You have always wanted to be an emperor. That ambition has burned dimly in the past, tempered by reality. Now the opportunity to realise your ambition has arrived and you are determined not to let it slip. Now is the time to build your empire and become an emperor.

Last Thread: You are Imperator Talon York and you rule your own small empire, but you are not yet the emperor you dream of being… yet. Last thread you had some very interesting encounters with an archangel.

Rolls are d20 and the best of the first three posters. I may sometimes ask for more dice to be rolled by each player, but same rules apply otherwise. Please quote the post you are voting for or rolling against. Note there are hard-to-replace points that can be used to offset failures in rolls. Date: Very early morning on March 25th, 1961PC

You woke with a start to find yourself surrounded by shouted orders and booming confirmations. At first you thought you were on a battlefield, but the soft bed beneath you and the naked archmage cuddled up to you suggested otherwise. A sending flickered in front of your eyes as you began to rise from your bed, which caused you to freeze.

The door boomed several times as a plated gauntlet hammered on it from the other side. “Imperator Talon, there are intruders in the castle!” shouts Lieutenant Trask.

You had already seen the sending and were in the process of throwing on the bare minimum to be able to repel whatever nuisance had been foolish enough to assault you in your own Dominion. As your mind scanned through the fortress, you realised that there wasn’t such an easy way of identifying intruders – everything you were finding suggested there were only TYE mage-knights and knights in the building. The door banged again and you checked that Alyce had at least put on enough to be decent, even if she was noticeably groggy.

“This is easier when Merce is around,” she grumbles as she fastens her bra. “Your men seem very frenetic for a lockdown.”

“It’s not a lockdown,” you growl. “Lieutenant, you may enter.”

Alyce squeaks as she hears the order before mostly just grumbling and continuing the get dressed. Trask almost slams the door open as he and his immediate subordinate surge into the room, checking that you’re okay and that nobody else in here is harmed. Then he freezes as he catches the still largely undressed archmage. You take the opportunity to glance out the window, noting that the walls are lit up and bustling with activity, particularly the bastions. As are the noble wards, especially the Griffin guildhouse. A dozen griffin knights are charging across the courtyard to the keep, where a small mass of mage-knights keep guard.

“Lieutenant, who sent the first sending?” you say, forcing calmness into your mind as you continue to try to find out what was going on. There were a quite a few dead people and fighting on a number of floors, and it looked more like one of your men had turned on you.

“Corporal Wilmholt,” Trask answers, resuming a more professional look once you address him. “Though there have been intruders encountered elsewhere, too.”

The face comes to mind immediately and you ball your hands into fists.

“He’s the primary guard in the nursery wing. He looks after-“ Trask continues, unaware that you know full well who he guards.

The growl you emit is guttural and foul by your standards, but you were damnably angry. Whoever it was that had staged this attack had made their first attack on Sai and her brothers and you were not going to let that stand. You…

You take a deep breath and close your eyes, focusing your will on your Dominion. A cursory thought as to the state of the nursery wing showed that it was full of knights with their weapons drawn – they didn’t seem to suspect each other, though. Things didn’t seem as positive in the rooms, though the young foxes were unharmed – at least physically. You pull away from the scene before your emotions surge to the fore again and instead think on how to deal with the intruders.

They were wearing your armour, your insignias and at least a few of them were men and women you knew by face and name. But they fought against your men – the problem being you didn’t know which side was which, except in a few cases where Gnome or others were there. What were you missing?

Look I'm not saying this is Karise and Neir's fault. But this is the second or third major FUBAR under them. Not to mention neither one has ever rolled particularly well for other spy things. But our spies and the activities they're attached to leave something to be desired. And they called Sarah the weak link.
>>
>>40866678
Can't exactly prepare for everything anon. Espcially considering it took six to seven years to happen. So the're doing better then most real life spymasters.
>>
>>40866678
Look, loyalty takes time to build. 20 years from now this shit will never happen, because the people assigned to our castle will mostly have grown up under our rule, and will have much more detailed backgrounds that we can check. We've massively expanded our military, and have an open immigration policy. This makes corrupting parts of it relatively easy.
>>
>>40866738
I'm pretty sure everything happening right now falls under shit you should probably prepare for. I've no doubt minor instances of this has happened away from Talon's eyes, but this is pretty damn big and pretty fucking serious.
>>
>>40866816
Even then betrayal will happen because it always happens. Unless Talon starts mind wiping people there will always be someone out their willing to risk their head for power or wealth.

Not only that but I doubt this setting has a modern day database where you can just look up people. If someone claims to be from some burned out villege there really isn't anyway to see if it's true or not.

That's probably why they noticed it happening in the first place really. If they didn't prepare it would have probably ended with Sai gone.

They've been able to provide you with near-perfect intel for much of the quest. Not to mention this is, what, the second proper intrusion (and the only large one) into the keep in nine years? I think you're overestimating the ability of people to think they can stop everyhing, especially when there is a lot of magic in the world.

>Target met

It’s during one of the exchanges on first underground floor that you understand why your soldiers are able to easily tell apart the traitors from others. They’re relying on Karise’s foxes – they’re able to spot something different about most of the intruders, and then your men target the rest with them by association. Still, it’s not perfect and you see some of your knights taken down by blows from ‘comrades’.

That knowledge gives you the edge you need to identify most of the intruders, however. You’ve been confused so far because the magic you’re sensing from all of them is the same – typically that of their equipment. There is a slightly different haze over some of them, however. A very faint sensation of magic covering them that reminds you vaguely of two sources. Arisa and her nigh-undetectable illusion magic and Raphael and his shapeshifting.

As one of these magic users manages a break away from the conflict, you learn another thing. Namely that they revere Raphael – who then promptly reduces said man’s face to a pulp. The conflict ends abruptly with his appearance as his wings of light fill the room and both sides immediately freeze as they sense the overwhelming magic fill the room. Hell, you freeze and you’re on the other side of the keep.

“Traitorous Wardens and false followers, I will leave your end to another,” Raphael booms and you feel that you’re being spoken to indirectly.

Still, you now know what you’re dealing with. Wardens and Disciples of Theros – the former were spiritualists with the lesser powers of angels, which no doubt explained the strange magical haze and possibly why it was so easily missed earlier. It’s all but drowned out by the natural aura of the Source. But Theros… you’d been dealing with them and their harassment of the elves recently and for them to be capable of this…

You’d deal with the high likelihood of sleeper agents and some of your men serving a religion that didn’t seem to particularly like you later. For now, you…

Alyce has the skill Evocation IV and the ability Channelling IV. Anything IV is very, very rare though the skill is rarer (as it requires an insane level of talent). Alyce and Kushan are the only mages to have Evocation IV (though there is another who will get it); Kushan and a currently alive mage have Transmutation IV; there will be a mage who has Ritals IV.

But the point is, if we just up and show people "Yeah, they fucked with us." It'll ease us into attacking them if we so desire. They break into our capital and start fighting us? Yeah, that's pretty much a declaration of war, and if we shove that in their face, they either have to man up and get ready for a fight, or they will have to back down and lose face.

I'm betting they will do the latter.

If it's hush hush, then they can just say "What? None of our men were there, these are baseless rumors." and it will mean nothing.

>Ralph
Why

>1.

It takes you a few minutes to identify all the Wardens, as well as those soldiers that are assisting them. The latter is hard to identify in some cases, so you simply try to avoid tagging anybody who might not be fighting you.

Then you teleport them all into a large mass of magma you’d created in the extra space of your Dominion. Problem solved. Maybe you’d bring the remains (whatever they might be) back out later if you needed a show of power.

“If you wish to join your traitorous comrades in a very painful death, please continue to oppose me,” you say, your voice reverberating through the entire keep. Every hallway and every room is filled with your threat.

The fighting died down awfully quickly after that, as those knights you missed and the few wardens you spared for information immediately gave up arms. You would kill those you missed as well but didn’t want to look to be too evil. Anger was one thing, but your men wouldn’t respect a butcher. Falwick was proof of that.

Unfortunately, there is still fighting going on elsewhere in the city, though the thousands of soldiers and foxes you have are making short work of it. You check up on…

>1. Sarah and Taira. They were in the noble district for the night, if well-guarded.

Then we look like we are hiding behind an angel.

It's much better to make it very high profile, it emphasizes -our- power.

We don't need people saying "Talon, with Raphael", we want them saying "Talon".

And though we don't -need- a reason to attack people, if you can prove you are in the right, other people wont freak out as much over it and think Talon is just a psychotic warmonger.

>destroying the guard without cause as well
The Guard being the Guard is cause enough for most people, actually. They've interfered with so many other nations politically that nobody would have batted an eye if Alyce had declared war on them instead of the RSK.

>>40868140
>If he just teleported them into the magma itself not too bad.
Why? Because they would die too quickly? I'm assuming you're referring to the fact that they would slowly ooze into it if they fell feet first and die very painfully and slowly?

>HOW SHE FUCKING DIED. I have no idea how we managed to ignore that for so long.
She died in combat in some of the crackdowns against mages after the rebellions. There's not much more to tell.
>>
>>40868201
Is it possible to fully resurrect her?
I'm sure this has been asked before.
>>
>>40868178
Pharos is more Chinese on that front from what I've seen. They are just now extending their sight to us. So any real expansion with them would be kind of like the USA attacking a euopean nation.

Everyone would jump into this. Even the lords probably because no one wants Pharos taking land on our side.

>>40868190

>Alyce has the skill Evocation IV and the ability Channelling IV. Anything IV is very, very rare though the skill is rarer (as it requires an insane level of talent). Alyce and Kushan are the only mages to have Evocation IV (though there is another who will get it); Kushan and a currently alive mage have Transmutation IV; there will be a mage who has Ritals IV.
Has anyone ever had Sorcery (Instinctive) IV?

> Because they would die too quickly?

If someone is instantly buried head to toe in Magma the nerves would die too fast to really feel it and once it got into your orifices it's pretty much instant death.

Being dropped into it though would take longer because magma is a liquid solid pretty much. So density wise it would take a while to sink into it.

Because one of them is indisposed causing a fuckton of problems.

It's nice (and the only reason she could match GK Garynth), but her real strengths are her ridiculous stat levels. Undine and Sala get far more powerful abilities at Level 5 (Sala's Plane Tap can destroy an entire army in a minute) but aren't as strong in a one-on-one fight.

There is still two others anon. I"m pretty sure literally no one would want Pharos over here. Raphael would jump into this as the others.

Although if they went all out then things could get crazy given their numbers. If I remeber right they are mostly about esoteric tricks and having tricked out people due to having such a large population.

They lack mage-knights though. On the other hand I do want to see what their geomancers are made of.

As much as you care about Sai, you’re also worried about your own children, unborn though they might be. The courtyard is filled with knights, torches and magical lights gleaming in the night as they keep watch for any trouble. You’re joined almost immediately by Esraveel and Undine as you walk towards the noble district, flanked by a dozen Daerfir. Alyce had said she wanted to check up on Merce and would see how everybody else was doing.

“How bad did it get elsewhere?” you ask your two Champions as they fall into line next to you, walking very quickly to keep up with your long strides.

“They attempted arson against the mystic fox bastion as well as a strike against some of the administration buildings,” Esra reports.

“One of the Griffin Masters tried to assassinate Lynn,” Undine says. “Fortunately, she mostly just puts on an act when drinking with her Masters and he got a fittingly nasty surprise.”

“What about the rest of the noble district?” you say, as you close in on the door to Sarah’s manor house, noting the knights on either side.

“They’ve noticeably avoided targeting you,” Undine says, reading your behaviour. “They did try to go after Noah but Ren turned them into a mess. There were no other targets.”

You confirm that yourself when you see Sarah and Taira sitting around a table with Tarfinn and Rayza, who have been guarding them when they elect to stay outside the keep. Everything looks fine, though Sarah looks a little worried when she sees your grim face. You…

An invasion like that isn't so hard when everything is ruled by a single major body, and I'm sure the majority of them over there would absolutely love a chance to get over here, and with magic, and only god knows how many boats they have, sending over supplies and an army wouldn't be that complicated for them.

Especially the first wave they would have nothing to worry about, they could come over whenever and we wouldn't notice.

Even if I do downplay the difficulty, we should always be aware of -all- of our threats. To discount even a small knife is to invite a slit throat.

They've traditionally used MAA and Archers for rear area security, which won't work anymore against someone like Arial. He'll blow their supply lines to hell repeatedly until they start detaching enough god-knights to stop him, significantly weakening their main army.

And, you know, away from it with Water Control IV. She can summon an Olympic swimming pool's worth of water in about 5 seconds for only 1/12th of her total mana reserve.

But yes, they're all very different in terms of their specialties. Sylph is going to have a few more support powers as such.

>Honestly for me I"m more interested in seeing Felix maxed or the likes.
Felix and Aladria technically don't 'max out' as they have near infinite potential. Though Aladria increases at a faster rate, especially with Talon feeding her (she got a bump to her Magic, for instance).
>>
Speaking of the military I noticed that Arail's ratio of Spellblades are out of whack.

Instead of one for every 100 mage knights his number is closer to something like one to every 200-300. We will want him to use his Logistics and jump into battle to end them quickly due to this because there is more risks unless he piles them all into the heavy mage knights.
>>
>>40868902
> She can summon an Olympic swimming pool's worth of water in about 5 seconds for only 1/12th of her total mana reserve.

That's useful but if I"m in the middle of a battle in a forest or something I would rather have Salamander. Having all four would just be overkill.
>>

Well open field is where Sala and Slyph excel so of course.

If you were defending a location though, even one less ridiculous then Harrowmont, Gnome and Undine are your girls for defense. Fuck trying to assault Harrowmont with maxed Undine on the other side.
>>
>>40868869
this is a cool idea, maybe it could be a project to build the prestige of the tower of harrowmont or the imperial acadamy
>>
I'm really surprised they didn't target the vampires at all. Fledgling Daywalkers in the Academy, Nightwalkers scattered throughout, Felix and Aladria would have made high profile targets too.

Seems odd given it's the Wardens.
>>
>Nightwalkers/Daywalkers = Grey Wardens
>TYE Wardens = Sentinels

Yay or nay
>>
>>40869037
Depends really.

Salamander could do a godly defense though destroying the other army.

Undine though yes is the girl for defense. Gnome is good at it but personally I think she does really godly on one on one combat as well. Those stats man.
>>
>>40869082
>Grey wardens

I will find you anon. References to that shitty game must be expunged.

That and TYE wardens would be spiritual knights anyway I"m fairly certain and if we get wardens on our side we can just call them wardens.
>>
>>40868932

I think that's because a portion of his were allotted to Rayza, given they're a bit further out of his skill set. Not unlike Phill not having any Foxes instead those being split among Lynn and Fuurin.

I had a good laugh when I realized of our "hero" Generals, only two are just normal dudes.

We need a Combat Magister General though for real.
>>
Though thinking on it again. I really want to make say 200-300 daywalkers part of a secondary imperial guard now.

That way you have a detachment of about 500.

200 Elite elves, 5 dragon knights, and about 295 daywalkers. Watch everyone's shit get pushed in. Just the magic range in that alone.
>>
>>40869122
Phillas, Parras, Arail, Talon.

Though that last one is cheating since he is human but has soul alteration.
>>
>>40869122
Pretty sure she has the same number as normal. She has more mages though. Mostly because she does good as a spellblade herself but also adds strength to mages. Making backline support absurdly useful.

It's more because the ratio of knights is lower because he has more FMK and Archers.
>>
>>40869196

Parras isn't part of our big six line up, I think he fell into normal General role.

And Talon definitely doesn't count.
>>
>>40869082

I don't really think that's necessary. Wardens that side with us will likely just be normal Wardens, and specifically built ones are Spiritual Knights.

And if we're going to name the Daywalker Noble Knights anything it should be Blackguards. Because I mean really it makes sense.
>>
>>40869254
>Blackguards

Would rather not have a name meaning "Those evil fuckers." as an official name in our empire.

Personally I'm a fan of just calling them the sentinels. Due to being immortal and able to guard the empire from danger forever.
>>
>>40869309
It also thinking on it ties well with the possible adding them as a detachment to Talon idea I was talking about before.
>>
>>40869236
Talon is 100 percent human though. Just a human with Astral power.
>>

>>
I'm kind of curious what the power set and character sheet for the Daywalker Knights is going to be. That's really something difficult to homogenize. And who the hell are the sires?
>>
>>40869402
I'd guess it's very likely. Until the population at large learns he has astral and thinks of him as the fourth lord the stuff he does is logically sorcery to them.
>>
>>40869480
Alternatively they might think of him as a ludicrously powerful Templar. Which is technically true depending on how you define "Templar"
>>
>>40869480

The whole having Gnome as a familiar, the premier familiar for powerful mages, probably helps maintain that as well.
>>
>>40869472
If I remember right daywalker research was a eugenics project in another name. So it was mostly about finding sires and personality traits to get something kind of Guaranteed to be useful.

Maybe we got Felix on it? Aladria seems too picky.

I do suspect though that even then a lot of the daywalkers will have differing powers so it will still be 295 powers just combat capable instead of possibility not as if it was random.

Which reminds me I"m amused Felix is trying to learn Aladria's shadow tricks.

You surge forward and give Sarah a hug, happy to see things are alright. With that said, you still need to keep your mind on-track. As relieved as you are to see that they haven’t targeted your closest loved ones, only those relatively close to you, it’s still worrying how they’ve chosen their targets.

“Do any of you have any idea why the Wardens of all people are choosing their targets like this?” you ask the group after the short greeting.

Rayza frowns. “Wait, this attack is by Wardens?”

“And the Disciples of Theros. Raphael identified them,” you say.

“That’s… troubling. I would have expected something against the dragons and vampires then,” she says, concentrating as she sends off a few sendings. “Nothing like that, though. They’re only going after the foxes, your knights and some administrative works. Targets of opportunity?”

“Most likely,” Sarah says, looking grim. “The attack on Lynn sounded like a sleeper agent. I remember Neir brought this up when Theros started causing trouble – that we don’t have any reliable way of dealing with the religious issues. Disciples are very used to hiding their religious beliefs. If they couldn’t get somebody close or it was too hopeless, maybe they didn’t attack?”

Well, something to worry about later. For now, you want to check up on Sai and the other foxes. Karise finally shows herself on the way back to the keep, with just yourself and Undine. You left Esra behind just in case.

Your spymaster looks furious. “We’ve been betrayed, Talon.”

“As I’ve seen,” you say, disappointed that this is the reason Karise finally turns up.

“Not just the knights – the Garrotte clan,” she spits, shocking you. “That sly bastard Kishin struck a deal with Demesdain of all people. I don’t know how he convinced the other foxes in the clan to go along with it, but he let the Wardens in by using his knowledge of our network.”

Your blood runs cold. It wasn’t Marin who had been the problem this time, but the six-tailed fox who had tried to pull his support for her when she’d gotten yourself and Liorne to hold her up instead. “How much of the clan?”

“Around half, including a lot of the elders. They’ve taken control of most of the villages, though Liorne and some of the others managed to escape,” she says. “No word on Marin, but I’d be surprised if she got caught by this sort of thing. She’s slippery.”

“What about the foxes here?” you say, beginning to realise why the foxes may have been the target.

“Small damage overall. I know that Vad’s taking care of his kids but not how bad it is there. The Pride Clan is fine but Ren’s been told there were attacks on his town,” Karise reports. “I’ve told him that he needs to meet with you, but he won’t wait long before he’ll act on his own. Take care of what you need to then go to the war room.”

And with that, you’re just with Undine in the nursery wing. The halls are filled with grim-faced knights with drawn blades who nod rather than salute as you pass. There isn't as many guards when you break it down. Unless you use FMKs. In all the other Legions we can mix about 100 mage knights per spell blade and tag team things. Arails legions aren't as efficient there.

Not a problem since we can mix them with all the HMK but that does leave less guards which is something to keep in mind in a protracted battle.

Felix is easy enough to control. Just be powerful. Might=right in his mind. That and being a sire doesn't give control or anything and he already changed his two bros. So we know he knows how. I'm pretty sure he actually still doesn't know how he thralls people. Which is kind of amusing.

You really run an amazing quest. I'm glad I finally decided to start archive diving because it was more than worth it. You have created an amazingly detailed and interesting world filled to bursting with lore that leaves me wanting to know more and more.

Your writing is generally incredibly good, I've noticed it only seems to be poorer when your mood is poor, and even then its generally above the average of the majority of other quests.

Anyway, thanks for all of the work you put into making this quest as awesome as it is and don't be so hard on yourself. You are easily one of the best QMs on /tg/ and I think you don't give yourself nearly enough credit.

You know really thinking on it Talon could probably alter his mind on that. Really all he needs to do is bring up "Right equals might correct? Why does it matter if you are stealing their power to win? Just the fact you can do so proves you have higher might in itself."

Unless he is too wrapped up for that to work.

Oh speaking of archives.

Found where I messed up my population calculations, from thread XLVIII:

>"Current pop of Harrowmont is 16k with garrison. The hill plan can support about 43k without accounting for additional garrison space. My terrace plan supports about 48k (maybe more if the outer wall is in the proper place?)."

So before the most recent renovations we had a population of 48,000 in Harrowmont. With the addition of the new bastions and stadium districts, that brings us up to ~63,400. Might be a bit more depending upon other stuff Aspirational adds, but that's where Harrowmont sits as far as I am aware.

It’s painful to stand there and wait, but this isn’t the time to act rashly. Sai is hurt and her father is taking care of her – you’ll wait and see what he thinks is best for his daughter. For more than a minute you wait with Undine while Vad strokes his daughters back and whispers in her ear while she shudders against him. It’s clear that Undine finds this hard as well, her maternal instincts wanting to push her forward but she waits just like you. The fact that Nate isn’t here as she’s been patrolling the north to watch for Mage Guard movements just makes this even worse.

Eventually, Vad looks up slightly and sees you. He gives you a strained smile and a nod, before pulling Sai away from himself for a moment and whispering something in her ear. She looks confused and sad for a moment, her ears flattening against the head and tails slipping below her father’s and onto the floor. Then she spins with wide, wet eyes and practically leaps across the room at you.

You find yourself able only to comfort her in the same way Vad had done, as he slips out of the room with an exhausted look. It pains you that you can’t stay long, as Sai cuddles against your chest wordlessly. Undine speaks with Vad outside for the next little while as you do your best to make this adorable little fox feel safe.

Finally, you tell her that you’ll see her in the morning and leave her with Undine as you speak with Vad on the way to the war room.

“Are you sure you don’t want to stay with her?” you ask.

“I’ll head back right after this, but it’s as hard on me as it is on her,” he says, looking miserable. “She didn’t get hurt but she hasn’t experienced death. Part of me wishes she wasn’t so damned sharp so I could distract her more easily, but she knows all too well what actually happened.”

“What did happen?” you ask, afraid of the answer.

“She woke up because Derek, that’s Corporal Wilmholt’s first name, said something in her room,” he explains. “She’s sensitive to his voice because he only bothers her at night if it’s important. Anyway, she woke up and saw a shadow with a sword over her and panicked. Killed him with her magic. Things got worse, Derek got attacked by another one of the bastards and she tried to help him.”

“He sent out the sending then died, didn’t he?” you ask.

“Yes.”

You grimace at that, knowing that Sai had been growing close to the knights that helped take care of her. This was not what you had expected, even if it was the precise reason you had guards. How did one get inside her room so easily?

“The first one she killed. He was one of her guards, wasn’t he?” you ask

“Yes.”

Before you can react, you begin to hear Ren’s cursing and shouting. You hurry into the war room, worried that something’s happening. Inside you find Ren, Noah, Karise, Alyce and Gnome all in the room. The fox chief is pacing back and forth and arguing with Karise.

“I don’t care about the numbers. If they think they can undermine a clan and the entire alliance for so long and then betray us like this, then they are all going to die for it!” Ren shouts at Karise, then he spots you. “Tell me you realise this is what I must do, Talon? I brought these foxes here, and I won’t see those that betray that trust and my people live for it.”

“You can’t just kill them all, Ren,” Karise says. “Talon, say something. Please.”

Karise gives you an imploring look, begging you to help her save at least some of her former clan members. You…

I'm leaning toward Karise though. More than likely it is the elders who need to be taken out, the rest likely just did as they were told. They may be a recoverable asset.

They deserve death, that much is clear. But goddamn don't just slaughter them yet, we need information, round up the ringleaders first, find out how it went down and if the foxes/knights are legitimately bonkers, when have they been planning this, who started the whole ordeal....intelligence is the most important asset. Feel free to purge and smite until we manage to apprehend the brains behind this setup, but we really need info.

CONTENTIOUS VOTE
It's been a while since I've done one of these.

OPTION ONE
Kill all the traitorous Garrotte foxes against Karise's wishes, except for the children. No mercy for treason.

OPTION TWO
Hold back and try to talk this out more, with an aim of not simply killing everybody involved. You'll need to contain Ren, however.

Rules for voting are to make a post with a link to my post declaring the vote and the number you are voting for. No other text, no greentexting the number. All informal votes will be discarded. Voting window will be five minutes after the first vote.

“No, Ren’s right,” you say, your voice soft. “This is a monumental betrayal of trust. There can be no forgiveness.”

Karise stares at you in horror as Ren nods resolutely. The rest of the room maintain stony faces, aware that this isn’t something for them to become involved in. They’d struck at you directly, going for those you’d cared about and it had only been possible due to traitors. You would this in one fell swoop.

“You can’t be serious,” Karise breathes out. “Those are my kin. Our kin, Ren! Can’t you both think for a second?”

“We have thought,” Ren says. “Just as they did. Just as you did when you left them.”

“I left because there was no alternative and it was the hardest thing I’ve ever done,” Karise says shrilly. “Those foxes didn’t do this because they wanted to, they did it because that’s what their clan required them to. You can’t expect absolute obedience and then punish them for doing what you wanted.”

“They turned on their chief,” Ren says.

“You don’t know that,” Karise says.

“You said it yourself. They overthrew Marin,” you say. “It’s decided, Karise. Ren, I know you will have your own forces to deal with this but this is an empire matter, not an alliance matter. I’m happy for you to join them, however.”

“Gladly,” Ren says.

Staring with a hopeless look at the two of you as you tell Ren how this problem will be dealt with, Karise simply waits until he’s left. The others leave shortly afterwards, leaving you alone with her as she looks at you with hollow eyes.

“I trusted you,” Karise whispers.

“Karise-“ you start to say, hoping to convince her.

“I trusted you with my people’s lives!” she screams.

“I’ve protected your clan and helped you establish yourself,” you say.

“Then why are you killing them,” she says. “These are my friends and kin, even if my clan is now different. I know them and you are destroying them. I trusted you to help my kin, not kill them.”

“I trusted them to help me, not kill them,” you repeat. “I have plenty of dead knights and soldiers, and one very traumatised young fox I promised to protect. I will not let that stand.”

“And I won’t serve a butcher and neither will my clan,” Karise says, tears trickling down her cheeks. “I swore fealty to you, under pain of death. I won’t stand on that oath now but I will give you my head if you want it. Know however, that no future clan head will support this behaviour.”

The room goes silent as you watch as a close friendship collapses in an instant. Your duty is first and foremost to your empire, rather than to any one.

You can mitigate the fallout. Or you can make it worse and try to gain benefits in a different way (e.g. have Karise kill herself, try to take control of the clan the hard way).

Anyway, are there any alternative mitigation plans other than >>40872164? The only other one that has been floated is basically just to let her stand down.

Essentially, the Garrotte clan loses slightly more than half its foxes and is dissolved into the other clans (not all of them will go, mind you - some will leave the empire). Karise's clan ceases to offer intelligence benefits and instead merely offers up the limited soldiers expected of them (about 100) - this knocks out around 75% of your intelligence network, though some of this will be restored over time as Neir rebuilds her network without the foxes.

The mitigation plan makes it possible to rebuild the relationship but you'll lose a significant part of the deterrence benefits of crushing the Garrotte clan. Less foxes will die/leave the empire as well. Karise's clan won't offer soldiers, however, and you can't ask her to stand down as chief at the same time.

If you choose to banish her, you'll lose the clan. No ifs, ands or buts. Killing her can keep the clan, but she's gone permanently and relations are damaged.

Any other proposals?
>>
>>40872746
Ask her for an alternative.
>>
>>40872746
Yeah, can Talon just kill himself so we can get off this wild ride?

If no, can we just start killing each other instead?

Hearing people complain about poor decision making is giving me a headache.
>>
>>40869715
Why would it even
>>
>>40872746
Thanks for responding Aspir.

I honestly don't really know what else to do frankly.

I'll agree with asking Karise for an alternative. Just to see what she says.
>>
>>40872746
Could we possibly offer her a timeframe for her to gather evidence on exactly who was responsible? If she can prove that it was only a certain group we will give a lesser punishment on the rest.
>>
>>40872746
Just banish her. She doesn't deserve do die, but if she can't see why this is necessary she's bound to become a liability in the future. Punishment must fit the crime, and there is no worse crime than treason.
>>
>>40872746
I think we should try really hard to convince her. start by throwing sai in her face, then go ahead with the first part of >>40872164
>>
>>40872746

>>40872746

>>
>>40872884
Sure we can, we must approach a problem of this size from every side in order to find an optimal solution.

Also having her come up with an idea, or at lest hearing her out, as to how to solve this problem may end up making her less bitter with us.
>>
>>40872884
We need a functioning spy network
>>
>>40871927
>Fine. I will arrest them and put them on the death sentence. The executions will be schedule to the next year or two. You will have this time to make up for them.
So, how about acting, but doing it slowly enough for Karise to find the responsible for this mess and fix everything up?
>>
>>40872746
Mitigation seems the best way to get this thing moving again. I hold no regret for voting for killing the traitors I would do it again.
>>
>>40872884
Its not backpedaling. Its giving her a option. If she can't live up to it we continue with our plan. So lets say it would take 3 days to organize our kill party we would give her that 3 days to gather evidence. If she could prove only a certain party were involved our wrath would be concentrated on them. If not then death to the clan!

That's pretty much what she'll do. Plus, Talon has made his mind up - that's what the previous vote was about. Any backpedalling now is about trying to save the intelligence network, but her clan's use as an intelligence asset is hopelessly compromised as they don't trust you anymore - it works out the same as the mitigation plan as a result.

VOTE
>1. Go ahead as planned. The Garrotte clan loses slightly more than half its foxes and is dissolved into the other clans (not all of them will go, mind you - some will leave the empire). Karise's clan ceases to offer intelligence benefits and instead merely offers up the limited soldiers expected of them (about 100).
>2. Attempt to mitigate the fallout. Around half the Garrotte rebels are killed instead of all but the clan is then merged into Karise's in order to right it. The deterrence benefit of crushing the traitors is halved. Karise's clan ceases to offer intelligence benefits but offers no soldiers but relations may recover faster.
>3. Banish Karise from the empire. You'll lose the clan but have no risks on that front.
>4. Custom
>>
>>40872989
Somewhat. Keep them locked up and ready to be executed, but only start handing the sentences in a long time, so that karise can do her thing.
>>
This is pretty interesting. It's a headbutt of ideals. Karise wants her clan to be safe. Talon wants to remove the traitors due to it being one of the only things he can't stand.

There really is no Reconciliation here.

"If it were only your word, Karise, I would let it go, and gladly. But it's not. I am an Emperor, and I am responsible for my empire. What message would I send to the world if I did not deliver a swift and terrible justice? What new status would foxes of all banners hold in Harrowmont after that? No, that can not be afforded.

I heard not one voice of dissent when I asked if treason should be made a capital punishment. I heard no mention made of leniency for those would willingly aid an assassin in a child's bedchamber. You never once asked for special exemptions under the law for your tribe.

But for what little it may be worth to you Karise, I am deeply sorry."

Karise, i need you to listen now, your former clan has conspired against me for who knows how long, and put allegiance to their clan leaders ahead of their allegiance to myself and worse ahead of the entire six star clan. they care nothing for your race, and they have rejected you as kin, and solidified that when they sent soldiers to a goddamn nursery to kill fox children in their sleep without even making an attempt on my life. they are not your kin, they are not your clan, they are monsters and i have o choice but to make an example of them. if you cannot understand that i will allow to leave your post and take those of your clan that wish to leave with you out of harrowmont, but i ask only that you wait a day before making your decision.

That's because that's what she always wanted to do. What got voted for was to kill everybody who turned, including those who were doing so because they were following orders as expected to by their clan and childhood teachings.

You exchange glares with Karise as she resolutely prepares herself for potential suicide. Finally, you sigh – the only measure of emotional grace you’ll grant her.

“Fine then. What would you prefer to do?” you ask her.

She stares at you in amazement, and not the positive kind. “You’re asking me that now? After completely ignoring and dismissing me earlier?”

Then she twigs to the real cause of it and grimaces. “Ah, so all you really want is me. No, the intelligence asset. All you really care about it is your ability to expand and control your empire. I gambled that you would truly help my people and didn’t win as much as I would hope – but I will thank you and your blind ambition for getting them as far as they have. I hate to think of how this would have ended had I not made the deal with you I did.

“Still, I can’t give you what you want and you know it, don’t you?”

You nod slowly, realising that you’re long past the stage of being able to rely on Karise and her clan as a loyal intelligence asset. The fierce loyalty the foxes show to their clan and leader was what made them so reliable – now that Karise and her clan wouldn’t trust you, you couldn’t expect that level of loyalty to you.

Karise continues, “If giving myself to you was all it took to save my kin then I would, but it won’t and even if I could give my clan’s continuing unwavering loyalty to you, I wouldn’t. Not after this – not any time soon. But please, Talon – show some mercy. The alliance conditions foxes into near absolute loyalty – Taira implemented the teachings to prevent the destructive infighting that preceded the alliance. The elders aren’t as affected but the younger foxes… all they know is to do as they’re told. Their clan is everything – that is why becoming clanless is so damaging.

“Please, protect those that aren’t truly traitors.”

You close your eyes and think unemotionally for a second. Not all was lost, you thought. For tomorrow or the next decade, yes. But you had a longer game in mind and you wouldn’t sacrifice an asset now for short-term emotional gain. So you nod at Karise.

“Fine, I’ll allow you to protect who you can. Identify whatever you can of those who aren’t truly traitors and I’ll have my legion arrest them – the rest will die as a traitor’s death,” you say.

Karise nods, the barest hint of a grim smile present. Then she blinks away with just the slightest warping sensation and you are left alone. A magical light hovers above the central table, casting your shadow across the room.

To be fair, I feel all of this was necessary, if only I see this from further away by just finding the thread late. I would not let traitors live, as it basically undermines the unspoken social contract. However, there's the problem of them not actually being assimilated into the Talon is our emperor mindset. But I would think that Talon wouldn't do all merciful in a situation like this, where there is basically open rebellion.

I strongly don't think the whole 'just following orders" thing is valid, it certainly isn't valid IRL.

It's invoked pretty erratically IRL, however (and largely comes down to politics), and is certainly something that gets a lot of argument at times so I feel it's valid to have it here.

>Planning

So what’s about to come up is that you’re facing a three-front war plus some insurgency from the Disciples of Theros. Not only has a the Extremist faction of the Mage Guard seized control, assassinating Irlin in the process, but they’ve immediately marched on the rebellion that broke out in Balkarin from Sylvian’s former faction (that you were supporting under the table). After that, it’s clear they’re targeting you. Furthermore, those strange black armoured knights that Finn and Felix fought one of and that are connected to a ‘rogue enchanter’ in Malataine have reappeared.

Falwick’s army has massed and he’s going to launch his assault on your front or possibly Gespad. Or both. Either way, he’s got an enormous army and a powerful mage backing him and is out for blood and conquest.

Finally, Malataine has moved a fleet on your colony in the Taurine Islands. You have a large enough navy to engage, but you’ll also need to engage them on the land and they appear to be hunting for something on the island you are on.

The main thing is to split your legions between the three battlefronts and determine where Talon will fight, as well as how to approach each one. Then there'll also be how to proceed - you might fight off Falwick's assault and decide to advance on his fortress or capture Asfael. Or you might fend off Demesdain's assault on Balkarin and launch a full-fledged invasion of the Guard - or instead merely trying to kill the leaders of the new Guard.

Actually from how I see it-

The clan attacks the empire, so clan is rebelling, and people who decide to join it are rebels, no matter what as they are still fighting us.

This can be considered a civil war, but because everyone (including themselves) considers them to be part of the clan and not part of the empire is this a ally attacking ally moment?

No wonder I felt really mad.

I'm of the opinion that Falwick is our prime target right now for the general warfare. Having the support of the Magi League should make that easier. Not to mention the RSK is going to blow up as soon as this occurs.

The Guard is going to be a bitch to crack. I'm not even a hundred percent on how we should approach them. Our border provinces are going to feel it hard unless we get in there and secure Balkarin immediately.

FUCKING MALATAINE. I honestly think this is where we send Talon, as well as Undine. I don't particularly want to lose the assets we've invested into the island colony. And Malataine making any sort of bold move at all is a broad stroke of luck on our part given their general long term game ways. Figure out what they're after, begin divining a way to counter them properly and hopefully take out a good bit of military in the process.

I'd actually say that Talon is more likely than most to potentially see it as a valid excuse. He's fought in a lot of conflicts, done and seen a lot of things and had to rationalise away a lot of it. Plenty of people he's befriended would have been involved in the Farloun genocide because not carrying it out would have been treason punishable by death as they were serving soldiers. It's quite probably for him to have formed a different view, though he might also have formed a different one as an emperor.

>>40874226
Guard have well north of 100k, though it's hard to tell because they're recruiting en masse from the civilians. Lots of demagoguery.

Falwick has more than 200k soldiers. Not really recruiting, however.

Personally I would focus on Falwick with Talon. Send Finn and Undine to the Islands to handle that issue. Once Falwick is out of the way see if we can't get the RSK's maiden and teloport off to the Islands if Finn reports problems.

>>
>>40874140
Falwick is the main threat we should attempt to knock him out before we engage the Guard. Hold our border with them and supply our allies as best we can while fighting falwick
>>
>Undine in naval combat

Well I hope we don't plan on capturing anyone alive.
>>
Alrighty then, we stand to gain a lot of territory from this so let's see what we can do.

I'd say the Guard is the lesser threat compared to Falwick. So obviously we end the lesser threat quickly with a proper show of force there, Say 10 Legions, or 100 000 men.

Between the Legions that Talon brings, our pet dragon and the "rebel" Guards we should have enough to crush the other Guards

>>40874367
With them having 100k troops they would then be outnumbered and we can crush them, hopefully without all to many loses. Civilians will probably be cannon fodder.

Undine can take one Legion and the Navy and deal with the colony, simple as that.

Finn can meanwhile take our remaining 7 Legions and hold of Falwick until we can return and reinforce him with out mostly intact force.
>>
Falwick is likely going to get gutsier the more Talon stays out of the conflict.

I've no doubt if Talon stays on that front he'll march on Gespad first. Talon goes to Guard front, Darlesia. Talon goes to the islands, both.
>>
>>40874389
it also implies that the invading force gets shat on.

i say we send 50k north, 20k to the islands, 80k south, and leave phillias and one other legion in harrowmont to hold things down
>>

I kind of see it. On the other hand that was a genocide ordered by the rulers so obeying is obeying your ruler. This is closer to getting an order from someone to attack Fenix then listening. I was mostly raising the intellectual argument against the Nazi example being raised. The Nuremburg Defence is still pretty heavily debated, particularly given the way soldiers are conditioned. In any case, probably not a good idea to pursue it further in-quest.

>Legions attached in picture.

The Guard have more than 100k soldiers, but are recruiting en masse. Between the Wardens, the Inquisitors and the artifacts they’ve pulled out of the vaults it’s dangerous to deploy sorcery-heavy units against them. As such it would be a bad idea to deploy Rayza or Felix against them.

Falwick has more than 200k soldiers and has the advantage of having plenty of frontiers and a well-equipped force. He’ll likely need to be fought defensively and being able to move quickly will be an advantage. No commanders will do poorly here, but Fuurin, Felix and Arail would likely do well.

Malataine only has a small force but it’s likely to be elite and their navy will defeat your three Ships-of-the-Line in a straight fight so you’ll need to reinforce them with powerful magic. Rayza alone could manage it, being a massive dragon, but Fuurin could also work. Alternatively, Salamander or Undine could be sent alone – the former has plenty of naval combat experience. Note that Phillias can’t be sent as his legion is too large to quickly transport currently. You can only send 10k soldiers (one legion).

>>40874482
Phill is the best defensive general we have. Keep him to cockblock falwick. We may want to send our helldragon to the guard and let her wreak about 30K+ men. Then leave to rest while Taira clears the rest.

Oh, forgot to mention but Phillias will need to be deployed to a front that Talon isn't at. There's no point otherwise in him being a Lord General.

Helldragon and Taira is a decent idea here. We need to break them before they can make it a war of attrition.

Caitlyn, Felix, Fuurin.

Undine and Arail. If they land then they have to deal with Arail flying like the wind and it would be hard as hell to land with Undine.

Talon goes to the Falwick front and tries to lower the number of men there while keeping an eye on the Islands. If given a chance to he princess snatches to have something to hold with the RSK.

That's my general idea right now.

Well it all comes down to which target we want to take out first, Guards or Falwick. My arguments for taking out the Guards first and hardest is as following.

*They are currently fighting our pet dragons former faction. We can use that to have them come into a two front war with us on one side and the rebels on the other.
*They are weaker than Falwick. If we fight them with a sufficient force we will take much less loses. As oppose to if we fight Falwick first in which case we will most deffinitly take severe loses and it may leave us unable to easily deal with the Guard.
*Falwick has not made his move yet. He may not attack us before we've managed to bring the Guard to battle, thus giving us some time to fight before the big showdown with his army.

Sala has a lot of naval combat? Huh. Well I guess she did work with Malataine for awhile, makes sense.

We should figure what the fuck we do next time something like this happens though, instead of half assing one way or the other.

But what were we going to do anyway? Sparing them would probably hurt us more, as people would see it as being weak to (attempted) child killers. And its guaranteed that somebody would just pretend to be 'just following orders' and infiltrate us again.

Not to mention that really evil people may take advantage of this and go 'just following orders'.

But someone explain to me the whole clan-empire thing. I for one think we need to go for broke on assimilation lest it creates bigger divides.

What the hell are we going to do next time? I don't really see another option. This is a lose-lose scenario and this is how I think we lose the least.

He could do a scouting mission, but trying to kill Falwick right now is a suicide mission. He's holed up in his personal fortress. You could try another princess snatching expedition, but it would be very difficult currently given how heavily she would be guarded.

>>40874635
>Shouldn't we get the MG navy as well?
It's long since been sabotaged/severely damaged. They've been in civil war for six years, anon. The extra two SOTLs are TYE produced (Vitria only came with one).

>>40874665
>But someone explain to me the whole clan-empire thing.
The foxes are loyal to their clan and leader first and foremost, then the alliance/race, then whoever the alliance serves. Strictly speaking, this is supposed to make it easier for somebody such as Taira to control the entire alliance through the clan heads because she can just melt their faces if she wants and the Court couldn't bully her foxes if they didn't want to get wrecked by her.

That and the clan loyalty thing is built into the foxes, virtually. It's predates Taira's creation and was probably something added by the being that made them.

>>40874688
Yes, defending Harrowmont properly is a good idea. It's tough, but if he throws 100k soldiers at it then he might be able to just roll over those defences with enough magic and mage-knights unless it's properly defended.

I think Salamander works better in a more combat heavy region.

Fuurin works best in a region where his fields are for graves has the most use. That is where we can fort in and fire shots all day so Falwicks legions.

Arail's would work best where movement is more useful which personally would be if the Island was taken. Although Falwick is second best to my mind.

Sorry, not civil war but certainly very bad. Extreme discontent? I'm not sure what you'd term it, but there's a lot of martial war, skirmishes, assassinations, incitement and sabotage. It's probably jsut one step short of open civil war for much of the time, and has only broken down now because Irlin is now dead and there's noone able to oppose the extremists.

That's how some of the medieval arrangements work, anon. Even your knightly orders to an extent - the knights are loyal to their order and city, which is why some of them don't like you. It's just like how the governors have a ton of power in their parts of TYE and I imagine there's people under them that don't see their loyalty to the empire as much as their state.

Did we get any Ren points this session?

How useful would having Saareg helping us be right now in this three way war?

Do we have any daywalkers active right now?

How much does the strength of a man increase when he becomes a nightwalker? And what level is their starting regen?

Well I still enjoyed the thread. You always manage emotion well.

Oh random question.

>"You saw a company of archers taking up firing positions in a few of the buildings nearby, along with a few mages around an officer. You had a feeling this officer hadn’t fought on the frontlines – the League had stopped putting the big blue plumes on the helmets of their officers once they learnt that just made them targets for the magically guided ballistae that the RSK so loved."

from thread LI.

Is it possible to compartmentalize this and add it into the Siege Archer design? Possible upgrade?

On a one to ten scale how hard would it be to get Karise and Talon in the same room without a fight breaking out? Even if it was just them being silent.

How much longer till Taira has children? and is battle ready?

Oh, and I haven't forgotten Raph's offer. It's just being delayed for a bit as Raphael isn't in a rush to act just yet. Unless people want to push him to kill Ember now so they can get Saareg.

>>40875817
>In the RSK who would have to do a marriage for it to be considered legal?
Lots of people can do it. There's agreements faciliated largely by the mage towers on this sort of thing, like with banking. (Yes, that means that mages sometimes act as celebrants, though they typically just witness them).

>Did we get any Ren points this session?
Yes.

>How useful would having Saareg helping us be right now in this three way war?
Saareg is just straight-up Murder. Capital M intended. Mind you, he wouldn't just do whatever you say - he'd only help you insofar as it protects the empire and helps you help Raphael (assuming you're referring to the deal). Saareg doesn't really have limits like most of the other Champion candidates - at least not as an active revenant. He's not too powerful against armies, however - though he can scare the bejeezus out of them.

>>40875843
>Do we have any daywalkers active right now?
100 relatively fresh ones from the Academy.

>How much does the strength of a man increase when he becomes a nightwalker? And what level is their starting regen?
Nightwalkers don't get exceptionally stronger with time, just with experience. Like, they can lift and shit to make themselves stronger but they're not like daywalkers that get naturally stronger. But the jump in terms of physical capability would be enough to put your average martial artist on par with some of the very best in terms of reflexes, strength etc. Naturally, taknig one of the best and maknig him into a nightwalker has the same multiplier.

Starting regen isn't too hot - about Wondrous Body I standards.

Here is the plan guys. We get Asfael, We marry her to a retainer. When Fenix kicks the bucket we have a guy in bloodline succession who can then be sent to start pacifying with our armies as support. Once he wins he becomes RSK king and we turn him into a Vassel/Governor.

>Will the Magi league give us much support vs Falwick or the guard?
Depends on who is the aggressor. If you're defending against Falwick then you'll get Merce and 20k soldiers, including a unit of combat magisters. No assistance against the Guard, however - unless they threaten Shropham directly, then they'd try to deploy more. The League's military isn't as big as it was against the RSK - they lost 100k soldiers due to Shropham/Albanon, and Blacktaffe and other regions have withdrawn many of their troops from the east. As such, Alyce only has about 100k soldiers available that aren't sensitive or deployed against Ember and she needs some of those to guard Ahm.

>What is the odds of a fox blabing to Ren about the entire Noah and Talon playing the pop up pirate game?
Higher now, though Karise won't betray you like that at least. One of her foxes might misread the situation, however.

>>40875878
That would be already used in the design - it'd be hellishly hard to aim a hand-held ballista otherwise.

>You always manage emotion well.
What do you mean?

>>40875882
>On a one to ten scale how hard would it be to get Karise and Talon in the same room without a fight breaking out? Even if it was just them being silent.
I imagine that they're both mature enough to be fine with each other - they got along on a personal level. Certain topics could be a raw point.

>How much longer till Taira has children? and is battle ready?
Children in a month (she and Sarah are two months pregnant). She's not going to leave Harrowmont for any long period of time until they're no longer kits, however.

>>40875914
Not for a while - you only just started erecting the factories for them.

>>40876029
The RSK doesn't necessarilly work so simply. Just trying to use succession to claim rights over the RSK could be easily opposed if people don't want to be under Talon. The whole 'might makes right' thing that Fenix fostered is a part of that .

>>40876073

> Just trying to use succession to claim rights over the RSK could be easily opposed if people don't want to be under Talon.

Yeah. Still it could be advantageous. especially if we can get Fenix to agree it's a legal marriage and make it him a direct successor.
>>
>>40876076
>you only just started erecting the factories for them.

Where at specifically? And are we ever going to build a god damn factory in Harrowmont?

>What do you mean?

I mean, for me at least, your emotional scenes tend to really hit hard. Just well written. My stomach was up in knots about Karise.
>>
>>40876076
I wonder. Would it be possible to bargain with Raphael here? Basically I"m thinking. "Let me have access to Saareg and any info you can have to help me out. In exchange once these wars are over I will take down ember."

Oh, hell yes. Killing one of his chiefs would have infuriated him - the same could be said for banishment. He'll back Talon for standing up to her somewhat, given he's done so himself to chiefs. He wouldn't support Karise's death or any attempt by Talon to put in a pupper fox controlling the Garrotte clan (or whatever I called Karise's clan).

>>40876151
Raph would be extremely unwilling to lend Saareg unless he was actively seeking refuge from him or could rely on you to fill in gaps in the barrier forces that could occur when he sides with you publically.
>>
>>40876131
>And are we ever going to build a god damn factory in Harrowmont?

I'm thinking it could be useful to have our juggernaut factory in there honestly. Build it in the domain then cut off all access but by people we want there. Be nigh impossible to figure out how they work that way.

Fuck. I was hoping we could slip by that way at some point or another.

>or could rely on you to fill in gaps in the barrier forces that could occur when he sides with you publically.

Hmm. Honestly might be a good idea to keep this in mind then. Once we get the guard I don't see much problem with this. But until then there is an issue just because I don't see Raphael trusting that Talon could send men in a threeway Clusterfuck.

>>40876314

>“You can’t just kill them all, Ren,” Karise says. “Talon, say something. Please.”
This is all the input we get from Karise, before making a decision that would determine whether she stays or leaves. Why didn't she make the comment about saving the younger ones - who are only following orders religiously as they are thought -, before we made the decision?

Then you say
>Honestly, if you didn't see this coming you didn't read the last several posts.
You played this at least as badly as you players Aspi. That one sentence above is literally the only input we got from Karise about this whole situation.
>>
>>40876231

>The Pride Clan is fine but Ren’s been told there were attacks on his town,” Karise reports. “I’ve told him that he needs to meet with you, but he won’t wait long before he’ll act on his own. Take care of what you need to then go to the war room.”
Karise heavily implies that Ren's being stupid and wants you to help her.

Oh, and the line right after the one you quoted that that reads:
>Karise gives you an imploring look, begging you to help her save at least some of her former clan members.

But okay, she'll have no problems if you go forth and kill her old clan members and family. Not to mention the wording of both votes themselves and the fact that the first vote was pretty strongly worded - kill them all or actually talk it out?
>>
>>40876476
We didn't ask for any, I saw it coming
>>
>>40876476
I do kind of agree knowing Foxes are biologically programed to follow their clan would have been useful. On the other hand seeing Karise beg Talon not to do it also is a pretty damn big hint that doing it will cause her to leave.
>>
>>40876544
I am just saying this, because this is something you have done some times. An imploring look may seem so clear to you, but it is not always so clear to your readers. I am pretty sure putting that sentence about sparing those younger foxes who are programmed to follow younger foxes before that vote would have changed how this played out. And it would make so much more sense for Karise to try and make a case to convince Talon before he makes a decision, instead of pointing things out after the decision.

I am not trying to be vindictive here. I am trying to point out a mistake you seem to sometimes make so you can be aware of it.
>>
>>40876544
I wholeheartedly agree with this anon >>40876662
>>
>>40876662
Personally I do say this is true in a way. We do tend to learn information that Talon would know of right after he makes the decisions.

Still when Talon says no mercy I would think people would get the hint he means no mercy to anybody. Even the young foxes.

Doesn't help Ren the alliance chief was advocating for it. So logically a lot of the damage would be done by him instead of Talon.

This is a narrative quest and I'm not going to openly detail the pros and cons of every decision beforehand. Especially because sometimes I expect people to realise subtleties - like the fact that siding against Sylvian would anger her or that Karise was trying to protect people she cared for from a 'slaughter all the traitors' command. If some voters miss those, then they miss those - that's just what happens.

I don't think there has been a decision in this quest (or, heck, many other quests i've particiapted in) that, when taken poorly, hasn't had a 'we needed more information' request. It's hard enough as it is to add in as much as I do sometimes. Little enough gets done as it is. I'm sorry if that's not good enough for you, but that's the breaks of semi-live writing.

>And it would make so much more sense for Karise to try and make a case to convince Talon before he makes a decision, instead of pointing things out after the decision.
There was an option for that. Plus, she didn't expect Talon to come in and be as gung-ho on the slaughter as he was - her own judgement was that Talon was considerably different to that, as evidenced in her words afterwards.

>>40876727
>We do tend to learn information that Talon would know of right after he makes the decisions.
I don't think that happens terribly often. It didn't really happen here, given that it's been said and implied several times before that foxes are intensely loyal to their clan.

Actually thinking on it couldn't we just have let Ren order most of the purges? That way we keep it an alliance issue and just help out where he asks. Probably wouldn't help Karise but it could deflect some long term damage.
>>
>>40876811
>implied several times before that foxes are intensely loyal to their clan.

Talking more about the biological part of it personally. Just for if you check this later.

>There was an option for that

Personally I think people where mostly just emotional due to Sai then voted to have Talons mind made up on a total slaughter early on instead of asking Karise for her arguments otherwise.

Once that was voted for Talon went into what Ren was advocating. Which in term cut Karise off from making arguments because he already agreed beforehand instead of asking about.

Karise most likely assumed Talon would be moderate like he normally is here and didn't see his hatred of traitors being as big as an influence as it was.

At least that's how I viewed how it went personally. People voted too quickly for an extreme stance.
>>
>>40876941
>. People voted too quickly for an extreme stance.

An extreme stance Karise personally didn't expect so her arguments didn't come as quickly or a viciously as one would expect.

You can kind of tell that due to her Deer caught in a headlight reaction at how fast he said yes.
>>
>>40876811
You are much more hard-headed than i've thought about this. If you can't see how it would make much more sense for Karise to say "Most of those foxes were following orders, as they are programmed to do from the moment of their birth. Talon, please say something." instead of saying "Talon, please say something" and giving a look, then I can see there is no reasoning with you on this.

Well, I will keep enjoying the quest regardless. Thanks for running.
