You are KARLA WEISS, a Belkan fighter pilot looking to carve your own place in the skies!

You uh....

You can't actually remember what had happened last night.

The last thing you could actually remember was meeting up with everybody at the bar and getting some drinks...

Aw crap.

Your eyes snap open as you try to figure out where you are. You find yourself...

Oddly enough, you find yourself in the cockpit of the Morgan, sitting tight and snug. A bit perplexed, you look around and find yourself inside the hangar, where the squadron's planes were all stored. You managed to wake up at a rather early hour, as the sun was barely peeking over the horizon, you could still feel a bit of the nighttime desert chill. In addition, the hangar was practically empty, save for yourself. Well, not completely empty.

"Ah, so yer finally awake." Smokey grumbles as he shuffles in with a toolbox.

"Shmokey?" You slur, still not quite recovered from your drowsiness. "What are you doing here?"

"Fixing up this damn plane, of course!" Smokey grunts, rolling up his sleeves. "In other words, doing my job! What are YOU still doing here?"

"I uh... actually can't remember." You admit.

"Oh, well, that makes things awkward." Smokey sighs. "Guess you might want to ask your boyfriend down there."

You lean out to see where Smokey is pointing, down at the foot of the Morgan's front landing wheel. Below, you could see Jager sitting down there like a stone sentinel, his eyes closed. Tarin is sitting next to him and makes eye contact with you, putting a finger to to her lips and pointing to Jager to signify he was actually asleep.

"Said they were gonna stay here till the alcohol wore off." Smokey grumbles as she tears some damaged parts out of the Morgan's fuselage. "Guess they were here all night."

"So Smokey, what exactly happened?" You ask as you groggily make your way down the boarding ladder. "My memory is kinda fuzzy."

"Ah, well, I don't know the specifics." Smokey shrugs as further digs through the Morgan's guts. "All I know is, last night you come barging in here, completely braindead drunk screaming that you need to take off right the fuck now. So, like hell I'm letting you get into an actual working plane, so I direct you into the Morgan."

"I see." You nod, snuggling in next to Jager. Tarin gives you curious look, but you just grin and hook an arm around her shoulder, pulling her in to sandwich Jager in betweent the both of you. "And what then."

"Ha, that was the damn funny part." Smokey chuckles. "And then you start making all these airplane noises like you're a five year old pretending to fly a plane, yelling out random catchphrases and acting like you really were in a freaking dogfight. Man, EVERYBODY was having a good laugh about that!"

"Wait..." Your heart stops. "EVERYBODY? Like, the squadron-"

"The squadron, Samantha, even the Butterflies got a look." Smokey nods.

"Even... even Amy?" You bite your lip.

"ESPECIALLY Amy." Smokey confirms.

Besides, we let our crazy self out often enough around the girls normally, she has plenty of emotional reactions as it is.

"You're not bothered?" You ask her, raising an eyebrow.

"Should I be?" Tarin tilts her head curiously.

Jeez, where the hell did Jager find her?

"Do I even want to know how this happened?" He grunts.

"Because you're such the ladies man!" You say playfully.

"I was roped into this against my will." Tarin says matter of factly.

"You were supposed to wake me when she did." Jager sighs.

"Must have slipped my mind, sir." Tarin responds simply.

You really wonder what she was really thinking under that stoic demeanor.

You then hear footsteps as you hear people approaching.

Normally, you'd be concerned at being seen in this kind of position, but considering what you had apparently gone through last night, as well as being too damn tired to really worry about such a thing.

"Whoa! What's going on heeeeeere!" Lara coos. "This is so cute!"

"It's not cute. It's embarrassing." Jager grunts.

"Oh my, this is rather scandalous." Lilian smiles fondly.

"Ehehehehe, this makes all the shit I went though last night alllllll worth it!" Amy giggles as she snaps a photo on her phone.

"Let me guess. You recorded everything last night." You grunt.

"She did." Jager confirms.

"Yep! Comedy gold, right there!" Amy smiles and nods, and then frowns at you. "It was the least I could do with all that drunk texting you bombarding with me last night."

"Really?" You blink. "I was texting you?"

"All. The. Time." Amy scowls as she shows her phone's screen to you, showing a massive message log, each and every one were variously misspelled variations of "HEY BUDDY, STILL ALIVE?"

(Also if we're watching it, maybe we have a chance to grab it and delete it? ... Long shot, but.)

>"All. The. Time." Amy scowls as she shows her phone's screen to you, showing a massive message log, each and every one were variously misspelled variations of "HEY BUDDY, STILL ALIVE?"

Were we texting her from the Morgan? Or just all through the night?

Either way, we must treasure those texts.

... And also pester her with "Hey buddy, still alive?" again. Maybe we'll put it on a Christmas or Birthday card or something.

"Might as well." You sigh.

"Oh, it's goooooood." Amy snickers as she fiddles with her phone a bit.

All of a sudden, you see a darkened version of the hangar in the screen. However, the video is far from silent, as you can hear lots of snickering and giggling, no doubt from Amy and the others. Then you see the feed turn to Amy's face, poorly framed and shaky due to the nature of handheld cameras.

"So, so, so." Amy snickers, unable to hold in her laughter. "We continue to follow the drunk Karla as she migrates back to her natural habitat, the cockpit of a jet fighter. Obviously, she values them more than actual human relationships."

"C'mon, guys! Theresh a aaiiiiiiiiir raid goin on!" You hear yourself slur sloppily. It was kinda painful hearing your own voice like this. The camera whips back around to see you literally falling into the cockpit of the Morgan as literally every bursts into laughter. You then see yourself right yourself up.

"Skipping preflight seeeequence!" Your drunk doppleganger roars. "I'm taking off! ENGAGING THE ENEMY!"

And then the next few minutes are you making FWWWOOOOSHHH and RATATATATAATTA and other creative onomatopoeia of a fighter jet in combat. Occasionally you'll yell out "He's on my tail!" or "Splash one bandit!"

"You're quite the actor!" Lilian grins.

"I'm gonna put this up on Youtube!" Amy cackles.

"If I do that I can't guarantee the Hoggie's safety." You say, referring to Amy's most favorite plush toy.

"You wouldn't!" All three of your squadmates gasp.

"I would. I'm Belkan, after all." You give an evil grin.

"Fuck. She's right." Amy groans.

"Nah, Karla wouldn't do something like that... would she?" Lara asks.

"I actually wouldn't put it past her, given how her and Amy's twisted friendship works." Lilian shrugs.

"We're not friends!" You and Amy scowl simultaneously.

"Suuuuure you aren't." Lara snickers.

"It looks like you two are." Jager points out.

"Quiet, you." You respond. "This is squadron business."

"I'm sure it is." Jager grumbles.

"Anyways, I gotta tell you all to SCRAM!" Smokey yells as he pokes his head out from one of the Morgan's open panels. "The rest of my crew are going to be arriving any minute and we're gonna need all the space we can get! Unless you don't WANT your shiny new plane!"

"All right, we'll go." You sigh as you get up, but your knees buckle from weakness, only to be caught by Lara and Amy.

"Hah, looks like you ain't fully sober yet!" Lara grins. "How about we get some Wild Card approved INSTANT SOBER in ya!?"

"Um, sure?" You say nervously, unsure of what Lara was talking about.

"Well let's goooooo!" Lara says cheerfully, dragging you along.

"Hey Jager, Tarin, you two coming along?" You ask.

"Well, someone has to make sure you come out of this alive." Jager sighs.

Tarin silently nods.

Lara and Amy drag you back to the barracks, where they commandeer the kitchen. The first thing they do is start brewing a pot of black coffee. You're about to comment how their "fix" seemed simple enough, until Lara, Amy, and Lilian started digging through the cabinets and drawers for "ingredients. Raw eggs, tabasco sauce, steak seasoning, mustard, and more. Your stomach churns even more when the girls pour the entire mix into a blender and let it rip. You're rather surprised that the final product actually looked like coffee, but you knew. You KNEW it was anything but.

"Well! Give it a try!" Lara says happily, sliding a mug of the devil juice in front of you.

You look at the ugly mix somewhat reluctantly and take a deep breath. You were Belkan, and couldn't afford to be shown backing down, especially with Jager here! Biting your lip, you bring the mug up to your lips.

"Holy shit she's actually gonna drink it!" Amy whispers.

"SHHH!" Lara hisses.

Well, it was too late now, but you shoot them a poisonous look nonetheless before downing the mug in one gulp.

Your vision suddenly goes white, and your entire body tenses up as if lightning were shot through it. All of a sudden, reality hits you like a brick wall moving at Mach 2 as light and sound come crashing back, sending your head spinning.

And surprisingly enough, you find yourself much more clear headed.

"I did not expect that to work." You blink. Then the aftertaste hits, sending you reeling.

"Yeah, we never quite figured out how to get rid of the aftertaste." Lara laughs. "But you'll get used to it!"

"I somehow doubt that." You groan.

"Oh, there you girls are!" Samantha chides as she walks in, now back in her regular suit and carrying a clipboard and papers. "There's actually a situation going and- oh, I could REALLY use some coffee..."

Samantha then picks up a mug of the devil juice.

You think about saying something, but you decide not to say anything, since you're interested to see how Samantha would react to the mix. You see her take one sip before her eyes widen to the size of dinner plates.

"GAAAAAAAH!" Samantha roars as she tosses the mug away. "WHAT KIND OF COFFEE IS THAT?!?"

"Very terrible coffee." You say in agreement.

"Oh my god, oh my god, it's just so-" And then Samantha passes out. Jager quickly rushes forward and catches her, making you feel a bit jealous.

"Uh oh." Lara frowns.

"I guess it's because she had no alcohol in her system to counteract him?" Lilian suggests.

"Or maybe she's just a real lightweight." Amy shrugs.

"You know, I think she was here to give us a mission." Lilian sighs. "Maybe we should try waking her up?"

"What? In what way?" You frown.

"Lots of riots and protests going on." Samantha sighs. "The government just announced that they would be deepening ties with Osea. It's got the conservatives and old timers up in arms."

"Any current intel?" You ask further.

"Only what the news are reporting." Samantha remarks. She then turns on the television in the common room and flips to the news channels.

"Talks with Osea for a possible Osea/Belka economic pact are still continuing." The report says against the backdrop of the main Dinsmark capitol building. "This would grant open borders and free trade among both nation, which would be the first major agreement between both nations since the end of the Belkan War."

However, the camera then pans to the crowd, where you could see many, MANY people with signs and pickets, all yelling at each other and at the line of police separating them from the capitol building. You could see all of the familiar "DEATH TO OSEA" flags and "OSEA LOVERS GO HOME!" signs. Those evoked some pretty unhappy memories of your early years in occupied North Osea.

"As you can see," The reporter continues, "this treaty is extremely controversial among the Belkans people, with many welcoming an opportunity to improve Belka's failing economy, while others still consider Osea an enemy that should not be dealt with. Our polls indicate that public opinion is almost split exactly 50/50."

"As you can see, things are pretty rough down there." Samantha sighs. "Of course, both Belka and Osea are keeping a close eye on the protests in case something happens, especially with OB lurking around waiting to cause trouble."

"I see..." You frown. "And the Belkan SDF?"

"Fully deployed." Samantha says grimly. "The first time since the War, too."

"In a way." Uncle sighs. "Protests and riots are breaking out all over Belka. They're rather small and isolated for now, but we're seeing patterns, trends, shadows of a larger plot lurking in the background."

"An OB plot?" You ask, concerned.

"They're most likely involved, but possibly as pawns." Uncle says. "There's been lots of money moving around, too. Foreign money."

"Really?"

"Yes, a belligerent Belka seems to be in the interests of certain nations and groups." Uncle says grimly.

Exactly like that. It feels more organic to see a relationship build that way--more natural. We like to think that love can be quickly born from gigantic, spontaneous events--and that it lasts from there on out.

Maybe I'm just an old fashioned fuddy duddy, but I like the stupid, honest, simple love that builds from just a mutual attraction and compatibility.

Problem is that for the last 40 threads we were in the middle of a mission and haven't had any downtime or such to be able to return to those moments, and the moment we get the first chance for that, its just taken away from us off screen and we're thrown back into the action again. It's the entire opposite ratio of pacing that should be happening, the action is just grinding us down and we can't just relax between mission and enjoy things.
>>

Yep, thats one thing Ghost does real well, paces the downtime and action well and makes the downtime relaxing and long enough to give the action real impact and punch. "Well, we've put the Belkan self defense force on full alert, just in case. We're also keeping an ear close to the ground to anything that might happen behind the scenes." Uncle assures you. "If anything were to happen, we'll be ready to respond."

"How about Milly?" You ask, a bit concerned for your "squire".

"She's on full alert with her squadron. They're performing CAP over Dinsmark right now." Uncle says.

"Are they enough?" You ask pointedly. "Is there anything I can do to help?"

Because opinions toward Pixy in Belka are... mixed, let's say. But potentially, his plane might be of use as an image; maybe it'd work to tell the OB folks "get fucked" and make the ultra-nationalists rethink things.

A message that might say anything from "Remember how things turned out the last time things got taken too far?" to "The Solo Wing's plane and color flying against One Belka and ultra-nationalism".

(And on the other hand if it could make things worse, than he'd tell us so, and we'd probably not use the red-wing paint scheme then.)

"Sure thing." You nod and turn around. "Hey Samantha! I might have a possible job offer here!" You say.

"Really?" Samantha regards you with a combination of curiosity and eagerness.

"Yeah, my Uncle is looking to hire." You say, handing to the phone to her.

"Huh, okay. It's odd to see Belka asking for mercenaries." Samantha takes the phone from you and turns around. You can hear her murmuring as she talks with Uncle, though you can't make out what she's saying.

"Hey, so are things going all right at home?" Lara asks, her concern evident.

"Not really." You sigh. "But nothing's happened yet, which is good."

"I dunno. My dad said it was this sort of stuff that led to the Belkan War." Amy bites her lip. "I don't want to jump to conclusions..."

"Well, let's just all hope cooler heads prevail." Lilian says.

"Jager, what to you think?" You turn to your ground combat expert and sometimes escort.

"More money for us if conflict breaks out." He shrugs. "Though I'd rather see it someplace else than our homeland."

"Leave it to a Belkan to be cold as ice." Amy rolls her eyes.

Finally, Samantha returns your phone and regards all of you with a careful eye.

"So, how do you all feel about going on a super secret, super dangerous mission with a high possibility of an international incident if we're found out?" She asks.

So... business as usual?

When you think about the developing situation, it's kind of hard to expect the kind of downtime you're talking about beyond short bits of humor, to be honest.

We've gotten past the initial filler episode stages, we're now entering (another?) major arc, if not an overreaching arc, from how it feels to me.

I kind of see what you're getting at, so I don't completely disagree, but this isn't slice-of-life Ace Combat, where we focus on interactions away from combat.

It's Endless Sky: Ace Combat, with a kickass pilot that we give all sorts of direction to shred enemy pilots, and who is going to be in the thick of what's looking to be serious business the more we get details and the more that we tangle with OB and the "certain nations and groups" that Uncle mentioned wants Belka to be belligerent.

You might just have to wait until after the mystery mission that's just been dangled in front of us, depending on how Merc decides to run things.
>>
>>41600636
Given your level of reading comprehension I'm not surprised you get that from my posts.

Actually, that reminds me -- what do we know about what our fellow aces are famous for? (And also how did Lilian and Shiba's reunion go.)

We know that Lara's picked up some fame for the AC 6 war she was in, and that Amy is famous in Ustio.

But we don't know WHY Amy's famous. Nor what makes Lilian stand out as an ace.

Because (and I just stumbled across it while rereading Thread 14, where we first meet the Butterflies), the Butterflies said this:

>"Well, still, that's awesome stuff!" Dawn grins. "We uh, actually don't have any kills yet. so we really look up to you!"

>"Is that so?" You blink.

>"Right now your squadron pretty much has all of the world's most famous female aces." Echo points out. "So it's only natural, I guess."

Karla got a bit of fame from the Air Show in Ustio, so that was obvious. But what makes Bravo flight *the* most famous group of female aces? Is Amy just famous for her dad (and the Ustio Air Show now), and Lilian for her taking up fighting while being from a wealthy and philanthropic family?
>>
>>41600687
You have no valid complaints. "Bawwwww Merc is putting combat in an action-focused quest" isn't a valid complaint, it's you wanting the quest being something it isn't.

>>41600688
You never had a point to begin with.
>>
>>41600698
This is actually a rather interesting point
>>
>>41600698
This is what we miss out on with Merc's recent pacing. And last time I checked Ace Combat games managed to develop its cast despite its combat heavy nature, otherwise certain player punch moments wouldn't work.
>>
>>41600664
>We've gotten past the initial filler episode stages, we're now entering (another?) major arc, if not an overreaching arc, from how it feels to me.
The problem is its not entering a new arc, its just more major arc, is going wacky fun arc> major arc> filler arc> major arc> wacky fun arc> major arc> major arc> major arc> major arc> major arc> major arc> major arc and its really just tiring me out, I give less of a shit now than I used to, when it should be the opposite considering the position of the story now.

>but this isn't slice-of-life Ace Combat
No one is arguing that, what we're arguing is that we're playing Karla, a human being, a character who has wants and needs outside and inside of her job, and right now we've ceased being Karla, and we're just Generic Disembodied Pilot Voice Inside MC Plane #4423

>You might just have to wait until after the mystery mission that's just been dangled in front of us, depending on how Merc decides to run things.
And herein lies the issue, we've been waiting, we waited for the mission prior to the previous mission for that, then we got thrown into the Gyges mission, which we waited through and fought through for another chance, and yet again straight into another major arc...
>>
>>41600698
>"All right." You shake your head and smile. "How about this. Stick close to me and my squad and we'll make sure we all get out of this, okay?"

>"Okay!" All four girls affirm.

>"And here." You hand them your card. "Whenever you got free time, youc an always do a few sim battles against me. How does that sound?"

Oh hey sim battles. I forgot about that. At some point we should probably take them up on that, huh. Especially since back then they hadn't even had any kills; whereas now they've faced off and flown in a good number of missions, huge battles, and I think faced several Aces too.

I think we had a brief mock-fight against the Butterflies in one of our previous threads, but that was about it? So now we might be able to see how they've improved.

It'll be interesting; maybe before we go, we can promise them a sim battle once we come back from our mission!
>>
>>41600708
You've gone from disagreeing with valid complaints, to shitposting and trying to deny their existence entirely, thats just pathetic.
>>
>>41600698

Funny thing?

A lot of the things you mentioned are VERY good questions.

Fact of the matter is, I've hardly noticed any anons (if at all) suggesting that these questions be ASKED when we've had the opportunity to write one in.

While obviously Merc will add details in when needed, if we never think to ask these kind of questions, well...it will likely not come up unless it's important to the plot, I'd wager.

>But what makes Bravo flight *the* most famous group of female aces?

Waaay back at the beginning, Lara mentions something about the fact that Artemis doesn't have many female pilots to begin with, and prefers keeping them together, iirc.

Just by virtue of that, and considering the battles and situations we've been a part of so far, I'd wager we're Artemis' premier female unit hands down, and that alone probably garners us a LOT of attention. As much as I think it's awesome, something tells me that all-female units aren't exactly that common despite us meeting the Butterflies.
>>
>>41600763
>No one is arguing that, what we're arguing is that we're playing Karla, a human being, a character who has wants and needs outside and inside of her job, and right now we've ceased being Karla, and we're just Generic Disembodied Pilot Voice Inside MC Plane #4423

>(And also how did Lilian and Shiba's reunion go.)
No idea because once again the previous thread got ruined by lolrandum dice and drunk shennanigans.

We've spent almost no time at all being a character and getting to know the other characters around us, they've just been mechanical plot points circulating around us.

We've had like 3 opportunities throughout the entire quest anon, and we've always had other things butt in or higher priorities.

We used to be an interesting character surrounded by interesting characters doing interesting things, but we're not anywhere near that anymore and it would take a lot of effort to change things and stop this train from derailing.

>its really just tiring me out,

Not really sure what to tell you except I see this as about right, considering that things are ramping up storywise. Wacky fun arcs should be pretty rare anyhow, considering our combat merc status and the quest not really being a comedic, slice-of-life story.

>right now we've ceased being Karla, and we're just Generic Disembodied Pilot Voice Inside MC Plane #4423

I'm not really getting that feel at all from the quest. Like you said yourself, you give less of a shit than you used to, so I'm pretty sure it's your cynicism showing, rather than Karla ceasing to be a person.

Also - Karla is Belkan. She'd likely be a LOT more loose if we had chosen anything else. We even had the option for a write-in waaaaay at the beginning, and anons ended up pretty solidly voting for "dour Belkan".

You run with what you have, and all that.

>41600797

I consider drunk shenanigans as wacky fun, even if it was just a smidgen of it. We spent no time in the air this thread, and outside from plot, we spent time talking with both Tarin and Smokey, something we've done little of so far.

Seems like characterization to me, little as you may consider it.

We haven't hit that point yet, but with the way Merc's been going, we might actaully get to that point.

>>41600766
It'd be a cool thing and good exercise.... assuming Merc actually allows for it.

>>41600785
Well I think most would assume that Merc would cover those considering he's usually good about that. But it seems with this, he seems to be focusing on the action too much. A cynical man would say he's doing it due to his dice fetish.

>>41600838
And it opened up a few subplots that seem to be getting put on the backburner and we'll be lucky to see them brought up again. And most were expecting more of a down time before getting tossed into what amounts to be another big thing.

People are worried because it looks like it'll be 90% action/plane/dice stuff and maybe 10% of character stuff. It's not a good ratio for you.
>>
>>41600865
>People are worried because it looks like it'll be 90% action/plane/dice stuff and maybe 10% of character stuff. It's not a good ratio for you.

The only people "worried" about this aren't worth listening to, since it's pretty clear they aren't actually interested in the quest.
>>
>>41600865
>People are worried because it looks like it'll be 90% action/plane/dice stuff and maybe 10% of character stuff. It's not a good ratio for you.

I'm not too sure what you're expecting from an Ace Combat Quest. Plus I think you're overexaggerating a nonexistent problem. Like merc said, literally the only case where he's had back to back missions was the Gyges mission.
>>
Adding onto >>41600875:

>>41600865
Your math also sucks shit and its completely arbitrary. I'm sorry merc isn't writing high school "anime fighter pilots: the quest" for you, but that is never what this quest was going to be.
>>
>>41600838
Merc, when we can't answer any of >>41600698 it kind of is a big issue, the Gyges mission taking more than a month only made this rear its head when we had what precious little downtime interrupted and rendered useless before being thrown back into the grinder.

Maybe I am making a mountain out of it, but I'm not the only one seeing these issues so there is a problem, and if you just choose to ignore it then you'll just find yourself with less and less players who give a shit because they've just all been worn out and choose to not care anymore, which is frankly just sad considering how well this quest started.
>>
>>41600900
Maybe Merc wants you to leave after you spent half the thread shitting up his quest thread with your concerns that you aren't being given exactly what you want
>>
>>41600875
How is wanting to see the various character subplot progress not being interested in the quest?

>>41600889
I know what to expect from a Merc Command quest and if he wanted it to be all about plane then why bother with characters and subplots in the first place?

What you're trying to get isn't Ace Combat but some shitty knockoff without the character factor that made the series memorable.
>>
>>41600858
>Seems like characterization to me, little as you may consider it.
What characterisation happened? Please tell me because Smokey was just his usual stereotype and Tarin was Tarin, entirely unchanged or undeveloped as always throughout every story. We didn't interact with them, we got spoken AT.
>>
>>41600840
>We've had like 3 opportunities throughout the entire quest anon

No. This is just plain wrong, you shouldn't have to be force-fed opportunities to ask background questions, EVER.

We have had lots of opportunities, especially since we're often allowed write-ins. There have been a lot of chances to ask all sorts of probing, curiousity-solving, background-illuminating questions, or piggyback them onto conversations we've been having with our flight pals.

I'll admit I've been guilty at times of ignoring the opportunities at times, but I've been less interested in details that don't help us stay alive at the current time unless the mood struck me, and it hasn't.

The real problem has been anons have not raised the idea, nor framed a good write-in that would ask the question in the first place. It's just a matter of making a good case for asking the right questions in the first place.
>>
>>41600838
You know what's also kind of a big deal? All of >>41600698 & >>41600766 & >>41600785 none of which has been addressed, just glossed over and pushed to the side off screen to never be remembered when those are the details and little things that matter to us outside of the plane. You have to have that balance, otherwise we may as well just be a sentient air frame.
>>
>>41600918
>What you're trying to get isn't Ace Combat but some shitty knockoff without the character factor that made the series memorable.

Uhh...

Did we play the same games?
>>
>>41600931
a good story doesn't require you to dig up the resolution to subplots, especially as it wasn't the case in any other Merc quest.
>>
>>41600865
>A cynical man would say he's doing it due to his dice fetish.
You don't need to be a cynic to say that, we could have seen all of that last night but nope, now we'll never know. When it just happens again and again and again it stops being cynicism.
>>
>>41600940
>You have to have that balance, otherwise we may as well just be a sentient air frame.

Every time you say this, it's proof that you aren't paying attention to the quest. Karla has a personality and is an interesting character in her own way.

You're complaining because she's not a genki anime, therefore this makes her a robot.
>>
>>41600838
You threw us into a massive fight, which was fucking awesome, but we need to be able to unwind, to process what we went through, to relax, to regain ourselves, and you didn't even let us try doing any of that before going "I HOPE YOU'RE READY FOR MORE ACTION" when we're lying there in a daze wondering what the fuck is going on.
>>
>>41600875
>PEOPLE INTERESTED IN MORE THAN JUST THIS ONE SINGULAR FACET OF THIS QUEST ARE ENTIRELY UNINTERESTED IN THIS QUEST AND ONLY WHAT I SAY MATTERS
>>
>>41600963
You whine so much about this quest and Merc's usage of dice, I wonder how you ever read any of his other quests.

I bet you're still angry about the best girl winning in VMQ2.
>>
>>41600960
She started out that way but if she spends most of her time flying and doing general pilot stuff; it doesn't show.

Well I'm just hoping this trend doesn't spread to VTQ
>>
>>41600889
>literally the only case where he's had back to back missions was the Gyges mission.
and the mission before it, and this mission after it....

Merc has massive problems with his writing currently, technically he's all over the place making loads of simple errors that bring down the quality of his writing, combined with the threadbare sparsity of his writing and upended pacing making problems of its own, yeah, this problem and many others are entirely existent.
>>
>>41600975
Her character does show in combat, it's apparent you're not paying attention to it.
>>
I love how people are bitching about not enough downtime threads in an actual downtime thread.
>>
>>41600895

>>
>>41600914

>>
>>41600986
Well, it clearly wasn't the right kind of downtime, we needed another 20 threads like this in a row without combat, maybe we could have rolled dice and failed a drunken pillow fight, or worked on social links, or tried to get sempai to notice us more
>>
>>41600920
>Please tell me because Smokey was just his usual stereotype

Smokey usually just sits in the background asking us what loadout we want on our jet.

While we didn't exactly take the opportunity to ask anything personal (we DID have the "Other" write-in option available...), we discovered he was nice enough to put us somewhere safe (the Morgan cockpit) rather than let call for someone else to deal with us, and does have a sense of humor (he laughed about our drunken hijinks, rather than his usual grumpy self).

Sure, it ain't Shakespeare, and we missed an opportunity to possibly expand on Smokey's background, but that was player-decided (or laziness) more than anything.

>Tarin was Tarin

Except she surprised us, because we thought she'd be bothered by us keeping her nestled up with Jager. She went out of her way to play along with us despite Jager apparently having ordered her to wake him.
>>
>>41600931
>but I've been less interested in details that don't help us stay alive at the current time unless the mood struck me, and it hasn't
So lots of opportunities then...

>The real problem has been anons have not raised the idea
I was the one who proposed bringing everyone to the bar to celebrate, so we could see how the others were doing, so we could find out how things went between Lillian and Shiba, so don't even try to say we haven't raised ideas, they just get trampled by Merc.
>>
>>41601010
these things didn't happen, obviously, not in the special way that caters directly to one guy whining incessantly

>>41601021
Maybe you should write your own quest instead of shitting up someone else's.
>>
>>41600950

That was more a case of some occasionally inspired or good write-ins, rather than what you're suggesting.

A quest is not exactly a story. It IS a story in a sense, but you get out of it what you put into it.

Again, not saying you lack a decent point, but if you want to be unhappy about something, you should be unhappy about not pointing to these details during the quest and writing a suitable write-in that will help do more of what you are looking for.

Also, I'll respectfully say that you need to look at Merc's stuff closer, you're kinda way off base with what you're claiming about "wasn't the case in any other Merc quest".

Again, it's likely cynicism more than anything.
>>
>>41600972
We have read his other quests, but after a certain point it becomes clear that he seems to have a particular obsession with them with how he makes more and more convoluted rules for them. It's like he wants a massive crit fail (never a good thing for GM or QM)

>>41600982
It doesn't help that he seems to insist on running 2-3 quests at once; maybe that's why these issues are occurring.

>>41600986
there wasn't much down time to be honest, not since it ended with PLOT and YET ANOTHER BIG MISSION.

>>41601004
You're just being a faggot now. People wouldn't be complaining as much if we found out what happened between Lara and Shiba at least.

>>41601010
It was a decent bit yes, though had it happen in a better paced thing or had some more stuff following it, it'd be better received.

>>41601021

>>41600972

>start moving the action out of B7R.

Haha, was B7R starting to feel like Namek for a bit?

Though we actually had a few mini-arcs of doing stuff outside B7R -- escorting President Harling to Belka, meeting up with Milly and Professor Detlef. Flying back, finding the Morgan, etc... Karla's dad, and coming back home to mom...
... Actually I guess B7R was nothing like Namek!

Not to mention that I actually thought that -- though we *have* been here a while -- that the time here was really fucking cool and MEMORABLE.

We saved the damn President. We fought off 3 aces on our own when heading back here. We stormed an old base and got rid of V3. We just captured a goddamn flying command center!

We've sortied against 2 notable fliers in Lilian's fiancée and Amy's dad's friend; and the 3 One Belka aces; we (probably) finally finished things up with one of the 3 OB Aces; we've had LOTS of flying in B7R...

You know what my thoughts on all the B7R stuff was? "Holy shit I really feel like we're one of the famous Aces of the Round Table."

These missions and fights all really felt like the sort of fights that made this place, and the pilots who fly here, *famous*.

"I really feel like a Round Table Ace worthy of the name," "This is awesome!" is basically my reaction here.

Y'know what, maybe all this has been really action-packed and fast-paced? But fuck it, it was some pretty goddamn *sweet* action!

This is the shit that makes people go "I want to be there and make my name in that place" and WE WERE THERE and making it feel that way!

>B7R is where we've made a name for ourselves, and we've still got lots of things to do here, trying to hurry away doesn't make much sense when the work we've started here isn't close to finished.

Is there really a lot to do? We've taken care of the secret Belkan War-era caches. We found clues about our father in one, and pursued it.

We safely shot down Lilian's fiancé and Amy's dad's friend.

We shot down Tombstone, after he nearly got one of the Butterflies.

We went up against one of Ace Combat's superweapons, as is tradition. And even CAPTURED the Gyges.

We've flown against the various megacorps here, and defended our own megacorps.

We've flown alongside Wolf's flight and the Butterfly flight.

We've saved the President and escorted him to safety.

Karla and Lara did an awesome joint combo takedown of a TLS-equipped Morgan.

We've flown against OB Aces like... what, 4 or so times?

Narrative-wise and cinematics-wise, do we have all that much left to do in B7R?

Aside from our interest in the Butterflies, that's more for Atlas in particular to deal with. I expect at some point, the Butterflies will be the ones who have more direct action required for that conflict.

I feel we'll have to put out fires in multiple areas in the long run, and have to pick and choose what particular OB/enemy shenanigans we disrupt for the best effect.

>>
>>41601647
>Uhh yep, theres the whole Atlas/Dahl war going on, theres the other vaults of which there are at least 2 unaccounted for, theres the OB bases and tunnels into B7R and the list goes on.

We've kindof beaten Dahl several times over. By now they're either done, or are hurt enough that the Butterflies (who work for Atlas) can probably handle it. Plus, Wolf's Bravo Flight might be sticking around here still. So Atlas is probably covered.

As for the vaults, we're not sure where the rest of them are. We only had the locations of 2 of them.

As for the tunnels... I kind of get the feeling that either that's something we can't deal with just by flying on the Round Table - OR that the whole tunnel issue (which was a delicate and political issue when we first heard of it) is actually what we might be being sent to deal with next!

>>41601680
>hence possible fears of the area becoming Namek.

Actually immediately after first bringing up Namek, I realized "Actually no it's nothing like that."

We've gotten stuff done and moved some of the plot along while on B7R.

Also, we've also been off it several times and advanced the plot there too. (President, Belkan city, Detlef and Milly. Family; dad, mom, uncle.)

So nah, this is nothing like Namek. Both because we've been getting stuff done, and because we've spent some time off of B7R.

Actually, as far as character interaction goes, Dinsmark (Thread 26 and 27 especially) is probably a good example of it. We met with our Uncle and our old teacher, handled the whole Milly thing (and tied off the "Who was that mysterious pilot in the Morgan?" plot) and so on.

24 through 27 were actually some pretty cool threads, in terms of narrative, plot and interaction.
>>
>>41601761
Why do you? Do I suddenly require proof of some random factoid that you seem fixated on just to enjoy an interactive story?

>>
>>41601673
>So OB using the vaults and hidden tunnels into OUR HOME COUNTRY AND TRYING TO START WAR IN OUR HOME COUNTRY has nothing to do with our homeland?

It does, but according to Uncle, OB is involved, but are quite possibly pawns. He also specifically mentions a lot of foreign money moving around.

That means that OB is not our true enemy. We're likely dealing with ANOTHER nation or group as the real threat, and that's who we really need to tangle with, rather than OB.

Not that we mind screwing up OB plans whenever we can, of course.
>>
>>41601765
>OR that the whole tunnel issue (which was a delicate and political issue when we first heard of it) is actually what we might be being sent to deal with next!

Right now the only proof you have presented is proof that you are a liar with now valid complaints about anything, and you were here today just to shitpost in the thread.
>>
>>41601765
>24 through 27 were actually some pretty cool threads, in terms of narrative, plot and interaction.
Indeed, some more of that would be good, minus the plotberg.

>>41601808
Get a filter you blithering retard.
>>
>>41601808
Would you just shut up already? It's clear all you're doing is trying to prolong a fucking stupid fight.
>>
>>41601824
It is stupid because he's an obvious liar. He's the one who claimed he has definitive proof that our QM likes setting us up to fail, so I'd kinda like to see it.

I'm sure Merc does as well.
>>
>>41601842
>obvious
Right, when all there is are a couple posts in a thread on 4chan of all places, you try to substantiate claims you could do yourself yet instead just endlessly shitpost for no reason.
>>
>>41601842
Meanwhile the rest of us just want you idiots to shut the fuck up already or go be special elsewhere.
>>
>>41601854
I've been searching the Idolrun threads for anything like what you have said and have come up empty so far.

You're a very bad liar, anon. If I could guess, I would say you are Australian.
>>
>>41601905
I'm neither the one who made those claim, nor from that hemisphere.

Thread 24:
>"Now, where were we?" Harling turns back to you and your wingmates. "By the way, just a bit of curiosity, but what units did you previously serve in?"

>"Osean 1st Tactical Squadron." Lilian says.

>"Emmerian 15th Fighter Squadron." Lara says proudly.

>"Um, this is actually my first flying gig." Amy shrugs.

>"Osean 108th Tactical Fighter Squadron." You say.

Well, Amy might be famous only in connection to her father... As for the Osean 1st and Emmerian 15th, I don't know enough Ace Combat to be able to tell if that's significant.

Somebody made a post speculating about Lara though.

>Huh, Lara's pedigree takes her straight out of Windhover squadron

Guy named Sentinel seems to have IDed her as Lanner.
>My theory is still that Lara's former callsign is Lanner

>Fucking nevermind
>http://acecombat.wikia.com/wiki/Lanner
>CONFIRMED

"Lanner was a member of the Republic of Emmeria Air Force's 15th Tactical Fighter Squadron. She was the only known female Emmerian pilot in Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation. She, like Daniel "Windhover" Pollini and "Saker", flew the F-16C Fighting Falcon. She often commented on how there was not a man in the sky who could touch her. She, along with her squadron mates, lended combat support to Garuda Team on numerous occasions throughout the Emmeria-Estovakia War and took part in many of that conlict's major battles. Her fate is unknown."

So, we've got something on Lara at least.

>Deployment: Anean Continental War
◾Invasion of Gracemeria
◾Raid of Vitoze
◾Battle of Sipli Field
◾Battle of Bartolomeo Fortress
◾Anea Landing
◾Battle of Silvat
◾Battle of Selumna Peak
◾Stand-off at the Dead Sea
◾Battle of Ragno Fortress
◾Fort Norton Infiltration
◾Operation: Free Gracemeria
◾Gracemeria Patrol
◾The Destruction of the Chandelier

So, that looks pretty impressive at first glance to me, if Lara was at all of those battles?
>>
Why don't we just ask her instead of speculating?
>>
>>41602148
Because we'd roll a nat 1 and wake up after being randomly blackout drunk.
>>
>>41602177
>dicerolls

I dunno what you're worried about, you're not old enough to drink given how much you whine about dice.
>>
>>41602177
Or you could stop getting so rustled by things that are out of your control and learn to roll with the punches.

Hopefully unrelated, is there a reason this hasn't been archived on suptg?
>>
>>41602199
I'm currently nursing a glass of JD so good try anon, but you missed as always.
>>
>>41602218
Every time we've gone to the bar to socialise with friends we end up getting the entire night taken away and shoved off screen.

It already has been anon.
>>
>>41602218
i have logs of merc claiming he was going to abandon this quest because of all the shit posting, real proof of how he was going to kill off karla in the next fight just give me a few minutes to find it but its real trust me

In that case, maybe we should just stop drinking heavily.

No more thinking "Oh this time we'll break the streak and finally roll a 20, you'll see!" and deciding that it's fine to drink this time too.

Just don't get into drinking contests. That way we won't need to roll anything, and we won't blackout.
>>
I like how we're planning to be prudes and have no fun out of fear of bad dice rolls.
>>
>>41602351
Well if Merc wants us to play differently then he needs to not shit down our throats when we try to have fun.
>>
>>41602351
>be an ace fighter pilot
>fear nothing in the air
>refuse to do anything while on land, lock ourselves in our room
>something might go wrong

>>41602367
I hope you don't try to samefag to get what you want, seeing as how you're in the extreme minority.
>>
>>41602351
>I like how we're planning to be prudes and have no fun out of fear of bad dice rolls.

"Stop picking 'Drinking Contest!' each time the option comes up and then complaining when you roll a natural 1 on it" is hardly 'planning to be prudes and have no fun.'

Just don't over-indulge in drink.

Hell, Karla's own thoughts on this topic in the earlier threads was "you've never gotten the idea of drinking till you pass out as a cultural thing" and if you fear that we've lost out on talk time because of heavy drinking... Well, you now know why Karla wasn't so fond of "drink till you pass out" as a culture.

Maybe next time we should just actually stick to the thing Karla already knew all along, and had only had reinforced for her through 2 separate instances of drunkenness, and simply not get into drinking contests.

Hell if I know what he's smoking.

That would be because the complaints were about rolling nat 1s, losing a night of activity, or about connecting IC and OOC actions:

>>41602307
>Because we'd roll a nat 1 and wake up after being randomly blackout drunk.
>Every time we've gone to the bar to socialise with friends we end up getting the entire night taken away and shoved off screen.

>"Stop picking 'Drinking Contest!' each time the option comes up and then complaining when you roll a natural 1 on it" is hardly 'planning to be prudes and have no fun.'

If the topic is about losing actions due to shit rolls, then of course the response is going to look a little meta because no shit.

Although I'm not sure how "I hate passing out drunk!" "Then don't drink so heavily, duh." qualifies as 'a tall heap of bloody metagaming bullshit' so, as >>41602529 said, I have no idea what the hell you're smoking.
>>
Also just noticed that this archived thread's holding at just 1 point after 17 votes. Wow. That's a lot of quick downvotes.

Just how butthurt are these people?
