor gives you a nod, and Comet gives you a curious look, but nods as well. “Alright... so, after our delivery to the Blackhawks, we're heading over to Faraday. It's a planet in the middle of nowhere, but we're going to make another delivery there to Ley'ra's Cerberus Legion. And after that, we'll be helping out the Dustkeepers.”

At that, Viktor tilts his head back in realization. Comet still seems in the dark, but you continue.
>>
>>40454274
“So... the Dustkeepers are basically people who go around the galaxy to find artifacts. To explore, and they find a lot of interesting things. According to Ivan, namely Herald and mana tech,” you say, shooting a look to Viktor.

“He's not wrong, they deal with things many people have never seen before,” he confirms.

“Right. Anyways, Ivan proposed that we ask them about your... situation.” Comet seems to realize what you're asking of her now, and she nods her head slightly. “I think that these are the most trustful people to go to about these questions, but I want to ask you if you're okay if we... bring you to them. I assure you that we won't let any harm come to you, I just want to see if they have any answers.”

Comet dips her head a little in thought, and you can see that she more or less seems uncomfortable from her straight posture. You think you would be too, but there isn't much you can do. Regardless, after closes her eyes and takes in a deep breath, she looks to you with a determined look.

“Okay. I'd like to, since you both think they would hold any answers. I would like to know about... this stuff, too,” she says, nodding her head. You nod back and look to Viktor, who follows suit.

“Okay, it's settled. Once we get to the Dustkeepers, we'll see what they have to say. They're most likely to have answers.” You take notice of Comet's uncomfortable posture--undoubtedly, this is all going to be pretty hard on her. You don't blame her. “Viktor, if you could, could you fill her in on what the Dustkeepers are like?

“Of course, I suspect we'll be spending some time together, anyways.”

“Thanks, Viktor.”

“I'm gonna go check up on our other crew. See you both later,” you say, giving both of them a wave before disappearing from the room. As soon as you leave, you hear Viktor resume his coaching.

Now, it's time to find the ship medic. It doesn't take you long to navigate to the infirmary, but when you get there, you see Beth sitting down against the wall next to the infirmary entrance. She's stroking Bethany beside her, who's eating cat food from a small bowl.

“Hi, Beth,” you say, earning her attention. The cat ignores you and continues to eat her food. “Looks like she's getting her food, fine.”

“She is,” Beth says, only a little disgruntled at her nickname. “She's surprisingly active for a cat.”

“Do you know how old she is?”

“No idea. Definitely on the young side.”

“I see.” You step over to the other side of the food bowl and sit down, watching Bethany eat all the while. “So, what did you do with all the condom boxes?”

“I stuffed them all in the cargo bay for now. I have a bunch of them in the infirmary cupboards, but honestly, I'm sure these are going to expire before... all of them get used.”

“That sounds like a challenge.”

“I'm from Arcadia U. I've seen it happen.” She stops patting the cat and rests her arms on her laps.

“Speaking of, how are you finding the whole being-a-part-of-a-ship-crew thing?” you ask, reaching over to scritch Bethany's ears. The cat arcs her back at your touch, but continues eating.
>>
>>40455443
“Actually, this is surprisingly pleasant,” she says, leaning her head back against the wall and looking up at the ceiling. “Relaxed. I'm sure it will escalate if things get more... intense, but as this is my first job and all, I'm pretty sure that this will carry the contents of my resume. I hope I can get enough experience to impress for future jobs."

“Huh. I guess we better do some crazy stuff, then.”

“Well, considering we only just got together for two days, we've done a whole lot of shit.”

“Hah.”

“I'm gonna go get some sleep. Take care of Bethany, alright?” you say to Beth as you stand up, giving yourself a little stretch.

“It's Starburst,” she grunts, but you wave a hand.

“You should rest, too. I suspect that things could get a little tiresome for awhile, soon.”

You leave the hallway and head towards the back of the ship where the crew quarters are. However, as you turn the bend that takes you to the hallway for the crew quarters, you catch Ley'ra walking out of her room with a toothbrush in her mouth, wearing shorts and a beige t-shirt. Her handgun holster is still fastened to her waist, with her pistol fastened inside. Upon seeing you, she pauses and blushes.

“Going to sleep?” you ask, a smile on your face. She takes in a breath to speak, but her foamy mouth prevents her from speaking. Instead, she simply nods her head. “Yeah, me too. We're gonna need the rest.”

“Mm. I fworghot--” She stops herself, taking the toothbrush out of her mouth. “I forgot my rifle in the arsenal.”

You shrug. “Huh. Alright then,” you say, giving her a nod as she walks past you. With that encounter out of the way, you continue on towards your room. However, you can't help but peak into her room while passing by. Nothing seems out of the ordinary other than her clothes strewn about her bed and a glass of water on the nightstand.

Finally, you get to your room. You take off your jacket and throw it on the chair by the desk, kicking off your shoes in the process. After unholstering your revolver and unfastening the sash, you collapse onto your bed with your face down onto the soft pillow. With your hands behind your back, you unclasp your smart-ring from your wrist and place it on the nightstand. Slowly, you roll your head to look at the far side of the room, your closet still open from the fiasco, earlier. You sigh and finally let your eyes rest, sleep overtaking your sore body pretty quickly.

---
>>
>>40456520
A knock on your door nearly rouses you from your sleep, but not quite. It stirs you, but you don't budge. When the knock comes again, it's a little harder, causing your eyelids to twitch open.

“Yeah...! Yeah, I'm up,” you yell, raising an arm to your face. After a sigh, you turn your head to find Bethany sleeping beside you. How the cat got in here, you have no idea. Regardless, you give the cat a few scritches and get up from your bed, letting her sleep. After a quick getting-ready routine, you move to open the door to your room to come face to face with Troy.

“Hi Troy, are we at Ragnarok?” you ask.

“Almost. Ivan told me to go wake you up. Bethany's just getting up as well,” he says, stepping back to let you out.

“Did you get some rest, too?”

“A little. I'm an early riser, though.”

“Cool. And the others?”

“They're all up, except Ley'ra.”

“She's still asleep?” you ask, your eyes shooting over to her door that's adjacent to yours.

“Yeah. I was gonna wake her up next.”

Well to be fair, waifufaggotry is a pretty big part of the StarDust CYOA. Even SDA indulges into it a little. And I know I certainly do.
>>
At this rate give everyone a trip to prevent samefagging
>>
>>40457118
Oh and by the way, you probably need to realize any interaction with a female isn't waifufaggotry.
Go back to /r9k/ or stop being a paranoid motherfucker without a sense of humour.

Seriously, the fucking balls of some idiots.
>>
>>40457209
There's only 3 reasons to support a fucking support vote.
1: You're retarded
2: You don't how the board rules/culture works
3: You're a samefag

I always assume the simplest and worst of people. So I'm assuming you're samefagging.

>>40457241
>>40457209
>>40457286

I'm not saying they're both the same person. The person who's supporting a "support" vote is trying to put as many votes in for his side as possible, even when they make no fucking sense, to make appear like his side has a larger amount of support than it does.

lrn2chan faggots.
>>
>>40457118
I'm not so much voting on that for wifu shit. More I'm voting on it because I'm a fan of comedy and prodding the bear can be fun
>>
>>40457256
Not him, and I don't have problems with waifufaggotry in general, but is it necessary to literally take every opportunity to fawn over the waifu? Give her some space from time to time, not keep ass-aulting her like a horny schoolboy.
>>

My opinion is he was supporting the mixing of both choices, but what do I know?
I agree he's retarded for doing it, but I can kind of understand what he was -trying- to do, maybe.

>>40457316
This isn't fawning over her, this is being a smart ass like Gavin has been known to do and will take like 2 seconds for some jollies before we hit the contract.
>>
>>40457316
Now that was my first thought as well, but then I figured that this is also the most entertaining choice and went with it. Waifufaggotry doesn't necessarily play into fucking around with your crew.
>>
>>40457316
Now you're just being salty, we didn't over-interact with her.
And this isn't for the sake of waifushit, jesus christ stop putting your own personal opinions into things.

I suggested one of the ideas, and my only intent is to cause bullshit fun because I like teasing, pranking and being a dickhead in general.

Fuck, if it pertained to me I'd be right now writing up a plan to get Ivan and Viktor unmasked or to have Bethany's I. data changed to Beth.

Is there any chance we can do some combat exercises with our squad before going into actual combat?
>>
>>40457734
I sure hope so. Because provided we finally deck ourselves out with proper weapons and equipment, there's still the whole other matter of most of our crew having little combat training and experience.

And speaking as a milfag, there's no way I'd head into any form of battle with a bunch of people I met only a few days ago without having at least done some review/practice of basic small unit tactics and shit.

Also, if SDA is looking for advice on military-type shit I'm free to help out, but just keep in mind I'm not infantry and I'm not American military.

“Hold on, Troy, I'm gonna wake her up,” you say, smiling at him. He simply quirks an eyebrow.

“Oh boy, this should be good,” he whispers to himself when he sees you walking towards her door.

Slowly, you open it, hoping to not rouse Ley'ra from her sleep. Peering in, you still see her in her bed, the blankets piled on top of her. Giving one last look to Troy, you walk in.

“Honey, come on, the kids will be late for school!” you exclaim. Immediately, Ley'ra shoots up from her bed, throwing the blankets off of her.

“Ah! What?!” Her eyes are wide and take a moment to adjust at the sight of you.

“One day married and we sleep in different rooms already!” Behind you, Troy breaks out in laughter.

“G-Gavin?!” She looks confused, but after realizing your words, her face flushes red.

“I'm not going to bring you breakfast to bed.”

“Gavin!” she yells, picking up her pillow and whipping it at you. She gets up from the bed and stomps over to you, causing you to back up.

“Why won't you look me in the eyes anymore!” you exclaim as she starts pushing you out of the room, a smile on your face. “It's the milkman, isn't it?!”

Ley'ra slams the door on your face. “It's your turn to bring them to school, today,” she grunts from behind her door.

You laugh, shaking your head and looking over to Troy.

“Shit, man. What was that?” he asks with a laugh.

The door next to Ley'ra's room opens, and Slash Singer pops out, all geared up and ready.

“Eh... what was that?”

“Nothing. Nothing to see here.” Without another word, you leave the hallway and your confused crew members, making it over to the front of the ship. You're surprised when you see Bethany leap past you, running through the halls of the ship to who-knows-where.

Upon finally getting to the cockpit, you're met with Ivan still sitting in his spot. Beside his stuffed whale is a glass of water.

“How's it holding up?” you ask as you enter.
>>
>>40458035
“Ah, comrade. Did you sleep well?” he asks.

“Quite well. How close are we to Ragnarok?” You take your own seat, squirming a little to get comfortable.

“We are almost there, actually. We just finished our last jump, and I would say we are less than ten minutes away from the planet. We already got a ping from their comms, I just had to tell them our purpose.”

“Alright. Did they ask of anything else in particular?”

“Not really. Only that we are to land in their base called Hel, is where we will meet our contact.”

“Okay. Looks like we're going in-atmosphere, then.”

“Yeah, but it is cloudy planet. Can not see the star from within.”

“Have you ever been on the surface of a planet before?”

He doesn't speak for a moment. With your eyes forward, you see your ship slow down from warp, and a giant, white planet immediately pops into view. It startles you with how close you are.

“No, I have not,” he answers. “This... will be my first time.”

“Ah, I assure you, walking on ground feels good after being in space for so long.”

“I cannot imagine how different it will be.”

You look over to the screen to your left, which has returned some of the statistics of Ragnarok.

“Mmh, looks like Ragnarok's gravity is slightly heavier than New Terra. Not terribly so.”

“Is that a good or bad thing?”

“Neither. I suppose the Blackhawks just like heavier environments for training, though.”

“I can imagine.”

“Do you have the coordinates of the base?”

“Yes, comrade,” he says, pressing something on the screen next to him. A 3D display of the planet pops out of the screen and a green marker is placed on a single point of its surface.

“How will atmosphere entry be?”

Ivan looks back to the screen. “Ah, we have Talon gyrotech with the engines, comrade. I imagine it will be smooth as anything.”
>>
>>40457995
kek
Thankfully not, since I cannot into musical instruments.
>>
>>40458064
“Good, but I think I'll let the crew know that we're entering atmosphere anyways,” you say, picking up the mic. Ivan nods. “Alright crew, we're going to be entering Ragnarok's atmosphere very soon. It shouldn't be too rocky, but I would suggest you to find something to hold onto anyways.”

You turn off the mic and look over to Ivan who gives you a nod. Immediately, he brings the ship to a dive towards the planet. When it seems like you're accelerating to an incredible speed, you realize that it's the planet's gravity that's pulling you in. A look to Ivan confirms that he knows what he's doing, so you reassure yourself and lean back into the chair.

Swathes of flame start to form at the front of the ship, the atmosphere becoming dense enough for friction to show its presence. You're surprised when you break through the first layer of thin clouds, bringing you into what seems like a large, clear layer of air before the next set of clouds. As the ship descends almost violently, you're surprised to find that the shaking doesn't feel bad as you thought it would be.

“Okay, now is time when we point the ship upward a little. We must use our main engines to fight the gravity,” he says, his grip tightening on the stick in front of him. Before entering the next cloud layer, Ivan manages to turn the nose of the ship so you're now adjacent to the clouds, putting as much thrust into the engines as he can. You soon find that the ship has slowed its descent, and is now moving in a lateral movement. Just like an airplane. Now safe in the atmosphere, Ivan dives the plane through the cloud layer.
>>
>>40458091
Several blind minutes pass as you fly through the thick clouds. You almost think you're lost when you break through and you can see the snowy ground below. Far in each direction, the planet seems to be a tundra, snow patches everywhere with permafrost taking up the majority of the terrain. It looks mostly flat, perfect for riding a dunebuggy.

That's when a bored, monotonous voice comes over your comms.

“You are approaching the Blackhawk Hel Base. Please state your business.”

”We're here for a delivery job. Someone ordered two all-terrain dunebuggies from Freeport and hasn't gotten them in, so we're delivering it now,” you state. The man on the other end goes silent for a second before he speaks again, this time not sounding so monotonous.

“Hah, so they finally brought it in? Very well, when you get here, please land on landing pad G7.”

“Thank you,” you respond. “Do you know someone by the name of Dani Laine? She's our contact.”

“Oh boy. Yeah, she's here, alright. I'll notify her of your presence.”

“Alright,” you say before the channel closes

“Wow... is like completely different world,” Ivan comments, his eyes scanning the horizon. You don't think he's ever seen a horizon in person, before. At least not this close to a planet. “I feel like I cannot see anything anymore. And at the same time, it is... far.”

“Wait till you get to the ground,” you laugh.

Several minutes pass by as you fly through the atmosphere until you finally see Hel base below. Ivan brings the ship to circle around it before bringing it closer.

The base is medium in size, enough to house a platoon or two. Almost a third of the base is nothing but landing pads, and you see large numbers and letters painted on top. Ivan takes you to the one labeled G7.

From up here, it seems like the base is rather... empty. Most of the landing pads are void of a ship, save for a stray dropship or two. They're much smaller than your ship, but thankfully, G7 seems large enough to accommodate your frigate.
>>
>>40458536
With the cargo loading bay on the back-right of the ship, Ivan makes sure to land it so it points towards a ramp from the landing pad that leads down into the base, and into a hangar.

“Okay, I'm gonna go down,” you say, getting up from your seat. You turn to Ivan. “You coming?”

“Of course, I want to walk on ground! I will be right behind you, comrade.”

“Alright.”

Who will you bring with you to meet your contact?

Just caught up, and I must say I'm pleasantly surprised that we were not hounded by those mercs/smugglers that we got into a stand-off with from the Patch contract while in transit to this place.

It really depends on the meeting, and not everyone has to be with you 100% of the time. But you aren't limited to stuff like "2 companions at any given time". If you need you can take everyone into combat for instance.

Operation Gavin's Eleven is go!
>>
>>40458560
You leave the cockpit and make your way to the airlock. On your way there, you come across Troy and Ley'ra.

“Hey guys, we're about to make the delivery,” you say, waving them down. They both stop in front of you. “If you could, Troy, go down to the cargo and help get the dunebuggies out, alright?”

“Sure,” he replies.

“And Ley'ra, you're with me. I'm going to bring Viktor and Ivan, as well.”

“Okay,” she responds with a nod. As you're about to continue walking, Viktor, Comet and Slash come up to the two of you.

“Gavin, what would you like us to do?” Viktor asks with Comet behind him.

“Actually, Viktor, I'm bringing you, Ley'ra and Ivan with me to meet the contact. Comet, you can stay on the ship if you'd like... I hate to say it, but try not to get seen. We don't know how these guys will react.”

“I understand,” she says, nodding her head knowingly.

“And Pete, how's the progress on the datachip?” you ask, turning to him. At your words, his mouth curls into a smirk.

“I'm impressed, actually,” he says, nodding. “The datachip has quite a few layers of encryption, but nothing I can't get through.”

“Good. How long will that take you?”

“Several hours from now, I've gotten through the worst steps of the ultra-encryption-standard. Primitive stuff, but they've used it in conjunction with a whole lot of other modules.”

“As long as you can get through, that's fine. Keep at it.”

“I will.”

“Alright, let's go,” you say, turning to Ley'ra and Viktor. “Ivan should meet us outside--it'll be his first time on planetary ground.”

You leave with your two crew members following behind you. When you get close to the airlock, you feel a chilly breeze swathe past you, but you press on. When you get to the exit, you see it already open with the ramp deployed. At the bottom, Ivan is there, standing at the very edge of the metal ramp.
>>
>>40459229
Shrugging at Viktor, you walk down and step beside Ivan.

“So? How are you holding up?” you ask. Ivan takes in a deep breath through his nose, turning his head towards you.

“I have been in really big stations before, comrade. But this...” He turns his head to the sky, then he looks to the horizon far in front of you. Grey skies surround you in every direction and the tundra permafrost gives a dead feeling to the landscape, but Ivan looks like the happiest man in the world. “I feel like I am going to fall upwards. Or forwards, like it will suck me in.”

Viktor laughs and comes up from behind, patting Ivan on the back. “Come on, friend. It's best you get used to it.”

Ivan looks down and reluctantly lifts his right boot. Slowly, he lowers it, until he steps onto the landing pad.

“Congratulations, you're now on the landing pad,” Viktor laughs again.

“I am making progress!” Ivan rebuttals. You share a laugh with them.

“Alright, I'm going to go check on the cargo bay, see how Troy's doing with the buggies.”

“We will wait for you here,” Viktor says, both him and Ley'ra watching Ivan's attempts at re-learning how to walk with amusement.

You leave the group and circle the ship to the cargo bay. There, you find a few Blackhawk soldiers and workers conversing with Troy. One man drives a little towing vehicle up your cargo bay ramp, presumably to retrieve the first of the buggies. Troy breaks off from the group and walks up to you.

“Hi, Gavin,” he says. “The buggies have been unlocked, and they're now being unloaded.”

“Good. I just came in to see how it was going.”

“We've got it under control. Also, they've got a market here. They might have some good stuff to browse for.”

“Thanks for the heads up, I might actually give it a look.”

Well, to the best of my knowledge, larger units indicate more specialization in the unit. Whereas due to their position and nature I would imagine the Blackhawks to be more flexible, which would indicate smaller units. It's like US vs. Canada military organization, neither is better just geared towards different situations.
>>
>>40459254
You leave Troy to his work and circle around the ship again. When you get back to the other side, you don't see any of your crew members there. You look back to the ship entrance, but then you decide to walk over to the edge of the platform. Sure enough, there at the bottom of the ramp are your crew members.

Ley'ra and Viktor are both standing off to the side while watching Ivan... lie down on one of the snow banks. Sighing to yourself, you walk down and come up beside Ley'ra.

“What's he doing now?” you ask, your voice low.

“He's experimenting,” Viktor whispers back. “Said something about reading books and watching documentaries about becoming one with nature.”

“I don't think that's how it works.”

When Ivan begins to flap his arms and legs in an attempt to make snow angels, Viktor moves his hands up to massage his eyebrows.

You lean in towards Ley'ra. “Told you the kids would like it,” you whisper, earning yourself a rather painful punch to the shoulder. Sometimes you forget she's a military girl.

After Ivan decides he's become one with nature, he gets up and the four of you head out into Hel Base proper. After asking for directions from a uniformed bored looking man sitting alone beneath a basketball net, you head towards what looks like a two-story office building. Upon entering, you're met with a uniformed bored looking woman sitting behind a crude, metal desk. She looks up to you and speaks in a monotonous tone.

“Hi. How can I help you?” she asks.

“Hi, I'm Gavin Ashworth. We're looking for Dani Laine?” you ask, leaning up against the rather tall desk. The woman blinks and then shrugs.

“Hum, she could be anywhere. Just... follow the yelling.”

“Yelling?” You pause and let the room go silent. That's when you hear a rather loud voice from a room down the hall to your right.

“Come on! You're leaving, too?!” you hear a woman's voice echo across the building. Yup, must be her. “But, everyone's gone! Who's gonna deal with the rats? Me?... Fuck! But... Yes, I know. I know. Still, we've got... ugh! Whatever.”

Looking down the hall, you see one of the metal doors nearly bust open, and out walks a woman clad in mercenary gear.

“Piece of shit,” she mutters to herself, her eyes on the ground as she stomps towards the room you're in.

“Dani,” the woman behind the desk calls, her monotonous tone not failing her. “These people--”

“Can fuck off,” she snaps, looking up. “Oh, shit, sorry. Who are you?”

>”Hello to you, too.”
>”My name's Gavin Ashworth. I'm here to deliver those buggies you ordered?”
>”That's not very nice.”
>”I think we'll keep those buggies for ourselves, then.”

Just a heads up, I'm going to bring this session to a close soon. Sorry for the inconvenience.

The name's Ashworth, Gavin Ashworth.

Once again, I'll have to keep that in mind. Thanks, I'll try to make better measurements in the future.

Both are fine. I'm customizing my Fallout New Vegas radio stations, getting in the groove for Fallout 4. I need something to play for when shit hits the fan; when the enclave start landing vertibirds, the deathclaws pop out and eat your companions, or you walk into Caesar's camp with noting but a few stimpacks, a Lemat .44 cal, and a baller trenchcoat.

You stare at the girl for a moment before finding your voice. “Uh, hello to you, too.”

“Hey, I'm sorry. I'm just... a little riled up, is all,” she apologizes, biting her lower lip. She eyes all four of you.

“Okay. My name's Gavin Ashworth. I'm here to deliver those buggies you ordered.”

“Hah,” she guffaws, her eyes closing. “Hahah... Eugh. Come with me,” she says, gesturing towards the exit of the building. She gives a glance to the woman at the desk before leading you and your group out. Upon getting outside, she leads you to onto the main road that goes down along the base. Large hangars and two-story buildings flank each side, but there doesn't seem to be many people around. Dani stops in front of a small concrete wall.

“So, what's this about?” you ask, your head panning across the empty base.

“Okay, so,” she says, hopping up and sitting on the wall, facing you. “Have you been keeping up with the news, lately?”

You glance over to your crew, but they all give you shrugs. “I can't say we have. We've been...” Images of hangovers and getting your ass kicked by Locust flashes in front of your eyes. “...Busy.”

“Okay.” Dani nods her head, knowingly. “So, the Fire Legion finally fucked out of their shithole,” she says with spite dripping from her words. Fire Legion? “Brought a huuuge fleet with them. Nobody knows where they came from. Smashed right against our blockade in front of the Valhalla sovereignty. People say they had a shitton of ships. They weren't stopped until halfway through the sovereignty, and now everything's turned to shit.”

You take a moment to absorb the information, and you can take the silence of your companions to be of shock. You know that a Blackhawk blockade usually consists of at least a battleship. One this far out in the outer rims? Definitely something more stout.
>>
>>40460776
“Yup. So, they've called for a massive retaliation--they're taking all the armadas they can get. They're going to secure the perimeter around the Fire Legion's sovereignty first, but to do that they're pulling people from everywhere. Even from here. And, as you can see...” she says, gesturing to the empty base around you. Before she turns back to you, her eyes briefly glance over to Ley'ra in particular. “...They've taken nearly everyone. We've still got a good amount here on Ragnarok, but most of them are in the main base at Thor. We're just an outpost for who gives a shit on this shitty planet.”

Slowly, you nod your head. “And... what does that have to do with us?” you ask.

“Well, I ordered two buggies, right?” she asks, earning a nod from you. “Well, most of the platoons here are gone Half my platoon is at Thor doing I don't know. We were going to use the buggies to flush out some rats, but we obviously can't really do that now.”

“Wait, so what about the deal we had?”

“Ah, don't worry, I'll take the buggies. We just... kinda won't have a use for them.” Her eyes wander down to the cemented floor, her posture looking downcast. “Maybe we can pass the time doing donuts, or something.”

“Huh. And... rats?”

“Ah, yes.” She looks back up to you. “We call them rats. Pirates.”

“Interesting.”

“But yeah, ever since Luos split, some of their remnants took hold up everywhere.” You see Dani glance over to Ley'ra again, albeit briefly. “We've been trying to clean them up. I don't know why, but a few of them decided to come here. They've been conducting raids on us for the past few months. Took us awhile but we finally scouted them out to a cave network several kilometers from here”

That's when Ley'ra steps forward and speaks up. “Do you know which Luos group they are from?” she asks. You almost hold your breath, but you feel confident that Ley'ra can hold her own. At her words, Dani smiles like a cat.
>>
>>40460805
“Heh, I was waiting for you to say something,” she says, looking straight at her, now. “So, what's your story?”

Ley'ra looks to you for approval, and you give her a slight nod.

“I'm from the Cerberus Legion,” she says. You see one of her hands balled up into a fist--she must be at the end of her wits right now, being out here alone.

“Oh, wow. I wasn't expecting that.” Dani's eyes seem to soften at this, widening. “They're Seven Hounds, without a doubt.”

Now, Ley'ra's face sours up, her brows lowering. “Hmph, I worked with them before.”

“Have you?” Dani asks, genuinely interested. She hops down from the wall. “And now you're fighting them, aren't you?”

“We... we are?” Ley'ra stutters, blinking. “I was separated from the Legion before they escaped. I got out to Stardust and work independently under Gavin, now.”

“Huh. So you guys are out of the loop. Yes, your Cerberus Legion has officially announced their severance, and last I heard, the Hounds listed you as hostile. I tell you, we tried getting you guys to join us, but your commander seems to be resisting.”

“Captain My'hra?”

“Yeah, her. You guys have weird names.” Dani turns to you. “So... you all look able-bodied. I have a proposal; how do you all feel about joining a raid on some rats? I'll double the pay, and even let you ride one of the buggies.”

We completed the contract we were given, and if we're going to get in a fight, some dosh to gear up with would be good

Let's get some things straight: nobody's going to fight armed people on their territory without good protection. We can't allow anybody to go into battle wearing flak jackets. Either they rent us their armor (or we buy it from them) or we're not going.

Am I right in assuming you're done when the thread dies, SDA?

Can we ask for looting rights, or a share of the loot?

Payment for the shipment.

You look to your companions, who all look back to you. Since you can't really read expressions through Viktor and Ivan's masks, you look to Ley'ra, who seems to be giving you an encouraging smile. Seems like she's been wanting to kick Hound butt for awhile, now.

“Alright, we'll do it. But, I would like to receive the payment for the shipment, it would help for us to gear up for this.”

Dani nods her head. “Fair enough, I'll send you the 120k ASAP. I'll go get my squad together, and we'll leave in an hour or two, yeah? I wanna hit them sooner than later.”

“Sounds good.”
