We can all agree that Sci Fi without the "chromatic space babe" is boring garbage, right?

It's a staple of the genre, and trying to subvert it always comes across as boring. Besides, it's fun.

Personally I hate the wave of "hard sci fi" obsession that's been hammered into all western media for the last decade.
>>

The sad thing is that its easy enough to explain even if you want a reasonably hard sci-fi feeling.

Green/blue skinned space-babes are an establish enough trope of cheesy science fiction that I felt compelled to include some in my homebrew sf setting. I'm a big fan of old scholocky sciffy in general, so that also helps.

Although I though making alien races that were literally "humans, but different colour" was kind of boring and didn't make much sense, so I made them amphibians with slimy skin and tendrils for hair. Still doesn't really make much biological sense, but at least they aren't just recoloured humans now. Not that I really cared about realistic evolution for my alien races. The same setting also has literal starfish-aliens and a race that looks like space-devils (which is also a dumb reference to shitty old science fiction films, as there are two separate films that got released in ym home country with the name "devils of space").
>>
>>41527261
But blue looks much better, hence why these days blue space-waifus wastly outnumber green ones.

Are you shitting me? Every sci fi movie nowadays tries for realism. Gravity, Elysium, Interstellar, nu-Robocop- everything's gritty and obsessed with realism.

It fucking sucks. I don't even waste my time with hollywood scifi anymore.
>>
>>41527706
Actually, I was referring to two B-movies from the 50s and 60s, that had a different name in English, but when released here were retitled to "devils of space" (in my native language, though). OK, one of the movies wasn't actually shitty; it was "the Invasion of the Body-Snatchers", which is actually pretty good film, as far as old-school SF goes. Can't remember what the other was, though.
The point is that the name sounds actually really silly in my language, so I felt compelled to reference it (though the space-devil race is actually pretty neat. They're pretty much a weird combination of Assyrians, Romans and the more morally questionable parts of the Tau Empire).
>>
Complaining about films belongs in /tv/.

Its actually even worse so both of you can be mad. Its 'realism' style. Its suppose to look and feel gritty without actually having any consistent thought behind it, its just a style filter. So its both not realistic, and not fanciful.

Part of thinking aesthetics are like soda flavour and separated from content.

No, we can't agree. Purple could be endurance.

The sort of nut case that can sunbathe on a world beneath a neutron star only only get a tan, can go for extended space walks with nothing but a bag of air with a straw and only complain that the lack of gravity ruined her hair, the sort of disaster that can repair a fusion reactor whilst its running by hand without special equipment.

You can like stuff like that, but don't pretend it's sci-fi. It's space/future fantasy.

Also I gotta say you're a giant magical-realming pleb if "has to have different coloured wimmins XD" is your criteria for a good setting. Your obsession with it shows by the sad fact that you a) falsely believe it to be a staple and b) think that anything different is going out of its way to subvert it.

>>41529111
Why is it 'low'?

Grey are incapable of enjoyment.

>>

While I mostly share your taste in alien vaginas I do believe technicolor space babes have a place. That place should probably be "genetically modified transhumans," but it's easy to posit that their culture just got isolated and forgot its origins, or something. Space is big, it happens.
>>
>>41529445
I didn't personally picture collecting big piles of them, more just having our small crew entirely made out of CSBs. So you might have five CSBs at a time, and they'd be attached to you (nearly as much as PCs are in normal games). Less "I hired you, Green SB no. 352", more "you freed Ayla from the drug-lord Messer's trafficking rings, and now she'll serve you to the death with all the dirty combat skills and black-market wheeling and dealings she's been forced to pick up to survive".

>>
>>41530077
I sort of know a little bit about others but in terms of direct experience yes
>>
>>41530102
Huh. You've got some neat ideas for someone who's only played the McDonalds version of CCGs.

Spells would be "orders" or "commands" or something similar. And they could benefit certain space babe compositions over others- for example, "gain one attack per red space babe". This would add further pressure to your drafting.
>>
>>41530081
The same thing? I mean if the crew is spacebabes anyway, that's exactly what's happening. The spacebabe crew is Space Adventure Squad.
>>
>>41527181
Science Fantasy still counts as Science Fiction anon.
>>
>>41530168
In my head, and this may be too complicated, the resources would be Power and Orders. So, the player could activate the laser cannon chair with an order and some power, for example, then play a "spell" (not sure what those would be called) to reverse the polarity and do extra damage or something. The engineering chair, obviously, would be able to generate extra power by debuffing other chairs (at the cost of an order).
>>
>>41530232
That would be ok if I still get to reroute power from one thing to another thing at some point.

I have slightly more than this, but the basic update is this:
>all units are equal in value, pickup games are in "x dudes" format rather than "x points"
>first player to score a certain number of points wins
>generic fightan units don't really do much in terms of scoring
>upgraded fightan units give the opponent points if they are taken out
>non fightan units can be entirely passive (or merely garbage at fighting) but give the opportunity for their commander to generate points
>units are race, outfit, and equipment (usually one item but some outfits allow multiple slots)

>getting into magical realm territory
Anon, we're making an RPG about alien space babes. The realm has been breached.

But I do like the idea of creating a Retro Space Opera game and having multi colored space babes in it. You would need a class for a sword carrying Planetary Romance guy, an intergalactic policeman like a Lensman, a space frontiersmen (Not a "space cowboy". Think John Wayne over Han Solo) because there were a lot of "use this western plot but in outer space" stories in Galaxy Science Fiction. Even Star Trek was called a "wagon train to the stars" and had a "frontier settlers get a shipment of wives" episode.

Some sort of "evolved" class. Like a Slan or a kid from "Star, Bright" or Childhood's End.

Any other ideas for classes for Retro Space Opera the RPG?

Any ideas for a more fetishy space babe RPG?
>>

If you want to crank the fetish gauge up a notch you could have slave owners pitting their collections of CSBs against fight managers or other slave owners.

Questions about CSB Catfights the RPG

Should normal Earth girls be involved? Have them fight back and show all these men-stealing aliens that Terran women can be sexy fighters as well?

How about throwing in robots? Catgirls?

Mechanics wise, maybe robots can be "cheat" options? Gynoids, atleast the really OP ones, aren't normally allowed in CSB fights but you can take a risk and try to smuggle one in. It'll be a nod to all those "robot sportsmen" stories.

Lots of fun scenarios as a fight promoter.

The Princess of the Orange people occupying the Green homeworld is going to fight a submission match against the daughter of the Green freedom fighter/terrorist. You can fix the fight in one of the girls favor, but who do you choose?

A perky Terran girl is kicking ass with the ancient fighting styles of boxing and jujitsu and she wants to pass on the fighting style. Should it be to a fellow Terran or to an alien? Should humanity keep its ace in the hole fighting style to itself or should there be a free flow of martial arts knowledge?

Should some races just be better than others? It could be interesting to have underdog races (could rig fights in their favor when they're on their homeworld and then throw them to the wolves when you're out of there).
>>
>>41537265
Priestess, maid and beach wear are filed under damsel. Space suit is probably trooper (though maybe some beach wear would be filed under trooper too, who knows). Coveralls are actually their own job, so they qualify. Basically outfit is job, not an aesthetic choice.

There's plenty of optimistic stories from that time as well. Partly because the editor of one of the biggest SF magasines was a big fan of HFY and mandated the stories should feature humanity being awesome (this was also partly because before that the market was saturated with shitty War of the Worlds knockoffs, and he wanted to get writes to do something else).

The beginning of the space age in general was a pretty optimistic period, as it seemed we'd get to other planets within a human lifetime, and technology was advancing at amazing rate. While science fiction has a tendency to be reactionary and present problems caused by takign new technology to the extreme, you also had large amount of stories of brave space-explorers exploring new planets and dealing with problems using their ingeniuty.

Reds and Blues have never managed to form stable governments of their own. They lack the temperament for it.

Reds are too fiery tempered and fractious. The moment they build a nation it immediately falls apart, tears itself to pieces from the inside out and often as not civil war.

Blues are too depressed. Its hard to be a ruler when they have to keep sharp objects away from you. If they try to rule anything but other blues they quickly promote one of the locals and abdicate/retire/runaway/are found hanged. They don't want a crown. They just want a hug.

Greys have never founded their own government at all, ever. They rely on others to do that. Usually the Blacks.

Grey power comes from the fact that they, and only they, have the mental aptitudes to make, maintain, repair and operate the Warp-engines. They tried making robots to do it but something about it drives AI insane.

Blacks usually end up in positions of power. They tend to be ambitious and extremely good organizers. They tend to be back-stabby. Unlike the Reds they keep the back-stabbing discreet.

Greens tend to rule themselves. They tend to rule only themselves. They have few planetary governments but build small fortified enclaves on as many worlds as possible.

Greens are all about survival. If they spread themselves far enough they can never be exterminated and there will always be somewhere for reinforcements to come from. It also ensures that they get invited to every war that happens. Its like sport to them.

Purples are too ditzy to do governmenting. They much prefer to fly around on star ships and finding beaches to sunbathe on.

Out of currently ongoing series, Defiance has been pretty good to fantastic (depending on the season), killjoys has been alright so far, and dark matter seems to be getting pretty interesting as well.

Aside from the pretentious fanboy crowd, noone gives a shit about firefly. It's already a faded memory behind whatever's on HBO, and noone outside of your social group is going to remember it.

Serenity was shit and that's the closest thing to ever seeing Firefly in anything again.

Except that wasn't all that good eithier. Anime in general never is.

Honestly Firefly just comes off as another Joss Whendon product. It might be the fact that I dislike his stuff so much now that has soured it for me but even in hindsight the only character I liked was Jayne and Wash.

The rest were kind of meh.

>Space Captains traveling the galaxy, collecting a crew of Chromatic Space Babes
Are we doing this like a full RPG, or are we making something like the Tower Girls, but with alien babes?

I'm honestly up for either option at this point.
>>
>>41542872
It depends on whether we first attract an artist who sticks around long term or a decent rule sperg who can write clearly.

>another tower girls

Please no. That shit is even worse than quest threads.

Firefly is *only* liked by hipsters, anon. The kinds of people who'd say shit like "oh, I don't like any of this modern stuff, just this show that got cancelled because it was too good SO SAD BOO HOO IF ONLY WE HAD THIS INSTEAD OF THE KARDASHIANS".
>>
>>41542626
It's not bait just because you disagree with it, anon.

Reddit sure is out in force today.
>>41542627
Possibly, but I remember it being quite meh and played-out when it came out.
>>
>>41543056
I watched it when it was on the air and liked it. So did several of my friends. We were sad to see it go.

Personally I hate the Kardashians, but only because I think they're retarded and dragging humanity down. Just like most of "reality" tv shows are and the same with modern day news. All of is a cheap attempt to get views so they can squeeze out a bit more advertising money. None of it is programming designed to make people come back and watch it.

That being said, that is not all modern media. I do really enjoy some shows that have come out recently, such as Agents of Shield.

You are proof that humanity has evolved to create a new breed of man, the Uberpleb.

Wow people actually exist who like agents of shield

Aww did widdle babby accidentally mistake /lit/ for a good board

Nothing's being mentioned about /lit/

But I guess you're on /tg/, whining like a cunt about books because it'd get moderated there or something
>>
>>41543214
>>41543224
I should specify I liked the first season.

I don't like Joss Whedon as a person, I think his beliefs are retarded for the most part.

Also, you watch a few episodes of Lizard Lick Towing on "True" t.v. and tell me that shit isn't dragging down humanity.
>>
>>41543269
Nah, I just hate retarded hipsters like you who actually think they're better than everyone else for liking something different.

Also
>He likes moderation
Oh I'm sorry, did someone once say something to you that offended you?
>>41543276
No media can ever possibly drag down anything. We can drag down media, not the other way around. If something's successful and popular, it's because it's what people like- sorry bud, but that's how it works.

>hipsters

You're the one railing against the majority of a genre for a single arbitrary reason
>>
>>41543326
I'm not railing against any part of anything- I'd think OP's a faggot too if I believed he wasn't just being hyperbolic in order to get responses (okay, that's pretty faggoty)- but going the other way and pretending pulpy space opera is somehow inferior is just as disgusting.

I'll actually have some real mini pvp battle game content to post sometime today, though.

Not everything on television is because it's successful or popular. Seriously, some things are just on there for shock value. It's the same thing as clickbait articles online, but applied to television. You get people to view your shit just to bump your ratings. It doesn't matter how shitty your shit is, if it makes someone stare for a few minutes.
