Mana necklace – Magical storage of mana may have gotten the research staff too excited. Your necklace has been destroyed but you can create new devices to store mana. There are several new applications resulting from studying the necklace.

Steel armor – After all the combat it has seen the scale mail sadly was unable to survive being researched. The stealth and acid protection enchantments are now available for use due to the sacrifice however.

Current problems

>Demonic city – Hestia has developed a plan and is currently rebuilding the city. Construction is ongoing.

>Prisoners – The people that you have captured are currently unwilling to talk. You can try to interrogate them yourself or just leave them alone for now.

>Scouts – Scanners have picked up a number of teleportations. Stealth units are attempting to study how to enter the city unnoticed.


These scouts could be trouble, it’s clear that Director Burgess is going to continue to assault your city for as long as you hold his daughter. The soldiers occasionally yell at their cells that his is going to destroy your entire city. Normally you wouldn’t consider that to be an actual threat, but things are not really normal anymore. You could probably destroy the city yourself, so you can’t exclude the possibility of the Director being powerful as well.

The ring was feather fall right? We don't need a replacement for the ring. I think we can survive any regular fall. And since the test were inconclusive about faster than freefall. It might be useless against being thrown downward. We are probably more likely to be thrown than to fall.

“I will divert some power to recreate the lost effects, but it would be better to craft entirely new things. I suggest waiting for the study of the power armor to finish; it would be vastly superior to the armor you were using.”


You part ways with Hestia and use the GPS thing to track down active teleport circles.

Past the sea of fire you created by accident there is a couple active hot spots, three people with a pile of scanning equipment are studying the segment of your walls that enter the lake. Looks like they determined that a frontal assault would be too costly, so they want to perform an amphibious assault. As you get closer to them a beeping noise suddenly goes off.

“Proximity alarm! Scatter!” One of them yells.


All three of the men take off running in different directions. Damn they are fast, you only have time to grab one of them before they escape. So you tackle the one closest to you and bind his limbs.

“It’s too late.” The man laughs at you. “The director finished his mission early, he’s headed here now.”


Well looks like you caught a talkative one this time. You gather up all their equipment, maybe Hestia can do something with it. On the way back the man just keeps talking about how screwed you are now, so you gag him.


At the city gate a drone is waiting for you.

“Good I can process this and put him with the others.” Hestia says through the drone. “There is a slight-”


Hestia is cut short when someone teleports down into the middle of the sea of fire.


A man calmly walks towards you covered in hellfire. He takes a breath and exhales, the hellfire is instantly extinguished. Then he points at you.


“You the motherfucker who took my daughter?” He asks. “Is some sort of kidnapping? If so hand her over unharmed and I”ll only break half the bones in your body.”


You toss the captive and equipment towards the gate and get ready to draw a weapon.


“Don’t care about all the other captives then?” You ask.

“Those chucklefucks?” He doesn’t seem to care at all. “Worthless as tits on a bull, you can keep them.”


“You pull a gun or that sword of yours on me though things get ugly fast.” He says. “Tell you what you don't seem so bad, I’ll give you the same deal everyone who comes after my daughter gets. Take a hit from me, I’ll give you three free shots back.”

When the smoke clears you see the top half of his body has been stripped of skin. The charred flesh smokes as it knits itself back together.


Moments later his body fully regrows.


“Now THAT was an attack.” He says and he shakes your hand crushing all the bones in it.

Either with Hestia’s help or pure luck you manage to make it to the Lake District without encountering any imp or perhaps worse Ayla.


“Damn this is nicer than half the upper city, you could make a killing with tourists.” Director Burgess says as you walk towards where you put his daughter up.

“This is the place.” You lead him to the building you’ve used for house arrest. The door open when you draw close.

Any response you would have is cut short by Evangeline barreling out of the door.

Speaking of scanning, we should have Hestia proform a full sweep of everywhere Director Burgess has been in cause he "accidentally forgot" something.

You resolve to allow Evangeline to have access to the city so you wave over one of Hestia’s drones.

“Just ask one of the robots for help, they’ll let you out and guide you through the city if you get lost.”

“Thanks that means a lot to me. Being cooped up inside is worse than being alone.”


“If you don’t mind, ask a robot to take you to the prison. Perhaps you can talk some sense into the guys that were captured, none of them will talk and they opened fire on each other without caring. I think that something strange is going on with them.”

“I can try, but that sounds very odd.” Evangeline agrees.


You part ways and head to the research center, as usual you go to speak with Hestia.


“That was an, interesting, conclusion to the problem.” Hestia says coldly. “What is it that you require now? Personal tours of my city for the girl?”


“I was thinking more of researching how I can create things. Your report mentioned that no progress can be made in researching mana to matter conversion. If we work together though I think we can accomplish something.”


Hestia’s avatar displays a surprised face for fractions of a second.

“Yes, that would be helpful.” She pauses for a moment. “I left it out of the reports, but I have spent some time on the side to create something new.”


A panel opens to reveal some sort of helmet with wires connecting into Hestia’s systems.

“This should function approximately the same as a datajack implant, it will not be a strong enough connection for you to enter virtual reality though.”


You put the helmet on without even a second though. It feels like an oppressive weight is directly on your brain as the device connects you to Hestia. You can feel as she begins to gently interface with your mind.

“You didn’t even think about it?” Hestia asks.

“Why would I need to? I trust you.” You tell her, which makes the screen flicker for a moment.

“Yes, of course. Now we should begin.”

You start at the easiest related topic, matter to mana conversion. It is already well known that the cleaners are able to convert matter into mana somehow so understanding how should help you with your ultimate goal.


With your minds linked research goes far faster than normal, as Hestia does rapid calculations you are able to provide novel insights into the problems. Ideas are shared as they form and soon enough you have a working process to replicate the cleaner’s ability.


Then with Hestia now fully merged with your mind you try to create new things, the first thing created is an exact replica of the omega black clearance that Director Burgess flashed. Upon its creation you are filled with excitement, then disappointment as Hestia’s scans indicate that while it is absolutely flawless, it lacks the necessary internal information to operate, it could still be useful for distractions or bluffing.


Next you will a book containing all the information regarding hell to exist. The book unfortunately is filled with all the information that is known of hell between yourself and Hestia already.


Then you create life once more, a singular small goblin comes into existence.

“Chief, imps is fun. Yous smart to get them.” It tells you in flawless Japanese before leaving.


Your mind accidentally wanders for a moment and you think about how elegant the algorithms that Hestia is using are. The connection instantly severs leaving you feeling empty and alone.

Actually, he said it isn't -directly- harmful, and is "useful in the long-term".

By that he could mean that, it won't make us game over, but it could fuck us up in other ways, yet the "long term" positive could just be us being able to interact with the void entity itself when it finally rears its head.

So this morning I had an idea, why not create an Order of Hell Knights to roll around with us when we fight?

It'll be our own personal Teutonic order, changed with upholding our own Law in hell.

“You were busy deciding how to handle your prisoner and were unable to give any insights into what sort of equipment you would prefer so I designed what I thought would be most useful for you.” Hestia states.


A set of drones enter the room and lay out a number of new things for you to use.

“I am currently finishing designing and building a suit of customized power armor for you as well.” Hestia continues.

“Unless I divert a large portion of the cities power to the project it will take more time to finish. I hope you like what I made for you.” She trails off and begins to display the latest update on the condition of the city.

“A reasonable plan, I shall begin preparations for the robots and goblins.” Hestia says as a teleport flash fills the room.

A powered suit of the captured armor, the giant lizard and Ayla are now in the room with you.


“Wha?” Ayla looks around confused for a second.

“Oh! Master, your clothes are nice.” Ayla says and creates a matching dress for herself. Then hugs your arm. “There, now we match, how cute!”

The man then uses a tablet to trigger a crane to lift the suit into position with the thousands of others in the room.

Meanwhile the giant lizard is happily munching through the remains of a tipped over food machine. Food machines are wonderful, even better than the food skeletons at home. The food is wrapped up inside something slightly tough and clear but it can’t resist the power of teeth.


There are some female humans screaming at the giant lizard but it doesn’t care. One of the humans says something about the damn genetics staff, but there is still more food here to eat.

You exit the storage closet slowly, and the hallway is empty. You look around for something important but it seems like this is some sort of office area. You find a room filled with cubicles and there are people complaining about paperwork and the latest test results. There are distant screams from one direction and there is a door labeled secure area with cameras trained on the door to watch the comings and goings of anyone who enters.

Hestia takes a more cautionary approach. While Reginald seems to be far more observant of his surroundings the majority of organic life is completely unable to notice sufficiently slow movement. As the power armor slowly edges towards an access panel a worker comes by and attaches wires to the suit to attempt to read diagnostics. Perfect, they are giving a direct point of access.

The giant lizard snorts at the humans causing one of them to faint, but there is no time to scare them a wonderful smell wafts through the air.

The smell is coming from a glowing box. The glow vanishes as the box is torn apart by strong claws. Inside is a pile of something that smells good. Thick fake blood stuff covers delicious balls of meat and long mushy strands of something. Someone yells about lunch and hits the giant lizard as it consumes the food.

The connection is very bad; they should at least upgrade to use high speed superconducting monofilaments.

No that is unfair not everyone can be as smart as her Reginald Hestia decides after the annoyingly long wait of three seconds it takes to connect to their systems, break their firewalls and encryptions, hide her presence from detection, spoof the data that was being searched for and finally taking full control over their systems.

Why would they have a full connection to security such poor design, it is practically asking for someone to take control of all their alarms and cameras from a remote location.


Hestia then loops the footage on the cameras so the security force manning the cameras will not notice anything unusual.


“Look master a bunch of people, see I’m good at sneaking too.” Ayla call out to you as a dozen men in suits run in the direction of the screams.


“Yes, now we go to where they came from and take control of this levels security.”

Quickly enough you bypass cameras and locate the main security control center. Entering the room you find only two men remain stationed at the cameras. Ayla sneakily floats up to them and strangles them unconscious with her smoke.


A few of the monitors then change to display Hestia’s avatar, seem that she already has full control of their systems but you open a panel and wire some probes into the hardware anyways.


“I can now deactivate the connection via the power armor and remain in control.” Hestia states. “Have you seen enough of the level to begin your assault yet?”


Then on one of the monitors you see the security guards surrounding the giant lizard.

With the food consumed the giant lizard knocks over the large box that smells slightly of more food and pushes it near where the humans were gathered just in case the basking hunger kicks in. Then under the soft artificial glow of the lights the lizard takes up a majestic basking position and radiates its glory over the fleeing humans.


Not even long enough later for a decision to be made on the choice of eating more food a group of human arrive and being yelling angrily are the lizard. Some of them hit the lizard with something that makes shocks, how incredibly rude of them to interrupt basking with their nonsense.

“Sounds good, Ayla coordinate with Hestia and help the goblins take control while I go help the lizard.”

You leave Hestia to deal with Ayla and quickly rush off to help the giant lizard.


Meanwhile the giant lizard has become hungry from all these rude humans shocking it with their shock things. The lizard is fast enough to grab one and tries to eat it.

Nope, shock things are not good food.

So the lizard claws the box open, its insides are cold why would humans keep perfectly good food in a box of cold?


As the lizard consumes the horribly cold food which is trapped inside of bottles and smaller boxes the rude humans begin to shoot their guns at the lizard. Blood flows freely from the rapidly healing wounds.

You arrive to see the lizard being shot to death while it ignores everything to eat the leftover contents of a refrigerator. The torn remains of a vending machine and a microwave are also scattered about the area.


With a mighty kick you break into the middle of the dozen security guards, the one you hit is down for the count and it looks like two others hit their heads hard enough to be knocked out. Nine more left and they don’t seem to be trained fighters.

“Yes, this topic can wait until later. Now take the goblins outside this room and sweep this sector.” Hestia displays an intricate map with battle plans for Ayla.

“Just go to the big hallway and capture anyone you find.” Hestia sighs.

“That makes much more sense, I can do that.”


Ayla and Hestia have now begun to control the research ring with the assistance of goblins and robots.


With your connection to life it is a piece of cake to drain the life out of these guys with your punches just enough to knock them out.

Hestia begins to direct the forces to capture the fleeing staff. The adaptive robot is too large to effectively operate in the smaller hallways of this level and the captured armor suit is isolated and so is unable to help contribute. The goblins enjoy destroying and collecting everything in their path but allow many people to escape. The robots are much more effective and completely clear and secure a fourth of the ring.


Ayla on the other hand opens a door to find a test range. She wastes time with the goblins accompanying her by holding mock combat simulations. Overall nothing is accomplished.

Meanwhile the robots and Ayla continue their work trying to secure the ring. The robots encounter a group of armed researchers, the ensuing firefight goes poorly for the robots it is hard to capture people intent to shooting you to death. Ayla manages to get back into the game and secures another large section of the ring. You now control more than half of the ring.

You find out later that footage of it that Hestia captured ‘leaked’ back to the city to entertain imps and goblins. With the use of the adaptive robot Hestia manages to flank the armed humans and force their surrender effectively ending the armed resistance of this level. Then alongside the captured power armor you secure the areas leading to the teleporter out. Then thanks to your connection with life you are able to quickly check over all the rooms to ensure that no stragglers are trying to hide.

There is a large crowd of people trying to flee via teleport despite it being disabled.


“Sensors indicate that this is the only remaining group of people. The remainder of the ring has successfully been secured.” Hestia tells you.

“Good work, now we just need to deal with them.”

Ayla comes through at some point with a crowd of blood soaked goblins during your speech and interrupts it to tell everyone about how cute the imps you took in from hell are which reterrifies the entire crowd. Her offhand comment about how no good succubi are going to be allowed to visit reengages the male half of the crowd much to the disdain of the women.


It takes some work to recover from Ayla’s impulsiveness but you manage to swing things around with your talk of the worker’s utopia and all the free stuff people can get.

The advanced technology and personal housing sway some other too and of course you mention the corruption of the administration and persecution of the goblins.

When the teleporter comes back online no one goes to leave, they are not afraid any longer. Looks like Hestia will need to construct a lot more housing for everyone. You then prepare to teleport back to your city by having goblins spread out scanning probes everywhere so you can transport back everything.
