>Fuck, I blew it.

You suck deep on a cigarette given to you by... who? The smoke coats your dry mouth with tar before rushing down into your lungs. You cough, almost dropping the cigarette from your lips before you recover your composure. You imagine the nicotine as it rushes through your blood stream and into your brain, stimulating a half a dozen different transmitters and doing it's best to solicit your addictive tendencies.

Poor nicotine, you think. It barely takes the edge off your cocaine comedown.

>Effects of COCAINE lost!
>Comedown in effect!
>Effects mitigated by NICOTINE
>-1 awareness
>Nerves [7/12] (reverted to pre-coke score -1)
>STR/STA [11/12] (reverted to pre-coke score -1)
>Healthier Lungs Progress -1

You feel hollowed out, unable to bring the nights events into focus. Bits of the action play over and over again in your head. The instability of your mind makes you anxious but you're sure could make that go away if you just had a little more cocaine. More cocaine... like you have in the van!

You stand up suddenly and make as if to dash forward only to have a heavy hand slapped across your chest, stopping you in your tracks. You wobble, uncertain of your own balance, and the hand steadies you.

<You can't leave yet, crazy devilman. We have to wait.>

Pffah. An old man spits on the ground across from you, showing his disapproval.

<This place is exposed, Zheng. Surely someone heard the commotion and called the Scyths.>

The large man who has so kindly taken your gun from you, snarls.

<We have credit with the Scyths. They won't come here.>

<You idiot, that's exactly it! Why spend credit here!?>

<Calm down idiot. They'll be here soon.>

[2/2]

The old man grimaces, then swipes the cigarette from your mouth and replaces it with a fresh one. He puffs away at the last of the old stub while lighting yours afresh with his knobby hands. They are remarkably steady.

<It's devilman who needs to be calm. He's still very high.>

<On what?>

<Crusty...> you say, addressing the old man.

<What?>

<I fucking told you... I don't fuckin'... burn... ignite... uh...>

<Don't bite the feeding hand, devilman.>

Silence for a few minutes. The three of you are clustered in a small room behind the bar where you've dragged the enormous corpse of Hsaio the doorman. There's another door with a sophisticated looking lock on it in the rear of the room but you haven't asked about it yet. Zheng looks at it and back to Crusty.

<You didn't hide with the ladies, John?>
<No...>

The phone in Zheng's pocket buzzes.

<They're here.>

Somewhere upstairs you hear the front door opening and then the sound of boots tromping down the stairs. Men in black uniforms filter into the room, clouding your vision like a sinister haze. They bark questions at Crusty and Zheng, voices muffled by tightly sealed face masks. They grab you under the arms and pull you to your feet. Then they cuff and blindfold you, leading you out the door. You climb some stairs and then feel the fresh air on your skin. They're taking you somewhere and you try to formulate at least one decent question with your scrambled mind and underwhelming Chinese.

>Pick one:

>”Where are we going?”
>”Who are you people?”
>”Are you going to hurt me?

You do your best to compose yourself and ask what's on your mind. You're semi-successful and it helps you phrase your question a little better.

<Who are you and why are you taking me?>

<You will see who we are. We are taking you to talk.>

It's not a lot of information but knowing this is more about talking than killing you and sinking your body to the bottom of the ocean is comforting.

You're thrown into the back of a van and you hope for a few stupid seconds that it's your own van. It's not of course and you're no closer to your precious cocaine than you were before. You hear distant laughter and discussion in Chinese as the van lurches into motion, none of which you can really comprehend.

Someone reaches into your pocket and pulls out your wallet. There is a sound of surprise nearby. It sounds like Crusty.

<You did not mention you were an exterminator, devil man. That's not good.>

You groan. What's left of your ear jiggles raggedly every time the van hits a bump.

<Please, don't tell them if its a bad thing. I don't want to die.>

<Stupid devilman, I am one of them. But I do not think they will kill you.>

He goes silent, leaving you to your anxious thoughts and throbbing pain in your head.

After a time the van pulls to a stop and you're pulled out. Anonymous hands march you into a building somewhere and through a virtual maze of twists and turns.

<That's enough, he's too out of it to remember much anyway.>

The march changes pace and you're yanked upright. The blindfold comes off and you're suddenly in a room flush with activity. Two rows of men and women in black uniforms wearing VR headsets type and gesture into thin air, the mouths forming silent commands. You're walked between them, watching their strange gesticulations with fascination.

[1/2]

[2/2]

At the head of the room you're confronted by a man that you sense is the leader of this operation. Unlike the men who abducted you his face is only half masked so you can see his eyes and the scarred flesh that reaches up towards them. He's flanked by two figures that you recognize as Crusty and Zheng, apparently taking their debriefing personally. His eyes flash to you as you get close.

<This is the devilman? He looks fat.>

<Don't insult>, you shoot back.

<Not insulting. Expected American spy to be more fit->, his eyes drift towards your hat, <-and more subtle.>

Crusty interjects.

<I don't think->

<I know he's not a spy. Too fat and obvious, like I said.>

The head honcho turns his attention back to you.

<American, you work for GEC, no?>

You're a bit nervous. He laughs at your response though and you take that as better than direct hostility.

<What rank?>

<Certified exterminator.>

The leader beckons to someone standing behind you and they step forward, revealing themselves as yet another of these black uniformed goons. They make their way to the leader's side and whisper into his ear and he nods uncomprehendingly before speaking again.

<That's not terribly high is it? You must not make much.>

You consider your response:

>I make enough to get by.
>I don't get paid nearly enough for the shit they put me through.

You see no point in lying.

<GEC pays me for specimens. And mating animals.>

<Specimens? Specimens of what? Mutants or common sparrows? The former I think, right?>

<I haven't turned in a sparrow yet.>

He chuckles and steps towards you, speaking in English.

"I'm always interested in a little money."

"What about a lot of money?"

You agree that would be good as well.

He claps his gloved hands with delight.

<Excellent! So here's a deal then. We pay you for inside information from GEC. Regarding its internal experiments and specimens. We will pay for anything but the premium price is for that kind of information. Premium is $150 for a substantial piece of info, $300 for a small specimen, and $1000 for a substantial one. Especially if it's humanoid.>

He pauses, hands outstretched plaintively.

<Ok?>

"Ah", he says, "Worried about-", he makes an explosion sound with his mouth while waving his hands around his head "-that?"

He laughs and for an instant you wonder if he knows a way around it.

<It is a problem with you people. But it is a risk you would run until a stronger bond runs between us.>

A pause.

<You are not being coerced to do this, remember. We take precautions. You are speaking to me in safety, GECs tracker shows you in safe place right now. They only blow you if they know you blow them. Understand?>

You understand.

Your proposition for alternative business shut down, you consider the other aspects of the deal, dimly turning them over like pyrite in your minds eye.

<Tell me, how much info do I need to get paid? And what else will you pay me for?>

<Substantial is anything with heft. I appreciate both quantity and quality. And exclusivity. Use your dense American brain but do not be remiss. A somewhat smaller fee will be paid for lesser details, in case they are useful.>

That didn't clarify much but it sounded liberal.

<Is there anything else I can deliver onto you?>

The leader scratches thoughtfully at the scarring protruding from his mask.

<Unique technology would be paid for with handsome dues. And anything you deem interesting and unknown in your travels. From the look on your face you have ideas now, so I'll stop.>

<Okay, okay... But what if I want something else in payment? Or if I desire contact with a specimen?>

He mimes tapping a non-existent watch on his wrist. Then the blindfold goes back over your eyes and you're led away.

The way back is as baffling as the way in was and you pass in and out of sleep, exhausted by the nights events. Eventually you're woken by the gravelly embrace of concrete. You're on the street outside the club.

Rubbing your cheeks you express some regret at never having gotten to see "the girls" but you succeed in stumbling back to your van, telling it to drive you home, and then crashing onto your couch, losing consciousness instantly.

You decide to let the boxes wait until after your run, when you can scan them with your thermal goggles. Locking the door behind you, you jog for all of 8 blocks before you start to wheeze.

Still, you persevere unto the local playground, where you stress your joints doing pull-ups on the monkeybars. You manage about 7 before dropping to the ground. Seems like prison doesn't make you automatically good at this kind of thing after all.

As you lay there panting, a familiar face looms over you.

"You never called me, jackass."

It's Inspector Lopez.

"Sorry about that, I was, uh, occupied."

"Do you know what I had to do to track you here?"

"Nope."

"Good. because you don't want to."

He helps you to your feet.

"I've got a perp in regards to our little murder case. The media is eating it up, if you haven't noticed."

You have to admit that you haven't.

"Well, we're almost set to bring him to trial. The only problem is, we don't have the evidence to place him at the scene of the crime. Or we do, we just need you to testify that it was there."

You see where this is going.

"You see where I'm going with this, right?"

All we need you to do is testify that you found something of his at the scene of the crime to demonstrate that he threw an innocent child to a bunch of vicious man-eating bats. "Maybe."

In the first box you find two custom 9mms with integrated silencers, "Chinese Specials" as you've heard them called, along with several smaller boxes of ammunition.

The next large box contains some lightweight military issue body armor with the insignia stripped off. It's thin enough that you could probably wear it under your hazmat suit without a problem though it'd be obvious in any other context.

The third box contains an impressive sniper rifle with about 24 bullets worth of ammunition and a fourth box contains a helmet compatible with your thermal vision. It also has a neat little internal cooling system.

The last and final box contains exactly three grenades and one smoke bomb. You're a little bit terrified of these.

You shove everything under your bed and try and work out your next move. Your appetite for breakfast is pretty much gone... You suppose you could go out and party it up.

Maybe we should hide that cocaine somewhere more out of the way of random temptation.

>time for bullet hell

>theme: https://youtu.be/QpDn4-Na5co

You waste no time dialing up Lopez, using the number that's been stuck in your wallet for over a week.

"This is Inspector Lopez's office, Loretta speaking. How may I help you?"

"Hey there, could you put me in touch with the Inspector himself please? Tell him it's from his buddy Vincent Esperanza.”

“One moment please.”

You marvel at how ScythCorp managed to license a KISS song for its hold music.

“Ugh, Vincent, we just spoke.”

“I know, but I figured you owe me at least a little. You don't have a gun range down there at the station do you?”

“Of course we do but what are you-”

“Freakin' great. I'll be down there in a jiff.”

You load up the sniper rifle and one of the silenced pistols into a box with some ammunition, don your Trump cap, and truck it downstairs as fast as your legs will carry you. Then you toss it all in the back of your van, do a second bump, and drive all the way to the station in manual. You manage to find some KISS playing on the radio and you bask in the glory of this perfect Sunday.

On arrival, you're met by Inspector Lopez. He's waiting outside the building looking cross but you do your best to overwhelm him with enthusiasm.

“Long time no see, Lopez!”

“What the hell are you planning, Vince?”

“Just to have some fun.” You guide him around the back of your van and open it up to show him.

“Is that cocaine?!”

“It gets better” you tell him, lifting the sniper rifle from it's packaging. “Promotional gift from the boss, you get these at ScythCorp?”

Lopez is agape.

“No, no but...”
“Come on, do a bump buddy.”

“I... alright.”

15 minutes later and you're both on the range, arguing over who gets to shoot the sniper rifle first. You win out, load it, and swing the long-barreled monstrosity downrange.

*click*

Nothing happens.

“What the hell?”

Lopez reaches over and flicks something on the side of the gun. It hums and vibrates ever so slightly in your hands.

“Shit man, it's a gauss. You've got to turn it on.”

“Yeah, I knew that.” you say, shouldering the rifle anew looking down the computerized sights. The head of a white mannequin at the farthest end of the range bursts into a red mist.

“Holy crap man, do you know how far that was? Let me try next!”

You hand the rifle over to him and he quickly begins loading it and preparing his shot. Meanwhile you dig out the 9mm Chinspec. It fits your hand like a glove and does a handy job of unloading in dead silence into a target and close range and then at mid-range.

Lopez points to a target slightly further out.

“Bet you can't hit that, jackass.”

You steady yourself and drown out the world, lining up the iron sights with your helpless white target.

"Pull it already!"

You squeeze tight and the mannequins brain's splatter out. It lowers slowly into the semi-solid pool of gel below to rebuild itself.

"Holy hell, you really did it. I'm impressed."

"Well you shouting in my ear didn't help any!"

Before you know it you've got him off the ground by the lapels of his coat. The inspector is lighter than you though.

"Hey, hey. Relax. Listen, I get off in a four hours. Bring your coke and I'll buy us some rounds, introduce you to some people. Sound good?"

>yeah, hell yeah

"Nah." you say, gently putting him back down.
"Nah?"
"Nah. Next time though, f'real."
"Hey, the invitation stays open then! Now come on, let's get you checked out of here."

You find yourself back outside the Scyth Station with Lopez. He helps you carry your guns back to the back of your van and asks for another bump. You give him a small one, then carefully secure the bag in a safe compartment of your van. Should probably keep it out of sight from now on.

And now you're back driving through Hong Kong. The suns still out and you're hungry. You could stop and eat somewhere, which would take some of the edge off your comedown.

You drive back to your home base and beat feet upstairs to pour yourself a tall glass of orange juice and get to the bottom of that bag of baby carrots. You're just absolutely famished.

You eat with great speed and take great swallows of the OJ despite its failure to cover up the repugnant taste of your water.

With nothing better to do, you turn on the TV and let the news blare.

>Russia announces a major incursion into Europe, describing their actions as consensual.
>"We're trying to help bring order to a region that has struggled since the war."
>Critics say that Russia is heavily responsible for that destabilization in the first place and that they are just looking for excuses to test new kinds of weaponary...

You switch over to sports:

>World renowned soccer play-

Whoops, wrong channel.

>The Mets horsewhipped the Yankees today...

Much better. you sink gently into your comedown this time, vegging out with your veggies in front of the TV as the sun goes down.

You've just about got your bearings back around 7pm. It's the end of your very first weekend as a GEC employee and you want to celebrate. But how?

>>
>>42528387

You take your helmet down to the van, still in the box, and toss it in alongside your rifle and the thermal goggles. Then you drive down to the Bionic Tower.

The Bionic Tower is a massive building, designed like something out of Judge Dredd as an accommodation for multiple neighborhoods full of people. The city of Hong Kong finished it about two decades ago but it was abandoned during the War and the upper levels remain pretty barren.

You take the long lift ride up, watching the city sink down below you.

[1/2]
>>
>>42528471
Your ears pop as you continue to rise upwards. The few people that were in your lift on the way out have stepped out by now and you're left alone.

There's a ding that indicates you've arrived and you step out into the breeze. There's an entire town up here, totally deserted. You don your thermal goggles to make sure the place is truly as empty as it looks (it is) and make for the edge.

You prop your gun up on the guardrail and fiddle around with the scope until you find a nice thermal setting. Then you start popping off bats.

>End Thread + Vince's Weekend

Congrats guys, you go back to work tomorrow! I'm going to archive and hang around for a little bit as usual. Yes, the Bionic Tower is a real theoretical thing by the way.

Okay tomorrow from Silver Pete.

We really need some cages. Strong enough to contain specimens even after they wake up from the tranq darts.

Since in order to stash some specs on the side for a much more lucrative, $300+ bonus each. We'll need to keep them in Vince's apartment until the Men In Black offer a pickup.

We also need to wrap up Monday's extermination by the early afternoon so we can Rohypnol the lab boss as planned if we want to see Jeremy.

So no crippling injuries this time or taking till the sun goes down again.

Also gas grenades pay for themselves in specimen bonuses. So get those this time in case we get a big crowd like the cats again.

Also put down a deposit on heavy duty gloves. And maybe read the file of what Monday's assignment is before talking to Pete.
>>
>>41966126
Do we.

Do we still have that Rohypnol fungi?

If we didn't need the dose for tomorrow we could have sold a portion of it to Totally Not MedCorp.

You should see Pete in the morning as usual so be ready to give your suggestions early in the thread (which I've decided will return this coming Tuesday rather than running twice a week as it sometimes does).

Okay, that's it for now. Say goodnight to the bats.
>>
>>42530174
Heh, if we want to really make things circular we could use the suggestibility period to also tell Dr. Xi to get us more doses of the same stuff, without Clarissa knowing about it. It's like an investment that multiplies until someone notices something wrong in the inventory.

...good thing we got the Surreptitious trait. Dosing someone's food probably requires a roll.
