It seems clear to me this is some kind of infiltrator doppleganger trying to integrate into society changeling style by replacing dead people. Beyond our current predicament I think the interesting questions are: is there more of them, why are we immune, are there more like us. And is its power reality warping or just mind fuckery. If it can warp reality it can easily foil our attempts to neutralize it unless we surprise it. However if it just controls senses, if we boobytrap a room it will get hurt even if we're tripping in its la-la lands in the meantime.

Originally, quests were like this one, where each/most of OP's posts had a unique picture to go with it (though back then there was more wat do for players). Quests without those hand drawn images were text heavy - really text heavy - and the writers were, well, good.

tl;dr I'm an oldfag who thinks the old quests were better because I'm looking through the lens of nostalgia
