>You are a villager girl named Ellen from a small village in the nation of Neir, on the continent of Teege. As a member of the local militia/guard, you were trained in swordplay. Your fighting style is best compared to the mercenary class, though you're officially considered a knight of Neir.

The one Wyvern Rider who was forced to stay behind is currently in a detention center in Sharlow Village, the same place you and your companions currently are. "Think I'll send word to Elza asking what to do about that one," the mayor said, "don't imagine holding him here for long is the best of ideas."

Miles and his crew only had around a minute or so to actually express their relief towards Asra's continued safety and living before she became visibly embarrassed and excused herself. She hasn't been seen since, but it hasn't been that long this time. Everyone's sure that this time it's just about doing her usual thing, and the Great Miles besides her are hanging around at that local inn for the moment.

You could probably find Asra if you tried.

Just awhile ago, Bovis returned to you, informing you that "everyone in the village has been told of the threat." You explained to him that it was dealt with since.

Quidel is picking Victoria's noble-born brain. You're not paying much attention to what about.

Gorman is mostly chatting up the town's guards about recent events.

None of you have seen the alleged Peshkatz Group member, but Asra did confirm that one was present as the late Roderick claimed.

For the most part, you just wander the town aimlessly. They have an armory available, but there's not much there you couldn't get anywhere else for a better deal, perhaps in better quality and quantity.

So she won't always have to rely on Ronan, her ancestral weapon, you would later find out that Victoria did get herself an Iron Bow from this place, but that's really about all worth mention about the place itself that's not self-explanatory.

After exiting the shop, you spot Asra walking out of its more mundane opposite with a vulnerary.

She turns to face the desert outskirts of the small town, apparently with intent to head out.

"Have you even seen this person, Asra?"

"Not since being captured, but they said they would wait to kill me until the mission Roderick's wyvern riders were sent for was completed."

"Then that is... Troubling. At least let me help, Asra. It's clear that this person is after you in particular if they're even still here after what we did to those wyverns, and they already caught you once."

Asra, surprisingly, agrees, staying in sight for a longer time than you've ever actually known her to. She's not exactly the best conversationalist, though you're just glad she's letting herself be safe after what almost happened.

"That, uh, that prisoner! The guy Devon put to sleep and got captured. If anyone has a chance of finding this person., it's gonna be him."

"I suppose it would be worth asking. Come, let's be quick about it."

The not-quite-jail of the village is staffed by all of three guards, consisting of all of two cells, a lobby sort of area, and a locked-up back room. You couldn't see any windows into the back room from outside.

In the lobby sort of area, you actually find Miles sitting. Next to him is Bryce, one leg curled over the other, tapping his grounded foot somewhat impatiently.

You don't see anyone in the cells.

"Yeah, yeah, we know we're taking awhile. Some friend of the mayor's flew into town, asked him all nice to speak to the guy we nabbed."

Miles adds, "so you two had the same idea we did, then... Er, Asra, go tell the others that we might be running a little late actually leaving."

You decide to just leave them to it, following Asra's example and bidding Miles and Bryce farewell.

Ironically, leaving makes the next several minutes uneventful, and you mostly alternate between hanging around with Victoria and with Quidel.

Some hotheaded attention freak on the town guard challenges Gorman to a duel after deciding he's taken up too much of his coworkers' attention and praise, ending with the former's humiliation. Laurina said something to the guy afterwards that you thought was pretty funny at the time, but you've already forgotten it.

The mayor approaches you during this time, however, saying, "word is that late captain kept quite the sharp eye on you, but I wasn't really informed as to why. Are you another one of those heroic adventure thorn-in-evil's-side types, perhaps?" His tone is amused, as though he never tires of meeting people like that, and inviting. "Might be, hmm? Well, I can see it in you. You'll be one of the types to see everything by the end of your life. Maybe someone'll have to drag ya, though you don't look the type to mind if it's the right one." The old man chuckles.

"Er, also, I was over at your detention center earlier, and I, well... Apparently an old 'friend' of yours was visiting the guy we captured?"

"Yeah, you probably mean Lex. She asked real sweet, but to think she finally called in that favor by talkin' to some wyvern rider... Thirty-five years and that's when she does it."

"Th-thirty-five years? Er, did the guy we capture have a really protective mom or something?"

The mayor laughs, "not that I would know of. Lex's kids don't look a thing like that, far as I know. I don't know Lex's business with the man and I didn't ask."

"Does that have something to do with the favor?"

"Yeah, Sharlow Village is in her debt. It's... kind of embarrassing, but back in the gap, our little town was this close to being left with nothing by a bunch of flying bandits. She and a friend of hers were just riding through the area to pop into Elza Oasis, made personally sure that none of them made it out with our stuff. I think that, uh... "Sure, sure... She's a tall thing-er, not so much as you or your buddy there, but compared to most of us-she's got this really long, red, ringed hair usually kept tied back out of her eyes. When I saw her she was in this old red armor. Kinda worn, but you can still tell that it's good material, pricier than you can get 'round these parts."

"Thanks. I, uh, think that I'm gonna go check on Miles at the detention center. Lex wouldn't run off with this prisoner, would she?"

"No, no, promised she wouldn't take him from us."

You start to walk off, nodding and thanking him, but as soon as you're a ways away, he finally speaks up again, "I remember now. Yvette, that was her friend's name!"

Miles and Bryce end up being similarly impatient with the rest of the party, making sure you all get going before letting anyone else take time to ask questions.

After awhile, Devon is the first to open her mouth in questioning, saying, "Miles, please at least tell us why we're hauling like this..."

"All that that guy could tell us was that the Peshkatz was hired to help them with the mission they'd laid out, that even Roderick didn't know anything other than that they'd been hired."

"Now, think about it, Peshkatz training also makes you a damn fine scout," Bryce says, "being real dedicated to following orders, not being distracted, and we ain't exactly their top-priority targets."

Asra is the first to get what he's getting at, quietly expressing this with an "oh no..."

"Yeah, don't force us to figure this stuff out!"

"We were never Dain's target. The... younger hostages were."

"You mean the twins and the princess have an assassin tailing them?" Victoria is struggling a bit to keep up with the pace.

Noticing this, Bryce quickly strikes a pose and flicks his hands across his pomp, creating his revitalizing discordant noises. "Yeah, so we gotta haul ass down the path they took!"

Bovis ends up running ahead significantly faster than the rest of the party to protect the person he was created to protect.

An older-looking woman matching the description the mayor gave of Lex winds up riding up towards the group, her horse managing to catch up even with its many feet impeded by the sand. An axe is worn on her back, sword at her waist, you notice, but you can't really focus enough to see exactly what kind any of them are.

You're not sure what prompts you to do so, but after noticing Lex ride up and give Miles a nod (a gesture which he returns), you... Take the brief moment where she's slowed down as an excuse to approach her, asking if you can tag along on her ride.

"Now isn't the time for jokes," she says, "riding up ahead would be very dangerous for-"

"I'll put in a good word with Yvette when I get back to Rakche."

This silences Lex for a moment before she concedes, telling you quickly to hop on/pulling you upwards and behind her without missing a beat. With another gesture, her horse picks up speed again, managing to rival the pace on sand of the magically-inclined.

"You recognized this specific lance on sight?" You ask as you handed it over.

"His buddy you captured mentioned that it was looted off of him, and then a bunch of people who don't look like they've waved a lance in their lives show up with a nice-looking lance? It wasn't hard to piece together."

Before you can say much more, Lex rides past the body of a garou, laying face-down in the sand, throwing knives stuck in her. Lex, on the other hand, is rather distracted by a trio of fully-formed Dracozombies currently fighting... A small group of people in the distance. You can't exactly see who they are.

While you won't be able to simply outmaneuver them, and you're somewhat certain just by looking at them that these are stronger than the last Dracozombies you faced, you're not exactly sure you're going to die.

Instead, you roll out of their ways as one lunges at you from above with its familiar jaws and the other launches its deadly breath at you. They end up attacking each other.

The breath doesn't do much to the biter, but the jaws are strong enough even in decay to rip the other dracozombie's skull and spine away from the rest of its body, which falls to the ground and dissolves.

The bodyless dracozombie wriggles around while its accidental assailant takes another look at you, charging up its breath.

Roll under its breath (assuming it won't lol-touch-the-ground-right-in-front-of-it), then stab upwards, through its neck and hopefully its spine, as you come back onto your feet.

You figure that the best course of action is to not even give it the chance to attack, recalling the incident with the Mage Fighter in the underground tunnel.

It can't use magic if it's dead(er).

Your Wyrmslayer has no trouble piercing the flesh and bone of the Dracozombie, not getting stuck like that old Iron Sword did.

You come out of this encounter with two less fingers lost than the last time you killed a Dracozombie, leaving you with the same eight as ever.

The other Dracozombie writhes, still barely alive, and roars a little.

We don't have the time. Gotta go and help them out quickly!

anon if we leave it animated there is a 100% chance it will only come back to bite us in the ass

Well, I'm willing to take that chance if it'll help us save someone in time.

If we're able to take out two of them by ourselves then the others can hold out a bit longer.

And this is why we have votes. Well, this is going to turn out dramatic nonetheless. That's a win for everyone.

It only takes an instant to correct the issue of the still-living(?) Dracozombie, and off in the distance you swear you see a horde of Bael skittering out West. You figure that this means Logan is investigating, given that what little you know of him told of his affinity for summoning spiders.

Meanwhile, back where you were, Lex has managed to take a hammer to the back of a Dracozombie's skull, much to the awe of Princess Kia, Bolse, and Katina.

Only two remain, and the first appears to have just taken a chunk out of one of Vaga's hunnies. The man himself looks damn-near catatonic, and the three remaining (you're not sure where the third missing hunny is, and you're not sure you want to, but you can guess) she-wolves are doing most of the heavy-lifting in a transformed state. Lex tastefully moves herself and her horse between Kia's field of view and the ensuing fight.

The Great Miles+Bovis and Victoria are making quick work of the third, Miles shouting orders, and Yancy is being hoisted up by Quidel. You can't tell what's wrong with him through that dark robe of his, and it doesn't look like he's bleeding, but he has one arm slung around Quidel while the other is uselessly drooping.

Miles and company has one occupied, and Lex is taking care of the other. Was there a third one? I know there was five and we've taken care of two of them. I'm curious where the spiders are going. I'm guessing you guys would like to help out instead of investigating?

"Look, just... get him to the city and stay put until we come for you, all four of you. This isn't the place for him right now.

The garou you addressed nods, transforms, picks Vaga up, and books it. The other two follow suit.

You notice the dark spell Yancy typically tosses being flung at the Dracozombie, but find its source to be none other than Bolse. It... Well, it distracts the creature, if nothing else leaving you a perfect opportunity to finish the job.

Lex also takes said opportunity, leading to the poor thing having its spine shattered and head cut off.

Without another word, you start heading West as you saw Logan's bael horde head, hearing Kia excitedly say "you're the strongest, aunt Lexi!" and then assorted degrees that amount to varying tones in which one can say "what the hell?" from various party members.

In this confusion, Katina slips away, following you.

"I swear, my brother didn't summon these ones. They must have another necromancer!"

>A. That's who you're looking for

"That's who I'm hoping to find," you explain, "see, your bodyguard who isn't a backstabbing liar prince-or, uh, maybe someone else who can summon Bael, but probably Logan-had the same idea as I did, I assume. The dragons are coming from the West, so naturally that's where the person summoning them is!"

Katina nods, "well, whoever they are, I can take care of them and any dragons they might throw at us!"

The small horde of bael ends at a grown man with a bushy moustache riding a wyvern. Behind him is a small, hooded person. You can see blue ringlets poking out of their hood.

An incomplete dracozombie or two rise from the ground as the probable necromancer mutters something you can't quite hear, but the dragons are swarmed and killed(?) by bael as soon as they rise, unable to fully-form. Beneath the shifting legs of the various bael, you see what looks like some sort of dead person in very light, dark-colored armor.

"Er, hey, we should probably get out of here!" The wyvern lord says to his companion. The companion says something else, and he's quick to rebut, "they said that if we couldn't get the kids back, it's acceptable to get the book back, and our sneakiest guy just got the nasty end of some bael venom. We're LEAVING."

The necromancer nods after a moment, and the wyvern takes flight out of the bael's collective ranges just as they finally break through a last pathetic attempt at raising more dracozombies.

The pair flies off, and Katina is quick on the draw, flipping through a yellow tome and saying, "wyverns are like dragons, right? So a blast of Arcthunder should fry those guys right out of the sky!"

The ground around her starts to glow as she reads from the tome.

"Katina, don't actually hit them! Just try to scare the-"

For a terrifying moment, lightning fills the sky. The wyvern is halted for a moment from surprise, but the wyvern lord manages to gain control of the situation and keep flying off.

"What was that for? I could've shot them out of the sky if you didn't distract me!" Katina huffs.

"Katina, that necromancer barely looked older than Kia. And that's a hair color I've only seen on King Drasma and his kids..."

"You don't mean..."

"Lady Katina..!" Into the scene Logan walks, dismissing his bael summons.

"Oh, hey Logan." She greets him very... casually.

He blinks, then says, "well, you're well enough to be casual, anyway," with a smile. "Come now, General Corneria will be delighted to see you. Tell me, was that your brother I saw towards the South end of town?"

I'll be in the thread to chat for awhile (might take some melatonin, though), but if I miss you (or you just don't wanna/don't think to ask in-thread) feel free to inquire via ask.fm/qmgrandflocto

Either next thread or the thread after that, Ellen should be reunited with the knights. I figure that after the last of your business with General Corneria/postmortem of the arc is done, I'll mini-timeskip to the triumphant return.

The friendly neighborhood dubiously-criminal Anna in Heim may have tried to instigate something of the sort, but sadly nobody bit. Partially because Yvette got really mad about it.
