Kichiro crosses his arms and wipes a bit of blood off of his cheek, and shakes his head. "But if we swoop in on someone who's winning a fight, we can take them out by surprise, and finish off the weaker pair. Then we'd have double the chance to get the right scroll!"

Ai shakes her head. "But then we'd have to defeat two full teams. Weakened or not, we have no way of anticipating their abilities."

You look between them, and try to formulate a strategy.

Ai and Kichiro look at each other briefly, and back at you. The older boy asks the question at hand. "When did you learn to do that?"

You smile. "Yesterday. I've got it down though, really. Let me get the major cuts that you've gotten, or else it's going to slow you down. We have an entire day ahead of us, guys. Whatever we do, we need to make sure that we stay in top shape."

Your hands start to glow with a healing aura, and you hold them over Kichiro's cuts. The process is slow, and it takes about twenty minutes to heal each major wound. You feel as though the more you practice with this technique, the more efficient you'll be with it.

Ai reaches into her pocket, and produces a marker. "Speaking of being prepared, I considered that this could be useful."

Kichiro raises an eyebrow. "Whatcha bring that for?"

She marks a dot on the tips of her left fingers with the marker, and hands it to Kichiro. "This is how we'll be able to identify each other, in case someone attempts to trick us with an illusion."

Kichiro nods. "Right. Makes sense. Well, now that I'm back in top shape, and we've got a mental guard going, what are we going to do?"

You look down at the ground, and consider what the other teams must be like. Yours has hardly had an experience at all on a mission, and you've always had backup to support you. Nothing has really gone wrong before, and now you're on your own. You're going to need to be a team. "First, we need to get organized. If you guys have been training like I have, then we need to let everyone know what we're capable of jutsu wise. I can send commands to you guys silently through Genjutsu, that way we'll have an advantage in controlling information."

Ai blinks. "I see. You used the same concept to send the answers to me during the written test. I'd never considered using a Genjutsu in this fashion. It's effective."

Kichiro nods. "Quite. I don't believe this situation is as bad as it may look, comrades. If we can synchronize, then we'll be able to survive to the next test."

Ai continues. "I suppose I'll start by telling you the jutsu I know. I'm capable of using the Duel Clone Jutsu, Shunshin, Shadow Shuriken, the basic Academy Jutsu, and various forms of Taijutsu. I also have a vial of poison, wire, several explosive tags, flash bombs, and a secret weapon. I've recently discovered that my chakra affinity is lightning, and I've learned a single Jutsu. It consumes a high amount of chakra for me, so I'm not sure how many times I could use it."

Kichiro steps up. "As you could probably guess, I'm capable of several fire jutsu. You've seen two of my techniques, the Great Fireball and the Hellzone jutsu. I also know the Phoenix Sage Fire Jutsu, which is a small volley of fireballs. I'm also the physically strongest between the three of us, and I have the largest chakra pool."

I've got poison as well, and a series of bells that I can use to create distractions and trick the opponent. Then there's the explosive tag I have."

Your team is ready. "Right. Let's go." you say. "We'll head deeper into the forest, and set up camp. Someone battle weary is sure to pass through."

You all head deep into the woods, until you find a waterfall with a cave near the base of it. It gives you plenty of room to remain hidden, and also dampens any noise you could make by talking. You and Ai set up traps with kunai in a perimeter around the area, and you post at various spots in the area. It's only about an hour before a strange sound draws your attention.

It sounds like a fireball tearing through the forest, and you see a blue explosion of Chakra as a wooden humanoid figure comes bursting out of the treeline. It's got some sort of propulsion system utilizing chakra that seems to keep it moving.

It breaks through several of your traps, and kunai launch at the figure. It lands and raises both arms, and a handful of senbon fire from each wrist. It knocks the kunai away.

You, Kichiro, and Ai are all hidden. It seems to be some sort of high quality puppet, although you can't see any puppeteer nearby.

It's walking around, observing the area. What do you do?

The hidden sand village has way more puppeteers than other villages, so I wouldn't be surprised if he's not connected to Kankuro at all.

You use False Sound and communicate to Kichiro that he should hit the puppet with a Great Fireball. Moments later your team mate leaps from behind cover, quickly moving through handseals. He inhales deeply and exhales in a single, smooth motion. The fireball is large and powerful, and it seems as though it's going to crash directly into the puppet.

The puppet raises it's arms as the fireball draws closer, and jets of flame erupt from the wrists. It pushes against the fireball and dampens the impact, saving itself from destruction. You and Ai immediately sprint off and start to search for a puppeteer, being careful to avoid all of the traps that you had lain. You notice two Sand Genin near the bottom of the trees, making noise. One is large and tall, with what seems to be rocky skin in some places. The other is of an average build and has medium black hair. He seems to be trying to yank a kunai out of the large one's back.

You don't find anyone else. Looking back, you see that Kichiro is holding a kunai, facing down the puppet. What do you do?

You go through several handsigns and use the False Place jutsu to prevent the two Sand shinobi down below from noticing the fight. They may still hear it, but it could delay them all the same. You rush back with Ai to Kichiro and the puppet. He's holding a kunai, and the puppet is slowly walking towards him.

Which is odd. It's moving in a very fluent fashion. You'd always thought that the puppets were sort of difficult to control. Either way, you and Ai throw your lot in and attack. You watch her throw a kunai, as well as slipping a second kunai in the shadow of the first. The puppet fires a senbon and blocks one of the kunai, but the second thuds against it's torso wood. The puppet reaches down and yanks out the kunai, when something odd happens.

You hear a female voice. "What the HELL!? I just waxed this thing for the exams! UGGH!"

The puppet seems to open up, and a girl with tan skin, blonde hair, and freckles steps out. She's wearing shorts and a bikini top, with her Sand headband around her neck. Apparently she was actually riding inside of the puppet.

"I can't believe this crap!"

She gets back inside, and gears the machine towards Ai. "You're going down, pipsqueak!"

Kichiro blasts the back of her puppet with a fireball, sending the girl crashing towards her team mates.

It seems like a fight's about to start.
