You reach into your shinobi tool's bag, and start to fill your hands with weaponry. You load up all of the Shuriken that you have remaining, and all but one of the Kunai that you have left. You've spent most of your resources for this fight hanging back and picking away at Shikadai, but this option won't be here forever.

Thinking quickly, you act. You're aware of his general positioning in the forest, although you don't have an exact bead on the range of his shadow jutsu. If you were to simply charge in, you could end up going wide on the attack as the bushes and trees block your sight. Weapons in hand, you unleash a storm of steel in Shikadai's general direction. Some of your projectiles hit wood, thudding in the darkness. Others silently impact the grass, but a few incite a chain reaction of events.

The first thing you notice is that the outline of what you thought was Shikadai, has now leaped forward by about ten meters, to the other side of the clearing. The actual Shikadai bursts out of the brush, sliding against the ground as he lands in desperation. It's pretty clear that he was jumping out of the way of one of your attacks. The doppleganger across the clearing dissipates, and Shikadai is struggling to stand up. You can see that he has two Senbon sticking out of his thigh. What do you do?

Slowly, but surely, you grasp the handle of your last Kunai. You extend your arm and use the tip of your thumb to try and get a feel for the trajectory of the throw. It's about twenty meters down to Shikadai from your current position, straight down. There's no way that you could miss this throw, and you're positive that he won't be able to defend against it even if he does know where it's coming from. This is the finishing blow of the fight! You launch the projectile, and it soars through the air.

Shikadai looks up as he hears it approach, but it's too late. He throws his arms up, and the projectile slashes across his skin, spilling blood on the grass. It's just a flesh wound, but you get the feeling you better check out how he's doing.

Just when you're about to call out, Shikadai's body explodes into a puff of smoke, leaving nothing but a log left behind. It has a kunai sticking out of it's front, a Replacement jutsu. You start to quickly whip your head around, searching for Shikadai.

As you're moving, you suddenly find your body completely paralyzed. You turn forward on the branch that you're standing on. You're forced to look down slightly, and just below you, you can see Shikadai holding a handseal, standing an a shorter branch. You speak through clenched teeth. "What?! How did you have time to get down there!?"

Shikadai chuckles below you. "It was the only option I had, really. Even then, things aren't quite as bad as you might think. It was my intention to try and maneuver you out into the open. Of course, it didn't matter. Every time that I put bait out there, I was already under your Genjutsu. You could influence my hearing into thinking that the illusionary clones you'd sent out were real, now that the clouds prevented me from knowing if they had shadows or not. Turned a weapon of my own against me without even realizing it, probably."

You struggle to break free from the jutsu. "But what about that Jutsu you were just using, with the doppleganger?"

He smiles. You can tell because you're smiling as well, against your will. "Shadow Doppleganger Jutsu. Creates a clone that's connected to me and mimics my movements. Pretty good bait when your opponent can't see well, but it didn't work on you. Unfortunately the most I could work out for the situation I was in was a stalemate."

You attempt to look down at him in confusion, but it doesn't happen. "A stalemate? It sure seems like you've got me."

Shikadai shakes his and your heads. "Think again. Look in front of you. The only way I have of disposing you is to make you fall off this tree. Your branch is longer and thicker than mine, so if I walked forward, I'd be the first to fall. Of course, if I wanted to, I could just make us leap off the side in a last ditch suicide-murder effort. But since this is just a training exercise, and my mom expects me home for dinner, I can't do that. I'd hate to think of what she'd do to me if I died."

He releases the jutsu, and you both leap back down to the training field as the area clears up.

Last thread some of you guys were talking about learning shadow clones and how we have to be Jonon to learn, but what if we just steal the scroll?

Naruto did it, and his genjutsu sucked. I'm sure we could be in and out without anyone knowing and leave behind a fake scroll while we study it at our leisure.

You stretch your tired arms, smiling. "That was incredible, I've never had a fight like that."

Across from you, Shikadai is also smiling, and panting softly. "Same. Most everyone around here just packs as much power into their attacks as they can, instead of focusing on strategy. Nice change of pace, made training seem a little more like a game than work."

He yanks out the Senbon that were stuck in his leg. "Here you go. We should probably get to picking up all the traps and weapons that we both set down."

You blink. "You put down traps too?"

He crosses his arms, and nods, walking back over to the forest. "That's right. They were put up all around my position, but you just threw a bunch of weapons and completely bypassed them. Every move you made was a counter to the one I'd just made, and the same goes for me. We definitely need to do this again sometime."

You give him a thumbs up. "Sounds good to me. Want to go get a bite to eat after this?" You start to undo some of your traps.

He looks over, and shrugs. "Sure. We might see Chocho if we go to the Barbecue place."

Once the two of you finish cleaning up, it's about one thirty in the afternoon. You head to the market and into the barbecue restaurant. Sure enough, Chocho, a classmate of yours and Shikadai's team mate, is seated at a booth eating. You and Shikadai both sit across from her, as a plate of Barbecued pork is set in front of you.

You reach out for one of the pieces of pork, only for your hand to be deftly slapped away with surprising speed. Chocho picked up the piece you were going to grab, and bites into it. You smile weakly. "Hey Chocho."

She gives you a small wave, as her mouth is currently full of food. You and Shikadai both order your own plates, and start to discuss the state of this class of Genin. You know that the Chunin exams is the big moment that everyone is training for. But will your sensei even suggest your group for the exams? It is all up to him, after all.

Shikadai shakes his head. "I'm pretty sure at this rate that Anko sensei is going to recommend us, which is a huge drag. She and my mom won't leave me alone about constantly training, not to mention the missions. I became a shinobi so that I could do whatever I wanted like my dad does, not for all this work. The worst part is knowing it could all be in vain, the way that just the Leaf Village Genin are looking. Some of this kids are just monsters.

You think for a moment, considering who you're the most curious about. All the people that immediately come to your mind are ones you already know at least a little bit about, so you figure you should ask about your sensei's little sister. You've got no idea if she's actually all that powerful or not, but having a bit of intel could help, if Shikadai knows anything.

You turn to him. "What about that one Sarasu Hikawa? His daughter is on his team. Is she anything that you think we'd need to worry about?"

Shikadai takes a drink from a glass of water, and frowns. "Yeah. She is. From what I've heard, the girl is hardly a shinobi. More like a Samurai, with a ridiculously big sword. Supposedly the hunk of metal is over seven feet tall, but I don't see how a twelve year old girl could wield something like that. Sounds like she should have been born in the Mist Village, if you ask me. We don't know her because apparently she was privately tutored in the shinobi arts by her brother and dad. Everyone I've asked says that she's way out of our league. So in short, yeah, I would worry about staying out her and her team's way."

You nod. "So that's at least three different teams with out of this world Genin. I wonder if these exams were as rough as when our parents were our age, heh."

Your food comes out, and everyone starts to chow down. You notice that Chocho has a second plate brought to her, and the first is whisked away. How long has she been here?

You chuckle. "Well, at least we've got some time to relax before all of that."

It's about four o' clock in the afternoon, and you stand up, full. Chocho and Shikadai both say their goodbyes and start to head home to do some chores, while you think of where you should go next.

Soon after, you're approaching the Academy. You decide that you should spend the rest of the day studying, feeling a little intimidated by the story about your Sensei's sister. That's just the Genin that you know about, too. The wind blows gently across your face as you head up the stairs to the Academy's front door. When you reach the top, you find your body completely immobilized.

The scent of blood wafts up into your face, pushed forward by the gentle breeze. Directly in front of you, illuminated by the afternoon twilight, is a corpse. The corpse of a young woman, limbs broken and twisted so that she looks like a marionette with no strings. The stomach is covered in various lacerations, each one a mortal wound on it's own. She has no eyes. She seems to be inside some sort of ritual circle, made of blood. Within that is a triangle.

You take a step back, shocked. You nearly trip and fall over the stairs, but an arm reaches out and grabs onto you, pulling forward to safety. You recoil back, still terrified, and glare at the sudden arrival. It's a girl from your class. She has wild eyes and sharp teeth, and two red facial markings on her cheeks that signify her as a member of the Inuzuka clan. She's wearing standard shinobi pants and sandals, and a bulky gray hoodie. Resting in the hood is a small black dog. Her nails are long and sharp, and she has a brown, medium length ponytail, and spiky bangs. She grips your forearm tight, looking at the body. "Don't scream. I know. Let's go get a teacher. Me and Akahiro smelt the blood from a mile away."

You're rather shaken up. What do you do?

Eventually the two of you spot a Chunin who was walking toward's the Academy, and rush him down, sliding to a stop in front. He reels back slightly. "Eh? What's wrong, kids? You look like you've seen a ghost, ya' know?"

You step forward. "There's a dead body out in front of the Academy. I think it's safe to say that someone's been murdered. You need to contact everyone that you can and get them there. We'll head back and make sure that nothing gets tampered with. Quick!"

The man nods and leaps away, and you and the girl start to head back. She runs beside you, and turns and smiles. "My name's Kayo, by the way. No offense, but I think I can get there faster than you. I'll keep watch!"

She speeds ahead, and gets there a few minutes before you do. It was probably a good move, as when you approach, you can hear two voices speaking. One is Kayo, and the other is someone you don't recognize. You can hear them laughing without care, however. "Hahaha, you want to kill me, girl? You sure look like it. Why don't you try? Another sacrifice for Lord Jashin!"

You hide around the corner of a building, and glance out to observe. In front of the Academy building, Kayo, her dog Akahiro, and this mysterious stranger, who is standing over the body, are facing off. Kayo tosses some sort of pill to her dog, and eats one herself. Seconds later, the dog transforms. "Man beast clone Jutsu!" The stranger is of an average height, with shaggy, blonde hair. He seems exceptionally thin, and has dark skin. He puts his hand up to his head and chuckles. He seems to be wielding a bloody tanto, what you imagine to be the murder weapon.

Now there is two Kayo, and neither of them look happy. Backup will be on the way soon. What do you do?

You open up the vile of poison that you have in your pack, and dip a Senbon into it. (9 uses left.) You decide to wait for a few more moments, hoping to get a better understanding of the situation. The dark-skinned man runs forward at Kayo with his tanto, and starts to swing it about with abandon. You get the feeling he has no sense of self-preservation, as Kayo and her clone are repeatedly leaping in to strike the man with powerful blows. Even then, he doesn't seem to show any sign of slowing down. In fact, his zealous fury seems to only increase. Kayo and Akahiro break off for a short moment, and start to preform some handseals. Now is your chance to intervene.

You flick your wrist forward and send the Senbon soaring, and it slides directly into the neck of the dark-skinned man. He looks over in your direction, seemingly unbothered by the small spear piercing his jugular vein. He chuckles, and pulls the senbon out. "I think something bit me. An annoying little fly.."

He begins to run in your direction, and you leap from cover, kunai drawn. You're ready to engage this madman, knowing that the poison you've inflicted him with will wear him down slowly. That's all you need to last for.

Suddenly, a voice cries out behind him. "Four Legs Jutsu!"

Both of Kayo are crouched down on all fours, seemingly radiating chakra. Her nails grow longer and sharper, as do her canines extend. Her hair grows spikier, and her eyes grow ever more intense. She's starting to look more beast than woman, and you're a little shocked by her and her clone's intense speed when they move. The dark-skinned man is thrown onto his face as blood pours on the ground, two claw-slashes on his back.

You nod, understanding. "Then, why did he do this? What was his motivation for sneaking into the village, and what's Lord Jashin?"

The Chunin sighs, and looks around. Kayo also steps beside the two of you, with Akahiro resting on top of her head. "Yeah, I heard him mention that Jashin thing a bunch too. Something about sacrifices?"

The Chunin nods. "That's right. Jashin is an evil god that some people worship. Based on the symbols and your eye witness accounts, we've got pretty good reason to believe that he's one of them. Not to mention how his jugular has been pierced and he doesn't seem to mind all that much."

You hold up a finger, remembering something. "Oh, I poisoned him when I hit him with that senbon. You should probably get him some medical attention if you want him to live."

The man chuckles. "I wish that were a concern of ours. You see, years ago, there was one of these Jashinists who'd discovered the secret to immortality through some sort of dark ritual. As far as we know, he might be just like that one. This isn't the first time a story like this has popped up recently in the Great Nations. Apparently Jashinism is making a comeback."

When you look over at Kayo, you can see that she's similarly shaken up, as well as her dog. She's carrying the small black hound in her arms, petting it.

Naruto jumps slightly, and all the objects on his head come crashing down. He jumps from his seat and lands on the desk, looking around the room for the intrusion. He points a finger at Kayo, and yells. "You! What do you think you're doing, sneaking up on your Hokage like that! I could have blown this room apart by accident if I hadn't carefully landed on this desk!"

Her jaw hits the floor, and she throws her hands up in the air, defeated. "Whatever. Did you need us, Lord Hokage? Is this about the event that just happened?"

A Shadow clone that you hadn't noticed starts picking up some of the papers that had been knocked off, and Naruto takes a seat. "That's right. I wanted to ask you if you had seen this man do anything unusual. If he seemed to react to pain in a strange way, or anything like that."

You nod. "That's right. He did."
