"Same for Tien. He's not much of a holiday person, but I think it's a bit nice..." Launch adds, humming a cheery little tune.

You... aren't quite sure how to respond to that, and decide to check up on Master Roshi. He's... very into his programs at the moment. Not even the food seems to be distracting him and... damn, that's starting to smell good.

You sigh with a bit of relief, and wave to them all, flying off towards Baba's. On the way there you sense... some unusually high Power Levels. And they seem familiar, too. 1200, 1300, 1500, 2500. You bolt down to the entrance, the usual crowds absent this time around, one of the ghosts more than a little relieved to see you. "M-Maple! Maple! Thank goodness you're here!"

"What's going on?" you question. Seems the 1500 Power Level one is fighting... Spike?

"G-Garlic Jr. has come back! They only have one more victory after this! Please, please help!"

You fly over, concealing your Power Level just enough that they don't catch on to what you're planning. Spike's beaten, clearly, and you can almost... feel the gloating from where you are. You notice the rest of Baba's crew are fairly badly injured, and give each one a quick heal. The old woman approaches.

"Thank you for your help in this, Maple. It... shouldn't have had to come to this." she grumbles, looking at her fighters. "But I guess that's what happens when people slack off!"

All of them lower their heads and grumble apologetically. You do some stretches yourself. What a way to start the day. "So, know why he's here?"

"It concerns his father, best I could tell. Garlic Jr. seems to have some... new tricks up his sleeves. Be careful." Baba warns you, before taking you out to her usual ring to face him. You make sure to Clothes Beam up a little disguise, a mask like Gohan had. "Well, if you want it so badly, you'll have to beat one of my best students."

Garlic Jr. glares at you, the disguise not fooling him. "Of course. I remember you. You and your brother bothered us the first time. And everyone has heard about the group that defeated King Piccolo."

Baba stares blankly at you for a moment, then chuckles. "Ah, of course. How adorable, young love~!"

"Auntie Baba..." you grumble. She takes you inside and uses her Crystal Ball for a moment, contacting Gohan himself. You're a bit surprised to learn that he's no longer at King Kai's, but instead at another place entirely, Izumi and Mutaito there as well, along with many, many other fighters. Gohan gives his usual... comments, but focuses on the task at hand, explaining how to cook the rice at juuuust the right temperature, and the other ingredients that go in with it. Dinosaur eggs, more specifically ones from the Paozusaurus, and diced meat from the same creature, along with a few off-the-counter spices. He says that he usually made steamed carrots and sliced radishes along with it, but Goku never really seemed to care for them with that meal. You thank him for the information, and tell him to give your regards to your Teacher as well.

Baba lets out a soft chuckle. "You're really going through with this. He's quite important to you, that 'monkey boy.'"

You focus on training yourself some more, but don't really make any breakthrough in it. You're not getting rusty, but you seem to be a bit... distracted as you try to improve. Your training of Chuu Lee turns out better, though, as she learns to use the Geist Magnum herself, to the astonishment of her friends. With that, you work on making sure she learns what Master Roshi taught you about martial arts, though, and how they stand as tools of self-improvement, defending people and yourself, helping others, and so forth. She takes the lessons you give to her to heart, and seems to have improved quite a bit. She might even be a match for Lapis or Lazuli by now.

What you find yourself extremely focused on, is learning that recipe. Every other day, you try to learn it yourself, almost treating it like ACTUAL training. And Gods, do you ever learn it. Brobro, Launch, and Master Roshi end up more than a little impressed by the dish you end up serving them. Goku is going to love this!

You end up setting some time aside on the 14th, heading up to Kami's lookout again at the morning, the fresh meal you made for Goku ready, and with a little heads-up to Trip about the food. Not that he'd turn it down, but... still. You arrive and see the monkey boy and Popo sparring, Goku with his Power Pole and Popo with a stick that seems similar to it, though lacking in the extension ability. You also notice Mr. Popo's... quite a bit stronger than you remember him being. 10,300. Damn.

Goku's the first to notice you, even managing to avoid a swing at him as he greets you with a "Hiya, Maple!"

Goku stores his Power Pole. "Ah, Kami thinks that I can actually get a lot stronger. He saw how tough Piccolo got, and even with the link between them, it was quite something to see it in action. He doesn't really want to take any chances. Though... something about it is different, like, getting stronger through anger, or something..." He scratches his head. "Kami called it... 'responding to a need, not a desire.'"

...curious. You slow down a bit, letting Popo get ahead of you and Goku, as you present him with the thing you made, taking it out of its capsule. "I, uh, brought something special for you, for breakfast..."

His expression lights up a bit at the mention of food, though upon first smelling, then seeing what it is... he gets quieter. A humble smile comes across his face. "How... how'd you do it?"

You grin at him, rubbing the back of your neck. "Had a bit of help. Went to Baba's and got it from Gohan himself. The recipe. Ah, I, um... spent quite a while getting it just right." Your cheeks get a little red as you say that.

Take this opportunity to try and get a better feel for how Goku fights now, since he's become a much more tactical fighter recently. He did that because Maple's more calculated fighting style worked well for her, so when he hit a wall in terms of raw power, he started to fight smarter, rather than just hitting things harder.

The King Vegeta fight showed that we work best as a team, because our fighting styles compliment each other extremely well. That's how we should train against Popo, and that's how we're most likely to get our next breakthrough: By adapting and doing what Goku has already done - using someone else's fighting style as inspiration. We fight smart enough already. What we need now is more raw power, and training as a team with Goku is the best way to do that.

You and Goku look at each other with an unspoken degree of understanding. You both power up, watching each other's movements almost as much as you watch Popo's, the both of you focused. Goku flares forward with the Kaio-ken, and you take up the opposite method of attack with the Raio-ken. You notice, and are almost amazed by, how calm and collected the monkey boy's movements are. He does his best to minimize any wasted movements, trying to make everything count. It seems he's taking care to notice how you're fighting as well, watching your skill and speed carefully. Everything the two of you do seems... almost in sync with each other.

Not to say that Popo is slacking, as even with the Power Level he seems to be fighting at, he's holding his own against you two fairly well. An attempt to hit him with a Geist Magnum results in him simply... EATING the Ki blast. However, your coordinated attacks seem to surprise him greatly, as even he eventually takes a few solid hits, with you and Goku managing to avoid the ones directed at you both. After almost 3 hours of practice on and off, Popo declares that you two have done enough for the session.

You and Goku tally up the number of blows you landed on Mr. Popo... and are surprised to find that you're both even. 18 solid hits, each. The monkey boy puts his hands behind his head and laughs, tail swaying again. "Guess we're both at about the same level, Maple. Pretty balanced."

Growing up with Gohan, then surviving on his own, and finally up to his meeting with Bulma, pointing to the spot where he wrecked her car, and she responded the only logical way she could have responded to the crazy mountain monkey boy with superhuman strength.
