Last time, on Star Dust Quest...

Through some heavy fighting, you managed to break the rogue drone assault on the tank hangar with the help of your crew and some lucky tank handling. You're glad you brought the right people to do it—you could fool yourself into thinking you were an actual trained tank crew. With surviving the assault, you found yourself with a shiny new (more like rusty and old) tank in your hangar. What's more, you might get a new crew member...

“Oh my god, please,” the maroon-haired captain says from behind her desk, raising her hand up to massage her eyebrows. Captain My'hra gestures her other hand towards Sya'ra, who's standing giddily to your right. “Take her, take her. Ever since Ley'ra went missing, no one was around to contain this menace.”

“I don't know if I should find this insulting or not,” Sya'ra mumbles, dejectedly.

“I don't know if I should be accepting of this,” you lament while twisting your foot against the floor.

“You shouldn't, really,” My'hra snarks, rolling her eyes.

“But really, you're alright with this, Cap?” Sya'ra asks, clasping her hands together.

“I won't lie, we'll miss your explosions,” she responds, leaning back against her over-sized chair. “But if this is what you want, I won't stop you.”

“Aw yeah, I get to be a space merc!” Sya'ra fist pumps.

“You already are a space merc,” you say, snidely.

My'hra breathes in and out deeply, leaning forward on her chair and then resting her elbows on her desk. She props her head up lazily with both of her hands on each cheek, lazily looking at the papers beneath her. All the while, she stares at you with her sharp, heart-piercing eyes.

“Take good care of her, Gavin,” she says with her low, purring voice. “She might be Sya'ra, but if anything comes to harm of her or Ley'ra on your watch, your ass is mine.”

“Got it, Cap,” you gulp. Chills tickle your spine when her thin lips curl into a cat-like grin.

“I hear you're heading over to Unfound, next,” she comments while sitting up straight, relaxing her hands on the desk.

“We are,” you answer, nodding your head. “Will we be escorted?”

“No, no need for that.”

“Huh, alright then.”

“Send Connell my regards. He's a good guy.”

“Sure, I think he's our contact.”

“He is.”

“Right.”
>>
>>42354853
Awkwardly, you bow your head once more before turning to Sya'ra. Ignoring her sparkling stare, you turn your head back to My'hra with a nod.

“Well, see you sometime in the future, I suppose,” you say.

“Au revior, Gavin,” she responds, waving a hand. She looks to Sya'ra with a warm stare. “Sya'ra.”

You turn to leave the room, walking towards the door.

“See you, Cap.” Sya'ra bows her head before following you.

Without a word, you exit the room with her behind you and enter the hallway. Side by side, you walk towards the lobby where you find the rest of your crew waiting for you. There, Ley'ra, Beth, and Ivan stand up from the chairs they were sitting on while Troy looks up at you, leaning against the wall beside them. Viktor, who was standing in front of them, turns to look at you too, arms crossed.

“Well, she's officially one of us now,” you say, giving each of them an expectant glance.

“Congratulations, Sya'ra,” Viktor says, nodding his head. You're positive he's smiling behind his mask. How he can still wear his trench coat out in this desert planet is a mystery to you.

“Thanks, um, Viktor?” she asks, giving a bashful smile.

“That's me. I'm the ship gunner,” he responds, extending a hand towards her. The two of them shake hands.

“It is always good to have new comrades,” Ivan says, raising both of his hands. Sya'ra shakes his hand next, exchanging a smile. “I am pilot, Ivan. We have too much liquor on the ship.”

“Ooh, I like the sound of that,” Sya'ra comments.

“Troy,” the robot-arm man says, extending his normal hand for a shake. “Ship mechanic.”

“Nice to meet you,” Sya'ra greets, nodding her head. As she turns to Beth, her grin widens.

“I-I'm B--” Beth's cut off with an enthusiastic shake of her hand. “Guh.”

“I know you, miss medic. I sure hope we don't have to share rooms,” Sya'ra winks.
>>
>>42354866
“Eugh,” Beth grimaces, leaving a sour look on her face. She shoots you a weary glance. “I'm pretty sure we don't.” You give a toothy grin in return, causing her eye to twitch.

“And you know me,” Ley'ra says, a warm tone to her words.

“The ship's redhead, I know,” Sya'ra laughs, pulling her into a surprise hug. Ley'ra rolls her eyes.

Once again, you find yourself underneath the blazing hot Crown star. Behind you is your crew, and with a glance back, you see Ivan doing his weird dance as his boots melt against the paved ground again. Beside him walking eerily straight is Viktor, still clad in his heavy trench coat. You're positive he's some sort of robot at this point.

“So, there's just two more crew members for you to meet,” you say to Sya'ra, walking beside you. “One of them you've already kinda met. He was our drone controller, Pete.”

“Oh yeah, the guy on the comms,” she comments.

“Yeah, him. He's our professional hacker guy.”

“So he's a nerd?”

“Well...” you pause for a moment, thinking back to when you caught him watching cartoons. “Kind of, I guess.”

“It's a small crew,” she says, surprisingly calmly.

“It is, but I think I kind of prefer it that way.”

“I do, too.”

Your group gets to the back of your ship, the back hangar doors still open. Inside, you can see the tank and dunebuggy already parked. You wonder what sorts of things you'll use the tank for, henceforth.

“We're going to Unfound next, yeah?” she asks, looking to you.

“We are. I'm glad we got another combat crew member for the job,” you say with a smile.

“I've always been curious of what's going on there. The Dustkeepers sound fun--we always send them supplies and they give us cool stuff in return.”

“Oh?”

“Yeah. Otherwise, we mostly just keep out of each other's business; we're a city away from each other with our own problems anyways.”

“Interesting. Hopefully that means that some Cerberus flesh will put us on good terms with them.”

“Meaty.”

You stop just inside the hangar with your group, turning around to face them. In particular, you shoot a glance over to Troy and Viktor.

“Can you guys take a look at the particle blaster?” you ask. The two of them shoot a glance towards each other. “See what caused it to blow up.”
>>
>>42355763
“Can do, Gavin,” Troy says with a nod, glancing over to Viktor again.

“Will do,” Viktor agrees. “Though, I do specialize in different weapon systems.”

“I know, but any input is good,” you remark as the two walk off into the ship. Next, you look over to Ley'ra and Beth. “Go get ready, I believe we'll leave as soon as we determine what's up with that turret.”

“Okay,” Ley'ra says, giving both you and Sya'ra a nod before walking off into the ship herself.

“I'm gonna go check on Starburst,” Beth announces before leaving, herself.

“Starburst?” Sya'ra asks, quirking an eyebrow.

“Our pet cat. But her real name is Bethany.”

“Beth?”

“No, the cat.”

“The cat is Bethany?”

“Yeah. That's Beth,” you say, pointing to Beth at the other side of the room. She simply shoots up a middle finger, directed at you. Helplessly, Sya'ra scratches her head. Noticing this, you give a chuckle. “Don't worry about it.”

“Huh.”

“Let's go see what Pete's up to,” you offer, turning to walk into the ship yourself with Sya'ra beside you. “He's been trying to break into a datachip we found on a secret Fed research facility.”

“Ooh. Sounds secret.”

“I know.” You bring up your wrist and open up the menu of your smart-ring. “Hope you don't mind if I browse for goods a little.”

“Go ahead, Cap-cap.”

“Sya,ra, please.”

Sya'ra has her own gear right?
>>
>>42355785
A crate of each grenade type and a Infantry armor set for ourselves.
>>
>>42355861
She does.

Name: Sya'ra Degala
Approval: 7/10
Alignment: Luos Syndicate
Job/Specialty: Combat
Armour: Infantry
Weapons: H23 (rifle, kinetic), Bandit-12 (revolver, kinetic), Explody Thing (rocket launcher, explosive)
>>
>>42355785
a crate of Breacher grenades and a suit of Infantry armor for us
>>
>>42355763
I kinda wanna get a Mantis for Comet
>>
>>42355931
We haven't tested the rifle that we stole from her facility yet. Maybe it's better.
>>
>>42355785
I'm thinking we should upgrade one of our armor sets.
also buy another tonne of ammunition, both types. especially tank shells
>>42355939
I think we gave it to troy.
>>
>>42355785
Heavy laser Cannon.

We don't have a main weapon anymore.
>>
>>42355980
the guys are fixing the turret so we will
>>
>>42355980
I am 99% sure we still have an artillery cannon. it just needs repairs.
>>
>>42355980
Never mind we have the Artillery Cannon. I read the ship pastebin wrong.
>>
>>42355886
oh, SDA, can the ship be used to attack ground targets?, those cannons might be useful as long as were fighting outside. and viktor is on board.
>>
>>42355947
>I think we gave it to troy.
Huh, indeed we did.
Still, we don't have any idea what Comet's strengths in combat are, feels a little premature to invest so much in a weapon.
>>
>>42355785
I'd be OK with 2 more Infantry armors. Most of our crew just have survivalist.
>>
>>42356066
One day anon, everyone will get power armour. and then we'll all die.
>>
>>42356057
We need to put her in a combat sim at the next space station, see what she does.
>>
We have 8 ship weapon slots available. I feel like that's just wasted space.

We could buy 5 Machine guns. Which would makes our ship dangerous as hell in short range.
>>
>>42356057
Wait, does Comet not have a weapon? If so, I think we have a pistol in the armory to give her. Leave nobody without a weapon.
>>
I think dual Flak would work great with our dual Auto
>>
>>42356123
I'm not even sure whether she _wants_ to fight.
>>
>>42356123
we have a somewhat stocked armory. if she needs it, she has a weapon.
here's to hoping she sticks with ship gunning.
>>
>>42356124
But I don't think we'll run into that many drones or fighters. I'd rather buy 4 Machine gun turrets. It would cost almost the same.
>>
>>42356036
Of course.

>>42356057
Troy has the Angel equipped right now.

>>42356123
Comet has no weapons right now.
>>
>>42356194
Then give her the c 2911 from our armory
>>
>>42356194
>Troy has the Angel equipped right now.
Oh, by the way. He did use it on this latest mission, didn't he? Can we ask him what does he think about the Angel?
>>
For the people saying Comet doesn't have a weapon. Our current Armory:

>1x C 2911 (handgun, kinetic)
>1x Bandit-12 (revolver, kinetic)
>1x Burial M55 (rifle, kinetic)
>1x AS-12/45 (shotgun, kinetic)
>1x Devil's Kiss (PDW, plasma)
>1x Espingarda Model 80 (shotgun, kinetic)

>13x Flash-bangs
>7x Hi-ex Grenades
>3x EMP Grenades

>4x Bulletproof Vests

If we buy anything right now I'd say ships guns.
>>
>>42355763
How much would it cost to upgrade our particle blaster into a full on Heavy Laser Cannon?
>>
>>42356285
I think they are different systems. it would probably cost the full price of the laser cannon.
>>
>>42356285
If this can be done it, it could be one of the best upgrade
>>
>>42356285
I don't thin upgrading is an option. We could sell the particle blaster then buy the laser cannon. But if you're doing that then why not have both?
>>
>>42356285
>>42356304
They are different weapon systems, unfortunately.
>>
>>42356285
Comet uses the particle blaster, dunno if she could use a heavy laser canon
>>
>>42356241
I'm still up for buying a Mantis just so we've go that weapon type in the armory if we need it. It's not a bad gun.
>>
so, anons, we need to make a decision.
lets break it down in to ship weapons, crew weapons, and armor shall we? and then work from there
>>
>>42356426
I want a suit of Infantry armor for us to use, and some breacher grenades, they provide a lot of utility, outside of that I wouldn't mind some machine gun or flak turrets for the ship
>>
Armor and grenades. We can stock up on ship weapons before we go off planet. In the meantime we should be preparing to fight mutants on the ground.
>>
>>42356426
We're not leaving the planet yet, are we? So we don't have to decide on the ship weapon right now. Let's get some grenades and armor, and go do the next mission before looking at ship weapons. In fact, I'd even postpone getting armor until we see what our next destination has to offer.
>>
>>42356514
exactly

we should also get stuff for our tank like ammo and parts if we need them, it might come in handy for this mission
>>
>>42356468
I was all about some ship guns but now that I think about it. Our next stop is Dustkeeper central. They'll probably have a bunch of Herald tech. We should save our money for when we get to Unfound.
>>
>>42356468
I'll support infrantry armor and some breacher grenades, we can get a ship weapon before we leave the planet.
also more tank rounds. anything that kills mutants.
>>
>>42356557
>They'll probably have a bunch of Herald tech. We should save our money for when we get to Unfound.
This.

We get what cheap stuff we need here we can, like grenades and armor, and the rest we can get fancy stuff when we get to Unfound.
>>
>>42356539
The QM automatically deducts the cost of ammo and food from our funds. All of that is done odd screen so we as players never see it. So ammo and spare parts might as well be free.
>>
>>42356426
Buy a Mantis and a Machine Gun so we can use Ship Weapons without it automatically being Danger Close.
>>
OTOH, if they've been fighting off mutants all this time, they might be low on stuff.
Can we contact them from here and ask if they want us to bring something? Maybe recommend a loadout, and/or have us bring some supplies for them. I'd even do it for zero profit, reputation is good enough in this case.
>>
>>42356637
Ceberus gives them supplies.
>>
>>42356637
>Bring everything
>>
>>42355785
I made a mistake, we've got 210,000 credits in our wallet, not 200,000.

Still waiting on a decision.
>>
>>42356722
1 Infantry armor for ourselves.
1 crate of breacher grenades.

Save rest of money for Dustkeeper shop
>>
>>42356722
Infantry armor, and breacher grenades
>>
What's a "full body tactical" armor? Is it better than Infantry?
>>
>>42356722
1 Infantry Armor for us
1 box of Frag grenades because we almost out.
>85K

Everything else can wait until we get to Unfound. We'll be fighting mutants on the ground so we don't need more ship guns right now. They'll probably have a tonne of cool shit and I want to have money to spend when we get there.
>>
>>42356758
>>42356796
Trade Breach Grenades for Frag grenades. We're going to be fighting Mutants on the ground. We're probably not going to breaching anything. Also we're running low on frag's.
>>
>>42356874
Why not both? breaking through a wall might be useful.
>>
>>42356874
Both then, they aren't too expensive.
>>
>>42355785
Proposed purchases:

1x Infantry Armour (80k)
1x Breacher Grenades Crate (20k)
1x Frag Grenades Crate (5k)

>>

I propose we make that 2x Infantry. Because Beth has shit for armor currently.
>>

>>
>>42356998

-1x Breacher, because useless
+1x Frag, because less useless

to become:

2x Infantry
2x Frag

>>42357064

>>
>>42356974
>Y
>>
>>42357175
She already has Full-body Tactical Armor. That's not what I would call bad armor. It's not like she's going to be on the front line acting like a human shield.
>>
>>42357268
All the same, best not to tempt fate. Beth needs her infantry armor.
>>
>>42357425
we could always keep her in the tank. if it gets through that armor she's dead anyways.
>>
>>42356974
Altered purchases:

2x Infantry Armour (160k)
2x Frag Grenades Crate (10k)

Wallet after purchases: 105,000 credits
>>
>>42357536
also acceptable.
I just want to continue at this point.
>>
>>42357536
Whoops, I mean 40,000 credits after purchases left in wallet. Ignore that.
>>
>>42357536
No
>>
>>42357552
Just use the original proposal already, it had 5 votes against 2 for this one. Let's move on.
>>
>>42357536
nope, stick with >>42356974
>>
>>42357536
We don't need to spend 80k on 1 extra armor box thing for someone that wont even be on the front lines.
>>
>>42357526
Dude. Do you really wanna try to move wounded people? Much less fit them through the hatch of a tank? Doctor gotta come out sometime.
>>
>>42357536
Veto

Go with the original proposal
>>
>>42357620
presumably the wounded person wont be out in the open. because if they are you generally just leave them. no point losing two.
>>
>>42357655
Presume nothing except that Murphy's Law will be in effect.
>>
>>42357655
you don't leave them you retard, you push the enemy back and give cover to rescuing forces so they are safe
>>
>>42357655
You don't do that at all...
>>
>>42357620
Tactical Armor has lower mobility. Medic's need mobility.
>>
>>42356974
Okay, we're going with this. Confirmed and moving on.
>>
>>42357682
Everyone loves murphy's law
>>42357708
you do your damn hardest to get them yes, though I think we are all forgetting that whatever you do is entirely dependent on the specifics of the situation.
You may have to leave them, you may be able to push back and retrieve them. they may be out of the enemies line of sight and immediately reachable by someone who can keep them alive. anything is possible.
>>
>>42357789
But you don't just go "hurr durr generally you leave them" like a fucking retard.
>>
>>42356974
Purchase confirmed.

“Neato, that's more stuff for us,” you mutter, nodding to yourself while you close the smart-ring menu.

“Hmm?” Sya'ra hums beside you.

“I bought some more grenades and new armour for myself.”

“Neat,” she comments, turning a corner with you. Pete's work room is just ahead. “You've got a weapons room?”

“We do, and we've become surprisingly stocked after looting some bandits.”

“Looting is my favourite part.”

“It's fun, yeah,” you say, patting the shiny Deputy revolver fastened to your belt. “I'll bring you there after, but it's time to meet Pete.”

Turning into the doorway of the room, you knock on the wall to your right. Sure enough, you see Pete watching his shows again on one of his bright monitors.

“Oh, you're back,” he greets calmly, looking at the both of you. “And I see you've brought our newest crew member.”

“Mhm,” Sya'ra greets back before you can say anything, walking up to him and extending an arm. “I'm Sya'ra.”

“I've heard all about you,” he chuckles. “I was the newest member until you.”

“Oh, neat. How're you finding it here?”

“Surprisingly fun. These are all good lads to be around,” he says, giving you a smile. You simply shrug.

“Sounds like my kinda people,” Sya'ra laughs. “I'll be another shooty crew member of yours. Ley'ra doesn't have to do it all herself now.”

“That's good. Watching you guys on camera puts me a little too much on edge. Sometimes I feel like I'm watching a horror movie about to unfold.”

“That's the exciting life of our crew,” you chime in, walking forward with your eyes on his computer screens. “So, Pete, what's the progress on the datachip?”

“Actually, quite a lot has happened...” he drifts off, swerving around his chair to rummage through a pile of computer equipment to his left. “Give me a moment.”
>>
>>42357811
you have the wrong anon. like I said, the situation is everything. we can't really assume anything.
>>
>>42357854
Pete pulls out a small storage device and offers it to you that's roughly the size of the palm of your hand. A sticker was slapped onto its surface bearing nothing but a large red X drawn with a violet permanent marker.

“A purple X on a hard drive?” you comment, taking the hard drive into your hands. It's surprisingly heavy for its size.

“I don't have a red marker, but if I did, it would be red.”

“That sounds bad?” Sya'ra suggests.

“Kind of.” Pete takes in a deep breath before leaning forward on his chair towards you. “Would you believe me if I said that there was a program on the datachip?”

You blink and exchange a confused glance with Sya'ra. “A program?”

“Yeah, software. Code.”

“What about it?”

“More specifically, an AI.” He leans back and sighs, earning another confused blink from you. “That datachip is worth a lot more than we suspected.”

“Mind not keeping us in the dark?” you ask, trying to goad the answer out of him.

“Sorry, but there's just... well, a lot to this than I can explain at once.”

“Try to explain it as lightly as you can so Sya'ra here can understand,” you snide with a grin.

“Hey!” she yells, punching you rather hard in the shoulder. You laugh. “I could probably understand more than you.”

“Wait, really?”

“Yeah. Maybe.”

“Anyways,” Pete cuts in, “as I was saying, this datachip has an unrecognizable amount of storage inside. I have no idea what technology allows it to have a seemingly endless amount of space, but it does, as far as the tech at my disposal is aware of.”

You nod your head while glancing over to the datachip inside of the card reader beside Pete. That alone could be worth a lot of credits.

“Anyways,” he continues, “AI of today normally doesn't need that much space, but this one's... quite large. I didn't encounter it until I was through about seventy terabytes of data, most of which is encrypted or useless jargon.”
>>
>>42357904
“Holy shit,” Sya'ra breathes.

“Yup. When I found it, it auto-ran. And lad, I almost lost the ship. Be thankful I did it in a closed environment.”

“It tried to take over the ship?” you ask with an edge to your voice.

“Naturally. I think its wake up process is to just search its surroundings, but it was so quick and impossibly large that the computer crashed.”

“And this hard drive is where it was contained?”

“Yes. And I can't access it, lest this happens...” Pete gestures over to two other hard drives on his desk with similar green X's on them. “It does the same to any other storage. It takes over memory and cache, but I can flush it out of those. I can't image the datachip for analysis either, since it's too large to be housed anywhere else.”

“So... you're saying that this thing is alive?”

“Quite possibly,” he finishes with a huff.

You look down at the hard drive in your hands again, and a glance over to Sya'ra confirms that she's just as lost as you are. Maybe you'll call it a truce for now.

“What do you think of this?” you ask him, giving him a helpless look.

“I'm ecstatic, I have never seen anything like this before. If we're going to unlock the secrets to this, we need a better computer than this,” he says, knocking on the computer behind him.

“And what kind of computer would that be?”

He takes a deep breath in, leaning his head back against the headrest of his chair before speaking. “A computer that we probably can't get our hands on just yet... I'm going to have to look into it.”

“I'm ecstatic, I have never seen anything like this before. If we're going to unlock the secrets to this, we need a better computer.”

“Whatever you do, do it safely,” you answer, closing your eyes and nodding your head. “Just try not to lead anyone back to us.”

Pete smiles and nods his head, extending his hand. You give back the hard drive to him.

“Got it, Gavin. I'll see where we could safely analyze this,” he responds, taking the hard drive and placing it on his desk.

“Have any ideas where we could start?”

“I do, actually. I might have to contact that Talon friend of yours.”

“Him? Really?”

“It's a start.”

“Who's him?” Sya'ra asks, tilting her head at you.

“A Talon pilot who's following us,” you answer, turning to leave the room. As Sya'ra follows you out, Pete turns back to his computer presumably to do some research.
>>
>>42358304
“Whoa, whoa. You're not in beef with the Talons, are you?”

“No. He's following us as a bodyguard of sorts.”

Her eyes widen. “No way. How the hell did you get a Talon bodyguard?”

“Don't ask.”

“They normally don't do things like that. You must have links, then.”

“...You could say that.”

“Our last crew member is Comet,” you say as you walk. You hope to find her in the lounge, though you aren't really sure where else Comet hangs out.

“You have a comet as a crew member?” Sya'ra asks.

“No.” You shoot her an annoyed glance, though you see that she's grinning. “Her name is Comet.”

“Just... Comet?”

“Yup. Just Comet.”

“Just Comet?”

“No, her name is Comet.”

“Yeah. Comet.”

“Yes, that.”

Sya'ra giggles. “What a weird name.”

“I think it's cool.”

“So, what does she do?”

You pause, taking a moment to think about it. “She's our energy-weapon ship gunner. You saw how I sent Troy and Viktor to investigate that particle blaster?”

“Yup.”

“It blew up on her. Apparently overheated.”

“Oh, wow. That happens, but usually from badly-manufactured blasters.”

“You know much about weapons?”

“Weapons are me, Gav-Gav.”

“Hmm. Maybe I should've gotten you to look at it, then.”

“Maybe you should've.”

Finally, you turn into the lounge of your ship. Thankfully, you see a pile of blankets on the corner couch there, and laying down on her side is Comet. She seems to be resting peacefully, but her eyes are open. Upon entering, she shoots her gaze towards you and Sya'ra.

“Hi, Comet,” you greet, coming up to her and sitting down on the couch opposite of hers. She sits up, blankets still around her. They're covering her weird suit.

“Hi, Gavin.” She looks over to Sya'ra, who plops herself down beside you. “Who's she?”
>>
>>42359192
“That's Sya'ra, our newest crew member,” you answer, gesturing to them.

“Hi,” Sya'ra greets, extending a hand.

“Hi,” Comet replies, staring at Sya'ra's hand. Reluctantly, she shifts a little underneath her blankets before extending her own. “Nice to meet you.”

“Likewise. Glad to meet another blonde,” Sya'ra remarks, grinning.

“Oh, yeah,” Comet giggles, finally shaking hands.

“How're you feeling, Comet?” you ask, still concerned from what happened earlier.

“I'm okay, I think I was just a little shocked and passed out,” she answers, giving you a bashful smile.

“Glad to hear. We're having Troy and Viktor look into the blaster, but until it's fixed, I want you to take it easy. Okay?”

“Okay.”

“Do you think you can get back on the turret once it's up?”

“If it's safe, I can.”

“Good. We're going to be heading to our next destination soon.” She nods her head a little, but you keep a stern look on her.

“Comet, do you know about our next mission?” you ask carefully, keeping your eyes locked with hers. Her expression doesn't waver.

“I have read about it,” she admits, giving a small nod.

“Okay. What do you think?” you press, letting your words drain into the air. Still her expression remains neutral, though she doesn't answer right away. You hear a slightly confused Sya'ra beside you shift to look between the two of you. After Comet blinks her icey blue eyes once, she closes them and lets out a small breath. She opens them slowly, still looking at you with her back straight.

“I can do it,” she answers, simply. It's time for you to sigh.

“Are you sure? It sounds like it might have some intense fighting.”

“I know.”

“We have yet to assess your combat skills.”

“I can stay in the back,” she pleads, sitting at the edge of her seat. You briefly look at her knees before meeting her eyes again.

“...You want to go?”

“I do.”

“Have you been in combat before?”

Comet breathes in deeply, her eyes falling to the floor. “Simulations,” she whispers.

“Simulations?” you ask, your voice stoic as ever. You don't want her to feel insecure, but you kind of feel like she can fall apart at any moment.

“Yes,” she takes, breathing in sharply. “I promise I won't get in the way.”

“Alright, Comet. You're coming on the next mission, then,” you say. Her eyes brighten and her lips finally curl into a smile.

“Thank you, Gavin,” she says lightly, bowing her head.

“Hey, what about me?” Sya'ra asks, putting a hand on your shoulder. You roll your eyes and turn to her.

“Yes, you're our point-man. Girl. Ley'ra's still injured, so I don't want her in front.”

“So if I get eaten by mutants, you can escape with your wife?” she asks innocently.

“Yes, that's precisely why.”

“Yay.”

“Come on, I”ll show you to our armoury,” you announce, standing up and turning to Comet. “We'll be taking off for Unfound soon, so you should get ready.”

“Okay, Gavin,” she affirms, nodding her head again. “But I don't have any weapons.”

“Oh yeah.” You scratch your chin. “Oh well, we'll discuss that when we're at Unfound.”

“Alright.”

“Mhm.” You give her a nod and gesture for Sya'ra to follow you out of the room. After a short walk from the lounge, you find yourself in front of the arsenal.

“So, this is the arsenal,” you say, as you enter the room. Just a few days ago, this place was empty. Your heart is a little warmed to see it populated with a surprising variation of weaponry, some of it you've never even dreamed of seeing before.

“Ooh, nice collection. I know this one,” Sya'ra chimes in, walking over to a table on the left side of the room. There rests the Burial M55 rifle fitted with a scope and bipod. “I had a sniper battle with someone who used this.”

“Did you win?”

“I liquified her through use of stasis and hi-ex grenades, then incinerated her remains.”

“Sounds painful.”

“It better have been.” Sya'ra picks up a nearby C 2911 handgun, examining it in her hands. “Kind of crude stuff you've got, though.”

“Most of it, we looted off of deadbeat bandits,” you say, walking over to her.
>>
>>42362107
I'm kind of confused why you brought up stacking armor, I thought it was a given that thicker armor is better at stopping a shot.
>>
>>42362149
“Fair enough.” As if to show off, she suddenly dismantles the handgun in seconds. “Crude, but surprisingly well built. I love these things.”

“You look like you know your way around this stuff.”

“Weapons are me, Gavin.”

The sound of someone walking into the room alerts you to a new presence, and at the doorway you see Ley'ra carrying a crate into the room.

“Hi Ley'ra.” You wave a hand.

“Hi,” she responds, piling the crate onto another one by the door. “New stuff just came in.”

“Oh, yeah. I just bought some grenades and new armour for myself,” you say, walking up to the crates. You open up the lid to see a bunch of frag grenades inside. “We go through these a little quickly.”

“We do,” Ley'ra agrees. Sya'ra pokes her cheek, earning a yelp.

“Oh, neato. You guys have lots of grenades,” she comments, looking into the crate.

“We do now,” you say.

“Got any hi-ex?”

“A bunch. Just got some breachers, too.”

“Neato! That's all I need to blow up a city.”

You sigh. “The scary part is that I believe you.”

“I'm going to go check up on Troy and Viktor,” you say, taking a step back from the duo. “You girls good?”

“Mhm,” Ley'ra answers with a nod. “I've got to organize this arsenal anyways.”

“Oh, I'll help!” Sya'ra says, looking around the room before looking to you. “One thing you have to know about Ley'ra is that she's a bit of a neat freak.”

“I'm not.”

“Compared to me, you are.”

“I don't think that's saying much.”

You kind of have to agree with Ley'ra, there. Chuckling to yourself, you wave at them before turning to leave the room.

As you walk towards the hangar, you meet up with Bethany who begins to purr as she walks alongside you. Shrugging to yourself, you enter the hangar to see the particle blaster laid out across a large table in pieces. Bethany climbs up onto the table and begins to pat away at a piece of the outer shell of the gun. However, Viktor picks her up and holds her in place, lest she ruin things further.

“No doubt about it Gavin,” Troy says, looking into the large reciever of the gun. “Heat sinks were broken before this gun ever operated, and that led to the crystal lens to overheat and explode.”

“So, what does that mean for the gun?” you ask, looking at what you think is the heat sink in front of you; an orange rectangle of metal with many thin fins fanning out across the surface.

“Just need a replacement crystal and new heat sinks. Rest of the gun looks fine with some cleaning,” he says, looking up to you from the gun's interior.
>>
>>42362879
“Costly?”

“Kind of. Heat sinks should be cheap, but the lens is usually the most expensive part of these weapons. Doesn't seem to be any replacement parts here with the Cerberus Legion, though.”

“Damn, so we can't operate it until we can find parts?”

“I think we'll have luck over at Unfound,” Viktor adds in while petting Bethany who's resting between his arms. He looks really evil right now. “Those Dustkeepers have all kinds of bits and pieces. They're prepared for anything.”

You look between Viktor and Troy. “I guess we'll have to try our luck on them then.”

You take in a deep sigh and shake your head. “Alright, the sooner we get to Unfound, the better.”

“Alright, Gavin,” Troy says, placing down a wrench before walking off towards the other side of the hangar. “I'll go close the cargo bay doors.”

“I guess I'll go warn the others,” Viktor says, bringing the struggling cat with him.

“Thanks, Viktor.” You take off in a jog towards the front of the ship, passing by Beth as you jog past the infirmary. She shoots you a weirded out face, shrugging you off as you disappear around the next corner. When you finally get to the cockpit, you see Ivan just pulling on his mask.

“Damn, so close,” you mutter, panting as you sit down on your co-pilot seat.

“It will take much more than that to trick Ivan, comrade,” he laughs.

“One of these days, I swear.”

“Maybe so,” he laughs again. “So, are we leaving?”

“We are. Do you know where it's located?” you ask, pulling up the world map to your left. There isn't much for many miles around, though you see the other crumbled city a good 17km in the opposite direction of Frundt.

“Way ahead of you, comrade. Everyone is on board?”

“Yep. Take us to Unfound, Ivan.”
