For a moment you get the idea that dad was going to try something. Then the front side door opens, and _someone_ climbs out, holding their hands up.

Seconds later your brother and your dad follow, and soon you're all standing in front of the soldier, who looks increasingly twitchy.

"Okay, sweep them," you overhear.

"But I've only got one shot on this thing! What if there's more than one?" the soldier in front of you replies, his voice panicky.

The soldier's gun has a sort of boxy device attached to it halfway along the barrel. Some wires run from it to a silvery metal box he's wearing on his back. You've never seen anything like it. He seems to hold it as if he's scared it might explode at any minute.

The soldier with the pistol shouts in surprise, but then he is just _gone_. More things are rearranging themselves around you. One of the military trucks _disappears_. Then the tank just seems to _wink out_.

And then the soldier in front of you, his line of fire helpfully cleared, levels his weapon and shoots.
