You are SAMANTHA SMITH, or were, are? It often gets hard to tell, due to the fact that you used to be a slightly overweight nerdy girl and, after falling face first onto a boulder, wound up reborn as a baby Harpy in some kind of fantasy world filled with all manner of creatures. Not to mention, you’ve noticed that without videogames and other electronics, you’ve taken up some new interests like exploring and perching on things. Also, days seem to take really, really long.

Recently, your human father was convinced to take you to see his old adventuring companions, they were nice people and you used the opportunity to climb all over them, learn about how Mom and Dad met, and finally embarrass your father so much he thought it best to take you home for the evening.

Now, tucked under your father’s arm, you are lead back out of the tavern and into the busy streets of TreeBreak as your twin sister looks down at you from your father’s shoulder and your older sister Ciel flutters up to a nearby rooftop to gain a vantage point as your family moves through town. You glance to your father but his gaze seems locked on navigating through the town, then up at your twin, who glances back at a pout. Yeah, you are definitely in trouble when you get back to the nest.

How are you gonna get out of this one Sammy?

Dice System is 1d100, Best of 3 rolls, Roll over the DC.
There are sometimes multiple DCs to a single roll ranging from Critical Fail-Major Fail-Failure-Success-Major Success-Critical Success.

There will be 10-15 minutes for voting and updates will take place on average of 20-40 minutes after I call the vote.

After all sessions I will stick around for Q&A. Feel free to ask me silly questions, tell jokes, and hang out with your QM.

Your QM is a terrible person, but that doesn't mean you guys are.

We knew what we were getting into! Punishment was expected, but joking was worth it!
>>
>>41711242
And then you have one last good laugh at them right?
>>
>>41710961
Eh, you’ll deal with whatever punishment your parents decide to dole out. You decide, nestled under your father’s arm wings pinned to your sides. It was worth it to see your dad flustered around his friends, and you had fun. Besides, what is the worst punishment they could give to a three day old? You rustle your feathers and squirm in your father’s grip as you try to get a better view of your surroundings.

You seem to be passing through the marketplace from earlier but a little different route, must be on the other side of it. The stands are manned by mostly humans in this section but once again the wide variety of non-human species buying things astonishes you men with horns and hooves yelling at each other over the price of wheat, a centaur trying to make her way through the crowd passes not too far from you multiple grocery bags hanging off of her, a bipedal crocodile seems to be trying to sell flowers from a makeshift stand near the end of the booths section.

As your group comes towards the end of the marketplace you notice a small restaurant with rocking chairs out front, some old folks are sitting there, a bunch of scruffy old men and a kindly looking old lady with silver hair and poor eyesight. Two of the old men seem to be focused intently on something that resembles chess, but the board looks different and the pieces seem to be monsters on one side, men and war machines on the other, near them another of the old men rambles on about something you can’t quite hear. You look back at the silver haired old lady and she waves at your family as you pass a smile creeping across her weathered face.

Before you know it your father has made it back to the gate to the city, as you are headed out you glance and notice that this time a figure clad in armor, stands there, spear in hand, as he looks out at the country side.

“Ach, Rupert. Finally, back from your lunch I see. Nice to see the city ‘s still in good hands” Your father says shaking his head.

The old man turns to your father, he has a large grey moustache and his helm covers what is probably a bald head. “Hey, just cause I’m getting old doesn’t mean I am any less capable in a fight. You youngin.” The old man says with a chuckle. “Fourty years I’ve guarded this town, and I’m going to till I drop dead.”

Looks like Sam is interrupting to ask Rupert about his monster hunting. And maybe dropping a line about wrestling before they get a chance to get out of earshot.

Also, Question, Should I make a public character sheet like the other RE:Monster Quests? Or continue on as is?

“It’ll be sooner than ya think if ya don’t pass on the torch, old timer. I know your son never had a knack for the guard life but your grandson?” Your father questions the old captain of the guard.

“Scrawny as a sapling and timid as a mouse, but I’ll make a proper man outta him yet. I swear, ain’t like the good ol’ days back when you had to be strong or capable of magics to make it in this world. By his age I’d already slain my first beastie, kid can’t even fight off a rat.” Rupert says shrugging his shoulders and shaking his head at his absent grandson’s apparent ineptitude.

“Hey, hey! Rupurt!” you chirp up from under your father’s arm. “You ever face any monsters?”

Rupert seems to straighten up tall at your question, you glance over to your father but his face seems to be covered with his other hand.

“Have I ever faced any monsters? Have I ever faced any monsters!? Well little lady, back in the days of the Great Expansion of the Duchy ol’ Rupert here was on the front lines, clearin the path for TreeBreak here to even become a city in the first place.” Rupert points to a small medal his chest plate proudly as he says this.
“Many lives were lost, I fought Orcs, P’orcs, Goblins, Lizards, Bindersnatches, Warblards, Ropers, and even tested my mettle against a Bugaboo. But my greatest victory was against a dreaded Jabberwocky! A scaly beast that was terrorizing this town, but I rode off into those woods,” he continues pointing out into your home forest.
“And with blade in hand I found the beast and woosh,” he makes a chopping motion with hand as if holding an invisible sword “I lopped off its head in one fell stroke, I was hailed as a hero to the people! And that’s how I became the captain of the guard around here!” He says chin held high in his remembrance. “Eh, wait, we were talking about how I became captain of the guard right?”
>>
>>41713572
“Yeah, we sure were, Rupert. An what a tale it was, right girls? Sorry, Rupert, but I got to get them home for the night.” Your father says with a forced grin on his face.

“Ah, another time then, say hi to the Harpies for me.” Rupert says as he returns to his former stature, gripping his spear tightly.

Your father begins walking away from Rupert but you fidget and call out one last time. “Rupurt, you sound tough but daddy could beat you!” you cry out as you are lead away.

“Eh?” you hear the old man say as he raises a hand to his ear, trying to hear you better.

“He wresles Mom all the time as pwactice!” you yell out with a grin on your face, you don’t know if Rupert could hear you or not, but that didn’t really matter, as you glance up at your father, whose pace seems just about a half a step faster than before.

---

Before long you are walking through the farmland that surrounds TreeBreak once more, you are still clutched tightly underneath your father’s arm and from the head shake he gives every time he catches you looking up at him, he has no idea what to do with you. Your twin has taken to climbing back and forth between Dad’s shoulders to relieve her boredom as Ciel continues to be the only one out of the four of you to enjoy being able to fly freely. The sky seems to be heavy overcast, and it smells and feels like it is going to rain soon.

Calling for Eye Spy with our Twin to alleviate boredom.

Writing.

Next Question. Should I pick up the pace of the story?

I know it seems to be doing fine slow like this but there has been a small outcry for getting right to the action.

No i like the pace, It's going pretty good so far, Don't need to go to fast afterall.

You glance up at your twin who has just hopped back to her original shoulder her feathers rustling in the soft wind as your father transports the two of you along the country side road. It should be at least two hours before you make it back to the house so you need to do something to pass the time, and your long boring family car rides, where your Gameboy died on you, remind you of a perfect game to pass the time.

“Hey, Sis, Hey!” You call out from your carrying spot, up to your sister’s perch, prompting her to look your way, tilting her head slightly and leaning forward to try to obtain eye contact.

“Wanna play eye-spy?” you ask her with a grin.

“Eye-spy?” she says inquisitively.

“Mmmhmm. I pick a thing, an then you try to guess it. Is easy.” You tell her excitedly hoping to get her in on the game.

She looks at you like she doesn’t quite get it but nods anyways, its not a hard game to grasp so you are sure she will pick it up once the two of you get started.

You glance around at the farm scape surrounding you there are the stone and wood fences, there are fields of grain and the strange looking cow-like animals grazing. Most of the stuff is grey or brown or green. There are a few colorful flower fields but your sister is sure to get those right away.
Lets see…
Brown fence, brown dirt, brown tree, brown animal-cow-thing, brown fence…
Green grass, green leaves, green moss…
Grey rocks, grey clouds…

You squint your eyes and look off far into the distance, maybe you can find something that your twin won’t be able to see. You glace around for a good little time in your search.

“Eye-spy, with my little eye…” you begin as your gaze dances over objects in the distance, tree, tree, tree, boulder, tree, bush, fence, barn, tree, AHA! That’s it! The brown barn waaaaaay out in that field, it’ll be visible for most of the walk and there is no way your sister will guess it fast with so many other brown things in the vicinity. You’ve got her, hehehe.

“…Brown!” you say cheerfully to your sister, giving your surroundings one last sweep to try and throw her off the trail.

Your sister glances at you and back to where you were looking last. Haha, she’ll never get it at this rate! Never!

“Is it Ciel’s feathas?” she asks you with her first guess.

“Nope, guess again.” You chirp cheerfully.

“Is it Dad’s hair?”
“Nope.”
“Twee?”
“No.”
“Ta Fence?”
“Nope”

Haha, you are a master at this game. She’ll be guessing for the whole trip!

“Dat Building.”
You blink your eyes. No way, there is no way she guessed it that fast.
“What building sis?” you ask hoping that there is some other building out here other than the barn.
“Dat one!” she says pointing one of her talons in the direction of the barn, yep, directly at it.

The look of shock on your face is all it takes for your twin to know that she has achieved victory as you glance from her elated grin, back at the barn, and back at your sister.
“Yes…” you say glumly as your sister practically jumps up from her perch.

“My turn, my turn!” she titters happily, her feathers fluffing out as she bobs up and down happily, her hair bobbing with her.

“Eye-spai…” she says intently glaring out at the surrounding, with a look of determination on her face.
“Somthin Grey!” she finishes as she looks at you a big grin on her face.

Crap, you didn’t expect to be put on the defensive so soon. Your twin must be some kind of prodigy at this game or something, calm down Sam, you just need to focus. Your eyes dart around as you look for what it is your sister spies. Something grey, something grey, something grey…

“Is it the rock?” you ask your eyes darting to a nearby boulder in the field on your left.
“Nope.” Your sister says a grin still plastered on her face as she leans down with excitement.

You continue your search, it can’t be anything difficult, she is way too new to the game to pick something difficult. Your eyes continue their search.

“Is it tha clouds?” you ask your sister as your eyes dart skyward in an attempt to figure out what it is she saw.
“Nope.” She replies her grin broadening and feathers starting to puff out as you fail yet again to guess correctly.

Or maybe she did pick something difficult! Maybe it is something you need to look really hard for, or maybe it is something only she can see from her perch!

“Is it Dad’s hair?” you chirp up hoping to finally get it right.
“Hey, that’s not nice.” Your father says as he gives you a little squeeze for that quip at his expense.
“Nope!” your sister twitters happily as you fail yet again.

That’s it, you’ve been defeated! There is no way you are ever going to get this right. What could there possibly be that you haven’t guessed yet. You glance up at your sister and her victorious grin, damn you twin! Damn you to eye spy hell! WAIT! That might just be it!

“Is it my feathers?” you ask, your last hope flying forth from your lips.
“YEP!” you sister bounces happily as you guess it right giggling as she beats her wings in joy at you figuring it out.

You let out a breath of air you were unconsciously holding in. Your supremacy in eye spy, though challenged, shall continue.

Smaller. Small enough to comfortably sit/stand on your father's shoulders.
Comparatively, Ciel is closer in height to a 6 year old, even though her form says she should be a ten year old.

Will we be getting home to a little sister?
>>
>>41716541
You and your sister continue to play eye-spy for the rest of the way to the forest spying everything from gains of wheat to trees and clouds, the hardest one had to be when your twin picked something black and it turned out to be a fly that was buzzing around and kept landing on Dad’s back, but that’s just cause you couldn’t see back there. You have to say your best one was Dad’s grey hair though. Even he thought he didn’t have one, but you proved him wrong, he had at least three!

The Redwood forest loomed in front of your party as the sound of thunder rumbled off in the distance signifying that the clouds above were indeed ones for rain. Your father picked up the pace, making his way through the forest much faster than he did on his way out, probably trying to make it back to the nest before the downpour starts. Your father moves very fast and as you and your sister were jostled up and down, you couldn’t help but wonder if you stretched out your wings if it would feel like you were flying. None the less your sister was the one to continue eye-spy picking a large boulder as her choice, it was an easy guess as she had already done most other grey things during the course of your little game.

It was your turn to pick when you spotted something moving through the tree line. It looked like an ordinary brown bear, but it couldn’t have been an ordinary brown bear, after all, all the wildlife you’ve seen up to now has been some kind of weird fantasy creature or something. You shake your head and wind up picking a fallen log as your choice.

By the time you hit the ladder up to the nest you can already feel a light pitter patter of water trickling down from the canopy above and a fog has begun to roll in just below the treeline. Looking up you can see that Ciel has already begun flapping back up to the nest proper, leaving Dad to his climb up the ladder.

You look up at your father as he is readying himself for his climb back up the ladder to the nest, he takes in a deep breath as water trickles down from above, no doubt making the ladder slipperier than it needs to be for him to make such an ascent without difficulty. But this is your Dad, after all he must have done this dozens of times, right? You glance up to your Dad as his eyes dart at the rungs headed up the gigantic tree.

“Daddy, I just wanna say I had fun today, an thank you for taking me and my sisters to see your friends.” You say from under your Dad’s arm. He smiles a little as he glances down at you and picks you up in front of him.

“I had a fun time too sweetie, just next time don’t mention wrestling to everyone we meet.” He says placing you on his shoulder. Your gaze shifts over to your twin sister and she nods at you with a smile on her face as your father grabs onto the ladder and begins his ascent up the tree.

You gaze back out into the rainy forest behind your father checking to see if there is any creatures like the Forest Keeper trying to sneak up through the fog and get all of you while he climbs up the wet ladder. You have to say, while the water is chilling and annoying as it drips down from above the way it seems to bead of your few flight feathers is a plus you didn’t expect.

Suddenly, you think you spot something, a small humanoid poking their head up in the distance, their form obscured by the rain. You squint your eyes in an attempt to get a better look but whoever or whatever it was dips back into the underbrush and runs off.

It isn’t long before you make it up into the canopy and the nest proper, Dad having managed to scale the ladder with little to no trouble at all, but you can hear him breathing heavily. Strange, he didn’t seem so out of breath the first time he climbed up. Must be your imagination. You look around for Mom and Big Sis Ciel, but neither seem to be around.

Dad begins making his way for his and mom’s room, not giving time for you and your twin to get off his shoulders.
Entering the room you find your mother huddled up on the feather “bed” with Ciel nearby, upon seeing the three of you enter the room a small smile creeps up her face, a smile of knowing something.

>>
>>41718948
We won the fight for twin dominance, thus our twin is the little sister
>>
>>41718948
we were born close enough together its a mute point and we established dominance so we claim "older sibling" status

As far as the whole "older sister" thing goes. It really comes down to if one believes in the fight to become the dominant twin. If you truly believe in its power, then yes, totally, older twin. Of course both parties have to agree.
>>
>>41719123
So will Eggy's arrival mitigate our trouble?

>>41719123

Nope, just growing your flight feathers and going from completely fluffy to sleek and stylish. Gonna be rocking that grey until first Evo.
Dad thought the game was cute, wonders if it is a harpy traditional game.
Ciel wonders why you keep bringing up wrestling and wonders why Dad seems so upset, but it got her away from having her feathers stroked so it's fine by her.

>>
>>41719933
No joke, I used to do that as part of being an intern at an Aquarium. We had this "Birds of the Out back" exhibit that rolled around every summer and I was often one of the people chosen to go in the noisy, poop rain, birdcage and tell folks how to attract birds and properly feed and pet them.

I had a lot of fun with it. And my favorite thing to do was get 8-9 parakeets and cockatiels to land on me at once like I was some kind of Disney Princess.

Birds have so much sex though. Like 24/7 nonstop in that cage. You cock block one pair only for two more sets to be getting busy on the other end of the cage.
