"Ah, yes. The enemy." Lord Artois sighs. "The Reikland envoys consist of those descended from the traitor lords. You have already met Colonel Gregor and Von Hess. Colonel Gregor is a cruel man, but a cunning and ruthless tactician who will do anything to win. Von Hess is the youngest of her family, but she has shown a great talent in Vertical Tank fighting. Their third envoy is Sir Strong. A massive man with allegedly superhuman strength. Well, there are rumors that he isn't human at all."

"Actually, my Lord, I did some scouting, and I found that Sir Strong is in fact, not part of the original group." Willem speaks up. "He was added at the very last second at the request of their Science Division."

A dark look crosses Lord Artois' face.

"This is distressing." He growls. "If that monster is involved, we may be worse off. Then again, this might be to our advantage..."

"Can you explain?" Bannon asks.

"Reikland is not as united as you might think." Lord Artois shakes his head. "I'm sure you have seen the abominations Reikland has been putting on the field. All of those were done at the behest of the Science Division. From what I have heard, the Reiksguard was not happy at the idea of being replaced with undead corpses."

"So, that means we might be able to sway the envoys to our side without fighting?" Parker asks.

"Possibly. But I would advise caution. Gregor and Von Hess are still loyal nationalists." Lord Artois cautions.

"I will keep that in mind." Lord Artois sighs and pulls out a pocket watch. "Anyways, it is time. Be sure to act polite and don't speak unless spoken to."

You all nod.

With that, you and the rest of the platoon pile into the gathered cars, which promptly ferry you over to the massive castle in the center of town, no doubt the King's. You press your face against the window, marveling at the marble white stone structure gleaming in the morning light.

"Ah yes, the Royal Palace. The jewel of Breton." Willem smiles. "The outer skin is made of the purest granite, shipped here from hundreds of miles away."

"It's pretty." Tarin says simply, gazing out the window.

The procession continues to weave its way though the city streets. You could tell that the layout was a holdover from olden times, judging from all of the twists and turns and dead ends you pass by. You vaguely daydream of a VT battle taking place in this city, and how wheeled vehicles would be no match for a VT in this sort of environment. Soon enough, the convoy reaches the snow white castle and passes through the front gate. Here, you see way more armored knights standing guard, all of them bearing the insignia of a golden cup. You wonder what significance that holds.

"This way." Lord Artois lead you out of the cars and through a large entry hall, where you come up to a large throne room. Guards lined the walls, while those seeking audience were kept in check near the back of the room. Lord Artois continues to push you forward until you're directly in front of the empty throne.

"Where is he?" You whisper to Willem.

Well dang, you never figured a king's subjects could be so venomous towards him.

However, across from you, you could see the Reiklander envoys at attention. In addition to their bodyguards, the tall and gaunt Gregor stands at the head of the group. Next to him, you see a massive, armored thing that kind of vaguely resembled a man who easily dwarfed even the naturally tall Gregor by at least a head or two. Legs and arms the size and tree trunks and a massive barrel chest completed the image, and Sir Strong stands there like a stone statue without a care in the world.

And right behind them, when she thinks they aren't looking, Ellisaria gives you a playful wave.

You give a covert wave back to her, just to be polite. However, you also decide to add a little flair by adding a wink to it. Ellisaria is taken aback for a bit, but smiles and returns her attention to the throne.

"Getting awfully friendly with a girl you just met." Tarin observes, with a slight pout that somehow made her look adorable despite her still neutral expression.

"Just being nice is all!" You chuckle at Tarin's possessiveness.

"Hey, shut it, lovebirds!" Bannon hisses as trumpets blaze throughout the room.

Up front, a herald, flanked by a pair of hornblowers, walks up and stops right next to the throne.

"ATTENTION, ESTEEMED GUESTS. PLEASE BOW FOR KING BRETON VII." The Herald bellows as the trumpeters blast the room with sound again.

With the signal given, you see an old man, being attended to by no less than six knights, shuffle across the stage in his thick rose before finally settling down into his throne. He looked like the generic, everyday old man, with wrinkled skin and large beard.

"Welcome to Breton, envoys from Tilea and Reikland." The King croaks loudly. "Today we are here to begin the formal competition to determine the fate of Breton. However, to prove their worthiness, the envoys will have to battle and prove themselves the superior nation!"

The entire room erupts in cheers the thought of a state sanctioned competition becomes more and more likely.

"Noble houses from all over Breton will challenge you." The King warned. "Do not expect easy fights, and do not take our style of warfare for granted."

Well, of course.

"And so begins the Great Joust!" The King bellows. "Rejoice!"

With that, the assorted nobles begin to scatter and interact with each other on a smaller scale. You kind of briefly wondered if people were going to challenge you right here an now.

The room goes quiet, but nobody says anything. Perhaps nobody was ready yet? Either way, the crowd begins to wordlessly disperse.

"So, Lord Artois, what can we expect to see in this competition?" Parker asks. "What are we expected to do?"

"You will be challenged by various minor houses and knights, to prove your skill. Once you prevail in those, you will be pitted directly against the Reikland envoy to decide once and for all who is more worthy." Lord Artois explains. "But enough of that! Let us leave this castle and return to my lands. I shall teach you the true spirit of Breton then!"

You kind of wonder what he means when Lord Artois talks about the "true spirit of Breton"...
