"Yeah," I reply while looking down at the phone in my hand. I really should call Allison while I can... but it's not like I have time to waste here, either.

But then it hits me that this is a CELL PHONE and I can just call her while I follow Charlotte and Gabrielle out of the suite. So of course I do just that, hitting my sister's speeddial number just as I pass through the door.

She picks up immediately.

"Hey Cecile," a dejected-sounding Allison answers the phone. "You're still with Charlotte, right?"
"Yeah," I reply. "What about you, are you doing alright after what happened last nighT?"
"Dunno if I can say that I'm 'okay,' but I'll manage," she says with a weak chuckle. "I'm at home right now and Kevin's keeping me company since I don't really feel safe by myself... are you on the way back home?"

Her tone of voice when she asks me that just makes me feel absolutely horrible.

I feel absolutely horrible for not being there for her right now, but it's way too dangerous for me to be around her before this vampire girl is dealt with.

"Guess I ought to water your plants for the day," Allison says.
"Thanks for doing looking after then for me," I reply. "I really owe you for that.
"It's the least I can do for my baby sister," she says. "Speaking of sisters, it turns out that Kevin's friend's daughter that's been staying with him is actually Charlotte's little sister! Did you know that?"

Huh, so he finally told her.

"It really is a small world..." Allison laughs. "...is Gabrielle in the same room as you right now? Kevin says that he wants to ask her something."
"Yeah, " i reply, "we're all in the elevator right now."

After tapping her on the shoulder to get her attention, I hand Gabrielle my phone and lean against the elevator wall while she talks to Kevin.

"Umm..." Gabrielle turns to us, "Kevin wants to know if I'm gonna be staying here at the hotel for another night."
"Why are you asking me?" I ask, shrugging.
"Daddy says that I shouldn't bug you too much when you're trying to do couple stuff so I'm only gonna stay over if you're not gonna be," she replies.

I guess this is assuming that we get rid of that vampire today.

"You're going to be coming right back here if this issue isn't dealt with tonight though," Charlotte says. "I already said I'm not letting you out of my sight until you're safe."
"Of course," I reply.

I get my phone back just as the elevator door opens. Gabrielle and Charlotte walk out first, and I follow closely after them while looking out for that one annoying guy from the front desk. Looks like he's not around today though, much to my relief.

"Hm?"

I feel a tapping on my shoulder paired with a sudden headache.

I guess that makes sense... and while it'd be best if Charlotte was in on it too, Theresa's "be visible to specific people" power doesn't work on her so I'm on my own here.

So as we make our way outside, I nod in agreement to her suggestion.

"Great," Theresa replies. "With Mina missing and you being targeted, I'm just not in the mood to try and deal with... you know," she sighs.
"Cecile!" Charlotte calls out. "C'mon, hurry up!"

Looks like Charlotte went ahead of us and called a taxi.

I'm already distracted as hell because I'm so worried about Mina, and I guess Theresa's sudden reappearance completely pulled my concentration away from my surroundings. I really need to pull myself together.

"Are you going to be okay?" Charlotte asks. "You look even more out of it than I was a little while ago."
"I'll be fine," I reply as I get into the taxi. "Just kind of frazzled, that's all."
"IF you say so."

While Charlotte slides into the rear seat next to me, Theresa opens the front passenger door ans sits down next to the driver. Naturally, I'm the only person who even knows she's here.

"Yeah," Charlotte replies. "Assuming that she got there after we left, I ought to be able to trace where she went. And even if this doesn't work out, I have Loki and the others from this morning searching all over for both Mina -and- that Noelle girl."
"Alright," I nod. "Just making sure."

Considering the number of birds she had out on the terrace, it wouldn't be surprising if they found Mina first.

It takes practically no time for the cab to reach yesterday's "battlefield." As we leave the car, the driver expresses a lot of concern as to what three young girls dressed in frilly dresses would even be doing out here, but Charlotte dismisses his claims with a BS story about having dropped an earring and he seems to buy it.

Once Charlotte pays for the fare, he drives off and then it's just the four of us.

...well, five of us if you count Shary.

"Yeah," I reply. "Right over there, actually," I say, pointing to a patch of dirt that still has visible marks from when Irene punched the living hell out of Glenn.

I really should feel worse about that, but I don't.

"Okay then..." Charlotte says as she makes her way to that exact place. "I'm picking up Cecile..." she closes her eyes. "...and -her-..."

Charlotte walks around in a large circle while sniffing the air around her. If I was in a better mood than I am right now, I might actually find it funny.

"Are you picking up Mina's scent anywhere?" I ask.
"........no," Charlotte shakes her head. "Plenty of people have been around here and there's also the lingering scent of blood, but no Mina."
"Damn," I mumble while clenching my fists.
"Gabrielle," she turns to her sister, "are you sure that you told Mina that they w-"
"Yes I told her the right place," Gabrielle snaps back. "You said the intersection before you ran off and that's what I told Mina!" she shouts, her eyes starting to well up with tears."
"I'm not blaming you, Gabrielle," Charlotte replies, "I'm just trying to cover all of our bases here."

Just as it looks like Gabrielle's about to break down, I take her hand and that seems to help at least a little bit. Without saying anything else, we stand off to the side while Charlotte continues to try and locate Mina's scent...

...and since I don't actually have anything else to do myself, I start to think back to what Charlotte and Gabrielle were saying. If she called Mina then there's a few routes that she could have taken to get here depending on where she was at the time. And if Mina was on the way here but got sidetracked somehow, Charlotte might be able to pick up her scent from there...

"Hey Charlotte!" I call out.
"Eh?" Charlotte stops sniffing the air and glances at me. "What, did you find something?"
"You did?" Gabrielle asks, squeezing my hand even tighter than before (it really kind of hurts).
"Not exactly," I reply, "but maybe if we traced back where Mina probably was when you called her then Charlotte might be able to pick up her scent from there."

Both Charlotte and Gabrielle gasp in unison.

"That might actually work!" Charlotte says, smiling for the first time since I told her that Mina was missing. "But, well... where exactly was she? And even though I've been here for a month now I'm still not really familiar with the area..."
"Well she was at Sun-Mi's place when I left her," I reply, "and her place is over that way..." I say, pointing to the northeast.
"Then that's where we'll start," she nods.

Still holding Gabrielle's hand, the two of us follow after Charlotte as she hurries off in the direction that I pointed.

"Nice going, Cecile," Theresa says as she runs past me.

While Charlotte continues on at a brisk pace while sniffing the air around her, Theresa dashes right past her at full speed. The way that her cape catches the air when she runs is actually really cool, I bet Gabrielle would appreciate it if she could actually see her.

This continues for a good while, with Charlotte hunting for Mina's scent and Theresa running every which way while also trying not to stray too far from us.

"Waaaaaaait..." After what seems like forever, Charlotte freezes in place and cranes her neck in every possible direction. "I've got her!"
"What!?" I gasp. "You finally have a trail!?"
"It's really faint, but this is definitely Mina..." she replies as her slow footsteps gradually speed up into a stalking pace. "Follow me, you two."

We take a few minutes for me to catch my breath before continuing on in pursuit of Mina. Charlotte says that her scent is still really faint but much less so than before so we must be going in the right direction...

...and then both her and Gabrielle are hit with a Synapse at the same time, which throws away any doubts that I might have had concerning our choice in routes.

With renewed vigor, they hurry along as fast as they're able to go without completely leaving me behind, half-running down several more blocks before coming to a halt.

"...damn it," I mutter under my breath when I finally spot a very annoyed-looking Theresa crossing her arms while standing next to Sun-Mi.
"Wha-" Charlotte stammers. "I know that I followed Mina's scent right here, and..." she slaps her forehead. "Oh God damn it."

Charlotte wasn't following Mina, she was following the traces of Mina's scent that was lingering on Sun-Mi.

Here ends tonight's thread, folks. I can't say that I had a particularly good time with this one, but I do appreciate those who were willing to stick it out with me. It's appreciated.

The next thread will be on Sunday night, hopefully I won't have to delay it like the past few weeks.
