London's city streets stretch out before you, already showing signs of changing into something new, something alien. Streets you once knew like the back of your hand are growing twisted, unnatural shadows crawling across dead cars and spreading their malignant touch. Soon, the city will become unrecognisable, a notion that strikes you as unspeakably bleak. You, Amelia Bishop, were born in this city and you're increasingly certain that you're going to die in it as well.
>>
After all, your mother died here – in this very apartment, in fact – vanished down the gullet of some hungry demon. Was this really the world that you once knew? More and more, this city is looking like the hell on earth that they, the disciples of the New Way Doctrine, wanted to bring about. A world ruled first by devils, and then by angels. A world populated only by the chosen few, the tenacious few who kept their faith alive through every trial forced upon them, motivated by the thought of basking endlessly in God's light.

You were raised to believe in God and trust in his plans, but this...

>It's not my place to question His will
>Plan or no, I can't be a part of this
>I should leave the ethics to Carnby and focus on survival.

Hell, what are you doing? You're seventeen, damn it, you've got no business trying to shift through the ethical issues here. Carnby can think about that thorny issue – God knows he's not going to be useful for much else. No, what you need to focus on right now is keeping yourself alive. After all, there's not going to be anyone rushing to your rescue.

Alignment shifts towards Neutral

You're dragged out of your gloomy introspection by a sudden flicker of movement in the streets below. Two human figures, a young man and woman, are hurrying through the deserted street, occasionally turning back in search of any pursuit. Even at this distance, it's easy to see that the man is injured and leaning heavily on his female companion. They might be hurrying, but they're certainly not getting anywhere quickly. If they really are being chased by some unseen enemy it won't be long before they're caught.
>>
>>41622750

There's safety in numbers – at least, you want to believe that – but you can't bring yourself to forget that the rules of this world have changed. Those two people down there, they could be desperate survivors fleeing from some grisly fate, or they could represent some as-yet unknown danger. They might not even be human, devils lurking behind a helpless masquerade to lull their prey into a false sense of security.

Yet... what if they were human, and in need of your help? Could you really stand by and let them stumble into their fate? You'd be no better than the monsters seeking to feast upon them. You couldn't save your mother, but this could be your chance to make the world just a little bit better.

>Follow them from a safe distance
>Ignore them. Someone else's problem

It's best to hang back for now and shadow the pair. That way you can step in if it looks like trouble without committing yourself too much. It might give you and idea of who they are, as well, and what they might be running from. Besides, you think to yourself as you cast one last look around the apartment you grew up in, anything is better than spending the rest of your life moping around here. If anything, you welcome the distraction.

They've already got a fair lead on you by now, so you waste no time in hurrying out of the apartment, stepping carefully over the reeking remains of the ghoul you slaughtered earlier. Down the stairs and out into the streets, you take a moment to cast a suspicious eye about for any lurking threats, but there seems to be nothing. The streets are quiet, so quiet that you can hear the distant footsteps of those two desperate survivors beating out an irregular rhythm. Has London ever been this quiet? This time yesterday, you never would have been able to imagine such a silence.

It doesn't take long to close the distance between you and the retreating pair. Their noisy footsteps make it difficult to lose them, and the wavering trail of blood that the man's wound paints on the ground makes it impossible. They're both so busy supporting each other that there's no real risk of being caught, so you take your time in examining them a little closer. The man is taller than the woman – not entirely surprising – but his pained hunch makes it difficult to tell exactly by how much. The young woman, on the other hand... Wait, you think you know her.
>>
>>41622955

That's right! Your eyes grow wide and surprised as you recognise Cassandra Einhart, one of the girls from Saint Sebastian's. Now you have the chance to examine her, it's a wonder that you didn't identify her at once. She cuts a rather recognizable figure, after all. As for how you know her, well...

>You're good friends.

With her blonde hair and blue eyes, not to mention her athletic build, Cassandra could be the poster girl for the Nazi party, but you've never really had the chance to get close to her. Truth be told, you've never seen or heard of her getting close to anyone, except possibly Jesus. You consider yourself a pretty devout person – at least, you did – but Cassandra put you to shame in the faith department. It seemed like she spent her every spare moment on her knees.

No wait, that's not what you meant.

As you're laughing at your own joke, Cassandra turns suddenly and looks you straight in the eye. The silence around you seems to grow deeper, harsher somehow, for a long moment before both of you launch into hurried motion. You drag your smartphone from your pocket and get ready to summon Ripper – and, curiously, Cassandra mirrors your movement. The young man groans as he slides away from her, brushed aside as she draws her own phone from a deep blazer pocket. Her too?
>>
>>41623175

Perhaps it is the surprise in your eyes that gives her pause, for her finger freezes a few scant millimetres away from the touchscreen. “Is that... Amelia?” she asks slowly, carefully. A strange laugh escapes you when you realise that her answer was a tentative one not because of a fear of danger, but because she was trying to remember your name. Polite to the point of absurdity – that was Cassandra, alright. You nod in response to her question and a warm smile breaks out on her face.

“Oh, it's wonderful to see you alive! God must be looking out for both of us,” the devout girl bows her head and kisses the small golden cross around her neck. Seeing that little icon reminds you of your own, a relic from Saint Sebastian's, that currently lies tangled in the depths of your pocket. “Praise be!” she cries, with far too much enthusiasm for your liking.

>Uh, sure. Who's your friend?
>God must have planned for us to meet.
>I don't see much to praise right about now.
>>
>>41623188
>>Uh, sure. Who's your friend?

>I don't see much to praise right about now.
Everybody knows God's a dick in SMT.
>>
>>41623222
Yea but Amelia doesn't know that.

Ohhh but she will someday.
>>
You don't see much to praise right about now, you mutter to yourself as you look around the desolate streets. If anything, you're more in the mood to start casting blame than to start singing hallelujah. You weren't really talking to her, more to yourself really, but Cassandra's keen ears pick up on your little comment right away, two spots of colour rising up in her cheeks as a sign of her anger.

Alignment shifts slightly towards Chaotic.

But, uh, who's your friend? You ask quickly, hoping to move onto safer ground before Cassandra decides to deliver a sermon. The young man has, by now, picked himself up and dusted himself down. Like Cassandra, he has a shock of blond hair atop his head, but his eyes are dark and set deep into his face. It's hard to say anything else about his features since his face is swathed in bandages, but if the disturbing flatness in the centre is anything to go by, his nose has been ripped clean off.

“This is...” Cassandra begins, but the young man cuts her off.

“Leon. Name's Leon, and I'd be real happy if we could leave the rest till later,” his voice is rough and distinctly accented, an undercurrent of violence leading you to suspect Glaswegian, “Told you, didn't I? It's no safe here!”
>>
>>41623420

Yeah, that's right, you nod along with the rough looking man – although really, he doesn't look much older than you are. When you saw the pair of them, you add, you decided to follow them and keep them safe. It's not too much of a stretch, you think to yourself, and the excuse seems to mollify Cassandra somewhat. With a brusque flick of her head, she urges you to take some of Leon's weight on your shoulder. Together, the three of you should be able to move a lot faster.

The three of you march in stoic silence – save for the occasional groan from the wounded man at your shoulder – until you turn a corner and find yourself confronted with the looming shape of an hospital. You blink and shake your head, confused for a moment. You recognise the building, of course, but it isn't... quite where it should be. You should have seen it getting closer as you made your way through the streets, but...

The world isn't what it used to be, you remind yourself, frowning deeply as the three of you march through the doors – automatic doors that seem to have become locked in the “open” position, thankfully – and drop Leon down onto the first bench you see.
>>
>>41623498

Right, you announce, brushing your hands together as Cassandra goes off in search of supplies. Safe as houses. Now, down to business. As you think of your first questions, you take a good look at the young man. He's dressed like someone adapted to long-term homelessness, complete with a heavy coat and hard wearing boots, and he's certainly not a local. Maybe he'll know something about what's going on here.

“This? Aye, it's no too bad,” Leon winces with the heroic attempt at downplaying his injury. You can see the blood soaking through the bandages, blood running out of what could only be a gaping hole in his face. Face it Jock, it's pretty fucking bad. “Yeah, you're right there,” he admits.

“A phone? You lookin' to make a call?” he takes out an old smartphone – not too dissimilar from your own, and probably more expensive than his entire outfit put together – and holds it up. You catch a brief glimpse of a dog's snarling face glinting on the screen before he swipes the image away. All this time, he had that in his pocket ready to use... “Got it from some fancy speakin' chap where I work. Said he was lookin' for folk to do some “field testin'.”

A fancy speaking chap? Frowning, you describe Professor Carnby to him in as much detail as you can.

“Aye, that's him. Never gave me a name though, seemed kinda shady at the time, you know?” Leon shrugs, as though shady things are nothing new, “As for who I am...”

Taking a brief pause here. Half an hour or so.

“Would'ya believe me if I told you I was just some weary wanderer?” the Scotsman asked with a grim smile and, in that moment, you begin to suspect that he's nowhere near as rough as he puts across. This is a young man with hidden depths, you think carefully to yourself, but that might not be a good thing.

“Oh please, do try and get something out of him,” Cassandra sighs as she returns with a collection of pilfered items. Bandages, gauze pads and disinfectant mostly, with no sign of anything that might kill the pain. “We barely shared two words until you came along.”

“Hey, c'mon!” Leon protests, “You're no cops, you're a pair of... bloody nuns, I don't have to tell you anything!”

That's true, you admit, folding your arms and slipping easily into the role of bad cop, but Cassandra here doesn't have to help you with that bandage either.

“That's not very Christian of you,” Cassandra admonishes you gently, but she can't quite hide the smirk on her face. Leon looks between the two of you for a moment before throwing his hands up in the air. At the very least, he takes defeat with surprisingly good humour.

“I meant it, you know. I'm nobody special, just some dumb kid who fell in with the wrong crowd,” he shrugs heavily, “Got into London 'bout two months ago and found myself some work.” A long pause here as he gathers his thoughts, or perhaps to delay an unwelcome admission for as long as possible. “For Harry Right-Hand.”
>>
>>41624215

Harry Right-Hand? You mean, “king of the criminal underworld” Harry Right-Hand? You say this more for Cassandra's benefit after seeing the look of utter innocent naiveté painted across her face. Not meeting your eyes, Leon nods slowly. Let me guess, you continue, does this “work” of yours involve breaking legs?

“Hey, it's no my fault!” Leon protests lamely, “No my fault if some arsehole don't pay his debts. I'm just an errand boy, right?”

>I don't care about that. What happened to your nose?
>You're hurting innocent people, that's not an errand!
>Serves them right. Maybe they'll remember their place in future.

“S'what I got when I found out what old Harry was up to next. He's got some nasty shite in the works, and I was helpin' him with it. Before all this went down, he had me going 'round all his “clients”, draggin' them back to his club if need be. Said he had a way for them to pay their debts all at once. Course, most of the poor bastards were overjoyed,” Leon grimaces.

“Don't know how he knew what was comin', but he knew. He's gonna buy his way into the good books of whatever monster rules London with 'em. Slaves, food, I dunno what he's expecting, and I don't think he cares. Ol' Harry's just scared of losing power. When I found out what was happenin' I wanted out, so...”

So he didn't like that much, did he? You look at the young man in front of you and try to tell if he's telling the truth. He doesn't look particularly proud of himself, but nothing about his manner seems to suggest a lie. Either way, it's a worrying tale. Cassandra, meanwhile, is looking rather pale as the Scotsman tells his story.

“Ha, got that right!” he forces a laugh, “Cut me bloody nose off, right there and then. Had his heavies hold me down so he could do it himself. Bastards, thought they were decent blokes before that. After that, he sends me right back out there and tells me to finish the job! Been on the run ever since, and I reckon he's got men after me,” Leon rubs a hand through his tangled hair as he thinks, “Maybe not men.”
>>
>>41624547

Interesting, you muse, but where does Carnby come into this? You said you got that phone from him, did he tell you what it was for?

“Protection, he said. I'm new in town, right, and I've got this doctor handin' out toys and tellin' me it's for protection, what am I supposed to do?” Leon takes another look at his phone, “Never actually played around with the damn thing. Gotta admit, I'm no much of a dog person.”

He's a Professor, you correct him, not a doctor. Leon throws his hands up in the air and continues with his story. “I never got to talk much with the do... Professor, but he said,” Leon pauses here as he tries to think back for the exact wording, “He said, “Don't think too hard about it. Just trust your instincts and do what comes naturally.” So I'm thinking to myself, “No problem” and then he just walks right out. Never saw the bastard again.”

Is that so? Before you can press the young Scotsman for more information, Cassandra speaks up. The angry colour has returned to her cheeks, but this time it's focussed on someone else. “We've got to stop him!” she announces, “This... this Harry Right-Hand can't get away with this!”

“Too bloody right,” Leon grumbles, “I've got some payback for old Fat Harry.”

I think we need to worry about ourselves right now. Food, shelter, and how to actually fight with these...things.
>>
Sure, you've got a bit of a colourful history. Sure, you've been involved in a couple of fights now and again, and the police MAY have been involved once, but that doesn't mean you're a bad person. In fact, you think you're a pretty damn good person when you get right down to it. That's why, when you finally digest the full implications of Leon's story, you can only see one possible outcome.

Cassandra's right, you declare, this isn't the time to sell out our fellow human. We've got to stick together, to survive, and for that we're going to need those poor misbegotten souls that Harry Right-Hand is so willing to barter away. We can't let this crime, this assault on common decency, continue. The speech flows out of you with a passion you never thought you possessed and, by the time you've finished, Cassandra is gazing at you with admiring eyes.

Also, revenge is pretty good, you admit, totally ruining the gravitas of the moment but drawing a dirty chuckle out of Leon. “Aye, I knew you were a good sort from the moment I laid eyes on you,” he nods in appreciation, “I don't know much 'bout any “common decency” or nothin' but you've got one thing right. Sellin' people to devils is just plain wrong!”
>>
>>41624915

Though, we can't forget the basics, you add. If we're going to have a mob of refugees to take care of, we'll need all kinds of supplies. If we use this hospital as a base of operations, that's a good start, but we still need to know more about fighting those... things. A big building full of frightened people is likely to draw them like flies to honey.

“Flies to shite, more like,” Leon mutters.

Yes, thanks for that Leon. Really added something to the discussion.

Where to start?

>>
>>41624972

Let's collect some firepower for ourselves. A cricket bat, tire iron, terrible replica swords, police guns, etc. We'll also want to secure food and some kind of generator/solar charger for the phones.
>>

On second thought, getting a weapon would be good. Probably run into a fight anyways while looking.
>>
>>41624972
>Go looking for supplies
>>
>>41624972
>Go looking for supplies
A hospital is great, but its way too huge to secure with just 3 people. We may need to board up a room as a temporary base.
>>
Supplies, you declare, you're going to need all kinds of stuff. Food, medicine, even things as mundane as blankets and spare clothes. As you rattle items off more or less at random, you see Cassandra meticulously copying them down on a little notepad. This hospital is a good place to start – there's plenty of beds, at the very least – but you might as well search the surrounding area as well.

“Hospital food?” Leon pulls a face, “I'm gonna go out and see if I can't dig up anythin' better. I didn't see much lootin' or nothin' when we were out there, so there's gotta be stacks of stuff on the shelves.”

“And I suppose we're just going to take these things?” Cassandra asks, a shrill note of worry in her voice, “That's theft – stealing!”

You took that pile of medical supplies, you remind the devout young woman, pointing at the stack of gauze.

“That's different,” she pouts, “It's the National Health Service. It's SUPPOSED to be free!”

Sure, that makes sense. Sure. You shake your head in dismay, struck by the fact that you seem to have survived the apocalypse with a thug and a neurotic schoolgirl. You'll just go out and do everything yourself then, how does that sound?

Strangely enough, neither Cassandra nor Leon have any objections.
>>
>>41625320

Searching for supplies soon turned into a general scouting trip as you realised just how much stuff there was, just left lying about for the taking. You could tour the streets with a van and you'd still need several return trips to get even a fraction of the goods. Most of the food, you realise with dismay, will soon start to turn bad without any electricity to power refrigerators. The hospital might have a backup generator, but that'll need fuel...

If anything, the list of things you'll need only seems to grow longer and longer as you search, marking the best shops with a can of purloined spray paint. After sharing Leon and Cassandra's company for so long – even though it wasn't that long at all, really – the empty streets seem uncanny. It's almost a relief, then, when you hear splashing water off in the distance. The few fountains you'd passed earlier were all dry, desiccated even, but this one sounds bursting with life.

You track the source of the sound through the streets, making sure to keep as low a profile as possible. Honestly, you find yourself hoping to find a demon, something to test out your skills on. Your hopes are rewarded as, when you draw close to the fountain, you see what was making all the noise.

Might as well give this “recruiting” thing a try, you say to yourself as you open the DevilSP app on your smartphone and touch a finger to Ripper's icon. The novelty of summoning a long dead – if he ever existed at all – serial killer to do your bidding it yet to diminish any, and you can't help but marvel at the ink black shadow that spills out of your phone, slowly taking the form of a man. A well-dressed man, at that, even if you do cringe a little at his ridiculous hat.

Just... just be cool, okay? You hiss to the rapidly forming figure, memories of the ghoul's bloody slaughter flashing through your mind. Just slap her around a little, okay? No... dissections. You want her alive and with four working limbs. Ripper eventually nods, although the gesture is heavy with resignation. You can't fault his results, but does this guy really have to have such a shitty attitude about things?

You're expecting him to run up and start stabbing, no matter what your orders were, but Ripper's actions take you by surprise. He seems to dissolve, breaking down into the inky form he first manifested as before seeping towards the bathing demon like a low mist. Like a shark approaching some defenceless swimmer, he creeps up on the demon and rises up like a deathly cloud, suddenly sharpening into a solid form around her, encasing the demon in a tight chokehold.

That'll do Jack, that'll do.
>>
>>41625810

You approach the struggling demon, listening to her shrill squeals and understanding exactly nothing. At a loss, you decide to raise the phone to your ear as if taking a call and, lo and behold, the demon's voice filters through as curiously accented English.

“Release me human, I've done nothing to you!” the demon – an Undine, you learn as you look at the caller information – hisses. It's true enough, but you're not going to split hairs here. How do you handle her?

What's it going to take, you ask the squirming demon, to get you on my team? The Undine stops fighting at the sound of your words, frowning deeply as if trying to test the measure of them. You shoot a glare back at Ripper, just to make sure the bloodthirsty demon has his knife hidden away as the female demon seems to reach some conclusion.

“Just a taste,” she rasps, in a voice far huskier than her youthful appearance would suggest, “A taste of your essence, so that I might sense the truth behind that offer.”

Uh-huh, and if I let you go? You fold your arms, bringing the bad cop back out again. You're not going to do anything stupid are you? Anything like trying to kill me? Because that WOULD be stupid, you know.

“No tricks. No killing,” Undine promises, before repeating that last part as a plea, “No killing!”
Ah, what's life without a few risks? You nod back to Ripper, who releases the slippery demon. Slowly, as if sensing the knife that might as well be at her back, Undine approaches you and presses her forehead against your own. You sense... strange thoughts, not quite human but almost recognisable nonetheless as your minds touch. The moment passes, and Undine breaks contact with you.

“The pact is sealed,” she hisses, “I am bound to you, human.”

Good, you nod to her, damn good decision. Yet, as you slowly make your way back to the hospital, you can't help but feel a deep fatigue creeping through you. The day's exertions coming back to haunt you, or some sinister side-effect of touching the demon's mind?

Thanks for the run.

Can we summon all demons 4 demons at once like Nocturne or one at a time?

Is this going to be a more self enclosed story or will there be Amala Network shenanigans?

Thanks for the thread. Just discovered the quest and in this instant I caught with it, but I think I can wait until Tuesday to be part of it.

At the moment, you can summon 1 demon at once. You'll be able to summon and store more demons when the new version of DevilSP is released to the public.

>Amala network shananigans

I'm not sure if I'm going to involve the Amala nertwork yet and, if I do, what function it will serve.

What I mean by Amala network shenanigans is people not normally from this universe coming in to take a peak like how Raidou and Dante did in Nocturne.

I don't really like writing other characters, so anything like that would be a pretty brief cameo at most, unfortunately.

>Hey, I heard a man in a red coat has been fighting demons all over the city. Nobody's ever seen him and lived though...
