The third round of the tournament is set to begin in a few hours, and three members of your team are in bad shape.

Kasai can't see, blinded by an attack from Belial, she's still in great distress, and you suspect sending her into the ring would be a poor decision right now.

Kara is still recovering from the attack you hit her with yesterday, a blast that was meant for Belial that was sent back at her. She's alive, but her recovery will take some time. Kaya has been tending to her in the meantime.

You're nowhere near as strong as you should be, though that's intentional. Koe has placed Demon Cuffs on you, greatly restraining you both physically and in terms of power in order to increase your strength. The problem is that, as long as you wear them, you're going to be slower and weaker than you should be, which could spell death in the ring.

You're outside of the hotel with Bruce and Aalgan, discussing the upcoming match.

"So, it's down to the three of us," Bruce says with a sigh. "Shouldn't be too difficult."

"Says the guy who got a broken arm in his last fight," Aalgan points out.

"Shut up, you got knocked out in your first fight," Bruce counters. "I could take all five of the losers we're fighting with one arm."

"Oh yeah? Want me to break one for you and you can put your money where your mouth is?" Aalgan asks.

Aalgan rolls his eyes. "Of course he is. So, he finally roped you into THAT training, did he?"

"What training?" Bruce asks.

"Training that'll make him useless until it's finished," Aalgan answers. "So, looks like it's up to you and me, which really means that it's up to me."

"We'll see," Bruce tells him.

"Hey! Don't you three have a match to go to?" Lucy demands as she approaches with your father.

"I guess we do," Aalgan tells her. "But these two shouldn't even bother coming."

"I'm sorry, is this coming from the guy who got knocked unconscious in the first round?" Lucy asks with a twinge of annoyance.

Aalgan throws his hands in the air. "You people just can't let it go, can you? I'll show you idiots."

With that, Aalgan turns and heads for the stadium, leaving the rest of you behind.

"Don't leave it all up to him," Lucy tells you. "Knock them dead, guys."

"Thanks," you tell her before running to catch up with Aalgan, Bruce running at your side and soon passing you.

Aalgan and Bruce reach the stadium well before you do, and you feel a twinge of irritation at how much these cuffs have slowed you down. As usual, you're met by jeers when you enter the stadium, and you can tell that Bruce is seriously considering showing some demons the business end of his new hammer.

You see the opposing team across the ring, and they're a somewhat boring looking lot. One looks like a skinny human with spikey black hair standing on his head, another is a three-eyed beast with green skin and a sword. There is also a muscular looking creature whose right hand seems to be a living axe. In the front stands a black-skinned creature with a hunched posture, and spikes covering his body.

In the back of the group is a large, cloaked figure wearing a black helmet reminding you of something out of Star Wars, though the shape is different, it has gold around the eyes and nose, and you can't hear him breathing all the way over here.

"Team Captains, please step into the ring!" Koto calls.

The large, masked man steps into the ring, silently making his way to the center. You hop into the ring and meet him there. He stares down at you, not saying anything, apparently waiting for you to suggest the rules.

"One on one, best of five," you tell him.

The large demon nods, saying nothing.

"And no killing," you add.

At this, he shakes his head, letting you know that he does not agree to that term. You really should have expected as much by now. This is a Dark Tournament, and the demons aren't going to hold off on killing someone if they can help it.

"In typical fashion for team Luke, this match will consist of a series of one on one fights, with the first team to earn three victories being the winner!" Koto announces.

The large creature turns and exits the ring, soon being replaced by the spiked beast, who chuckles in anticipation as he looks at you and your team.

Turning, you leave the ring, and watch as Bruce hops up to take your place. He hefts his hammer over his shoulder as he slowly approaches his opponent, who takes a look at your friend's weapon and begins to back away.

The demon suddenly stops in his tracks, glancing nervously over his shoulder at his captain, who stares at him silently.

"Uh...well, both fighters are in the ring, even if one looks like he wishes he wasn't," Koto comments. "Round one, Bruce vs Kylo! Let the match begin!"

"You can give up if you like," Bruce tells his opponent. "If you walk away now, I won't hurt you."

Kylo looks back over his shoulder at his team captain, takes a deep breath, and charges at Bruce, letting out a roar as he leaps at your friend.

Bruce is ready for him, and swings the hammer, hitting him like a baseball and sending him flying from the ring. Kylo crashes into the stands, flattening a few demons before picking himself back up.

"What do you think?" you ask Aalgan.

"I think Bruce had better make sure to put this guy down for good this time," Aalgan answers. "Kylo's fear of his captain clearly outweighs any fear he has of more pain. Bruce won't be able to make this guy just give up."


"This match doesn't seem like it's going to last long!" Koto tells everyone. "Bruce has swatted Kylo out of the ring and sent him crashing into the crowd! I'll have to begin the customary count of ten!"

Yelling in frustration, Kylo leaps back into the ring, reaching and, with a yell of pain, yanking two large spikes from his elbows. He glares at Bruce, who readies his hammer for the next exchange.

You watch, and begin pacing, throwing punches and kicks at the air as you move around, doing your best to get some training in while you still can.

"Would you stop embarrassing yourself?" Aalgan asks, shaking his head at you.

Kylo rushes forward, ducking beneath a swing from Bruce. He comes up and slashes upward with one of his spikes, cutting through Bruce's shirt and causing him to step back in surprise. Kylo rushes forward, taking advantage of your friend's distracted state and stabbing right at his chest. You see surprise on the demon's face as his spike slides down Bruce's body, rather than going straight through it.

"Bruce's Spirit Energy is protecting him from the worst of these attacks," Aalgan observes. "He can be cut, he can bleed, but that spike won't stab deeply enough to reach his heart."

Bruce brings his hammer down, and Kylo leaps back, tensing up and firing spikes from his body. Bruce yells in surprise as he's sliced by the projectiles, and Kylo lands, preparing to attack again as spikes grow to replace the ones he lost.

Bruce's aura turns orange, and he rushes forward, swinging his hammer wildly and attempting to crush his opponent, who dodges and slashes, barely missing his neck and instead hitting his shoulder. He spins as he lands, leaping back again and firing more spikes.

Bruce turns around just in time to take another barrage, backing up across the ring as more and more cuts appear on his body.

"Now here's the kind of bloody spectacle we've been waiting for!" Koto shouts. "The tables have turned, and Bruce seems unable to defend himself from Kylo!"

Bruce gives a frustrated yell and charges again, his aura turning red.

"Reckless fool," Aalgan chastises.

Kylo rushes to meet the charge, and sidesteps Bruce's swing, slashing across the hand gripping the hammer, and causing Bruce to let go.

As the hammer drops, Kylo leaps at Bruce, striking him in the face with his spiked back and sending him sliding to the edge of the ring. Bruce stays standing, but there's a lot more blood coming out of him.

"He should just give up now," Aalgan tells you.

"Bruce can handle it!" you assure Aalgan, still doing the movements. "Bruce, you're faster than that! Don't let him have the time to attack!"

Bruce begins moving towards his foe again, only to be pushed back by another barrage of spikes.

"Bruce, remember, if we lose here, we all die!" you shout to him. "And not just us, Kara and Kasai, too! They're in no condition to protect themselves! We have to win here and make sure they're safe!"

"Ugh, enough sentimental garbage," Kylo shouts before rushing towards Bruce again. "When we win, the first thing I'm going to do is hunt down those two bitches on your team and slit their throats!"

Bruce tosses his hammer aside, and sidesteps as Kylo slashes at him. He grabs the demon by the wrist and kicks him in the back of the leg, driving him to one knee. His aura is now a bright red, and he's trembling with rage.

"You won't live that long," Bruce promises, slamming his foot into the back of the demon's head.

Kylo's head smashes into the floor of the ring, becoming buried in the stone. Bruce stomps on his head again, burying it further.

The crowd goes silent.

"Well...I guess I'd better start the count!" Koto decides. "One! Two!"

Kylo does not move a muscle, and Koto soon reaches ten.

"Winner! Bruce!" Koto shouts.

The crowd jeers at Bruce, who ignores them and stared right at the other team, still glowing red with anger as he waits for the next fighter to come.

To your surprise, the team captain steps into the ring, staring right back at Bruce.

"Well...this is unexpected," Koto comments. "Round two will be Bruce against Jaculum!"

Bruce picks up his hammer, giving it a swing and pointing at the demon. "Alright, Darth Vader, I'll take you on too!"

Jaculum silently reaches into his cloak and produces a wooden staff. He holds it horizontally in front of himself, and Bruce starts laughing.

"You're gonna use that?!" your friend asks in disbelief. "Hello? I've got a hammer!"

"Begin!" Koto shouts.

You see Jaculum's hands glow red, and that glow soon spreads to cover the entire staff, engulfing it in his demonic energy. Jaculum twirls the staff in his hands, then begins to approach Bruce.

"Alright then, let's do this!" Bruce shouts, rushing towards the demon at top speed.

Bruce swings his hammer downward, and Jaculum raises his staff, catching the hammer's handle and stopping it from reaching him. An instant later, Bruce lets out a surprised yell as he's thrown off of his feet, crashing onto his back and sliding to the edge of the ring. Looking at Jaculum, you see that he hit Bruce not with his staff, but with his palm.

"Bruce, what happened?" you ask.

Your friend's aura is becoming blinding at this point, and the Spirit Energy you're beginning to sense from him is actually quite frightening. Bruce doesn't answer your question, but he slams his palm into the ground with enough force to make it crack as he rises to his feet.

Jaculum, who had been slowly approaching Bruce, pauses, dropping into a defensive position and waiting for his foe to make his move.

Bruce doesn't keep him waiting, yelling incoherently as he charges the cloaked demon, swinging his hammer with all of his strength and aiming for the side of the demon's body.

Jaculum thrusts his staff to block the hammer, once more catching its handle, but this time being sent sliding away by the force of Bruce's strike.

Bruce leaps into the air, swinging his hammer down as he descends. Jaculum leaps back, and Bruce's hammer comes crashing down, creating a crater in the ring and sending some tiles into the air. Spinning his staff, Jaculum, strikes the floating tiles, sending them right for Bruce.

One catches your friend in the face, but he shrugs it off like a bee sting and rushes towards his opponent again, swinging his hammer downward again.

Jaculum parries the hammer with one end of his staff while slamming the other end into Bruce's face. Bruce's head jerks to the side, and Jaculum spins, using his staff to sweep Bruce's legs out from under him. Your friend crashes onto his back, and Jaculum stabs one end of his staff into the back of Bruce's hand.

Bruce releases his hammer, and Jaculum uses his staff to bring up the handle. Seizing it, Jaculum throws the hammer from the ring, sending it crashing into the wall behind you with enough force to knock a few demons from their seats.

Bruce reaches out and grabs Jaculum by the ankle, pulling the demon off of his feet and sending him crashing onto his back. Bruce pushes himself up, and lifts Jaculum by the ankle, but the demon thrusts his palm towards Bruce, who falls back once again. Jaculum slams his staff into Bruce's gut as he falls, forcing you friend to release his grip.

Jaculum lands in a handstand and springs back, putting some distance between himself and Bruce.

Picking himself back up, Bruce screams in rage and rushes towards Jaculum, his aura quite painful to look at. He attacks the demon with a series of powerful punches, but the demon parries them with his staff, and dodges what he can't.

Ducking under a punch, he kicks at Bruce's chest, somehow sending Bruce sliding across the ring again. Bruce charges right back at him, and Jaculum meets the charge, stopping at the last moment and spinning behind Bruce. He brings his staff down hard on the back of Bruce's head, and your friend falls to his knees, his aura fading as he collapses to the ground.

Jaculum looks over at you as he stands over Bruce, his staff poised to strike your unconscious friend again.

You step into the ring, and Jaculum pulls his staff away from Bruce.

The demon stares at you, pulling back his foot and kicking Bruce's unconscious body over to you. You pick him up, and carry him out of the ring, setting him down gently in a spot that you hope will be safe.

"Well, I's say the match goes to Jaculum!" Koto calls. "Team Luke, please send in your next fighter!"

You hop back into the ring, and the crowd cheers in excitement as they call for your head. Cries of "Kill John!" and "Make him bleed!" ring all around you, but one voice gets your attention above the rest.

"What the hell do you think you're doing?" Aalgan demands. "With those cuffs, there's no way you can defeat him! I'm not even sure if you could do it without them."

You step down, and look back to see Jaculum shake his head. He turns and begins to head towards the other edge of the ring.

"What?!" Aalgan snaps in irritation. "Where the hell do you think you're going?!"

Jaculum, predictably, doesn't answer, and just keep walking.

Aalgan snarls, drawing one of his daggers.

"I'll teach you to treat me like I'm nothing!"

Aalgan tosses his dagger with expert precision across the ring, aiming between Jaculum's shoulderblades. The cloaked demon spins, and swats the dagger away with his staff.

"Well..I guess this means that the next match is between Jaculum and Aalgan," Koto says, stepping back.

Jaculum stares silently at Aalgan, kicking the dagger and sending it sliding across the ring to its owner. Aalgan picks it up, quietly promising to make his opponent suffer.

"Begin!" Koto shouts.

Aalgan stabs one of his daggers into the ring, pulling it back up with a tile impaled on it. He throws the dagger and tile across the ring at his foe, who holds out his palm and sends it flying back.

Aalgan curses, leaping out of the way as the tile explodes, sending debris everywhere and letting the dagger fall uselessly to the ground. Jaculum remains where he is, silently inviting Aalgan to make another attempt.

"Speaking of which, I think we have some spectators for this match, too," Aalgan tells you as he picks his dagger back up.

You look around and soon see what he's talking about. Ronove, a creature with scaly skin, and a woman in black with long brown hair, watch the match from above.

Aalgan retrieves a few small orbs from his pocket, and rolls them towards Jaculum, who watches them as they come. They stop a few feet from him, and smoke begins to pour out of them. Aalgan rolls some more orbs towards his foe, and once they're inside the cloud of smoke, they explode, shaking the entire ring.

The smoke soon clears, revealing Jaculum, who, while covered in dust, looks entirely unscathed.

"Dammit," Aalgan curses, gripping his daggers tight. "Extend!"

As you watch, the blades of the daggers extend and grow in size, the hilts doing the same, until Aalgan is holding a pair of swords in his hand.

"Here goes nothing," he says, rushing towards his opponent.

Jaculum is waiting for him, and intercepts Aalgan's sword strikes with his staff. He blocks and parries attack after attack, kicking Aalgan in the gut and sending him sliding back. Your teammate doesn't give up, however, and immediately moves back in for another exchange. Slowly, Jaculum begins to give ground, slowly backing up to the end of the ring. Aalgan's attacks become faster and more ferocious, and Jaculum responds by thrusting his palm towards Aalgan, sending him flying off of his feet.

Aalgan throws his sword, and Jaculum parries it away, only to be thrown off of his feet as something on the hilt explodes. As Jaculum falls, Aalgan throws his other sword, impaling him through the chest, and hitting him with another explosion that throws his body from the ring.

"Yeah, I know," Aalgan tells you, retrieving the sword that's still in the ring.

Gasps from the crowd grab your attention, and you see that Jaculum has gotten back up, seeming to have difficulty standing, he nonetheless pulls the sword from his body, and tosses the bloody weapon to the floor of the ring.

"Damn, what's it take to kill this guy?" Aalgan asks, jumping back and readying to fight with the sword in his hand.

Jaculum climbs back into the ring, readying his staff again and making his way towards Aalgan. Cursing, Aalgan charges, making a strike that Jaculum easily parries. The other demon slams his staff into Aalgan's face, knocking your teammate off of his feet.

Jaculum stands over Aalgan, raising his staff to strike once again, but ultimately going still. He drops his staff and staggers back, holding the spot where Aalgan impaled him. The demon falls to his knees as Aalgan stands back up, retrieving his sword.

"Nice try," Aalgan tells his opponent before removing his head with a clean cut.

The crowd goes silent.

"Uh...well, I guess that makes Aalgan the winner!" Koto shouts.

Jaculum's remaining teammates, who are now blue in the face, turn and run away as fast as they can, disappearing from the stadium.

"Team Jaculum has forfeit!" Koto calls. "Team Luke wins the round!"

As the crowd yells in outrage, Aalgan retrieves his weapons and leaves the ring.

Aalgan smirks, then leaves the stadium. You pick up Bruce and follow, something occurring to you as you do. You stop and mentally contact Koe.

"Ah, John, I was just watching the match," you hear in your mind. "Aalgan performed remarkably. And Bruce displayed more power than I believed him to be capable of wielding."

She doesn't look at you as you come in, just stares straight ahead at nothing. She might not even know you're there.
